Guardiola: Torres perfect for Atletico The coach lauded Diego Simeone's decision to bring the former club captain back to the Vicente Calderon and believes they pose a threat to Bayern's Champions League chances By Miles Chambers Jan 16, 2015 23:36:00 Former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola believes that Atletico Madrid have hit the jackpot by bringing Fernando Torres back to the Vicente Calderon. Torres left La Liga for Liverpool in 2007, one year before Guardiola famously took the reins at Camp Nou, and returned earlier this month on loan from AC Milan having flopped at San Siro and Chelsea before that. Football pundits and fans were split over whether Torres would burden another club with his lack of goals, but he stunned arch-rivals Real Madrid on Thursday by scoring a double to knock the holders out of the Copa Del Rey at the last-16 stage. Guardiola, who now coaches Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, believes that the Spain international is perfectly suited to life under Diego Simeone's wing in Madrid. ...
Lionel Messi is worth €87 million more than Cristiano Ronaldo , according to research within the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) in Switzerland. The 27-year-old attacker has won four Ballons d'Or in his career so far and skippered Argentina to the World Cup final last year, winning the Golden Ball award for being the Best Player in the process. Like Ronaldo with Real Madrid, Messi has a contract with Barcelona until June 2018, although reports have been circulating in recent weeks that he might swap Camp Nou for Chelsea due to discontent in Catalunya. But Chelsea will know Messi will not be cheap: the Football Observatory, a research group within CIES, suggest Messi currently has a valuation of €220m. Ronaldo is next in the list, valued at €133m, while world- record signing Gareth Bale sits in 10th with an estimated net worth of €60m to the Santiago Bernabeu club. Chelsea have three players in the top 10: Eden Hazard is rated at €99m in third spot just ahead of fourth-placed Diego ...

Messi took centre stage after Luis Suarez netted his first Barca goal as the Catalan giants coasted to a 4-0 Group F victory in Nicosia. The mercurial Messi became the top scorer in La Liga history with a treble in a 5-1 hammering of Sevilla on Saturday and the Argentina talisman revelled in his latest milestone. "Achieving this record in a competition like this is a wonderful thing. But, beyond that it was a very important game," said Messi, who now has 74 Champions League goals. After failing to join the Blaugrana this past summer, Cuadrado has sparked the interest of their arch-rivals Real Madrid. According to Barcelona-based newspaper Sport, Barcelona are awaiting word on if CAS will reduce their transfer ban, but as it stands right now, they have created a wishlist with their top three transfer priorities for next summer; Atlético Madrid’s Koke, Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender and Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado, who was close to making a move to the Camp Nou last summer but the deal never materialised as the star didn't want to play at right back. Real Madrid, in light of Barcelona’s current inability to even consider making a bid, have contacted Cuadrado’s representatives and the club over a possible move, but the Colombian international has responded that he prefers to wait to see the fate of Barcelona and allow other clubs to position themselves. Fc Barcelona and Cuadrado had already agreed to a five-year contract last summer and everything looked set to go ahead, but ...
10 days; 10 football controversies. Day 3- The Luis Figo "Betrayal" Luís Filipe Madeira Caeiro Figois a retired Portuguese footballer. He played as a winger for Sporting CP, Fc Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Internazionale before retiring from football on 31 May 2009. He won 127 caps for the Portugal national football team. Figo is one of the few football players to have played for both Spanish rival clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid. His controversial 2000 transfer from Barcelona to bitter rivals Real Madrid set a world record fee of £37 million. It was a startling protest, and one that drew its inspiration from one of sport's great betrayals - a rancorous transfer the likes of which have rarely been seen in football. Figo's decision to swap Barcelona for Madrid in the summer of 2000 dented the pride of a region and plunged Barca supporters into a state of despair. He was the darling of Camp Nou, even considering the claims of Rivaldo, with his masterful performances across five years in the Barca midfield ...

After a terrific start to the new Liga season, the Blaugrana have slipped from first to fourth on the back of consecutive defeats away to Real Madrid and at home to Celta. There have been reports within the Spanish press of key players being disgruntled with the starting line-up and tactics for the 3-1 loss at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, Bartomeu does not believe that two successive setbacks is any cause for concern and remains adamant that Luis Enrique is the right man for the job. He has defined an era, along with his arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo, and become one of the greatest sporting icons of all time, winning six Liga titles, two Copa Del Reys and three Champions Leagues. [THE GREATEST QUOTES ABOUT Lionel Messi] As he celebrates a decade in the game, here are the 10 moments which made Messi the superstar he is today. The legend begins: Everything started on October 16, 2004 in a league match against Espanyol, when a player aged just 17 years, three months and 22 days entered the field of play as a substitute for Deco. Messi was wearing the No. 30 shirt with his future No. 10 jersey still being occupied by the great Ronaldinho. That first goal: It took seven and a half months for Messi to score his first goal for Barcelona and it came against Albacete at Camp Nou on May 1, 2005. Ronaldinho scooped a pass over the t ...

Uruguay international Suarez, who arrived at the Camp Nou from Liverpool in the summer, was banned from football for four months after biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup but has been allowed to train with his club teammates and play international friendlies after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Uruguayan media said Suarez was "far from his best" as he made his first international appearance since being banned for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup. He played 69 minutes of the friendly against Saudi Arabia, setting up the opening goal in a 1-1 draw when his volley came back off the post and went in off a defender for an own goal, and scored twice in the 3-0 friendly win in Oman on Monday. BREAKING NEWS.. Via EUROSPORT Barcelona are in advanced negotiations to complete the signing of England's World Cup bete noire Luis Suarez from Liverpool, reports in Spain claim. After a season without silverware, the Catalan club are desperately looking for a top new star to give the supporters at the Camp Nou fresh hope. Last summer they spent around £80m on Neymar and now, according to Mundo Deportivo, are ready to make a similar move for the Liverpool and Uruguay star. Luis Enrique's side have also recently been linked with Sergio Aguero, Marco Reus and Gonzalo Higuain but Mundo Deportivo claims Suarez is their real top target this summer. The paper understands that when Suarez signed a new deal on Merseyside last season, Liverpool agreed to the inclusion of an €85m (£67m, $115m) release clause which could be reduced to €65m (£52m) should Real Madrid or Barcelona express an interest. The Catalan newspaper claims on its front page that talks on a deal -- made up of £30m plus Alexis Sanchez --- ...

