The Riverside Church in the City of New York is an interdenominational American Baptist and United Church of Christ church in New York City, famous for its elaborate Neo-Gothic architecture and its history of social justice.
Hi all!! Here is the latest update from CR at Immanuel Church in Vero Beach. After the meeting at Riverside Church in Sebastian on New Year's Eve we welcome y'all to come to Immanuel for (and I'll let Roger take it from here): Hey just wanted to make everybody aware that we are doing a Clean and Sober New Years gathering - especially for our Celebrate Recovery ministry -- but is open to everyone. We will do it in THE SHED (youth building) 8 PM - 12 M - It is open to anyone who wants to come and just hang out and worship along the way. I will be coming out at midnight to lead in an observance of the Lord's Supper. Children are welcome to come. Just planting the thought now.
We don't understand the whole picture...an example using image again...A show like LA Preachers.bafoons. which we see it as one item. We don't realize that it reflects on people like Rev. Al Sharpton and the important work he and others do all over the world. MLK's image has been reduced to a dream. But at Riverside Church..that was not the issue. Unemployment and justice, and equality were the issues.
OK - these are my seven things: 1. I was born and went to elementary school in the Panama Canal Zone. 2. I have hitchhiked across the USA several times and Mexico once. 3. I have taken the train (Canadian Pacific) across Canada. 4. I saw MLK speak 2 times: in Washington DC for the "I Have a Dream" speech and at the Riverside Church in NYC. 5. While I was chasing the Beatles outside of the Plaza Hotel a NYC mounted policeman's horse pushed me over. My shoe came off and can be seen in some of the Beatlemania photos of their first American tour published in Life magazine. 6. I went to the March on Washington and the storming of the Pentagon in 1967 but I didn't really know what happened until I later read about it. 7. I am completely tone deaf although all of my children are musical.
Looking forward to Keltique concert tomorrow evening. Keltique will be joined by Tim Dickinson of Glyndebourne opera. Tickets can be purchased on the door at £5 and the concert is at Riverside Church, Looe, at 7.30pm.

We are back in the land of fun and sun! We were met by Joanna and Susan and then had a great visit with them once we were back home. Now we have unpacked all of the luggage, and most of it is put away. The rest I will put away tomorrow. We have a house full already.back to work.Kevin Oberg's container arrived during our absence and the yard is full of baggage from various missionaries and one family, with three kids, are here arranging for a large truck to come tonight and load most of it up to transport to Bobo. The kids are snacking on chips, and watching cartoons, and my brain is finally fading fast. Great to be home. I slept 4 hours in the last 31 hours. I guess I deserve to be tired.I don't think I will eat tonight...should but think I am just too tired. In Chicago we noticed the entire economy section was full, only one empty seat, also the entire business class was full too. But economy plus section was very sparse.John checked on the cost to bump up and it was very reasonable. In that section we . ...
The most important wedding of the year tomorrow. At three o'clock I'll be marching down the aisle of Riverside Church with my beautiful eldest daughter Kirsteen on my arm.My young brother Pipe Major Gordon Lawrie and organist Stewart Cook Will be playing Highland Cathedral in it's original form which was specifically written for Bagpipe and organ. All very nerve wracking for her Groom Gary MacPherson waiting at the alter filled with fear and trepidation. Nae wonder marrying into the Lawrie family. So I will welcome you now in case I forget to mention it later. Welcome Gary. Share
God is so AWESOME! and our Pastor's are so annointed to be able to be used by God and being able to be sensitive to the spirit, that they are able to preach just what the sheep need to here. We ask our Shepard's to tell us what to do, when we struggle with issues of life, depression, unforgiveness, loneliness etc. then when we are told what we need to do, we have the attitude that NO ONE is going to tell me what to do. Therefore if we can't do what we are told By our Shepards, (God's Word, Pastors, or whoever God has placed in our lives as a spiritual leader, then we are always going to have the same issues.Get the CD from tonight at Riverside Church!

