Robert Allan Caro (born October 30, 1935) is an American journalist and author known for his celebrated biographies of United States political figures Robert Moses and Lyndon B. The Texas Hill Country is a vernacular term applied to a region of Central Texas featuring tall rugged hills consisting of thin layers of soil atop limestone or granite. 1.7/5

I appreciate Patrica Kilday Hart’s commentary in the Friday Chronicle: In his first volume on the life of Lyndon Baines Johnson, historian Robert Caro described in gritty detail the hard-scrabble lives of Hill Country farmers before rural electrification. As a champion of the Lower Colorado River Authority, LBJ secured federal money for dam and power-line projects that brought his constituents into the 20th century. For the first time, families could switch on a lamp to read at night. The story, Caro once told an interviewer, demonstrated “the power of government to change lives.” This week, former Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes lamented that Texas has turned into a solidly Republican state, in part because voters have forgotten “the Democratic history of Texas,” in which power-brokers like John-son harnessed government spending to create the modern infrastructure taken for granted today. Rice farmers in the Gulf Coast area are voting Republican, even though they owe their way of life to Johnson, he noted. ...

Hi, I am in a state of computer repair, so no pix till I get a new computer--I am sorry to have to give this one up, I have written three books on it including Sweet Judy Blue Eyes and have become very attached to it but it is shot--I will catch up with new photos soon--have a great Memorial Weekend, and read something wonderful--I am in the middle of Robert Caro's books on Lyndon Johnson--amazing--his new book Passage to Power, awesome-now going back to the Hill Country in Texas, and currently in Means of Ascent--how remarkable that so much that is going on--greed, manipulation, bribery, charm, power and the currying of the 99% were going on as long as we can remember--of course, I was deep in Frankly D Roosevelt in Path to Power, and what a relief that was!! and thank God for Roosevelt, our social programs were begun, and pray God will continue--have a safe Memorial Day, love, Judy
