By Christoph Kockeis Former Norway international Jan Aage Fjortoft feels it would be wrong to compare new Real Madrid signing Martin Odegaard to Barcelona star Lionel Messi and has warned that the 16-year-old should be given time to develop. The youngster is regarded as one of the most exciting talents around and Madrid beat off stiff competition from clubs such as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool and Ajax for Odegaard's signature. The attacking midfielder has even been compared to Messi by some due to his style of play, but Fjortoft has moved to downplay expectations following his compatriot's transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu this January. "Comparing Odegaard to Messi is nonsense from the media. Messi is a player who can make the difference and Martin can do the same, but any comparisons should not be taken seriously," Fjortoft told Goal at the Snow Football World Cup in Arosa. "Martin is only 16 years old and he should be allowed to behave like someone of his age. He shou ...

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has voiced his opinion that Carlo Ancelotti is a better coach than Jose Mourinho. Casillas endured a difficult relationship with the current Chelsea manager during the latter's time at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010 and 2013. However, the Spain international has insisted that he would happily shake Mourinho's hand if they were to run into each other in the future, irrespective of their differences in the past when working together. "Ancelotti is better than Mourinho," Casillas told COPE. "With Mourinho I had a love-hate relationship. "In his time here I did not speak to him when we were in the same locker room, nor do I think that I have to talk now when he is already managing another team and I’m with my team. "It would be a bit self-seeking and little cowardly on my part. I wish things go very well for him. In the time that he was at Real Madrid, he won titles and you have to give him thanks. "If I cross paths with him tomorrow I am going to extend my hand, the ...
Lionel Messi is worth €87 million more than Cristiano Ronaldo , according to research within the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) in Switzerland. The 27-year-old attacker has won four Ballons d'Or in his career so far and skippered Argentina to the World Cup final last year, winning the Golden Ball award for being the best player in the process. Like Ronaldo with Real Madrid, Messi has a contract with Barcelona until June 2018, although reports have been circulating in recent weeks that he might swap Camp Nou for Chelsea due to discontent in Catalunya. But Chelsea will know Messi will not be cheap: the Football Observatory, a research group within CIES, suggest Messi currently has a valuation of €220m. Ronaldo is next in the list, valued at €133m, while world- record signing Gareth Bale sits in 10th with an estimated net worth of €60m to the Santiago Bernabeu club. Chelsea have three players in the top 10: Eden Hazard is rated at €99m in third spot just ahead of fourth-placed Diego ...
Fabio Capello has revealed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger turned down his advice to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez. The Spanish stopper moved to Milan from Real Madrid during the summer after spending two seasons as the first-choice stopper at Santiago Bernabeu. Russia coach Capello, who managed Lopez at Real, says that he recommended the 32-year-old to Wenger during his time as England boss. "Diego Lopez is a good keeper and he will be good for AC Milan. For them to choose Diego Lopez, I am really happy," FourFourTwo quotes Capello as saying. "I spoke with Arsene Wenger when I was with the England national team. I told him to buy Diego Lopez because he is good. He didn't have a problem but he said, 'My keeper is good.'" Capello managed England between 2007 and 2012
BALE TO LEAVE MADRID? Talk of Gareth Bale leaving the Santiago Bernabeu is picking up speed as Spanish paper SPORT report that Real Madrid have already lined up the Welshman's replacement. Apparently Real would be happy to cash in on Bale if they can secure a deal for Marco Reus, who's thought to have a release clause of around £20m in his Borussia Dortmund contract. Real would still demand north of £100m for Bale, however, which leaves Manchester United with a big decision to make following reports that Louis Van Gaal has personally requested the winger. ARSENAL AND LIVERPOOL WANT MILNER According to the Daily Express, Arsenal and Liverpool are both desperate to sign James Milner when his Manchester City contract expires in the summer. Manuel Pellegrini recently said he expects Milner to stay at City, but talks over extending the utility man's deal have stalled. The 28-year-old has previously expressed his desire for regular first-team football, with Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers both hoping to con ...
Louis Van Gaal refused to entertain questions over Manchester United's rumoured bid for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. The 13-time Premier League champions have been linked with interest in the 25-year-old for some time, with ex-manager David Moyes admitting he made an approach ahead of the winger's move to Real Madrid. Bale's agent, David Manasseh, has rubbished talk of his client leaving the Santiago Bernabeu recently, but Van Gaal did not rule out a move when questioned by reporters on Tuesday. "I cannot discus that with you," Van Gaal told reporters. "I discuss that with my CEO and not with anyone of the media." Bale scored as Real Madrid won the Club World Cup final on Saturday, taking his tally since joining the Liga giants to 33 goals and 24 assists in 66 appearances.
Hey guys what is the best quote about Real Madrid that you have heard from anyone(includes your friends, famous personalties etc!) My favourites are- The one by Santiago Bernabeu: "The Real Madrid Shirt is white. It can stain of sweat, of dirt and even blood but never of shame!" The reigning European Champions sealed maximum points from their group stage campaign after running out comfortable winners on Tuesday night Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale struck in the first half to help give Real Madrid a 4-0 win over Ludogorets and make it six wins out of six in Champions League Group B. The defending European Champions were guaranteed top spot but recorded maximum points for the second time in their history after further goals from Alvaro Arbeloa and Alvaro Medran sealed victory. Ludogorets saw Marcelinho sent off midway through the first half and missed out on the Europa League as they struggled to contain the quality of the Spanish giants. Amid early pressure from Real, Ludogorets' slim hopes of taking anything from the Santiago Bernabeu diminished with the loss of a man and a goal in quick succession. Marcelinho – on target in the reverse fixture - handled Raphael Varane's goalbound header to earn a straight red card before Ronaldo converted the penalty to move past club legen ...
Real Madrid are prepared to let Sami Khedira leave the club and will not offer the German midfielder a new contract. According to Cadena SER, Madrid are upset with Khedira after he ignored the offer of an extension to his existing agreement, which expires in June 2015, when he was sidelined for five months with a cruciate ligament injury last year. Also, the 27-year-old, signed from Stuttgart in July 2010, has fallen down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu, having gone from undisputed starter under Jose Mourinho to fighting for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s team behind Isco, James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric
FIFA Ballon d'Or 2014 The FIFA Ballon d'Or trophy Gareth Bale WALES In his debut Real Madrid season Gareth Bale helped the Spanish giants to the season they have long been waiting for, as they finally sealed their tenth UEFA Champions League title. Putting them ahead for the first time on the night, it was the last of 22 goals in an impressive first year. His memorable strike to clinch the Copa Del Rey against old foes Barcelona, alongside 15 assists, ensured the Welshman made a spectacular impact at the Santiago Bernabeu following his transfer of more than €90m from Tottenham Hotspur, with a UEFA Super Cup win adding to his success. Karim Benzema FRANCE It seems an age since Karim Benzema went 1,222 minutes without notching a goal for France. That unenviable run came to a welcome end in October 2013 and since then, the Real Madrid forward has rediscovered his scoring touch on the international stage. Recognised as France’s principal attacking threat during the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, where ...