Fabregas seals Chelsea switch 12 June 2014 Chelsea have signed Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas on a five-year deal from Barcelona. Fabregas, currently away with his national side at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, returns to the Premier League after a three-year stay at Camp Nou. The 27-year-old joined the Catalan giants from Arsenal in 2011, and won La Liga in 2013, as well as the Copa Del Rey 12 months earlier. Fabregas' final season in Spain ended in disappointment as Barca finished the campaign second behind Atletico Madrid, having failed to beat Diego Simeone's men on the final day when a victory would have seen them crowned champions. Manchester United had reportedly also been mulling over a deal for the midfielder, while Arsenal turned down the chance to take up a first option on him. However, Fabregas will instead move to Stamford Bridge, linking up with Former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho. Uefa Champions League: CLASH OF THE TITANS IN LISBON AS TWO MADRID TEAMS CLASH IN FINAL! Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Yes! This is the day we've all been waiting for. The attention of the entire footballing world will be firmly focused on one place tonight - The Estadio da Luz in Portugal where Real Madrid will be going into the Mother of all battles with city rivals Atletico Madrid to determine who rule Europe. The Atleti will be riding a on wave of momentum, having just clinched their first La Liga title since 1996 in grand style, right inside the packed Camp Nou in front of over 95,000 vociferous crowd, but they'll be taking on a team obsessed with winning the Champions League for the first time since 2002. Los Blancos hold the edge in the season series, beating the Atleti twice and losing just once before their final meeting ended in a tie, back in March. Cristiano Ronaldo who has been troubled with a hamstring for a couple of weeks is said to be fit for this clash. But Pepe and Karim Benzema are in ...
The most important game of a season or a career can be stolen by a yellow card. Xabi Alonso will miss the Champions League final in Lisbon. It is a painful tradition, at odds with the sense of occasion, and others to have fallen foul are Franco Baresi, Claudio Caniggia, Rafael Gordillo, Antonio Maceda, Michael Ballack, Pavel Nedved and Dani Alves. Maceda and Gordillo missed the European Championship final in 1984 between France and Spain. Roy Keane and Paul Scholes were not involved in the Camp Nou miracle comeback in 1999 against Bayern. "It was the worst experience of my career", the Irishman recalled. Amedeo Carboni has experienced similar loss. The Italian full-back was booked for Valencia against Barcelona and missed the 2000 Champions League final against Real Madrid. "The world caves in on you. I thought I was not going to get another chance and I did get it the following year. I don't understand how Michel Platini, who was a footballer, doesn't change the rule. It is absurd, it is not a red card. ...
Saturday night promises to be one of world football's classic battles as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid face off in Lisbon, Portugal. Both sides have been superb in the Champions League this season and thoroughly deserve their places in the final. Atletico enter as the new champions of Spain after their draw in the Camp Nou, while Real will be looking to win yet another European Cup and further their reputation as the continent's most successful club side. Here, I have taken my time to look at both teams' recent form and the key battles that will decide the destination of the Champions League trophy. Both Madrid teams have felt the heat and pressure of the last few weeks of the season, struggling to produce their best form. Atletico's dogs-of-war approach has suffered, with the team only managing one win in their last four games. Recent draws against Barcelona and Malaga were just enough to earn them the La Liga title and get them over the finish line, but two points from a possible nine is hardly the fo ...

Atletico Madrid are genuine contenders for the Uefa Champions League trophy, judging from the ways they humbled a trophy hungry Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the ease with which they earned a draw at the Camp Nou against a determined Barcelona side that had a season of trophylessness staring them in the face. Their consistency and dynamism worry me, and I urge Real Madrid to not take them for granted come 24th May. Madrid must not miss this once-in-a-decade opportunity to lift this season's trophy. We will not forgive them especially after missing the opportunity to win the La Liga.
Real Madrid-Espanyol Preview: Ancelotti's men face Champions League final warm-up Real Madrid end their Liga season against Espanyol on Saturday - but all eyes will be on another capital versus Catalunya clash at Camp Nou. A run of three games without victory has ended any hopes Real had of winning La Liga, so their meeting with Javier Aguirre's side represents little more than an undercard clash ahead of the title-deciding bout between their arch-rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, which kicks off two hours later. Carlo Ancelotti's men have taken just two points from their last three league fixtures, meaning they have gone more than two Liga games without winning for the first time since May 2009. Real's poor run of domestic form has followed their stunning 4-0 Champions League semi-final second-leg demolition of Bayern Munich. And it is safe to say Ancelotti will now have more than one eye on next Saturday's Champions League showpiece with neighbours Atletico, when Real go in search of their long-awai ...

Real Madrid could sign Lionel Messi, claims Hugo Sanchez. Barcelona are in danger of pushing superstar Lionel Messi into the hands of their biggest rivals Real Madrid, warns former La Liga star Hugo Sanchez. There are growing murmurs emerging from Camp Nou that Messi is no longer happy at the Catalan club after being carelessly looked after by the club's staff. Messi has struggled with injury this term and many believe the pressure on him to perform has been too great, leading to his discontent. Real Madrid legend, Sanchez, says that Barcelona are in a very vulnerable position this summer and could see bids coming in for the Argentine from a number of clubs - including Real Madrid. "Messi is not feeling valued highly enough by Barcelona with his contract and they must be careful." "If Barca are careless, I can see Real Madrid signing him." Transfers between the Nou Camp and the Bernabeu are understandably rare. The last player to do so was Javier Saviola, who swapped Catalonia for the Spanish capital in 2 ...

