Illinois Press Association FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Association opposes Concealed Carry bill on procedural issue SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Press Association opposes the adoption of House Bill 183 because it would it would exempt the Concealed Carry License Review Board from the Open Meetings Act and the Freedom of Information Act. “To be clear, we are not seeking access to personal data,” said Dennis DeRossett, executive director. “Personal information can be protected without creating a secret agency. We understand the strong sentiment in the General Assembly to protect the privacy of Firearm Owners Identification Cardholders and those citizens who are granted concealed carry permits. However, there is a substantial difference between a subject-matter exemption in the OMA or FOIA and a blanket exclusion from the Acts. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala mother released The mother of Nigeria's finance minister has been released after being abducted by kidnappers, an official said. Paul Nwabuikwu, a spokesman for Nigeria's finance ministry, said the mother of minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was released on Friday morning. He offered no other details. Mrs Okonjo-Iweala is a respected economist who was nominated earlier this year to become World Bank chief before losing to Jim Yong Kim, who was nominated by the United States. The west African country has seen a spate ofkidnappings and growing sectarian violence. Experts say kidnappers who once targeted mainly expatriate oil workers have shifted their focus to wealthy Nigerian families in recent years.
