Bagbin Confirmed Majority Leader Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has been confirmed as Majority Leader of Parliament. He takes over from Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, who was last Wednesday named Minister of Defence by President John Dramani Mahama. The leadership of Mr Bagbin of the Majority in Parliament is said to have been endorsed by leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the party’s Parliamentary caucus. This will be the second time Mr Bagbin will be leading the majority after doing so in the first year of late Professor John Evans Atta Mills' presidency. He had led the NDC in Minority in the Fourth Parliament of the Fourth Republic. One of the legislators of the House since the return to multi-party democracy in 1992, Mr Bagbin will be in charge of Government Business in Parliament by virtue of his new position.
A former National Youth Organiser of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has slammed President John Dramani Mahama and his appointees for woefully managing the economy, and subsequently asked them ‘to bow their heads in shame’. He expressed disappointment in the Mahama-led administration lamenting that "people are dying in Ghana as a result of negligence and insensitivity on the part of the government."

President John Dramani Mahama, is one President who is beginning to let me appreciate that, politics, as dirty as it is professed to be is a game for friends and or cronies and not the question of the citizenry. Why he can't fire, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, immediately compose a Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate Ghana's World Cup disaster continuous to haunt me. Two issues greeted my return to Kumasi from Sandema today. Foremost, a Policy Document ahead of the World Cup by Elvis, sickens me. The 60 page overly ambitious document I has sighted is a crystal hand-writing on the wall why the Minister must have been interdicted and investigated. Secondly, I have watched repeatedly a video of an interview between Patrick Osei Agyemang, aka, Countryman Songo in which the President of the Ghana Football Association is seen boasting that Ghana were better prepared than most countries n Europe and that Ghana would be in the semi-finals and God will the grand finale of the on-going FIFA World Cup in Brazi ...

Transforming Ghana is calling on Ghanaians - One Thousand-Man March in support of H.E. John Dramani Mahama (piece written by George Ekegey Ekeha Koku Mawuli Nanagbe and Ohenenana Krow ) Beloved countrymen and women, our country is going through some tough times, and it is important to recall that no less a person than President John Dramani Mahama himself has acknowledged that fact. It is also important to recognize that through his actions and policy initiatives, President Mahama is working towards reversing the negatives, especially the economic indicators. The good news is that some of the stringent measures taken by the government are yielding good results. Economic statistics suggest that the situation is improving although we would all like the pace to be faster. It is clear that some of these ad-hoc measures were politically difficult to take, but the President put the national interest ahead of pure political considerations. That is why we must support President John Mahama in his quest to bette . ...

This was contained in a petition issued on Monday in Wa to mark the African Union Day of the African Child which was organised by the Community Development Alliance. So when would politicians stop using God's name in vain? In 2012, both Nana Akuffo Addo and President John Mahama echoed continually that God has chosen them to lead the country. Now President John Dramani Mahama is in charge but appears he is unable to locate his bearing - still in 1st gear I suppose. Perhaps 'true' men of God can educate me on how God can elect a leader for that leader to perform abysmally. Presently, NPP Presidential Aspirants Asamoah Boateng and Allan Kyeremanteng have dug out the God factor in their bid for the post. Asamoah Boateng conferred deeply with God and Allan believes God is leading him for one single post - how possible? Is the situation in Ghana a reflection of how people have foolishly using the name of God in vain including leaders who ought to know better? God have mercy!

