The Doors Examined is ever closer to publication, hopefully a week or two. I'm proud to announce that Tony Funches was kind enough to write a foreword for the book, and the first blurb is in: "The Doors Examined is an astonishingly insightful page-turner. Jim Cherry deconstructs the story of The Doors, examining all facets from every angle, exploring their history and contextualizing their achievements. He not only takes the reader back to the sixties to understand the world in which they created, but also brings us up to the present day, showing their ongoing reverberations four decades after Jim Morrison checked out. This is a must-read for hardcores and newbies alike; maybe even for the doubters of a band that still compels people to choose sides." Directed by Robert Rodriguez. With Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Juliette Lewis, Quentin Tarantino. Two criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in an establishment populated by vampires, with chaotic results.
Acclaimed director Robert Rodriguez delivers more action-packed thrills with Roadracers, the story of a rockin' rebel named Dude (David Arquette), racing through life with a fast car, a loud guitar, a sexy girlfriend (Salma Hayek) and a big mouth. But when a confrontation ends with deadly threats...
At the launch. Quite impressed with their trio of ambassadors: director Robert Rodriguez, writer Neil Gaiman and singer Alicia Keys.
March 3rd: "Bigfoot." This was brought to my attention by Jason Hill. Please note that I said "brought to my attention" not "recommended by". The word "recommend" can never be used in association with this movie. SyFy presents. When you see those words at the beginning of a movie, turn it off. It boggles my mind that Robert Rodriguez can make "El Mariachi" for $7000 and have it be so good as to gross almost 300 times that, yet these movies get made with budgets that are probably more than $7000 and are such crap. I guess that's the difference in talent. This movie isn't so bad it's good, it's just so bad it's horrible. Bigfoot is about 30 or 50 feet tall (I'm not sure, but his size changes, so it doesn't matter), CGI, stomps around like a 2 year old with a full dirty diaper, and his favorite way to kill someone is to grab them and bite off their head which produces zero blood. The main "stars" are Danny Boneduce and Barry Williams, proving why they had trouble getting work after "The Partridge Family" and ...
So I wasn't there...but I feel like this is how it must have went down. Sometime in the early to mid 90s...Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are sitting around a table...discussing a movie they want to make together. They decide each one gets to direct one hour of the film. Tarantino takes the first half...decides to make a movie about this tandem of bandit brothers murdering their way through Texas in an attempt to secure passage to Mexico. Solid character development, an iconic standoff scene in a liquor store, Harvey Kietel as a priest that has lost his faith in the wake of the death of his wife...and George Clooney as truly the coolest you've ever seen George Clooney. Rob Rod then decides 'Cool story bro...my turn'...and then precedes to write an abortion of a film in which all of the sudden they end up in a bar of vampire prostitutes...Cheech Marin plays seventeen different characters...some dude has a gun where his junk should be...oh and lest we forget the band playing with an ensemble of inst ...

I'm one of those people who believes that most good music died around 1970. However, that was Mainstream Top 40, Radio music. THAT'S NOT ALL MUSIC. I knew that, and was exposed to so much good, new music duirng my time at Johnny D's. The fact is, there's ALWAYS lots of great music coming out, you just have to look for it. During the 80s and 90s, the music on the radio was horrible, but there was such good stuff going on under the radar - and I created my special lists for that time. It's my hope that if you lament the lack of good music today, you'll make an effort to at least investigate some of this awesome music. This is my list of indispensable music of the 90s: Little Isidore and the Inquisitors - Inquisition of Love Bruce Channel - Stand Up Joe Simon - This Story Must Be Told Arthur Alexander - Lonely Just Like Me Dan Penn - Do Right Man Etta James - Mystery Lady W.C. Clark - Lover's Plea Roscoe Shelton - She's the One Jamie Hartford - What About Yes Heather Myles - Highways and Honky Ton ...

Finally saw Django Unchained last night. What a huge disappointment. I know Tarantino is pals with Robert Rodriguez but did Quentin really have to make a 19th century version of the equally superficial Machete? I like Tarantino. I've got no axe to grind. And the first 30 minutes were fabulous. But it went off the rails when Django ditched the blue boy valet costume and went riding off in his new duds, with Jim Croce's insipid "I've Got a Name" playing in the BG. I thought it was a joke, and would screech to a halt like Jungle Boogie in Pulp Fiction. But no. We got the full dose, behind picturesque shots of mountains in the snow. Somewhere in movie land, Mister Pink and Mister Brown were laughing their *** off.
WOW!! Another great Pool Tournament,19 players and alot of fun.Jeff took 1st,Marquis Evans took 2nd and Pat Lloyd took 3rd.Deena Gaines and Brian had a great time,Brian's birthday.Sonnie Rodriguez is a new DAD so he had a ball,Nancy Thurston played in her 2nd tournament, did good,Had 2 Dawn Hammel and Dawn Sevenich played.Steve Johnson and Patrick Terry was a big help as always,ty.

