Film legend Warren Beatty has wrapped principal photography on his Howard Hughes project--the director's first feature in almost 20 years--after a 74-day shoot. The film's plot is being kept under wraps, but reportedly focuses on a late-life affair the aviation pioneer (Beatty) had with a much younger woman (Lily Collins). Beatty is 77, Collins 25. It's taken quite some time for Beatty's film to take off: just this February, Deadline reported that billionaires Ron Burkle and Steve Bing, Windsor Media’s Terry Semel, Arnon Milchan’s New Regency and James Packer’s and Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment had finally come together to finance the roughly $27 million production.Beatty wrote the film and will star as the older Hughes, joined by Alden Ehrenreich as Hughes's assistant. In addition, Martin Sheen, Annette Bening and Matthew Broderick will also star, along with Alec Baldwin as Robert Maheu, a confidante of Hughes who purportedly received all his instructions from the idiosyncrati...
By Gene Collier / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Penguins co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle both told the Post-Gazette today that head coach Dan Bylsma “absolutely,” could keep his job in the wake of Friday’s firing of general manager Ray Shero. “That’s why we didn’t fire him,” Lemieux said. “He’s a good coach. You look at his record in the regular season, in the playoffs. If he was fired today, there’d be a lot of teams lined up for him. “He’s done a lot of good things for the organization and he’s been a great asset. A new GM will come in, evaluate the hockey operation, and we’ll go from there.” Morehouse announces firing of Penguins GM Ray Shero David Morehouse, on behalf of the Pittsburgh Penguins ownership, announces the firing of General Manager Ray Shero. Ray Shero said that Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle were 100% supportive of all his decisions regarding this franchise. This is what good owners do, they hire smart people to run their teams. Great owners do not interfere with operations unless it's the last the only option. See Jerry Jones and Al Davis as the opposite of this spectrum. Lemieux and Burkle are two of the best owners in pro sports right now. The Penguins are successful every year, they do so much for their fans, even the lower-income fans, and they are smart business people as well. The Penguins are a model franchise. This is why I wrote a letter to Mario when I was a kid asking him to be my dad.
Darius Anderson. The man that introduced Mayor Johnson to Ron Burkle.
Art Rooney II is the worst thing that has happened to the Steelers. Mario and Ron Burkle are the best thing that happened to the Pens.
Of late there has been growing momentum for Sacramento in its fight to keep the Kings. Mayor Kevin Johnson has helped bring together a bid led by 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov (who was second in the bidding for the Warriors a couple years ago) and supermarket magnate Ron Burkle. The plan call...
The NBA has received an official offer from 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov and billionaire Ron Burkle to buy the Sacramento Kings and keep the team from moving to Seattle.
The Mayor revealed his "whales" today as Mark Mastrov and Ron Burkle. He also said an arena would be built at the Downtown Plaza site and that the Sacramento corporate community has pledged over $50 million in sponsorships at a new arena.
So, what do you think now about the Kings chances of staying? (Editor's (That's me.) note: If you going to write the Kings suck, or who cares, or let them leave, or Maloofs suck...please don't. Just move along.) I am sure the mayor's address last night at Memorial Auditorium was the first State of the City speech in American history that turned into a full blown pep rally. When Kevin Johnson announced Mark Mastrov and Ron Burkle, especially Burkle, as the big money men who will try to keep the Kings and build an arena in Sacramento, the auditorium exploded. I said last night on FOX, that finally naming the two confirmed the worst kept secret in Sacramento history, but the confirmation was exciting. Make no mistake, really rich guys like Ron Burkle get things done, and they rarely publicly say they are going to do something unless they are darn sure they can do it. I doubt Burkle would put his name on this project if he weren't completely confident it can be accomplished. Of course, there is a lot that sti ...
For more than a year, Southern California grocery tycoon Ron Burkle and his business associates have pursued a plan to build a new arena in Downtown Plaza to cement the Kings' future in Sacramento.
Mark Mastrov and Ron Burkle have a submitted a proposed bid to buy the Kings that's "slightly lower" than the Seattle group's agreement.
Now that you heard Kevin Johnson's announcement of Mark Mastrov and Ron Burkle as his two whales (among other things) what is your reaction? LIKE if you are still confident that the NBA is coming to SEA this year and comment to tell us what else and why.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson says two investors want to buy the NBA's Kings and build a downtown arena to stop the proposed move of city's only major league sports team to Seattle. Mark Mastrov, founder of 24 Hour Fitness, will make a bid for the team. Pittsburg Penguins owner Ron Burkle will solve the city's other problem and lead a group to build a new downtown arena. Johnson, a former NBA All-Star, made the announcement Thursday during his state of the city address. The Maloof family has a deal to sell the Kings to a group led by Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer and hedge fund manager Chris Hansen. The NBA board of governors will make a decision on the sale by mid-April.

