If Baldini wants to prove his worth, then nows the time.. MG .- Mattia Destro looks set to leave Roma this month after reports claimed on Monday evening that the 23-year-old striker will have a medical with Milan on Wednesday. According to Sportmediaset, Milan have moved quickly after Stephan El Shaarawy's injury to arrange a medical for Destro this Wednesday ahead of a loan move. Roma have only agreed to the loan move - claims transfer market journalist Alfredo Pedulla - as it contains a mandatory purchase clause which must be effected at the end of the season, to the tune of €20m according to Milannews.it. However Vocegiallorossa.it have played down the claims, reporting that sources at Trigoria have denied that Destro is set for a medical with the Rossoneri. Instead, they report that talks with Tottenham Hotspur are continuing after the Premier Leag ...

Tottenham Hotspur come from behind to beat Burnley 4-2 and advance to fourth-round in FA Cup: Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to turn around a losing game into a victory as they beat Burnley 4-2 to set up a fourth-round tie with Leicester City in the FA Cup. Burnley lead 2-0 within nine minutes of the game, thanks to striker Marvin Sordell's striker in the third minute and Scottish winger Ross Wallace's deflected free-kick four minutes later. However, Brazilian midfielder Paulinho pulled a goal back for the hosts from close range before Etienne Capoue equalised with a firm strike from 20 yards just before half-time, the BBC reported. Tottenham took the lead when Vlad Chiriches forced in Paulinho's corner four minutes after half-time and Danny Rose converted Roberto Soldado's low cross to make it 4-2. Manager Mauricio Pochettino made seven changes to the Tottenham squad who were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday and it looked to have backfired as Burnley took advantage of so ...

Stuttering Chelsea retained their Premier League lead by virtue of the alphabet heading into the New Year but will need a quick riposte at home to Newcastle United on Saturday to hold Manchester City at bay. Jose Mourinho's side gleaned a mere four points from nine during a frenzy of holiday fixtures and a humbling 5-3 loss at Tottenham Hotspur on January 1 meant champions City restored parity at the top having at one stage trailed by eight points. An easy FA Cup win over second tier Watford offered Chelsea a breather, but they host managerless Newcastle knowing their margin for error between now and May is miniscule.

2014 Review: Month by month - Part One This was the year Arsenal finally got their hands on more silverware. Here, in our review of 2014, we reflect on how it all unfolded, starting with January to July… Theo Walcott celebrates his goal against Cardiff City JANUARY Having finished 2013 with back-to-back away wins over West Ham and Newcastle, the Gunners rang in the New Year with another victory over Cardiff City… eventually. Two goals in the final two minutes - from Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott - gave Arsenal a 2-0 win on New Year's Day, and kept them top of the Premier League. Just three days later Arsenal got the FA Cup campaign off to the best possible start, with a 2-0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur. "All the players want to win something this year," Laurent Koscielny said. "We will work hard for this but we know the season is very long and very hard, so we need to work together. If we do, we can win something for Arsenal." The victory was marred by an anterior cruciate ligament injury to W ...
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has added his voice to calls for changes to the Premier League's breathless festive fixture schedule, in comments reported by several British newspapers on Tuesday. Rooney scored twice in United's 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day, lined up for the 0-0 draw at Tottenham Hotspur less than 48 hours later, and is due to feature against Stoke City on New Year's Day. Europe's other major leagues are currently enjoying a mid-season break and England's traditional festive programme has come under attack, with Sunderland coach Gus Poyet describing it as "a disgrace". Rooney said: "It is not easy playing two games in two days and you do lose a lot of the quality from both teams. "It is difficult. We started so well in the first half (against Tottenham), but in the second half it was tough and hopefully in the future it has to change. "It will probably take someone getting a really bad injury from doing it, which no-one wants to see, but it is very demanding and I th ...

Fabregas chasing records & a first for Manchester United in 85 games.. The Chelsea midfielder has recorded 13 assists after 18 games - the most of any player at the midway point - while Louis Van Gaal named a rare unchanged team against Tottenham Hotspur. THE ARCHITECT In the end, Chelsea saw neither of the Manchester clubs gain on them despite two dropped points at Southampton. The Saints took an early lead and dominated the opening 45 minutes, so much so that Chelsea did not record a single shot until injury time at the end of the first half. Sadly for the home side this opening shot from the league leaders resulted in an equaliser, with Cesc Fabregas once again recording an assist. The former Barcelona man now has 13 assists this season, more than any player has previously managed after 18 Premier League appearances, and as many as anyone recorded in the whole of 2013-14. CITY SLIPPERS The shuffled kick-off times in the Premier League on Sunday meant that by the time Manchester City came in at half-tim ...

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch the EPL online : Source: SBNation.com – All Posts:– Sunday’s early Premier League kickoff sees Spurs play host to Manchester United. Manchester United got off to a wobbly start to the season, though the Red Devils have quickly found form and now look like a dangerous Premier League side once again. Heading into Saturday’s game away at Tottenham Hotspur, Louis Van Gaal’s outfit sit comfortably in a Champions League spot, three points clear of fourth-placed Southampton, and four of West Ham United. However, though Spurs are down in a rather underwhelming seventh place heading into the round, they are only a couple of points adrift of the final Champions League qualification place. Three consecutive wins — though far from hardly convincing, as is Spurs’ wont — have moved Mauricio Pochettino’s side up into the European mix, and with home advantage, they may well fancy their chances of nicking a result. Ke ...
While Chelsea and Manchester City slug it out at the top of the Premier League, Louis Van Gaal's Old Trafford revolution gathers ever more momentum in the red half of Manchester. The Dutchman endured a tricky start to his reign but seven wins in eight league games have put United hot on the heels of the pacesetters. If the current United side can emulate the teams of Alex Ferguson who were renowned for a strong second half of the season, Van Gaal's men could yet have their say in the destiny of the title. United visit Tottenham Hotspur in a lunchtime kickoff today as the games continue to flow thick and fast over the festive period. 'The signs have been good in recent weeks,' midfielder Michael Carrick told the club website (ManUtd.com). 'We were bitterly disappointed not to win last week (at Aston Villa) but we beat Newcastle and now have two big away games. They will be a good test for us to see where we are at.' After the trip to Spurs, United - seven points behind City and 10 adrift of Chelsea - are a ...
There’s Virus In The Camp! Louis Van Gaal Admits Illness Has Struck Old Trafford Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has revealed the presence of a virus in the camp which has already claimed Belgian pair Adnan Januzaj and Marouane Fellaini. Van Gaal's men put Newcastle United to the sword at Old Trafford yesterday to strengthen their grip on third place in the Premier League. But there will be no rest for the Red Devils, who are due to head to White Hart Lane to play Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow. And Van Gaal, providing an injury update, admitted that there has been a virus going around the club, which has affected some players more than others. "Januzaj is ill. It is a virus that is now running in the air", he said "The virus has approached a lot of players, but for him, it was too much. "Also Fellaini… I think it is the Belgium virus! Will he be ready for Spurs? No he is ill. "Fellaini and Adnan are not ready." The Dutchman, who is waiting to discover the extent of an injury picked up in training b ...