Debating watching the Oscars tonight...since I already know the deserving films won't win or haven't been nominated.
Here's my Top 5 movies to see this year!!! 1. IRON MAN 3- Need I say more? Robert Downey Jr. is the one of the most talented actors! 2. Fast 6- Diesel,Rock,Walker,Rodriguez, and Tyrese + epic vehicular action! 3. G.I.Joe- Rock and Bruce Willis will prevail alongside my boy Snake Eyes! It will be Epic this time! 4.Thor 2- I loved the first one and Marvel knows what they are doing with there movies. 5 Man of Steel- I've never liked any Superman movie. They all sucked *** and I hope this one changes my perspective. I think my Top 5 is actually solid and almost "FAIL" proof.

A week from tonight: Robert Rodriguez joins us at our newest theater for a screening of El Mariachi -
Today I decided to revisit Sin City having only seen it a handful of times in the past. It's honestly one of the most underrated films I've ever come across. That's not to say it went completely under the radar (evidently it's a relatively well known film), I just rarely hear it talked about. Aesthetically it's unlike anything I've ever seen before: an interestingly explored mix of live action and stylised graphic. The dialogue and monologues in this film really stick with me and each story is as poignant as the last. It's very refreshing to see a film that just doesn't hold back. In terms of graphic novel adaptations it makes Watchmen look like a PG. If you're a fan of Film Noir or Tarantino I cant recommend it enough. And if you're wondering why it feels somewhat 'Tarantino-esk' that could well be down to the fact that he guest directed it (seriously, why isn't this film more talked about). I know there have been rumours floating around for a while that there may be a sequel some day. As much as I hate ...
When all is said and done I think Robert Rodriguez best film is Planet Terror. It has the perfect amount of fun and (yeah, actually) drama - but the later is very cleverly mixed into the splatter and gore. I still believe the whole hospital sequence is a nod to Umberto Lenzi's Nightmare City.

TEXANS ! This is important.a must read.the Castro brothers are NOT what we need in Texas Government or in the US Congress/Senate !!! Anyone following the radical teachings of Saul Alinsky as Obama does needs to be stopped quickly ! The Most Dangerous Liberals in Texas While many Texas conservatives continue to focus on national issues, the two most dangerous liberals in the state, U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro are laying the foundation to take over the state and to ascend to higher political office. Last Sunday, (January 27, 2013) the Castro brothers were interviewed on CBS Face the Nation and predicted to a national TV audience that within two presidential election cycles, Texas would be dominated by the Democrats. It's changing. It's going to become a 'purple state' then a 'blue state' because of the demographics, because of the population from folks coming from outside Texas, Julián Castro said. SO today is Oscars night - kind of my super bowl... so, it's MOVIE PREDICTION TIME! - okay, let's see... Best Movie?, it "should" be, "should" be - Zero Dark Thirty, but I don't know "Argo" caused a big upset at the Golden Globes... Best Actor - they pretty much have to give it to Lincoln, that's a lock. Best Actress, that chick from Zero Dark Thirty, I think she's the most desrving. Best Documentary - "Searching for sugar man". - By Far!. (you guys gotta check that out). Robert DeNiro will get an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, although that's more of a career recognition gesture, that's obviously not his strongest role ever. He should have like 4 oscars by now!... Best Director, Steven Spielberg, (even though I found Lincoln to be hella boring). And Anne Hathaway will win for Les Mis. But for my money, I will stick to my original story. The most "fun" movie of the year - was Killer Joe! okay, ready?, place your bets!

