* Heads up!! Please share widely! Please share widely! Urgent. Need to be a "whistle-blower" A "task force" has been formed with the participation of San Diego police, sheriffs dept, Park Rangers and private security firms and personnel. SWAT members will also be involved. A coalition of Downtown San Diego business/corporate people a part of it as well. During the days and nights for the next 3 months, beginning this October 13th, a very large aggressive sweep will go through Balboa Park in San Diego, to push out and/or incarcerate homeless people. The goal is to eradicate the existence of them in or anywhere near the park. They will use pepper spray, tear gas, tasers and will also use "deadly force if necessary"! I was a witness at a park employee meeting, about this planned use of force in Balboa Park.

Two weeks ago a map like this with a red mark like this one was an evacuation zone. Today the post this and it's to tell us that once more traffic can't go there, travel is impacted and that San Diego County is about to see havoc of all sorts this weekend. Just this time 30,000 people will be within that area--It covers the 805 & 8, all over the terribly, redonkulously weekend populated Balboa Park. El Cajon Blvd, which I pity them for having to run on because I'm pretty sure that San Diego folks might bury their dead on that street, it definitely has the worst surfacing outside of PA. Through University Heights where people are eternally happy or all transplanted from Canada. They go through downtown, touch upon the Gaslamp which at 8AM will only be gathering it's homeless people from the nearby "assistance house". I thought the wildfires sounded like a bad idea... but this sounds ludicrous. Why would we want to invite this many people here now when we could just wait two more months and have Comic Con?

San Diego Presidential Visit Recap – Part 5 San Diego, California May 12, 2013 We were on the second day of the visit of AHS Class of 1964 President Ysrael Manuel Cunanan and his First Lady, Leony. We had reached the city of Coronado together with our batch mates from Grand Prairie, Texas, Ben and Fanny Caturay. It was already 11 a.m. We drove along the main thoroughfare of the beach city going south. We turned right towards the foot of the Coronado Bridge. The bridge is a unique one, soaring high above the water overlooking the San Diego panorama around. Passing through it, especially going south is like riding an airplane. One can see the south bay cities on the right, the eastern part of San Diego ahead and the famous landmarks like Balboa Park on the north. It is like a long, thin ribbon spanned across the bay below. It is one of the iconic symbols of San Diego, America’s finest city. Among the other symbols inherent to the city are the images of the downtown skyline, Balboa Park, Seafood Village, ...

We checked out Balboa Park in San Diego and saw the Botanical Gardens...saw some familiar plants and herbs! I find it interesting that many will appreciate the beauty of plants, we will put them in a building, and take pictures of them. However, many have a difficult time believing that outside of being pretty, these plants have healing properties too! Ain't just for looks, that's for sure! ;-) I'll be back in the office on Monday, thank you so much for your patience while we enjoyed a little down time.
TGIF! A repost from another San Diego native. You have to be pretty old to remember them all, so i guess I am pretty old.. Remembering San Diego: You know you're an old-timer from San Diego when... 1. You can correctly pronounce Tierrasanta, La Jolla, Rancho Penasquitos, San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Jamul, Jacumba and El Cajon - and know where they are. 2. There are four distinct seasons: Summer, Not Quite Summer, Almost Summer, and "Oh, hey look, it's Summer again." 3. Your high school had a surf team. 4. Insane Diego and Chulajuana are real towns. So are San Yskidrow and International City. 5. Your house is worth more than some small countries. 6. You know what IB, MB, OB, and PB stand for. 7. Every street name is either in Spanish or Spanish related, and you're surprised when other areas don't have this. 8. You can determine the accuracy of someone's "I'm ghetto" claim by knowing their high school. For example: El Camino High School or Crawford High. 9. You see weather forecasts for four different climate zo ...
I read this article about treats in California, by Andrew Collins. Everyone can enjoy these hot spots. at the end of last year, I've created a new San Diego *** Bar Guide- it's a survey of about 20 popular hangouts throughout Southern California's second-largest city, plus the notoriously wild Club Fusion/Club Extasis, just a few hundred feet over the U.S./Mexico border in Tijuana (I included some tips on how to easily and affordably get here from downtown). San Diego has a relatively stable *** clubbing scene - many of the top spots here have been going strong for 15 or 20 years, and the majority of the city's GLBT nightspots are in the lively Hillcrest neighborhood, with several others in North Park, just to the east. During my visit, I also had the chance to stay at Kimpton's latest San Diego hotel, the chic and stylish Palomar, which opened in 2009 (then as Se San Diego) and contains some of the most smartly designed rooms in the city. It's in downtown's Gaslamp Quarter, within an easy stroll of a nu ...

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Tourism Authority's annual promotion in which children receive free admission to San Diego area theme parks and museums during the month of October begins Tuesday. Among the so-called "Kidvasion" deals are free admission to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, museums in Balboa Park, Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, Legoland California in Carlsbad, Sea World San Diego and the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum. The zoo and Safari Park are planning children's activities throughout the month, including a musical production featuring the Fisher-Price Little People. Youngsters will also be able to eat for free at many hotel restaurants throughout the region. Most of the bargains are for youth aged 12 and under, but the deals and restrictions vary by venue. The restrictions generally limit the freebies to a corresponding number of adult admissions. The zoo has offered kids-free Octobers for more than 25 years. Area tourism officials expanded the program last year to get families to extend th ...

