Djokovic, who was speaking after the india leg of the IPTL, said he has got the self-belief to go all the way in the second Grand Slam of the year. "Losing only one match in his career is credit to him (Nadal). I respect him a lot, Roger (Federer) and other guys. I am going to push. I am going to keep trying. The last couple of years the way I have played on clay courts against Rafa, it has given me enough reason to believe that I ...

Rafael Nadal has won his ninth French Open title after beating Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros …
A Roland Garros legend. Rafael Nadal becomes the 1st man to win 5 straight French Open titles.
I have a confession to make. And I am ashamed to admit it. But I had doubts. I didn't believe in Rafa before this Roland Garros started. I thought Djokovic was too strong. He's without a doubt the toughest player Rafa has ever played, after all. The only one who could really measure up against Nadal. Who wasn't afraid. Who knew how to play him. Who knew how to BEAT him. But there are no excuses. Rafael Nadal has through his whole career proven doubters as myself wrong. People have written him off more times than any other player in history. "He'll never recover from this injury." "He'll never win slams outside clay." "He'll never come close of Federer." "He's done. It's over. You don't recover from 7 months absence." "No way Nadal is going to win slams at 25, are you kidding me? His playing style is too tough on the body. He might even have retired at 25." "No way Nadal will beat Djokovic again, are you blind? He doesn't stand a chance." And on it goes... But this guy is more than a tennis player. He's a ...

From the Garros 2014 blog. "And that's a wrap folks! WHAT A MATCH. That's the first three-set final in 13 years, and just two minutes shy of the all-time Roland Garros women's record of 3:04, set by Steffi Graf and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario. Sharapova was brilliant in clinching her fifth Grand Slam title in her fourth straight three-set match, while Halep was equally impressive in her first ever major final. That match will take a lot to beat in terms of quality and drama. But no doubt Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will bring a similar quality to the court for tomorrow's men's final! We look forward to you all joining us then :)

In tennis, no surprises there in the men's singles final at Roland Garros as the top two seeds will battle each other for this Grand Slam title. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are no strangers to each other with this being their 3rd matchup in a tournament final this year alone and their 42nd career meeting. And there's going to be plenty at stake in Sunday's final. Besides the French Open title, obviously the winner of this match will also claim the World number 1 ranking.

French Open Day 4 Recap - The women today decided to go off the cuff with six upsets. The biggest upset of the day came at the hands of the 20-year old Spanish youngster, Garbine Muguruza. She handed No. 1 Serena Williams her worst loss ever with a score of 6-2, 6-2. In Serena's post match press conference, she said that nothing was working for her today. She also congratulated her opponent on her play and said that Muguruza would win Roland Garros if she continued to play the way she did today. However, not more than 63 minutes prior to this surprise did No. 29 Venus Williams lose to the 19-year old Slovakian Anna Schmiedlova. Everyone was looking forward to a third round match up of the Williams sister but will now have to settle for two up and coming players. Rafa thru to 2nd round Vamos! Defending champion Rafael Nadal made a strong start in his bid for a ninth Roland Garros title, improving to a 60-1 mark at the clay-court major with victory over American Robby Ginepri on Monday. Nadal raced through the opening set in 29 minutes, after winning the first game on a Ginepri double fault on his fifth break point chance. Ginepri held his first three service game of the second set before the top seed pulled away for good, rolling through the last 10 games to clinch the 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 win. "I won this round, but it was a bit difficult because of the weather," said Nadal, "but it was very important for me, because it gave me the opportunity of having two days' break so that I can practise. That's always positive. When you win, you're always happy. Of course, as always, I had ups and downs, and I could have played being a bit more aggressive." Tennis rant: It is unacceptable that the tournament directors allowed Rafael Nadal's first match at Roland Garros this year be on the court, Suzannne Lenglen. Rafa is defending the French title for the 8th time AND he's world number 1. Yes, move him around in the days to come so that the public has a better chance to see him play, but show some respect to the man on his first day at the tournament. I don't care what other matches are going on, you move them around so the greatest clay court player of all time gets to play on Philippe Chatrier.
Nishikori Knocked out in Straight Sets Wouldn't you know it? Write about someone and you put the kaybosh on him. So much for Michael Chang's debut as a tennis coach. His protege Kei Nishikori was beaten by Martin Klizan of Slovakia 7-6 (4), 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1 at Roland Garros in a huge upset. Nishikori came into the tournament after winning his first clay-court title in Barcelona last month and then reached the final in Madrid, losing to Rafael Nadal. This morning Nishikori is probably feeling as good as Chang looks in the photo from my previous post. Ouch!

