"All humans are entrepreneurs", said Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize winner and micro finance pioneer. This was true at the dawn of the mankind and is certainly true now, according to LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman. This doesn't mean that everyone should own a business. It just means no matter what your career is, you must think and act like an entrepreneur. The days of traditional employment as we know it are long gone. This requires individuals to be empowered with new tool set which they can use to stay competitive and march ahead. The tool set is called

History of CrowdFunding Overview Signed into law on April 5, 2012 by President Obama, CrowdFunding provides reduced costs and opens additional sources of capital to the entrepreneurial and small business community by allowing them to leverage the power of social media. The industry has seen explosive growth in recent years. In their May 2013 report, industry analyst Massolution reported an 81% growth rate for 2012, predicting $5.1 billion in worldwide volume for 2013. With prominent investors such as Google Ventures, Donald Trump, Reid Hoffman, Mike Maples, Michael Birch and Tim Ferriss joining the crowd, the opportunity becomes even more apparent. A market in hyper-growth, with no sign of slowing down and an audience eager for resources creates the perfect storm for businesses looking to connect and offer resources to the small business community. With A&E, CNBC, and Yahoo launching CrowdFunding TV shows similar to Shark Tank, CrowdFunding is dominating the news cycle. The Securities and Exchange Commiss ...

Joichi Ito thoughts on Serendipity. From a conversation with Reid Hoffman at MIT Media Lab April 4, 2012 "Serendipity's hard. It's like meditation. You don't meditate by falling asleep. It takes a certain amount of focus. When you're a good hunter, with a bow and arrow, there's a point where you stop looking, and see everything. Without this hunter's eye, you can never see all of the motion. It's the same thing when you're looking for mushrooms. Part of it's pattern recognition, and part of it's this disciplined way of looking. Serendipity shouldn't be random. It requires hard work."

Billionaires' Advice For New College Grads 01.Steve Jobs: Live Each Day As If It Was Your Last When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, some day you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "no" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. ~Stanford University, 2005 02.Bill Gates: From Those To Whom Much Is Given, Much Is Expected My mother, who was filled with pride the day I was admitted here-never stopped pressing me to do more for others. Emily Chang Host of "Bloomberg West" My First Job: A Turtle-Sized Break October 28, 2013 A turtle had washed up on the north shore of Oahu. It wasn't a story that would make history. In truth, no one would talk about it on the island for more than 5 minutes -- but, to me, it was the biggest story in the world. It was the first story I was assigned to write for a newscast on Channel 4. It was the summer after my freshman year of college. I decided to return home to Hawaii for an unpaid internship at KITV, one of the local stations. A few months earlier, I realized I didn't want to be a doctor and dropped out of all my pre-med classes. Harvard didn't have a communications program, so if I wanted to become a reporter, I'd have to be entrepreneurial and find my own opportunities. When I got to KITV, I had to be aggressive and ask each of the reporters and anchors if I could "shadow" them when they went out in the field. Otherwise, I’d have to sit in the newsroom transcribing tape all day. I made myself as u ...

Reid Hoffman: Be Contrarian And Be Right Always think creatively and boldly. Where do you see a massive opportunity? Where do you think something is going to change, where you see something that most other people don't see? Part of being a successful entrepreneur is to be contrarian and to be right. It's the two that are particularly important because if it was obvious to everyone there's no market opportunity, there's no gap to go do something about it. But then you have to be right about it. ~UC Berkeley School of Information, 2011

Success isn't always vertical. -- Reid Hoffman In his 2012 commencement speech at Boston's Babson College, LinkedIn co-founder Hoffman touted the importance of the entrepreneurial spirit. While stressing the importance of building a wide network, Hoffman pointed out that success will likely not resemble climbing a ladder as many grew up to believe. Best advice: "Success…is no longer a simple ascension of steps. You need to climb sideways and sometimes down, and sometimes you need to swing from the jungle gym and establish your own turf somewhere else on the playground."
“The value of being connected and transparent is so high that the roadbumps of privacy issues are much lower in actual experience than people’s fears.” – Reid Hoffman, founder and Executive Chairman of LinkedIn

How to Find Opportunities in Your Social Network June 12, 2013 inShare2 Thirty years ago a landmark academic study demonstrated that most people who get new jobs through networking with others almost always get those jobs not from their closest friends or colleagues, but from those they didn’t really know as well. This principle, known as the “strength of weak ties,” has become famous as social networks have proliferated and people have struggled to understand how to extract value from them. LinkedIn’s own Co-Founder, Reid Hoffman, referenced the principle in his post last year, about the two types of professional relationships you should maintain: allies and acquaintances. If you’re looking for a new job (and half or more of LinkedIn members apparently are), then the weak-ties principal is worth paying close attention to. In fact, it’s worth knowing about for a lot of other reasons, also. If you’re a sales person looking for leads, or a venture capitalist looking for investments, or a corpo ...

Schmidt, for example, is a top donor to President Barack Obama and Senator Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican and tech advocate. Zuckerberg, 29, is newer to politics, having never written a check to Obama or any other federal candidate, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, based in Washington.
