Sometimes amid certain situations we feel so helpless, however hard we may try but things won't work out in our favour. It's then we start believing or blaming our luck or fate. !!! Witnessed the same helplessness on the faces of the Wimbledon's finest players as Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova suffered upsets, losing to their opponents. :( :(
Today Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal have suffered huge upsets, both beaten by rank outsiders at Wimbledon! Meanwhile, I have been sat in my room cracking on with Ph.D. writing. I'd just like to publically thank Professor Jon Tonge for the deadline he set me yesterday. ;)

Follow Sportsmail's coverage of Wimbledon 2014 as former champions Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams all begin their quest for glory on the lawns of SW19.
Last year's Wimbledon was the most unpredictable in memory. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova - owners of a combined 10 titles at the All England Club - were all gone by the end of the second round. Five-time champion Serena Williams left in the fourth. Add in the record-equaling withdrawals or mid-match retirements because of health problems. And to cap it all, Andy Murray finally gave Britain the men's champion it had wanted for more than three-quarters of a century. What might 2014 have in store? Here are five things to watch at Wimbledon, where play begins Monday: 'MURRESMO': The pairing of Murray and his new coach, Amelie Mauresmo, was quickly dubbed ''Murresmo,'' and their partnership is sure to draw a lot of notice. For one thing, Murray won the grass-court Grand Slam tournament - the first British man in 77 years to do so - with Ivan Lendl in his corner a year ago. For another, it's unusual for a top male tennis player to be coached by a woman. But Murray was coached for years by his ...
The excited expressions of the children visiting the All England Club on Saturday said it all: nothing inspires the next generation quite like a close encounter with the best of the current one. On a glorious day in London, many such role models were setting the finest possible example to the young fans on site for Family Day. Whether it was watching two-time champion Rafael Nadal as he practised with countryman Tommy Robredo, 2008 Girls’ Singles champion Eugenie Bouchard hitting with recent world No.1 Victoria Azarenka or the dozens of other top players preparing for what might become the most important occasion in their tennis career, motivation for the children to pick up their own racket was everywhere. For some, merely being on site and absorbing the atmosphere was enough. With proud mums and dads in tow – naturally with camera phones at the ready – the children visited the Museum, had a chance to hit at the special “Play Tennis” site, saw where many special matches (such as the record-brea ...

Murray, Djokovic on semis collision course - 20 June 2014, 13:19 Defending champion Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, the man he beat in 2013 to capture Britain's first Wimbledon title in 77 years, on Friday landed in the same half of this year's draw, leaving Roger Federer the biggest winner. Murray, who has been seeded three, could face top-seeded Djokovic in the last four while seven-time champion Federer, the fourth seed, is scheduled to renew his rivalry with world No 1 Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. But Nadal, the 2008 and 2010 champion, has been seeded second this year after losing in the first round in 2013 and getting knocked out in the second round 12 months earlier. The 28-year-old Spaniard, who won a ninth French Open earlier this month, has already expressed fears over whether or not his famously brittle knees will stand up to two weeks of grasscourt tennis. His mood will not have been helped by the draw which lined him up for a possible second round clash against big-hitting Czech Lukas Ros . ...

The French Open 2014 has reached the finals stage. The main attraction of the finals though is the greatest rivalry in modern tennis - World No1. Rafael Nadal Vs World No.2 Novak Djokovic. The duo have clashed for 41 times (the most in the open era), with Nadal leading 22-19 over Novak. As we know, the Spaniard is the KING OF CLAY, and has won 8 of the 9 French Opens that he participated. Out of 61 matches played till date, he has lost jus a single match against Robin Soderling in 2009. So, an amazing 60-1 W-L record. Can the Serbian tame the raging Spanish bull who is lookin for his 14th career Grand Slam and 9th French Open title??.. In my opinion, it wud be a BIG NO as evident from his performances in this tournament. But, anythng can happen on the day of final as we saw in the final of this yr's Aus open. At Roland Garros this week the men are providing some great entertainment with two great semi finals lined up. Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray will meet in perhaps the most intriguing match yet of the 2014 French Open. Nadal, ranked No. 1 and the reigning champion, takes on Murray, the comeback kid who wants to dethrone the King of Clay. On the surface, the other semifinal matchup between Novak Djokovic and Ernests Gulbis pits the over-achieving Serbian against Latvia's class clown, they enter this match seeking the same thing, something they have never accomplished before. While the ladies are not to be forgotten as a wild start has made way for a mostly scratch close. After early favorites bounced, other contenders have stepped up to fight for the crown, Maria Sharapova has taken over the title as the favorite, Sharapova will have to defeat upstart Eugenie Bouchard, who is in her second consecutive semi. Joining the two women on court will be No. 4 Simona Halep and No. 28 Andrea Petkovic. In International ...