Today in Christian History October 5 869-The Fourth Constantinople (8th Ecumenical) Council opened under Pope Adrian II in the West and Emperor Basil I in the East. During its six sessions, the council condemned iconoclasm. It was the last ecumenical council held in the East. 1744-Following his ordination, David Brainerd, 26, began three years of intense missionary labors among the Indians along the Susquehannah River in New Jersey. Increasing illness from the elements led to Brainerd's premature death, after only three years. 1833-Birth of William G. Tomer, American Civil War veteran and Methodist hymnwriter. If Americans *really* took to heart what MLK says in his Riverside Church speech, it would be very hard to look past & ignore our problems.
Dr King's Riverside Church Speech in 1967 was not necessarily a better or more important speech than I Have A Dream. It WAS more challenging

there's a reason why Dem partisans ignore Dr. King's Riverside Church speech
Riverside Church last night. Just because it's spectacular.
Simply because I believe in the principle Dr. King articulated in his too-often-ignored Riverside Church speech.
Because I agree with what Dr. King said in his Riverside Church speech:
Hostility by some to view civ rights as part of antiwar cause proves success of effort to erase Riverside Church speech from memory (2/2)
In Riverside Church speech, Dr. King implored America to see civil rights and antiwar movement as one cause: (1/2)

I would really recommend to anyone who reads this to take one Sunday out of your life and go see Pastor Chuck at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, in fact, I would recommend looking up his history in the ministry before you go just so you can truly appreciate what he has built through serving God, or what God has done through using him, whatever way you see it. The first time I saw Pastor Chuck, I was about 18 or so, then I started going to Greg Laurie on Monday nights to the Monday night youth service at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, that was before Greg started Harvest Church in Riverside, and I think he was just getting the Harvest Crusades going, anyways, I highly recommend you go sooner rather than later, he is getting up there in age. They are standing in the studio at KWAVE 107.9, if you ever want to be enlightened as to the reason things are going the way they are going in our country, just listen in to KWAV for a week or so, the lightbulb will go on and suddenly, you will feel like you know the guy behi ...

Grass causing havoc at junctions COUNCIL bosses have been accused of putting motorists in danger by neglecting to cut grass verges across the borough. Scores of residents have complained about visibility at junctions, with many questioning whether Redditch Borough Council had stopped mowing their land. Jeffrey Edwards, who sent the Standard this picture of his dog Isobel almost getting lost in the lengthy grass, likened it to a jungle and said he was 'sick of it'. The Warwick Highway island near Morrisons was named by many as among the worst, while other areas near to the Bromsgrove Highway, in Batchley and in Church Hill were also deemed to be too high. Katie Bishop said: "The big island by Morrisons is really bad as you can't see the other exits properly, it's an accident waiting to happen. The council needs to sort it out before someone gets hurt. Maggie Underwood added: "Morrisons is terrible, they have advert boards on there that companies have paid for. If they leave it much longer they will be want ...

Dear friends, Last night, I was up until 2am watching the feed from my friends in Texas as they lent their bodies and voices to support Senator Wendy Davis. I slept through my alarm. I woke up to a text from Goldberry and my dad, both sharing with me their joy at the SCOTUS decisions regarding Proposition 8 and DOMA. It’s a good way to wake up. Years ago, during the battle against Proposition 8, I posted this letter. now, almost five years later, Proposition 8 is dead. I went for a run this morning, a short one, to sort out m yfeelings. I realized that I had to write a follow-up letter. Proposition 8 is dead. Prop 8 says that people like me are not worthy of love. That we are inferior. The people of California said that I am not their equal. That what makes me human, my capacity to love, is less than that of my parents and straight friends. This inferiority they enshrined into the state constitution. When Prop 8 passed, I swept away the friends who supported it. Why be friends with someone who think ...