I just spent an absolutely delightful late afternoon and evening with my brother, Jayar! He flew in from Houston, I picked him up at the airport, gave him a long 'cooks tour' - of San Diego - Downtown, all the places I go to court, the jail, my old building from the 80's then to the NEW library, Petco Park, the Harbor, Balboa Park, Mission Bay - up the coast to 101 for dinner in Encinitas - then dropped him at La Costa! WHAT a day - and wonderful review of this lovely city he's never seen most of it, and this was a 'fond farewell' for me - - I leave in 6 weeks. A Beautiful Day!

Balboa Park in San Diego is 1000 acres of absolute surprises around every corner. For the first time ever, we saw real-life street performers. A violinist, break dancers, tarot card readers, a parroter, a saxophone player, balloon shapers, face painters, bongo player. The best of them was a group that danced tributes to Michael Jackson music. I got some really great photos of them. The most disappointing of the street sights was a booth that was set up by atheist, promoting their beliefs. Or I should say, lack of belief. About 20 feet to the right of the booth was a man dressed in black, standing all day reading aloud from the King James Bible! I couldn't believe it! I wondered if he ever took a bathroom break. Maybe he had a remedy to that hidden under his black baggy clothes. ;) The architecture on the buildings was amazing. Museum after museum. We visited the Museum of Natural History. The main exhibits were of skulls and robotic dinosaurs. Tessa was scared of the almost full size robots. They were ver ...
One of the Vacation Inspirations in Southern California sure to impress is San Diego. Sun City, as some of its locals call it, is the perfect place for a weekend getaway or an extended vacation, and it offers numerous attractions for adults and children alike. Even better, one museum is free to visit every Tuesday. Just check out the park's web page for more information. Also in the park is the San Diego Junior Theatre. This is San Diego's premiere children's theatre and is the oldest children's theatre in the nation. Every year they produce nine different productions suitable for all ages featuring local actors and actresses and professional quality production values. If you left the kids at home and you're looking to have some good old-fashioned adult fun, be sure to check out the Gaslamp District downtown. Known for ...

Happy Saturday y'all.I'm happy to say I got a house near Balboa Park (Thats neat the World Famous San Diego Zoo)with a big *** backyard.Busy day today with signing papers and picking up my new Ray Ban glasses I ordered along with some shopping.Hope y'all's day is as good.
If you are in the San Diego area tomorrow (Saturday 11 - 3 pm), come by and say hi at the booth at Balboa Park, near the large fountain off of Park Blvd., near the Ruben H. Fleet Space center. Me and my buds will be supporting fathers in drafting "Legacy" letters to their children, and children in drafting "Honor" letters to their fathers. Uplifting, fun stuff.
I just returned from spending an hour walking around the Plaza de Panama and sitting on a bench in front of the Museum of Art observing the new pedestrian behaviour already occurring even though access to the plaza is still partially restricted. People are crossing the plaza at all angles, pausing in the middle to observe the various facades of the museums surrounding the public space, and enjoying being able to approach a bit closer the North fountain. The redesign is already working its magic. Even though autos are passing through the corner of the plaza, there is a new sound that dominates more and more; the splashing of the fountain jets as they rise and then cascade into the basin. What a pleasure! The citizens of San Diego are going to be surprised what a difference this redesign is going to bring to the center of Balboa Park. San Diego has a new delight. I hope you will join me in thanking Mayor Filner and all the good people at Save Our Heritage Organisation for making this dream come true.

We made it in one piece to Point Loma (gorgeous) and the torture exhibit at the Museum of Man at Balboa Park-wasn't popular. The girls said they left out the picture of 3 women being driven around San Diego by Don Hudson. I am trying to think of something to do tonight that will please everyone before heading back to the airport tomorrow and flying back to ?. San Diego is busy but stunningly beautiful and I am lucky to have seen it. Grace and Peace to all

