Terry Southern (1 May 1924 – 29 October 1995) was an American author, essayist, screenwriter, and university lecturer, noted for his distinctive satirical style. Part of the Paris postwar literary movement in the 1950s and a companion to Beat writers in Greenwich Village, Southern was also at the center of Swinging London in the 1960s and helped to change the style and substance of American films in the 1970s. In the 1980s he wrote for Saturday Night Live and lectured on screenwriting at several universities in New York. Southern's dark and often absurdist style of satire helped to define the sensibilities of several generations of writers, readers, directors and film goers. He is credited by journalist Tom Wolfe as having invented New Journalism with the publication of "Twirling at Ole Miss" in Esquire in 1962, and his gift for writing memorable film dialogue was evident in Dr. Strangelove, The Loved One, The Cincinnati Kid, Easy Rider, and The Magic Christian. His work on Easy Rider helped create the ...

Watched the famous Rosemary's Baby last night (Roman Polanski). Mia Farrow is amazing.
Watching Andrzej Wajda's 1961 Polish film, "Samson", and I can't believe how similar it is to Roman Polanski's 2002 film "The Pianist". The protagonists even look somewhat similar. There's no doubt that all Polish filmmakers were influenced by Wajda to some extent, but Polanski takes it a step too far I think. Both films take place in Warsaw, Poland during the German occupation in the era of the Warsaw Ghetto, and both feature a Jewish protagonist who manages to escape the constraints of the ghetto to the non-Jewish, non-ghetto side of Warsaw, where they must try to survive, only to find that it is equally difficult there as it was in the ghetto. I always gave Polanski's film credit for being original, but having seen "Samson", I've lost that respect for it. "The Pianist" was still undoubtedly a quality film, original or not, but seeing this, my seventh Andrzej Wajda film, has definitely reaffirmed for me once again Wajda's status as the undisputed king of Polish cinema. What a beast. I can definitely see ...

Roman Polanski was 56 when he married 23yr old Emmanuel Siegner, who he directed in Frantic. She seemed a bit young for him to me.
I think that some of the jokes on Sunday were pitched to the people in the audience, not to the viewers. The Ben Affleck/Kardashian clan reference still makes no sense to me. The mix-up between Denzel Washington's career and Eddie Murphy's was an effective way to tweak Eddie Murphy, who famously bailed on hosting last year's Oscars, after the show's producer quit when insensitive remarks provoked a backlash in the *** community. And Ted's mention of the orgy, in his drilling of Mark Wahlberg, would have reminded those in the know that Nicholson's pool was the scene of an infamous scandal--the rape of an underage girl by director Roman Polanski. I don't think this was unintentional. He startled me in his intro when he mentioned "Roman;" my mind flew to Polanski. It turned out that he was referring to Roman Coppola, but I think that we were meant to make the connection. Dredging up the ugliness again through the medium of the id-driven Ted, and then ending the evening as always, with Nicholson being g ...

Not surprised there wasn't more fuss from Hollywood about MacFarlane's jokes. These are the same people who stood behind Roman Polanski.
Have you seen Christoph Waltz in "Carnage"? Roman Polanski directed, based on a play. Strong performances by small impressive cast.
come on, Patty, this is the same group that gave a child rapist a standing ovation a few years ago. (Roman Polanski)
Anyone familiar with Roman Polanski will understand that joke.
Just watched the Oscars- finally- and I must say Seth MacFarlane did a great job hosting!
which is why I persisted with it. Roman Polanski is a fantastic film maker and the acting was superb.

*A controversial man and an equally controversial Roman Polanski: Wanted And Desired (HBO):
Happy ranty Tuesday. I’ve seen a few articles expressing their outrage over Seth MacFarlane’s misogyny at the Oscars and it actually really upsets me. I give them something of a pass because a lot of people don’t know who he is and aren’t familiar with his material, so they don’t know that he’s famous for drawing attention to social issues by playing the part of a villain, a la Andy Kaufmann, another comedian who got a lot of outrage for his sexist acts. And if MacFarlane’s intention is to draw attention to these issues (he’s not a feminist by ANY stretch of the imagination, but his humor, like the one with the opening number "We Saw Your Boobs," is purposefully making the point of 'you producers realize that this is what we’re all thinking when there’s gratuitous nudity in a film'), then all the articles talking about his sexism might have had a purpose. But they don’t have a purpose. And my proof for why I claim these articles actually do more harm than good is Anne Hathaway. You m ...

