What's your take? Manchester United to make £90m Gareth Bale bid Fresh reports have emerged claiming that Manchester United are ready to offer Real Madrid £90m to secure the signature of Gareth Bale. The Welshman, who joined the Spanish giants from Tottenham Hotspur for a world-record fee last year, emerged as a target for the Red Devils earlier this month. United have been linked with Bale in the past, although having previously missed out to Madrid for his services it was thought that they had been priced out of a move. However, the Daily Star reports that Louis van Gaal will offer Los Blancos a huge sum to land the forward when the transfer window reopens in January, as the Dutchman looks to continue strengthening his squad.

Clasico boasted Europe's most expensive lineups, study reveals Real Madrid's meeting with Barcelona at the Bernabeu last month saw the most expensive collection of players on the field of any match in Europe this season, according to a CIES Football Observatory study. The clasico in October saw talent worth 690 million euros take to the field, despite the absence of the injured Gareth Bale, who was reported to have cost Madrid 100 million euros when he joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013. Additionally, Barcelona did not pay fees for Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Pedro or Sergi Roberto, who all featured in their side's 3-1 defeat, while Madrid captain Iker Casillas also emerged through his club's academy. REALMadrid, whose side featured big money signings including Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez, contributed 424 million euros to the total, with Luis Suarez and Neymar contributing the bulk of Barca's 267 million euros. Real Madrid is interested in signing Hugo Lloris from Tottenham Hotspur. He could replace Iker Casillas. [marca] http:…
Real Madrid interested in Hugo Lloris Real Madrid are believed to favour a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris over a swoop for Manchester United's David De Gea. The European champions are apparently searching for a new first-choice goalkeeper after becoming concerned by the dipping form of Iker Casillas. They have been linked with both Premier League stoppers, and The Express claims that they are ready to prioritise a move for Lloris as they see him as a more realistic target. De Gea, 24, would reportedly be reluctant to leave United after emerging as a key player for the Red Devils, but Lloris may seek a way out of Spurs should they not qualify for the Champions League this season. The France captain, who moved to White Hart Lane from Lyon for £11m in 2012, is also believed to be a target for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco. Casillas is contracted to Real until 2017 and currently has Costa Rica star Keylor Navas for competition.
Goalkeeper David De Gea has hinted that he will remain at Manchester United by insisting that media speculation about his future cannot be taken seriously. The £19m signing from Atletico Madrid has developed into one of United's most reliable performers after overcoming a shaky start to his Old Trafford career. Reports have claimed that the Red Devils are worried about losing the 24-year-old, who has yet to agree a new contract and has been linked with Real Madrid , but De Gea has insisted that he is focused on United - where he feels "wanted" and "loved". He told reporters: "In Manchester I feel wanted. If you took seriously what is written about you, you'd almost think you're going to a thousand clubs. "So the best you can do is pay attention to where you are. I feel very loved by Man United." The Spaniard's reluctance to leave United has reportedly seen Madrid prioritise Tottenham Hotspur stopper Hugo Lloris in their search for a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas .
FIFA Ballon d'Or 2014 The FIFA Ballon d'Or trophy Gareth Bale WALES In his debut Real Madrid season Gareth Bale helped the Spanish giants to the season they have long been waiting for, as they finally sealed their tenth UEFA Champions League title. Putting them ahead for the first time on the night, it was the last of 22 goals in an impressive first year. His memorable strike to clinch the Copa del Rey against old foes Barcelona, alongside 15 assists, ensured the Welshman made a spectacular impact at the Santiago Bernabeu following his transfer of more than €90m from Tottenham Hotspur, with a UEFA Super Cup win adding to his success. Karim Benzema FRANCE It seems an age since Karim Benzema went 1,222 minutes without notching a goal for France. Madrid have confirmed on their official website that Gareth Bale has suffered a hip injury, placing him in doubt for this week's Champions League match versus Liverpool and the Liga game against Barcelona at the weekend. Bale was already left on the bench during Madrid 's 5-0 win over Levante on Saturday and he now looks set for a spell on the sidelines. "After Gareth Bale was tested by Real Madrid's Sanitas health services, he has been diagnosed with an injury in the right piriformis muscle," a club statement reads. Bale has developed into a key figure at Madrid ever since joining the Santiago Bernabeu side since joining them from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013. The Welshman netted 22 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions last term, including one in the 4-1 Champions League final win over Atletico Madrid in Lisbon. He has scored five goals in 12 games so far in 2014-15 season.
Manchester United returned to the Premier League's top four for the first time in more than a year as Radamel Falcao's first United goal proved decisive against Everton. Angel Di Maria's calm finish gave the hosts a lead that survived to half-time as Leighton Baines saw a penalty saved. Baines picked out Steven Naismith to nod in an equaliser and Falcao cleared a Phil Jagielka header off the line. But Falcao stabbed in from Di Maria's shot to grab the winner. Everton, who have won only one of their first seven league games, could easily have taken something from the game but Bryan Oviedo, who scored the winner in the fixture last season, was denied by a tremendous stoppage-time save from David De Gea. - Chelsea stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points on Sunday when they beat London rivals Arsenal 2-0 as surprise package Southampton went down 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur. By Mike Collett LONDON, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli were at the heart of Tottenham Hotspur's 4-0 thrashing of Queens Park Rangers on Sunday as two of the much-derided flops of last season combined to offer hope for yet another new era in North London. Tottenham fans have suffered too many false dawns over the years to get too carried away by a win that put Spurs top of the league after two games under new coach Mauricio Pochettino but even the most jaundiced would have gone home happy. Six other players were signed to fill the void left by Bale's move to Real Madrid, but apart from Dane Christian Eriksen, none of the other arrivals, including Brazil's Paulinho, made any notable impact. Lamela was far more authoritative in Spurs' 1-0 win at West Ham United last week than he was in any match he played last season while on Thursday he created both goals in their 2-1 Europa League win over AEL Limassol in Cyprus after coming on as a substitute halfway through the second half.