Greetings! I'm back in Marfa, Texas, after a successful road trip to Tehachapi, California, to attend the annual Vintage / Classic Sailplane Rally at Mountain Valley Airport on Memorial Day weekend. Jacob and Megan (from Alpine, TX) flew airline to Bakersfield a few days early so we took a drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to San Diego to see the USS Midway carrier and to Balboa Park for the Aviation and Auto Museums, then visited Torrey Pines Gliderport. Back to LA, we rented bicycles on Venice Beach and got our feet wet in the cold Pacific. We enjoyed a great evening of excellent food and country music at Buck Owen's "Crystal Palace" in Bakerfield. We also drove north to see the huge trees in Kings Canyon / Sequoia National Parks before heading to Tehachapi to assemble my Schleicher ASK-13 for the long weekend of soaring. Aloft, I discovered the "Tehachapi Shear Line", a convergence of the west winds wrapping around Bear Mountain west of Tehachapi and creating a wandering line of lift over Teha ...
Spent an awesome week in San Diego taking in the sites; Balboa Park, the zoo, La Jolla, Seaport Village, Old Towne, Coronado Island, Padres ball game, aircraft carrier USS Midway, and even Tijuana
VIII. SAN DIEGO – Balboa Park – La Jolla – Cabrillo National Monument California, California. Coming off a plane almost exclusively used by members of the US Marine Core we expect to start our trip with three days of relaxation on the beach and nothing to see in a little San Diego. Err. Although it is sunny it is too cold and too windy to tan at the beach, although we see the sea right out of our little hotel room. Therefore we contest the Californian public transportation infrastructure for the first time and go on a ride. Amazingly enough, you can reach almost every point you desire by bus; if you know where to wait for it. Further on, it is amazing what we found looking for something touristic to do. Balboa Park we discovered as one of the loveliest parks seen so far, and its roots were set in the early 14th century. Left over are the beautiful restored buildings and gardens, community rooms, amphitheaters and good places for wedding pictures – amazingly beautiful. More famous is San Diego for ...
Into Day 36... I love California. Entered the state and was in Joshua Tree national park within a few hours. Very cool trees and rock formations. I didn't have much time there as the route I took to get to San Diego that involved the park meant I wouldn't be getting to Alicia Lou's place until late. San Diego was a very cool experience. Alicia and her boyfriend Nate was very hospitable, and happy to show me around. We went to the beach which was beautiful, saw some cool little wildlife, and awesome shorelines. We also wound up partying with this group of kids chilling in this natural pretty hidden cut out in the beach. They gave me a beer, and we hung out talking about astrological signs. This lead to us talking about our birthdays. Now I knew these kids were young but this was the moment we realized we were hanging out with High School KIDS. Fun and goofy experience. Balboa Park was very impressive. This huge park with museums, huge gardens, and basically an art district. We visited a cool ...
(bfs) Brookfield Zoo is one of the best zoo's I have been to other than Balboa Park, in San Diego.

San Diegans for Open Government sues City of San Diego to block Balboa Park bonds issued without voter approval. San Diegans for Open Government, a non-profit government watch-dog organization, filed a lawsuit to challenge the legality of $17.4 million in bonds issued by the City of San Diego to raise money to pay for a new parking structure in Balboa Park’s Plaza de Panama. The lawsuit alleges, among other things, that the city did not have the legal authority to issue the bonds without voter approval, which is required by the San Diego City Charter whenever the city borrows money that cannot be repaid in the same fiscal year. The city pledged two fire stations and a police facility as collateral for repayment of the bonds by leasing those facilities to a city-controlled corporation and then allowing the corporation to give the bondholders a security interest in the facilities. The mayor and City Council approved the proposal even though the city’s independent budget analyst concluded that the parkin ...
How ironic is it to walk into a shop in San Diego and run into someone from Unity???! Crazy! Had a great day, did a Sea Lion tour, Old Town, Seaport and a trolley tour - onto the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park tomorrow!!!
On an unrecorded date in 1925, the Sabian symbols were brought into manifestation in the span of a day in Balboa Park, San Diego, California through the combined efforts of Marc Edmund Jones and Elsie Wheeler. The Sabian Symbols are symbolic astrological degrees – a series of pictures that would serve a purpose. The Sabian Symbol 26 deg of Leo for Reeva Steenkamp is as follows “ After a Heavy Storm, a Rainbow.” This paints a picture of sunshine and beauty after a difficult passage. And when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow. Here are some pics of around San Diego. We lived on broadway which turned into golden hill. I think like around 25th street past the underpass of highway 5. It was also near B street. B Street at the time had a lot of neat california homes people were fixing up. Ours was a bungalow on the left and a corner house as well. highway 5 is a good way to get around san diego nortth. The university area is nice too. One place to see is Balboa Park. There is a planetarium and amphitheater there as well as Balboa Park Naval Hospital where I worked. A picture of that is here too. It is the white with red tile roof and palm trees and looks like a small castle. It is not the one with the big round building with it. Downtown is the Open Mall. It used to be called either homeless park or peoples park but before the mall it was a park where the homeless stayed all year round. I know Emily will love the outdoor Mall! 5th ave north will take you to a lot of neat places. Pacific Coast Highway will take you to a lot of great ...

I gotta tell you FB Family/Friends this was an exceptionally great Birthday. My kids have been celebrating it since we arrived here to San Diego. There has not been a day that we don't take a scenic tour. We have visited Old San Diego, Balboa Park, all the beaches and the ocean, the mercadito and the mall, we've walked on the beach. And today on my real Birthday I made Mole and Rice for lunch, then went to the ocean to fly kites, then for dinner we all went to Olive Garden and then came home and skyped in the Vince, Rosa and the little people. Now, we are singing Karoeke. Thank you to all my brothers and sisters, family and friends for the Birthday wishes! This is one Birthday Girl that is going to sleep tonight with a smile!