Bernabéu will demand more from Real after two defeats Real Madrid are In the line of fire The Santiago Bernabéu will be close to a full house on Saturday and the home side will be under the microscope after two defeats in the last two games. To begin with at least, it is expected that the players' names will be cheered when the teams are called out. Carlo Ancelotti can't expect the same treatment after being booed when the team lost in the first meeting of the season against Barça in the Camp Nou. When the game kicks off, all eyes in the stadium will focus on how the team plays, focusing on three players in particular - Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Diego López, who are all under suspicion for different reasons. The Welshman has not quite hit form since his arrival and his change of boots on Wednesday when Sevilla were on the attack and eventually scored has not gone down well. Victor Valdes expressed his delight as Barcelona's defiant Clasico win over Real Madrid rejuvanted their title challenge, but just three days later his Camp Nou career is over and with it his hopes of turning out for Spain at the World Cup in Brazil. He had been desperate to leave the club on his own terms, and pained to remain faithful to his pre-defined date of departure. Now, he has been denied that opportunity, and one of Barcelona's finest-ever players won't be allowed to enjoy the fitting send-off his career merited. Against Celta Vigo at Camp Nou, Valdes fell awkwardly after saving a Fabian Orellana free-kick at the second attempt and it soon became apparent that he was in real ...
Barcelona seal Halilovic (Mini Messi) deal. The Croatian starlet will join from Dinamo Zagreb and has agreed a five-year contract at Camp Nou, the Spanish champions have confirmed. Barcelona have confirmed the signing of rising star Alen Halilovic from Dinamo Zagreb. The attacking midfielder has long been on the radar of a number of major European clubs, with Manchester City among those credited with an interest in the past, before Barca stepped up their interest in the player earlier this season after sending a delegation to Croatia to thrash out a deal. The reigning Liga champions have now finally won the race for the 17-year-old's signature, agreeing a five-year contract with the Dinamo academy product for an initial fee of €2.2 million, which could yet rise based on incentives. "It's difficult to find the words to describe how I feel," Halilovic told Barca's official website. "Many thanks to Dinamo, who will always remain with me as my first love and as the club where I first began to realise my dre ...
I was wrong about Cristiano Ronaldo. I believed that Ronaldo is a brilliant player, who does his fair share of play acting, but that's fine because lots of players do that. I thought CR7 had a passion for football, an acceptable mentality, and a vision for fair play. I had respect for him and I called him the second best after Messi and one of the best ever. He proved me wrong. He proved in his last press talk that he is a hypocrite loser who is too butthurt to accept defeat and talks about Barca's penalties whereas his own penalty was the worst decision of the three. Last year, referee Undanio Mallenco was responsible for officiating an El Clasico at the Camp Nou in the second leg of a Copa Del Rey tie. In that match, February 26, 2013, which I call the darkest day in football, Real Madrid seemed to have the referee to them. This same guy, Mallenco. He ignored clear fouls on Pedro, Messi, Fabregas, and also the referee himself came in front of Pedro and blocked him off from a pure goalscoring opportunity ...
By Ben Hayward | Spanish Football Writer TheClasicois back. Real Madrid and Barcelona battle it out once again in the famous fixture on Sunday, this time with La Liga at stake and, as usual, their hopes rest respectively upon the shoulders of the world's two finest footballers: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Cristiano and Leo meet for the 21st time in aClasicoclash since the Portuguese moved to Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 for what promises to be another intriguing installment of the pair's compelling conflict. But which of the two has peformed better in their meetings over the past five seasons? There was little joy for Ronaldo in his first campaign in Spain. The Portuguese returned from injury to face Barcelona at Camp Nou in La Liga, but Manuel Pellegrini's side lost out to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic volley in a tight encounter and Messi netted the opener in the Primera Division clash at the Santiago Bernabeu later in the season as Pep Guardiola's side won 2-0. The teams' next meeting was much ...

Racing towards the 'Clásico' How things have changed. At this stage in the first half of the season, Real Madrid came away from the Camp Nou, defeated, six points behind Barcelona, and five behind Atlético de Madrid, looking like a deflated balloon flying hither and thither through the league with no apparent direction. And now Carlo Ancelotti's team are the leaders of the Liga BBVA, have gone 30 games without defeat in all competitions and have overtaken their rivals in the steep 38-Alpine-bend course that is the Spanish league. In the eighteen matchdays that there have been since the last 'Clasico' and this one, Real Madrid have won fifteen of them and drawn three, reaping a total of 48 points - ten more than Barcelona and eight more than Atlético de Madrid. Real Madrid have a new road map, flipped on the turbo, picking up momentum and cruising past the other two teams fighting with them for the league leadership , both having lost their dependability to some extent. In attack, Real Madrid are a veri ...
Barcelona have rubbished reports that coach Gerardo Martino could quit the club to take the Argentina national job. Martino has come under pressure in recent weeks, with Barca's La Liga title defence stuttering badly after three defeats in quick succession. Losses to Valencia, Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid in their last seven games have left the champions four points off Real Madrid, though the sides will contest El Clasico on Sunday, with Barca desperate for points. With the added weight of the Camp Nou job reportedly getting to the Argentinian, talk of his departure has mounted, but Barca's marketing vice-president Manuel Arroyo was quick to downplay such rumours at a press conference on Monday. He said: "We found out a few minutes ago that this news was emanating from somewhere. "We don't support it, Tata (Martino) is contracted to the club and in this week that is so important to us he is dedicated to Barca. "We asked him and he has flat out denied it. He has not spoken to anyone, including his st ...
NEWS: Record-Breaker, Messi Stars in Barca Victory Barcelona returned to winning ways in La Liga with a 7-0 demolition of Osasuna at Camp Nou on Sunday. Gerardo Martino's men had bounced back from last weekend's shock defeat at Real Valladolid with a Uefa Champions League win over Manchester City on Wednesday. And the reigning Spanish champions also put their league assault back on track with Lionel Messi the central figure in a comprehensive win. The Argentinian's hat-trick saw him move ahead of Paulino Alcantara to become Barcelona's all-time leading goalscorer, with the latter's record of 369 having included goals in friendlies. Alexis Sanchez, Andres Iniesta, Cristian Tello and Pedro were also on target as Barca moved back to within four points of leaders Real Madrid ahead of next weekend's Clasico at the Bernabeu.
Champions League Match of the Day Barcelona 3 Real Madrid 3 The two Spanish giants clashed tonight in round three of the Champions League and what a game it was at the Camp Nou. The home side attacked from the kick off with skilful Cory O'Brien and Cathal Sheehan to the fore they created chances but found the Real keeper Ben Foley in outstanding form bringing of a series of top class saves. The home side made the breakthrough when Shane O'Keeffe skipped clear of the defence and finished neatly. However real hit back immediately when Fortune fired home from close range. It was end to end stuff now and Ryan O'Connell put Barca back in front only for Josh Dungan to equalise almost immediately. Real's Ruadhri McGarrity and Joel Dixon were now driving Barca forward but came up against strong defending by Divine Ehuchie and great goalkeeping from Mark Lednus. Shane scored what looked like the winner for Barca with 3 minutes left only for Declan Holden to equalise with the last kick of the game. What an exciting ...
Lionel Messi says Barcelona were back to their best on Wednesday night as they beat Manchester City 2-1 to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals. Messi was in fine form throughout the game and opened the scoring in the first-half as the Catalan giants defeated Manuel Pellegrini's side in Camp Nou, winning 4-1 on aggregate. Despite reaching the last-eight of club football's most prestigious competition, the Blaugrana have come under a lot of criticism as they have slipped four points behind league leaders Real Madrid in La Liga. Speaking after the game, Messi said Barca deserved the victory against the Premier League club and feels his side's performance was of the level people have come to expect of them in recent years. "We defeated a very difficult rival," he told Canal+. "After two very serious slip-ups [in the league] when we didn’t play well, today we saw the Barcelona that people expect to see. “We played well throughout and achieved our objective of getting through. “Despite their g ...
Barcelona beats City to reach quarter finals. Lionel Messi Breaks Record for Most Champions League Goals for Single Club The Barcelona superstar scored his 67th career Champions League goal in the 67th minute of Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Manchester City, breaking Raul's record for most with a single club, per Tom Dutton of The London Evening Standard. Messi is still four goals away from matching the all-time record set by Raul, the longtime Real Madrid star who also has the third-most Champions League appearances in history. The Spaniard scored 66 goals with Madrid before adding five during a late-career stint with Schalke 04. Messi should have no trouble surpassing Raul either this season or the next, and given his status as Barcelona's club cornerstone, he should blow the single-team record out of the water. The Argentine national's goal helped Barcelona claim a spot in the Champions League quarterfinal, taking a dominant 4-1 aggregate before a roaring Camp Nou crowd. With the score tied at 0-0 deep ...

