INA SAKANIN KU BANDA MARI ! Nigeria's suspended Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido, accused by President Goodluck Jonathan of wasting public funds on unapproved projects, has provided details of how the president himself personally authorized some of those spending, one of them a multibillion naira purchase of helicopters for the police, and another, a N2.1 billion renovation of the cabinet meeting room in the Presidential Villa. Mr. Sanusi said the police project, which also involved buying other security equipment, cost N19.7 billion, and that it was carried out "upon the instruction" of President Jonathan. The president, he said, also requested that the CBN pay N3.2 billion for the construction of a new counter terrorism centre for the office of the National Security Adviser, alongside other projects. "Consistent with our policy of development, upon the instruction of His Excellency, the President, the CBN intervened by paying N19.7 Billion to the Ministry of Police Affairs for the purchase of armour ...

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, argued that the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court lacks the jurisdiction to preside over a suit seeking to overturn the suspension of governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. Jonathan, through his counsels had argued that Sanusi should have filed the suit at the National Industrial Court, instead of the Federal High Court. 3. Despite Bayelsa state government’s claim that it did not mandate one, Mr. George Uboh to file a suit against the EFCC over the recovered loot of former Bayelsa state Governor, Diepreye Al ...
REUBEN ABATI - If he were to still be an editor in his former work place, I imagine how he would 've taken on the Jonathan led Fed. Govt. on the NIS Job seekers sad story. The gross inability to organise and execute. The robbery of N1000 from over a million youth (over N1billion). The death of over 19 job applicants + several injured and still purpotedly receiving "generous" treatment courtesy of the FG. The comments of the Minister of Interior Affairs. The unreasonable response of his boss Just wondering what the 'spokesperson of the president' would 've said or written. Hmm! How time and people change.
The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi yesterday responded to the allegations of financial recklessness filed against him by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) which led to his suspension last month. Last week, presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati challenged Sanusi to respond to the allegations and stop playing the victim. In a 28-page reply emailed to Daily Trust yesterday, Sanusi said the response was necessary to clarify the allegations against the CBN cited as the reasons for his suspension from office with effect from 19th of February 2014. Sanusi gave detailed explanation on the issues raised by the council and attached evidences on each allegation against him. The response tilted: ‘Memorandum Responding to The FRCN Allegations,” Sanusi said some of the monies alleged to have been spent recklessly were paid on the instruction of the President Goodluck Jonathan. For instance, on the intervention projects which were regarded as unlawfu ...
President Goodluck Jonathan will this evening host a televised live media chat with some Nigerian journalists during which he is expected to respond to questions on a number of topical national issues. Mr. Jonathan’s spokesperson, Reuben Abati, said in a statement that the Presidential Media Chat, to be aired live on major television and radio stations in the country, would begin at 7 p.m. The presidency has in the past promised to entertain questions by telephone calls, sms, and via social media. about 3 weeks ago
National News Thursday, March 20, 2014 1. Jonathan Cancels Fatal Recruitment Exercise • Grants job concessions to families of deceased, injured victims • Sets up special committee to conduct fresh employment • NIS board blames minister for tragedy President Goodluck Jonathan has cancelled last Saturday’s recruitment by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), which turned tragic when over 16 job seekers died in stampedes at various centres nationwide. He directed the conduct of a fresh employment process that will be supervised by a special committee headed by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Mrs. Joan Ayo, to fill the vacancies in the NIS. Also, in a bid to appease the families of the deceased applicants and those injured during the exercise, the president has ordered that they should be given preferential treatment in the recruitment process. Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, told State House reporters yesterday in Abuja after the weekly meeting of the Federa ...
What happened on Saturday was a national tragedy and I pray for The Lord to console the families of the departed ones. The incident could only happen in a country like Nigeria or how would you explain that. Those who organised the recruitment were inhuman and should not remain in their posts any longer. People are unemployed and you are asking them to pay 1000 Naira, to steal or beg? Who suggested this? Who are the people who agreed to the suggestion. The people must be hanged, they are not good for our society or any society at all. It is only in Nigeria that such a Minister will remain in post and not resign. It is not enough for the President to hive a warning. In an ideal world or a disciplined society that is not corrupt the incident was a gross misconduct. The automatic penalty should be at least a sack if the Minister has no shame to resign honourably. What am I saying is there any thing honourable in our society? I wonder what Dr Abati would have written in his Guardian news paper column but he is ...
The Sunday Sting, Abuja Reno Omokri, the under fire presidential spokesperson, has accused his village witches of being behind his recent travails. The outspoken presidential aide, who was recently accused of attempting to spread false story about the suspended Central Bank Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi using a fake ID, insisted he was not to blame for the lapse in judgement. Omokri explained the situation on NTA’s AM Express this morning: ‘Let us be clear, I did not really attempt to link Mallam Sanusi with Boko Haram. What happened was that a draft of a short story I was working on was sent out prematurely. My assistant was hypnotized by these wicked witches to send it out before we could properly mask our signature on the document. I repeat, what you guys saw on the internet was a short fiction I was working on, and that name, Wendell Simlin, is my pen name for fiction writing.’ ‘It was all the doing of the witches who have been working against me all along. They didn’t want me to suc ...

