Five Home Runs at Safeco Field, but not enough for Seattle Mariners in 9-7 Loss to Kansas City Royals
Escobar's slam, Giavotella's blast power Royals Offense picks up for Guthrie, who gave up seven runs in 4 2/3 ... Right on cue, the Royals' bats came to life on their alternate day schedule, this time with home run firepower, and with it, another victory. Alcides Escobar banged a grand slam and Johnny Giavotella socked a go-ahead three-run blast in the Royals' 9-7 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday with a Mother's Day crowd of 30,447 at Safeco Field. That gave them a 4-3 record on their trip to San Diego and Seattle. Starting last Wednesday, the Royals had 14 hits (a win), four hits (a loss), 16 hits (a win) and four hits (a loss). Then came Sunday's double-digit helping of hits and another victory. Escobar got the sunny afternoon off to a booming start with the first grand slam of his career. He used a pink bat for the special occasion. The second inning against left-hander Roenis Elias began with singles by Danny Valencia and Alex Gordon and the bases got jammed when third baseman Kyle Seager c ...
Vargas continues to pitch well at Safeco Field, only now it’s against the Seattle Mariners rather than for them. Vargas held Seattle (18-17) scoreless over seven innings, allowing just three hits and a hit batter as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Mariners 6-1 in front of 20,858 Friday night.

Perez saves the game, then wins it Catcher tags runner in 10th, doubles in 12th as KC gains playoff ground . The Kansas City outbreak of Wild Card fever continues to spread. The Royals' spirited run for a postseason berth picked up momentum with a 12-inning, 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday night at chilly Safeco Field. That pushed the Royals to within three games of Cleveland for the second Wild Card spot in the American League. Their second straight extra-inning victory came as Alex Gordon led off the 12th with a walk from left-hander Lucas Luetge and was bunted to second by Emilio Bonifacio. Eric Hosmer popped out and Johnny Giavotella walked. Salvador Perez ripped a double down the left-field line, scoring Gordon, although Giavotella was thrown out at the plate. For the Royals, there are two games left at Seattle and four at Chicago. Cleveland, idle on Monday, has two games left against Chicago and four at Minnesota. Tampa Bay is the Wild Card leader, one game ahead of Cleveland. Right- ...
Sport: Baseball (4* MLB Play of the Day) Market: Houston Astros @ Seattle Mariners Pick: Total OVER 8 ½ Runs Odds: $1.91 Agency: Centrebet Wager: 4 Units Analysis: The Seattle Mariners are skipping Felix Hernandez's scheduled start yet again as he continues to nurse an injury. It could be coming at an especially bad time as they try to cool off a suddenly hot Houston Astros offense. Rookie Brandon Maurer gets the ball for a spot start Wednesday night against Houston at Safeco Field. Maurer (4-7, 6.85 ERA) started the year in the rotation for the Mariners (65-80) but was sent to Triple-A Tacoma after going 2-7 with a 6.93 ERA in 10 starts in the season's first two months. Perhaps the worst came in a 16-9 shelling versus Houston on April 9 as the right-hander gave up six runs and seven hits in only two-thirds of an inning. Maurer has been used as a long reliever since being recalled in late July, posting a 6.64 ERA over eight appearances spanning 20 1/3 innings. He hasn't thrown since a 1 1-3-inning appear ...

Enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago Cubs at Safeco Field. The Cubs won 7 - 6. We enjoyed watching our Cubs win!!!
At Safeco Field watching the Seattle Mariners take on the Chicago Cubs -- won great tickets -- on a warm, beautiful Sunday (6/30) afternoon in Seattle. And since I was actually rooting for both teams, the result (M's losing) didn't bother me as much as it usually would.
I just read online how Safeco Field (Home of the Seattle Mariners) is making waves in their advancement of Green Technologies there at the park!! For one, there have no trash cans, they have recyclable and composting cans instead! 2. The main scoreboard uses LED lights instead of "regular" light technology, which in turn uses 90% less power. 3. The parking garage has power stations for electric cars. 4. The city encourages biking to the game instead of using your car. They have bike spaces. 5. The restrooms have low-flow urinals which save 1 million gallons of water every year. 6. Concession tablewear (cups, plates, forks, knives) are all compostable. 7. RESULTS: in 2012, the stadium diverted 2 million pounds of waste that would have headed to the landfill in recyclable materials! I heard AT&T Park in San Francisco is the same way! Why is it that the West Coast has their act together when it comes to Recycling and Green Technologies??? And the rest of the country is sucking their thumbs and bei ...
Took my boy to Turn Back the Clock Day at Safeco Field yesterday to see the 1909 Chicago Cubs take on the Seattle Mariners playin' as the "Turks." It was fantastic! We dressed up olde-timey and were not only featured on the JUMBOTRON but were also given 2 free tickets to sit in the Commissioner's Seats at a game of our choice! Oh, and there was a wonderful William Howard Taft impersonator that threw out the first pitch. Had me thinkin' bout them two gents Andy Bean and Fuller Condon. I love my son and baseball and clocks turned back!!!

So we just read about the Seattle Mariners adding a restaurant to Safeco Field called "Edgar's" named after Edgar Martinez who spent his entire 18-year career with the Mariners. In a hypothetical situation, if the High Desert Mavericks opened a restaurant at the Stadium, which player should we name it after? Leave a comment below.

Happy retirement Gramps, and thanks for being one of the greatest men I have ever known.
When the Seattle Mariners told their players Tuesday about the Safeco Field fences being moved in for 2013, the best reaction may have come from first baseman Justin Smoak.
The fences at Safeco Field are coming in.
The Mariners on Tuesday announced that they will move the outfield walls at Safeco Field closer to home plate, in order to encourage better offense from a struggling Seattle team. The dimension changes, which will take effect before the 2013 season, will primarily affect the wall in the left-field a...

Hi all I went to see the Mariners take on the Texas Rangers yesterday afternoon at Safeco field, home of the Seattle Mariners. While walking around with my friends we noticed a table with autographed photos. I was sure the items would be out of my price range …….way out of my price range. I went over and took a look anyway. The sales clerk explained that everything on the table was at a discount price. So, I've been here six and a half years. I've seen a lot of players come and go. AND during those years a few of my Mariners favorites were Adrien Beltre, now a third basemen for the Texas Rangers. And Richie Sexton who last played for the New York Yankees and has since retired from baseball. The original price for both autographs was over $100.00 each. I got the two for $50.00!

b Hernandez tosses Perfect Game in Seattle's 1-0 win SEATTLE — King Felix now has a crowning achievement. Felix Hernandez pitched the Seattle Mariners' first Perfect Game and the 23rd in baseball history, overpowering the Tampa Bay Rays in a brilliant 1-0 victory Wednesday. The 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner has long talked of his desire to achieve pitching perfection. He finally accomplished it against the Rays, striking out the side twice and finishing with 12 strikeouts. It was the third Perfect Game in baseball this season — a first — joining gems by Chicago's Philip Humber against the Mariners in April and San Francisco's Matt Cain versus Houston in June. More than half of all perfectos — 12 — have come in the last 25 seasons. This also was the sixth no-hitter in the majors this season, three of them at Safeco Field. Humber threw his gem in Seattle, then six Mariners pitchers combined to hold the Los Angeles Dodgers hitless at the park on June 8. For the Rays, it was an all-too-familiar feel ...
Watched the 1st Perfect Game pitched by a Seattle Mariners pitcher at Safeco field since it opened 23 years ago this PM! It was awesome, 12 strikeouts by King Felix, gave me goose bumps during the 9th inning. On my laptop in my hotel room in Merida thanks to MLBTV.com, not as good as live but still awesome.
Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners threw a Perfect Game today vs. the Tampa Bay Rays. It's the 3rd Perfect Game in the big leagues this year, and the 2nd at Safeco Field in Seattle(ChiSox Philip Humber). Also, it's the 4th time in 5 years the RAYS have been no-hit... 3 of them Perfect GameS!!! OUCH!!
