In December 1969, George Harrison performed with Delaney & Bonnie & Friends in the UK. On 1 December 1969, he watched Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett perform at the Albert Hall in London and joined them the following night on stage in Bristol. It was the first time he'd played in a concert venue since The Beatles' final concert on 29 August 1966. The tour consisted of dates in Birmingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, Liverpool and Croydon, although George was unable to perform at the show in Newcastle due to his Mother's illness. Footage is rare, but shows were recorded and released in 1970 on "Delaney & Bonnie & Friends On Tour With Eric Clapton." George Harrison was credited as "L'Angelo Misterioso." The "Friends" included Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlock, Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge, Dave Mason, Jim Price and the legendary Bobby Keys, who also played on All Things Must Pass and countless legendary recordings. RIP Bobby Keys - 18 December 1943 - 2 December 2014. Namaste; Nance ॐ
Claudia Lennear.Brown Sugar Claudia Lennear has worked with many acts including Ike and Tina Turner, Humble Pie and Joe Cocker. She was part of a trio of backup singers for Delaney and Bonnie, that also included Rita Coolidge. Lennear's meetings with *** Jagger and David Bowie are often cited as inspiration for The Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar" (1971) and Bowie's "Lady Grinning Soul" (1973). NME editors Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray noted in 1981 that she was "yet to reply in song to either *** or David". However, in a 1973 article in Rolling Stone, she was quoted as saying that she wrote the song "Not At All" "to inform *** Jagger of his dispensability". Claudia Lennear was one of Leon Russell's Shelter People. She sang back-up vocals on Joe Cocker's 1970 Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and live album, on Leon Russell and the Shelter People, released in 1971 and on George Harrison's The Concert for Bangla Desh. In 1973, Lennear recorded a solo album of her own (her one and only) entitled Phew! Lennea .. ...
Chuck adding a harmony to Joe Cocker with Leon Russell on guitar and accompanying background vocal with Rita Coolidge. Welcome listeners from Canada, Germany...
Fair warning - feeling good enough to listen to music in the evening now, albeit not that much but enough to burden ya - and you thought you were safe! HA I remember this album - the cover opened up three times it's closed length, the vinyl was multi-colored - which was a first for the 60s. Released just after Traffic disbanded. The cast of players includes: Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear, and Delaney & Bonnie on vocals. Jim Capaldi (Traffic) on drums, Leon Russel keyboards. Mason on guitar obviously, joined by (among others) Chris Ethridge (ISB & Flying Burrito Brothers).
Just a note about what to expect in the coming year. Last year on Tuesday's Desolation Angel Radio held what was basically a Master's class in the history of the blues - going back to Robert Johnson, Son House, Leadbelly and other pioneers, moving up through Junior Kimbrough, Elmore James, Guitar Slim and on up to Buddy Guy, Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker and modern 2012 artists and tying it together, all those are still available in the archive library. This year, on Tuesday's, we're going to look at another arc just as vital, going back to the cosmic cowboys and outlaws of the '70's. Everyone knows about Waylon, Willie, Johnny and Kris, and they'll be well represented, always, but we'll also spend those shows this year looking at folks like Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, Townes Van Zandt, Mickey Newbury, Gram Parsons, Steve Young, BW Stevenson, Larry Jon Wilson, Gamble Rogers, Mac Mcanally, Steve Earle, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Robert Earl Keen, Rodney Crowell, Leon Russell, Delaney Bramlett, Rita Coolidge, Jes ...

I just read in the Miami Herald that Joe Cocker is playing the Hard Rock tonight and tomorrow night. In case you were thinking of going here is a review of his performance which I saw this summer in LA. Joe Cocker Joe Cocker has lost it. The decades of drinking, drug abuse and smoking have destroyed his once iconic voice. Tonight I went to a double feature at The Greek Theater in LA of Huey Lewis and the News, and Joe Cocker. Huey opened the show and was as expected. He is not a favorite of mine. I went to hear Joe Cocker. The Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour was the best rock concert I have ever attended. I still listen to the live album. Leon Russell produced and co-starred along with Rita Coolidge and other ladies doing backup. But as soon as Joe opened his mouth tonight it was obvious he had lost his voice. He never had a great tone but I loved his voice. He had a gritty edge to his voice that was never harmonious but was captivating. Who can forget him singing “You are so Beautiful.” He still does th ...

an excerpt from wikipedia and a couple of songs."Delaney & Bonnie – in ensemble called Delaney & Bonnie & Friends – was a rock/soul revue fronted by husband-and-wife singer/songwriters Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett. The pair's "Delaney & Bonnie & Friends" incarnation was particularly influential, drawing in and in many cases helping shape the direction of such musical luminaries as Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, George Harrison, Leon Russell, Dave Mason, Rita Coolidge, and King Curtis."