Leaders Chelsea set the tone by overcoming West Ham United 2-0. Chelsea continue to lead City by three points, with United seven points further back, while West Ham's loss allowed Southampton, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Swansea City and Liverpool to make up ground in the race for the top four. Goals in each half from John Terry and Diego Costa – his 13th of the campaign – earned Jose Mourinho's Chelsea a one-sided home win over West Ham, who slipped to fifth. 10 questions for the weekend With yet another huge weekend of Premier League football ahead of us, we ponder 10 questions that will be answered by Monday evening ... Can the Saints get back to winning ways at Turf Moor? Southampton were absolutely flying when they travelled to struggling Aston Villa for a Monday Night Football clash last month, only for the south coast club’s form to have dipped alarmingly since then. And while the Saints have had to face the likes of Premier League champions Manchester City, FA Cup winners Arsenal, and high-flying Manchester United in that time, Head Coach Ronald Koeman will be desperate for his side to get back to winning ways, and quickly, starting with Saturday’s trip to take on relegation-threatened Burnley at Turf Moor. However, the Dutchman will not be fretting just yet given how well Southampton played on Monday evening in their 2-1 home loss to United at St Mary’s. Will Diego Costa end his goalscoring drought against the Tigers? When Diego Costa opened the ...
host Hull, Arsenal face Magpies Jose Mourinho expects Chelsea to make amends for their first defeat of the season when the Premier League leaders host Hull on Saturday. Mourinho's side saw their 23-match unbeaten run in all competitions come to a surprise end with a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle last weekend. The loss allowed second placed Manchester City to close within three points of the Blues. But Chelsea quickly got back to winning ways against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League in midweek and Mourinho is confident his players will maintain their recovery by seeing off struggling Hull at Stamford Bridge. "The response is to play well and to try to win every game. It's what we are doing since the beginning of the season," Mourinho said. "Results are results, but what can we do more than we are doing? "Playing very, very well. Not one single bad performance, good spirit, good individual performances. "You cannot be better than first in the Premier League, top of the league in the group phase and quarter ...

SIGGY OUTLINES SIMILARITIES BETWEEN BONY AND KANE Gylfi Sigurdsson has outlined the similarities between his Swansea City teammate Wilfried Bony and Tottenham Hotspur youngster Harry Kane. Both Bony and Kane are strikers and have been in impressive form in recent weeks in the Premier League. While 26-year-old Ivory Coast international striker Bony scored seven goals and created 17 chances in 15 Premier League appearances, Kane has scored twice and created six chances in 11 league matches. Although the stats are firmly in the Swansea striker’s favour, one needs to consider that Kane has only just started to get some decent playing time and is still 21 years of age. Sigurdsson, who joined Swansea from Tottenham in the summer transfer window, has underlined the similarities between the two strikers. “They are similar in the sense that they are players who can score goals from nothing," Sky Sports quotes the Iceland international as saying. ”They have a wonderful finish. “Bony is probably physically s ...

vs Tottenham Hotspur, Premier League – Eden Hazard, Didier Drogba and Loïc Rémy all score as Spurs pay for missed chances There is an increasing case for this being the most stylish, watchable Chelsea side since the dashing days of Arjen Robben and Damien Duff a decade ago. To think that Chelsea have been criticised in more recent times for occasionally parking the bus; now they are celebrated for resembling a steamroller with the handbrake off. Jose Mourinho’s hard-working, smooth-moving side effortlessly equalled the club record of 23 games unbeaten with this routine dispatching of Tottenham Hotspur. To think that it was scarcely eight months ago that the Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, was bemoaning that Mourinho had “parked two buses” at Anfield. The next time Chelsea see a parked bus could be when it is ready for boarding for a victory parade: The Telegraph
This is the REAL issue?! SA Duncan Castles who writes for The Sunday Times, Sports Illustrated, UEFA Champions magazine and others. A respected figure with an inside track, he has built a reputation for breaking transfer stories submits that Brendan Rodgers' Position at Liverpool Is Growing Increasingly Precarious. This is also for me why we are so poor this season. In the summer of 2013, Tottenham Hotspur accepted the desire of the Premier League's player of the year to move to Spain and set about reinvesting Gareth Bale's €100 million transfer fee in an aggressive overhaul of their squad. Joe Lewis, Tottenham's absentee-landlord owner, set his coach, Andre Villas-Boas, a target of converting this unprecedented spend into an unprecedented Premier League title. Repeatedly overruled by chairman Daniel Levy on recruitment strategy, by the season's third month Villas-Boas had decided it would be his last at the club. By December, with his rebuilt team eight points off the league leaders in seventh position ...
Real Madrid interested in Hugo Lloris Real Madrid are believed to favour a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris over a swoop for Manchester United's David De Gea. The European champions are apparently searching for a new first-choice goalkeeper after becoming concerned by the dipping form of Iker Casillas. They have been linked with both Premier League stoppers, and The Express claims that they are ready to prioritise a move for Lloris as they see him as a more realistic target. De Gea, 24, would reportedly be reluctant to leave United after emerging as a key player for the Red Devils, but Lloris may seek a way out of Spurs should they not qualify for the Champions League this season. The France captain, who moved to White Hart Lane from Lyon for £11m in 2012, is also believed to be a target for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco. Casillas is contracted to Real until 2017 and currently has Costa Rica star Keylor Navas for competition.