This Sunday will almost surely put Rafael Nadal's mark of Slam Championships at 14, tying the immortal Pete Sampras and putting him a mere three titles from catching Roger Federer for the all time lead, and this is something most people are choosing not to discuss openly in public, most likely due to the fact that Federer is still playing competitively. With respects to Roy Emerson, Rod Laver, Björn Borg, and Jimmy Conners, most experts would rank these three, in some order, as tennis's all-time great players. However, a further review would put the order in a rather surprising fashion. First, a look at Slam wins. Federer has won the Australian Open four times, Roland Garros once, Wimbledon seven times, and the US Open five times, for a total of 17 Slam victories. Sampras has won the Australian twice, never the French, seven Wimbledons, and five US Opens, for a total of 14. Assuming Nadal wins on Sunday as the heavy favorite against even a confident Wawrinka, he would be the holder of two Australian Open ...
24th, January 2014 Well, I started being keen on watching Tennis when Rafael Nadal came out the court. At this time, Roger Federer was like a king of Tennis Kingdom. Roger dominated all the tournaments, all the Grand Slams, all the super series he joined, so, I always tried to applaused any tennis players who could defeat Roger. Andy Roddick, Marat Safin, sometimes in their careers, ever beated Roger, but Roger was still someone who was extremely difficult to be defeated. And one day, Rafael came to the tennis world , and he quickly became a big ocstacle of Roger. Rafael has been the reason why in Roger's career, he just only got one Roland Garros, a tournament taken place in Rafael's favorite court. Gradually, Rafael has challenged Roger in every tournaments. Rafael is one of the very rare tennis player who has more win matches than Roger when they play with each other.  Someone claims that the reason why Rafael can beat Roger so many times is Rafael came to the tennis when Roger was not on the top of t ...
The latest article frm the Aus Open on Rafa posted today by Daniel Imhof Some records hover just beyond reach for players considered among the game’s greatest. Roger Federer’s chances of adding a second French Open crown to his cluttered trophy cabinet now appear distant. Andre Agassi couldn’t repeat at either Roland Garros or Wimbledon. Pete Sampras never went close in Paris. One man, Rod Laver, won all four majors at least twice in his decorated career, and world No.1 Rafael Nadal enters Australian Open 2014 able to join this elite club if he triumphs in Melbourne. The Spaniard’s coach, Toni Nadal, has spoken of the year’s first major being his charge’s greatest challenge of 2014 at an event where a spate of injuries and, on occasions, a handful of inspired opponents have thwarted his repeat bid. With talk of the courts in Melbourne playing faster this year, the difficulty of Nadal’s mission is compounded by having arguably the toughest draw of the title contenders in the field. China Open: Serena struggles, Djokovic and Nadal sail through 01 Oct 2013 , Beijing, October 01, 2013 Top seed Serena Williams stumbled her way into the third round of the China Open on Tuesday while men's favourites Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal powered through their opening matches. The world number one Williams at times appeared agitated during her 6-4, 7-5 victory over Italian Francesca Schiavone, shouting at herself over lost points. The American only showed rare moments of her trademark power-play, gaining the upper hand in the first set via a mistake from her opponent, who double-faulted on set point. The top seed Williams was forced to become more aggressive in the second set after her serve was broken in the first game by Schiavone, Italy's first Grand Slam winner, at Roland Garros in 2010, and the current world number 50. Nadal had progressed from being a wrinkle in the argument that Roger Federer was the greatest male player of all time to being a contender for the honour himself. Serena, after her first-round defeat at Roland Garros last year, had dominated the women’s tour, winning three of five Grand Slam titles, an Olympic singles gold and causing former players of the stature of John Mcenroe, Martina Navratilova, and Chris Evert to suggest that there hadn’t been a better female player. Neither Nadal’s 13th major nor Serena’s 17th were records. Federer (17) and Pete Sampras (14) lead the men’s list while Margaret Court (24), Steffi Graf (22), Helen Wills Moody (19), Evert and Navratilova (18 each) top the women’s. But what Nadal’s second U.S. crown and Serena’s fifth did was advance their cases so strongly that ...