This week we are in San Diego, California. It's been great so far; a very close friend of mine lives here, and I'll get to see her a lot this week, which makes me very happy! Today my kiddo and I are off to Balboa Park to visit some of the museums and gardens there. The main one we are off to visit is The Museum of Man. They have a new Egyptian exhibit there that will help to further our understanding of the mysteries and secrets of Ancient Egypt. It's perfect timing for us to check it out since Ancient Egypt is what the topic is in History right now.

On Friday, Jan 4, 2013, San Diego EarthWorks was notified by an official in office of Mayor Bob Filner that the City of San Diego will not issue a park use permit for EarthFair in Balboa Park in 2013.
From my friend Martha Sullivan-- Jacobs Folly trashes another San Diego tradition: FREE Earth Fair every spring in Balboa Park. SD EarthFair organizers recently announced that the permit for 2013 EarthFair has been denied by the SD Mayor's ofc -- From 11/29/12 Reader blog: "Besides reviewing job slots, Jones was also called upon to field a request from Balboa Park’s Earth Day maven Carolyn Chase, who endorsed Republican-turned-independent Nathan Fletcher against Filner in the spring primary, saying "I've watched the polarization of Big Labor vs Big Business (along with Big Legal) downtown while the rest of us are left at the sidelines working to pay the bills. The environment takes a back seat to everything else, instead of being considered as part of everything else." "Hi Allen, Carolyn Chase here," the November 14 email begins. "I understand you are working on transition for Bob. "I have an issue I need to put on the ‘Urgent and Short’ list, which is to say an item that 1) requires early action du ...

(Chariho's Bryce Kelley last week ran the Nike Cross Country Nationals in Portland, Ore., placing 69th overall). Crawley's time today was 16 minutes, 19 seconds over a dry 3.1-mile route at Balboa. With his appearance, Crawley became the sixth Rhode Island boy to qualify for the National Championship in its 33-year history, and the first since Westerly's Andrew Springer competed in San Diego in 2008. Having a staycation with the hubby this week. We're Downtown San Diego in the Gaslamp District. Yesterday toured the USS Midway. Very interesting. Tomorrow we plan to visit some museums at Balboa Park. This is a beautiful city. This morning from our rooftop saw a navy ship going out to sea. Tom said they are going on a long tour. All hands were on the deck lined up around the ship. We said a prayer for them.
Piracy jammin' LIVE to "world jam riddim," April 17, 2011, at the Earth Day Celebration at Balboa Park's World Beat Center, San Diego.
So I drive exactly 100 miles every day I work. Imagine how you would feel when you realize that after your 4th day of work this week your driving an extra 100 miles to take your daughter to see Matt and Kim in LA then the next morning (your day off) your gonna drive 120 miles to take your son on a field trip to Balboa Park in San Diego on Friday, your daughter has a club soccer game at 8am in Escondido the next morning, ring up 65 more miles, back home only to turn around that afternoon for Jake's playoff football game in Chula Vista that night at 7. Another 200 miles. God rested on Sunday but I have family Christmas pictures!!!
Going on a tour of San Diego Bay with the Navy in the morning. Will be on one of their speed landing craft...a fast machine. It will be amazing!! Then I have a big undercover gig working with my Mitt Romney people at Balboa Park around noon. To top it off, a BBQ at Ski Beach with my Southeast Asian Refugee committee in late afternoon.
Cannot believe how nice everyone is here in San Diego. Went to La Jolla (beautiful scenery, dirty sand and tons of sea grass covering beach), Balboa Park (beautiful Spanish Architecture) and Coronado (beautiful beaches, houses and hotels) and Old Town (Spannish Community with yummy food). Unfortunately, we missed the Coronado Pedistrian Ferry, which went to the San Diego Bay full of yachts, cruise ships and sail boats. Coronado was def the most impressive with all kinds of beaches and very clean. Weird how we haven't seen any cops or State Troopers, but yet don't seemed they're needed. Accidentally was 1 mi away from Tijuana before we realized it and turned around! Hollywood bound tomorrow :)
Ran 19 miles this morning in London. My flat, to Parliament, to St. Paul's for a personal moment, to Buckingham Palace [the Queen was in, but occupied], and then back to the flat --twice. Good to have the exercise, but also to admire this magnificent City with so many grand public spaces, all free, and so *** beautiful. Wish my home of San Diego would get a clue, and stop the Paid Parking in Balboa Park, and walling off the Bay with more hotels and parking garages. If the San Diego City Council ran London, the banks of the Thames would not be the grand public promenade they are today, but would be nothing but high-rise offices and hotels, and above-ground parking garages. The TUBE would not work. The grand Mall here would be converted to a shopping Mall. Buckingham Palace would have been torn down as "too old" and replaced by a combination parking garage and shopping mall. The British Museum would not be free to those who cannot afford the suggested contribution; and valet parking would be everywhere. Th ...
Have been enjoying Southern California's beautiful weather! Played at Laguna Beach, went to Balboa Park yesterday, and now enjoying San Diego's Old Town