Roman Polanski is probably Hollywood's most interesting character.
Just watched 'Carnage' a 2011 movie by Roman Polanski that is fantastically acted by Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, John C Reily and Christopher Waltz (whom I had never heard of, but is quite good). The whole 80 minutes (except the first and last few) take place in a NY apartment. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and recommend it.
yeah but it does make me wonder if Roman Polanski ever twerks to Menudo songs.
Just bought the best knife ever last weekend.
Yes, Netflix. I accidentally typed "Roman Polanski," but what I meant to type was "Everybody Love Raymond."
There’s already been a lot of talk about Seth MacFarlane’s successes and failures as host of the 85th Annual Academy Awards. The Atlantic deemed his racist, sexist humor “banal.” The New Yorker called him out for misogyny, specifically when it comes to the workplace. Elissa Schappell called a spade…
Critics blasted Oscars host Seth MacFarlane on Monday for “crudely sexist antics” and peddling “offensive” Jewish stereotypes, as the Academy Awards post mortem got into full swing.

Am I the only one who didn't think the "I saw your boobs" song was that bad. I mean it wasn't exactly funny but it wasn't exactly misogynistic. Don't we have better things to worry about? It's a boob joke. Yeah it's immature, but that's what he was going for.
I don't recall feminists getting upset when the Oscar crowd gave rapist Roman Polanski a loud ovation a few years back
Okay. I'm going to say something that is not popular: I thought that implying that Selma Hayek has nothing to say because she's pretty was stupid, I thought making a reference to when Roman Polanski raped a 13 year old was appalling and I thought that the joke that sexualized Quvenzhane Wallis was tasteless at best. But I thought the "We Saw Your Boobs" song was funny. Sorry. Please don't revoke my feminist card.
One of...Horror film. Not even your rivel Roman Polanski couldn't write what you truly had transpired. Sorry need to use smaller words
Hanoi Jane? Michelle Obama? Bad, but not quite as offensive as when the pro-women Hollywood elite cheered rapist Roman Polanski loudly
Last night's Roman Polanski joke just kicked in
Dear Anti-Defamation League, I don't understand why some things are ok with you and some things aren't. Sometimes you make it worse for us without you realizing it. What was said at the Oscars, while not the funniest thing Seth MacFarlane has ever done, wasn't that bad. "Jews run Hollywood" jokes have been in circulation for years. It was just a less entertaining version of Spamalot's "You won't succeed on Broadway if you don't have any Jews." Why are you all up in arms about this? Other Jews please feel free to chime in...did you find it offensive?
Roman Polanski makes his 2nd appearance of the day in a NY weekly mag.
Point 8: Roman Polanski IS a rapist and Jack Nicholson abetted him... right? I love how "feminists" don't want to out scumbags at the Oscars
This guy on the bus looks like Roman Polanski which is weird considering that I just watched Rosemary's Baby in class.
You can be offended if you want, but I think what Roman Polanski did is NOT OK, and I'll stick to that.
no doubt it will probably have you living with Roman Polanski just so you do get lynched/arrested.
"Quite often I reflect on the big house in Hollywood, on "Midnight Confessions" and on Ramon Novarro and on the fact that Roman Polanski and I are godparents to the same child, but writing has not yet helped me to see what it means."

How many people really thought of Roman Polanski at the mention of Nicholson's house last night and how many didn't but are now livid?
The Academy of Motion Pictures awarded child rapist Roman Polanski an Oscar of course
Disgusted. Then I remembered the Academy gave an Oscar and standing ovation to child rapist Roman Polanski. They're consistent.
my favouirte Steve martin joke at the Oscars was when he was hosting and said "Roman Polanski is here.GET HIM!"

Roman Polanski and Woody Allen are fighting over who gets to cast Quvenzhane Wallis in their next film.
“Django Unchained ... the story of a man fighting to get back his woman, who has been subjected to unthinkable violence. Or as Chris Brown and Rihanna call it, a date movie.”--Seth MacFarlane at the Oscars
Another woman has come forward charging that Roman Polanski raped her in 1974, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned. The woman, who was 21 at the time, reported the alleged sexual assault to the Los Angeles District Attorney in May and was interviewed by authorities.
Ted (the teddy bear character from the movie of the same title, voiced by Academy Awards host Seth Macfarlane): “Look at all those people out there, dressed up looking sharp. Thinking about how much sex they are going to have with each other later.”
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed this: "Throughout the night, MacFarlane returned over and over to the topic of women and how silly they are — how Jessica Chastain's character in Zero Dark Thirty is an example of how women never let anything go, for instance — to the point where it seemed like his shtick would have benefited from a simple count of how many times he was returning to the well of "Women, am I right?"--Linda Holmes, NPR.org

