Why am I so weird? Carol Burnett, Hee Haw, Late Night with David Letterman, Johnny Carson, Dr. Demento, Ray Stevens, Jerry Clower, David Copperfield, Doug Henning, Kids in the Hall, UCB, Saturday Night Live, The State, MadTV, Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Brothers, Richard Pryor, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Sam Kinison, Monty Python, Sanford & Son, Soap, Three's Company, What's Happening, What's Happening Now, Weird Al, and Pee-wee Herman played a part. Lest I not forget Jane Collins Ward who sang such songs to me as "I see your hiney, all black and shiny." That's a good start into what's wrong with me.
Tears of a Clown The phrase, "I laugh so I won't cry", runs so much deeper than the acerbic/sarcastic connotation typically attributed to the adage. Those quickest with a joke and possessing a rich sense of humor are more often than not people who also carry with them deep pain. They use comedy both as a coping mechanism to silence internal demons as well as a sort of camouflage to hide their vulnerability to the outside world. The source of the pain varies from individual to individual. For some it's a matter of unresolved familial issues, for others it's stems from suffering tremendous loss, for others it's a result of a traumatic experience...there are more things that can damage an individual's psyche than could ever be listed. Some of the most popular comedic talents of our time have publically struggled with, and in some cases unfortunately lost, their personal battles with their "monster": Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, John Belushi, Martin Lawrence, Richard Jeni, Chris Farley, Greg Giraldo, Fredd ...

It makes me sad to realize that there are adults in this world who were born too late to see people like George Burns, Red Skelton, Groucho Marx, Richard Pryor, Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, or Johnny Carson when they were alive. Maybe it's just sad because it means I'm getting old, but it kind of boggles my mind that there are grown adults walking around who, temporally speaking, think of someone like Kinison the same way I think of Hendrix or Janis Joplin - a voice from the past that was never a living part of their world. Maybe that's why, in spite of all the bad things to be said about it, I actually do enjoy motion pictures - whether film or television or whatever - as a medium.
Sam Kinison writes a love song at the end of Breaking The Rules
This is my only public comment about all the *** and dreck that's been reported on Bleeding Cool over the last week. The biography series I edit about legendary comedy has parted ways with the worst publisher in the history of comics (which isn't news to anyone, myself included). Jaymes Reed has decided to self-publish the series, and I support that idea 100%. That said, buckle up! We are going to give you our best work in 2013 with new biographies of Redd Foxx, Sam Kinison, Richard Pryor, Bill Hicks and even WKRP in Cincinnati (written by me). I'll post updates as they become available.

My favorite five comedians of all-time: George Carlin, Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks, Denis Leary, and Richard Pryor. Unfortunately, all but one of them are no longer with us. How about you, Matthew Deery?
Too me, good comedy makes you laugh first and foremost. But it also makes you think, and a little uncomfortable.uncomfortable in the sense that the comedian as went into a sacred realm of your psyche causing you to reexamine certain morals and idealogical beliefs you've had set in stone. Begging you to question those things you've found solace with. Paul Mooney does that, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison all did that.and to that list I add my friend Thai Rivera. That's great company to be in. Of course this is my opinion only. But mark my words the boys the goods.
Sam Kinison and Richard Pryor never gets old lol.

I posted something a little while ago that got way too Political for me... Let me say it simpler with no Political Implications at all. I am NOT and never will be a Politician. so here goes. I am very hurt and filled with sorrow for all the suffering I see people going through today. I pray for a World where I don't have to see small children playing on the streets in front of burned out houses in America or anywhere else. I wish I could do more to help them. This is why I love Comedy and why I have to work harder to become better at it. Why do I LOVE Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, Eddie Murphy, Steve Bluestein, my friends like Bobbie Oliver, Cathy Lewis, Orlando Quion Sadsarin, Herman Nazworth, Nicky Paris, RC Smith, Thomas Dale, Bob-a Fini, Mike Bova, or any of us? It's because of this... what ever I was going through in my life... when Richard, or Eddie, or any great Comedian made me laugh. for that moment or hour I was happy. That is a great job! Making people happy even for a moment.. that's w ...
