So it is now official that two other West African leaders (Mad. Johnson Sir Leaf of Liberia and Mr Yahaya Bonne) ahead of the unanimous election of President John Dramani Mahama as the new chair for ECOWAS earlier expressed their interest to become ECOWAS chair but in the end changed their minds to unanimously endorse President Mahama he is a President for less than two years. This decision could not have been influenced by any other thing other than the confidence and trust they have in President Mahama. Anyway, it was expected knowing what the president is made up off.
The ECOWAS heads of state The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Tetteh says President John Dramani Mahama is poised for the task ahead as the chairman of ECOWAS.

What I Will Tell The President If I Meet Him After almost three months break, I am back on the block because of the numerous issues that need to be discussed and brought to the attention of the President. The issues are motley in nature and very key to the development of this country, as well as towards the improvement in the standard of living of the people. I have for some time now been brooding over some of these issues and I have been wondering how I can pass them on to President John Dramani Mahama. I have on a few occasions, since 2001, had the privilege of interacting with former President John Agyekum Kufuor and President Mahama (since his days as Vice President) and was able to tell them one or two things bothering the people they governed. I am still looking for another opportunity to meet President Mahama to tell him about some of the pressing issues that need urgent attention, which could possibly put back the smiles on the faces of those suffering such cruel fate, as well as restore the conf ...

Education is government's priority As part of NDC 2012 manifesto to make education accessible for all children of school-going age, p17 • President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that education will continue to be the priority of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government. • In pursuance of that, government will continue to spend a chunk of its budgetary allocation on school infrastructure to make students of all educational levels comfortable. • President Mahama announced this when he addressed the chiefs and people of Enchi, as part of his three- day official visit to the Western Region. • During his stay in the region, the President cut sod for commencement of new development projects, inaugurates completed ones and inspects the progress of on- going projects.
Politics of Thursday, 13 March 2014 Source: Al-Hajj NDC, Mahama losing volta? Very worrying reports emanating from the Volta region paints a gloomy picture of how President John Dramani Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress is gradually losing grip on a region christened as its “world bank” in terms of votes. The intense growing attrition and despondency among core supporters of the governing party is said to be as a result of heavy disappointment with the government’s commitment to the development of the region and how the region’s presence and influence under the Mahama government continue to dwindle. They say many of the party gurus from the region, most of whom were very active during the Mills administration and who have also demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the NDC since 1992 have been sidelined or are playing second fiddle in the running of the Mahama government. People of the region are complaining that despite their unflinching commitment to the ruling party which ha ...

THE BIG ISSUE (PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS) President John Dramani Mahama, on Independence Day, advocated that every day be declared “Ghana Day” to inculcate the culture of depending on local consumption in the citizenry. How do we therefore declare everyday a ‘Ghana Day”? Please remember to add your occupation at the end of your comment for publication in the Daily Graphic.
Ghana marks its 57th Independence Anniversary today Thursday, 6 March, 2014 with parades across the country. The theme for this year's celebrations is " Building a Better and Prosperous Ghana through Patriotism and national Unity". President John Dramani Mahama will address a national parade of school children and Security personnel at the Black Star Square in Accra. Ghana is the first black African country, south of the Sahara, to gain independence from Britain on March 6, 1957 with Kwame Nkrumah as its first leader. Nkrumah envisioned the country as a guiding light in African independence and solidarity, the “Black Star” of Africa. Observers the world over recognize the country's longstanding democratic civil rule since 1992, which also witnessed several transitional developments. "Guinean leader, H.E Professor Alpha Condé, has been invited by President John Mahama to Ghana's Independence Anniversary in fulfilment of a desire to deepen existing relations with Ghana’s long-standing friendly neighb ...
ON “FREE SHS”, ONLY A FOOL DOES NOT CHANGE HIS MIND A wise person has said that “Give me new facts and I will change my mind”. Another wise saying is, “Only a fool does not change his mind”. Our President has apparently received some new facts and as a result signaled a change of mind with regard to educating our children when he read his State of the Nation Address in Parliament last week. I agreed with President John Dramani Mahama when in his 2013 State of the Nation Address said: “Mr. Speaker, our quest to build an equitable society in which the productive capacities of our people are tapped for national development will come to naught if we do not give our children sound, meaningful and relevant education. This is even more imperative in today’s knowledge-based economy. Any nation whose people do not have the required level of education will be left behind.” But his goal with regard to education last year was to “expand access”. The performance in this area was mixed, with ...