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday relieved the Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, of his appointment. Indication that Jonathan might have sacked Abdullahi first emerged when the President was assigning portfolios to the 11 new ministers who took their oath of office at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting. Jonathan shocked those in attendance who thought the new ministers would be assigned to only ministries without ministers when he announced that the new Rivers State nominee in the cabinet, Dr. Tamuno Danagogo, would take over from Abdullahi. While reeling out the names of the remaining new ministers with their portfolios amidst anxiety among cabinet members, the President kept mum on Abdullahi’s fate. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, later confirmed Abdullahi’s sacking to State House correspondents. Abati did not however give reason for the sacking. .. ...

Badeh is CDS, Jibrin heads Navy, Amosu heads Air Force President Goodluck Jonathan has replaced all the military chiefs in sweeping changes at the top of the Nigerian armed forces announced yesterday. He named Air Marshal Alex Badeh as Chief of Defence Staff after removing Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim from the post. Major-General Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah has, as predicted by Daily Trust, replaced Lieutenant-General Azubike O. Ihejirika as Chief of Army Staff. Daily Trust exclusively reported in January last year that Major-General Minimah was being groomed for that post (see the full story reproduced on this page). Further details on the changes show that Rear Admiral Usman O. Jibrin has replaced Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba as Chief of Naval Staff while Air Vice Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu takes over from Air Marshal Badeh as Chief of Air Staff. A statement from presidential spokesman Reuben Abati said the president had already briefed the leadership of the National Assembly on the new appointmen ...

Beyond Jonathan’s Sacking Jamboree George Agba — February 19, 2014 The recent wave of sack of aides by President Goodluck Jonathan is generating controversy, with critics suggesting that it could as well be another manoeuvre by a Nigerian leader, GEORGE AGBA reports. Right from the very day President Goodluck Jonathan bowed to pressure and sacked her Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Uduah along four others, stories of the motive behind the spate of sacks have been the dominant themes in Nigeria’s public space. To borrow a leaf from presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, the cynics and pestle-wielding critics have moved to another line of criticism. Rather than simmer down the situation, explanation by Information Minister, Mr. Labaran Maku that the “ministers had been asked to step out of the Federal Executive Council to further their own interest” elicited a hurricane of gossips and allusions. The president by now would be wondering what really Nigerians want. Aware that Oduah’s conti ...