Black Stars Risk Blackout for Games as Ivory Coast Favors Needs Ivory Coast said it will probably only supply its neighbor Ghana with half of the electricity requested to ensure that fans of the national team, known as the Black Stars, don’t face blackouts during the World Cup. President Alassane Ouattara will make the final decision regarding Ghana’s request for 50 megawatts, Ivory Coast Energy Minister Adama Toungara said. Ben Dotsei Malor, a spokesman for Ghana President John Dramani Mahama, didn’t immediately comment when reached by phone. Ghana asked the nation’s largest aluminum smelter to cut electricity consumption and homeowners to unplug appliances during the Black Stars’ matches to make sure that planned outages don’t prevent citizens from watching games. Ghana will probably ration power through next year because of a shortage of natural gas and low water levels at hydroelectric plants. The West African nation of 24 million people was knocked out of the 2010 World Cup in South Afric ...
It's always been promises. Nigeria is giving us gas. Ivory Coast is giving us power. Bui is going to provide us about 300 megawatts and all that. I think the real natural disaster that ever happened in Ghana was President John Dramani Mahama himself. And in the midst of all these woes, he would be bold enough to tell us in the face that "it's an act of God". Leadership crises being translated into economic crises. Where did we go wrong as a nation. Power cuts on our independence anniversary, election day and now, the all important World Cup? I sigh in disbelieve.

They protested against the revocation of the appointment of their Member of Parliament (MP), Akwasi Oppong-Fosu as Local Government Minister by the President on Friday, May 29, 2014. Clad in red attire, the demonstrators carried placards and marched through the principal streets of the area amid brass band music and chanting of war songs. Some of the placards read, “President Mahama hear the cry of the people of Amenfi”, “Mahama, don’t send NDC to opposition in Amenfi”, “Fosu is a leader of today”, “Fosu can deliver, give him another chance and “Oppong-Fosu is a man of integrity. ECOWAS members’ states have been gathered for an extraordinary summit in the Ghanaian capital, Accra. They have been discussing ways to effectively address the security crisis in Mali and Nigeria. In Mali, Tuareg separatists have again been clashing with government troops, and winning. In Nigeria the threat from Boko Haram remains top priority. The group is still holding hundreds of schoolgirls kidnapped nearly two months ago. Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama says all necessary measures need to be used to prevent instability in one country affecting the entire region.

Mr Segbefia will be vetted because he's been nominated for the first time. Mr Bosiako-Sekyere because he's promoted from a deputy ministerial position to that of a substantive Minister. Mr Julius Debrah and Mr Yaw Effah Baafi will not be "vetted" since they have only been "transferred" from one ministerial position to the other (of same standing). President Mahama urges military to deal with security threats President John Dramani Mahama has charged the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to restrategise to deal with the emerging global security threats. He said terrorism and other security threats were becoming more sophisticated, and the armed forces needed to re-engineer their strategies to meet the challenge. Interacting with officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp Tuesday, Mr. Mahama cited Boko Haram's atrocities in Nigeria as one of the challenges and said such activities constituted a dangerous threat that the Ghana Armed Forces must keep an eye on. Before the durbar, the President had inspected some ongoing projects for the armed forces. They include a helipad constructed for the 37 Military Hospital emergency evacuation, as well as housing units at Burma Camp. Subsidies Of Tertiary Institutions Not Withdrawn –Sam George A member of Government’s Communication Team, Samuel George has refuted speculations in a section of the media that the government has withdrawn all subsidies associated with its tertiary institutions. This follows government directive to public tertiary institutions and state agencies to pay for their own utility bills. The leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) led by its President, Sammy Dakwa Binfoh, subsequently threatened government it will hit the streets if the directive is adhered to. NUGS argued that some tertiary institutions in the country are shifting the total cost to students, describing the directive as a deliberate attempt to bring hardship on students. TRULY WORKING FOR YOU. The new phase of the 98-mile (157.71km) stretch of FUFULSO-DAMONGO-SAWLA which until July 2012 was one of the most neglected roads in the region. Just when the people of Gonjaland had lost hope of having the Fufulso-Damongo-Sawla road constructed, the then Vice President John Dramani Mahama performed a groundbreaking ceremony signifying the construction of the entire stretch of road. Per the contract, communities along the Fufulso-Damongo-Sawla road are to benefit from a modern educational infrastructure, market, hospitals and a lorry park under the fufulso- Damongo-Sawla road construction project. The contract would involve the provision of portable water to all the communities along the road, rehabilitation of all dilapidated schools, construction of health posts as well as CHPS Compounds and construction of a modern accident center at the Damongo District Hospital. BETWEEN President John Mahama AND NANA ADDO, WHO WOULD BE SAID TO HATE ASANTIS? In no attempt to whip up tribal sentiments, I would urge readers to interrogate the issues that would be raised in this piece. Just last week, we were inundated with attempts to twist a speech purportedly made by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama during his three-day Regional tour of the Ashanti Region. This tour came a week ahead of the celebration of the Akwasidae but made a promise to join in the celebration of the occasion. True to his words, he joined the presidential jet and touched down at the Kumasi Airport on Saturday, a day ahead of the Akwasidae celebrations. All was set for the day and he delivered his speech which was a masterpiece as is usual of him. This was the man who was branded as having insulted Ashantis in a voice recording that was doctored to meet a political spin. The doctored tape was a subject for discussion which never ceased even after an original tape was released which was a direct oppo ...