My daughter could hit harder than Benteke’ . . . . . . . . . . Christian Benteke's red card signalled a late Aston Villa collapse against Tottenham Hotspur as they slumped to a sixth consecutive Premier League defeat but manager Paul Lambert refused to blame him. With the game becoming increasingly fractious, striker Benteke became involved with Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason and shoved him in the face after Mason appeared to push his head towards the big Belgian. Hosts Villa were leading 1-0 at the time courtesy of Andreas Weimann's early goal but Nacer Chadli equalised 10 minutes from the end before substitute Harry Kane's deflected free kick condemned Villa to six straight league defeats for the first time since 1967. They are now two points above the drop zone in 15th having previously made a bright start to the campaign. Lambert felt Benteke's hand in the face of Mason was harmless. "You cannot condone what he did, but it is not like he threw a Mike Tyson punch," Lambert told the BBC. "My daughter ...
Premier League: Aston Villa vs Tottenham 1 - 2 (2/11/2014) A late goal by Harry Kane earned three points for Tottenham Hotspur as they came from behind with less than 10 minutes remaining to beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday.
England Under-21s striker Harry Kane continued his impressive goalscoring form for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday with a free-kick winner against Aston Villa. The 21-year-old has been amongst the goals for both club and country so far this season and his appearance from the bench in the second half at Villa Park helped Spurs come back from behind to collect all three points, courtesy of Kane's first Premier League strike this campaign. Elsewhere, Three Lions goalkeeper Joe Hart kept a clean sheet for Manchester City as they secured a 1-0 derby win over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. Hart kept out, amongst others, the returning Wayne Rooney after the England captain made his return from suspension to the starting line-up for United. Read the full round-up here:

Premier League - Four goals from Aguero give Man City easy win over Tottenham Etihad Stadium: Manchester City 4 (Aguero 13, 20 pen, 68 pen, 75) Tottenham Hotspur 1 (Eriksen 15)A quartet of Sergio Aguero goals steered Manchester City to a comfortable win over Tottenham in a crazy and controversial game with four penalties. Aguero opened the scoring in the 13th minute after picking up the ball on the left side of the box, cutting back, and then pausing to evaluate his options. Just when it seemed as though too much time had passed, he let fly with a fantastic shot, powering past the despairing hands of Hugo Lloris. The advantage did not last long. Fernando got caught in possession, allowing Roberto Soldado to set up Christian Eriksen, whose shot bounced off Joe Hart’s legs and into the net. The first of a quartet of penalties in the match arrived four minutes later as Frank Lampard fell forward under a challenge from Erik Lamela. Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur, Premier League match report: Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta pick up injuries and Arsene Wenger will look at the spurned chances and feel his players should have achieved more
Tottenham Hotspur-Arsenal Preview Arsenal are one of just two Premier League teams without a loss this season, yet Manager Arsene Wenger still finds himself the subject of criticism. His players could help quieten the skeptics on Saturday when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates in the first North London derby of the season, with the Gunners hoping to win three straight Premier League matches over their rivals for the first time. Injuries have turned the Arsenal defence into a pressing issue, and Wenger's management of the situation has drawn ire from a large section of the supporters for leaving the squad lacking depth in defence after deadline day. Help could be on the way with defenders Per Mertesacker and Kieran Gibbs said to be returning from injury. The duo were available only as substitutes in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Southampton at the Emirates Stadium, which sent the Gunners (2-3-0) out of the League Cup. Fellow defender Mathieu Debuchy will be out for an estimated three months after unde ...

September 18th looms large like a statement of independence on the soul of mankind. Where was I being independent on this day in the past? 1976 - Division 1 - Liverpool 2 v 0 Tottenham Hotspur - Another entertaining Liverpool versus Spurs game at Anfield with, despite the result, the Londoners giving us as good as they got without putting the ball into the old onion bag. He also captained Wales, playing alongside the likes of Ryan Giggs, Gary Speed and Craig Bellamy in the national side. And he scored the first goal in Wales' famous win over Italy at the Millennium Stadium in 2002. He has now been unveiled as the new signing for an amateur team in the seaside village of Solva in Pembrokeshire. And Davies will now have to pay £3 “subs” on every match day. Benjamin Stambouli says he had a lot of transfer options to consider before Tottenham Hotspur came in for him and he did not hesitate to move to White Hart Lane. The midfielder completed a switch from Montpellier to Spurs on Deadline Day, signing a five-year deal with Mauricio Pochettino’s men. He had an opportunity to go to home town club Marseille, while Fiorentina and Swansea City were also reported to be interested. Stambouli admits that he was tempted by all three clubs, but as soon as Tottenham entered the running he jumped at the chance and is now looking forward to playing in a different country. The 24-year-old told L’Equipe: “You can’t refuse a club like Tottenham. I didn’t hesitate. “Going abroad was a choice for my personal life. I wanted to discover a new football, another culture. “When you are born in Marseille, playing there is always difficult. Moreover, I didn’t have any guarantee to play in my best position as a midfielder. “But Marseille made me think a lot. It was no ...
Liverpool ease past Spurs, Arsenal held on august 31, 2014 in sports LONDON (AFP) – Liverpool reasserted their Premier League title credentials with a breezy 3-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, but Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw at Leicester City. Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard and Alberto Moreno scored the goals for Liverpool at White Hart Lane to give Brendan Rodgers victory in his 100th game as manager and end Tottenham’s 100 percent record. “Overall our quality was exceptional. We got three goals and could have had more,” said Rodgers. Mario Balotelli made his Liverpool debut after his £16 million ($26.5 million, 20.1 million euros) move from AC Milan on Monday and he produced an enterprising display before being withdrawn in the 61st minute. “I thought he was excellent,” Rodgers said of the maverick striker. “He’s bought straight into our team ethic. He’s trained well and has put all that background noise about him to one side. He’s been brilliant.” The result saw Liverp ...

