Dressed to impressed, men and women 50 plus, filled the Loma Verde Recreation Center in Chula Vista and grooved to the rhythms of salsa, cumbia, and cha-cha. Inspired by the DJ and professional dance instructors hired especially for the occasion, AARP members and their friends showed us their best moves, and demonstrated that dance is a great mind and body workout. Today I am taking a group of volunteers from Ocean View Church to assist in a clean-up project at one of our inner-city schools. San Diego's new mayor, Kevin Faulconer, who is a Christian and member of Pt. Loma Community Presbyterian Church, has organized the Service Day 1 San Diego project that involves churches, civic groups, and the Urban Youth Collaborative, led by Nate Landis. Afterward, we are going to Liberty Park for a picnic lunch together. My prayer for today is, "Lord, keep us safe as we travel and work, and may our light shine for you as we fellowship together with other believers from other churches, and with many who will not be from any church. Bless the mayor for this effort, and help our community unite together as a pilot project for other cities to once again realize that we are "One nation under God" and can work together to build up and unite, rather than tear down and divide. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen." Billy Falling, Pastor and Headmaster, The Internet Church, International P ...

We have been on the road for over 20 days now and this is the first time we had to pay for overnighting. On the trip to Arizona we stayed at truck stops like Pilots and Flying J's, then we were parked at y brother and sister in laws house, then we headed to a beautiful RV resort for 5 free days, all we had to do is listen to one of their sales pitches. Now we are in San Diego ( actually Chula Vista) at KOA campground and its costing us $66 a night (gulp) Just staying here 2 nights, . Things sure are expensive in California, we did get gas for $3.75 a gallon (for the motorhome, ouch) but will be using our car primarily while we are in California, which means 30 miles per gallon versus 8 miles per gallon. Most gas stations here are over $4 seen it as high as $4.59 for unleaded (shudder, shudder)

This is another stupid crook story - with a high-tech twist. Authorities in Chula Vista say they were able to round up a suspect in the burglary of a church - because the alleged culprit left the equivalent of his own a mug shot behind. The U-T San Diego reports that when detectives checked out the church after a laptop, cash and watches were stolen, they found a cellphone, too. On it was a selfie - of the suspect himself. Residents recognized the man in the photo - and it didn't take long to arrest him. Authorities say when Adam Howe was picked up, a search of his belongings turned up property believed to have been stolen from the church. Apparently his phone was not among those belongings. My what a wonderful evening! Enjoyed the Atwater Christmas parade as Grand Marshal with Maddie riding with me and my good friend and former B-52 Pilot that I flew with the last 2 years on active duty, Lt Colonel Al Osborn. Afterward we went to a pizza restaurant with all the family and were surprised with a visit from our dear friends from the San Diego area (Chula Vista) that came up just to see me and Maddie in the parade. It was Julio Torres and his mom, Inez, sister Lucinda and boyfriend Jeremy and his brother Luis. Julio stayed with us for a couple months while playing baseball with the Atwater Aviators in 2009 and it is always so nice to see them. We visited them in Chula Vista and 2 years ago they came up and helped celebrate our anniversary. Its time we went down there again. It sure was the icing on the cake for an otherwise great day! Wow!

www.jerralmiles.blogspot.com COUNTING CROWS Reporting back... What I’ve learned about crows, Corvus brachyrhynchos, since a conversation about them with Clyde and Dave over coffee this morning: Before 1985 crows were rarely seen south of Carlsbad along the coast and in San Diego before 1985. San Diego Natural History Museum’s curator of ornithology, Philip Unitt, reports that crows, being very smart creatures, have discovered that urban areas are great places to live. There’s plenty of food, and predators like hawks and owls stay away from city centers. It’s not a surprise to anybody that the Audubon Society counts birds. Here was a surprise for me. In 1984 the society counted no crows in a 15-mile-diameter circle near the Chula Vista Nature Center. In 1985 it found one. Twenty years later the count was 589 in the same area. The numbers have jumped almost exponentially in the last five years, not just in Chula Vista area but all over San Diego. Nobody seems to know why crows hadn’t discov ...
FYI...William A. Benson bought and owns the 10+ acres of land in Bonita, CA 91902 where the future location of Total Deliverance Worship Center is and so According to the United States Census Bureau, Bonita has a total area of 5.1 square miles. 5.0 square miles of it is land and 0.1 square miles of it (2.71%) is water. While Bonita is politically designated as an unincorporated community, bounded by the incorporated cities of Chula Vista, San Diego and National City, it is closely associated with the geography of the Lower Sweetwater Valley. Thus considered, Bonita occupies about a five mile stretch of the Sweetwater River, its valley, and surrounding hills on either side, bounded upstream (east) by the Sweetwater Reservoir, and downstream (west) effectively by Interstate 805. The community crosses west of I-805—an area less than 160 acres —reaching as far south and west as East H Street and Hilltop Drive. Its northern boundary is State Route 54 and its southern extent reaches approximately one mile s ...