Liverpool continue to chase Alberto Moreno but refuse to pay over the odds for the highly-rated Sevilla left-back. The Reds have tabled a £16m bid for the 21-year-old, who won the Europa League with the La Liga outfit last month. And they refuse to be drawn into an auction over the player, with Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur among other potential suitors. Moreno himself remains coy over the switch. “All I know is that I’ve been a Sevillista since I was a kid,” he said. “My future? I do not know about that. “That’s a matter for my father and my agent to deal with. I have four years I am dedicated to play and I’m happy here.”

Mauricio Pochettino, Southampton's manager, is poised to take over at Tottenham Hotspur with the London club now accepting that the Argentine is the best option to fill their vacant Head Coach role. The Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, had been told before Saturday's Champions League final that Carlo Ancelotti was not an option, whether Real Madrid won the game or not. Frank de Boer, the Ajax manager, remains the back-up candidate to Pochettino but Spurs went cold on him after he spoke publicly about their approach. Taking over at Spurs will cap a remarkable 16 months in the Premier League for Pochettino, who took over at Southampton in January last year on a contract that expires at the end of next season. There is hope at Tottenham that the former Espanyol coach will be capable of working in tandem with a director of football, the position currently held by Franco Baldini. Another factor in his favour is that he is regarded as a prime candidate to coax the best out of fellow Argentine Erik Lamela, the club' ...

UPDATE: Liverpool attacker Luis Suarez continues to lead the race for the European Golden Shoe with a one-goal lead over second-placed Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, but Lionel Messi’s fine form for Barcelona in recent weeks has seen last year’s winner storm into the top three. Suarez proved unable to find the net in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over West Ham United, while Ronaldo sat out Madrid’s victory over Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, Messi added two goals to his tally as Barcelona thumped Betis 3-1 at the weekend and has now closed the gap with Suarez to four, level with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa. Patrice Evra has backed Manchester United to surprise holders Bayern Munich and progress to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. HOW THE PFA TEAM OF THE YEAR MAY LOOK LIKE. As the season draws to a close it's getting towards the PFA Team of the Year announcement and this term it could be really close to decide who gets in. A lot has changed in the last 12 months; Jose Mourinho has returned as Chelsea manager, Manchester United have had their worst campaign to date and are not even close to defending their Premier League title and Liverpool could win the championship for the first time since 1990. This transition makes me feel that the Team of the Year is going to look a lot different to that of the 2012/13 campaign - which for those of you interested. I expect there to be wholesale changes from this starting XI, not least because the Red Devils quartet (barring David De Gea) have all been relatively poor and Juan Mata is now struggling at Old Trafford himself. As for the Tottenham Hotspur duo, Gareth Bale has since become the most expensive player of all time and left for Real Madrid, whilst Jan Vertonghen has been in and out of a ...