GE13: Far from the madding crowd...sada ati kami orang rumah panjai k diau d nengri ko jako... IT is easy to like Sunarti Atings from Lubok Antu. The 34-year-old mother of two is warm, chatty, and so refreshingly honest with her life story that you want to laugh, cry with her and hug her at the same time. When she was 18, she fell passionately in love with a 16-year-old “who hated school but was really smart”. They got married, had kids and for a short while they were a happy family. But, says Sunarti, her husband is the gatal sort and when she couldn’t stand his womanising ways anymore, she took the kids, left him, moved in with her dad and got a divorce. That was more than 10 years ago and Sunarti, who proudly declares herself a “pure Iban”, now works seven days a week (with only two days off a month) at a restaurant near her home. She earns RM400 a month and her father helps out by working at a petrol station. Theirs is a kais pagi makan pagi, kais petang makan petang subsistence where there ...

TAKING A CHANCE: I realize some YOUR TURN topics I post are going to spark intense discussion. I take a chance. Today was a textbook example regarding the ACLU suit to stop the display of crosses along the Evansville riverfront. I encourage an open forum here (I hope without obscenities and hate). At times some comments are deleted--that won't change. Friends, just let me say as a journalist I'll continue to post legitimate questions regarding major issues that impact our lives. If some individuals attempt to sabotage your right to conduct a civil conversation and they succeed--we're in trouble. I owe you to do my best not to let that happen. Your feedback is valued.

He is being cremated so there will not be a grave side service
Backstage photo of the day. I was in high school in 1964. Cliff side Park High School to be exact. That summer I believe was the maiden Macys Fourth of July Fire Works Show. I lived on Cliff Street. Aptly named because Cliffside Park was sitting atop the Palisades on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River. Opposite Riverside Church and Grants Tomb in Manhattan. ( yes, I know who's buried there!). We had all been to the Thanksgiving Day Parade and we were anxious to see what Macys had in store for the Fourth. The residents of Cliffside lighted upon the Palisades in droves. The part of town I grew up in was the "old part" of town, our perch was going east on Walker Street, one block south of Cliff Street to gorge road to the combination Cliffside Park Police pistol range and the town "dump". In between the two, separated by about twenty yards was a pass to the Palisades and the mighty Hudson below. We could see from almost the George Washington Bridge to the southern tip of Manhattan. Macys did not disappo ...

Welcome to the USSR (now defunct)!!! Two Evansville residents have now filed a lawsuit over the city's allow the placement of dozens of crosses along the riverfront. The crosses were scheduled to be there for 2 weeks from August 4 through August 18. The 30 crosses, standing between 6 and 8 feet tall, would have been decorated by children attending a Bible school camp, and then placed along Riverside Drive; between Court Street and Locust Street. Evansville Residents Chris Cabral and Nancy Tarsitano, with the help of the ACLU of Indiana, have requested an injunction, that would prohibit the city from displaying or allowing the crosses on public property. Mr Cabral works in the downtown area, and Ms. Tarsitano lives on Riverside drive. According to the lawsuit both "feel strongly that the City should not endorse or advance any religious viewpoint or religion in general." The cross project was initially put together by eight local churches, including the West Side Christian Church, Dove Chapel and the Cathe ...

Reading this morning from Psalms 82-86 Psalm 86:10-12 "For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. (11) Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. (12) I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore." How awesome is our God! So much so, that it is a never ending lesson for us to learn of His character, His ability, His love and mercy. The more we come to know of Him the more we stand in awe of Him. The closer we get to Him the more we realize how much more there is to learn of Him. That is why the psalmist says he will glorify the name of the Lord for evermore. It will take that long for us to examine and experience the awesome-ness of our Lord!
Looking at wedding venues online and seeing their prices is frustrating.
Top 10 Reasons Why Church Is the Best Place In the World, Besides the Obvious (Jesus) 10. POTLUCKS - Now my Dad would say, “I have no idea how that lady’s mashed potatoes were prepared” but I say, “What you don’t know can’t give you botulism.” Load me up, sister. 9. OLD PEOPLE - Old people forget stuff. Like your name. But they remember they had you in Sunday School in the 2nd grade. And they remember you only behaved when you were bribed with suckers. And they remember to ask you about your life. And they remember to listen. 8. YOUNG PEOPLE - Young people are great. But they are kind of loud. Being loud is their favorite thing. But they come up with creative ideas. Like “Pizza Church.” It’s kind of like Pizza Hut. They serve pizza, bread sticks, and God. They also deliver God right to your door. I think some people really like the idea of Pizza Church. I think some people think they actually go to a Pizza Church right now. 7. PASTOR JOKES - First, a good Pastor is lik ...