Oghiadhome’s kinsmen celebrate his removal from office... Report has it that there was jubilation on Tuesday in Fugar, Edo State, country home of President Goodluck Jonathan’s former Chief of Staff, Mike Oghiadhome over his removal from office. Kinsmen of the former CoS, including market women, who had accused him of abandoning his people, were said to have sang and danced round the community as news of Oghiadhome’s exit from office became known. Though, a communique by Jonathan’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, on Monday said Oghiadhome voluntarily resigned to pursue his political ambition, his kinsmen have continued to insist that he was sacked from office. One of Oghiadhome’s kinsmen told newsmen that, “We were happy when we heard the news. Of what relevance is Oghiadomhe to Fugar people that he has neglected? Rather, he used his position to oppress and intimidate our poor people. “Look at what the late (Mike) Akhigbe did for us, but sadly he (Oghiadomhe) preferred to keep enmity with him (Akhig ...
Why Jonathan’s Chief of Staff, Oghiadomhe, Resigned- Thisday •President shops for replacement After years of ignoring the advice of those who had counselled against the retention of Chief Mike Oghiadomhe as his Chief of Staff, President Goodluck Jonathan, Monday, finally relieved him of his post. THISDAY learnt from presidency sources that in order to give him a soft landing, Jonathan asked Oghiadomhe to resign. His resignation was confirmed by the president’s Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, who said there was “nothing extensive to add other than to confirm that the chief of staff has resigned his appointment” and it had nothing to do with a speculative report published by an online news medium linking him to the allegation on the non-repatriation of oil revenue to the Federation Account by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). However, sources informed THISDAY that by asking Oghiadomhe to resign, Jonathan had finally bowed to pressure to replace the former ...
Reasons Nigerians Should Vote Out Jonathan ––Fani-Kayode Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has been in the eye of the storm since the deportation of some Igbo from Lagos to Anambra State. The former Minister of Aviation has been critical of the Goodluck Jonathan administration which, he said, has performed abysmally. In this first part of the explosive interview, Fani-Kayode speaks on his trial, Olusegun Obasanjo administration, 2015 elections and other salient issues. Excerpts: How is life out of government and what are those things you are actually missing? I do not miss being out of government. I have served my country for four years at the highest level and it is good enough. Recently, the President’s spokesman described some of you that worked with the Obasanjo administration who are critical of the Goodluck Jonathan administration as yesterday’s men. Do you see yourself as a man of yesterday? The essay was written by my friend and brother, Dr. Reuben Abati, who is President Jonathan’s spokesman. I res ...
My Dear Chief Anenih . LEADERSHIP NEWSPAPER BACKPAGE The world is expecting me to respond today to the letter you wrote me, so I will go straight to the point. Your letter to me, sir, was a little strange because I can’t see what you intend to achieve. But, as my Esan friend recently told me, there is a saying in your place that “when a bird suddenly begins dancing on top of the tree, then there is music under the ground”. As the Iyasele of Esanland, you must be well familiar with that adage. But even with the music playing from Aso Rock, you should not have allowed yourself to write that kind of letter. The letter greatly diminished you, sir, and you must have already realised that from the kind of comments about you all over the social media since your letter was released. If the responses in the social media do not mean anything to you, surely, they will to your children and grandchildren. That is the stuff Nigerians have come to expect from Ahmed Gulak, Doyin Okupe and Reuben Abati, and, honestl ...

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked his military high command, his spokesman Reuben Abati has said.
Aso Rock is presently under serious heat and it is as a result of the revelation of this Kenyan woman that a lot is going on with Nigeria's money that we Nigerians are not even aware of. Hear what she said below: "Your president (Goodluck Jonathan) visited my country with seven private jets and that's never happened before... This is Nigeria. It's the country with the largest private jets. Seven private jets only. I know there must be more but for us still that was wow. Everybody came in their own jets." Reuben Abati is claiming that all the 7 jets that landed on the said day in Kenya are not people in Jonathan's entourage, but Nigerians know that there are 10 jets in the Presidential Fleet and Jonathan is even trying to buy an additional one for over N1.5billion in 2014. When will people like Reuben Abati working in the Presidency learn to say the truth as it is? help us

A GOVERNMENT SO CONFUSED! I wonder when this government and the empty heads heading it affairs will start thinking straight. In one place Reuben Abati is busy trying to introduce religious politics as their campaign strategy against the majority party The APC instead of addressing the numerous challenging issues facing their government/our country and on the other hand his Principal is asking the CBN governor to resign for his patriotic zeal of telling the him(Jonathan) of how our 8trillion naira was stole. Somewhere outside the country a minister's fake certificate is confirmed. Pls look at these three issues out of the numerous of course, I will leave the 1st one to Lai Mohammad of APC cos I am sure he is going to justice to it. What is Reuben Abati willing to achieve by labeling APC a muslim party?

"APC is a Muslim party."~Reuben Abati (presidential spokesman). Why is this people playing an ethnic and religious card for political survival? The attempt by the PDP to forment religious disharmony among Nigerians is unpatriotic, evil and beyond acceptable political rhetoric.. ..APC WILL ISLAMISE NIGERIA-Reuben Abati _Playing RELIGION card is the only channel of masking the obvious failures and miseries, created by this incompetent and selfish fraternity..The sympathy of hearts and minds is being lost on daily basis, despite aggressive vuvuzela of non-existent performance..The objective of this monster is to muster much more willing and gullible minds in to its fold before 2015;that has been the game since 2003 through to 2011..The victim has always been Gen. Buhari. It is crystal clear that massive dissatisfactions from all over, and the subsequent swimming to safety from this wrecked ship called PDP is sending chills down the spine of the remnants, and the only hope from a hopeless situation is to play the RELIGION game. This is no different from what happened in the past;it started in 2003,and since then the tricks has not change;2015 will be another election year. The idea was to up the ante in early 2014 in preparation for 2015;compounding the volatility, using religion and ethnic ...