Head-to-head: Berdych leads 8-0 This is the fifth meeting between the 2 players this year. This is the most encounters between 2 players at Tour-level in 2013 ahead of David Ferrer v Rafael Nadal (4). Berdych has won all of their previous encounters, but did have to come back from 2-sets-to-one down at 2012 Roland Garros. Anderson is the player Berdych has defeated on most occasions without defeat. He also has a 7-0 win-loss record against Juan Monaco and a 6-0 win-loss record against Florian Mayer. ANDERSON is bidding to become the first South African man to reach the round of 16 at Wimbledo ...
ESPN pundits John Mcenroe and Chris Evert gave their thoughts on who they think will be holding the trophies at the end of the Wimbledon fortnight. Wimbledon.com joined in to hear their views... In the days leading up to a major, the talk in the tennis world is always around who is favoured to take home the trophy at the close of the fortnight. In the case of The Championships 2013, Serena Williams is the leading candidate among the women. The 31-year-old Williams is the world No.1, the top seed and the defending champion who is fresh off a title at Roland Garros and riding a 31-match winning streak that dates back to March. But on the men's side, it's not as easy for the 127th Championships. Top seed Novak Djokovic won the year's opening major in Australia, but Rafael Nadal stormed back from injury to capture his record eighth title in Paris earlier this month. Roger Federer, a seven-times winner at Wimbledon, is the defending champion here. But it's actually Andy Murray who was technically the last to h ...
Back then when Doordarshan was the sole medium for tennis viewers in India, we get to see Grand Slams from quarter finals stages only. That too if my memory serves me right we could see quarters from 1991 wimby only which crowned Michael Stich the champion. Before then, we used to get the telecast from Semis only. As far as Roland Garros was concerend, back in 90s, Doordarshan brought home only semis and finals. I dont remember seeing a QF of FO in Doordarshan. And it was okay for us coz the real competition used to happen from Quarters only. What was the use of watching matches for which the results were pretty much known? Tennis has been a sort of game which opens with 128 players in Grand Slams May be only twenty of those would be capable of providing a decent competiton. So round of sixteen has always been a bit finer to watch but not good enough. The best competiton comes from QF stages only. So though we started watching our favourite players play right from round 1 at the advent of Star television, ...

Phenomenal Nadal creates history, claims eighth French Open title He did it again! A true champion, with a heart of gold and nerves of steel – World No. 4 Rafael Nadal once again proved that clay is his territory and as long as he is fit, he would not allow anyone to get his hands over the holy grail of Roland Garros. Yes, the King can be down at times but he will never be out. The greatest player on red-soil Rafael Nadal added eighth Roland Garros crown to his treasure-trove on Sunday, when he outplayed his dear-friend and Davis-Cup mate David Ferrer in straight sets with a 6-3 6-2 6-3 scoreline. “It is one of the most special ones.” Rafael Nadal asserted during the post-match presentation as he looked relieved and ecstatic but there was not any over-the-top celebration because it might look like another French Open victory for the World No. 4 but he knew it was not easy this time. After a seven-month injury lay-off when Nadal made a comeback on his beloved clay, he looked tentative and pre-occupie ...