Valencia stun Barcelona at Camp Nou !!! Valencia snatched a shock 3-2 win at 10-man Barcelona, dealing a huge title blow to Tata Martino’s side. Barcelona seemed to be cruising after Alexis Sanchez’s sublime 7th-minute chip, dominating possession until Dani Parejo exploited terrible defending to equalise just before half-time. Pablo Piatti added a second early in the second half as Valencia again hit Barca on the counter, but the hosts were given a lifeline whenRicardo Costa was incorrectly penalised for handball in the box. The ball clearly struck the Valencia captain’s shoulder, and with his arm by his side it was a dreadful decision. Lionel Messi equalised from the spot, his first Liga goal since September. But Valencia would not be denied as Paco Alcacer converted the excellent Sofiane Feghouli’s low cross, with Jordi Alba’s dismissal for a second yellow card forcing Barca to play the final 13 minutes with 10 men. The result means both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid can overtake Barcelona a ...
Sergio Busquets admitted that Barcelona's 3-2 defeat against Valencia could hand the initiative to Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid on Sunday. The Catalans took the lead through Alexis Sanchez but goals from Dani Parejo, Pablo Piatti and Paco Alcacer ended a run of 25 straight league wins at Camp Nou for Barca, who earned a consolation through a Lionel Messi penalty shortly before Jordi Alba was sent off.
Barça and Atlético reign in Cup quarters Holders Atlético de Madrid set up a mouthwatering Copa Del Rey semi-final with city rivals Real Madrid after beating Athletic Bilbao 2-1 on Wednesday to win 3-1 on aggregate. Barcelona also assured their place in the last four with a 5-1 victory over Levante at the Camp Nou to seal a 9-2 rout on aggregate. In Bilbao, Aritz Aduriz had powered the hosts into a deserved lead four minutes before half-time and Athletic were only denied a bigger advantage at the break by two outstanding saves from Thibaut Courtois. However, Atlético regrouped at the break and levelled 10 minutes after the restart when Raul Garcia smashed home Emiliano Insua's cross. Diego Costa sealed their passage into the last four in the final stages as he slotted home his first goal of 2014 on the counter-attack to inflict Athletic Bilbao's first ever defeat at their San Mames ground, which they have used since the start of the season. Atlético will travel to the Santiago Bernabéu, where they b ...
Neymar's father: Barcelona paid €10m in 2011 The Blaugrana forward's parent gave an agitated and muddling media appearance on Tuesday, insisting that his son could have made him even more money by leaving Santos in 2014 By Miles Chambers Jan 28, 2014 8:59:00 PM Neymar's father has defended the €10 million downpayment that Barcelona gave his company three years ago to get preferential treatment in bidding for the forward. The Blaugrana beat Real Madrid to the signature of the Brazil international, now 21, whose summer transfer caused chaos at Camp Nou last week, with Sandro Rosell resigning as club president amid a judicial investigation into the legitimacy of the deal. On Tuesday, Neymar Sr admitted that Barca gave him €10m in 2011. This was a portion of the €40m they paid him overall to ensure the Catalans would receive a first option in any transfer, but he insisted he had not broken the law with the secret agreement. The loan payment would have been repaid if Neymar had not joined Barcelona, he ...

Unsurprisingly, those three teams feature heavily in Goal 's Liga Team of the Season so far. In goal is Victor Valdes . Brazil legend Ronaldo has backed Barcelona forward Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d'Or for a fifth straight year. The Argentine has slipped to third-favourite to win the Fifa accolade with the bookies, behind Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo and Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery. But the former Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabeu striker suggested Messi can take home the award once again and tipped the Argentine to come back strong from his current injury, which has seen him sidelined for the remainder of 2013. "I think Messi will win the Ballon d'Or again," Ronaldo is quoted as saying by Marca. "Messi has spent the last five years playing so many matches and he is the biggest star in world football. Now, this injury isn't serious, but maybe resting will allow him to recharge his batteries." Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or twice in his career - for his performances in 1997 and in 2002.

3 years since Real Madrid with Mourinho were humiliated at the Camp Nou losing 5-0:
With Helenio Herrera as manager, a young Luis Suárez, the European Footballer of the Year in 1960, and two influential Hungarians recommended by Kubala, Sándor Kocsis and Zoltán Czibor, the team won another national double in 1959 and a La Liga and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup double in 1960. In 1961 they became the first club to beat Real Madrid in European Cup competition, but lost 3–2 to Benfica in the final.[34][35][36] The 1960s were less successful for the club, with Real Madrid monopolising La Liga. The building of the Camp Nou, completed in 1957, meant the club had little money to spend on new players.[36] On the positive side, the decade saw the emergence of Josep Maria Fusté and Carles Rexach, and the club won the Copa del Generalísimo in 1963 and the Fairs Cup in 1966. Barça restored some of its former pride by beating Real Madrid 1–0 in the 1968 Copa del Generalísimo final at the Bernabéu, in front of Franco, with former republican pilot Salvador Artigas as manager. The end of Franco's d ...

Xavi, Iniesta facing Clasico bench role Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino has hinted he may leave either Xavi or Andres Iniesta on the bench for Saturday's Clasico against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou. • Lowe: Neymar and Bale debuts• Cox: Busquets is key component• Hunter: Ancelotti's fortune With centre-half Gerard Pique passed fit and included in the squad for the game, Martino’s biggest decision is now whether to bring Cesc Fabregas back into the team, and if so whether to leave out one of his other World Cup-winning midfielders. The Argentine admitted at Friday evening’s pre-game news conference that he had already made the call in his head, and given Barca's squad depth he sometimes had to be unfair to some individuals. "There is a possibility that the three could play the game, or one could be left out, as always," Martino said. "I had the team for the game decided before Milan. Players who have that level, it is not usual, they would not be left out of any other team. But this is Barca, so i ...

