WARNING LONG MTA RANT: Almost 4 weeks to the day Sandy hit us. My Thanksgiving was beautiful. Spent with Family and Friends, the two most important things in one's life. On Friday morning around 11am, my dad and I left my mom and boarded the A train to Lefferts Blvd at 14 street and 8th avenue. My dad said "we will have to transfer to a shuttle at Rockaway Blvd, the norm when A Train service to Far Rock is down. Mind you, our destination is Broad Channel. We get off the train and see signs for the new "free" H shuttle service from Mott Ave to Beach 90 street. Not sure who it is "free" for? the Rockaways? Anyway, the sign confused us. The route looked like it bypassed Broad Channel, going through the JFK Expressway out to Freeport instead. I told Dad, I would go downstairs and ask the ticket agent. I said to the ticket agent, "we are looking to go to Broad Channel, how do we get there?" He said "Take the train to Howard Beach and their will be different buses there to pick you up. Today begins A train service to Howard Beach with a free shuttle bus to Mott Ave (travels around JFK). Good news for those in Howard Beach, Hamilton Beach and the Rockaways. From Broad Channel, we still need to take the Q52 or Q53 to Rockaway Blvd. for the A train.