With only Matt McKay missing, and 45 minutes for new signing Mensur Kurtishi and key midfielder Luke Brattan was also positives. The Roar play Northern Fury on Wednesday night, with Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets also playing on day two of the tournament, with the Sky Blues winning 3-1 over the hosts in the first game. Swansea hit back over Vorm transfer claim Swansea City chiefs insist Michel Vorm's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur was conducted correctly after the Dutch goalkeeper's former club Utrecht threatened to report the Premier League team to FIFA. Utrecht claim they have not received 30 per cent of Vorm's transfer fee, which they allege was part of a sell-on agreement between them and the Swans when he moved to Wales for STG1.5 million ($A2.74 million) in 2011. Dutch international Vorm, who was a member of the Netherlands' squad at the recent World Cup, moved to White Hart Lane last month for what Swansea described as an undisclosed fee. "The transfer of Michel Vorm was conducted and concluded correctly under Premier League rules," a Swansea spokesman said. "While we have been in contact with Utrecht as a matter of courtesy, we will continue to conduct our business in the best interest of our Football Club and our supporters, and not based on the views of other clubs. Media watch Lille forward Saloman Kalou is believed to be wanting a return to the English Premier League as a host of clubs are currently monitoring his situation, SkySPORTS reports. Despite Roma being favourites to sign the Ivorian international, he is still hoping an English club makes an offer to sign him with the French side looking at bids of around £3 million. Both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are still believed to be keeping a close eye on the 28-year-old striker despite no news of a concrete offer being placed. Arsenal have previously tried to complete a loan move for Kalou in the January window as well as being linked with him during the summer, but the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona seemed to have halted any possible deal going through. Monaco, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are also said to be interested in the Former Chelsea front man with the trio currently searching for more attacking options. Source: FootballFanCast.com

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for Southampton Dejan Lovren. Mauricio Pochettino is eager to add the centre-back to his squad, and is prepared to rival Arsenal and Liverpool for his signature, according to the Daily Star. Arsenal are looking at as being a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, who is expected to join Manchester United, while Liverpool hope landing Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana from Southampton will tempt the 24-year-old to follow their footsteps. But Tottenham have other ideas, and aim to continue their recent history of signing Croatian players, having previously signed Luka Modric, Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Corluka. If Lovren did move to White Hart Lane, he would most likely be a regular and form a defensive partnership with Michael Dawson. Meanwhile, Tottenham look set to add another addition to their defence, as Ben Davies is expected to sign from Swansea City for £8million. The left-back, who has impressed over the last two years in the Premier League, will be Pochettino’s fi ...
Tottenham Hotspur's summer transfer kitty could be swelled as Hull City boss is looking to capture defender Michael Dawson in a £4 million raid on White Hart Lane. Former Nottingham Forest and England defender Dawson has become less and less vital at Tottenham over the years and is unlikely to fit into the system of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who likes his defenders to have pace to fit into his high pressing game. Whilst pace is one attribute that Dawson has never been blessed with, he undoubtedly remains a capable Premier League centre half who would be an impressive capture for Hull City, reminiscent of their January swoops for striking duo Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic. Selling Dawson would also allow Pochettino to raise much needed funds, with Spurs not believe to have the same amount of cash to splash in the transfer window as they did last summer after the departure of Gareth Bale for a world record fee. Many of the signings that arrived after the Bale deal, such as Etienne Capoue, Erik Lamel ...

Crystal Palace are weighing up the possibility of signing Tottenham’s Gylfi Sigurdsson and Michael Dawson this summer, according to the Daily Star. Manager Tony Pulis is said to have given a shortlist of players he wants to bring in to strengthen the side for the 2014/15 season, and the Tottenham duo are high up in his estimates. Sigurdsson, 24, looks to be leaving the club after being on the periphery throughout the season, despite enjoying good spells of form when afforded more minutes on the pitch. The Icelandic midfielder made just 14 league starts for Tottenham, scoring five goals and faces stiff competition for a starting place in the side next season too. Dawson, who is the club-captain, isn’t getting any younger, and has been guilty of some high-profile errors in the defence in the last few months. The 30-year-old has made 32 Premier League appearances for the Lilywhites this campaign. Both players are unlikely to break the bank for Crystal Palace, with Tottenham likely to be bringing in South ...
Mauricio Pochettino, Southampton's manager, is poised to take over at Tottenham Hotspur with the London club now accepting that the Argentine is the best option to fill their vacant Head Coach role. The Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, had been told before Saturday's Champions League final that Carlo Ancelotti was not an option, whether Real Madrid won the game or not. Frank de Boer, the Ajax manager, remains the back-up candidate to Pochettino but Spurs went cold on him after he spoke publicly about their approach. Taking over at Spurs will cap a remarkable 16 months in the Premier League for Pochettino, who took over at Southampton in January last year on a contract that expires at the end of next season. There is hope at Tottenham that the former Espanyol coach will be capable of working in tandem with a director of football, the position currently held by Franco Baldini. Another factor in his favour is that he is regarded as a prime candidate to coax the best out of fellow Argentine Erik Lamela, the club' ...