Back from sunny, warm California -- an amazing adventure in Santa Barbara w/ Adam and Trevah and the angel babies! New house is going to be awesome! Then off to San Diego to see a bbf, a bff, an nbf, several beaches, and Balboa Park with Colleen hopping along on her good leg -- more excellent adventures! Thanks again to all. Good to be back in Colorado, but it's rainy, cloudy, and cold today. Boo.
Debbie Allen, president of the Humanist Fellowship of San Diego will be at Balboa Park tomorrow 9/1 on "El Prado" near the Lily Pond.
Another Beautiful Day in San Diego. I could get used to this real quick. Went to Balboa Park and saw the Botanical Gardens. A bit disappointing. Thought it would be bigger than it was. But was still beautiful.
Miss any of my columns last week? Then you missed some serious water-cooler conversation starters. A public triumph at the breathtaking Torrey Pines State Beach and Reserve. A police fail at Balboa Park. Murderers' letters, jewelry and, ahem, killer art, for sale in North Park. A potentially world-class public market coming to Barrio Logan. Access them all from my staff page.
"But first: Wait! One more look. Good-bye , Good-bye, San Diego. Good-bye to clocks ticking.and Balboa Park. And Indian food and Old Town coffee. And new ironed dresses and hot baths.and sleeping and waking up. Oh, SD, you are too wonderful for anybody to realize you." Thornton Wilder(ish)
Heavenly.thanks for sharing Cassandra P. Shepard!! Quote, "Will there ever be another her? 'Pygmalian' by George Bernard Shaw is going to be a 100th anniversary extravaganza this winter at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego's Balboa Park. Can hardly wait. 'Just you wait, Henry Higgins...just you wait'!" We said Cassandra! Carolxoxo
Forget raindrops on roses and bright satin sashes. Give me Pike Place Market in the winter with hot apple cider, december weekends in Mazama with the girls and a fireplace, 2.5 hour flights to San Diego-and considering that-summertime in Balboa Park on free museum Tuesday, sandwiches and sunset from the La Jolla Coves, Driving to Julian in the fall for fresh apple pie. And the loving embrace from my sisters and family. THESE are a few of my favorite things.
Rendering of the future interactive Action Sports Hall of Fame, with plans to be located in San Diego at Balboa Park.
Pianist, composer, and Latin-music advocate Turiya Mareya has returned to San Diego after spending 10 years in Alaska, Madrid and Vancouver. She'll be marking her homecoming with a special concert on Aug. 10 at the World Beat Center in Balboa Park. Mareya was an indispensable force on the creative jazz scene in the '70s and '80s, playing piano and bass clarinet in several key avant-garde ensembles like Future Primitive with bass virtuoso Mark Dresser and multi-instrumentalist Dave Millard. For a self-described "white girl from Texas," Mareya made significant cultural strides upon relocating to San Diego at the age of 17 and hooking up with some local jazz icons. "I moved to Barrio Logan as a teenager, and at that time, Daniel Jackson was doing a radio show at what used to be the old Black & Tan on 30th and Imperial," says Mareya. "They were broadcasting from there and he did a jazz show and he announced that he was teaching classes. So I went down there. He was definitely one of my prime influences, and h ...
A Walking Tour of San Diego, California-Balboa Park - Smashwords: There is no better way to see America than on ...
I once lived in San Diego while my husband was in the Navy, LOVED Balboa Park, the big Pipe Organ. I miss it,Ocean smells different!
Since I'm taking a break from conventions until 2013, going to be doing some more exploring and traveling in California. August: Escondido, Few areas I haven't explored yet. September: San Diego City areas, Plan on giving Balboa Park and few other areas a visit. October: If Las Vegas doesn't go through, might visit some explored areas of LA, Might try to Look Into Universal Citywalk and might give Little Tokyo a visit. Also open for suggestions on areas that I've haven't visited in SoCal.
Today was great. I decided to go to Balboa Park this afternoon. I walked around the rose garden, took a few photos, then I walked over the bridge to the park. I bought a small bag of popcorn and sat and watched a local sax player perform. Then I walked over to the koi pond and took photos for a bit, then walked through the Botanical Garden section. Nature sure is beautiful. After I was finished, I decided to have a cherry snowcone. It was too delish. Then I met an elderly European man who was visiting San Diego with his wife and granddaughter, so I chatted with him for awhile until he had to leave, so I then went to go explore the Science Center. I haven't been there in forever, and after I walked around for awhile I went to the gift shop and bought Gammy a small jar of amethyst crystals and I bought myself a small jar of rose quartz crystals. As I left to catch the bus two women were giving away free Sun Drop soda, and I was lucky enough to snag one. All in all a good day.
At least 80 degree's today, in the San Diego area! Walked around Balboa Park, and checked out the only museum that didn't charge an arm and a leg...Then had a really nice lunch at The Prado...fancy! Decided to check out Seaport Village, where I haven't been in about 20 years...still very cool! Then onto the Gas Lamp district--(yawn...) not what we expected. But...had a great dinner at Gordon Beirsch brewery. Tomorrow---I pack!! Wish me luck!!
Day 1 of our 2012 Scout Camp Is done. We left Grand Junction at 0430 and rolled into San Diego at 1700. Tonight we are at the Scout Camp in Balboa Park and tomorrow morning we go to MCRD for a recruit graduation.
My top ten list of immediate things to do once i'm back in San Diego. Hang out in Balboa Park. Hang out at La Holla cove. Gorge myself on rolled tacos. Go to a Padres game. Ride my bike on the boardwalk from Mission Beach to Pacific Beach. Hang out in the Gaslamp. Visit Julian. Tijuana. Win money at Viejas. Enjoy the year round perfect weather. Just thinking about it all is enough to make a grown man cry.

