THAT DARN CAT! at The Hollywood Theatre Perfectly satisfying light suspense/comedy populated with a bevy of actors I always enjoy watching: Dean Jones, Roddy McDowall, William Demarest, Frank Gorshin, and Ed Wynn. The cat is guided through a good, engaging performance and there are greater threats and danger than we generally remember or expect from 60s Disney fare.
"Back, Spawn of Satan!" ...Roddy McDowall simply owns as the frightened horror host turned heroic vampire killer Peter Vincent in Fright Night. One of my most beloved film characters of all-time! Pure class. Everything and everybody in this film rocks+the score by Brad Fiedel is excellent!!!
Last night I made Miranda watch one of my favorite movies from when I was her age, "Evil Under the Sun", the Agatha Christie movie with Peter Ustinov, Maggie Smith, Diana Rigg, Roddy McDowall, James Mason, Sylvia Miles and Jane Birken. She seemed bored the entire time we watched it and I was thinking to myself "Perhaps I don't know my daughter at all?". Not the case. She loved it. She just didn't want to admit she was enjoying a movie about a bunch of old people. She's already watched it a second time today.

US New movies for December 30, 2013 Mystery Science Theater 3000: Future War (1999) Evil cyborgs and their dinosaur sidekicks leave the future to chase a runaway human slave (Daniel Bernhardt) to late-1990s Los Angeles, where the fugitive finds help in the form of prostitute-turned-nun Sister Ann (Travis Brooks Stewart). Cheap sets, ludicrous plotting and endless kickboxing get a thorough pummeling from the MST3K crew in this beloved episode. On-ship antics include the formation of acid-rock band Narcotic Casserole. Mystery Science Theater 3000: Laserblast (1996) While sulking in the California desert, misfit teenager Billy Duncan (Kim Milford) stumbles on a powerful alien laser weapon, which he uses to wreak havoc on all who have wronged him. The venerable critic Leonard Maltin gave this space oddity a two-and-a-half star review, a fact that gets quite a drubbing by the crew at MST3K in this fan-favorite episode. Watch for Roddy McDowall in a brief cameo as Dr. Mellon. Sherlock Holmes (2009) Not to be co ...

My TCM Tip for parents with children to keep entertained while the turkey is still cooking and the parade is over: Lassie Come Home @ 12:15pm and NATIONAL VELVET @ 2pm. One for the boys, one for the girls, both in color and truly magical for everybody! Roddy McDowall and Elizabeth Taylor should keep them well behaved and out of the kitchen. But if they don't behave, you can punish them by letting them stay up to watch the dreary, dull Rex Harrison DOCTOR DOLITTLE @ 10:30pm!
This film's star based his characterization on a combination of Roddy McDowall, Angela Lansbury, & Basil Rathbone -
Apologies for the super late Rory's Manic Movie Monday.this one is at the end of Monday so it will bleed into Tuesday...and that pun is intended because this is the Halloween edition of's movie choice is.Fright Night!!! Released in 1985 and Not the crap remake with Colin Farell but the original starring William Ragsdale, Chris Sarandon and Roddy centers upon a young teenager who becomes convinced that a vampire has moved in next door and tries to convince everyone that he's a killer. He manages to convince a late night schlock tv host that he's telling the truth but not before the vampire sets his fangs on his girlfriend. This movie balances cheesy and scary and it makes for a helluva movie. Check it out but're so cool Brewster!!

Depp's next venture with Burton was the role of Ichabod Crane in Sleepy Hollow (1999), opposite Christina Ricci. Sleepy Hollow reflected Burton's battle with the Hollywood studio system.[60] For his performance, Depp took inspiration from Angela Lansbury, Roddy McDowall and Basil Rathbone.[58] Depp stated, "I always thought of Ichabod as a very delicate, fragile person who was maybe a little too in touch with his feminine side, like a frightened little girl."[61] Depp did not work with Burton again until 2005 in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in which he played Willy Wonka. The film was a box office success and received positive critical reception.[62][63] Gene Wilder, who played Willy Wonka in the 1971 film, initially criticized this version.[64] Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was released in July, followed by Corpse Bride, for which Depp voiced the character Victor Van Dort, in September.[65] Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) followed, bringing Depp his second major award win, ...

