Transfer deals - July 2014 The transfer window re-opened on the final day of the domestic season and will close at 23:00 BST on Monday, 1 September. Once the transfer window closes, teams can still sign free agents and clubs outside the Premier League can bring in loan players in the case of an emergency. the ex-blade on top of the world Like most young, budding footballers, Steve Charles grew up in Sheffield dreaming of one day pulling on an England shirt and lifting the World Cup. And earlier this month, the former Sheffield United star’s ambition was finally realised – at the ripe old age of 54! Boyhood Blade Steve, who made 156 appearances for United after turning down the offer of a professional contract with Sheffield Wednesday, was a member of the England squad which lifted the Seniors World Cup trophy in Thailand, after victory over Scotland in the final. And the old England heads – boasting over 2,500 career appearances between them – broke with tradition, too, by winning the tournament after a penalty shoot-out. Steve was joined in Thailand by former Doncaster Rovers and Rotherham United star Dean Barrick and ex-Rovers goalkeeper Barry Richardson, as well as the likes of ex-Arsenal stopper Danny O’Shea and Gareth Ainsworth – well known to United fans, after his challenge ended the car ...

Preston North End have agreed to sign Jamie Jones with the shot stopper joining the Club from Leyton Orient. Jones will become a Lilywhites from 1st July on a two year contract after six years at the Matchroom Stadium. A product of the Everton Academy, 25-year-old Jones made 179 appearances for the O’s, his debut coming in a 4-2 victory over Southend. Jones joins PNE following Declan Rudd’s return to his parent Club Norwich City at the end of the 2013/14 season. Speaking of the deal, Preston manager Simon Grayson said: “Jamie has had two good years at Orient, being at the top end of the division, being very consistent and he is still young with lots of improving still to be done and we feel he will fit in well to the group.” The Orient No.1 was a vital cog in the London club’s 2013/14 League One campaign which saw them narrowly miss out on promotion to the Championship following defeat on penalties at the national stadium to Rotherham United. The O’s were keen to h ...

Tomorrow The Millers go too the BIG City and play at Wembley. Some want the Millers fail but how can they fail..?...those same people thought the Millers would finish 20th. The Millers have had a great season and come sooo far we die hards who were there when the Millers had years of hardship and despair kept our belief. .our faith, yes it was hard but a life supporting your team is not meant to be easy. So all my fellow Millers fans safe journeys sunday. And...ENJOY. ..no matter what...UP THE MILLERS. ...AM MILLERS TILL I DUE
Leyton Orient play Rotherham United tomorrow at Wembley. The club from London E10 is attempting after many years to return to the 2nd tier of English football. My first visit to Brisbane Road (Matchroom Stadium these days) on 1 October 1977 was to see Spurs playing Orient (as they were then) at that level. One of two 1-1 draws between the sides that season, this match was witnessed by a crowd of 24,131. It would be good to see Leyton Orient promoted but I'm sure Rotherham United will have a different view!
Centre-half Gavin Gunning, who is reportedly a summer transfer target for Sheffield Wednesday, has admitted he is leaving Dundee United this summer. The out-of-contract Irish defender made the admission following United’s 2-0 loss to St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup final last weekend. Gunning, who spent four months on loan at Rotherham United during the 2009/10 season, said: “This is probably going to be my last game for the club.” The 23-year-old, who began his career at Blackburn Rovers, played 33 times for the Tangerines last term as they finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership. When asked about his long-term future, Gunning added: “You never know what is around the corner. I will have to speak to my family about it and then we will go from there.” Owls head coach Stuart Gray refused to comment on speculation linking them with Gunning earlier this month. “There are going to be names that are thrown about,” he said. “I would imagine it is the agents trying to create a bit

Goodmorning.BonJour.Hi Bo. Sapp Sanipa Cahumada. That's what I can remember from my National Service days in the R.A.F. when I was stationed in Ceylon back in 1950/51. Then tomorrow I'm meeting another young lady and she is more than a friend. Fabulous! Life is wonderful! Steady James. PNE 1 Rotherham United 1 A stunning goal by Joe Garner just after half-time meant it was all to play for in the second leg at the New York Stadium. Alex Revell gave the visitors the lead 21 minutes in, breaking down the left before driving into the box and firing low under Declan Rudd. But Garner's sweet half volley into the top left hand corner in front of a jubilant Town End meant the tie was all-square heading over to South Yorkshire. Manager Simon Grayson was without the injured Neil Kilkenny, meaning Alan Browne was selected in midfield, whilst Craig Davies came in up front to partner Joe Garner. The atmosphere inside Deepdale was electric and the roof was almost lifted off after only 60 seconds as Joe Garner bundled his way through. There were strong shouts for a penalty, but eventually he had a chance to get a shot away, which shot deflected wide. The game was a typical scrappy Play-Off affair, but some Gallagher quality from the left on 20 minutes saw the No.12 play a ball into Garner unmarked 15 ...

Wolverhampton Wanderers 6 v Rotherham United 4 What a difference a year makes. This time last year just over nineteen thousand turned out to watch Wolves cling on to hopes of Championship survival with a 1-0 win over Hull. That’s right. The same Hull City who are now plying their trade in the Premier League. For Wolves the result was a false dawn as they ultimately hit rock bottom with a second successive season of relegation. In so doing it marked the end of a miserable two years. Years which, like many, I had spent carping from the sidelines about a Club that appeared to be rotting from the head. Though an unknown at the time, relegation to the third division would mark the limit to which Wolves would sink as, bungee jump like, they found themselves rebounding. And foremost amongst the reasons for that renaissance was the appointment of Kenny Jackett. From the start he set out to reconnect the players with the fans a plan which involved offloading overpaid and unloved “stars” and replacing them .. ...
Alex Revell of Rotherham United looks worryingly like Vernon Kay
Having lost 4-1 to Rotherham United at their New York Stadium earlier in the season, and with them, prior to the kick-off, occupying fourth place in League One ~ plus being on a 15-match unbeaten run, the game at Priestfield yesterday afternoon was never going to be anything other than something of a real test for Gillingham. And they couldn't have got off to a worse start! With only thirteen seconds having elapsed Kieren Agard put the visitors in front. *** Shock! Horror! Stands back in amazement! :-O (Oh no, not another drubbing coming up, please?!). But, later, on the half hour, Adebayo Akinfenwa scored in his usual manner, using his bonce, making it 1-1. Yay! Game back on! (y) And from then onwards the outcome of this tussle was always resting on something of a knife-edge right up until the ref blew for full time. Talk about ride my seesaw! (The Moody Blues, 1968. A classic). With less than a quarter of an hour of the second half played, Myles Weston booted home to give Gillingham a 2-1 advantage...b ...