San Diego was fun. I need to come back and spend more time here. La Jolla yesterday morning was beautiful - saw the controversial Sea Lions. Then a brewery tour of Ballast Point and a roam around Balboa Park. After a nap, Josh and I climbed Cowes Mtn and then had a fantastic dinner. This morning, onto El Paso.
Three years ago today, in spite of a late Limo Driver and the traffic issues caused by sharing Balboa Park with the San Diego *** Pride Festival, my beautiful, amazing, intelligent, sexy, wonderful wife and I were married in the California sun. Thank you, Angela, for being the wonderful woman you are!
Went to San Diego for the day and enjoyed seeing "The Titanic" at the Natural History Museum and walking Balboa Park. Absolutely Beautiful Day! No marine layer, no overcast and I didn't have to use my sweater!! ; )
Had a fabulous weekend celebrating my dear friends, Genie and Bruce Summers', 50th Wedding Anniversary! Then off to San Diego this afternoon with Cindy and Tom to Balboa Park and the Titanic Exhibition. It was just incredible...not to be missed if you can make it.
So I've had this idea for a while now to make a video of a San Diego tour in-a-day and since my sister and a friend are coming to stay with us, I'm going to do it with them this next week. I need help to make sure I didn't miss anything REALLY important. Here is what I've got so far: Mt Soledad, La Jolla Cove, PB, Konos for breakfast, Mission Beach, Belmont park, Belmont Roller coaster, OB, OB pier, Hodads, Sunset Cliffs, Point Loma, Cabrillo, the lighthouse, the big bay, Maritime Museum, the midway, seaport, Coronado Bridge, Hotel Del, Hillcrest, Balboa Park, Gaslamp, Horton Plaza, and Old Town. WHAT AM I MISSING?
Thanks to those who marked my 76th birthday. Loma Linda offers the advice of a nutritionist because my Dr. is anxious that I not eat unhealthy food to keep my colon clear and healthy during the therapy. He was especially anxious that I not eat too much acidic food, like orange juice. So do you have any further advice about plant-based juices and food which are acidic (so I can avoid them). July 13: My dear sister, Dot, helped me plan a trip to La Jolla (a quaint ocean town, as quaint as you can get on the W. Coast) where we walked around, taking advantage of her disabled hanger for her car (which cannot in CA receive a ticket for over parking). We had a pleasant meal of Chilean bass and saw an exhibit of a contemporary hispanic painter in a museum of modern art, then ice cream (even though Dot doesn't eat junk except on Sat., which is generally devoted to junk food in her routine). We traveled, then, about 1/2 hour to the large Balboa Park in the middle of San Diego, where there is space saved miracu ...