Ekiti 2014: Jonathan and my home state – An open letter to the president from Alofe Sunday (Culled from The Dailypost) Mr. President, At this time when everyone is writing you a letter, mine is not to hop on the bandwagon, especially as it relates not with your 2015 ambition. But it would do Nigeria, that is if you really care about her well-being, a whole world of good if you could find time out of your busy schedule to peruse this letter by yourself. Handing this letter to Reuben Abati, Doyin Okupe or Labaran Maku would be tantamount to handing over the Bible to Satan to preach from it. Your Excellency, bearing in mind your busy schedule, I’m going to be brief. The purpose of my letter relates with my home state, Ekiti. In late 2012, I saw something that scared me to the bone. I was lying on my bed, not sleeping when I saw in a trance revolution written as “reVOLUTION”. I sought to know the meaning and the interpretation of all respected men of God consulted tallied. Something is certain though, the likes of Reuben Abati,Ahmed Gulak,Doyin Okupe, and most especially Asari Dokunbo and Edwin Clark et al are only doing damages to whatever remains the sympathy the public have for Jonathan. I wonder if the South-south region or these fools can help Jonathan realise his ambition in 2015 all alone.
I hope Jonathan will not wake up one morning to discover that Madam Peace (Patience Jonathan) has defected to the All Progressives Congress and Reuben Abati and Doyin Okupe abandoned their duty posts to seek political asylum overseas.

Reuben Abati doing what he knows best. Hear him: “Nigerians are concerned about corruption. [President Jonathan] too is concerned about corruption.” Abati also accused the media of showing support for the opposition, thereby, discarding objective journalism. “The media as we have it in Nigeria today is heavily in the hands of the opposition. Whatever the President says, they twist it,” he said. He also praised Jonathan as the only president that has given Nigerians a road map. “What he (President Jonathan) has been able to do is historic. We have never had a president in Nigeria that presented Nigeria with a road map,” he said. *Well, I hope the media are not twisting his remarks on this one too. But what exactly is this ROAD MAP leading us to actually?*

Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi; a former Osun State Governor and Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Bisi Akande; and a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, have accused President Goodluck Jonathan of being after their lives. According to Sunday Punch, in separate interviews they accused the President of having their names on a sniper list. El-Rufai had on Thursday named the top politicians as some of the persons on President Jonathan’s watch list. When our correspondents sought their reactions, on Saturday, they agreed with the FCT minister, saying they were targets for being in the opposition to the ruling government. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had in an 18-page letter to Jonathan, dated December 2, 2013, accused the President of trai ...
This is Reuben Abati of those days. The days of political opposition and struggle for good governance. The days when govt are BAD. The days he condemn deregulation strongly. Coming to Abati of today, a man who now believe govt policies are the best. He now attack his fellow comrades who criticise GEJ's administration. He now sees nothing wrong anymore. Its a pity he can't hold back his integrity, honesty and stand.
Just listened to Reuben Abati on Channels TV as he was shamelessly defending the crippled GEJ govt. I was so ashamed that this was the same man I didn't miss his columns on Fridays and Sundays for years in The Guardian. His incisive and objective criticisms adhered him to me but today he's now lost. So sad.
Watching Reuben Abati on Channels TV politics today l laughed and am still laughing. Ђoώ can the spoke person O̶̷̩̥̊͡f No1 person O̶̷̩̥̊͡f Nigeria βε̲̣ talking like this. The Abati l know has really changed. Hmh. I† Į̸̸̨§ obvious that this govt has exhausted all they have. Na wa oh. I still dey laugh.
I remember years back, i used to read Reuben Abati column in the Guardian Newspaper. But watching him speak tonight on Channels TV i feel sad. How time & events changes people. Reuben Abati that used to castigate every former administration in this country now defending the worst administration Nigeria ever has. A case of who pay the piper dictate the tune. But Abati forgot that the piper controls the rhyme of the tune. Abati is someone i respected so much but tonight he has lost my respect. Nobody is to be respected in this country anymore. A case of doing what it takes to grab part of the national cake. Abati is grabbing his own. Why am i even saying this. Didnt thesame thing happen in my local govt INELG. Nigeria is a nation of HYPOCRITICAL CITIZENS. I TRUST PEOPLE BUT CAN NEVER TRUST THE DEVIL INSIDE THEM.
I feel so good listening to Dr Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to the president on media and publication. His informations includes facts which are contradictory as informations to nigerians about president GEJ performances. However, I love to say that many misinformation are sponsored via-political undertones in nigeria.
I pity Mr. Reuben Abati. He simply talks out of ignorance. He is too eager to impress his pay master. Kindly watch him make fool of himself on Channels TV.
Hm. .. just wondering what's the worth of Reuben Abati' bank account as compared to when he was with The Guardian Newspaper...
I can see Reuben Abati on Channels TV live struggling to defend Mr. president's achievements in 2013. It's not really easy to lie. I can see him struggling.
Reuben Abati is suffering from a political disease called Megalomania . His principal, Ebele Jonathan is suffering from a serious mental illness called Paranoid delusion . This is the way I see his claim that Jonathan is the only President thas had given Nigeria a road map. Which Map ? Map of Poverty; map of corruption ; map of ineptitude ; map of failure in so many directions. Really, this man Abati does not know anything about Nigeria. He is a big fool.
Reuben Abati, the Presidential spokesperson claimed that the media have been taken over by opposition. What he needs to know is that, the media landscape has widen, with the advent of technology. Nigerians no longer wait for the monotonous NTA or FRCN to come and read a scripted protocol news that is full of commending our extravagant leaders, their wives and cronies. The market place of ideas has been widely open, Nigerians have their voice through the social media. You cannot force them to listen to the "story-story" coming out from the NTA and FRCN. You cannot also force them to believe your lies while in reality they see opposite.

