"Event Horizon" is a 1997 science fiction horror film written by Philip Eisner (with an uncredited rewrite by Andrew Kevin Walker) and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The 'Event Horizon' is an interstellar spaceship using a new kind of warp drive. It was sent to Proxima Centauri seven years ago and never heard from again. Suddenly, it re-appears near Neptune. A rescue mission aboard the ship 'Lewis & Clark' is commanded by Capt. Did You Know: Astronomy facts: Boomerang Nebula is the coldest known place in the universe. The Moon is moving away from the Earth 3.8cm every year. The entire surface area of Pluto is smaller than Russia. There are three golf balls on the Moon (left by Apollo 14 astronaut Alan Shepard in 1971.) 20,000,000,000,000 AD Red dwarf stars are dying* By now, even some of the longest-lived stars in our galaxy – such as red dwarfs – have begun to fade away, leaving behind only cold "black dwarfs" emitting trace amounts of radiation. This includes once famous stars such as Proxima Centauri, Barnard's Star and Wolf 359. The Milky Way galaxy is becoming a dark, empty place dominated by enormous blackholes.

Baffling Triple-Star System Reveals an Exoplanet and a Spectacular Ring of Comets.. The nearby star Fomalhaut A hosts the most famous planetary system outside our own Solar System, containing both an exoplanet and a spectacular ring of comets. An international team of astronomers have announced a new discovery with the Herschel Space Observatory that has made this system even more intriguing; the least massive star of the three in the Fomalhaut system, Fomalhaut C, has now been found to host its own comet belt. The new discovery might hold the key to some of the mysteries of the Fomalhaut system. The lead author Grant Kennedy, an astronomer at the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Cambridge, said, "It's very rare to find two comet belts in one system, and with the two stars 2.5 light years apart this is one of the most widely separated star systems we know of. It made us wonder why both Fomalhaut A and C have comet belts, and whether the belts are related in some way." To get a feeling for how f ...
The third closest known star system to Sol (or fourth if you include the brown dwarfs), at 7.78 light years, is Wolf 359, another red dwarf. This one is probably about the same size as Proxima Centauri. It’s named after its discoverer, Max Wolf – not because of any reference to wolves! It is also known as CN Leonis. David Darling has some astronomical images of this star. Wolf 359 is one of the dimmest and lowest mass stars known, being just over the 75-80 Jupiter mass boundary between brown dwarfs and red dwarfs. With a surface temperature of only 2,800 K, it is so cool that chemical compounds can actually form and interact in its outer layers, where most stars have only ionized atoms and subatomic particles. According to currently used models of stellar evolution, Wolf 359 appears to be a very young star, somewhere between 100 and 350 million years. On the other hand, it has a slow rotation rate, which we can detect because rotation blurs the spectrum, through the Doppler Effect. This would seem to ...

It has a diameter of about 1,392,684 km (865,374 mi), around 109 times that of Earth, and its mass (1.989×1030 kilograms, approximately 330,000 times the mass of Earth) accounts for about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System. Chemically, about three quarters of the Sun's mass consists of hydrogen, while the rest is mostly helium. The remainder (1.69%, which nonetheless equals 5,600 times the mass of Earth) consists of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon and iron, among others. The Sun formed about 4.6 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of a region within a large molecular cloud. Most of the matter gathered in the center, while the rest flattened into an orbiting disk that would become the Solar System. The central mass became increasingly hot and dense, eventually initiating thermonuclear fusion in its core ...
A beam of light can get from Earth to Mars in three minutes and to the Sun in eight and a half. It takes just over four years to get to the nearest star, Proxima Centauri. WOW!
7. The Star(other than sun) nearest to the earth is. A. Proxima Centauri. B. Alpha Centauri. C. Pole Star. D. Vega...
The other day I learnt that Voyager 1 is now travelling at approx 61 348 km/h relative to the sun, which is around 50 times faster than a .22 LR bullet. At this speed, it will take 73 775 years to reach our closest star, Proxima Centauri. That's approx 1000 lifetimes. If we want to make it in one lifetime, we would need to have a speed increase which would be the equivalent of speeding up a turtle (on land) to the speed of a Formula 1 car. Don't expect any interstellar travel any time soon...
I know for a fact with the tools and money I could eradicate the solar system and move to another one and start again. And I am a drop in the ocean compared to other beings , and nothing in relation to the Father God. I could leave for Proxima Centauri and rebuild a better human race. And since this one is irredeemably worthless. Make sure I was never followed. Only that would be petty. Like stepping in a bug because you can.
Some interesting results from playing around with SDE. In RL, the nearest star to the sun is 4.3 ly away (proxima centauri)
Seven Heavens and Seven Earths Sura 65:12 "It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof (i.e seven). His command descends between them (heavens and earth), that you may know that Allah has power over all things..." The idea here is that there are seven heavens and earths. Everytime the quran makes references to the "worlds" for instance, its making references to these 7 earths. Note also that this verse says Allah's commands spreads throughout these seven earths and heavens. That would imply that there are a total of 14 'planets' where living beings are also listening to and obeying Allah's commands. Who are the inhabitants of these other earths and heavens and how do they live? Allah didnt explain. The hadiths even went so far to give these 7 earths names like Ramaka, Khalada, Arqa, Haraba etc. It says these "earths" are below our earth and on judgement day, Allah would be so full of wrath against the sinners that they will fall into any of these "earths" below. The idea of ...
Hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving and if Jewish, Hanukkah! You all had better have enjoyed this rare alignment as it won't happen again for roughly 79,000 years! To demonstrate just how long that is, the next time these holiday's collide Voyager 1 will have flown past the Oort Cloud 49,000 years ago. If it was headed towards Proxima Centauri (it's not), it would have reached this red dwarf star roughly 5,000 years prior. I'm such a geek/nerd/dork for knowing stuff like this. On the other hand, being this geek/nerd/dork is among that I am thankful for!
if you convert every dollar of the us debt into a single mile, the distance would stretch from the sun to the Oort cloud, back to the sun, then back to the Oort cloud once more. this same distance is 3/4 of the distance to our nearest star, Proxima Centauri it would take the voyager spacecraft, travelling at over 35k mph, 60,000 years to travel this distance. it takes light 2.9 years to travel this distance
Did You Know... · The Australian household size is expected to decline from 2.6 to 2.3 by 2026 · Statistics from SQM Research indicate that, across Australia, housing on the market for October increased by 1.5 per cent from September figures · Interest rates are expected to remain unchanged when the board of the Reserve Bank meets today · In Australia, there is one birth approximately every 1 minute and 42 seconds · An iceberg contains more heat than a match The Swedish Solar System is the world's largest permanent scale model of the solar system. The sun is 105 metres in diameter and the planets are from 5 mm to 6 km from the 'sun' and are situated northwood in other cities along the Baltic Sea. This particular model also contains the nearest star, Proxima Centauri, still to scale, situated in the Museum of Victoria ... in Australia
humans have no idea about time. this can be my excuse for my lates :D the light we see from the our star and other stars around us closest being Proxima Centauri (4.2 light years) can be up to 1,000 to 100,000 years old. our perspective on time is off all the time. "time" that we humans use on earth is simply to organize everything, (jobs, appointments ect.) time is actually the hardest thing to figure out on earth. if we figured out time perfectly or even grabbed it by the hair we wouldnt have to change our "time" on our clocks because the earth turned. we base our time on light wich is stupid becasue we consantly move at different speeds and different directions. we should base it from the source. the large black hole in the middle of the milky way :P