CAMP NOU Kids get in free except for big matches Barcelona announced yesterday its project to continue allowing children into the Camp Nou for free, thereby ending the controversy surrounding the board’s decision that put an end to the tradition of allowing the children and grandchildren of members into the ground without a ticket. They will be allowed to do so in every game of the season except league matches against Real Madrid and Atlético, the Champions League quarter-finals and semi-finals, or the Spanish Cup and Spanish Super Cup semi-finals. In every other match, children under eight, as long as they are members or the children or grandchildren of members, will be allowed into the ground without paying but with a ticket. The club plans to set aside a minimum of 3,000 tickets of this type for every game.
Carlo Ancelotti says his Real Madrid players are confident ahead of Saturday’s trip to Barcelona, given their good record at the Camp Nou during Jose Mourinho’s final seasons in charge.!!!
The cachet of the Spanish Clasico has long been attractive to UK football supporters. When Gary Lineker scored a trio of goals for Barcelona against Real Madrid in January 1987's renewal, it was clear back home that this was a heroic achievement by an Englishman in another country's biggest fixture. By that point, a number of Brits had played in Spain. Terry Venables' coaching tenure from 1984 to 1987 at the Camp Nou had increased interest, and by the time satellite TV made continental football more accessible in the 1990s, knowledge of the Spanish game had widened. Foreign stars like Juergen Klinsmann and Eric Cantona had made their mark in England by then, but a glance at Spain's biggest match was a window on even greater exotica -- Davor Suker versus Luiz Ronaldo, for example during the 1996-97 season. At times it seemed like two World XI sides were taking each other on, a thread that continues to the present day. This Saturday evening, for example, the domestic television audience will be far more fam ...

ELCASICO.THE STORY SO FAR: Fc Barcelona have scored, shot on target and possessed the ball more than Real Madrid But look out for Madrid in the last quarter of an hour - and they're also comeback kings They do say that it matters not a hoot what kind of form Barça and Real Madrid have shown prior to a clásico. In these games, the formbook goes out of the proverbial window. But it doesn’t hurt to have a glance at their recent form ahead of the clash of giants at the Camp Nou. So here we analyse their stats in the first nine games of the Liga season. • Barça getting the goals. Not only have FCB scored the most goals out of all 20 teams in the first division, but they have also leaked the fewest. Real Madrid are third on both counts, each time a place below Atletico, with 19 goals for and nine against. • FCB taking the chances. Fc Barcelona is the most effective team in the tournament, having turned 22.4% of their shots into goals, followed by Atlético Madrid (19.1%) and Villarreal (17.4%). Real Ma ...
Guys, the date of the first el Classico has been revealed! Real Madrid and Barcelona will meet for the first time this season on Saturday, October 26 at 18:00 CET at Camp Nou, the LFP announced. The time was made official on Monday afternoon, and it will serve as the 10th league match of the season for each team. It is the first Clasico for both coaches - Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti and Barcelona's Gerardo Martino - while it is also a first taste for Barca's Neymar and Los Blancos' Gareth Bale, Isco, Asier Illarramendi and Daniel Carvajal.
Television viewers tuning in to Saturday night’s Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid will be left in the dark for the first 15 minutes of the game because of British broadcasting regulations. Sky Sports Two will start screening their live coverage of the 5pm kick-off Camp Nou clash at 5.15pm, after five minutes of build-up. It’s because of a long-standing regulation in the UK that football cannot be screened live on television between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on a Saturday afternoon. The rule was introduced when live television coverage of matches became commonplace as authorities were concerned televised 3pm kick-offs would have a detrimental effect on attendances. Despite the game being played in Spain, the rules cannot be broken. The match, one of the most anticipated in world football, features what is quite possibly the most expensively assembled cast in football history. Real Madrid will field the two most expensive signings ever in £86million Gareth Bale and £80million Cristiano Ronaldo. Barce ...
Madrid and Barca in debts? Saturday's clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou is not just the meeting of Spain's biggest teams. Depending on who you believe it is either the coming together of the two richest sporting institutions in the world, or a game between two clubs in which mounting financial issues are being willfully ignored. Madrid president Florentino Perez often commends his own economic stewardship of the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu club, and again spoke of how he had (twice) saved it from a financial abyss when he addressed the club's annual Asamblea in late September. "It is now nine consecutive years of revenue growth, and our figures are the highest in the global sports industry," a beaming Perez said. "There is no club, not in football or any other sport, which can reach this figure. Even Forbes magazine has laid down before us." Whatever about Forbes, the socios who attended were impressed -- approving the club's official accounts for the 2012-13 financial year by an ext ...

Andres Iniesta : MADRID'S DECISION TO SELL Mesut Ozil SURPRISED ME The Spain international feels Los Blancos were wrong to offload the German, while at the same time arguing that there is no chance of Iker Casillas moving to Camp Nou. Barcelona star Andres Iniesta has admitted that Real Madrid's decision to sell Mesut Ozil to Arsenal came as a big surprise to him. The Germany international had developed into an important first team member at the Santiago Bernabeu side since joining them from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2010, but Madrid opted to cash in on the attacking midfielder this summer after strengthening their squad with Isco and Gareth Bale. "I was very surprised that Madrid let Ozil leave because he understands football better than any one else," Iniesta told Onda Cero. "They will have had their reasons to let him go, though." The 29-year-old then went on to discuss the potential arrival of Iker Casillas and Pepe Reina in 2014, with Barcelona currently preparing for life after goalkeeper Victo ...

Barcelona should sell Lionel Messi. So said Johan Cruyff earlier this week, claiming the Catalan club cannot accommodate both the Argentine and summer signing Neymar in the same side next season. Back in the real world, however, Barca fans need not worry: selling Messi is as far from anyone's mind at Camp Nou as changing the club colours to all white. Cruyff's opinions seems strange: his own Barcelona side was filled with superstars such as Hristo Stoichkov, Romario and Michael Laudrup and, although problems did arise, this was usually in conflict with the coach himself. And that team - the Dream Team - went on to achieve great things, becoming the first Barca side to clinch a European Cup (in 1992) and winning four straight Liga titles (between 1991 and 1994) following a prolonged period of dominance by Real Madrid. On Sunday, with Messi missing, Barcelona fans will be given a glimpse of their latest Dream Team as new man Neymar and Dani Alves of Brazil square up to Spain's nine Blaugrana representatives ...
Mourinho's eye-gouge on Tito reaches Spanish Constitutional Court! A complaint filed by a Barcelona-based law firm against Former Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, on the grounds that gouging the eye of then Barça assistant Tito Vilanova represented a public-order offence, has now reached Spain's Constitutional Court. After a brawl erupted in the second leg of the 2011 Spanish Super Cup, on 17th August at the Camp Nou, Real Madrid's coach at the time, José Mourinho, jabbed his finger into the eye of Tito Vilanova, who reacted by slapping the Portuguese on the neck. Mourinho and Vilanova were subsequently hit with two- and one-match suspensions respectively, although neither ultimately served their bans following an amnesty granted by the president of the Spanish FA, Ángel María Villar. In February 2012, the day before the incident was set to be time-barred, the Casa Paraula legal firm filed a criminal complaint against Mourinho and Real Madrid – as the secondarily liable party – with Barcelona M ...