'President Jonathan has brought light into Nigeria' - Reuben Abati Please where is the light? Still searching. Sometimes its best to keep silent than make further fool of yourself! Help me tell Abati!
What is this jargon Dr. Reuben Abati is up to now on media, Why not let someone not in GEJ 's government speak? Who will the houseflies follow? If not the one with wounds! Good government is never in words but in action!
FLASH! "General Olusegun Obasanjo left Nigeria in Darkness and President Jonathan brought Light" Reuben Abati on he is lying through his false teeth!
Goodluck Jonathan and problems he did not create I had the rare privilege, as a 13-year-old many years ago, of witnessing the enormous message-registering power of body language in the humble apartment of a neighbourhood uncle with whom I shared mutual fondness. His “tear-rubber” wife had sauntered into the sitting room while I was savouring the excitement of humour with him. Within 20 seconds, she had recited the line “honey, I’m sure you know I love you” at least three times as she fidgeted in different directions of the room. Then, without minding the little presence disturbing their romantic peace, radiant smile playing suggestively on her face, she lowered her captivating athletic frame onto his laps and delivered the bewitching line “e tie rerin” as she rubbed the glittering wedding ring on her index finger against his tingling nose. Uncle and I understood what she recited in English because we both spoke the language. We also got the music she sang in Yoruba, which meant “you are no ...

"Asari Dokubo,Reuben Abati,Labaran Maku and Doyin Okupe, shld be ashamed of their utterances"Awon Weyrey
REMEMBERING OUR HEROES PAST AND PRESENT SERIES 9 : BETWEEN AWO AND Asari Dokubo: SINCE Oba Erediauwa's autobiography, "I Remain Sir, Your Obedient Servant", in which the Benin monarch put Ife behind Benin, there has been a subtle effort by the Yoruba intelligentsia to relocate their mythical suzerainty. Extremist stories have since come from Yoruba historians, journalists, politicians and mythologists, to reclaim their position. I place Reuben Abati's 'Awo and Asari Dokubo', (The Guardian, Friday, March 25, 2005), as one. The content is not new; a recapitulation of half-truths, a revisionist history of sorts. Abati's apprehension seems to be that Ile-Ife is denigrated, and now Awo's 'hallowed' memory is being disparaged. Thus, he spends about 90 per cent of his write-ups to eulogise the memory of Awo and used the remaining 10 per cent to criminalise Asari Dokubo. Awo's memory is impeccable, sacred and even godly. Though he agrees that 'Awo has been called worse names in the past', but certainly, not by ir ...