A spokesperson for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Security apparatus of masterminding a near-murder attack on his boss; Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly called Chairman Wontumi, on Thursday, May 8, 2014. Speaking in an interview with Peacefmonline.com, the Spokesperson who gave his name as Richster Oscar disclosed that the current National Security Coordinator, Mr. Yaw Donkor and a section of the Security service deployed officers led by one Emmanuel Amedeka to the Ashanti Region around 6pm to ambush Chairman Wontumi. “They came by flight and later used an unmarked vehicle but their activities were being monitored by us constantly," he revealed. According to Oscar, they were reliably informed that the officers have been given instructions to "kill" the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, simply because he (Chairman Wontumi) had granted an interview to an Accra-based radio station, Neat 100.9 FM and slammed President John Dramani Mahama for "disrespecti ...
I will not be a promoter of hate speech neither will I encourage or endorse the use of foul or derogatory language against any tribe or group of persons or individuals in this country of ours. For those who have falsibily docted the President Kumasi speech with the intention of inciting Ashantis or the good people of the Ashanti against President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC party may have embarked on a very dangerous but useless exercise because such negative and divisive propaganda machinations will never fly once the ORIGINAL TAPE has been put out there in the public domain by the Presidency. But for those who may wonder why a political party like the NPP is engaging in such stone-age tactics and divisive propaganda to capture political power in modern day Ghana may just need to take this Dagbani old adage as a guide that ''Even when you are swimming water, your detractors/opponents/enemies will always accuse you of generating dust when completely there is none'' So it is not surprising that some np ...
I was shocked today when i visited the Akomaa Memorial SDA Hospital in Kortwia, Abodom in the Ashanti Region and had tears in ma eyes! Staff complaining bitterly about the changes that would be affecting the Hospital. The head of Administration being a family friend told me if with the new initiative from the Government it to work with the hospital, then they have to use this stats. Work for 4 months and use one month's avenue (income or money they make) just to pay Electricity Bills, this is just for a small hospital not even with the banglows attached to it! wow! what is going on. President John Dramani Mahama please take a look at these hospitals in the rural areas which is serving our old men and women there!!! Thanks