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is ready to fork out the money for Higuain's capture and the £130,000-a-week salary he is currently earning at the Bernabeu. Arsenal and Manchester United are prepared to begin a battle for £40 million-rated Cesc Fabregas. According to the Sun, David Moyes is keen to recruit Fabregas and has urged the board at Old Trafford to splash the cash for the Barca midfielder. Arsenal have first refusal on Fabregas, who they sold to Barca in 2011, although the 26-year-old insists he is prepared to fight for his place at Camp Nou. Moyes will offer Fabregas a regular starting place at United as he looks to restructure the Red Devils. Fabregas ...
Messi welcomed Neymar signing. Lionel Messi sanctioned Neymar’s £47m Barcelona transfer Barcelona consulted Lionel Messi before signing Neymar – the Camp Nou superstar gave the transfer his blessing. Lionel Messi was consulted by Barcelona president Sandro Rossell over whether he agreed with the signing of Neymar. The Camp Nou club completed the transfer of the Brazil superstar from Santos this week in a deal said to be worth £46.8million to much fanfare in front of the global media. It has now emerged, according to Marca , that Barcelona were concerned over what effect making a signing as high-profile as Neymar would have on the squad. The report claims Rossell was not only worried about the escalating costs of the Neymar deal, which was owing to increased interest from rivals Real Madrid. He was also mindful of Neymar becoming a rival of Messi, which has led to disagreements with previous forwards at the club. Messi’s response, the report says, was overwhelmingly positive and that Rosell needn ...

Goal runs through the latest talking points in world football, and which stars could be on the move this summer. The European transfer market has erupted, thanks in no small part to AS Monaco, following swoops for Porto pair Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez, with Radamel Falcao set to join them this week. And of course, Neymar's heading to Barcelona. The Brazilian's arrival at Camp Nou could kick start a period of transition with the Liga champion, with David Villa, Thiago Alcantara, Gerard Deulofeu and even Cesc Fabregas possibly leaving this summer. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is in the hunt for new Galacticos, and with Zinedine Zidane tasked with luring a new batch of stars to the Bernabeu, could the likes of Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez be heading to the Spanish capital? To discuss these and all the other whispers, Matt Lorenzo is joined by Goal's Greg Stobart and former Liverpool and Scotland midfielder Gary Mcallister as we go through the latest talk from the transfer marke

It promises to be fireworks at Wembley when Jurgen Klopp pitches his against Jupp Heynckes in the final of the most prestigious European club competition. Though Bayern Munich might boast of a formiddable team, the managerial prowess of Jurgen Klopp of Borussia Dortmund cannot be overlooked in the first ever German final. Sports analyst, pundits and conosseurs are already tipping the Bravarians to wear the crown but as a veteran football fun I enjoin the Bayern fans to be optimistically cautious, for having fought the odds to come this far the dark horse, Borussia Dortmund, will view the encounter as a do or die affair. Again, checks reveal that complacency has set in Bayern Side due to the 7-0 drubbing of the Camp Nou side in their semi-final face-off. Coach Jupp Heynckes of the Munich side might seek to leave an enduring legacy but the thought of him being replaced after building a compact team could result in tactical paralysis. Though the sloppyness of the Dortmund side was explosed by Real Madrid, t ...
Post -Match Review: Fc Barcelona 2- 0 Deportivo La Coruña . Culés have endured what is arguably their most horrible spell since Fc Barcelona was infamously subjected to the indignity of performing a pasillo (guard of honour) for Real Madrid in the latter days of Rijkaard’s reign at the Camp Nou. Barcelona lost two matches to Real Madrid in the space of a week, and the League match saw the extended suspension of Victor Valdes for uttering a mouthful to the match referee after the game. The team also trails AC Milan by two goals in their Champions League fixture. With this in mind, the Barcelona’s technical bench picked a much weakened side for the match against Deportivo. It is thus a blessing that the match preceding the Champions League encounter with AC Milan was with the team at the bottom of the League table. Deportivo La Coruña has its troubles on the pitch – not having won an away match the whole season. But it is the troubles off the pitch that have been hitting the news. The team is bankr ...
»Man United vs Real Madrid: Can 'Hulk' Ronaldo shake up Old Trafford like R9? A certain Ronaldo, nicknamed R9, haunted Manchester United the last time Real Madrid played at Old Trafford. Can Cristiano, also known as CR7, emulate the iconic Brazilian's feat? Cristiano Ronaldo’s form in 2013 has gone up a new level. The Portuguese winger is widely considered as the most complete player in world football due to his ability to score with the head and both feet, from open play and set-pieces. During the last five days, his excellence has helped Real Madrid to down Barcelona’s momentum. In the Copa Del Rey semis on February 26, Cristiano Ronaldo hit a brace, taking his tally to eight goals in his last six matches at the Camp Nou. This inspired Los Blancos to a 3-1 victory against their bitter rivals. C.Ronaldo was not finished on Saturday. He came off the bench to make more shots on goal (6) than the entire Barcelona team (5) in the last 33 minutes of El Clasico in La Liga. He revived Real Madrid’s play, t ...

Barcelona still have unbeatable attitude, says Roura The stand-in coach at Camp Nou believes his side must have a positive attitude and says Saturday's Clasico remains "an important match" despite the gap in La Liga Barcelona stand-in coach Jordi Roura insists that his side still have the attitude that they are "unbeatable", with big games against Real Madrid and AC Milan looming. Despite Tuesday's 3-1 humbling at the hands of the Blancos at Camp Nou, Roura says everything is well in the camp. "Our morale has to be good, because our attitude is unbeatable and we will win again," Roura told reporters, confidently. Looking ahead to Saturday's Clasico, this time in La Liga and not the Copa Del Rey, Roura believes it is a big clash that could have a bearing on the title race. "It's an important game and we have played them [Madrid] a lot. The league title is the ultimate and to get a positive result would be a big step forward," he continued. When looking back at the defeats to Madrid and Milan, Roura was hon ...