Obasanjo’s letter and Jonathan’s many sins By Rotimi Fasan IT was a kind of love letter, a labour of love the writer titled ‘Before it is too late’ but which has been variously renamed by commentators. I’m talking here of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter to his political protégé, President Goodluck Jonathan. It was, or meant to be, a private letter which eventually found its way into the public space. This has got presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, running at the mouth like a repentant witch. He has accused Obasanjo of bad faith, called him names but in the end promised his principal’s personal response to the letter. Which is all he should have said, if it was at all necessary to respond in any way other than address the issues raised by the former president. But the exposure of this letter no doubt forced the hand of Abati to a hasty response. Such private letters to Jonathan from Obasanjo had received no response from Jonathan. This much Obasanjo said in his letter. This i ...
Impeachment Call: Is APC’s statement treasonable? on december 19, 2013 at 12:03 am in law & human rights BY DAYO BENSON & ABDULWAHAB ABDULAH On the heels of a scathing 18- page letter which former President Olusegun Obasanjo, wrote to President Good luck Jonathan on the state of the nation, All Progressive Congress, APC, the unsparing opposition of ruling Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, asked the National Assembly to impeach Jonathan. Expectedly, the call which was contained in a statement issued and signed by APC acting National Publicity Secretary , Alhaji Lai Mohammed, elicited angry reaction from the presidency. Senior Special Assistant to the president on media, Dr. Reuben Abati responding to APC said opposition leaders should be prepared to face treason charge for making such a brazen call. Questions then arise: Is the APC statement treasonable in the eyes of the law? What actually constitute treason and what are the ingredients? We juxtapose the two separate statements with the relevant secti ...
On a very serious note I think Reuben Abati would have made a very good spokesman for General Sani Abacha. He forgets now it is a democracy.
WHY JONATHAN DID NOT SPEAK AT MANDELA'S MEMORIAL SERVICE - ABATI Presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, has stated that Nigeria’s President Jonathan’s inability to give a personal eulogy was not an insult on the president as believed by many people. Abati said that Jonathan did not speak because there was no need for a personal speech as the Chairman of the African Union (AU) Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, had already spoken on behalf of all African leaders. According to Daily Independent: It was good enough that Jonathan attended the event in solidarity with the people of South Africa, said Abati, who described the attendant fuss back home as an “indication of a rising, minority tendency to read the negative into every official item”. Abati added that “it is a classic case of much ado about nothing” and “a complete non-issue”. According to him: “The late Madiba’s burial is not a United Nations debating session. It is what it is a burial: a solemn, national ceremony. “Leaders ...

Nigeria State House Confirms President Jonathan Had Acute Abdominal Pain President Goodluck Jonathan will return to Nigeria on Sunday and be at work the following day, presidential spokesman Reuben Abati has said. In a second statement on Saturday, Mr. Abati for the first time indicated that the president was examined and treated for “severe abdominal pains,” but that doctors have now certified him fully fit to return home and continue his official duties. “After a thorough evaluation of the President's symptoms, medically referred to as acute abdomen, the doctors concluded that no surgical intervention was required.” It was not clear what was the spokesman identified as “acute abdomen,” but SaharaReporters has learned that Mr. Jonathan was treated at King Edward VII's Hospital Sister Agnes in Westminster, London. In an earlier press statement, President Jonathan threatened SaharaReporters for reporting that his health crisis was preceded by a heavy birthday celebration in his honour at his ** ...

N40 billion bribe: Jonathan denies Sule Lamido’s claim of minister’s involvement Talatu Usman - 2 days agoNEWS The governor said he personally alerted the president. President Goodluck Jonathan scrambled a swift rebuttal Friday to a shocking allegation by Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, who accused Mr. Jonathan of failing to act on credible information about a government minister receiving $250 million (N37.5 billion) bribe from an oil company. In an interview on the Hausa service of Abuja based Vision (92.1) FM radio on Thursday, Mr. Lamido said he personally drew the attention of the president to the bribery involving an unnamed minister. Mr. Jonathan blatantly refused to act, the governor said. “Do you know that recently a top minister received a $250 million (N39.7 billion) bribe for himself… he (the minister) is in the cabinet; he is in this current regime; he knows and I know, and I told the President,” Mr. Lamido alleged. In a response Friday, Mr. Jonathan said the claim was “grossl ...