The San Diego city council passed an ordinance today banning the sale of factory-bred animals. The change to the municipal code makes it illegal to sell dogs, cats, and rabbits that do not come from an animal shelter, the humane society or a non-profit rescue organization. San Diego is now the second largest city to pass this ordinance-- joining more than 30 other cities--such as Los Angeles and Chula Vista--that have similar laws. What do you think of the ban?

Well, day four of the wedding week walk down memory lane. Ok, the 23rd was a Tuesday. This turned out to be a busy day. Mary Lee and I had gotten an apartment on Saturday while we were still in the San Diego area before drivinng back to the valley. It was the Royal apartments on Park Ave in Chula Vista. A little one bedroom thing, but it was our first and what a home Mary Lee made of it. Anyway, we had a meeting with Guy Harden and turned in our forms from the questionaire he had given us the day before. He had told us our relationship would be hard and had reservations about us getting married to each other, WOW! After our talk, Mary Lee and I went to the U-Haul dealer and got a small trailer hooked up to her Cheby (Chevy) and after lunch loaded stuff from the house next to Herb and Adrianna's. She had been living there with Stephen. Then out to the base to load a few of my things and we were done. It was some kind of a good day, being with Mary Lee and knowing that we really were going to make a go of t ...

Welcome to the USS Pugel: Every hint of melancholy from leaving Number 3 diminished the second my plane landed in San Diego. As the sailors from the RSO drove me to my ship, I stared out the window wide eyed at the stunning city. The air was clear and the sun was luminous. Since I was a little girl, I had always loved palm trees. Whenever I saw them, I got excited because it indicated that I was close to the beach. Nearly every single San Diego street was lined with them. I loved the green shrub hills that looked lush, but were made for the arid conditions and needed little water. I loved the prickly red and pink flowers that bloomed at their tips. San Diego was different from Tennessee in every way. Even the Hispanic influenced architecture clashed with my norm. I noticed that even most of the street names were of Mexican descent. Instead of small cities with names like Soddy Daisy, Jasper, and Whitwell, there was Chula Vista, Escondido, and Rancho Cucamonga. “This place is amazing!” I said aloud, t ...

So I drive exactly 100 miles every day I work. Imagine how you would feel when you realize that after your 4th day of work this week your driving an extra 100 miles to take your daughter to see Matt and Kim in LA then the next morning (your day off) your gonna drive 120 miles to take your son on a field trip to Balboa Park in San Diego on Friday, your daughter has a club soccer game at 8am in Escondido the next morning, ring up 65 more miles, back home only to turn around that afternoon for Jake's playoff football game in Chula Vista that night at 7. Another 200 miles. God rested on Sunday but I have family Christmas pictures!!!
San Diego, California. Wednesday overnight gas went up 9 cents, last night went up another 20 cents. They are saying the average here is $4.64 a gallon, but some stations are charging over $5.00. Two Costcos here in California (one in Simi Valley and one in Chula Vista) ran out of regular yesterday so they were selling the next higher octane at regular prices.
A lot of change going on. My church, Extreme Gospel Worship Center is moving. Next Sunday will be the last one at our current location. I know it's just a building, but for me its kinda bittersweet to go. We have seen God move so many times and in so many ways there. Many of us have learned and grown so much in the Lord there. But I am also excited for what God has in store. He is moving us forward to bigger and better places and things. I truly believe that there is no limit to our potential. And through God we will achieve great things. For all my friends in the San Diego area, I welcome you to join us Next Sunday at 9:30am as we say goodbye to Extreme Gospel at 1013 Broadway in El Cajon. And then we welcome you to join us the following Sunday at 10:00am as Extreme Gospel moves to its temporary location at 2710 Otay Lakes Rd in Chula Vista. Then we welcome you AGAIN to join us at our permanent location at 880 Kuhn Dr in Chula Vista once we finish construction.

We went to Sea World, Legoland and the beach. It was really great to getaway for a few days before I get real busy with my French and Chinese group. The day I left I got a call saying that I will have two more French girls so I need to find homes real quick before they get here on July 9th. If anyone is interested I would appreciate it. Thanks a bunch!!