Rafa Fans, Unite - Nadal vs Djoko Fri June 7th 7PM at Roland Garros. Excerpt from Roland Garros Website: Djokovic certain of historic win over Nadal By Kate Battersby: If Novak Djokovic tires of tennis in the near future, maybe he should go into marketing. His words ahead of his semi-final against the seven-time champion Rafael Nadal make it clear he’s selling a big idea, to tennis and to himself. And the idea is this… not merely that he can beat the Spaniard, but that he will do so, and thus become only the second man in nine years to defeat Nadal on the Roland Garros clay. There could be no more glorious way to complete the world No.1’s career Grand Slam. "I know the game plan,” announced Djokovic. “I'm going to be confident and step into the court with self-belief. I'm going to win - that's the mindset." To Rafa Nadal - Vamos! Prove Novak to be better in marketing than tennis in the future!
INTERVIEW WITH Uncle Toni : Coach Rafael Nadal Tuesday, June 4, 2013 The uncle and coach of Rafael Nadal will chat with readers about current Roland Garros. 1. 04/06/2013 - 14:56 h. Hi Toni, what you think is missing players like Gulbis, Paire or Dimitrov to be like Rafa, Djokovic or Federer? Hello. Good afternoon. Thanks to all for your interest. Dimitrov is very comprehensive, with good shock and ball feeling: maybe lacks a bit of ambition, constant struggle. Gulbis's case is different. It has very good shots. It's different. Hi Toni, Rafa Nadal Rafa Nadal 2008 vs. 2013 at Roland Garros, who wins? and second, why we have not seen since Rafa's serve at the U.S. Open 2010? The Rafa of 2008. On the serve: not our specialty, we have difficulty to get regularly on the serve. I guess in 2010 and took the flute sounded good. There is no clear reason why. There are times when one gets out well and others that do not. When Rafa Nadal lost the final against Horacio Zeballos after his comeback, few bet that Rafa g ...
Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams top the Roland Garros odds but Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova will be hopeful of overturning the tennis betting
Djokovic has better chance against Nadal in semis - Thu, 06 Jun 2013 05:03 BST Eurosport analyst Mats Wilander was hugely impressed by Novak Djokovic, as the world number one saw off the challenge of veteran Tommy Haas to reach the French Open semi-finals. Djokovic will now meet Rafael Nadal for a place in the final, and Mats believes the Serb stands a better chance of beating the Spanish clay-court master in the semis rather than in the championship game, as he explains in the video below: Mats also casts his expert eye over how Nadal won through, with a straight-set victory over Stanislas Wawrinka, and says the conditions suited the world number four: On the women's side, Maria Sharapova roared back from a terrible first set to beat Jelena Jankovic and book her place in the semi-finals; Mats gives his analysis of that match here: Sharapova will play Victoria Azarenka, who reached her first Roland Garros semi-final with victory over Maria Kirilenko. When asked if Friday's semifinal showdown with Novak Djokovic is basically a final, Rafael Nadal said that he wasn't treating it as a final, but only as a semifinal. He basically downplayed the match in the sense that he didn't act as if whoever wins their semifinal match will win Roland Garros for sure. I think this is smart of him to say and think. After seeing what Jo-Wilfried Tsonga did to Roger Federer, there is no reason to think that Tsonga couldn't beat Nole or Rafa provided he gets passed Ferrer. Whoever comes out on top between Nole and Rafa will be heavily favored and should win, but to call it a final is disrespectful to Tsonga and Ferrer. Especially Tsonga given that he has proven he can take out members of the Big Four in a Grand Slam.

Most of the top seeded players have made it through the first three rounds of the French Open, the exceptions being Tomas Berdych, Li Na and Caroline Wozniaki. However, top men's seed, Novak Djokovic, has so far not demonstrated his tennis prowess while King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, struggled through his first two games dropping two sets early in the championship. Will Rafael Nadal lynch a historic nineth French Open title? DSTV brings us the action live from the French capital.
2009: Toni Nadal AND PARISIAN PUBLIC The debate is not new: the public Roland Garros is it the worst or the best in the world? it is also known for its harshness. This is all the more passionate case. And also the most chauvinistic. Toni Nadal, Rafa's uncle, ruled him "the Parisian public is stupid." That's what he just told Spanish radio ... He obviously did not like that viewers central support Robin Soderling, the opponent of his nephew Sunday. If they supported the Swedish unilaterally, it did not heckled the Spanish player. As being obnoxious, the Parisian audience knows to be. And how. You can not blame him for not ignite. At Wimbledon, spectators, most gracious, are not as involved in the parties. Latest Sports News: Nadal wins through to third round - Seven-time champion Rafael Nafal beats Martin Klizan in four sets to reach round three at Roland Garros.
In 9 years of play at Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal has thus far lost 16 sets in total. Of these he lost the first set 6 times, the second 5 times, the third 4 times and the fourth just once, during his only loss. He has never lost a fifth set because he played only one, which he won. All of which is to say that the longer a match goes on, the more likely it is that Nadal will win. This statistic is a useful nerve management tool for Nadal fans this year.