All those hating on Arsenal and making jokes about how 9 years is a long time between trophies, remember this: Manchester City went 35 years between winning major trophies, from the 1976 League Cup to the 2011 FA Cup. Liverpool has not won the league since 1990. Newcastle United has not won a major trophy since 1969. Manchester United went 26 years without winning the league from 1967 until they ended their drought by winning the newly formed Premier League in 1993. Tottenham Hotspur has not won the league since 1961. Have a nice day :)
Liverpool keen on double Premier League signing The Reds want to sign both Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren Liverpool are reportedly planning a £40million double swoop for Southampton duo Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren. The Reds are keen to bulk up their squad ahead of next season as they prepare for life back in the Champions League after their second-place finish, and Brendan Rodgers is keen to do business early. Rodgers is a big fan of Saints midfielder, Lallana, and he is willing to pay up to £25million for the Englishmen, who is preparing for his first ever World Cup after being called up by Roy Hodgson. Reports suggested that Liverpool offered £20m for the playmaker, but Southampton are keen to hold out for at least £25m after he starred in their season throughout. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to keep hold of his star-assets, and it's believed if the club fail to keep hold of them, the Argentine will also jump ship, with Tottenham Hotspur waiting to pounce after sacking Tim Sherwood. MY VIEW IN THE Premier LeagUE TODAY THE TITLE HEADING TO Man City WELL DONE LIVERPOOL, FINALLY IN THE TOP FOUR Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa White Hart Lane 16:00 Tim Sherwood has the opportunity to send out a statement in his final game in charge of Spurs. Whether that is in terms of his team or wardrobe selection remains to be seen. For players like Emmanuel Adebayor, Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson there is a need to impress the new manager. Villa merely want a miserable season, in which they have survived largely through other’s failings rather than their own competence, to be over. Spurs are the only side to not score in the opening 15 minutes of a Premier League game this season. My Verdict: Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Aston Villa _ Sunderland v Swansea City Stadium of Light 16:00 This was supposed to be the game that would decide Sunderland’s fate unless they had been relegated already, but the Black Cats’ revival has been so spectacular that there is nothing riding on it other than Premier Leag ...

Full time at St Mary's Stadium, and Everton's hopes of Champions League football have all but gone up in smoke, and its was quite literally by their own heads as Southampton wins 2-0, thanks to two Everton own goals. The Rebuilding of Liverpool The long wait to win a Premier League championship might finally soon be over for Liverpool. After standing as English soccer’s marquee club for generations — including winning a record 18 titles in the old First Division — Liverpool have failed to win a league championship since 1990. With an eight-game Premier League winning streak that has included comfortable wins over Arsenal (5-1), Manchester United (3-0), and most recently Tottenham Hotspur (4-0), the club now controls its own destiny. If it wins each of its six remaining fixtures, the league championship will again return to Merseyside. This is heady stuff for a club that received virtually no attention before the season. Strike that — no positive attention. I’m sure somebody out there suggested otherwise, but as a reasonable indicator of context, zero of the 11 experts polled by the Guardian and exactly nil of the 13 surveyed by the Daily Mirror predicted Liverpool would be the champion. In fact, the 13 write ...

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that captain fantastic Steven Gerrard has got a "few more years" left at the top level, insisting that he will make the most of a "world-class" star for as long as he can keep delivering the goods. Gerrard has thrived in a deeper midfield role for Liverpool this season, dictating play from a withdrawn central position while still staying a consistent feature on the scoresheet with 11 Premier League goals this season. The 33-year-old's current Liverpool contract expires next summer, but Rodgers has given another indication that he could stay at Anfield beyond that deal thanks to the fantastic relationship the manager has built with his skipper since arriving on Merseyside. A large share of Rodgers' pre-match press conference for Sunday's clash with Tottenham Hotspur was taken up by Gerrard closing on Kenny Dalglish's mark of 172 goals for the club. Rodgers took the chance to lavish praise on the England international, telling The Mirror: "I think people wondered about his posit ...
HOW THE PFA TEAM OF THE YEAR MAY LOOK LIKE. As the season draws to a close it's getting towards the PFA Team of the Year announcement and this term it could be really close to decide who gets in. A lot has changed in the last 12 months; Jose Mourinho has returned as Chelsea manager, Manchester United have had their worst campaign to date and are not even close to defending their Premier League title and Liverpool could win the championship for the first time since 1990. This transition makes me feel that the Team of the Year is going to look a lot different to that of the 2012/13 campaign - which for those of you interested. I expect there to be wholesale changes from this starting XI, not least because the Red Devils quartet (barring David De Gea) have all been relatively poor and Juan Mata is now struggling at Old Trafford himself. As for the Tottenham Hotspur duo, Gareth Bale has since become the most expensive player of all time and left for Real Madrid, whilst Jan Vertonghen has been in and out of a ...
Manchester City will look to compound Arsene Wenger's woes when they visit the Emirates Stadium this weekend, knowing a win would take them closer to the Premier League title and inflict a potentially fatal blow to Arsenal's chances. Wenger's side have capitulated in recent weeks and a win for Manuel Pellegrini's team in London would almost certainly leave the battle for the Premier League crown as a three-way race between City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Arsenal, humiliated 6-0 at leaders Chelsea and held to a 2-2 home draw by Swansea City after conceding a last-minute equaliser on Tuesday, would have hoped for an easier match to revive their ailing title bid. City lie third with 66 points, three behind Chelsea but with two games in hand, and they will look to build on their impressive 3-0 win at bitter local rivals Manchester United on Tuesday. Jose Mourinho's Chelsea travel to struggling Crystal Palace and second-placed Liverpool, only a point off the top on 68 points, host Tottenham Hotspur. It is 10 year ...