Champions League Match preview: Liverpool aim to tame rampant Real Madrid, salvage stuttering campaign: After the 'Los Blancos' dished out a footballing masterclass at Anfield, in a 3-0 win over Liverpool, which left even the staunchest of Kopietes applaud Cristiano Ronaldo and his band of champions, the focus shifts to the Santiago Bernabeu, where the two teams clash once again, in what promises to be another dramatic fixture. Though Real Madrid remain 'the' team to beat in this season's Champions League, still they would be wary of a Liverpool side, seething with revenge, thanks to that humiliating Anfield mauling. Tuesday's fixture is a make or break tie for the Reds, considering the fact that their European dreams hang by a thread, and another defeat against Real will seriously sabotage their chances of making it to the Round of 16. Madrid enter the tie in wake of some superb domestic form, which was evident in the recent 4-0 thrashing of La Liga minnows Granada, thus giving Carlo Ancelotti's side a s ...
Borini and Markovic start at the Bernabeu Brendan Rodgers has opted to make seven changes to his team as the Reds prepare to lock horns with reigning European Champions, Real Madrid, at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight. Defensively, the manager switches Kolo Toure in for Dejan Lovren and Javier Manquillo in for Glen Johnson for the Champions League Group B encounter in the Spanish capital. In the middle of the park, Steven Gerrard comes out of the side to be replaced by Lucas Leiva, while summer signing Emre Can is preferred to Jordan Henderson. Martin Skrtel will captain the team. Lazar Markovic replaces Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana starts ahead of Raheem Sterling for the clash against the La Liga pace-setters, who have racked up 11 consecutive wins in all competitions. Up front, Fabio Borini is named ahead of his compatriot Mario Balotelli as Liverpool look to return to winning ways in Europe with a tought test against Carlo Ancelotti's Los Blancos.
Real Madrid host a Liverpool side short on confidence at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Emile Heskey: Losing 3-0 is a good result for Liverpool. The former Reds striker believes it will be damage control for Brendan Rodgers at the Santiago Bernabeu and does not think Raheem Sterling could make the Blancos' team. It’s going to be hard for Liverpool at the Santiago Bernabeu – very, very hard. I was talking to some friends recently, big Liverpool fans, who said they would be happy to take a 2-0 or 3-0 defeat. They just don’t want to be humiliated, like Roma were when they lost 7-1 against Bayern in the last round of matches. The fans are not confident in their team right now and I don’t think Brendan Rodgers will be confident about playing Real Madrid, either. My friends are probably right – I think losing 2-0, even 3-0, would be a good result. If they got a draw it would be their best result of the season. I can’t think of a single Liverpool player who would get into the Real starting line-up.
Bartomeu: Barcelona have total trust in Luis Enrique The Asturian is under pressure after back-to-back Liga losses, but the Blaugrana chief insists that the club are "excited" by what they have seen so far from him Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu insists that there is no crisis at Camp Nou, claiming that coach Luis Enrique retains the full support of the club. After a terrific start to the new Liga season, the Blaugrana have slipped from first to fourth on the back of consecutive defeats away to Real Madrid and at home to Celta. There have been reports within the Spanish press of key players being disgruntled with the starting line-up and tactics for the 3-1 loss at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, Bartomeu does not believe that two successive setbacks is any cause for concern and remains adamant that Luis Enrique is the right man for the job. "It's not a crisis," the Barca supremo told Esport3. "We are just 25 per cent of the way through the season. "It takes patience. Success will come. This is ...

