Just a reminder that on Wednesday evening Sue Dunham will be presenting images from this year’s Southampton International Exhibition. The exhibition has been going for over 100 years and although at first it was local it has grown into a major international show. It is run under the patronage of La Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique, the Photographic Society of America and the Royal Photographic Society. Sue has helped organise the event for many years and we are very lucky to have the opportunity to see these outstanding images at our club. I hope that you will all come along and enjoy what should be a thought provoking evening. See you then.

Harold Cazneaux (30 March 1878 – 19 June 1953) was an Australian pictorialist photographer; a pioneer whose style had an indelible impact on the development of Australian photographic history. In 1916, he was a founder of the Pictorialist Sydney Camera Circle. As a regular participator in national and international exhibitions, Cazneaux was unfaltering in his desire to contribute to the discussion about the photography of his times. He created some of the most memorable images of the early twentieth century. Biography: Harold Pierce Cazneau (he added an "x" to his surname in 1904 to acknowledge his Huguenot ancestry) was born in Wellington, New Zealand to Australian parents who returned home after some years. For many years, Cazneaux’s prints were exhibited in shows organised by the London Salon of Photography (1911 to 1952) and later included in the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain’s annual salons. In 1914 he won Kodak's "Happy Moment" competition, and the £100 prize money went to a dep ...

Pep Ventosa's work is focused on an exploration of the medium itself--deconstructing and reconstructing photographic images to create new visual experiences. His photographs have received top honors, exhibited in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Germany, France and Switzerland, and been jury selected for special exhibitions by the late Robert Rosenblum, curator of 20th Century Art at New York’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; the Pritzker Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and the Royal Photographic Society of Madrid, among others. Ventosa's work is in the permanent collection of the Crocker Art Museum and his creative work processes are used as a teaching guide for photography students. A Catalan born in 1957 in Vilafranca del Penedès, near Barcelona, his lifelong passion for photography began with his first camera at the age of 10. He went on to learn the mechanics of the darkroom at Spain's Escola d’Arts i Oficis ArtÃstics de l’Alt Penedès and later taught himself the possibilities of t ...

e Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is to host a major photographic exhibition by Maurice Joseph FRGS ARPS and Norma Joseph FRGS FRSGS entitled 'And the Dawn Came up like Thunder' that follows in the footsteps of the Scottish adventurer Dr Henry Cadell. The exhibition, sponsored by Olympus Cameras, opens on 16 November 2002 and runs until 5 January 2003, repeats the 2,150km journey Cadell made more than 100 years ago from the source of Burma's great Irrawaddy River to the Sea. Taking its title from an extract from Kipling's poem based on the Irrawaddy; The Road to Mandalay, the exhibition was inspired by Cadell's detailed notes and illustrations discovered in the archives of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) where he was the former Vice President. The first study of the Irrawaddy since Cadell's original adventure in 1899, the exhibition brings together three key crucial organisations: the Royal Photographic Society, the Royal Geographic Society and the aforementioned RSGS. Starting their ...