Premier League - Paper Round: Real Madrid in for Hart Real Madrid are weighing up a shock move for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart; Arsenal are already planning for the post-Arsene Wenger era; and Tottenham Hotspur have made Romelu Lukaku their top summer target - here are the main stories making headlines in this morning's newspapers.
Some of the most influential signings of this Premier League season have been loan players. Read the top 10 loan transfers here: 10. Lewis Holtby (Tottenham Hotspur to Fulham) Fulham have been in trouble for much of the season, and their pedestrian attacking players have not helped. A forward line featuring the likes of Adel Taarabt, Bryan Ruiz and Dimitar Berbatov oozes technical quality but their lack of defensive work rate has made a big impact on the Cottagers, and all three were shipped out in January. The signing of Lewis Holtby from Tottenham Hotspur in the New Year has helped matters somewhat. While the west London side are still bottom, Spurs star Holtby has grabbed a goal and two assists in his eight appearances, helping them to a first win since New Year's Day against Newcastle United earlier this month. 9. Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a stoppage time winner after Christian Eriksen's double as Tottenham Hotspur stormed back from 2-0 down to beat Southampton 3-2 in the Premier League on Sunday. Sigurdsson converted Denmark midfielder Eriksen's layoff to keep alive Spurs lingering hopes of a top four finish. They are fifth on 56 points, six behind fourth-placed Arsenal having played one more match.
It seems like nobody ever rates Siggy, but this is why you have him on the pitch -- has great spirit a nose for goal. Great comeback win -- obviously Eriksen was brilliant, Soldado was good, and even Chadli wasn't completely terrible. Kyle Naughton, on the other hand...how is this guy a Premier League footballer, much less a starting fullback for Tottenham Hotspur?
For my lovely club Tottenham Hotspur, our moment will be next season.. I wanna see the progress of the newcomers who's staying to get used to be with the atmosphere of Premier League.. The dream team of this season is like this : 22 Hugo Lloris (GK) 2 Kyle Walker (RB) 20 Michael Dawson (CB) (c) 5 Jan Vertonghen (CB) 3 Danny Rose (LB) 8 Paulinho (DM) 17 Mousa Dembele (DM) 7 Aaron Lennon (RM) 22 Gylfi Sigurdsson (LM) 23 Christian Eriksen (AM) 9 Emanuel Adebayor (CF) From this only two debutants in my dream team : Paulinho and Eriksen.. The others should gain much better power for getting involved in the field of match.. Either Tim Sherwood or other new manager that I hope no buying session next season

Premier League leaders Chelsea suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa as Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City all won to close the gap at the top. City overcame the sending-off of captain Vincent Kompany to win 2-0 at Hull City and Arsenal's Tomas Rosicky struck in the second minute to earn his side a 1-0 victory at local rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Captain Steven Gerrard converted two penalties and Luis Suarez scored a late goal as Liverpool eased to a 3-0 win at champions Manchester United in the north-west derby. Chelsea top the standings with 66 points from 30 games, Liverpool and Arsenal have 62 from 29 and Manchester City are on 60 from 27.
What did we learn, today? 1. The present Tottenham Hotspur team is not of top-4 quality. In fact, apart from Lloris, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Sandro and Eriksen, I wouldn't mind putting everyone else on the market, this Summer. 2. The current Head Coach is not good enough for this Club. He is a poor imitation of Harry Redknapp, who, himself, was deemed not good enough, by the same Chairman who appointed the current coach. You know what they say...the definition of stupidity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting to get a different result. 3. Most telling of all - Arsenal will NEVER win another Premier League title with Arsene Wenger at the helm. He has confirmed a long-held suspicion of mine that he is, in reality, the French Tony Pulis. Three full backs and three centre backs and a defensive midfielder all on the field at once! That's more than parking the bus...Therein lies the reason this team has won NOTHING in the past 8 seasons...Monsieur Négative is too afraid to take chances. 4. T ...

Arsenal dealt Ramsey blow With a growing injury list Manager Arsene Wenger had hoped Ramsey, Arsenal's star performer earlier in the season, would be fit for Sunday's vital North London derby at Tottenham Hotspur. "We have had to defer his comeback to full training a little so he is not available," Wenger said on Thursday. "He is having difficulties in the final stages of his rehab. It looks to be short-term." Record signing Mesut Ozil is also ruled out with a hamstring injury sustained in the Champions League defeat exit against Bayern Munich in midweek. Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere are also long-term absentees, putting a huge strain on Arsenal's resources as they try and stay in the Premier League title race. "(Ozil) is out. I don't know for how long but it is a hamstring injury. There are scans going on," Wenger said. By the time third-placed Arsenal face Spurs on Sunday they could find themselves 10 points behind leaders Chelsea who are in action against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Chelsea welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge this Saturday in another London Derby, after dispatching Fulham last week. Spurs started their campaign in a not-so-convincing fashion under Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas Boas, but have gained some sort of stability after Tim Sherwood took over and now sit at fifth position in the Premier League table and in contention for the Europa League places. Although Spurs have stuttered at home, they have had relative success away from White Hart Lane and would look to manage a draw at the Bridge, where they haven’t won in the last 24 years. -SBjnr-
Robert Emmanuel Pirès was born on the 29th of October in 1973.. Bobbys birthplace was in Reims, France.. Bobby is a former French international footballer who is best known for his time with Arsenal, with whom he won three FA Cups and two FA Premier League titles including the club's famous unbeaten season of 2003–04... Robert Pires was signed by Arsenal for £6 million in 2000, after stiff competition from Real Madrid and Juventus, replacing Marc Overmars, who had left for Barcelona for a record £25 million. Initially, Pirès' form was indifferent, and some people criticised him after his comments that the English game was too physical. However, he slowly began to regain the form he had shown at Metz, scoring a superb solo goal against Lazio in the 2000–01 Champions League, and the winner against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-finals. However, Arsenal went on to lose the Cup final to Liverpool 2–1. By 2001–02, Bobby had fully got to grips with the English game and had one of his best seas ...
Manchester United manager David Moyes has reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon as a surprise summer transfer target. The Red Devils boss is expected to have a £200m war chest to improve his heavily-criticised squad at the end of what is likely to be the club's worst ever Premier League season. Football Direct News understands that he intends to use a small chunk of this figure to try and tempt Spurs into selling Lennon, who has been a regular since his £1m switch from Leeds United in 2005. Moyes has apparently been a fan of the 26-year-old's pace and directness since he was in charge of Everton and sees him as a better option than Antonio Valencia on United's right wing. Lennon has scored one goal in 22 games in all competitions for Spurs this season.