Tottenham Hotspur hope to beat Liverpool to the signing of Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi, 21. Borussia Dortmund are pondering a move for Spurs defender Vlad Chiriches, 24, who is valued at £8m. Arsenal title blow: Wenger confirms Ozil out for ‘a few weeks’ talkSPORT Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League have been further dented by the news Mesut Ozil will miss ‘a few weeks’ with a serious hamstring injury. The Gunners star, who was signed in the summer from Real Madrid for £42.5million, has struggled for form in the second-half of the season, but a bright display against Everton in the FA Cup had boosted his spirits.Ozil, 25, though, was substituted at half-time of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, which ended in a 1-1 draw on the night and a 3-1 defeat on aggregate. And he will now definitely miss the Gunners’ clash with rivals Tottenham Hotspur, and possibly several other matches as they attempt to win the Premier League ahead of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool. "[Mesut Ozil] has a hamstring problem that looks quite serious," Wenger said. "I don't know [how long he will be out for], but for sure ...
Robert Emmanuel Pirès was born on the 29th of October in 1973.. Bobbys birthplace was in Reims, France.. Bobby is a former French international footballer who is best known for his time with Arsenal, with whom he won three FA Cups and two FA Premier League titles including the club's famous unbeaten season of 2003–04... Robert Pires was signed by Arsenal for £6 million in 2000, after stiff competition from Real Madrid and Juventus, replacing Marc Overmars, who had left for Barcelona for a record £25 million. Initially, Pirès' form was indifferent, and some people criticised him after his comments that the English game was too physical. However, he slowly began to regain the form he had shown at Metz, scoring a superb solo goal against Lazio in the 2000–01 Champions League, and the winner against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-finals. However, Arsenal went on to lose the Cup final to Liverpool 2–1. By 2001–02, Bobby had fully got to grips with the English game and had one of his best seas ...

European success Ferguson led Aberdeen to even greater success the following season (1982–83). They had qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup as a result of winning the Scottish Cup the previous season, and impressively knocked out Bayern Munich, who had beaten Tottenham Hotspur 4–1 in the previous round. According to Willie Miller, this gave them the confidence to believe that they could go on to win the competition,[41] which they did, with a 2–1 victory over Real Madrid in the final on 11 May 1983. Aberdeen became only the third Scottish team to win a European trophy and Ferguson now felt that "he'd done something worthwhile with his life".[42] This was followed up with victory in the European Super Cup in December 1983, when Hamburg, the reigning European Cup champions were beaten 2–0 over two legs. Aberdeen had also performed well in the league ...

Five problems facing Spurs By SAPA London – Tottenham Hotspur are looking to appoint a sixth permanent manager since 2004 after sacking Portuguese Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas on Monday. Spurs have been beaten 5-0 by Liverpool and 6-0 by Manchester City in the last month, leaving them seventh in the Premier League table and compromising hopes of a top-four finish. Here are some of the most pressing issues awaiting attention in the in-tray of Villas-Boas's successor. 1 Sharpen the attack Spurs ceded last season's 26-goal top scorer Gareth Bale to Real Madrid during the close season, but their loss of potency in attack has nonetheless been alarming. Despite lavishing around £70 million on attacking players Roberto Soldado, Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli, Spurs have scored only 15 goals in 16 league games. Soldado, a £26 million acquisition from Valencia, has only scored four times in the league, with Jermain Defoe reduced to a bit-part role despite being the top goal-scorer in the Europ ...
'Bale sale the root of Villas-Boas sacking' 16 December 2013 Updated 14:09 GMT By Phil McNulty - Chief football writer, BBC Sport The nightmare played out in front of Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy at White Hart Lane on Sunday was simply too grim for manager Andre Villas-Boas to survive - and so it proved as he was sacked only 16 games into the Premier League season. Spurs are only six points behind the vibrant Liverpool side that dismantled them piece by piece in that 5-0 defeat and five points adrift of the Champions League places that represented the minimum requirement for Villas-Boas this season. But it was the scale of the gap in style and quality between Spurs and Liverpool, with the recent 6-0 loss at Manchester City no doubt still fresh in Levy's mind, that was the final straw for this demanding chairman. And to trace the roots of Villas- Boas's demise requires a journey back to the summer and the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in an £85.3m move. Villas-Boas lost his match winner, th ...

