The plot was often incoherent, at times to the point of silliness, but in this incoherence Zombie found a kind of nightmare logic that generated a few deeply creepy, unsettling scenes. I'm gonna sit through Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses again, just for kicks and giggles. I think I hated this film the first time that I saw it, and then the overall cheesiness sorta grew on me. It's pretty freaking bad, even for a retro-seventies, tongue-in-cheek, nudge-nudge-wink-wink homage. According to some, this thing qualifies as a cult classic. It's definitely a curiosity worth seeing.

What's your favorite horror movie theme/soundtrack? My favorite theme is the Halloween theme by John Carpenter. A friend and I used to drive down dark, wooded back roads while playing it to see if we could listen to the entire track without getting too freaked out...we never made it the whole way through without stopping it. Chicks can be such wimps. We always imagined someone or something jumping out of the woods at us. She'd always lock the car doors about 6 seconds in too like that would protect us somehow, it was hilarious. My favorite soundtrack, hands down, is Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects. I am very sad to say that my friend Bryan Carlstrom passed away Sunday. A lot of you musicians and engineers will know him for his amazing sound on recordings such as Alice In Chains "Dirt", Rob Zombie, The Offspring, Billy Idol, Anthrax, PiL, LA Philharmonic, CS&N, and much more. My best wishes to his family and friends, anyone who knew and loved the guy (which would basically be anybody who ever met the guy since he was a super sweet, nice guy, an engineer who would work as hard as anyone could ever humanly work on getting your sound as great as possible). He was a huge inspiration for me getting into recording engineering, and I will miss him greatly.

I met the band first and they were extraordinary, good, down home Austin folk as I am used to from the years I spent at U.T. Jeff the singer set down with me and shared with me their philosophies and I did the same. They all seemed to jibe well together as I knew they would. Onward skipping to the show now... It’s probably time turn in my metal head ID card. I don’t have the right to carry it. I was weeding my itunes of music I don’t want to hear again. Some were songs I’d learned as a goof so I could parody them with my band Le Strange, like I Kissed a Girl and Bad Romance for instance. Then I noticed how small my selection of metal had become. Some artists had been downgraded from several albums to just a few songs. Like Black Label Society. Down from four albums of gruff and guttural songs about suicide, murder, and slaughter, to a single song; Fire it Up. The warp speed millions of notes sound that I used to find so exciting annoys me now. Judas Priest greatest hits is still in there but most of the songs are unchecked. Ditto for Whitesnake. Sabbath 1-4 are still in play but only two Iron Maiden numbers remain. Rob Zombie gone, Poison, Ratt, both gone. So are Warrant, Skid Row, and Wasp. There’s one Yngwie Malmsteen album left in there, though its listed as “metal” its the one where he fron . ...

"Phantom: Love Never Dies" definitely has its ups and downs. Some of the songs are truly spectacular (and not just for those that love Webber), and the Coney Island freaks would be right at home in a Rob Zombie film. But the story... well... had good moments but overall was predictable and lacking. The book was definitely an afterthought; unfortunately. All in all... I enjoyed it for the fan-service and top-notch musical composition but if it didn't have ALW's name on it it never would've made it out of workshop.

My grade for Slither is a B+, really good horror comedy that pays homage to Troma and its founder Lloyd Kaufman. Quite funny at times with lots of goryscenes but surprisingly a very watchable film probably because of its stars: Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, Gregg Henry, Tania Saulnier and Michael Rooker. The film is also notable cause it features the voice of Rob Zombie as well. The film is not for the squeamish but enjoy if you dare to watch. Director/writer James Gunn is very creative and what he did with this movie is not only geniuslike but shows his respect for films of this genre which you don't always get these days.

Remaking a classic genre film is nothing new, and it's been done to varying degrees of success. There have been hits (Dawn of the Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and misses (Amityville Horror, The Omen), but one thing nearly everyone agreed on is that if you're going to remake a classic you have to make it your own. Had a great idea that I'll never do. Write a mini concept album about the zombie apocalypse on my Lindo Zombie guitar and perform it live dressed as a zombie with clips of zombie films on a screen behind me and all this while supporting Rob Zombie. So far I have a chorus for one song and an idea for a tune for one other song and that's probably as far as it'll go.

HALLOWEEN….My opinion is that this is actually a really good film - I loved it. However, it's not what it's viewers want from a movie that's titled "Halloween" and is classified as a slasher film. Let me explain why. Rob Zombie, as you all most likely know, is one of cinema's most eccentric director, and with "The Devil's Rejects" he show'd us what fun and how depraved psychos can be, but rather in (a surprising remake of John Carpenter and Debra Hill's 1978 chiller by the same name) this film he explored the character of the hunter and the hunted, although no development actually takes place; I'm glad that at least one slasher film does what it can in character exploration, and shows the struggle and hurt of the protagonist. With a interesting role for Malcolm McDowell-a good one at that- who plays Dr. Samuel Loomis, the character who tried to find the decency in the killer, a quest that was never completed, but instead, Myers got worse. They both could possibly even pass for being in in their early 20s. Danielle Harris has even played teenagers in the last five years in Rob Zombie's "Halloween" movies and in the awesome vampire film "Stakeland" ( presently playing on SyFy though it's about over) which seems to me to be an extended modern political riff on Richard Matheson's Vampire Classic "I Am Legend").