Yinka Gbadebo-led NANS, Blood Of Nigerian Students And The Ghost Of Stewardship By Inibehe Effiong By ekwere On 9 Nov, 2013 At 06:55 AM | Categorized As Hot news | With 0 Comments By Inibehe Effiong Nigerian Students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have had successive presidents leading them. NANS which was birthed in 1980 as a successor to the National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) which was proscribed by the despotic and anti-students military dispensation of Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo has been terribly and serially abused, exploited, factionalized, monetized and wickedly politicized. The emergence of Mr. Yinka Gbadebo a.k.a Ayefele as the 26th president of NANS at its last Convention held in Uyo on the 18th December, 2012, is a terrible mistake of history that will haunt the student movement in Nigeria for years to come. Ayefele who was rusticated from the Ekiti State University (EKSU), for assaulting the University’s Vice Chancellor is currently a diploma stud ...

Arik Air, the largest commercial airline in the country, has a fleet of 23 aircraft. Figures obtained from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority revealed that N9.08bn is spent to maintain the 10 presidential jets every year. Ex-ASUU chief, Iyayi, dies in collision with Wada’s convoy • Don loses life in bid to decide strike’s suspension • Jonathan, Mark, Labour, varsity teachers, others mourn TRAGEDY struck the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Tuesday as its former President, Prof. Festus Iyayi, died in a motor accident in Kogi State. The Head of Department of Business Administration, University of Benin (UNIBEN), was said to have died in a crash involving the convoy of Kogi State Governor Idris Wada near Lokoja. The ASUU-marked vehicle in which he was said to be travelling to Kano State for a national leadership meeting of the association over its four-month strike, along with three of his colleagues, was reportedly hit by a police escort vehicle attached to the governor’s convoy. This forced Iyayi’s vehicle to somersault three times. The condition of Iyayi’s three other colleagues was said to be critical at press time yesterday. Iyayi had been part of ASUU’s negotiating team with the Federal Govern ...
If Reuben Abati could behave like esau and sell his birthright for Government money, how about you? Are you to big/holy/smart?
You could say it again: the negotiations over the last Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, were perhaps, the most arduous in the history of strikes in Nigeria. Initially, the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, did not want to be involved directly. He only wanted to do so through proxies. It started with Governor Gabriel Suswam-led universities Needs Assessment Implementation Committee and later Namadi Sambo-led mediation committee, none of which succeeded in brokering agreements that could bring an end to the strike. Much later, the Senate led by its President, David Mark, dismissed the 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and the striking union as unrealistic, while the House of Representatives offered to approve a budgetary intervention to enable ASUU end the strike. The Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who was briefed by the Aminu Suleiman-led House Committee on Education asked to investigate and recommend solution appealed to the warring parties to resolve the issues involved in ...

THE BLOOD OF PROF.FESTUS IYAYI,FG/ASUU AND NIGERIAN STUDENTS. Hope of a possible suspension of the ongoing strike by university teachers this week hit the rock on Tuesday as a former National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, prof.Festus Iyayi, died in an accident involving a vehicle in the convoy of the Kogi state Governor, captain Idris Wada(retd). His death made ASUU to postpone its National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for the Bayero University,Kano to discuss the position of its over 50 branches on the offer made to the union by the Federal Government.Prof.Iyayi,a member of the negotiating team of ASUU, was traveling to kano before his untimely death. But what many would find instructive is the fact that Iyayi died in the course of prosecuting the battle in which ASUU has engaged the FG,fighting for the revitalization of the university system,in the past four months.People who believe in the prophetic power of writers may thus find cause to,in retrospection, attach more impor ...

Sule Lamido on G-7/PDP crisis: ‘Why Jonathan must negotiate’ I’m really kind of amused. Here is a political party that was formed with some kind of ideas and belief with the primary role of always capturing power to run the country; it is in crisis because the people who now claim ownership of the party have no idea what is called party management and therefore would go to court and seek relief from the court to compel members of the party to stand by the party or use police to enforce followership of the party. Now that is a very primitive party culture. What would it translate to on election day? Would the crisis make us win the election or lose the election? And then from this, take your own position. If the crisis would make them win the election, let them continue with the crisis, but if the crisis would make them lose the election, which is the ultimate in political party formation; if we are going to lose the election through the crisis, then it means that should be enough warning. Do not go ...