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to offer Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo a lucrative contract in an attempt to lure him to England. The Italian is approaching the end of the three year deal he signed with Juventus in 2011 after leaving AC Milan. TuttoMercatoWeb report that the Premier League side have offered Pirlo €6 million a year, which is approximately €2m above what he is currently earning in Turin. The 35-year-old has been linked with Real Madrid who could offer the World Cup winner a contract should Spaniard Xabi Alonso leave in summer. Pirlo has made 81 Serie A appearances for Juventus since joining them, scoring 11 times. He has made 472 appearances in Serie A in total for Brescia, Inter, Milan and Juventus.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is considering a potential loan-move for Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao once the January transfer window opens, with the possibility of making it permanent in the Summer. Despite Mourinho having one of the best left-backs in the world at his disposal, continous injuries to Ashley Cole has got The Blues boss worrying about his future and has made him think about finding a short-term replacement. As for Coentrao, he rarely gets a game for Real Madrid these days and was close to making a Summer move away from the Bernabeu with both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur interested in his services. Mourinho's idea is to capture the 25-year-old on a loan deal at first, before potentially making it permanent after the left-back has experienced English football. However, it is believed that Chelsea's main defensive target is Southampton's Luke Shaw, which they may pursue in the Summer.

Transfer news: Andre Villas-Boas rules out a move for a left-back in January - FJ Tottenham Hotspur coach Andre Villas-Boas has no intention of dipping into the January transfer market for a left-back. Spurs have found themselves short in that area following an injury to Danny Rose. Jan Vertonghen's versatility has allowed him to provide cover of an international class, but he openly admits to feeling far from happy in a full-back berth. That has led some to suggest that Villas-Boas will look to bolster his ranks in the New Year, having been strongly linked with Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao over the summer. The Portuguese tactician is, however, of the opinion that he has no need to spend on defensive reinforcements. Asked if a left-back is in his thoughts ahead of Sunday's trip to Manchester City, Villas-Boas said: "No, I don't think so. "Danny Rose is still out but making good progress on his injury so we're looking for a two or three-week period now finally for his return." Villas-Boas has also sought t ...

European Match of the Weekend: Barcelona v Real Madrid The 167th La Liga 'Clasico' between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Nou Camp on Saturday could be the ideal stage for Gareth Bale and Neymar to show they are worth a combined price tag of almost £135 million. Or, as is more likely, one of the most intense rivalries in football and a match watched by hundreds of millions around the world will again showcase the peerless talents of Barca's Argentine World Player of the Year Lionel Messi and Real's Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo. Leaders Barca dropped their first points of the campaign with a 0-0 draw at Osasuna last weekend and victory for Real, as well as providing a huge confidence boost, would put them level with their bitter rivals on 25 points from 10 games. Wales winger Bale replaced Ronaldo as the most expensive player in history when he joined Real from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £86m in the close season, while Barca paid some £49m to lure Brazil forward Neymar from Santos. The agent of Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches has controversially claimed that Chelsea could be willing to spend big to purchase his client if he impresses at White Hart Lane. 23-year-old Chiriches only arrived in North London in August after completing a switch from Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest in a deal reportedly worth £8.5 million. Despite having been at the club for little over a month - during which time he has made just one appearance for Andre Villas-Boas' side - however, Victor Becali already appears to be eyeing a further move across the capital to rivals Chelsea. "If he has one or two good seasons at Tottenham, Chelsea will be willing to pay a large sum to buy Chiriches," he told Sport.ro in an interview that was quoted by the Daily Express. "Mourinho says he has been aware of him since he was at Real Madrid." Chiriches, who has won 21 senior international caps for his country, saw his official move to Spurs frustratingly delayed after difficulties involving his work permit. Af ...

Tottenham Hotspur determined to land Southampton star Luke Shaw in January and will open bidding at £15m: Spurs will continue their summer sprending spree in January and have made Southampton left back Luke Shaw their top target. Shaw has been on Tottenham's radar for more than a year and was high on their shortlist in the summer. Due to lengthy negotiations with Real Madrid over Gareth Bale and Andre Villas-Boas' eagerness to have a player ready to play in the First Team, Spurs pursued Fabio Coentrao instead. However that deal is now thought to be unlikely given the player's wage demands and Tottenham have been impressed enough with Shaw's performances this season to make a significant bid in January. Southampton are reluctant to let their prize asset leave but Spurs are thought to be ready to offer £15m while allowing Shaw to remain at St Mary's for the rest of the season.

