I just read that Marvel ret-conned Nick Fury to be the Samuel Jackson version from the movies. I was mad until I read how hilariously awful it was. In 2012, the six part series Battle Scars introduces Nick Fury's secret son, Sgt. Marcus Johnson who is an African American who ends up losing one eye in the series. Why does the Die Hard series keep getting more and more preposterous, with over-the-top action sequences that defy believability and an increasingly stupid storyline? The first two installments, in my mind, are terrific. Can't go wrong with either of those. The third movie...Die Hard With a Vengeance -- I know some says it's great -- but to me, it was the start of the great decline. Casting a superstar (Willis) next to a rising superstar (Samuel Jackson) was too much alpa-male. I'm wondering if Willis and jackson argued with the director everyday on who would get more screen time. So the producers listened to me (or maybe I just think they did) and cast Willis next to the neanderthal known as Justin Long in DH4. Long was probably just happy to be in the same room as the great Bruce Willis, so no chest-bumping there. Boy, that guy upstairs really fancies himself a comedian. Or maybe he's checking out the acoustics. Django Unchained.was freakin awesome! It's definitely one of my top 3 Quentin Tarantino films. Classic Tarantino fare...the pop-culture references, the awesome background score, the violence, the gore, the brilliant screenplay, the wise *** dialogues. Thoroughly enjoyable in spite of being a little long. Leonardo Dicaprio was menacing and stole every scene he was in. Equally amazing were Christoph Waltz and Samuel Jackson. But for me, Jamie Foxx in the lead role was the real DUDE in all his gun-slinging glory! A must watch for anyone, who can digest Tarantino-style violence and the n-word thrown around every second sentence!!

So, got to see Django Unchained. What would have been a daring expose of the savage brutality of American slavery - all the more bold coming from a white director - was, in my view, marred by Tarantino's insistence on the obligatory orgy of blood splattering straight out of Kill Bill. Does this dude get a kick out of pantomime gorefests, as he can't seem to complete a film without brains and body tissue coating every wall? A shame, as it's otherwise very absorbing, and Samuel Jackson's performance is outstanding.

Well, as expected Django Unchained is an absolute must see. Great story, fantastic actors like Jamie Foxx, the to me incomparable Christoph Waltz (Inglorious *** , Samuel Jackson in his maybe best role ever and Leonardo Dicaprio in a really mean part. Also nice to see Don Johnson (Miami Vice) again, he doesn't seem to get older, as well as Bruce Dern and Don Stroud. Typical Tarantino like is the appearance of Franco Nero, who in 1966 acted as Django in the same named Italian movie. Even Quentin could apparently not resist to have a role in his own movie, a short one though, but still longer than the Hitchcock appearances and finally Kerry Washington who is brilliant as usual. I guess the movie has been rated +18, as it has some very bloody sequences. In short, it is another master piece of my favorite US director and since he is only 49 years old, surely some more will follow.

Django Unchained: It is a movie not for faint of heart. I can tell you this... Christoph Waltz , Kerry Washington (she had a difficult, difficult role, and I thought she pull it off), Samuel Jackson, (actually playing a different character for once!) and Leonardo Dicaprio were fantastic. Some of things were way too over the top and gory but to each of their own. I can understand why Will Smith denied this role. The movie feel different especially with the passing of Sally Menke, Quentin Tarantino's premier editor, so it came across as awkward and even slow at a time. With this being said, I like the movie.

Academy Award Nominations are in and I have to say there were more snubs than pleasant surprises this year. Right off the bat I think the exclusion of Leonardo Dicaprio and Samuel Jackson, as well as Tarantino for director for Django Unchained raises an eyebrow or two. Perhaps the biggest shock in my opinion is the complete exclusion of the Dark Knight Rises! Not expecting to see Best Actor nominations from them, but come on! They shot on IMAX cameras, and had some really good sound design. Nothing for cinematography or sound editing?