EXCLUSIVE: Nigerian govt blocks Amaechi, NGF from meeting Bill Gates; politicizes polio eradication campaign The political standoff between Governor Rotimi Amaechi and President Goodluck Jonathan has assumed a dangerous dimension with the Federal Government now deliberately sabotaging the effective partnership between the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to eradicate polio from the country. Bill Gates has through his Foundation been involved in several interventions for the eradication of polio in Nigeria. On February 1, 2009, Nigeria’s 36 governors met with the American billionaire businessman to seek his assistance at a time Nigeria and India accounted for 90 percent of polio cases globally. A Memorandum of Understanding was later signed between the Gates Foundation and the Governors’ Forum, with both parties having now consistently worked together in the past four years, with polio cases dropping drastically nationwide. But PREMIUM TIMES can authoritatively r ...

The Federal Government has set up a 3 man Committee to investigate the failed Abuja Eclipse. Briefing news men after an emergence FEC meeting last night the Minister for Information Labaran Maku stated that the failed eclipse was a major disaster for FCT residents which denied them of their God-given rights which supersede even the constitutional rights of citizens. The Committee headed by the NSA Col. Sambo Dasuki also has the DG SSS and Chief of Defence Staff as members. In a separate interview the Minister for Science and Technology opined that sabotage may not be ruled out and remonstrated that the near total power outage in the FCT could have also been a factor as the eclipse ordinarily requires sufficient electricity to fully manifest. He dismissed insinuations that ASUU may have had a hand in the fiasco, a position supported by his Education counterpart Nyesom Wike. Wike posited that ASUU lacked the wherewithal to pull of such a clinical operation. Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati assured Niger ...

Is There Anything Like Holy Ghost Fire In The Bible? Instead of carefully scrutinizing what they have been taught in the light of the Scriptures, many professed Christians today allow themselves to be carried away by every wind of doctrine as long as such appear to satisfy their immediate emotional and material concerns. One of such doctrines is the teaching that there is something like "holy ghost fire" which can be invoked to destroy one's enemies or whatever obstacles that may lie in one's way. Some seekers-after-truth have been asking whether this teaching is supported by the Scriptures. One of those who have expressed such concern is Dr. Reuben Abati of The Guardian. In an article entitled "The prayer warriors" he complained that the manner "Holy Ghost fire" prayers were being said at a Pentecostal church he attended amounted to arguing with God. Asserting that in these churches "Prayer-time is war time", he added: "Prayer warriors worship a God of spectacle, they reach out to a distant God who has t ...

Dear President Good Luck Jonathan I was happy to see you yesterday at the mid-term dinner. You looked so happy. You even cried after that drama performance by those little children. You did not cry alone. The honourable minister for petroleum resources shed a few tears too. Crying is good. I just hope you cry at night too, for your nation, we don't have the uninterrupted power supply you promised us. I hope you sob in your pillow too, your million dollar pillow, for those pretty people bombed to smithereens by Boko Haram, and those hungry Children on Helon Habila's poverty street. They need your tears as well. They need a human president. A president who cries. I was wondering about your whereabouts. I mean, I kept asking 'where is my president? I need to see my darling president.' You don't appear on TV like you used to. You know, those days when you hadn't whipped us, we loved you so much, and you knew. So you made frequent appearances on Television, armed with handsome speeches, even though eloquence i ...
where are the lovers of democracy? what is the similarity between June 12, 1993 and May 24, 2013? Someone won an election, but denied of the victory of the election. When people fought for June 12, it was not because of MKO Abiola and also those people fighting for the validation of the NGF mandate of May 24, are not doing it for Amaechi, but for justice.
This is why Reuben Abati's current occupation grates.
Punch Restructuring of federal agencies in order JUNE 27, 2013 BY EDITORIAL BOARD AFTER prevaricating for over a year, the Federal Executive Council has begun the consideration of the White Paper on the restructuring of the federal bureaucracy. A presidential committee headed by Stephen Oronsaye, a former Head of Service of the Federation, on the rationalisation and restructuring of agencies, had submitted a report, which recommended the merger and abolition of some agencies in 2011. Many of these agencies have overlapping functions, while some are dead wood. A total of 541 agencies were considered by the committee. A White Paper Drafting Committee that reviewed Oronsaye’s proposals has accepted recommendations on 321 agencies and rejected others. But this is a path first trodden 13 years ago; the journey ended in a blind alley. Under Olusegun Obasanjo’s Presidency, a reform panel headed by a former federal permanent secretary, Ahmed Joda, had recommended the harmonisation of some Ministries, Agencie ...