"We are in the midst of change. And change can feel uncomfortable, especially as it pulls us away from the systems and practices with which we have become familliar, but are no longer serving our needs efficiently. Without change, Mr. Speaker, Ghana cannot grow. Change is what will propel us forward, as a Nation, to all that lies ahead."-President John Dramani Mahama (Tuesday February 25th, 2014) so in effect Pastor Mensa Otabil only re-echoed what the President told all of us last Tuesday.

President Mahama advises youth against road blockades = President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday called on the youth of the country to desist from the practice of blocking roads and burning car tyres to call for construction of their roads. He said much as government had the responsibility to provide infrastructure for her citizens including roads, such provisions could not be done simultaneously in the country. “I want to therefore call on the youth to exercise restraint for government to provide the roads for all communities in the coming years,”President Mahama added. President Mahama said this when he commissioned a 60km rehabilitated Assin-Asante Bekwai Road at Praso in the Central Region as part of the his two-day official visit to the region. The road which was funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency is a two-way, two lane single carriage way with sub base course of 200 mm of gravel material and 140 mm of asphaltic concrete. President Mahama Promises Completion Of Aboabo Market President John Dramani Mahama yesterday announced that the multi-purpose storey Aboabo Market in Tamale, which had been abandoned for years, would be completed during his tenure of office. He said funds had been sourced for the completion of the market which started during the regime late Head of State General Kutu Acheampong. President Mahama said this in Tamale during the inauguration of the first phase of the Tamale Teaching Hospital facelift project and sod cutting ceremony for work to begin on the second phase that will cost 48.5 million euros. Late President Atta Mills, in April 2010, cut the sod for the refurbishment of the Hospital with 39.3 million euros jointly funded by the Dutch government and the Ghana government. President Mahama said Tamale was growing fast and that the market, when completed, would boost the economy and many investors would move to the metropolis. President Mahama Delivers State Of The Nation Address On Tuesday President John Dramani Mahama is expected in his State of the Nation Address on Tuesday to extensively look at the economy and announce further measures aimed towards diversifying the economy. Incentives for Ghana's Private Sector and shifting from over dependence on the country's traditional export commodities like Gold and Cocoa will also feature in the address. Director of Communications at the Presidency, Ben Dotsei Malor, says Ghanaians should not expect promises in the President's address as President Mahama's focus is not to become popular but work to address the many challenges confronting the ordinary Ghanaian. A presidential staffer, Dr Clement Apaak, told Radio Ghana’s correspondent that the President will also talk about steps government has taken to fight corruption. Meanwhile, the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT, says it expects President Mahama to give report on the status of the new pension scheme in his state ...

Credible information reaching the New Statesman newspaper indicates that President John Dramani Mahama has finally decided to make his Vice President, Paa Kwasi Amissah-Arthur, a one-term Vice President in favour of a candidate from the region where his wife, Lordina Mahama, hails from. Some gurus of the National Democratic Congress in the Brong Ahafo region have hinted the ‘New Statesman’ that current Minister for Ashanti Region, who hails from the Brong Ahafo region and a former Minister in that region, Eric Opoku, is being groomed for the position of Vice President. Vice President Amissah-Arthur, according to deep throat sources in the NDC, was from day-one a term Vice President, as ‘the powers above,’ including President Mahama, had already penciled down Hannah Tetteh, Minister for Foreign Affairs, to succeed Amissah Arthur in the run-up to the 2016 elections. Mr. Amissah-Arthur, who was a “favorite:” of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, was chosen to ensure that the party’s supp ...

and now here is what i dont get. we have always called for participatory and consultative democracy where every good and feasible idea or ideas no matter where it is coming from, opposition or incumbent party member, should be considered and where possible implemented. more so when such an idea is grounded on legal or constitutional backing we cannot but consider it. So why should it be CALLED a "stolen" idea when in the wisdom of the President John Dramani Mahama, based on a recommendation of a technical committee, a Progressive Free education, is THE WAY TO GO? and when their ideas or input to national discourse is disregarded in future, they will sit on their hiding tails and complain.
President John Dramani Mahama will on Tuesday, 25th February 2014, go by the constitution by delivering the State of the Nation Address before Parliament. The address is expected to focus on the economy, the energy situation and challenges facing the provision of water as well as challenges in the educational, health and agricultural sectors in the country. However, Atik Mohammed, Policy Analyst of the People’s National Convention strongly believes President Mahama would have evaded the address if had the option. “I am sure if it wasn’t a constitutional requirement, he would have dodged it. If I were the President, I won’t waste everybody’s time going through the problems; we are all feeling it. We don’t need a rocket scientist to tell us what is happening in the country…I do not see anything dramatic in what he will say tomorrow,” he said on ‘Kokrokoo’ Monday. To him, President Mahama should tell the nation what is being done to solve the problems facing the economy and not re-echo th ...