We move into the semi's of the French Open with the Women's matches taking place tonight (11pm start) and the men's tomorrow. I will give a joint preview for both days matches. -Maria Sharapova ($1.30) vs Eugenie Bouchard ($3.45)- Bouchard goes up against her idol growing up. My head tells me Sharapova. Whilst I'm a bit biased towards her I think Bouchard can take it to Maria and send it to a 3rd set. SUGGESTED BET: Total games over 21.5 @ $1.90 -Simona Halep ($1.22) vs Andrea Petkovic ($4.15)- Petkovic proved me wrong yesterday but Halep looks very tough to beat at the moment and I think she'll continue her run of form. SUGGESTED BET: Halep @ $1.22 or Halep 2-0 @ $1.70 -Novak Djokovic ($1.10) vs Ernests Gulbis ($6.50)- Gulbis has had a terrific tournament beating Federer and Berdych in the last 2 round, however Djokovic is a different animal altogether. SUGGESTED BET: Having only dropped 1 set (in a tiebreak) this tournament I like Djokovic 3-0 @ $1.90 -Rafael Nadal ($1.14) vs Andy Murray ($5.50)- Murray ...

The draw has been set. The clay has been combed. All of the top players are in Paris. It's time for the French Open to begin. This year, the tournament feels a bit more up in the air than usual. Rafael Nadal still had the best clay season out of anyone, but it wasn't up to his lofty standards. The Spaniard only won one title, and lost in two straight quarterfinals to lower-ranked countrymen. Novak Djokovic beat him in the final of the Rome Masters last week to set up plenty of intrigue between the top two players in the world. On the women's side, Serena Williams is the favorite as always, but there are plenty of other contenders. Maria Sharapova continues her revival on clay, Simona Halep is looking to finally make a big move at a major and Ana Ivanovic has been turning the clock back to 2008, the year she won this tournament. As soon as the draws for major tournaments are released, fans look ahead to which players will be competing in quarterfinals and semifinals. However, this year's French Open will f ...

Tennis | 2014 Australian Open | Day 2 | Night Session It’s been a very hot and extraordinary day at Melbourne Park. Retirements, five-set epics, questions raised over playing in the heat, and the bad news there is, that the next 3 days are expected to be the same! Roger Federer was too good against James Duckworth, winning 4, 4 and 2. From there, it only got worse for the Australians, Lleyton went down swinging in five, after being two sets down, and Bernard Tomic only lasted a set against Rafael Nadal. For those not up-to-speed, Tomic was injured in the opening games, and limped his way through the first set, which Rafa won 6 games to 4, before Bernard retired due to that injury just before we got underway in the 2nd Set.. Maria Sharapova made light work of Bethanie Mattek-Sands from the USA. The world number 3 advanced 6-3, 6-4. Gilles Simon won an epic out on Court 7. He was pushed to five by German Daniel Brands, and it went well into overtime, with Simon eventually winning 16-14 in that fifth and d ...

Article from last year regarding ETAPE Marie Curie Cancer Care Etape Pennines bike ride The 'charity' bike ride where no money goes to charity If none of the money goes to charity, how is the event's entry fee – the most expensive on the sportive calendar – justified? Riders signing up for Britain's newest and most expensive charity cycling sportive could be forgiven for thinking that part of their entry fee goes direct to a good cause. After all, the official title of the event is the Marie Curie Cancer Care Etape Pennines. Together with its well established big brother north of the border, the Etape Caledonia, it charges the highest entry fee on the sportive calendar – £61. Yet none of that goes to the charity. Instead, all profits go to one of the richest showbiz and sport talent agencies in the world, IMG, which includes Rafael Nadal, Justin Timberlake and Tyra Banks among its clients. 5,000 riders took part in May's Etape Caledonia. Almost 3,000 have signed up for the Etape Pennines, which tak ...