Mahama didn’t speak against Ashantis - Ashanti RCC The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has explained that President John Dramani Mahama did not say Ashantis were unappreciative of efforts made by his Government to bring development to the region. The President, who was addressing party supporters at the Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi, suggested that even if his government constructed roads made of gold in Kumasi, it would not be appreciated. Making his point, he stated, “The Akans have a saying that, the hen never pleases the hawk no matter how well she dances. But that shouldn’t discourage us. We have noted the promise we made to Ghanaians for which we were voted into power. Some people, even if we construct roads tarred with gold in Kumasi, they will tell us that we did nothing”. The comments have gone viral on numerous news portals, social media and television and radio discussions with several people reading an array of meanings into the president’s public speech in Kumasi. Our party used to be called the party of the poor, the illiterates, buga buga people, market women, farmers among others. With time we have solidified this position and moved to capture the emerging young votes, largely sophisticated and desirous of seeing changes in the country. The party has become more attractive to others than the usual rural folks. The performance of the party in the urban areas has improved significantly. Party is more diversified now. It is my prayer that the leadership of the party would work hard to maintain this critical development. With respect,I would urge the leader of the party now,President John Dramani Mahama to double the efforts at job creation, improving the image of govt in the fight against corruption, consolidating the existing social intervention programmes and working on the fundamentals of the economy. President John Dramani Mahama is promising to use his office as the Chairman of ECOWAS to rally support in aid of Guinea Bissau, as the country goes through difficult financial times. The President made the assurance when he paid a visit to Guinea Bissau to apprise himself of preparations made so far towards their elections this Sunday. Guinea Bissau’s presidential and legislative elections on April 13 is aimed at helping to restore democracy two years after a coup that thwarted a previous election and triggered an economic slide in the former Portuguese colony. Briefing the media moments after returning to Accra, President Mahama indicated that the response to the meetings where positive. He, however, said owing to the dire economic situation that has bedeviled them, ECOWAS would have to intervene by rallying economic support from donor partners for Guinea Bissau.

Amandzeba Turned Down Offer As Deputy Minister For Tourism, Culture And Creative Arts Legendary musician, Amandzeba Nat Brew apparently was offered the post of Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts but he turned it down. Amandzeba, who has years of experience in the music and the creative arts industry, said he turned down the offer by President John Dramani Mahama because it would have interfered with his music career. According to him, the reasons are personal. He said it was practically impossible to handle a ministerial portfolio while remaining active in the music industry. He explained that as a Deputy Minister, his post would have also interfered with his work as the Deputy Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization. The Deputy Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts ministerial position is currently occupied by Dzifa Abla Gomashie.

This move is in the right direction since opposition parties failed to perform their constitutional mandates in supporting the ruling government and are always scared about the success of the ruling government for their parochial interest instead of that of Ghanaians who have elected them into office. It is hard time to have a larger consultation with Ghanaian populace for our way forward and this has come at the right time. I should be visiting Ghana by end of June, 2014 but I will do my best to contribute my quota. Thanks Mr President John Dramani Mahama.

so why do lots of male folks engage in gossiping, undercutting and backstabbing others in Ghanaian politics like that?. I hear this currently happens frequently amongst the young appointees of the John Mahama led Govt paa? This ugly character trait is no longer a preserve for our women folk like we've been made to believe rightly or wrongly. What is even more disgraceful is that, these vices have become weapons by which some intend to rise to fame as well as make or unmake others while others religiously depend on same for their survival in Govt including maintaining and courting friendship within the corridors of power. How cheap can it get?, no wonder some appointees if not most have proven to be empty shells and failures in their respective portfolios. Now I can understand why some who traversed night and day including risking their lives for the election of President John Dramani Mahama are today cursing their stars for all the efforts and asking in soliloquy was it worth it after all?. Its a pity!

What I Will Tell The President If I Meet Him After almost three months break, I am back on the block because of the numerous issues that need to be discussed and brought to the attention of the President. I have for some time now been brooding over some of these issues and I have been wondering how I can pass them on to President John Dramani Mahama. I have on a few occasions, since 2001, had the privilege of interacting with former President John Agyekum Kufuor and President Mahama (since his days as Vice President) and was able to tell them one or two things bothering the people they governed. I am still looking for another opportunity to meet President Mahama to tell him about some of the pressing issues that need urgent attention, which could possibly put back the smiles on the faces of those suffering such cruel fate, as well as restore the conf ...