Sac town, KJ, and Ron Burkle your a little too late the sale is done, go cheer for golden state theyre only a couple hours away... Cali dont need 4 teams
I have to admit I feel much better this morning about the chances of Sacramento keeping the Kings than I did 24 hours ago, and it's not because of the mayor's press conference yesterday. Don't misunderstand, I think it's great those 19 (now 20) local people stepped up and committed a million dollars each to help keep the Kings here. The fact that the mayor got million dollar committments from 20 people in only about five days is very impressive. Let's not forget a million dollars is a lot of money. However, when the Seattle people have a committment approaching a billion, with a B, dollars already in writing, Sac's twenty million pales. The really big news for Sacramento came Tuesday night from reporter Ryan Lillis at The Bee. He reported billionaire Ron Burkle and 24 Fitness founder Mark Mastrov, who recently sold 24 Fit for a reported 1.7 billion dollars, are talking about teaming up to buy the Kings and help build the arena downtown. They can easily afford it, and both have NBA credibility. NBA Commiss ...

Penguins' apology MONDAY, 07 JANUARY 2013 13:04 WRITTEN BY DAVE MOLINARI The Penguins posted this statement from co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle and CEO David Morehouse on their website today: To our Penguins Fans and Community: We offer our apology. There is nothing we can say to explain or excuse what has happened over the past four months. However, now that the NHL is back, we want to assure you that the Pittsburgh Penguins will do everything we can to regain your trust and show how much we value your amazing support. The sounds of skates churning across the ice and pucks banging against the glass are returning to CONSOL Energy Center. That means a healthy Sidney Crosby is about to rejoin NHL MVP Evgeni Malkin, first-team All-Star James Neal, Marc-Andre Fleury, Kris Letang, Brooks Orpik and others as we begin our quest to bring the Stanley Cup back to Pittsburgh. We want to thank you for your patience and your loyalty to the Penguins. We hope to repay it many times over. Our commitment to winnin ...
Ron Burkle, Co-Owner, Pittsburgh Penguins "The idea to put players and owners together in the same room was a refreshing idea. Commissioner Bettman should be thanked for proposing it and the Fehrs should be thanked for agreeing to it. The players came with a strong desire to get back to playing hockey. They were professional and did a good job of expressing their concerns and listening to ours. We wanted to move quickly and decisively. We have all spent too much time without any real progress at the expense of our fans, our sponsors and the communities we serve. It was time to make bold moves and get a deal. Many people think we got over our skis and they are probably right, but we wanted to do everything we could to get back to hockey now. We didn't hold back. We made substantial movement on our end quickly, but unfortunately that was not met with the same level of movement from the other side. The players asked us to be patient and keep working with them. |t's not what they do and they wanted us to know ...
These statements are from Jeff Vinik of the Lightning, Ron Burkle of the Penguins, Mark Chipman of the Jets and Larry Tanenbaum of the Maple Leafs.
C.B.A UPDATE! :) national Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman said the League's Board of Governors was provided an update to the ongoing negotiations toward a new Collective Bargaining Agreement during a two-hour meeting Wednesday. Commissioner Bettman did not divulge any details and did not take any questions from the media after making a brief statement following the Board of Governors meeting. "We are pleased with the process that is ongoing and out of respect for that process I don't have anything else to say and I'm not going to take any questions," Commissioner Bettman said. Virtually the same constituents from the NHL and National Hockey League Players' Association that met during eight hours Tuesday -- and again briefly Wednesday morning before the Board of Governors -- reconvened for further talks Wednesday afternoon. Representing the NHL owners are Ron Burkle (Pittsburgh Penguins), Mark Chipman (Winnipeg Jets), Murray Edwards (Calgary Flames), Jeremy Jacobs (Boston Bruins) Larry Tanenbaum (T ...
The players left the meetings around midnight last night. One player texted: ”There was certainly traction. But I don’t want to say more.” “Cautious Optimism” is a word being used by many. Bill Daly and Steve Fehr stood side-by-side addressing the media after the talks had finished. Penguins billionaire owner Ron Burkle “shined brightly in talks.” Burkle had been talking with Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby and Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson, over the past couple weeks. -Jonathan
Sidney Crosby and Penguins owner Ron Burkle are apparently positioning themselves to be our lockout saviors. That's okay.