I think its wonderful that a guy who is a pedefile, and convicted tax fraud is likely to win more votes than a Comedian who was convicted of Manslaughter in a supposed first world country. I think I'll put that trip to Italy off for a while longer. Maybe they should ask Roman Polanski if he wants to run for PM next vote. I'm not sure how one rationalizes that, but I guess there are lots of people who can.
Seriously, people need to get a sense of humor. It's pissing me off how much flack Macfarlane is getting. He's brilliant, not sexist or racist or anything in that vein. Get that stick out of your *** and take a joke. Put your anger towards someone who deserves it.
I want to be snarky about the Oscars and about the reactions to the Oscars but my cynicism would be the flip side of disappointed ideals, and I think that's what *everyone* deals with, in some way, when the dreams we want from mass culture collide with the realities of what goes on behind the scenes, or in our own lives. I wasn't offended by the iconoclastic and coarse humor of the opening, but eventually it went on too long. I *was* disappointed, like many of my friends, in the things that happened when they brought the "Avengers" cast out to present tech awards. But I lost most of my love for the Oscars over the last ten years or so: part of what caught my attention about the opening was "hey, let's not take this too damned seriously," which I'm totally on board with. But when that same attitude led to cutting off creative people working in the less obviously glamorous parts of the industry, I was simply reminded how unfabulous many creative people's lives are, and how underappreciated their efforts are ...
Did Jerry McGuire win last night?? (yup, that's about how current this momma is)
“To give you an idea of just how young she is, it will be 16 years before she is too young for Clooney” – Seth McFarlane talking about 9 year old Quvenzhane Wallis during the Oscars Is a joke about a nine year old girl getting it on with George Clooney ever acceptable? And why does Seth apologise to George? We would like to hear your thoughts on this.
Oscars sound of music reference. Gold.
What an amazing Oscars night!!! I hope everyone enjoyed the show :)
Really surprised Argo won Best Picture. I liked it a lot and I'm happy for Mr. Affleck, although I thought Lincoln would win, and I WANTED Silver Linings Playbook to be Best Picture. My biggest joy of the evening is Quvenzhané Wallis(Beasts of the South Wild) NOT winning best actress. The last thing we need is another little spoiled nine year old Hollywood brat walking around. And we all love Jennifer Lawrence a million times over for falling on the steps and taking it like a champion(no sarcasm). What are your thoughts?
Listen back to today's show (which was free of all Oscar talk). We reviewed ROMAN POLANSKI: A FILM MEMOIR, AMOUR and BEAUTY (DVD).
I hope people seriously regret Seth Macfarlane hosting the Oscars.
I doubt it will ever happen but I hope I am alive to see Roman Polanski accept his award for best Director
Thank you for allowing me to witness Tim Burton sell out before my very eyes, Oscar Academy. He must have more dirt on him than Roman Polanski for that to happen
This just in: Tarentino is your most embarrassing ex.
By the way to fully appreciate that "the orgy's at Jack Nicholson's house" joke one needs to know that is where Roman Polanski raped that 13 year old girl. Funny Stuff! Not!
Just looked up the films Chicago beat in 2002 -- weak, weak field.
WHEN is Tess of the D'urbervilles gonna get some love?! I did not read that in Mrs. Telford's class, for it to NEVER be made into a MOTION PICTURE starring Anne Hathaway!!
Don't beat me for What goes on in 'YOUR' head. If the character had been male my comment would have read, 'his hands'. Well, you got some attention, do you now feel like you belong. JWW.
Wow...what a joke was by Macfarlane's Ted with Mark Walhberg
Why is it okay for a repulsive stuffed animal to be talking about Hollywood orgy parties on prime time tv?
Did they just make a joke that people in "the know" would understand was at the expense of the child Roman Polanski raped at Jack Nicholson's house or am I imagining things.
I definitely have a crush on Seth MacFarlane right now.
Looks like the social media tide has turned against Seth MacFarlane. John Wilkes Booth joke...um...really?
Roman Polanski joke would have worked better there, Seth!
The event surrounding Oscar Pistorius have really set my brain in motion about famous people. He was looked on with great adoration by many people this past summer, since he was a double amputee who managed to make the Olympic finals on the track. An impressive feat, one that must have required intense dedication and drive. Now he has allegedly killed his girlfriend, and the stories seem to show they had a violent relationship before this. Does this make his accomplishments at the Olympics any less impressive? Maybe? But he still must have had decidication, this doesn't change that. But it seems to be hard for human brains to resolve this idea that someone can be amazing at something, like athletics, acting, singing, orating, and still be a lousy person. Or even if they aren't lousy, they might just be boring. I suppose it's human nature to see people who are talented in a better light than average people. I bet it relates to the desire we all have to be famous, so we assign a lot of value to it.
Join us tonight, Saturday, February 23rd @ midnight for CHINATOWN, frequently recognized as one of the greatest films in world cinema. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, ultimately winning Best Original Screenplay for Robert Towne, this 1974 part mystery and part psychological drama follows a private detective investigating an adultery case, who stumbles on to a scheme of murder that has something to do with water. As bruised and cynical as the decade that produced it, this American neo-noir classic benefits from Towne's brilliant screenplay, director Roman Polanski's steady hand, and wonderful performances from Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. Looking forward to seeing you tonight at Manor @ Midnight!