This means that the economy is expanding." -- President John Dramani Mahama ... ... ok let's analyse the true meaning of one of these jargons or technical terminologies the ndc government seems to take extreme positive pride in: 'ECONOMIC GROWTH' ... Economic growth defined: Economic growth is the increase in the market value of the goods and services produced by an economy over time. It is conventionally measured as the percent rate of increase in real gross domestic product, or real GDP. Accra (AFP) - Ghana needs to make "fundamental" changes to its economy if it is to protect its currency and allow its markets to continue growing steadily, President John Dramani Mahama said on Tuesday. West Africa's second-largest economy has attracted international interest in recent years because of its promising oil reserves, relative political stability and high growth rates. But a weakening currency and concerns that fluctuations in global prices of major export commodities such as gold and cocoa have raised fears of a slow down. The cedi exchange rate has dropped to a record low, as investors ran shy of emerging markets after the US Federal Reserve scaled back its stimulus programme. That prompted Ghana's central bank last week to imposed new controls on the movement of foreign currency, including restricting the size of withdrawals. Mahama told foreign journalists in Accra that the currency's struggles were a sign that it was time to restructure the way Ghana trades. "One of the visions of this go ...
Sayibu Hamza Suhuyini why are u surprised people are happy over the cedi depreciation? Our friends on the other side believe that the only way they can come to power is that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama must fail. The effect is that once he fails,Ghanaians will automatically vote for the npp. The question is not about competitiveness of ideas, superiority of economic programmes and policies but somebody must fail, for me to rise. It is not about any superior policy alternatives. But I have a different take, out of crisis, great leaders are formed.I can see serious crisis managers. Diagnosing the problem and crafting home grown solutions, the effect may not be sudden but it will be lasting. Cheers,it is a Ghanaian thing.

President John Dramani Mahama has called for unity in the fight against what he termed "political or economic challenges" facing the country.
"I thank and salute the wise Ghanaian politicians who understand that the right attitude in such times is to assist the government and stop predicting disasters. Because, in a democratic country such as ours, the government is the people's government. It is your government. And it does everything necessary to lead our country and to attain the development goals it has announced. A nation has to be united when facing any kind of political or economic challenges." The Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight, Ken Kuranchie has slammed government over the fast depreciation in the cedi as against the dollar currency. “You take 52 million cedis (520 billion) and give it to a person like Alfred Agbesi Woyome; it’s either you’re acting under satanic influences or rather your brain has stopped to work. “What we need is not prayer. We need brain surgery,” he told President John Dramani Mahama and his government.

I am currently attending a ministerial retreat with his excellency the President John Dramani Mahama at the Kofi Annan International Peace Centre in Accra. The president wants to walk along with his team with the same tune. The retreat is on the heels of a mid-year review of the economy with the ministers and economic team. These meetings were very exciting and helpful particularly those of us who just joined the team. The President by these meetings has clearly demonstrated the essence of team play in government business. I am returning to my region with new ideas and more committed to deliver service to the people of the Upper West.

I read on the post of some of my npp friends, the claim is that Chairman Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey is a failure and must therefore be changed. What I do not understand is that the very people demanding that Jake be changed are the same people campaigning for the retention of Hon Nana Addo as Presidential candidate in the 2016 elections. It is quite interesting that,in the 2008 elections,Chairman Peter MacManu and the other executives were blamed for the defeat of the party in that election, arguably the most expensive election campaign undertaken by the npp,it is in this regard that Nana Addo had Jake and co elected to his second coming. These new executives lost the elections after President John Dramani Mahama campaigned for only 50 days. Is the problem the Jake led executives or the candidate the npp presented to the electorates? How can u ask for JAKE to be changed because he has failed and not ask that Nana Addo should even attempt contesting? He had two different sets of executives and still lost,d ...

