Watching Andrzej Wajda's 1961 Polish film, "Samson", and I can't believe how similar it is to Roman Polanski's 2002 film "The Pianist". The protagonists even look somewhat similar. There's no doubt that all Polish filmmakers were influenced by Wajda to some extent, but Polanski takes it a step too far I think. Both films take place in Warsaw, Poland during the German occupation in the era of the Warsaw Ghetto, and both feature a Jewish protagonist who manages to escape the constraints of the ghetto to the non-Jewish, non-ghetto side of Warsaw, where they must try to survive, only to find that it is equally difficult there as it was in the ghetto. I always gave Polanski's film credit for being original, but having seen "Samson", I've lost that respect for it. Roman Polanski and Woody Allen are fighting over who gets to cast Quvenzhane Wallis in their next film.

Another woman has come forward charging that Roman Polanski raped her in 1974, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned. The woman, who was 21 at the time, reported the alleged sexual assault to the Los Angeles District Attorney in May and was interviewed by authorities.

I think its wonderful that a guy who is a pedefile, and convicted tax fraud is likely to win more votes than a Comedian who was convicted of Manslaughter in a supposed first world country. Seriously, people need to get a sense of humor. It's pissing me off how much flack Macfarlane is getting. He's brilliant, not sexist or racist or anything in that vein. Get that stick out of your *** and take a joke. Put your anger towards someone who deserves it.

I want to be snarky about the Oscars and about the reactions to the Oscars but my cynicism would be the flip side of disappointed ideals, and I think that's what *everyone* deals with, in some way, when the dreams we want from mass culture collide with the realities of what goes on behind the scenes, or in our own lives. I wasn't offended by the iconoclastic and coarse humor of the opening, but eventually it went on too long. I *was* disappointed, like many of my friends, in the things that happened when they brought the "Avengers" cast out to present tech awards. But I lost most of my love for the Oscars over the last ten years or so: part of what caught my attention about the opening was "hey, let's not take this too damned seriously," which I'm totally on board with. Really surprised Argo won Best Picture. I liked it a lot and I'm happy for Mr. Affleck, although I thought Lincoln would win, and I WANTED Silver Linings Playbook to be Best Picture. My biggest joy of the evening is Quvenzhané Wallis(Beasts of the South Wild) NOT winning best actress. The last thing we need is another little spoiled nine year old Hollywood brat walking around. The event surrounding Oscar Pistorius have really set my brain in motion about famous people. He was looked on with great adoration by many people this past summer, since he was a double amputee who managed to make the Olympic finals on the track. An impressive feat, one that must have required intense dedication and drive. Now he has allegedly killed his girlfriend, and the stories seem to show they had a violent relationship before this. Does this make his accomplishments at the Olympics any less impressive? Maybe? But he still must have had decidication, this doesn't change that. But it seems to be hard for human brains to resolve this idea that someone can be amazing at something, like athletics, acting, singing, orating, and still be a lousy person. Or even if they aren't lousy, they might just be boring. I suppose it's human nature to see people who are talented in a better light than average people. I bet it relates to the desire we all have to be famous, so we assign a lot of value to it.

Just an associated point: I struggle with separating a content creator from the content that they produce.