Louis Van Gaal has said he would consider joining Tottenham Hotspur once his contract with the Dutch national team finishes after this year's World Cup in Brazil. The 62-year-old, who has coached Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, was linked to the Premier League club when Andre Villas-Boas was sacked in December. Spurs eventually appointed youth development manager Tim Sherwood on an 18-month contract, but the Dutchman said he was still interested in the job. "I will definitely not be in charge (of the Netherlands) for the Euro 2016 qualification campaign," Van Gaal was quoted as saying following Sunday's draw for the European Championship. "I don't know where I will go next. Normally I go with my pension and go to live in Portugal, but maybe there will come a new challenge. "I have said before that a challenge should be a club in the Premier League. That's a challenge. Maybe Tottenham are coming but, first, we have to go to Brazil." Van Gaal has previously indicated his interest in managing in ...

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood says he would rather win the Europa League than earn a place in next season's Champions League by finishing in the Premier League's top four. Tottenham Hotspur
So Liverpool has been incredible compared to recent years but can they achieve a Champions League place? Imo, yes they can and here is why. HOME FORM. Liverpool’s home form has been superb this season losing only one game this year, the reds have won 85% of their home games this season and it could continue. The last league game at home was a shining example of how powerful we have been at home demolishing Arsenal 5-1. Liverpool’s record of 85% wins at home is miles ahead of the away wins percentage of 38%. With all this said we still have many games against top sides in the Premier League at home and with Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling in hot form we can take a lot of points in them games. Liverpool will face Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea at home, can they win them? , Of course they can. PLAYERS HOME PERFORMANCES. Luis Suarez has contributed so much at Anfield this season scoring 16 goals in 10 appearances at home but also assisting 4 times. Daniel Sturridge has 8 goals in 9 appearan ...
Coward Webb criticsm : Webb was handed a one-week demotion to the Football League Championship from officiating in the Premier League in April 2009 — a punishment sporadically imposed on referees who make high-profile contentious errors. Webb had earlier been appointed to referee the 2009 FA Cup final, the highest domestic honour for an official, when he awarded Manchester United a debatable penalty kick while they trailed 2–0 to Tottenham Hotspur. The penalty was converted and United went on to win the match 5–2. Webb later admitted he had made "a mistake" but had awarded the penalty "honestly". Earlier in that year, Webb was in charge of an FA Cup tie between Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. During the first half, Webb declined to award Birmingham a penalty when Richard Stearman appeared to foul Marcus Bent. He later admitted this decision was a mistake. In the second half, Webb accidentally blocked a Radhi Jaïdi pass on the halfway line, gifting possession to Wolverhampton's Michael ...
Alan Pardew has told his troops to show the city of Newcastle they care in their next game against Aston Villa. The Magpies are looking to avoid the record books for all the wrong reasons. United had not lost five league games in a row since 1987 until Wednesday night against Tottenham Hotspur. However, as reported in last night’s Chronicle, Pardew tore a strip off some of his players after an inept 4-0 defeat. Pardew is trying to move on from the defeat but said in the aftermath of the Spurs loss: “In terms of where I am with the players – I have made it clear to them what their responsibility is to the fans and the city. “And that needs to be reflected in the next game. “That’s the only thing we can do.” United have now leaked 10 goals in three matches but are some way off the worst run of form in the Premier League. The coldest streak endured by the Magpies in the revamped division is eight matches without a victory. That came under Kenny Dalglish between February 7 and April 13, 1998. Bu ...
Mike Williamson admits the Newcastle United players have let their loyal fan base down, but feels criticism of their attitude is unfair. The Magpies slumped to a 4-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, and questions have been raised as to the desire of those selected by Alan Pardew. Pardew admitted after a midweek home humbling that his side had not given 'life and limb' for the collective cause. Williamson acknowledges that criticism is to be expected after three straight Premier League defeats, in which they have conceded 10 goals and scored none, but the centre-half rejects any suggestion that the Newcastle squad do not care about performances and results. He said in The Northern Echo: "It might have come across to the fans that there was no heart, and that's a disappointing thing. "Sometimes, the fans can be a little bit unfair, but you can't say that over the past few games. They are justified, and we completely understand their anger and upset. "Believe me, the players in there are feelin ...
Liverpool kept their top-four ambitions alive with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Fulham on Wednesday, but match-winner Steven Gerrard acknowledged they cannot afford to keep giving away goals if they want to play in Europe next season. Gerrard converted a last-minute penalty after Sascha Riether sent Daniel Sturridge tumbling at Craven Cottage, keeping the Reds in fourth spot, three ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race for a place in the Champions League. Liverpool were worthy winners but made victory difficult for themselves, giving away two goals to the Premier League's bottom club which forced them to come from behind twice. A comical own goal from Kolo Toure gave Fulham an early lead, before a stunning Gerrard pass allowed Sturridge to level matters just before halftime. Kieran Richardson pounced on a poor clearance from Martin Skrtel to take back the advantage for the hosts just after the hour mark, and after Philippe Coutinho drew Liverpool level for the second time Gerrard finished the comeback fro ...

Arsenal, Man U in crucial clash LONDON, FEB 10, 2014, REUTERS: AA David Moyes Arsenal and Manchester United will be out to make amends after a weekend of damaging results when they meet at Emirates in the Premier League on Wednesday. Arsenal lost top spot in the league after a 5-1 humiliation by a rampant Liverpool at Anfield, with their previously much-praised defence being torn to shreds as they conceded four goals in the first 20 minutes. Manager Arsene Wenger called the performance "feeble", and will be hopeful the defeat won't signal the end of Arsenal's title hopes as they face a run of matches taking in United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton by early March. Defender Per Mertesacker admitted the loss was a major setback, but called on Arsenal to summon the spirit they showed after December's 6-3 loss to Manchester City, when they went on to win six of their next eight matches. "We feel very bad at the moment, disappointed with our performance right from the start," the Germa ...
A stunning finish from revitalised striker Emmanuel Adebayor helped Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton 1-0 to move above their top-four rivals in the Premier League on Sunday. - See more at:
Bent denies United, Spurs sink Everton 09 February 2014, 20:06 An injury-time goal from Fulham's Darren Bent inflicted more pain on champions Manchester United as the bottom club rescued a 2-2 Premier League draw on Sunday, adding fuel to the fire for manager David Moyes's critics. It was a further blow to United's hopes of securing Champions League football next season and left them nine points behind Liverpool in fourth spot and six adrift of Tottenham Hotspur who beat Everton 1-0 with a goal from Emmanuel Adebayor. Late strikes from Robin Van Persie and Michael Carrick helped United cancel out Steve Sidwell's opener and evoked some of the never-say-die attitude that characterised former manager Alex Ferguson's long spell at the club. However, the uncertainty that has plagued the new regime came back to bite them as Fulham substitute Bent headed in at the far post to nick a point in the 94th minute. "Today was as bad as it gets," a shell- shocked Moyes told Sky Sports television. "We dominated the game. ...