THE BIG ISSUE (PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS) President John Dramani Mahama, on Independence Day, advocated that every day be declared “Ghana Day” to inculcate the culture of depending on local consumption in the citizenry. Ghana marks its 57th Independence Anniversary today Thursday, 6 March, 2014 with parades across the country. The theme for this year's celebrations is " Building a Better and Prosperous Ghana through Patriotism and national Unity". President John Dramani Mahama will address a national parade of school children and Security personnel at the Black Star Square in Accra. Ghana is the first black African country, south of the Sahara, to gain independence from Britain on March 6, 1957 with Kwame Nkrumah as its first leader. Nkrumah envisioned the country as a guiding light in African independence and solidarity, the “Black Star” of Africa. Observers the world over recognize the country's longstanding democratic civil rule since 1992, which also witnessed several transitional developments. "Guinean leader, H.E Professor Alpha Condé, has been invited by President John Mahama to Ghana's Independence Anniversary in fulfilment of a desire to deepen existing relations with Ghana’s long-standing friendly neighb ...
ON “FREE SHS”, ONLY A FOOL DOES NOT CHANGE HIS MIND A wise person has said that “Give me new facts and I will change my mind”. Another wise saying is, “Only a fool does not change his mind”. Our President has apparently received some new facts and as a result signaled a change of mind with regard to educating our children when he read his State of the Nation Address in Parliament last week. I agreed with President John Dramani Mahama when in his 2013 State of the Nation Address said: “Mr. Speaker, our quest to build an equitable society in which the productive capacities of our people are tapped for national development will come to naught if we do not give our children sound, meaningful and relevant education. This is even more imperative in today’s knowledge-based economy. Any nation whose people do not have the required level of education will be left behind.” But his goal with regard to education last year was to “expand access”. The performance in this area was mixed, with ...

and now here is what i dont get. we have always called for participatory and consultative democracy where every good and feasible idea or ideas no matter where it is coming from, opposition or incumbent party member, should be considered and where possible implemented. more so when such an idea is grounded on legal or constitutional backing we cannot but consider it. So why should it be CALLED a "stolen" idea when in the wisdom of the President John Dramani Mahama, based on a recommendation of a technical committee, a Progressive Free education, is THE WAY TO GO? and when their ideas or input to national discourse is disregarded in future, they will sit on their hiding tails and complain.

Accra (AFP) - Ghana needs to make "fundamental" changes to its economy if it is to protect its currency and allow its markets to continue growing steadily, President John Dramani Mahama said on Tuesday. West Africa's second-largest economy has attracted international interest in recent years because of its promising oil reserves, relative political stability and high growth rates. But a weakening currency and concerns that fluctuations in global prices of major export commodities such as gold and cocoa have raised fears of a slow down. The cedi exchange rate has dropped to a record low, as investors ran shy of emerging markets after the US Federal Reserve scaled back its stimulus programme. That prompted Ghana's central bank last week to imposed new controls on the movement of foreign currency, including restricting the size of withdrawals. Mahama told foreign journalists in Accra that the currency's struggles were a sign that it was time to restructure the way Ghana trades. "One of the visions of this go ...
Sayibu Hamza Suhuyini why are u surprised people are happy over the cedi depreciation? Our friends on the other side believe that the only way they can come to power is that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama must fail. The effect is that once he fails,Ghanaians will automatically vote for the npp. The question is not about competitiveness of ideas, superiority of economic programmes and policies but somebody must fail, for me to rise. It is not about any superior policy alternatives. But I have a different take, out of crisis, great leaders are formed.I can see serious crisis managers. Diagnosing the problem and crafting home grown solutions, the effect may not be sudden but it will be lasting. Cheers,it is a Ghanaian thing.

"I thank and salute the wise Ghanaian politicians who understand that the right attitude in such times is to assist the government and stop predicting disasters. Because, in a democratic country such as ours, the government is the people's government. It is your government. And it does everything necessary to lead our country and to attain the development goals it has announced. A nation has to be united when facing any kind of political or economic challenges." The Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight, Ken Kuranchie has slammed government over the fast depreciation in the cedi as against the dollar currency. “You take 52 million cedis (520 billion) and give it to a person like Alfred Agbesi Woyome; it’s either you’re acting under satanic influences or rather your brain has stopped to work. “What we need is not prayer. We need brain surgery,” he told President John Dramani Mahama and his government.