Mahama catches cold as NDC crises deepens The Al-Hajj can today report that if what is going on in the Nigeria’s governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is anything to go by, then President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana should brace himself for a potential spill-over of the fratricidal political strife in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party and government he is currently leading. It can be clearly seen from the current happenings in Nigeria that President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, whose ascension to the pantheon of executive throne in Nigeria is similar to that of President Mahama of Ghana, is on his way out of power after his stubborn refusal to heed the numerous calls from his party to step aside and allow the conventional regional rotation of leadership to take place in the most populous African country. Scores of state governors with the governing PDP in Nigeria recently defected to the new opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) rendering the ruling party with fewer go ...

Wang, who is on a four-nation African tour, called 2014 a year of “ever-deepening reform” in China, with the target of “national rejuvenation.” “The 1.3 billion people of China are working towards the modernization of our country, something if achieved will be never-before seen in the history of mankind,” he said. “Yet we have the confidence and the capability to achieve that strategic goal and in that process we are most willing to grow and prosper together with our African brothers.” China has increasingly eyed Africa to fuel and fund its burgeoning economy, which last year is estimated to have grown 7.6 percent, according to a government report. Senior ministers and presidents Hu Jintao to Xi Jinping have pe ...

Many well-meaning Ghanaians, including key members of the National Democratic Congress, such as former President Rawlings and Alban Sumana Bagbin, former Minority and Majority Leader, have criticized President John Dramani Mahama over his decision to appoint some mediocre people to serve in his government. According to them, some of the president’s appointees do not have what it takes to run the offices they are occupying. Former President Rawlings, who is the founder of the NDC, has even called for immediate reshuffle to get rid of the mediocre appointees to ensure delivery of quality governance to the nation. But President Mahama appeared unmoved by the criticisms, when he asked his critics to leave him alone to do his work. The president said he has the prerogative to choose who to work with in his government, telling his critics: “You can express your opinions but I am the coach. Leave the coach to do his work.” Mr. Mahama was answering questions from journalists at a press briefing to mark the ...

This has to do with a petition from a middle-level Immigration Officer, Mr. Joseph Anthony Ayienaab, who is alleging that his boss, Commissioner of Police (COP) Dr. Peter Wiredu, together with Commissioner of Police (COP) in-charge of Headquarters Administration, Rose Bio Atinga had set him up as their errand-boy in a huge visa fraud. Now that the alarm has blown; the two senior police officers have abandoned the errand-boy, interdicted him together with those who fell victim to the alleged visa fraud. Mahama challenges critics to take pay cuts President John Dramani Mahama has justified the decision of the Executive to cut their salaries by 10 percent to support health care delivery, especially in rural areas, and challenged others to follow the example. He said if all public sector employees followed the example and gave just two percent of their salaries to build Community Health Programme and Service (CHPS) compounds, “we’ll be able to build 2,000 CHIPS compounds across the country”. Launching the Campaign for Accelerated Maternal Mortality in Africa (CARMMA) and the Newborn Health Week celebration accountability report in Accra last Saturday, President Mahama urged others to follow the initiative by the government, instead of criticising it. The CARMMA accountability report, entitled, "Rising to Meet the Challenge of Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Ghana", captures the achievable commitments from 10 regions and 175 districts in the country to reduce maternal mortality. Mahama can be impeached over Waterville, Isofoton scandals – Amidu Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama is not serious about fighting the corruption menace that has engulfed his administration, accusing him of engaging in “opportunism, propaganda and downright disingenuity” with his public utterances about the fight against the canker. Mr Amidu added that he was amazed that the president was expecting “the support and involvement of all Ghanaians to sustain this fight against corruption”, wondering how Ghanaians could do so “when the President who utters these supposedly noble words is not known to encourage those who have already shown the way in the fight against corruption upon the success of their endeavours.” He noted that “When Government uses the power at its disposal to victimize and continue to victimize those who have and still fight against corruption, abuse of power and impunity, such exhortations on public ...
The trick and the plan is gradually becoming clear to us as we inch on in our development as a nation. More especially as clear as crystal simply because Presidnent Mahama is the one in the driving seat driving us to the promised land against some people's will. But, their tricks and diabolics would fail as we have long discovered them. They have seen President John Dramani Mahama as a fairly young president who has the capacity as compared to Nana Addo Danwuah Akuffo Addo whom they are trying hard to bring back for a 3rd 'world war' as a student who sat 2 remedial classes and still failed and appearing for a 3rd which he still fear losing without carrying 'apor' along. The dream of the NPP in relation to seeing Nana Afdo in power is to see President Mahama to fail. That is the only ticket and nothing else. All plans have been put in place just as they promised that should they lose the 2012 elections which they actually lost, they will make this country ungovernable. We are not surprised. For this reason ...

