Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink tells ZOOM how much he enjoys life as coach at Royal Antwerp
An interesting article today by in the about John Bostock, who is now playing for Royal Antwerp.
THE SUN Wayne Rooney has admitted he was frustrated under Sir Alex Ferguson because he had to play out of position. West Brom have been told off by the PL for writing "we know what we are" on the match ball v Arsenal - in a swipe at Midlands rivals Aston Villa. Aaron Lennon has returned to training after suffering a foot injury in the first game of the season. Sources close to Malky Mackay say he's confident he won't be forced out of the club after his head of recruitment was replaced by owner Vincent Tan. Zenit St Petersburg have set aside £16m to bring Martin Skertl back to the club. Stuttgart are keeping tabs on Arsenal's Serge Gnabry - despite the club selling him for £425k two years ago. Stoke and Southampton are watching 20-year old Icelandic striker Emil Atalson from KR Reykavik. Juventus are preparing to offer £8m for Nemanja Vidic in January, with Barcelona and Monaco also interested. Gus Poyet could make his son Diego his first signing - he's rated at £1.75m by Charlton. Nigel Clough is bein ...

Im a central defender from Northern Ireland who has been at Manchester United since 2004.I was born in Belfast in 1988. I was spotted by Manchester United scouts when I was nine, and moved to Manchester when I was sixteen. I played for the Youth Academy for a couple of years (2004-2006) before spending the 2006-2007 season on loan, firstly at Royal Antwerp and then at Sunderland. In 2007-2008 I played My first few senior games for Manchester United, and then returned to Sunderland for a further period on loan. Since 2008-2009 I have been a regular member of the Manchester United first team squad. I have played a number of matches each season, without ever being one of the first-choice central defenders. During the period when Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were the preferred pairing, I was often called upon to provide cover. My best season was 2011-2012 when I made forty appearances. I have also represented Northern Ireland at junior level and, since 2006, Ive made a number of senior appearances. Who am ...
Angelo Henriquez scored a clinical brace for Real Zaragoza on Sunday, contributing to a 4-2 win over Mallorca to maintain his excellent start to life in the Spanish Segunda Division. With his side a goal up, the United striker doubled the lead in the 39th minute with a predatory near post finish at the Iberostar Stadium. Just moments later, he scored again, this time showing plenty of composure to convert from six yards after his initial head was saved from close range. Victory moves Zaragoza up to 13th with 11 points from 24, putting their promotion charge back on course following an inconsistent start. Notably, Henriquez has now scored four goals in his last three matches. In the Championship, Nick Powell ended a big week for Wigan Athletic by starring in their 2-1 win over local rivals Blackburn Rovers at the DW Stadium, a result that was sealed by an injury time winner from Emmerson Boyce. The Reds youngster played a full match and was involved in an incident with Grant Hanley, who was then sent off f ...

Davide Petrucci on the bench for Royal Antwerp today.
I think that in January and in the Summer maybe 3-4 players brought in will help the squad out. I would suggest a CB, LB and 1 or 2 CM's but obviously it's not up to me. I am expecting Ferdinand, Giggs and possibly Fletcher (Depending on how he recovers from his illness) to retire next summer because Giggs is almost 40 and has taken a coaching role and he will struggle to juggle 2 roles and Ferdinand probably knows that he's been poor recently. I hope Ferdinand can recover his form though because he was top class last season but injuries are starting to get at him again. I also think Moyes will be in the market for a LB and with Evra's contract up next summer it could mean Evra will be released on a free transfer. I'll miss Evra if he does go because he's been a great servant to us. I expect Macheda to be released too as his agent has recently said he will leave when his contract expires in 2014. I expect Moyes to tell these players that they can leave: Anderson, Young and Bebe. Anderson is simply not goo ...

Whiteside believes it is only a matter of time before Jonny Evans becomes Northern Ireland captain on a full-time basis. The 25-year-old has long been a mainstay in defence for his country, even if a number of his caps have been won in a full-back role, and is one of the most senior figures available to coach Michael O'Neill. However, he has yet to take on the armband, with Southampton's Steven Davis currently enjoying that honour. Whiteside outlined his admiration for his fellow countryman in an exclusive interview to promote the Charity Challenge at Carrington on 22 June, when fans can compete in a seven-a-side tournament. "Jonny has done brilliantly," Whiteside told ManUtd.com. "I think it's his third Premier League title and he's got stronger and stronger. "Even going back to him getting sent to Royal Antwerp and Sunderland, that gives players a lot of confidence when they are playing regular football. It's what they are sent out for – to come back a better player – and so did Danny Welbeck. It sh ...