Wimbledon Update Sabine Lisicki - down but not out Sabine Lisicki And Crazy Wimbledon by Raul Raña John Mcenroe called Day 3 at Wimbledon the "craziest day ever" of the tournament, a day that witnessed the shock loss of champion Roger Federer to an opponent from Ukraine ranked below the top 100 in the world, the loss of Maria Sharapova, the withdrawal of Victoria Azarenka and Belgian Steve Darcis, Rafael Nadal's first round conqueror, and other top seeds due to the "slippery grass -" truly enough which led to many a tumble and fall among the players - Sharapova called the grass "dangerous," and the complaints became an issue with organizers. Some things really puzzle me several tennis players win multiple Grand Slams and get no recognition yet just because Andy Murray wins Wimbledon he is worthy of a knighthood I think its totally pathetic, Virginia Wade won the Wimbledon title in 1977 and she was never made a Dame so what is the difference. Serena Williams & Venus Williams have won 5 Wimbledon titles, Rafael Nadal has won 2 Wimbledon titles, Roger Federer has won 7 Wimbledon titles, Maria Sharapova has won 1 Wimbledon title and do they get any recognition just for winning Wimbledon no they do not. If anyone should be knighted it should be soldiers in the army who do a far more important job fighting for their country and risk their lives on a daily basis. Andy Murray stands on a tennis court hitting a ball from one side to the other and gets paid millions just for doing that its totally out of order. Serena Williams has won 16 Grand Slams in Singles, 13 Grand Slams in Doubles, 2 Grand Slams in Mixed Doubles and 4 Olympic Gold Medals (1 in Si ...
Still can't believe Serena Williams went out of Wimbledon and Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal and Rodger Federer
Marion Bartoli's near-perfect day ... LONDON -- The big, flat-out hitters -- Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova -- were already chilling at home when the women's semifinals unfurled Thursday. That they also were the top three seeds here at the All England Club says a lot about today's game. Big is almost always better, but this retro final four has something different: variety. It happened on the men's side, when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal succumbed to crazed, net-crashing volleyers named Steve Darcis and Sergiy Stakhovsky. As Martina Navratilova wrote in her Thursday column in the Times of London, all four women's semifinalists could have played in the wooden racket era. Their average height -- about 5-foot-7 -- isn't all that far beyond the height of an average woman. Serena Williams stunned at Wimbledon by German Sabine Lisicki Kvitova, Li Na also advance The Associated Press Posted: Jul 1, 2013 10:27 AM ET Last Updated: Jul 1, 2013 11:55 AM ET Sabine Lisicki overcome mid-match struggles to earn the biggest win of her career. Serena Williams saw her match streak end at 34 on Monday, and more importantly, her bid to repeat as Wimbledon champion. Germany's Sabine Lisicki topped Williams by scores of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 on Centre Court, continuing a trend of upsets during the tournament's fortnight. Past Wimbledon champions Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova exited the tournament last week, while top contenders Victoria Azarenka and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were among a spate of injury casualties. "I probably couldn't be more disappointed," Williams said. "I think I may have backed off of a success. I was playing something successful. I didn't continue that path. The result didn't go the way it could have gone had I continued to play the way I did in the second set." No ...
With Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and other stars eliminated, the fourth round will introduce fans to players with big games, if not big names.
Wacky Wednesday at WimbledonSlips, but Federer Takes the Biggest Fall By NAILA-JEAN MEYERS WIMBLEDON, England — The carnage began early Wednesday at Wimbledon. Fifteen minutes into the first match on Court 3, the top-seeded American man, No. 18 John Isner, retired from his match against Adrian Mannarino with a left knee injury. By lunch, women’s No. 2 Victoria Azarenka and Steve Darcis, who upset Rafael Nadal in the first round Monday, had withdrawn because of injuries. At tea, a knee injury had forced No. 6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to quit his match after three sets, and third-seeded Maria Sharapova and ninth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki had lost to qualifiers after slipping on court and requiring medical treatment. At dinner, after seven singles players had retired or withdrawn with injuries, the All England Club issued an extraordinary statement defending the state of its grass. And as the sun was setting to bring one of the strangest days in Wimbledon history to an end, the most unusual sight of all o ...