BREAKING NEWS: General News of Saturday, 16 November 2013 Source: graphic.com.gh We’re committed to uplifting our people — Mahama Mahama Nice President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the government is committed to improving the lives of Ghanaians, even though the challenges are enormous. “Even though it has been a long and tortuous journey, we are ever committed to upholding our dignity and uplifting the lives of our people from the grip of ignorance, poverty and diseases,” he said. In a keynote address read on his behalf at a day’s national dialogue held in Accra yesterday, President Mahama said, although Ghana had had its fair share of woeful struggles in the past, with good leadership, a collective determination and the commitment to multi-party democracy, Ghana had become a peaceful democratic nation, a safe haven and a beacon of hope for Africa. The dialogue, organised by the Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was on the theme: “Sustaining Pea ...

The New Patriotic Party is shocked at the damning revelations made by, now former deputy Minister of Communications, Victoria Hammah that the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition delivered by Justice William Atuguba on the 29th of August was influenced by the government of President John Dramani Mahama. The dismissal of Victoria Hammah coupled with the deafening silence of President Mahama and his government in not denying the statements by Victoria Hammah, as contained in her dismissal letter, could only mean that they are true and factual. According to Victoria Hammah, "I learnt even before the verdict, Nana (Oye Lithur) was with the Justices and all that. You don’t know the role she has played for us to win the court case." The question is what role did a Minister of State in the Mahama government have to play to secure victory for her boss, if indeed, the respondents knew the petitioners had no case? The Election Petition filed by the petitioners was grounded on evidence gathered and now Gh ...

Parliament agreed to the pay rise earlier this week in a session that was not televised. Last month President John Dramani Mahama authorised an increase in MPs' pay. The BBC's Sammy Darko in Ghana says both rises will be backdated to 2009 - which has caused a public outcry. Our reporter says news of the pay increase, agreed by MPs for the executive, was slow to emerge because it took place in a closed-door session on Tuesday night. This has angered Ghana Integrity Initiative which says such decisions should be debated in public. "We have the right t ...

We, the people of Ghana need to take immediate steps to change the disgraceful image which John Dramani Mahama, has per his corrupt character, created for the nation both internally and externally. The Chief Justice of Ghana has rightly made relevant comments about the scandals but has unfortunately failed to recommend a solution to the moral decadence that has eaten into the judiciary as well as the presidency. Georgina Wood, jsc, must be bold to accept that Ghana has a corrupt president and a corrupt judiciary ! Why would Georgina Wood not get sarkawa Justices William Atuguba, Akoto Bamfo and Baffoe- Bonnie to team up with worthy sons of Ghana of the type and calibre of Alban Bagbin, Dr. Tony Aidoo, Martin Amidu and the rest to stop President John Dramani Mahama from subverting the economy of Ghana, the practice of cronism, nepotism, bribery and corruption ??

Last evening I went to the National Theater in Accra. The house was full, with all seats taken in the main hall, as well as in the two decks above. Everybody was there: H.E. President John Dramani Mahama was there, so was the former President, H.E. Jerry John Rawlings, and politicians, traditional chiefs, diplomats, artists, and ordinary men and women. The programme was very well staged and choreographed, with carefully crafted statements, poems, traditional music and dances, from virtually all corners of Ghana, to entertain the audience, as well as to *** our collective conscience, in reflection of the late Professor's life. the Obama styled presidency where half of the time is spent on demystifying the position of the most powerful man on a land include taking of pictures that despite staged are not normally pics and short videos that emanate from the the presidency. Ghanaian poet Kofi Awoonor among victims of Nairobi mall attack By Carol J. Williams 4:56 p.m. CDT, September 22, 2013 Ghanaian poet Kofi Awoonor, one of Africa's most distinguished literary figures, was among the scores of people killed by Al Qaeda-aligned terrorists who attacked a busy shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, over the weekend. Awoonor, 78, was killed Saturday when members of Al Shabab, a Somali-based militia, seized the Westgate Shopping Mall in a hail of bullets in Kenya's worst terrorist attack in years. "I am shocked to hear the death of professor Kofi Awoonor in the Nairobi mall terrorist attack. Such a sad twist of fate," Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama said in a statement from Accra, Ghana's capital. Awoonor's son was among the nearly 200 injured in the attack, the statement noted. African and Middle Eastern news agencies said Awoonor was in Kenya for the 2013 Storymoja Hay Festival — an event celebrating the art of storytelling with readings, workshops and discussions. The festi ...
