Report: Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle exploring selling the Pittsburgh Penguins - PensBurgh
By Gene Collier / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Penguins co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle both told the Post-Gazette today that head coach Dan Bylsma “absolutely,” could keep his job in the wake of Friday’s firing of general manager Ray Shero. “That’s why we didn’t fire him,” Lemieux said. “He’s a good coach. You look at his record in the regular season, in the playoffs. If he was fired today, there’d be a lot of teams lined up for him. “He’s done a lot of good things for the organization and he’s been a great asset. A new GM will come in, evaluate the hockey operation, and we’ll go from there.” Morehouse announces firing of Penguins GM Ray Shero David Morehouse, on behalf of the Pittsburgh Penguins ownership, announces the firing of General Manager Ray Shero. "The confidence of Ray Shero, Ron Burkle & Mario Lemieux that I am the coach of this team now and going forward was very big for us" -HC Bylsma.
Ray Shero said that Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle were 100% supportive of all his decisions regarding this franchise. This is what good owners do, they hire smart people to run their teams. Great owners do not interfere with operations unless it's the last the only option. See Jerry Jones and Al Davis as the opposite of this spectrum. Lemieux and Burkle are two of the best owners in pro sports right now. The Penguins are successful every year, they do so much for their fans, even the lower-income fans, and they are smart business people as well. The Penguins are a model franchise. This is why I wrote a letter to Mario when I was a kid asking him to be my dad.
"Co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle had a message for (Ray) Shero."
Penguins' apology MONDAY, 07 JANUARY 2013 13:04 WRITTEN BY DAVE MOLINARI The Penguins posted this statement from co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle and CEO David Morehouse on their website today: To our Penguins Fans and Community: We offer our apology. There is nothing we can say to explain or excuse what has happened over the past four months. However, now that the NHL is back, we want to assure you that the Pittsburgh Penguins will do everything we can to regain your trust and show how much we value your amazing support. The sounds of skates churning across the ice and pucks banging against the glass are returning to CONSOL Energy Center. That means a healthy Sidney Crosby is about to rejoin NHL MVP Evgeni Malkin, first-team All-Star James Neal, Marc-Andre Fleury, Kris Letang, Brooks Orpik and others as we begin our quest to bring the Stanley Cup back to Pittsburgh. We want to thank you for your patience and your loyalty to the Penguins. We hope to repay it many times over. Our commitment to winnin ...
The players left the meetings around midnight last night. One player texted: ”There was certainly traction. But I don’t want to say more.” “Cautious Optimism” is a word being used by many. Bill Daly and Steve Fehr stood side-by-side addressing the media after the talks had finished. Penguins billionaire owner Ron Burkle “shined brightly in talks.” Burkle had been talking with Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby and Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson, over the past couple weeks. -Jonathan