Anyone theorizing how Orson Scott Card's homophobia will impact the success of the ENDER'S GAME film later this year needs to consider the success of GAME OF THRONES. Then, take a step back and think on the career of Roman Polanski. You ponder that; I'll be over here watching movies.
Apparently, if you follow Gary Rhodes he'll always lead you to Roman Polanski.
The impulsive, consumerist desire to have every available film from the best of the best directors (such as Danny Boyle, Steven Spielberg, Stanley Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola, Paul Thomas Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, David O. Russell, Quentin Tarantino, Ang Lee, Clint Eastwood, John Ford, Frank Capra, Peter Jackson, the Coen brothers, Gus Van Sant, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, Alfonso Cuaron, Spike Lee, Tim Burton, David Lynch, Kathryn Bigelow, Michael Mann, Ken Loach, Mike Leigh, Roman Polanski, Brian DePalma, Cameron Crowe, Todd Haynes, and more) has left. From now on, the personal collection of over 100 DVD films is to be reduced by 25-50%, left with only the absolute "best of the best" including Oscar nominated films, critically engaging films, emotional films, etc. If this situation were a Biblical epic, the capitalist consumerism society is abracadabra/abraxas - etymological root/a Gnostic term for God - and I am rejecting magic. +Paraphrased from ...

I don't even consider Cameron as a Director before. And I am not the one who watch only QT and Nolan but am Impressed one for their works. I love Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Roman Polanski , David Lynch , Stanley Kubrick , Steven Spielberg , Steven Soderberg , Clint Eastwood , Guy Ritchie , M . Knight Shyamalan , Tony and Ridley Scott and even I consider Tinto Brass as a Director. As far as my concern these James Cameron and Michael Bay things are very suitable to build next XBOX and PlayStation Games. These guys only deserve to build Time Waste Games for Kids not to make Movies like above mentioned guys. And your Park Chan whatever Asian guy ... I don't know him. But Stoker seems nice. I guess you have seen some scene are shot which QT lifted from your guy. So your fascination towards Park became hesitation towards QT. Even QT inspired from Kamal Hassan Animation Violence in Abhay and he made it into Kill Bill Duo logy. You need to remember two points here: 1. One does not simply became Hollywood leg ...
Wow! Jim Belushi is in Roman Polanski's 'Ghost Writer'... I wonder if it was strange for him to act again..
Just an associated point: I struggle with separating a content creator from the content that they produce. In two specific cases I enjoy films from certain directors who have either engaged in egregious verbal mistakes and assaults or have committed and actual crime. in my case it's Mel Gibson and Roman Polanski. While I havent seen any of Polanski's later films, CHINATOWN and ROSEMARY'S BABY remain two of my favorite films. I own a copy of Chinatown on DVD and wasnt thinking at all about the fact that he was accused of raping an underaged girl and fled the country because of it. I DID think about it when I was planning on buying my Criterion version of ROSEMARY'S BABY and as much as I want that BluRay, I decided that I dont quite want it that bad. I dont know what the financial arrangement is between him and Paramount but I dont want to risk that any of my money is going to him. Mel Gibson is a sort of different story. Growing up I was a fan of Bruce Lee. Mostly because of his martial prowress but also b ...
Roman Polanski just might be my favorite filmmaker of all time. He is one of the most cathartic and personal figures in the medium. He has made a handful of my favorite movies and these are some essays I have written about my five favorite films from Roman.1. Rosemary's Baby (1968) Rosemary's Baby is my favorite horror film of all time, *** it might just be my all-time favorite movie. Its got it all: a genius director, marvelous actors, a haunting tale, spooky neighbors, dastardly witches, and, of course, Satan. The film revolves around a young woman named Rosemary Woodhouse. Rosemary and her husband are expecting a child. But Rosemary doesn't look so good. Rosemary is starting to believe that she has been impregnated by evil itself, and everyone she knows might be in on it. As a thriller it works on a level Hitchcock only hinted at. Its a film that surpasses masterpiece and classic, and rests snug atop the terrain of legend. It was once a venial sin to watch this film, condemned by the Cath ...