Ronald night of goals Ronaldo shines in goals bonanza night Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick for Real Madrid illuminated an opening night goals bonanza as the leading contenders began the Champions League group stage with a bang on Tuesday. Paris St Germain fired a warning that they will be a real threat with a 4-1 victory away to Olympiakos Piraeus while Manchester City won 3-0 at Czech outsiders Viktoria Plzen. Champions League Real Madrid aim to be kings of Europe again If Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, football's most expensive duo, can produce the brilliance that prompted Real Madrid to invest £166 million in, the Spanish giants could finally land their 10th European Cup this season. The 59th season of Europe's elite club competition begins on Tuesday with Bayern Munich defending their title boosted by the signing of Mario Goetze from last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona looking for a fourth crown in nine seasons. Why Real Madrid Think Û100m For Gareth Bale is not silly money At the end of a summer in which more media space has been lavished on his next career move than on Britain's economic agonies or the conflagrations of Syria, a one-time skinny kid from Southampton looks like he is indeed moving to Spain. Gareth Bale, an ordinary Welsh name for a level-headed young man with a blossoming football talent, is set for Real Madrid, who are expected to pay a world-record transfer fee, Û100m, to Tottenham Hotspur for releasing Bale from his current contract. It is not only observers of what used to be called "the people's game" who might think the sport has gone mad, with the payment of so much money for a 24-year-old human being who could tweak a tendon, lose his form or fail to settle in Madrid. Spain's secretary of state for sport, Miguel Cardenal, last week told Sid Lowe, Spanish football correspondent for the Guardian, that Real Madrid ought to explain how this extravagant acquisition can possibly make sense in ...

Liga Spanish press claim Negredo to join City for £24m Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo will join Manchester City in a £24 million deal, according to reports in Spain. Madrid-based sports radio station Marca – affiliated to the newspaper – reported that the Spain international would move to Eastlands for the suspiciously high fee of 28 million euros (£24m). If the move does transpire, Negredo would join former team-mate Jesus Navas at Eastlands after he joined for £15m. The 27-year-old former Almeria, Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano forward has made no secret of his desire to leave Andalusia. He has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur previously tipped as a destination. Discounting the reported fee, City seems like an unusual destination given his reputation as a bustling poacher - Edin Dzeko would presumably leave the Premier League runners-up, and he is widely regarded as a superior target man. Paris St-Germain close to confirming Laurent Blanc as new manager Paris Saint-Germain believe they have concluded their search for a new manager with the appointment of Laurent Blanc on a two- year contract. The move would bring to an end what has been a saga and it will allow Carlo Ancelotti to complete his long-awaited transfer to Real Madrid. Ancelotti's arrival should, in turn, allow Madrid to sign off the striker Gonzalo Higuaín's proposed switch to Arsenal. PSG have known for weeks about Ancelotti's desire to join Madrid and they have been engaged in a testing process to recruit his successor, in which they have variously targeted a host of candidates, including André Villas-Boas of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal's Arsène Wenger. Tottenham Hotspur: Bale urged to submit transfer request: Real Madrid reportedly want Spurs ace Gareth Bale to...
If Gareth Bale wants to sign for Real Madrid he needs to take a very important step. He needs to communicate, in writing, to Spurs that he wants to leave the club. He would need to officially notify the club of his intentions with a duly signed transfer request. This official request is essential for Tottenham Hotspur to be open to negotiations and, as such, allow Real Madrid to make an approach. As and when the Welsh international formally states this, then the clubs will open communications. The opening moves could be played out in what would likely be a lengthy negotiation process because Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, has been trying to work out how much money he can make on the player for quite some time now. Real Madrid is certain that the player would be happy to join up, since he'd love to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, his idol, and his friend Luka Modric. It's also known that he's a quiet character, and that he's not ready to force an exit or apply as much pressure as Modric did last su ...

In the meantime, Zinedine Zidane, one of the most popular Galacticos in Real Madrid's history, has been given the job of luring Tottenham's Gareth Bale to the Spanish capital.