Wimbledon this year is full of upsets, from Rafael Nadal to Maria Sharapova top seeds are going home early.
Nigerians may not be too tennis crazy, but you have to be stone cold not be shocked at the turn of events in Wimbledon 2013. First it was the shock at the exit of Rafael Nadal to a lowly ranked player ,now we all woke to the shock elimination of Roger Federer the defending champion , Victoria Azarenka world number 2, Jo Wilfred Tsonga, and unbelievably Maria Sharapova , and then there is Caroline Wozniacki, Anna Ivanovic all top seeds eliminated by players way down the ladder
London bridge is falling down and taking every tennis player with it Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Sara Errani, Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, Marin Cilic, Janko Tipsarevic, Maria Kirilenko, Nadia Petrova and John Isner and the guy who took down Nadal for all the Rafa fans.
What a crazy start to Wimbledon! After only 3 days Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and defending champion Roger Federer have already lost, while other prominent names such as Victoria Azarenka, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and John Isner were forced to retire due to injury. What has been most shocking for you so far?
Roger Federer lost in the second round and Rafael Nadal lost in the first round at Wimbledon already. Andy Murray must have booby trapped the grass lawn they play on. LOL!
Up early, getting ready for work day, I have very busy next few days. I am also getting caught up with Wimbledon's Tennis Open from yesterday Wednesday June. 26th. Huge upsets at the English club. Rafael Nadal loosing in the 1st round and also number 5th female player in the world Sara Errani, loosing in the first round on Monday. With the injury and withdrawal of Victoria Azarenka, and also John Isner, followed by the early retirement of Wilfredo Tsongas. Oh Venus Williams not playing and also the ousting in the second round of the Great Roger Federer. The great lost of Maria Sharapova who was seated at number 3, loosing to the 136th player. Wow!...that was a mind blowing surprise. Though I may not be a fan of some of them, they are still great players and have done a lot to put their countries of origin on the world stage of tennis. And it is sad to see some of them loose and then some of them just fade in to the sub set with out much glory especially if a sport is not a passion in their culture, then th ...
Murray wins in straight sets at Wimbledon LONDON (AP) -- Never has a routine, straight-sets victory been so remarkable. Britain's Andy Murray brought a small sense of order to Wacky Wednesday at Wimbledon. In a day of stunning upsets, ill-timed injuries and slips and biffs on the grass, his match was ordinary, his scoreline routine. His 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Yen-hsun Lu of Taiwan was notable only for not being notable - one of the rare times that could be said on a day when Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova lost, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga quit, Victoria Azarenka didn't even start and five more players, including the man who beat Rafael Nadal earlier in the week, also went out with injuries. ''You have to concentrate on yourself,'' Britain's top player said. ''I think when a lot of players get injured, the one thing is, you may be a little tentative yourself at the beginning of the matches, maybe not feel that comfortable throwing yourself around the court. But after the first few games, that normally goes a ...
Maria Sharapova, Lleyton Hewitt, Jelena Jankovic, Victoria Azarenka, Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer: 8 former Number 1s out from that's it, shut off your TV sets and go to sleep!
Wimbledon 2013- This is indeed a Grand Slam, with heavyweights like Rafael Nadal(5), Lleyton Hewitt(former world no 1), Wilfred Tsonga(7), Elena Baltacha, Caroline Wozniacki(9) out through ankle injury, Maria Sharapova(3) and my own favorite tennis star Roger Federer(3) all shown way out of the Grand Slam. Tennis is now a game of no minnows as the seemingly unrated and lowly ranked players spring up surprises which is actually good for the game. Wimbledon 2013 is a tournament of the fittest with more surprises hopefully coming. Who wears the crown?
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Victoria Azarenka, and Maria Sharapova have all been knocked out of Wimbledon and it is only round 2!! Wow!
So far, has lost fan favorites Rafael Nadal, Victoria Azarenka, John Isner and Maria Sharapova. This bracket is crazy
Rafael Nadal, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Marin Cilic all out. And we're just in the second round.

Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams top the Roland Garros odds but Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova will be hopeful of overturning the tennis betting
What a day of tennis! My girl Maria Sharapova gave me a HUGE scare this morning when she lost the first set to Jelena Jankovic 0-6! She made a fantastic comeback and took the last two set 6-4, 6-3 to move on the semi-finals. In the semi-finals she will play Victoria Azarenka who beat Maria Kirilenko 7-6, 6-2. Rafael Nadal dominates the "other Swiss" Stanislas Wawrinka in straights and then Novak Djokovic beat the ageless Tommy Haas in straights as well.
2 p.m. Maria Sharapova takes on Jelena Jankovic... Rafael Nadal is looking to stop Stan the man. Victoria Azarenka will have a tough one trying to defeat Maria Kirilenko. Novak Djokovic vs. Tommy Haas, does age matter !?
Today is the second day of the French Open quarter-finals. On the men's side Novak Djokovic tackles Tommy Haas and Rafael Nadal faces Stanislas Wawrinka, while on the women's side Jelena Jankovic plays Maria Sharapova and Maria Kirilenko is up against Victoria Azarenka. Who will you be backing?
Like an apparition - I've spent last weekend in the stands of Phillipe Chartrier at the Roland Garros Grand Slam in Paris watching the gratest icons of our generation, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, but also Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga among others. When all of sudden, for a brief moment, John Mcenroe emerged from the
Second seed Maria Sharapova eased into the French Open quarter-finals with a comfortable win over Sloane Stephens. The reigning champion recorded a 6-4 6-3 triumph over the American 17th seed. Victoria Azarenka will meet Maria Kirilenko after defeating 2010 champion Francesca Schiavone 6-3 6-0. Tommy Haas thrashed Mikhail Youzhny to set up a last-eight meeting with Novak Djokovic, while Stanislas Wawrinka will face Rafael Nadal after fighting back to beat Richard Gasquet in five sets.
Victoria Azarenka, Novak Djokovic & Rafael Nadal have all won today. Just Maria Sharapova to go to complete a perfect day. 1 set up atm!
Matches of the Day – Day 9 1. Novak Djokovic vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber It’s been something of a mixed bag at Roland Garros so far this year for top seed and world number one Novak Djokovic. The Serb was far too good for rising star Grigor Dimitrov in the third round, but did have some injury concerns regarding his right shoulder during the match. On top of that, Djokovic after the match learned of the death of his childhood coach, Jelena Gencic, and was too distraught to attend his post-match press conference. It remains to be seen whether Gencic’s death spurs Djokovic on in this tournament or represents an additional burden for the Serb to carry on his back. His opponent in the round of 16, Philipp Kohlschreiber, is a talented player and the sixteenth seeded German has beaten Djokovic at Roland Garros in the past. But that was before Djokovic established himself as the world’s leading player. I’ll back the top seed to turn tragedy into triumph in Paris this year. Djokovic in 3. 2. Rafael Nadal ...
(2) Maria Sharapova def. Jie Zheng 6-1, 7-5. Impressive win for Sharapova to come back from a 1-4 deficit in the 2nd set! Sharapova moves on to the 4th round where she will face (17) Sloane Stephens. Up next on Philippe Chatrier is (3) Rafael Nadal vs. (27) Fabio Fognini!
After two significant rain delays throughout Thursday, the heavens opened a third time just before 9 pm, bringing a premature end to the day’s play whilst leaving a number of matches hanging in the balance. Maria Sharapova (No.2) was particularly disappointed that her tie on Chatrier could not be completed. She was a set and 4-2 to the good against up-and-coming Canadian player Genie Bouchard, but once she failed to take a break point which would have had her serving for the match at 5-2, the umpire called a halt. Stanislas Wawrinka (No.9) was also homing in on victory when play was suspended. The Swiss No.2 had taken the first set 6-2, squeezed home in a tie-break in the second once play resumed at around 8 pm and was about to receive at 3-3 in the third. His opponent Horacio Zeballos, who of course defeated Rafael Nadal in the final of the Spaniard’s comeback tournament in Vina del Mar at the start of the year, attempted a service but could barely grip his sodden racquet, and that was that. Elsewher ...