Arguing that it is acceptable to hire Orson Scott Card to write Superman just so long as he does not put his homophobic beliefs into the story is sort of like saying it's okay to have Roman Polanski direct a movie just so long as it doesn't endorse pedophilia.

Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Roman Polanski have all done worse. Take your pick. (Did you forget about them, or...?) :/
If you want to see a better movie with the same tone and feel, skip 'Side Effects' and see master filmmaker Roman Polanski's 'The Ghost Writer' instead.

It’s a disgrace that Chapel Island elected a convicted sex offender as chief. Topics : Chapel Island , Hollywood It’s also a disgrace that Hollywood awarded convicted sex offender Roman Polanski an Oscar. Why do we expect more of Chapel Island than we do of our celebrities? We live in a society where violence against women is not seen as a reflection on the overall character of the perpetrator. I’ve seen female celebrities defend Polanski and I assume female residents of Chapel Island voted for the new chief. When some of the men tried to do the right thing, they were thwarted by the Indian Act. Women do not see sexual violence as an assault against all women the way other groups such as Afro-Canadians and Jews see racism and anti-Semitism as an attack against the entire group. That’s unfortunate, because they should. The definition of a hate crime is that it’s committed on the basis of the person assaulted being a member of a group and that it causes all members of that group to fear for their ...
I just gave Roman Polanski my first shot at a considerable viewing; have heard he's quite the genius; watched something called Rosemary's Baby starring that androgynous twig that both Frank Sinatra and Woody Allen were just simply mad about: Mia Farrow. Anyhow what I have to say in conjunction with that particular film and the genius called Polanski? I'm thinking Charles Manson's timing was a little off.

~Oscars 2013~ 12 Ways the 85th Academy Awards Could Make History (9-12) 9. If Denzel Washington wins for Best Actor, he will be the first black actor to have won two Oscars in that category. With his nomination for "Flight," Washington has already set an Oscar record: He now has six nominations and two wins, more than any other African-American actor in the Academy's history. 10. If "Amour" wins Best Picture, it would be the first film in the French language to do so. "The Artist" was French-produced and directed, but when the actors did speak, it was in English. The same with Best Picture nominee "The Pianist" (which won Best Actor for Adrien Brody and Best Director for Roman Polanski): it was produced in France, but the actors primarily spoke English. "Amour" is more likely to win Best Foreign Film. It is also nominated for Best Director, Best Actress and Best Original Screenplay. 11. Letters From Hollywood: Roman Polanski’s Rape Of Child No Big Thing "Does being an 'artist' trump being a rapist?" asks Melissa Silverstein of Women & Hollywood. According to 138 people in the film industry who signed a petition demanding the immediate release of Roman Polanski from Swiss custody, yep! And they're joined by another group of writers and artists Bernard-Henri Lévy is rounding up! On his roster: Salman Rushdie, Milan Kundera, Neil Jordan, Isabelle Adjani, Isabelle Huppert, Mike Nichols, Diane von Furstenberg, and Paul Auster, among others. As for the other petition (launched by French film industry association SACD), in addition to the signatories posted at The Wrap last night (Pedro Almodovar, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Monica Bellucci, Stephen Frears, Tilda Swinton?!?), new big-name rape apologists are signing on all the time! Today, we can add Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Terry Gilliam and — wait for it — Woody Allen to the list. Woody Allen, people. It would be kind of funny ...
And for those who wonder why conservatives believe that the crunchies don't understand anything but hand-wringing and emotion, here are a few quotes that you really want to read: Joe Biden on culturalism: "In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking." 3. Whoopi Goldberg on 43-year-old Roman Polanski raping and sodomizing a 13-year-old girl: "I know it wasn't rape-rape. It was something else but I don't believe it was rape-rape. He went to jail and and [sic] when they let him out he was like "You know what this guy's going to give me a hundred years in jail I'm not staying, so that's why he left." 4. February 1st, 2013 at 3:59PM Anonymous Asked: I don't think Kristen's lack of work is due to her affair. Lots of actors do more scandalous things than that. I think she's not getting jobs because of her behavior at Cannes. When an actor can't stand on a red carpet and smile to promote their movie, the studio will not be happy. Acting in such an unprofessional way as to embarrass your co-stars, your director and yourself is not going to go over well in Hollywood. Notice her lack of work since the Cannes festival? ANSWER: There are plenty of people in Hollywood who have done much, much worse things than she has done. The only thing unusual about her scandal is the amount of photographic evidence involved. Basically you can get away with bratty, scandalous or even criminal behavior in Hollywood if you have a lot of talent, sex appeal or some sort of likeability factor. People still pay to see Mel Gibson’s movies after his violent, racist tirades. People still give child rapist Roman Polanski a standing ova ...