Real Madrid dominate Barcelona to reach King's Cup final Graham Hunter ESPN BARCELONA -- There was a myriad of sights and sounds to take away from this thumping Real Madrid 3-1 (4-2) Copa Del Rey semifinal victory over Barcelona. So late at night are some of Spain's games, so great are the geographical distances between cities and so different from, say, the U.K. or German footballing mentality, is the Spanish one that often great matches like this are watched by a homogenous group -- the home fans and a few dozen hardy visitors. But this, like Barcelona's Champions League semifinal away win back in 2011, was accompanied by a soundtrack of triumphant defiance from a healthy number of travellers. High up in the freezing attic of the Camp Nou there were many hundreds more Real Madrid fans than usual, and while they waved their Spanish flags, chanted "Y Viva Espana," danced and celebrated (from very early in the match) the night had the kind of atmosphere it deserved. Another image? I've seen Jose Mourinho d ...

MATCH REPORT FOR BARCELONA VS Real Madrid 26/02/2013 Barcelona 1 Real Madrid 3 Real Madrid crushed bitter rivals Barcelona on their own turf in the Camp Nou to reach the Copa Del Rey final. Cristiano Ronaldo was the inspiration with two goals and defender Raphael Varane scored his second of the tie before Jordi Alba netted for Barcelona. Madrid go on to face either Sevilla or Atletico Madrid in the final, with their city rivals taking a 2-1 aggregate lead into tonight’s second leg. Lionel Messi sent an early shot across the face of goal but it was Ronaldo who fired the first meaningful salvo when he won and converted a 13th-minute penalty. The Portugal star was chopped down by Gerard Pique, who was booked, and Ronaldo fired the spot-kick low into the net as Pinto went the wrong way. Barca’s mood was not helped when Cesc Fabregas was almost immediately denied a penalty at the other end, though there appeared to be no contact from either Alvaro Arbeloa or Angel Di Maria. Ronaldo sent a 20-yard effort bo ...
If Mourinho's leaving, let the Copa be a coup de grace Posted by Graham Hunter Times have been so turbulent at the home of the Spanish champions of late that only the foolhardy would say "definitely," but there is sufficient indication that Spain may be about to see its final Camp Nou Clasico with Jose Mourinho in charge of Real Madrid. Even after the crowd booing his name, the guerrilla warfare between him and a section of the Madrid media, an apparent *** for-tat feud with Sergio Ramos, the dropping of Iker Casillas and an eight-stone weakling defence of a brilliantly won Spanish championship last year, Mourinho is such a will-of-the-wisp that there are a couple of scenarios (however unlikely) in which he wriggles free from this straightjacket of his own making and retains the throne next season. One of those scenarios is that he fatally holes Barcelona's quest to retain their Copa Del Rey crown on Tuesday night at the Camp Nou and that this, somehow, reinstates him as an attractive proposition for a pr ...

Messi demands Barcelona step up for Clasico Lionel Messi has issued a rallying cry for Barcelona to step up their game against Real Madrid after they were forced to come from behind to beat Sevilla 2-1 on Saturday night. The Blaugrana needed second-half goals from David Villa and the Argentine forward to prevent another disappointing result this week, following their 2-0 loss against AC Milan on Wednesday. "We knew it would be a difficult game, more so after the result against Milan. But we won, and that's the main thing," Messi was reported as saying after the Camp Nou victory. "I feel good, and like to play. Now we must play like we always do in the cup game against Madrid. We won't be able to count on a 0-0 draw." When asked about reports in the Spanish media which alleged that the 25-year-old insulted Los Blancos assistant Aitor Karanka after their first-leg stalemate in Madrid, Messi declared his lack of concern in such things. "Knowing where they come from, I don't care too much about it," he added, ...
Whilst Mourinho works with his available outfield players on Valdebeas pitch 1, and focuses on the ideal tactics to undo Barça and Manchester United, the neighbouring pitch has seen Xabi Alonso aiming to return to full fitness with Rui Faria. This has been the lay of the land at the Madrid training complex for the last two days. Xabi Alonso's recovery is of vital importance for the Real Madrid training staff. In fact, so much so that Mourinho's right-hand man, Rui Faria, is working closely with the central midfielder so he can be in the best possible shape for the coming crucial double-header. There's no way he can get to the Camp Nou and Old Trafford at 100%, but he seems to be progressing well enough play.

The Blaugrana star has played alongside the Blancos defender in the Spain national side for years, while the Rosaleda starlet has been impressive form this season. When asked at the sixth edition of the World Sports Gala who he would like to bring to Barcelona, Iniesta rooted for two compatriots. "I’ve always liked Sergio Ramos,” Mundo Deportivo quoted him as saying. “He's very impressive. And I like to look at the upcoming players, such as Isco." Barcelona's Sunday celebrations started early with a 6-1 romp over Getafe, and ended late with a slip- up by second-placed Atletico Madrid which has all but ended the Spanish title race. Atletico's 2-1 defeat at Rayo Vallecano gave Barca a commanding 12-point lead with 15 matches to play, as third-placed champions Real Madrid languish another four points adrift. "It was an unusual time to play but we had a party in the stadium," the Catalan side's assistant coach Jordi Roura said after the midday kickoff at the Camp Nou, where more than 85,000 fans turned up. "The players were at an extraordinary level. They were intense from the first minute," added Roura, who is running the team while Tito Vilanova is receiving cancer treatment in New York Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring in the sixth minute with his first league goal this season before Lionel Messi netted for a record-extending 13th successive La Liga game before quarter of an hour had been played -- his 35th in the competition from 23 appearances. 1. Cristiano Ronaldo (center) – He led Real Madrid to their first title in four years and he did it in style, scoring some spectacular goals. He finished the season with 46 goals and 12 assists, but you can’t use just numbers to describe the influence he had on Los Blancos. He was the heart and soul of the title-winning side and out-performed Messi in the key game between the two sides at the Camp Nou in April.