Bey tests positive for testosterone by Lem Satterfield Feb 20th, 2013 SHARE THIS STORY 7 Unbeaten lightweight prospect Mickey Bey, of Cleveland, has tested positive for high levels of testosterone in the wake of his third-round knockout of Robert Rodriguez on Feb. 2 at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, according to Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer. "He tested for elevated testosterone and a heavy testosterone ratio," said Kizer of Bey, a 29-year-old with a record of 19 -0-1 that includes 10 knockouts. "That indicates the use of synthetic testosterone, which is an anabolic agent. These are just allegations at this point, so a complaint has been served on him, and he'll have a full and fair opportunity to respond to the allegations." While Nevada's rules allow for a maximum testosterone to epitestosterone ratio of six-to-one, Bey's was greater than 30-to-one, according to Kizer. In March 2012, IBF junior welterweight beltholder Lamont Peterson failed a drug test that was contrac ...

For those people who post comments everyday wishing for the Three Percenters Clubs demise or for III%er's to just go away, like Mike Holland and Smiley Holland, well I have some bad news for you, WE'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!! You post comments saying that us (TPC) posting pictures of Waco and telling the people the truth about what happened is not helping the cause...exactly what cause is that because that last time I checked Three Percenters were not in the business of looking the other way when our government commits crimes against the American people. Like I stated before, I do not condone the actions of David Koresh but he was an American who was not a threat to anyone except those ATF agents who were serving an illegal search warrant. And yes, it was an illegal search warrant, the undercover ATF agent, Robert Rodriguez who gave information to the ATF testified that he had "not yet" gathered enough evidence for a warrant but his supervisors lied about evidence and pushed for a warrant anyway. It doesn't ...

Watched "Hitchcock" yesterday and it's all so ... blah! Hopkins is OK and Mirren is superb, and the film starts off being a lot of fun but it's padded out with stupid "fantasy" sequences involving Hitch and serial killer Ed Gein, and implies that if it wasn't for his wife the Master of Suspense wouldn't have even had a career (which is overstating it somewhat!). Anyway it's better than the BBC effort, "The Girl" (even though Toby Jones made a better Hitchcock), and was miles better than the Tarantino-Robert Rodriguez double bill of "Death Proof" and "Planet Terror" that I subjected myself to afterwards. Both of these were real turds!
Recently learned that in Europe, you can't name your kid anything that may give them trouble later in life. But this is Uhmurrica! some of the names I've heard (not in Hollywood) are Tylenol, Ima, Yura, and Wera (last name Hog), Thomas Thomas (Thomas is last name), Peter Pan, and here of course are the great names out of Hollywood: Audio Science: Shannyn Sossamon's son Kyd: David Duchovny and Tea Leoni (he's a boy) Jermajesty: Jermaine Jackson's son Pilot Inspektor: Jason Lee's son Sage Moonblood: Sylvester Stallone's son Blue Angel: The Edge's daughter Bluebell Madonna: Geri Halliwell's daughter Moxie Crimefighter: Penn Jillette's daughter Rocket: Robert Rodriguez's son

OK GIRLS I NEED SOME INPUT HERE. After watching Twilight with his sister, my bf, Robert Rodriguez asked me what all the hype was about twilight and cannot get past the part that Edward sparkled in the first movie. He said "real vampires don't sparkle". I tried to explain that it is the love story behind it. I told him that it is every girl's dream to have a man to be in love with her that much. Again, he couldn't get past the "sparkling" part. After watching Spiderman together, he brought up that Spiderman was a "love story" too, but he was more of a man. So, being my smartass self, also had to comment "we are talking about a mann that likes to wear tights and many of his moves are almost ballerina-like when he is flinging a SILKY web lol. So, my question is: IF YOU WANTED TO WATCH A LOVE STORY (between Spiderman and Twilight) WHICH WOULD IT BE? AND WHICH OF THE 3 MEN WOULD YOU WANT WOOING YOU?
Eva Green is the latest big name to join the cast, which already boasts high-profile new additions such as Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeremy Piven and Ray Liotta. Director Robert Rodriguez and Miller said in a statement: “We’ve been wanting to tell this story for a very long time. Ava Lord is one of the most deadly and fascinating residents of Sin City. “From the start, we knew that the actor would need to be able to embody the multifaceted characteristics of this femme fatale and we found that in Eva Green. We are ecstatic that Eva is joining us.”

Well, shoot me down for this lame long review status but Django Unchained resembled a 2.5 hour version of that joke Tarantino tells in Desperado: i.e. funny in places, arguably in need of an edit, assured style masking lack of actual narrative drive/intrigue, awesomely stylish but basically ... well a long joke. As a piece of cinema it's the same kind of entertainingly violent but substanceless pastiche Robert Rodriguez made with Machete, which is great, only with stranger pretentions of political point-making totally undercut by an obvious enjoyment and relish derived from all the gratuitous sexism/degradation (see slave boob, and strangely sexual hammer/skull power fetish), prevocatively-for-its-own-sake use of the N word (100 + times makes Spike Lee's coments about Tarantino's fixation seem well founded) and thuddingly long winded illustrations of the obvious, I.e. slavery is/was disgusting, and racism is bad, as bad as being pulled apart by dogs (which we're however invited to laugh at i think, amusin ...