Manchester United are hopeful of landing Real Madrid star Marcelo in January, but have been told they have no chance of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo after receiving a blow in the chase for Chelsea and Liverpool target Marco Reus. The Red Devils are in the market for reinforcements when the transfer window re-opens after Christmas, and one player heading Louis Van Gaal's wishlist is Brazil international. Real Madrid are looking to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich, and are ready to part ways with Marcelo in order to fund the Austrian's move. However, boss Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed United's hopes of signing Ronaldo this summer after saying the player is committed to his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu. United are also keeping tabs on Germany international Reus but could miss out on him as well after Bayern Munich revealed they are looking to sign the winger at the end of the season. Reus is also being followed by Chelsea and Liverpool, and United have a battle on their hands if they want to secure h ...
Madrid have confirmed on their official website that Gareth Bale has suffered a hip injury, placing him in doubt for this week's Champions League match versus Liverpool and the Liga game against Barcelona at the weekend. Bale was already left on the bench during Madrid 's 5-0 win over Levante on Saturday and he now looks set for a spell on the sidelines. "After Gareth Bale was tested by Real Madrid's Sanitas health services, he has been diagnosed with an injury in the right piriformis muscle," a club statement reads. Bale has developed into a key figure at Madrid ever since joining the Santiago Bernabeu side since joining them from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013. The Welshman netted 22 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions last term, including one in the 4-1 Champions League final win over Atletico Madrid in Lisbon. He has scored five goals in 12 games so far in 2014-15 season.