The £1 - £1,000 Challenge: Start with £1 and play a 1.1 bet every day. 73 bets accumulating the previous amount and we reach £1,000. Not a fan of 4-fold accy but I see this bet coming tonight. I almost die yesterday watching Arsenal and think that 1.5 goals in a mid-week match when League games are close and there is a second leg to fix things is quite dodgy. Better stick to +0.5 goals if possible. Im not particularly convince of Barcelona's victory tonight at Cordoba. Missing players, cold night and Camp Nou to fix a possible mess. Real Madrid will play a strong team in Vigo. Xabi Alonso, Casillas and Ramos not taking part but still attacking powder will be present at Balaidos with the likes of Ronaldo, Benezema or Callejon. Lyon should score at least a goal tonight against Nancy. I expect no ugly result here. Juve is the clear favourite against Cagliari. Accidents could happen but Juve should score at least once. Barcelona 5-1 Athletic Bilbao: Record-breaking Blaugrana butcher Basques Sensational performance from the Catalan club, who sealed the best-ever Liga start to a season, with Lionel Messi scoring twice to move towards the cusp of Gerd Muller's record Barcelona made Liga history in the most emphatic fashion on Saturday evening after a Lionel Messi double led them to a scintillating 5-1 triumph overAthletic Bilbao at Camp Nou. The victory sees the Blaugrana make the best- ever start in the Spanish top-flight's 113-year history, surpassing the mark set by Radomir Antic's Real Madrid side of the 1991-92 season, while Messi's exploits, his 83rd and 84th goals in 2012, moved him to within one of Gerd Muller's 85-goal record in a calendar year. The marker was set from the 23rd minute, when Gerard Pique poked home the opener, before Messi and Adriano also struck to send the Blaugrana into a fully deserved three-goal lead at half-time. Cesc Fabregas added a fourth shortly before the hour mark and despite a consola ...
Those Barca fans who are saying that the LIGA is over are Barcelona fans since 2009. Fact. They wouldn't have said this had they watched 2006-07 season. When Sevilla, Madrid and Barca battled for the title. It was all between BARCELONA and SEVILLA from the very start of the league. Real MadrID were 3rd or below for most of the season. But just after game week 30 everything changed. We started winning all our matches and Barcelona dropped points. We won the title, we defeated BARCA at Santiago Bernabeu and had a draw at Camp Nou that season. The funny part is that this season we are 3rd and Atletico and Barca are battling for the title and ohh we have already drawn our match at Camp Nou. Not saying that we are going to win the LIGA the way we won that season but still it's just 13 games and you can't write off a team just after 13 games. You just can't say that Real Madrid aren't going to win La Liga until it's mathematically over because this is football... one of the most unpredictable games.
The Argentine netted his 76th goal of 2012 during the trip to Mallorca on Sunday, breaking Pele's personal record for the most goals scored in one calendar year, putting him in second place behind Bayern Munich legend Gerd Muller, who notched 85 goals in 1972. And Iniesta has no doubts over who is the greatest player in the game, but also believes that Messi's biggest rival for the prestigious trophy, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, should be saluted. "Leo is the number one. After that, people vote for whoever they see fit," the 28-year-old was quoted as saying by AS. "Not just for his goals, but for his overall play. He has a huge impact on the team, he is unique and decisive, and that's why he beats all the records. "What makes the people of Barcelona happy is that there is still a lot to come. "Cristiano is one of the big contenders for this award, and all individual prizes." Iniesta went on to say that the reason for his success at Camp Nou is the faith the club show in the youth academy. "Every c ...
What a week I have had! Walking in the Retiro in the sunshine with Ann, viewing in the Prado in the rain with dinner in between at Fategas (Colette Canning's favourite haunt in Madrid). I saw Real Madrid for the first time in Glasgow 52 years ago - I eventually made it to Santiago Bernabeu to see them play there last Saturday - and returned on Monday to relive childhood memories of 1960 and the European Cup Final then. It got better still on Tuesday with Barcelona v Celtic in Camp Nou with Celtic most certainly not disgraced - the learning curve progresses! And was offered the job which I certainly could refuse since I already have the best job in the world! All this thanks to that most wonderful host Kieran Canning (without whom I would still be wandering round Madrid airport terminal 4 looking for my EasyJet flight to Edinburgh - which, as I should have known, flies from terminal1)! Thanks Kieran - hast Navidad y 2013

Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil has now made 50 assists for the club. He's provided 21 assists for Cristiano Ronaldo. The recent one was at Camp Nou.
Gerard Pique claims that Jose Mourinho has given up trying to cause "tension" between the Barcelona and Real Madrid camps because he is busy stirring up trouble in his own dressing-room While last Sunday's Clasico at Camp Nou was notably more friendly than some played in recent years, the current season has already seen Mourinho heavily criticise a number of his own players in public and surprisingly drop regular centre-back Sergio Ramos and playmaker Mesut Ozil in an apparent bid to motivate the two "The tension that there was between us and Real Madrid last year has passed," Pique said. "Mourinho has realised that he should not look for something in Barcelona because he will find nothing. At the end he is looking for that [tension] at home."

Ronaldo's hair stylists reveal the meaning behind his new look. Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo surprised everyone at the Camp Nou on Sunday with a new look. It was a haircut that showed off a shaven V. When he scored the first goal he made the victory sign and pointed to his head. There's a story behind this new image. The Portuguese placed his hair care in the capable hands of brothers José and Miguel Siero Leal. Cristiano Ronaldo called them on Saturday looking for a new style, something different and groundbreaking. And they said: "He told us, as he had on many other occasions that he was looking for something different. We know him well and we had the idea of shaving a symbol that represents both peace and the calm a warrior experiences after battle. He agreed". Making it look good was easy. José and Miguel told MARCA: "He isn't at all fussy. There's a personality behind every haircut. And he needs a strong image. It suits him. He's very ambitious and a perfectionist. We hit on what he was ...

I would like my player to win the Ballon d'Or because he has been a champion in the toughest league in the world but they're both fantastic". Pepe, however, criticized the Barça players: "They are very dramatic. You all saw it. I didn't touch Iniesta and you saw how he went down but we're used to it". Pressure on Madrid, says Cruyff Former Barcelona player and coach Johan Cruyff says Real Madrid cannot afford to lose Sunday's El Clasico at Camp Nou. Jose Mourinho's got into the clash already eight points behind Barcelona after only six games, and Cruyff believes the Portuguese coach will be in a difficult position should they suffer their third loss of the season. "Normally you don't know what is going to happen, but this time I think that Madrid are in more danger than ever because they are so far behind," Cruyff told Sky Sports. "If they lose this one it is like having the whole world falling over you. These are normally the games I fear the most. “Madrid will do more than everything to change this situation around. “Mourinho will be under a lot of pressure after Sunday if they lose. Then there is a big problem. "It could be a tipping point. If they play seven or eight games and - if he loses - they will be so far behind. There's no excuse (for that)." Cruyff won one La Liga title with Barcelona ...

According to the Spanish daily El Pais, the invitation to Shalit, who was freed a year ago in a prisoner exchange Israel negotiated with Hamas, had been solicited by an Israeli “ex-minister.” “This invitation does not indicate in any way that [the club] Barça takes a position in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” a club source told AFP. “In fact, remember that [club] vice president Villarubí received Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in 2011 and showed him all the club’s facilities,” the ...
Everybody gets sad sometimes. At the moment it's Cristiano Ronaldo in the spotlight following revelations of his unhappiness at Real Madrid, but at the end of last April it was Lionel Messi who was suffering, and not the Portuguese. Messi's world was a far from happy place as the 2011-12 season drew to a close. In the space of just over a week, Barcelona had lost La Liga with defeat at home to Real Madrid, crashed out of the Champions League after failing to overcome Chelsea at Camp Nou and then, perhaps worst of all, Pep Guardiola announced his impending departure from the Catalan club.