Harry Redknapp has turned his attention to Danny Simpson after failing to persuade QPR’s board to meet Wayne Bridge’s wage demands. Bridge, 32, has joined Reading – a move that has angered Rangers boss Redknapp, who was keen to sign the former England left-back. Redknapp is also looking to bring in a right-back and Newcastle’s Simpson is his first choice. Simpson’s contract expires this summer and Newcastle have indicated that he will not be offered a new deal. West Ham have also shown some interest in the 26-year-old, who began his career at Manchester United and has had loan spells at Royal Antwerp, Ipswich, Blackburn and Sunderland. A number of other clubs have been alerted to Simpson’s availability and Redknapp wants Rangers chief executive Philip Beard to tie up a deal. Mark-COURs
A Manchester United XI will take on Swansea City on August 13 for Alan Tate's Testimonial. The Reds will travel to the Liberty Stadium for the Tuesday night fixture in the week leading up to the big kick-off for the 2013/2014 Barclays Premier League. Swans centre-back Tate started his career with United as a trainee and had a loan spell at Royal Antwerp before joining his current club, initially on a temporary basis. The 30-year-old spent some of last term on loan with Leeds United but is being rewarded for his stay in Wales with a night to remember against the Reds. "I'm extremely grateful to the club and Manchester United for granting me this testimonial," Tate told Swansea's official website. "I spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson before he announced his retirement and he was really supportive. "It was great to go back there a few weeks ago to say farewell, thank him and see a few old faces. I still keep in regular contact with Darren Fletcher and, in fairness, Sir Alex has always asked him how I was getting on ...
In demand forward Stevan Jovetic looks likely to leave Fiorentina this summer after the Italian side’s general manager Sandro Mencucci said the Montenegrin was looking for a new challenge. Jovetic is rated at around £25million by Fiorentina. Arsenal had looked the favourites to sign him, but recent reports suggesting they had baulked at his price-tag could give Chelsea a chance to swoop for the 23-year- old. Jose Mourinho has reportedly begun assembling his coaching team for when he makes his expected return to Chelsea this summer. The Portuguese coach is expected to bring in Rui Faria and Silvino Louro, and could keep Rafa Benitez’ appointment Bolo Zenden at the club. Former Chelsea forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has backed Mourinho to be a success in his second spell at Stamford Bridge, saying that he has unfinished business and that the Blues could not have picked a better man for the job. Hasselbaink himself was named Royal Antwerp manager today. Chelsea and Manchester City’s hopes of signing ...

News: Northwich Victoria boss Lee Ashcroft has been banned for 10 matches for abusing a female opposition coach. Manager Michael Laudrup believes only a huge financial investment (200 mil to be precise) will enable him to improve on Swansea City's ninth-place finish in the Premier League. Monaco have signed Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho and French media reports say Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao will be next for £50m. Everton's new manager will have "even bigger shoes to fill" than David Moyes has as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor at Manchester United, says former Toffees winger Pat Nevin. Leeds United have signed Swansea City central defender Alan Tate and West Brom midfielder Jermone Thomas on loan until January. 30-year-old Tate joined up with his new teammates today (Nov 22) to train for the first time in readiness for Saturday’s Elland Road clash with Crystal Palace. He joins the club having made a handful of Premier League appearances this season. Tate was a trainee at Manchester United and spent a short spell on loan at Royal Antwerp, but he went on to have two loan spells with Swansea before joining the club permanently in February 2004. He cut his footballing teeth in Belgium, making 17 appearances, but after failing to figure at Old Trafford he headed to South Wales where he has clocked up 325 appearances for the Swans. Neil Warnock told the club website: “He is a lad who I’ve always enjoyed playing against. He is a leader and I felt these last few weeks we’ve lacked leaders. "The football *** of Europe" (in short, "Euroidiots") is a popular, ironic name of the Bulgarian football club PFC Levski (Sofia), formerly Vitosha (Sofia). It first appeared in several European media after the match between Royal Antwerp and Levski (UEFA Cup 89/90, 1st round). In this match Levski were leading with 3:1 until the 89th minute and then Antwerp managed to score three goals in the next 5 minutes with 10 men on the field. The match finished 4:3 for Antwerp and they were through after the first leg 0:0 in Sofia. As a result of Levski's fiasco, on September 26, 1989, the popular European Sports Channel "Eurosport" began their evening UEFA match overview with Levski's game by referring to them as "the football *** of Eurpope". On the following day, the French sports newspaper "L'Equipe" once again referred to Levski as the "Euroidiots" for their fiasco against Royal Antwerp. Most recently, the Spanish newspaper "El Mundo Deportivo" referred to Levski Sofia as "El Debil" before Levski's Euro ...