The winger has been in astonishing form for Los Blancos ever since his €94 million move in 2009 but has left the door open for a return one day, with reports suggesting that the Red Devils could try to make it happen in 2015. Ancelotti, though, believes that Ronaldo has no reason to leave Spain. He told The Sun: "Everyone can be changed and substituted but Ronaldo is now the best in the world and it [would mean] Madrid lose the best player, which is a huge loss. Carlo Ancelotti has been discussing comings and goings at Real Madrid, with Angel Di Maria demanding too much to stay. The Argentina international brought a four-year stay at Santiago Bernabeu to an end over the summer when completing a British record £59.7million transfer to Manchester United. Real were reluctant to part with one of their most creative influences, but refused to bow to his salary requests. Experienced performers such as Xabi Alonso and Diego Lopez were also moved out, to Bayern Munich and AC Milan respectively, and Ancelotti insists all of the sales sanctioned made sense for the players and club. He told Cadena COPE: “Di Maria? I was in agreement with the club. There are times when the club needs to say no. You can’t change the policies of the club for one player. “Di Maria asked for a lot of money and preferred to leave to go find it. The club couldn’t give him the money he wanted. They say that I’m the manager of the club; of course, I coach for the club, not for the pla ...
Chicharito will not return to Manchester United once his loan deal at Real Madrid expires next summer. Hernandez was hoping that his move abroad would earn him a place back in the Red Devils' squad for next season, but reports in Spain claim that Van Gaal has no intention of bringing him back to Old Trafford. Instead, the Dutchman is hoping that Chicharito's impressive performances will see his price-tag rise ahead of a permanent exit. Major clubs including Bayern Munich, Roma and Tottenham have all been credited with showing an interest in the 26-year-old, but Real could be tempted to snap up the forward if he proves to be a hit at the Santiago Bernabeu. Mourinho: i may go back to mardrid. the Portuguese trainer left the Champions League holders after three seasons in charge to take over at Chelsea but has hinted that he has unfinished business in Spain Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that he would jump at the chance to return to former club Real Madrid . Mourinho spent three years in the hotseat at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010-13, winning the 2012 Liga title and 2011 Copa Del Rey. However, a failure to secure a Champions League trophy - Real were eliminated in the semi-finals in all three of Mourinho's seasons in charge - ultimately cost the Portuguese coach his job. Chelsea moved to bring Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge quickly and after a third-place finish in a campaign of transition last term, the Blues are red-hot favourites for this season's Premier League title. Though expressing delight at fulfilling a career goal in securing league titles in England, Italy and Spain, Mourinho has suggested he has unfinished business in the Spa ...

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is planning to get Angel Di Maria to convince close friend Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid next summer, Express reports. Ronaldo has been recently linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu after expressing his frustrations with the Real for the way the club allowed Di Maria to leave. The conflict has also alerted Manchester City and Chelsea, with the Blues already putting aside £60million to lure Cristiano Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge instead.