During her lifetime, Lynn Carey has been an actress who appeared on some of the most popular television shows in the 1960s including, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Donna Reed Show, Lassie and The Wild Wild West. She was a Rock star in the making as the gritty lead singer of the Los Angeles based group Mama Lion, which also toured three times in Europe and she later turned her attention to Jazz, writing her own songs and covering some well-loved Standards earning her the respect of the Jazz community. Ms. Carey also had a major role in the film Lord Love A Duck, a movie that starred Roddy McDowall, Tuesday Weld and Ruth Gordon. One can certainly speculate as to whether her management at the time was inept or simply dropped the ball concerning her career, but when one listens to Ms. Carey sing the song “Wave,” there is little doubt that the singer, whose vocals at their peak had a range of four octaves, should have been gracing the stages in some of the world’s most prestigious Jazz venues. Lynn Carey ...
Seems fitting that on Memorial Day I watch the greatest movie made about the Greatest Generation, "The Longest Day". It also seems only fitting that when you make a movie about the one operation that would either make or break the establishment of the second front in Europe it should be one of those movies with everyone in it. The Longest Day does have the 'longest list' of the best of the best of Hollywood talent. Who was in it? Try the likes of Eddie Albert, Paul Anka, Richard Burton, Red Buttons, Mel Ferrer, Fabian, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, Peter Lawford, Jeffrey Hunter, Curd Jurgens, Robert Mitchum, Sal Mineo, Roddy McDowall, Robert Ryan, George Segal, Rod Steiger, Robert Wagner, Richard Dawson and of course the unforgettable guy you just can't throw an invasion without, John Wayne. You needed the best to represent the best and so thanks to all those who landed on those beaches and never got off of them. We will remember them.

He is best known for playing the creepy Evil Ed in the 1985 vampire horror classic "Fright Night" starring Roddy McDowall, William Ragsdale, and Chris Sarandon. Two of Geoffrey's lines from that film became catch phrases in the mid '80's: "To what do I owe this dubious pleasure?" and "You're so cool, Brewster!" Geoffreys returned to horror in a supporting role as Mr. Putski in the independent film "Sick Girl," released in October 2007, after an almost 17 year absence from mainstream film. More recent f ...
Roddy McDowall is the voice of Jervis Tetch in Batman: The Animated Series. He was Peter Vincent in Fright Night. Paul Williams is the voice of The Penguin. I remember him as Swan in Phantom of the Paradise. Both of these facts make me scream internally.
Just watched this Classic film... thank you Netflix... lived next 2 doors from Anna Lee for 20 years... a totally lovely lady. Married to the Author Robert Nathan. Met Roddy McDowell at a party in the 70's at the Astrologers Home... Carroll Righter. How Green Was My Valley is a 1941 drama film directed by John Ford. The film, based on the 1939 Richard Llewellyn novel, was produced by Darryl F. Zanuck and written by Philip Dunne. The film stars Walter Pidgeon, Maureen O'Hara, Anna Lee, Donald Crisp, and Roddy McDowall. It was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning five and beating out for Best Picture such classics as Citizen Kane, The Maltese Falcon, Suspicion and Sergeant York. The film tells the story of the Morgans, a close, hard-working Welsh family at the turn of the twentieth century in the South Wales coalfield at the heart of the South Wales Valleys. It chronicles a socio-economic way of life passing and the family unit disintegrating.
Horror movie quiz! Fright Night (1985) starred William Ragsdale as Charley Brewster, Amanda Bearse as Amy, and Stephen Geoffreys as "Evil" Ed Thompson. Ragsdale had a three-year stint on the Fox sitcom Herman's Head and currently stars on the series Justified. Bearse spent 10 years on Married...With Children as Marcy Darcy. Geoffreys did the horror film 976-EVIL, then went into other work. The film kind of resurrected (no pun intended) the career of a legendary film actor. Who was this actor? a) Donald Sutherland. b) Vincent Price. c) Rod Steiger. d) Roddy McDowall.
Who was more flamboyant: Paul Lynde, Roddy McDowall, or Charles Nelson Reilly? And, conversely, who was less flamboyant: Rock Hudson or Raymond Burr? There is a correct answer to each question.
My only news intake is the Wall Street Journal and a couple of aggregator feeds, and I don't watch broadcast TV ... so yesterday I was shocked to encounter "Honey Boo Boo Child" for the first time. At this point, being conquered by talking apes would be a giant leap forward for our culture. Bring 'em on, Roddy McDowall.
Roddy McDowall was one of those rarest of actors: a child star who went on to a long and successful career as an adult...