And Yes, Jeremy Jacobs was one of 6 owners in the 8 hour meeting tonight. (other owners in attendance: Ron Burkle (PIT) Mark Chipman (WPG) Murray Edwards (CGY) Larry Tanenbaum (TOR) Jeff Vinik (TBL))
Though Pittsburgh Penguins owner Ron Burkle and captain Sidney Crosby are getting much praise for progress today with talks between teh NHL and the NHLPA, Tampa Bay officials have been major allies.
Report: Sidney Crosby and Penguins co-owner Ron Burkle pushing for season-saving CBA deal in owners-players meeting.
Ron Burkle is playing the role of Robert Kraft in the NHL lockout. Apparently.
It appears that both Fehr and Bettman will join the meetings tonight. Could we have a deal? If so, a lot of the credit will go the Sidney Crosby and Ron Burkle, the Penguins owner, who apparently has been a HUGE voice of reason through out the day.
"Ron Burkle = Robert Kraft??? I miss hockey. I want to see john huburdeau play.
also told that Pens owner Ron Burkle made his presence felt in the meeting so far today. I think the players are receptive to him...
If a deal ultimately gets done, it may be that owner Ron Burkle may assume the "Robert Kraft/NFL lockout" role.
Crosby & Toews could be at owners meeting Tues. The NHLPA hasn’t officially said which players will meet with six owners Tuesday afternoon in New York, but two likely attendees include Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews, according to the Canadian Press. Both players are expected to be in New York tomorrow. It goes without saying that Crosby’s participation in the stalled CBA negotiations, to be held without NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and union chief Donald Fehr, would be significant. The 25-year-old Pittsburgh captain, arguably hockey’s biggest star, hasn’t been hesitant to share his opinion on the lockout. It’s also worth noting that Pittsburgh owner Ron Burkle is one of the six owners slated to be there. In June, Crosby signed a 12-year, $104.4 million contract extension with the Penguins. Toews has been equally, if not more, critical of the league’s demands. “We saw what the (owners) did in ’04-05, and who knows if they’re willing to do that again,” the 24-year-0ld Blackhawks capta ...
LW Chris Kunitz, on Penguins players' dealings with low-profile co-owner Ron Burkle: "Any interaction we’ve had with him has been awesome."
So, shortly after mediation took a dump on the CBA meetings last week, a light bulb formed over Gary Bettman's head (or maybe that was just the shine from his baldness?) "Say, if the Players don't trust me, and my people don't trust Donald Fehr or his muppet brother, then perhaps it'd be in the best interest of hockey if we chained ourselves to a parking meter outside the next labor meeting?" Alright, well...that's not exactly what our Commissioner said, I'm just taking a shot in the dark. He actually proposed that a handful of skaters and Club owners get together without the presence of some faces who've soured the progressions over the last five months. Tomorrow (Tuesday) there will be a Players & Owners ONLY meeting (I'm picturing the Little Rascals' clubhouse with the "No Girls Allowed" sign) that will include Ron Burkle of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Jeremy Jacobs of the Boston Bruins, Mark Chipman of the the Winnipeg Jets, Larry Tanenbaum of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Murray Edwards of the Calgary Flames ...

Pittsburgh majority owner Ron Burkle expected to play a big part in the meeting as will Sidney Crosby on the other side for the PA. Barneys New York has new owner Richard Perry (and Ron Burkle is now a minority owner):
WILMINGTON, Delaware (Reuters) - A large radio broadcasting company targeting African-Americans and founded by civil rights leader Percy Sutton could wind up under the control of billionaire Ron Burkle
Take American Apparel (AMEX: APP) as an example. The company is saddled with more than $100 million in debt, much of which is slated for repayment in the next few quarters, but it has less than $10 million in cash on hand. American Apparel generates roughly $70 million in gross profits every quarter, but has $80 million in quarterly overhead. As the losses pile up, American Apparel's balance sheet could weaken further. American Apparel has already raised $22 million in fresh cash this year, but that might not be enough to keep the wolves at bay. Billionaire investor Ron Burkle is one of several investors said to be looking at acquiring some of the company's debt -- not equity. That's often a precursor to eventual hostile moves to take control of the company by calling in debts, wiping out existing shareholders in the process. Short sellers may also be anticipating an eventual bankruptcy filing, because they hold more than 5 million shares in short accounts. Even seemingly healthy companies can get tripped ...