BORG: 'NADAL IS AN ARTIST!' Despite the fact that he had his record of French Open titles stolen by the Spaniard last year, Björn Borg is fulsome in his praise of Rafael Nadal, who added a seventh crown to his incredible record last year. The Swede, a six-time winner in Paris, not only warmly congratulated Nadal on his seventh Roland Garros success but hopes that the Matador from Manacor will go on to win many more. And with Rafa having just bagged his 55th title at the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid (and 40th on clay no less), he is in pole position according to Borg to make it eight triumphs at the Porte d'Auteuil in a few weeks' time. Yes, Borg is what you could call an unconditional Nadal fan… Björn, what do you think of the Big Four (Djokovic, Federer, Murray and Nadal) who are currently dominating men's tennis? First of all, I'd like to say that I'm delighted that Nadal is back, that he is playing again at last. He's a very important figure for tennis in general. He has a really strong personality a ...
Roger Federer: undercooked or rounding into form? This is a unique situation for the Swiss, who has never gone through such a barren stretch to start a season ever since he first joined the main circuit in 2001. Indeed, he has only made one final so far, at last week's ATP Masters 1000 in Rome. Has he left it too late to round into form in time for Roland Garros? "You don't expect to win that easily against Roger," said no less an observer than Rafael Nadal, who was as incredulous as most after beating Federer 6-1, 6-3 in the final in Rome, the last major tournament before the French Open. The man with 17 Grand Slam titles to his name has turned the start of the 2013 season into a race against the clock, having chosen to ease his way into the year by playing just six tournaments between January and May. This also backfired somewhat when he got knocked out early on in Madrid in his first appearance on clay. Having shed blood, sweat and tears to get back to the No.1 slot in the world in 2012, Federer has ce ...

“Are you watching this?” That was, roughly speaking, the content of at least four text messages that I received on the afternoon of June 28th. I had briefly left my TV, and ESPN’s Wimbledon broadcast, behind to keep a doctor’s appointment. This is a risky proposition for a tennis writer in the middle of a Grand Slam; you never know when a bolt will come out of the blue, Razzano-like, and turn your working day upside down. But I thought I was in luck on this day. What surprise could possibly come out of the second-round match between Rafael Nadal and Lukas Rosol, which was up last on Centre Court? Granted, Rafa hadn’t looked good in his first-round win over Thomaz Bellucci. But after his near-perfect spring and Roland Garros title, he was still my pick to win his third Wimbledon. And Rosol, ranked No. 100 in the world, seemed to have made his road easier by knocking out Ivan Dodig, a player who had beaten Nadal the previous year. Thus I had no clue what those mysterious texts were about. It wasn ...

Tennis has changed in the last few years with racket technology and changing standards in player fitness, among other things, making it difficult to label any single player as the greatest of all time. While each player has contributed to the game inhis own way and faced different opponents and circumstances, some have been more impressive than others. Here are 10 of the greatest male tennis players of all time. 1. Roger Federer - Federer tops the list as a 16-time Grand Slam winner, and six-time ATP World Tour Finals winner. The Swiss star spent 285 weeks at the No.1 spot in the rankings. His versatile and effortless game has won him all four Grand Slams, including six Wimbledon, five U.S. Open, one French Open, and four Australian Open titles. Many critics and tennis fans were unsure of his position as the greatest of all time until he captured his first Roland Garros title in 2009. Seven Doomed Men by Pete Bodo Rafael Nadal needs scant promotion as the start of the French Open bears down on us. Any doubts about Nadal's future as the man with a stranglehold (instead of that familiar, playful bite) on the French Open trophy were laid to rest these past few weeks. All that talk about Novak Djokovic pulling the clay out from under Nadal's feet? Oh, how quaintly 2011 it was. That particular threat has been dismissed as if by one of those wicked Nadal forehand cuts that ends with a helicopter flourish. So here we are again, with absolutely nothing to suggest that Rafa won't sashay out there next week and inflict a painful whipping on the first of the seven doomed men he will dismiss en route to his seventh Roland Garros title. That would break his tie with Bjorn Borg (six titles in eight appearances), and also allow Nadal to build on his superior winning percentage. We used to marvel at the fact that Borg lost just two matches in those eight tournaments at Roland Garros (as if that weren' ...