John Terry - A RESILIENT WARRIOR COULD HAVE BEEN LEADING CITY OUT AGAINST CHELSEA TONIGHT Every career is studded with ifs, buts&maybes but John Terry could have been leading out Man City,¬ Chelsea,at the Etihad Stadium Tonight in the fixture that might define this Premier League season&his future. It is easy to forget just how close Terry was to quitting Chelsea in 2009 when he appeared to be conducting negotiations with City himself over a £30M transfer – rather than using his then agent Aaron Lincoln who he split with later that summer after pledging his future to Stamford Bridge. Terry, somewhat implausibly, later insisted he never had any intention of leaving&said a new contract&a pay rise was not a priority. He also spoke with authority about his relationship with Roman Abramovich&the fantasy signings Chelsea needed. Terry then signed a 5yrs deal that,at that time, made him the Premier League’s highest-paid player earning £150,000 a week. He was at the height of his powers, his influence, his imp ...
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is out for a month with a hamstring injury he sustained in the midweek win at Tottenham Hotspur. Midfielders Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia are also unavailable, with knee and muscle injuries respectively. Chelsea will monitor the fitness of winger Mohamed Salah following his move from Basel. Salah missed Wednesday's derby against West Ham along with Fernando Torres, who is sidelined with a knee injury. It could be explosive. It's bound to be fascinating. Having been frustrated by West Ham's "19th Century football", Jose Mourinho now has to come up with a plan to counter football from another planet. Well, not quite, but football being played by "the best team on the planet", according to Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood. It's a match that pitches the Premier League's most potent attack against its tightest defence, which in itself shows the massive difference a change of coach can have on the ethos of a club. Last season Roberto Mancini's City were the most miserly team arou ...
United slump, Sunderland out of relegation 01 February 2014, 20:35 Charlie Adam scored twice as Stoke City beat Manchester United 2-1 on Saturday to show the flailing Premier League champions it will take more than one big- money signing to improve their fortunes. The optimism created by Juan Mata's transfer from Chelsea drained away as United were beaten for the third time in their last five league games, losing ground on rivals Everton, who beat Aston Villa 2-1, and Tottenham Hotspur who drew 1-1 at Hull City. United, who fielded Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Mata in a mouth- watering forward line, were again undone at the back. Adam rifled home a spectacular winner in the second half, after Van Persie cancelled out his deflected opener, to leave United seventh on 40 points, five adrift of Everton in fifth and four behind Spurs. Elsewhere, an Adam Johnson-inspired Sunderland recorded a thumping 3-0 win at derby rivals Newcastle United while West Ham United striker Andy Carroll set up both goals but ...

West Ham United picked up an important home victory over Swansea City, but Fulham tumbled to the foot of the table after being blitzed by Southampton. Stoke City enjoyed a first league win over Manchester United since Boxing Day 1984 after Charlie Adam's double clinched a 2-1 victory at the Britannia Stadium. Former United striker Mark Hughes' side took the lead in fortunate fashion on 38 minutes when Adam's long-range free-kick deflected off Michael Carrick and wrong-footed United keeper David De Gea. Adebayor’s brace extends Spurs league run Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice as Tottenham Hotspur moved level on points with fourth-placed Liverpool in the Premier League after a 3-1 win away to struggling Swansea on Sunday, reports AFP. Adebayor’s goals, separated by a Chico Flores own-goal, ensured Tottenham remained unbeaten in the league under manager Tim Sherwood, whose record now stands at five wins and a draw since the Englishman replaced sacked predecessor Andre Villas-Boas. For Swansea, an eighth successive league match without a win left Michael Laudrup’s men just three points above the relegation zone. The Welsh club had early chances at the Liberty Stadium, with Hugo Lloris saving Jonjo Shelvey’s long-range shot and striker Wilfried Bony hitting the crossbar when the France goalkeeper had been beaten by a powerful shot. Arsenal and England share pain with Theo Walcott after cruel blow Loss of the striker's pace and directness will be felt by his club in Premier League title chase and by his country at the World Cup Monday 6 January 2014 16.13 EST Daniel Taylor As every Tottenham Hotspur supporter at that end of the Emirates will remember, Theo Walcott was smiling as he left the pitch, enjoying a little malicious pleasure at their misfortune and not in any apparent distress. That is often the way with knee ligament injuries. At first, there is the sharp, excruciating burst of pain but it can pass within a minute or so, to the point the victim often believes he can actually carry on. It used to be a career-wrecker; now, even with the advancement of medical techniques, it is still the injury all footballers fear the most. Football can be a cruel industry sometimes. Walcott did not make the cut when Fabio Capello announced his World Cup squad four years ago and, in 2006, he was the 17-year-old who was given a free ride by Sv ...
Coventry City rewarded with FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Arsenal. Andre Villas-Boas deserved more time to work with and develop the Tottenham Hotspur squad, Harry Redknapp said on the day his successor was fired as manager. Three heavy defeats in two months, the most recent a 5-0 mauling by Liverpoolat White Hart Lane on Sunday, resulted in the sack for Villas-Boas with his expensively-assembled team lying a disappointing seventh in the Premier League table. "I think people are over-reacting too quickly," he told Talksport Radio on Monday. "You lose a couple of games now and you're in trouble, it shouldn't be like that. "You either think somebody is good at their job or not and when you appoint someone you should give them time and let them do the job," added Redknapp, who is now in charge of Championship leaders Queens Park Rangers.