Manchester United striker Chicharito set for Real Madrid loan The Mexico international striker has failed to impress new manager Louis Van Gaal and will look to prove himself at the Santiago Bernabeu, with only personal terms left to confirm Aug 31, 2014 20:11:00 By Alberto Pinero Real Madridare on the verge of completing a season-long loan deal for Manchester Unitedstriker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez,Goalunderstands. Los Blancos had considered moving for both Radamel Falcao of Monaco and Manchester City’s Alvaro Negredo but have decided that the Mexican - who has been told that he is free to leave Old Trafford- represents the best option.
Toni Kroos believes there is a completely different mentality at Real Madrid than the one he was used to at Bayern Munich. The Germany international joined the Santiago Bernabeu side in a deal believed to be worth €25 million and says he is already adapting to his surroundings in Spain - despite discovering a very different approach to the one he became used to at the Allianz Arena. "The mentality here at Madrid is different than at Bayern," Kroos was quoted as saying by Sport Bild. "When training started at 10:30 at Bayern, everybody would be ready to go at 10:30. Things are a bit different here. I got used to it pretty quickly, though. Everything is a bit more relaxed and loose. "I briefly considered using a translator at Madrid, but I didn't like the idea of having someone around me all the time. I can get by using English. And Sami Khedira helped me out with some minor things in the beginning. He was really helpful for me." Kroos then went on to make it clear that he doesn't feel any extra pressure ...
Real Madrid lead Liverpool in race to sign Falcao Liverpool made an approach for Monaco forward Radamel Falcao earlier this week, according to a report, but were told Real Madrid were on the verge of a deal. The Guardian believes that Brendan Rodgers’ side inquired about the possibility of signing the Colombia international, as they look to replace Luis Suarez this summer. However, the paper says that representatives from the French outfit told their Premier League counterparts that Los Blancos were close to signing the goalscorer. It seems now that Falcao’s proposed switch to Santiago Bernabeu will only be a matter of time, despite Carlo Ancelotti’s side signing James Rodriguez and renewing Karim Benzema’s contract.
Monaco have told Real Madrid they will need to pay €90 million [£70m] if they are to sign Colombia's World Cup sensation James Rodriguez. The Ligue 1 club do not want to sell the leading scorer of Brazil 2014 although they have taken heed of James's desire to join Madrid, with the 23-year-old recently stating that he would go to the Spanish capital with his eyes closed. As such Monaco have floated a price of €90m to the Champions League winners, a sum that would place the Colombia international just behind prospective team-mates Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in the list of world-record transfer fees. Manchester United could compete with the big-spending Liga club for James's signature and, while Madrid president Florentino Perez will attempt to negotiate the price down, the numbers are considered viable for a Galactico signing within the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bayern Munich have announced that Toni Kroos has completed his transfer to Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee. The attacking midfielder had long been linked with a move to the Champions League holders and he has now signed a contract with Madrid until the summer of 2020. "We would like to thank Toni for his time at Bayern Munich," said Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on the deal. "We enjoyed some great successes together. We wish him and his family all the best in Madrid and at Real." Bayern were initially keen to hold on to the 24-year-old, yet they put him up for sale after failing to reach an agreement over a contract renewal. Manchester United also showed an interest in signing the Germany international, but Kroos eventually opted against a move to the Premier League giants in favour of Madrid. Kroos, who played a key role in Germany's World Cup win this summer, will be presented to the media and fans on the honorary balcony at the Santiago Bernabeu at 17:00CET on Thursday. The midfielder came thro ...

