"Cosmopolis" (2012) was interesting. It's Cronenberg's flawed attempt at an anti-capitalistic, Godardesque portrait of the bleak future of consumer-driven society. The comparison to Godard isn't unjustified. Like "Weekend" (1967), "Cosmopolis" centers around a character who is gradually driven to desolation by the self-destructive nature of capitalist society (in Cronenberg's and Godard's eyes, that is). David Cronenberg directs, and I'd become somewhat of a fan of his after watching "A History of Violence" (2005) and "Eastern Promises" (2007), both of which were genuinely good films. I saw that Robert Pattinson starred in "Cosmopolis", and it immediately dampened my expectations for the film somewhat, but interestingly, Pattinson wasn't the problem with the film -- Cronenberg was.