Chula Vista, which translates to "beautiful view", is the seventh largest city in Southern California and the second largest one in the San Diego area.
Jessica Sanchez putting Chula Vista in the spotlight. Congrats to her and all of San Diego.
Boy that little girl Jessica Sanchez can really sing. She is from Chula Vista, CA, part of San Diego County. She can sings like Whitney Houston which is amazing since no one else can. She made the hair on the nape of my neck stand up. Vote for the West Coast & Jessica, on American Idol. She really is fantastic.
We 're having a bit of a conflict in our family. I taught/coached in Chula Vista (CA) for ten years while Priscilla hails from the Albany (GA) area. If you are a fan of 'American Idol' you might understand the nature of our dispute. Who do you think is going to win the title: Jessica Sanchez from Chula Vista or Phillip Phillips from Albany. Will the WGWG win once again? Or will the high school sophomore from the San Diego area overturn conventional wisdom? Let's hear from you before the finale at Nokia Plaza next week.
Thank you San Diego, Chula Vista, and all the other voting public for supporting our home town girl Jessica Sanchez. NOW continue that support for next week. Lets help take it ALL.
Crowd favorite Filipino-American-Mexican Jessica Sanchez was named in the top two, meaning she will be in the final round next week. Sanchez, who hails from Chula Vista, San Diego, California, will be pitted against Phillip Phillips, the other finalist. Joshua Ledet was eliminated after public voting determined he was the contestant with the least number of votes.
"Official" support for singer Jessica Sanchez on "American Idol" crossed city limits Wednesday when Mayor Jerry Sanders today urged San Diego residents to support the Chula Vista teen.
Chula Vista in California has long been seen as a suburban backwater of its more famous neighbor, San Diego. Then the Jessica Sanchez phenomenon happened. Chula Vista's hometown girl came home Saturday (Sunday in the PHL) to the kind of motorcade and welcome once associated with astronauts and sports champions. That's how big American Idol has become around the world, especially to the proud places its finalists call home. Chula Vista will be treated to a Jessica Sanchez homecoming production for the show, and pretty soon the world will know where it is. One wonders what will ensue if Jessica Sanchez, the 16-year-old Filipino-Mexican-American with the exquisite voice, actually wins the competition.
Done watching Jessica Sanchez homecoming in San Diego and Chula Vista.
Filipino and Mexican communities in California have come out in droves to show their support for 'American Idol' contender Jessica Sanchez as she went home to Chula Vista, San Diego to a hero's welcome on Saturday.

Singing sensation Jessica Sanchez was grateful to be back in San Diego and specifically Chula Vista, her hometown.
If I had EVER watched American Idol, I might give a *** that one of the three finalists is Jessica Sanchez of Chula Vista. But I don't. I find it hysterical that the San Diego news outlets say, "Jessica Sanchez is coming HOME TO SAN DIEGO!! The *mumble mumble* native, who went to school at *mumble mumble* and has lived her whole life in *mumble mumble* will be spending a whirlwind weekend here! Remember, SAN DIEGO LOVES YOU!!"
I am the morning host at 98.1 Smooth FM here in San Diego. I'd like to speak with you about an American Idol event we're holding on Wednesday nights at the Brewhouse at Eastlake. Chula Vista's hometown girl and Idol contestant Jessica Sanchez has quite a following and our "Idol Viewing Parties," taking place right in her own neighborhood, continue to grow each week. This Wednesday night, we're expecting an even bigger crowd to join us as we cheer her on. Before last wednesday's Idol show, I reached out to a photography San Diego Meet Up group (meetup.com) and offered them some "red carpet paparazzi" practice. To our surprise, about 10 amateur and professional photographers brought their expensive cameras and lenses to line up on our modest Hollywood type red carpet leading to the Brewhouse entrance. It was a welcome dose of Hollywood excitement right here in San Diego. Jessica Sanchez's fans felt like celebrities themselves as they arrived, greeted with flash blasts, to watch American Idol with us. ...
This explains it. I was so clueless :p Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre is located just 20 minutes from Downtown San Diego in Chula Vista.

I'm proud and excited for Jessica Sanchez from American Idol. Rooting for her is like the time we rooted for the Chula Vista Little League team. Lot's of Jessica Sanchez parties tonight all over Chula Vista and Eastlake. I'll be hosting the Oggi's party starting at 7pm in Eastlake on Birch Road. I'll have lots of tickets to raffle off, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY: VOTE FOR Jessica Sanchez tonight please. It's all about getting her to the next round. During the show you will see the phone number to call, BUT here's the best way to vote: Go to americanidol.com and you can vote for Jessica up to 50 times for each ip address. San Diego: Get Jessica to the next round!