On June 9, 2013 Riverside Independent Baptist Church was severely damaged by an electrical fire. In April, our insurance coverage was dropped by the insurance company due to a problem with our roof. We are uninsured and have an estimate of close to $600,000 for repairs. We are currently planning all sorts of great fundraising opportunities including a 5k, concerts, a golf tournament, and much more. If you or someone you know would be interested in sponsorship or volunteering to help plan, please contact Joy Terhune at joy.terhuneAs always, support in the form of prayer is the most powerful we can receive!
This is the 2nd time i seen this guy walking down the street with a bible in his hand looking like he praying for every driver passing by. i just noticed he walks from muscoy. (highland & state) all the way to rialto. (riverside& baseline.) now thats a real man of god!! my blessings go out to him and his family. if u see him plz stop and pray with him or just hand him a water. it doesnt take a person to think hes all about god just bcuz he goes to church. but a real man of god will do what he is doing. and thats praying for every person he comes across. hes a standard size mexican or salvadorian. i am not sure but i have mad respect for the guy. and hes around his 40's or 50's. a TRUE WARRIOR OF GOD!

Food Truck Festival at the Riverside County Admin Building 4080 Lemon Street ~ Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 8am to 2 pm
Nice to see that the Chase Inn and the Baptist Church, both in Kirkintilloch are now together arranging a food bank for people in this once affluent area from going hungry having had their jobseekers benefits cut or stopped completely despite there being very few jobs for hundreds who are looking, and for people who are being asked to pay more rent for one spare bedroom when there are no smaller houses to move to. Well done Tom Friel, Lorraine Baxter Moir, Maureen Young and many, many other people. Shame on you Conservative Party, LibDems and the Labour Party who once stood up for the people of this country, but By Ed Millibands statement he said that his party could propose no better option and supported the measures yet 2 days later his party voted themselves a pay rise and a further £100 a week on top of their already inflated and unjustified expenses account. For those of a religious nature "you cannot love "god" and mamon (money)

I facilitated the Angel Signs Workshop at the Riverside Community Church in Oxford. Twenty-five people showed up on that gorgeous, sunny day. I was honestly not expecting many to want to leave their home activities on such a beautiful day, to sit in the church for the 2 hour workshop, but they surprised me! A HUGE thank you to all those who did attend, and stopped their fun-filled day, to join like-minded angel and spiritual seekers. The Reverend at the church had shared a "miracle" story which I would like to share with you. We had discussed Angel Guidance and Angel Intervention at Sunday's workshop, and this is a true story of Angel Intervention/Guidance! Recently, the Reverend at the Riverside Community Church was trying to figure out how to assemble a new chair she had purchased for her office (since her old one broke). The chair had arrived in a box in many pieces. She was struggling not knowing which piece went where, and it got to the point where she was hoping someone would come and help her. ...

Riverside Team They begin their Journey Back Home Tonight *Long drive to the Comoe Region (south Burkina) included, bush potty stops, picnic lunch on the side of the road, and a herd of wild elephants crossing the road *In the Comoe Region: open air evangelism services, a Dogose' baptism in a lake, hard work putting up a metal hangar for a new church building, a well dedication service where the team were presented with an ill tempered sheep (who was delicious), a soccer game before the village with some of the youth of the local church, handing out dum dum suckers, extremely rustic bathrooms for 3 days, bucket baths in a three sided mud brick enclosure with no roof (a bit awkward), meals in the village sitting on benches with benches pushed together to make tables, and washing your hands in a bucket passed around the group, one group saw wild red monkeys in the trees, and then the long drive home Yako: Drive to the orphanage and then the team were beasts when we arrived. They assembled portable scaffoldi ...