I've just returned from San Diego, where I went to see my dear friend, Stacey Roberts, perform at the beautiful Balboa Park. This is the first time I have traveled to San Diego by Amtrak Train, as I usually drive. The train traveled along the Ocean Side, and the scenery was absolutely breath taking! Unbelievably BEAUTIFUL!!! I arrived in San Diego to a host of wonderful friends, and lots of GREAT FOOD! Later we joined Stacey at Balboa Park where he was the featured singer with the Big Band called RJ Real Jazz. The Theme was: "Twilight in The Park...Under the Stars". Stacey my friend, You were magnificent!!! My two favorites of all of the songs you so eloquently executed were: "Friends" and "Georgia". This was the best trip to SD yet! Keep singing my friend. Thank you for your hospitality.
The San Diego City Council is trying to destroy Balboa Park and its status as a National Historic Landmark with their "Jacobs Plan." Un-freaking-believable. Balboa Park is one of the most beautiful public parks in the country and expresses the character of San Diego. What are they thinking?
I am reminiscing about when my brother, Cj Enos, took me to a GRUNGE themed LASER SHOW at Balboa Park in San Diego in 1993. They played Screaming Trees, Mudhoney, Dinosaur Jr., you know... The Classics. I know it is the opposite of what was intended, but when I hear early 90's Seattle Music, I feel warm an fuzzy with memories.
If the City Council of San Diego truly cared about making Balboa Park a car free zone simply put up barriers at the entrances that say no "through street" . It would cost nothing and not cause the uproar it has nor would any of the park have to be touched. Its funny that a council full of very passionate people yesterday pleaded with the city not to go through with this project and every single one of them snubbed their noses and chose to anyway. In a time of technology boom, we really dont even need City Councils anymore. Kiosks could be placed around the city and county and when an issue or legislation needs to come up simply put the vote up to the people by Iphone, ipad, and kiosks. :) :)
San Diego...so many Spanish historical buildings found in the Old Town & Balboa Park.
I just got home from a train trip to San Diego. My friend Dolores and I took the 8:59 AM train down and met out friend Ellen, we all went to Immaculate High School in Seattle. We met Ellen at 11:30 and went to lunch, then to her son Tim's home to see his baby daughter Wren, then over to Coronado and then back to Balboa Park Arboretum and Art Gallery and ended up at Old Town for a margarita nachos and then we caught the 6:15 PM train back home. We had wonderful weather did a lot of walking and a great time together so, a great day was had by all. Now all we need to do is to get some fellow Immaculate Alums to come down and join us in one of our crazy days. Now I am exhausted so, I am off to bed. Good night all.
Not a good week for the Port of San Diego. first the Big Bay BOOM/Bust, now a water main break! We were walking home from Balboa Park and noticed traffic backing up Grape St. (a main route to the airport). SDPD has the street blocked at Pacific Hwy so no one can get to N. Harbor Dr. I think Laurel St is closed too as they were telling people to get on 5 north and take the Rosecrans exit to get to the airport. Also saw people with luggage heading to the airport on foot - sure hope they may it in time!
Just returned tonight from California where Harrison played in the Addidas Invitational Phenom 150 Elite showcase. He was awesome, even if I am the Grandmother saying so!Chloe and Stephanie joined Harrison and me there and we had a little family vacation after basketball in San Diego and Los Angeles. Harrison met G. Arenas in Fogo de Choa in LA and had a great discussion. Chloe met the Disney star of Shout it Out ( I probably got that wrong), and loved it. Stephanie and shopped, toured the Zoo, Balboa Park, Santa Monica pier, etc. Good for the soul.
Our trip to San Diego last week was so much fun, visiting with cousins the Harguindeguy sisters and families and Deb. Visited four missions and what they have done with Old Town is wonderful.Gaslamp District very nice, also the ships at the pier were very interesting and affiliated museums and current Gauguin exhbit. Found great Ethiopian and Filipino restaurants. Went to a Swedish Midsummer festival at Balboa Park that was a lot of fun.Point Loma Lighthouse very pretty and walking the beaches and watching the surfers a lot of fun.the priest who gave the very thought-provoking sermon at Mission San Diego on Sunday turned out to be our cousins' old pastor...lots of synchronistic events... All in all a great vacation. We are "smitten" with sunny SD...it was a nice sun break and they may see more of us in the future! Thanks to H girls and Deb for taking time from their very busy schedules to spend time with us and show us a good time! LOL.
LAST CHANCE to tell City Hall that Balboa Park is NOT FOR SALE SOHO San Diego - Save Balboa Park
Young Aminah Al-Jaber, a descendant of the Estudillo family (which gave the land for Balboa Park to the people of San Diego), eloquently expresses her personal opinion about the proposed Jacobs plan to build a freeway bypass over the historic Cabrillo Bridge to privately-owned paid parking lots in Balboa Park. On July 9th, 2012, the San Diego City Council will vote on the plan -- which has been strongly opposed by the National Parks Service and historical organizations, as well as local residents, as it will destroy not only the natural beauty but the historic architecture and landscaping as well. Here's a link to a page by SOHO (Save Our Heritage Organization), where you can find links to the councilmembers' emails and a Change.org petition: per SOHO: The Jacobs plan states that it intends to save the giant ficus, but the rest of historic and picturesque Palm Canyon will be destroyed to make way for the freeway bypass. The Organ Pavilion will not be destroyed, but a multi-story paid privately-owned pa ...

So far on Sam's Californian Adventure I've been to a winery and Balboa Park's Natural History Museum in San Diego, and now I've been to the Tar Pits in Los Angles and I'm on my way to Disneyland!

Had a great time in San Diego with Bill. Dad's 80th, lots of family and friend time, Balboa Park, La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Playhouse, and a great day at the Zoo! Gonna miss it but it's back to Boston. It's time to work!
Sunset Cliffs, Balboa Park, all the ships, all the sailors (rawr!)... Picturing myself in sunny San Diego right now.
FACILITY: From Bill Walton to Larry Legend, some of the best players around have held court at San Diego's Municipal "Muni" Gymnasium. Located in the heart of beautiful Balboa Park, "Muni" is the epicenter of San Diego's rich hoop history. Click here for map and directions.
After to-day's Planning Commission vote, I have to say I am disappointed in San Diego. It is obvious we are a skin flint town that is not willing to tax itself a few dollars a year, on a per capita basis, to properly restore, renew, update and preserve even the crown jewel of our park system which was bequeathed to us by forebears who numbered only a few thousand when they built the park. Of course, no politician has shown leadership by asking us whether we value the legacy that is Balboa Park enough to tax ourselves to improve and maintain it I was dismayed to hear more than one Planning Commissioner say "It is not my ideal, but there is someone willing to pay for it." How cynically tight fisted can we be?
Ahhnn kickin back after a long day. Tomorrow..Safari Park and Balboa Park or Gaslamp Quarter. Trying to find a T-Shirt that just says San Diego. Hopefully I can find one tomorrow.