Arsenal to break bank for another world class German superstar. Mesut Ozil’s connection could play a role in the potential switch… Arsenal are targeting the high profile transfer of Real Madrid enforcer Sami Khedira. The Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger is believed to be willing to fork out a hefty £23 million for the 27 year old, who has only one year remaining on his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. While Khedira may not be a vitally important player for the European Champions, who have plenty of resources at their disposal, the Gunners are in desperate need for an experienced and capable enforcer to protect their back four. The North London club probably reckon that their reasonably hefty bid could seal the deal for Khedira, particularly since the former Stuttgart man might want to follow in the footsteps of his former club teammate and best friend Mesut Ozil. Reports suggest that Ozil’s presence at the Emirates could send across good vibes to Khedira about Arsenal, and we might well see the ...
Manchester United set to sign Ander Herrera: Who is Athletic Bilbao’s £29m midfielder? - In August last year, Athletic Bilbao made their way to the Santiago Bernabeu for their first league game of the season away to Real Madrid. Barca told to pay €70m for Higuain? Napoli won’t consider selling Gonzalo Higuain for less than €70m amid reports of interest in the striker from Barcelona. AS cite claims from Gazzetta dello Sport that say Barca have bid €55m for the former Real Madrid forward but Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis will only let him go for substantially more. Higuain moved to San Paolo from Santiago Bernabeu last summer but speculation has mounted that Barca have identified the Argentina international as the front man to lead the line under Luis Enrique. Napoli paid €40m and got 24 goals in 46 games in return. Higuain has emerged as Barca’s preferred signing after it became clear Sergio Aguero would remain at Manchester City and the move has the backing of Lionel Messi. The clubs announced today they would play a pre-season friendly on August 6, in Geneva, with Higuain mentioned by de Laurentiis as one of the Napoli players who will take part.
Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has admitted he hoped Croatia team-mate Ivan Rakitic would end up at Santiago Bernabeu next season and not Barcelona.
Man United move for Morata Let's begin with the curious rumour that Alvaro Morata is ready to jump ship at Real Madrid to join Manchester United this summer. According to The Daily Star, the 21-year-old has decided to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in pursuit of first-team football which, of course, he's bound to find at a club that already boast Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney in their armoury. Perhaps Morata should give Javier Hernandez a quick call to ask about the squad rotation policy at Old Trafford -- with no European football next season it looks like United's back-up strikers will be given even less playing time. Manuel Queimadelos Alonso/Getty Images Sadly for Real fans, young Alvaro Morata's future might lie outside Madrid. The Spain Under-21 international is also a long-term target for Arsenal and was linked with a loan move to the Emirates Stadium in January. It's thought that Arsene Wenger will rekindle his interest in the forward, but Real Madrid are likely to insist on a buy-back clause sho ...

That moment when football fans around the globe irrespective of their clubs they love but notably Real Madrid fans start branding Jose Mourinho a flop in football management because Carlo Ancelloti succeeded in delivering the Tenth Holy Grail (La Decima) for the Los Merengues where Jose Mourinho failed to in his three year quest at Santiago Bernabeu. But what many have failed to notice or must have remained ignorant of is Jose Mourinho also did a little to help Real Madrid lift the La Decima last night... 1. He stopped Pep Guardiola's Barcelona dominance. 2. He took them to three consecutive semi-finals when they always fail in the early knockout stages prior to Mourinho's appointment. 3. He made Cristiano Ronaldo better 4. He instilled that winning mentality they lacked for some few years back. **You can attest to the fact that this Dortmund and Bayern Munich team they eliminated on their route to the finals were not that strong to the ones Mourinho met during his reign...**

Zinedine Zidane Hails Ronaldo As Greatest He's Ever Played With... Zinedine Zidane says former Brazil star Ronaldo is the best player he ever played with. Real Madrid's assistant coach played alongside the former Inter, Barcelona and Blancos striker during his playing days at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the pair part of the same Madrid side who lifted La Liga back in 2003. In a programme broadcast on French television station Telefoot, Zidane was joined by Roberto Carlos and current Real striker Karim Benzema in showering Ronaldo with praise as they looked back on his glorious career. “The best striker, the best player I’ve ever played with," Zidane said. Benzema added: "He is the best striker of all-time. He knows everything, dribbling, scoring… you have to be inspired by such players. He made me dream and will always make me dream.” Carlos, a former club and international team-mate of Ronaldo's, concluded by revealing how the 37-year-old changed the art of forward play forever. REAL MADRID ROAR POWERFULLY INTO FINAL Real Madrid blew Bayern Munich away to reach the UEFA Champions League final with a 4-0 second leg victory which secured a 5-0 aggregate success. Sergio Ramos took advantage of some woeful marking to head home twice from set pieces in the opening 20 minutes before Cristiano Ronaldo put the finishing touch to a devastating counter-attack in the 34th minute in a blistering opening half from the Spanish giants. Ronaldo added a fourth with a late free-kick and the only downside for Carlo Ancelotti's side, who will face either city rivals Atletico Madrid or Chelsea and former boss Jose Mourinho in the Lisbon final next month, was the needless booking for midfielder Xabi Alonso which rules him out of the showpiece. Pep Guardiola's reigning European Champions had dominated possession in the first leg at Santiago Bernabeu last week, only to leave Spain with a 1-0 deficit after Karim Benzema struck. Any hopes they had of working their way back into the tie were obliterated by ...