Roman Polanski's silky film noir set in 1930s LA is perhaps the greatest of all American crime movies, a bonafide masterpiece that has been digitally restored.
One of director Roman Polanski's early best, a film noir to end them all: Chinatown (1974) Nicholson & Faye Dunaway (gonemovies.com) In the same year that Paramount was touting The Godfather, Part II as a Best Picture Oscar contender, the studio was cognizant enough to release Polish-born director Roman Polanski’s brilliant crime drama Chinatown. With a masterful, Academy Award-winning screenplay (by writer Robert Towne), superb art direction (W. Stewart Campbell), and finely detailed production values (Robert Evans is credited as producer), it took the cinema world by storm; movie critics fell over themselves with high praise for the venture. That one-word title alone is enough to tell the tawdry tale of well-to-do — and well-heeled — private gumshoe J.J. Gittes (Jake to his “friends”), smartly played by Jack Nicholson, and his seemingly innocuous involvement with Mrs. Evelyn Mulwray (Faye Dunaway), the wife of Hollis Mulwray (Darrell Zwerling), chief engineer for the Los Angeles Water and Powe ...
Child A German army officer whose character was portrayed in Roman Polanski's 2002 Oscar-winning film The Pianist has received a posthumous honour from Israel for saving the lives of Jews during the holocaust. Captain Wilhelm Hosenfeld, who was played by Thomas Kretchmann in Polanski's drama, worked surreptitiously to save Jews in the Warsaw ghetto during the second world war. In the film he helps a half-starved Polish Jewish musician, Wladyslaw Szpilman, played by Adrien Brody, by bringing him food and allowing him to remain hidden in the attic of an empty building in the devastated city. He is later shown interned in a Russian POW camp after the Nazis are pushed out of Warsaw by the Red Army. The real Hosenfeld died in Soviet captivity in 1952, possibly as a result of torture by the Russian authorities who believed him responsible for war crimes. Hosenfeld joins the few German army officers to receive Israel's Righteous Among the Nations honour, which is awarded by the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial to p ...
Weekly Classics: Chinatown : In all of cinema, perhaps the hardest genre in which to make a great movie would have to be the film noir. Many directors have made countless classic films in the action-adventure, comedy, drama and science fiction genres, but there are startlingly few in comparison when the film noir is brought into the equation. Not surprising, because when you think of it, the prerequisite for a great film noir is a water-tight script, a great director, a perfect cast and a very complex plot that makes logical sense towards the end of the film. To bring all these different pieces together to form a perfect machine is a very difficult task. Not many people can pull that rabbit out of a hat, many have tried, but only few have managed to leave a lasting footprint on this mesmerising genre. One man who did manage it back in 1974 was director Roman Polanski, with his great masterpiece ‘Chinatown’. Polanski may now be making headlines as an absconder fleeing from one country to another for ha ...

I might be falling in love with Roman Polanski. I said, MIGHT.
"Carnage" (2011, Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster) is the movie of the night. How can one go wrong with direction by Roman Polanski? Guess time will tell. Im excited. Love the female leads, both are woman hot, and the plot sound interesting. Okay enough film geekness from this chick. :)
Why was Roman Polanski sad? His pregnant wife was stabbed to death.