Thank you Scott for a great weekend! I love you so much!!!
Mark Goffeney, known as 'Big Toe', the guitar player who plays with his feet & toes in San Diego's 'Balboa Park', covering Tom Petty's 'Last Dance With Mary ...
Treat yourself to a stay in our beautifully restored Victorian mansion this summer! We are within walking distance to Balboa Park and the world famous San Diego Zoo. Our neighborhood is home to some of the most talked about restaurants in San Diego & and the Gaslamp District is just a mile away. For those of you who live in SD, plan a staycation with us and ask about our local rate!
Another great day! Rode bikes in Balboa Park, parked bikes outside the San Diego Zoo. Ran into good friends while in the zoo. Spent the afternoon with them. Just met family at Black Angus for dinner. Fun, fun, weekend!!!
For our friends that know Pete and Donna Hall - I just found out last nite that Donna's Dad, Bill Laughlin, will be honored today in San Diego at Balboa Park by John McCain and Mitt Romney. Bill was a bombardier in WWII and was shot down over Romania and was a POW. We have been friends for over 50 years and we are so, so proud.
In 2 weeks from today (June 3), I'll be running my 5th. race of year 2012 and my 37th. full marathon overall: The ROCK 'N' ROLL MARATHON in San Diego, CA. It will be back to 26.2 miles starting at Balboa Park, running throught the streets of Downtown San Diego, Mission Bay (more sunburn), and finishing at none other than SeaWorld. All participants get a free ticket for a one-day pass to SeaWorld after the race. My plans after the race is to go back to my hotel, take a shower, take a couple of hours nap, and then take the trolley to Tijuana, Mexico so the ladies can massage my legs!!
Have I mentioned our wonderful trip to San Diego to see my grand and great granddaughters and Lily's Dad and two formerly "virtual friends" with all of whom we had wonderful visits. Avocado groves, the desert, mountains, the ocean, Earth Day at Balboa Park, the Maritime Museum and more - all in 6 full days! My thanks to all those we encountered, including Opie, the licensed educational raccoon who is very sweet. So is Lily! What a great vacation!
Have just spent a wonderful Mother's Day WEEK with the family and the twins in San Diego. Great weather. Went to Birch Aquarium, Zoo, Kids Museum in Balboa Park, Storytime and dance time at the Library, played in the sand and water at Mission Bay, topped it off with a visit to the Carlsbad Outlets! Whe, life is good!!
I attended the Prayer Breakfast and Leadership Press Conference this morning in San Diego and met Bob Filner for the first time, (even though I have followed his career for ages)...he is awesome and real...and if I could vote for the Mayor of San Diego, it would DEFINATELY be him. His VISION and EXPERIENCE is just what San Diego City needs.someone to appreciate the diversity, the community and our educational and cultural heritage...and for those out there who don't know this, there is a huge movement to close down the "community" part of Balboa Park and replace it with a parking lot, a bridge, and condos...National Park Service opposes this as we all should...so look out because we will be asking everyone to oppose this very sneaky vote to the City Council on July 9th! more to come~WE NEED ALL OF YOU to help us work for San Diego as a Creative City and a World Heritage Site...NOW!!!
Went to San Diego Bay yesterday Debbie and I walked around sightseeing then went to Point Loma and found were my mother is buried and took pictures of her head stone after that we went to Pacific Beach and had dinner at a ocean front restaurant and ate some great seafood then we went on a walk on the beach and collected sea shells for her fish tanks back home. Debbie really enjoyed the beach and walking in the surf. Today it's off to see my brother in law David and going to Balboa Park and maybe Old Town. Still no fixed plans on seeing my grand kids, can't get there father to commit to anything and since they live in Mexico I can't just go over there. Still hopeful I well get to see them. I said a prayer last night in hopes that the almighty might nudge him in my direction. Heartiest Regards to All
The Timeless Staff LOVES San Diego. Here are some things we're doing this weekend; San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Hiking Torrey Pines, Long run on Coronado Beach, Brunch in Encinitas, watching a show at the Casbah, and going the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park. What's your favorite thing to do during the weekend here in San Diego?
Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. We spent the day in San Diego doing fun things. Went to the Cabrillo monument. The weather was clean and crisp and you could see the buildings up the side of the mountain in Mexico. Had lunch at Nordy's cafe in Mission Valley, then to Balboa Park (this is National Parks Week). Met a friend who belongs to the Yacht Club for a pre-dinner glass of champagn, then on to Ocean Aire for a dinner of crab legs, lobster, clams, oysters and shrimp. To finish the evening, we heard the SD Symphony do Romeo and Juliet. Wow, what a day!