The fans' reaction to Real Madrid's arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu: via
The former real madrid club chief criticised the way that the Portuguese acted while in charge at Santiago Bernabeu and praised his successor, Carlo Ancelotti, for his own methods Jose Mourinho's misbehaviour made him the wrong man to be in charge at Real Madrid, according to former club president Ramon Calderon. Mourinho guided Los Blancos to three Champions League semi- finals and won one La Liga title, one Copa Del Rey and one Supercopa de Espana during his three-year spell at Santiago Bernabeu before departing by mutual consent for Chelsea last summer. The Portuguese was constantly at odds with the Spanish press and was rumoured to have irked a number of first-team players in his final campaign at the club, with his benching of Iker Casillas in favour of Diego Lopez a particular sore point among supporters. Madrid snapped up ex-AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti from Paris Saint-Germain to replace him and, with a treble still potentially up for grabs this season, Calderon believes that getting rid of Mour ...

Carlo Ancelotti has said Real Madrid must get off to a confident start at Bayern Munich in Tuesday's Champions League semifinal, second leg, in their quest for a historic win. Real are attempting to claim an historic first win in Munich at the tenth attempt, after eight defeats and a draw, but Madrid hold a 1-0 lead from last Wednesday's first-leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. While Bayern are bidding to reach their third straight final, Real are desperate to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time since 2002 as they chase their tenth European title.
Jose Mourinho better watch out... Atletico Madrid really know how to park the bus They have already done it to Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan this season so it’s little wonder Atletico Madrid fans believe their team can pick up a 1-0 win on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge. If anyone can out-Chelsea Chelsea, then it’s the team with the meanest defence in both La Liga and the Champions LeagueDiego Simeone’s side have won 1-0 nine times this season, managing it at the San Siro and the Santiago Bernabeu. ‘We want to be annoying,’ says the Argentine coach. ‘We want to be a team that no-one can stand playing against.’ Sound familiar? No wonder when Simeone was asked to pick between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho, when both coaches were plying their trade in La Liga alongside him, he plumped for Mourinho. Liverpool had that sinking feeling on Sunday when Demba Ba put Chelsea one up — there were still 45 minutes left but they knew the job in hand was bordering on impossible. In two o ...

Jose Mourinho agrees €60m fee for transfer of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid according to reports the deal is finally signed and sealed The London club have sealed an agreement to sign Diego Costa for a reported €60million this summer. Reports had circulated that Real Madrid were also ready to step in, though the Santiago Bernabeu outfit have since reportedly thrown in the towel after coming to terms with the alleged existing agreement between the Rojiblancos and Chelsea. The Spanish press claim that Roman Abramovic gave Mourinho the green light after watching Costa terrorise La Liga defences, and Chelsea have since accepted to pay a €60million clause which was recently put into place by the Atletico directors.

Kevin Ericson and I had a great day and a half going to Madrid. We did more things in that short of time than one can imagine. Once in Madrid we took the metro to where our hotel was. Funny thing is when we asked people where the hotel was nobody knew even when we were only 50 yards from it. Once we found the hotel we were off to find churros and chocolate in one of the best churrerias in Madrid. We took a break in Puerta de Sol to watch a Cuban magician that was fantastic and super funny. We found the churro shop and after that we went to the Plaza Mayor and ate lunch. From there Kevin wanted to go tour the Holy Grail of soccer, Santiago Bernabeu Stadium where Real Madrid plays their games. After getting back to the hotel for Kevin to rest, I headed down to the Royal Palace to take some photos. We then ate and went to the Atletico de Madrid soccer game against Granada. They solidified their 1st place position by winning 1-0. The metro was packed coming home, but it was worth it. This morning before comin ...

Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos both felt that the performance of referee Undiano Mallenco at the Santiago Bernabeu was evidence of a conspiracy against Los Blancos Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has advised Real Madrid's players to stop moaning about the officiating in Sunday's Clasico loss to Barcelona, claiming that they are doing nothing other than wasting their own time and energy. Despite winning and converting a penalty given for a Dani Alves foul that took place outside the area, Cristiano Ronaldo launched a scathing attack on Undiano Mallenco after the game, claiming that the referee, who awarded the Blaugrana two spot-kicks, was "not at the required level". The Portuguese also hinted at a conspiracy against Madrid, a claim that was supported by team-mate Sergio Ramos, who declared the official's decisions - which included his dismissal for a professional foul - were "pre-meditated". However, Cerezo, whose side now top the Liga table on account of their superior head-to-head record a ...
REAL SHAME MARK II! SEVILLA SORT OUT REAL MADRID! There could have been referee Undiano Malenko controversies when Barcelona beat sorry Real Madrid on Sunday at Santiago Bernabeu but no such excuses last night as Carlos Bacca scored twice to propel Sevilla to a sweet 2-1 victory over Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo had given Real a false start before Bacca condemned the illustrious visitors to a bitter second defeat in three days. No such difficulties for on form big town rivals Atletico Madrid who made short work of Granada with red hot Diego Costa securing a 1-0 win. Barcelona moved to within a point of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga as they twice came from behind thanks to a Lionel Messi hat-trick to edge a thrilling El Clasico 4-3 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
By Ben Hayward | Spanish Football Writer TheClasicois back. Real Madrid and Barcelona battle it out once again in the famous fixture on Sunday, this time with La Liga at stake and, as usual, their hopes rest respectively upon the shoulders of the world's two finest footballers: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Cristiano and Leo meet for the 21st time in aClasicoclash since the Portuguese moved to Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 for what promises to be another intriguing installment of the pair's compelling conflict. But which of the two has peformed better in their meetings over the past five seasons? There was little joy for Ronaldo in his first campaign in Spain. The Portuguese returned from injury to face Barcelona at Camp Nou in La Liga, but Manuel Pellegrini's side lost out to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic volley in a tight encounter and Messi netted the opener in the Primera Division clash at the Santiago Bernabeu later in the season as Pep Guardiola's side won 2-0. Many of Europe's classic sides have been built upon a core trio of key players and Goal takes a trip down memory lane to recall some of those famous link-ups By Miles Chambers Real Madrid have the most expensive attacking trident on the planet this season following the €100 million signing of Gareth Bale. SPECIAL REPORT By Ben Hayward | Spanish Football Writer Barcelona were forced to make a coaching change in the summer, with Vilanova taking time off to recover from cancer and Gerardo Martino brought in as his replacement. But had things been different, instead of an Argentine in the Camp Nou hotseat, it could have been a Chilean: Manuel Pellegrini. Barca have long admired Pellegrini and kept tabs on the South American during his successful spell at Villarreal between 2004 and 2009. Indeed, the Catalan club considered the Chilean as a potential replacement for Frank Rijkaard as the Dutchman's tenure finally flickered out in 2008. In the end, however, Barca opted to promote Pep Guardiola to the top job at Camp Nou and, a year later, Pellegrini moved to the other side of the Clasico divide as he joined Real Madrid. Identified by sporting director Jorge Valdano as the man to lead the second Florentino Perez project at the Santiago Bernabeu, Pellegrini steered Madrid to their then highest-ever points total in ...

Brazil legend Ronaldo has backed Barcelona forward Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d'Or for a fifth straight year. The Argentine has slipped to third-favourite to win the Fifa accolade with the bookies, behind Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo and Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery. But the former Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabeu striker suggested Messi can take home the award once again and tipped the Argentine to come back strong from his current injury, which has seen him sidelined for the remainder of 2013. FROM FORREST GUMP TO THE PRINCE OF WALES "I'm learning from the best" said Gareth Bale on Saturday night as he carried the match ball out of the Santiago Bernabeu. By "best" he meant his team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo. The grounded talk of a determination to keep on improving spoke volumes for a player who, having recently broken the world transfer record aged 24, could easily have decided he had nothing left to learn.