On time today to church, Mom, still at Reondo Beach, Ca. I'm trying to convince her to let me go bring her back to Riverside. She is refusing. That house is very badly coming apart, since no one has lived in it since 8 months ago.Bad pluming, garbage disposal not working, cieling badly drips into her dinning room, floor swollen from water, termites badly on all the wood, shower not working. she's without a car. Her son Augie just left on vacation for 2 or three weeks, when he's the only one dropping in on her every day. He should've let me know. Should I just go get her even though she refuses to come back with her daughter??? worried about my Mother!!

It is because people do not realize that interpretation must necessarily come before application that many folks come up with the unfortunate dichotomy between what is theological and what (as they say) is practical. But tell me, are we not the sum total of our convictions (whatever they are)? So then, there is NO way to get to practise without going through theology (whether it is good or bad theology) It is incredible how terribly lacking in Bible study skills we are in Nigeria, even the pastors are terrible bible students. First, very few bother to interpret scriptures, then of those who do, most use a man-centered interpretative grid. Isn't it self-evident that since the Bible was written at a specific time period, to specific persons and within specific cultural contexts, that the first thing we need to do is identify the gaps that we must necessarily bridge to understand exactly what the text means? We must endeavour to know, as accurately as possible, what those who were the first recipients of the ...

For those of you who can't make it to church, here is our churches web address where you can watch from home from a live feed. The Lord is doing some amazing things with this church here in Riverside and around the world. Type in your address bar "live.sandalschurch.com" without the www. It will bring up at least 4 different times it will be showing today, this evening and every Sunday. It's very... convenient when you're sick. We stayed and watched from home this mornin'. Here’s a brief outline I took notes on from this morn. We’re in the book of "1 Peter". God hates sin because of what it does to us. The world says we have these desires so that we can fulfill them. The bible, God says if we fulfill them, it will ultimately destroy us. God’s ways are not our ways, He thinks differently than us. He gives us guidance because He knows what’s best for us, not to punish us but to see us have true joy and not to be captive to our flesh. God loves us, that’s why He wants us to live our lives for Him a ...

I have been reading the Bible since I was 7 years-old...it started with the Book of Revelation. I didn't really start reading any of the rest of it until I was not quite twenty-five years old. Now, I have yet to read the whole of the Scriptures...I have not yet read the Bible clear through; maybe some of you have. Therefore I'd like to ask a question of some who might be more well-versed than I: What does, in fact, the Bible say, about me going down to Riverside Church here in Peoria and taking that Jaguar drivin' church face preacher out back and doin' his *** some real serious hurt?

This is going to be a tough ride into NYC. My Mom called me with the details for Florenciana Martinez's (Sinai's Mother) wake: This Friday at Church of the Holy Name of Jesus on 96th and Amsterdam from 3-6pm. In case anyone wishes to attend. I was as shocked as my Mother. They became friends way back when. They took their kids to the same Headstart (Goddard Riverside), the same medical facility (Ryan Center) and worked in the same neighborhood on the Upper West Side. It was only about a year ago that I saw her in the store she managed and I still have that memory very clearly for some reason. May you rest in peace.
Off to night night land I go. Had a wonderful time tonight with the kids and adults at Riverside Church Wacky Week RK Bootcamp. Looking forward to the next 2 nights!