A sequela de Sin City, A Dame to Kill For, parece que será em S3D. Curioso o desafio de Robert Rodriguez e Frank Miller: Rodriguez told Collider, “[Juno Temple] just shot…she was fantastic. She and Ray Liotta playted together, they were amazing…Jeremy Piven shot just last night. There are some characters from the book. It might surprise people who they plan and turns that they do. Bruce [Willis] is back…so you’ll be seeing him. We shot this in 3D. Because this is a very two-dimensional world, it’s very stylized. To see that kind of stylization in 3D will blow people’s mind.”

In 2007, a true gem of a film was released, entitled "Grindhouse". The film was a collaborative effort from directors Quintin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. The film was actually two films in one, one from each director. The Tarantino contribution to the film was an outstanding film called Death Proof, starring Kurt Russell. The Rodriguez contribution to the film was a film called Planet Terror, starring Rose McGowan. The movie was released with the title "Grindhouse", a label usually given to movie houses that specialize in B-Movies and exploitation films, which were often shown in multi-feature format. The film plays out like a typical showing at a grindhouse theatre, complete with movie trailers and advertisements. Two of the trailers, which included a faux-trailer for a Thanksgiving themed slasher flick called "Thanksgiving", a Hammer House of Horror themed flick called "Don't", a Rob Zombie Nazi flick called "Werewolf Women of the SS", and another Rodriguez trailer called "Machete", which in turn wa ...

A weird question: Does anyone know whether Michael J. Fox is a known comic book fan? In the commentary track for Spin City, he can't remember the name of Robert Rodriguez when talking about Carla Gugino's roles in Spy Kids and Sin City, but identifies Sin City as "that Frank Miller movie." Seems odd for somebody who's spent a lifetime in film.

Interview: Shane Carruth By Scott Tobias October 27, 2004 The greatest example of innovation on a tiny budget since Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi, Shane Carruth's Sundance-winning science-fiction thriller Primer was photographed in 16mm on a $7,000 budget, but the price barely hints at its resourcefulness and sophistication. A former math major turned engineer, Carruth taught himself how to make movies, and his homemade production rivals Vincent Gallo for above-the-line credits: He's the writer, producer, director, star, composer, editor, and co-cinematographer. After a long and mostly fruitless search for actors in his native Dallas, Carruth cast himself alongside sole professional David Sullivan. The two men play hardware engineers who create an astonishing device while working out of their garage. Though they quickly deduce that their invention, which ruptures the space-time continuum, would be too dangerous to bring to market, they take advantage of it themselves, but the potential consequences are i ...
Howard Berger/Robert Kurtzman/Gregory Nicotero (KNB Effects) Notable Credits: Evil Dead II, A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child, Army of Darkness, In the Mouth of Madness, From Dusk Till Dawn, Scream 1-3 Given that they co-founded KNB Efx Group together very early on in their careers, it’s tough to separate out the achievements of Gregory Nicotero, Howard Bergman, and Robert Kurtzman as individual craftsmen. While Kurtzman has since (circa 2002) left the studio to start his own production company, KNB has without a doubt become the most prolific and in-demand effects house in the modern movie industry. Favorites of a whole host of top-shelf filmmakers, including Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Sam Raimi, Eli Roth, George Romero, Frank Darabont, and Alex Aja, over the years the founders and their technicians have managed to create a wide variety of spectacular effects – from the hordes of the walking dead in Army of Darkness, to Drew Barrymore’s exposed intestines in Scream, to all those ...

Quentin is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer and actor. In the early 1990s, he began his career as an independent filmmaker with films employing nonlinear storylines and the aestheticization of violence. His films include Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), Jackie Brown (1997), Kill Bill (2003, 2004), Death Proof (2007), Inglourious Basterds (2009), and the upcoming feature Django Unchained (2012). He has earned an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA and the Palme d'Or, as well as Emmy and Grammy nominations. His movies are generally characterized by stylistic influences from grindhouse, kung fu, and spaghetti western films. Tarantino also frequently collaborates with his friend and fellow filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.