The church Jesus is building often meets on Sundays, but it can also meet any other time too. They can gather in a church building, a tent or along a riverside. The key is that they don't come together to meet each other only. Their meeting is for the Body to meet with Jesus.
"Don't believe everything you hear. Real eyes realize real lies." -Tupac Shakur Assata Shakur is now a Muslim. Well, she didn't actually convert to Islam. But in the eyes of the United States government where "terrorism" and threats to the state have become synonymous with Islam and Muslims, the recent placement of Assata Shakur on the FBI's "Most Wanted Terrorist List", has for all intents and purposes, made her one. While her being named to the list shocked many, is it really that surprising, especially when one considers how the "war on terror" has been used as a logic of control to systematically target, undermine and destroy any challenge to the domestic and global realms of US power? Welcome to the Terrordome Recently while in New York, I was on a panel at the Riverside Church that explored the links between the "war on crime" and the "war on terror". I joined an incredible group of mostly black and Muslim activists, individuals (including Yusef Salaam, one of the "Central Park Five"), and family me ...
And: i know this is preaching to the choir but: here's the rub: his city is being torn apart by: bad flood protection. Bad infestructure. Black outs. Hurricanes. Low Literacy rate. Gangs who deal heroin and have shoot outs in public where dozens are injured and killed. And these people literally want a new city office. With a FULL time STAFF. Paid for by your tax payer money. And this office's ONLY job will be regulating how much noise some old blind guy playing a trumpet at a little corner bar playing traditional jazz is making. And they eant our understaffed, Under PAID, police force to spend thier time checking noise levels outside of these bars and checking if everyone's entertainment liscence is up to date. Time they could use maybe say, arresting HEROIN Dealers or investegation one of the HUNDREDS of unsolved murders here in our city.

Our kids were loud and obnoxious at 5 pm mass tonight. Luckily we went to church in Downers Grove instead of Riverside tonight. We take bad behavior on the road. My mom said she prayed that I married a Catholic woman. She got what she wanted, but tonight wasn't as idealistic as I think she imagined. Sorry, Mom. We went to heathen mass with two little devils.

you should'nt be stupid enough to practice the same religion that was used to enslave your people. Because, as everyone should know, the main reason used by the enslavers was that blacks "were not Christian" and therefore deserved to be enslaved.

Rev. Dr.MLK's "Riverside Church" speech is a great place to look for inspiration on this.
"When the church preaches the gospel as the power of God, as spiritual dynamic that can operate in men and change them, it is THEN that she deals with the social problem; not when she is talking about the social problem, and giving statistics and making moral appeals. That is a waste of time, and we must reject it as a temptation from the devil! I do not hesitate to say so. The devil is perfectly satisfied as long as the church is just reading, Sunday by Sunday, little moral essays, trying to give a little moral uplift, and making an appeal to people to be decent. I am certain that at such times the devil rejoices, because he knows that his kingdom will not be affected." Martyn Lloyd-Jones (Ephesians - Darkness And Light) Via Riverside Church
Special thank you to my Mom, brother Larry, Terri L. Marshall, Leslie Faison, Kara Winslow, C.Anthony Owens, Michele Pinder Moorman, Inshallah Saunders, Carol Crossdale and Gretchen Young for sharing in my special day by attending One Spirit's commencement ceremony yesterday. Their presence symbolized the MANY MANY MANY family, friends, coworkers, sorors, class mates, Landmark grads and communities that have contributed their "mini stories" to the ministry of my life. The generosity, courage and vulnerability with which you've shared your truths, challenges, joys, trials, growth, failures, triumphs, struggles and successes have been the altars upon which I've altered who I am and Whose I Am. It was my pleasure, delight and privilege to stand at the altar in historical Riverside Church representing and adding your history to theirs. My accomplishment is YOUR accomplishment and I vow to honor it with all of who I am, what I am and why I am. So I Am the We Are and So It Is. With gratitude and love, Reverend ...

Photos and updated schedule long overdue... That's what having a daughter about to graduate from high school does to a Mom! I've also been busy with custom tours, including a wonderful tour on Sunday for members of my class at Barnard, which had its reunion this past weekend. We met at Grant's Tomb and started the tour with chocolate hearts from Mondel's Chocolates, a famous shop near Columbia that we all frequented from time to time... it's closed on Sundays so I bought them just before the class dinner on Friday evening. We mosed through beautiful Sakura Park in front of International House, opposite Riverside Church and down to Claremont Avenue, eventually turning onto tiny LaSalle Street, which has a lovely Italian bistro (Pisticci) and coffee shop next door. On Brodway north of LaSalle is a mini restaurant row, with Mexican, Italian, Middle Eastern, Japanese and more... We went to Falafel on Broadway for appetizing plates and then to Oasis Jinma for smoothies. The owners are Ethiopian. From there we ...
