Arsene Wenger has just left every other team in the Premier League shaking in their football boots after suggesting Alexis Sanchez can get even better. The Chile star scored twice and assisted another as Arsenal eased past Stoke City with a 3-0 victory. Sanchez's stunning solo effort for his first goal came shortly after he had set Laurent Koscielny up for the opener. He capped off the man of the match performance with a second half strike from a free-kick. Since signing from Barcelona in the summer for £32 million, the 26-year-old has scored 18 goals in all competitions and assisted nine. Having been involved in 19 Premier League goals, he is currently the most effective player in England's top division. IMPROVING ON PERFECTION Despite his incredible form, Wenger has suggested Sanchez can get even better, possibly moving up to the level that Luis Suarez reached at Liverpool before his summer move to Barcelona. With a crucial run of games approaching, the Arsenal boss has no doubt how important Sanchez w ...
Stoke City to send Robert Huth on loan but offer Peter Crouch new deal Mixed day: Peter Crouch will be offered a two-year deal but Robert Huth is going out on loan Photo: GETTY IMAGES Mark Hughes is ready to send Stoke City defender Robert Huth out on loan and offer Peter Crouch a new two-year deal. Hughes has held talks with Huth and agreed to sanction a temporary move away from the Britannia Stadium for the German centre-half. Huth is already in demand and attracting interest from a number of Premier League and Championship clubs. The 30-year-old has not started a Premier League game this season and appears to have fallen further out of favour following the loan signing of Philipp Wollscheid last week. Stoke are also set to discuss a new contract with Crouch in the next few weeks as they bid to keep the ...

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised Alexis Sanchez’ "amazing" quality after the Chilean inspired Arsenal to a 3-0 victory over Stoke City on Sunday. Alexis set up the opening goal for Laurent Koscielny on six minutes before striking twice himself to take his goal tally to 19 in all competitions and seal a deserved win for Arsene Wenger's men. With 13 goals and seven assists, the Chilean has now been directly involved in over half of Arsenal's 37 Premier League goals this season and Oxlade-Chamberlain has no doubts about his team-mate's talent. "Alexis is amazing. He shows it week in week out and that's the most important thing for top players to do," Oxlade-Chamberlain told Sky Sports. "It's about consistency and it's not good enough to just be good one week, everyone wants to see you being great every week. "Alexis has done that all the way through the season. He was brilliant again today with two good goals and obviously he set Laurent's goal up as well. Hopefully it continues for him because he's ha ...

A man has been arrested and charged for allegedly confronting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during their 2-0 Premier League loss to Southampton on New Year's Day, reports the BBC. Luke Bryant, 25, from Lymington in Hampshire is said to have broken the laws outlined in the 1991 Football Offences Act by taking to the technical area and going up to Wenger. Mr Bryant will appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on January 22. The incident occurred with Wenger's Gunners side losing to their hosts and comes just weeks after the Frenchman was abused by supporters as he left Stoke City's Britannia Stadium. As is almost tradition every season now, many unhappy fans want the 65-year-old to leave the North London club for what they perceive as poor form from their team. Wenger was the subject of a campaign to force him out of the Emirates Stadium earlier in 2014/15 as well when a 'Wenger Out' banner was revealed during the match at West Bromwich Albion.

Stoke 1 Manchester United 1: What the papers say David Lynch Check out our round-up of what the national newspapers are saying about the Reds' 1-1 draw with the Potters on New Years' Day. The momentum is no longer with Manchester United and they can count themselves fortunate to have escaped with a point from a blustery Britannia Stadium. Louis Van Gaal made no attempt to sugarcoat United’s poor performance on an afternoon when Stoke City were left to lament some suspect refereeing from Michael Oliver, poor finishing from Mame Diouf and the moment when the woodwork denied Peter Crouch a possible winner. Stuart James, The Guardian Two points dropped or one gained? The table will ultimately decide in May. Louis Van Gaal paid Stoke the compliment of expressing relief, claiming his Manchester United team had perhaps been fortunate to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 10 games. Despite dominating possession, United were always vulnerable to the Stoke cosh, and their third draw in succession away fr ...

SHOCKING! The moment an angry fan confronted Wenger during Saints loss As if Arsene Wenger's New Year's Day wasn't bad enough, the Arsenal boss was confronted by a supporter on the touchline during his side's 2-0 loss at Southampton. With the Gunners trailing late on, the fan appeared to remonstrate with the Frenchman, just weeks after he was abused by travelling Arsenal fans at a train station, following another defeat at Stoke City. It remains unclear which whether the pitch invader at St Mary's was a home or away fan, as some reports suggested he could have been a Saints supporter goading the Arsenal bench. Defeat at Southampton was Arsenal's first Premier League reverse since losing at the Britannia Stadium on 6 December, and leaves them three points behind the fourth-placed Saints. The supporter was given short shrift by Wenger's assistant, Steve Bould, before being led away by stewards. It follows protests against Wenger during Arsenal's 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion, in which supporters unfurled ...

London: Manchester United lost further momentum in the Premier League title race after drawing 1-1 with Stoke City at a windy Britannia Stadium on New Year’s Day. Radamel Falcao equalised for the visitors after former United trainee Ryan Shawcross had scored the first Premier League goal of 2015 in the second minute, but it was a third draw in four games for Louis Van Gaal’s side. Stoke caught United cold by taking the lead inside second minutes, with Shawcross volleying into the net from close range after Peter Crouch had helped on a corner. Mame Biram Diouf, another United old boy, then spurned a glorious chance to extend Stoke’s lead when he bundled his way past Jonny Evans, only to curl wide with his left foot. Falcao equalised in the 26th minute, hooking home left-footed at the back post after Wayne Rooney’s corner had been flicked on by Michael Carrick to register the third goa ...

Peter Crouch has said that he should have been awarded a penalty during Stoke City's draw with Manchester United in the Premier League this afternoon. The striker tangled with Chris Smalling while trying to get a header away in the first half, but was penalised for fouling the defender. After the match, he told Sky Sports News: "We had chances, we hit the post. We would have liked to win but maybe a draw was fair. I won the header cleanly [for the penalty shout], it was on target and I think Chris Smalling had his hands up, for me it was a penalty but I would like to see it again. "The conditions today meant it was back to the old school days. We used them well and that is a string to our bow. We are always good at set pieces." Radamel Falcao scored the equaliser for United after Ryan Shawcross opened the scoring early on for the hosts.
LIVE Stoke City - Manchester United - So, Wayne Rooney continues in a midfield role for United today, but it hasn't stopped him finding the net. The club captain has scored five in his last seven league outings and needs just two more to become the first player in Premier League history to score 10 or more goals in 11 consecutive seasons. - However, today he comes up against a side that will be eager not to concede in order to record three consecutive Premier League clean sheets for just the second time; the first trio came in April 2010. - The teams are making their way out onto the pitch, so the game will begin in just a few moments!

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has added his voice to calls for changes to the Premier League's breathless festive fixture schedule, in comments reported by several British newspapers on Tuesday. Rooney scored twice in United's 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day, lined up for the 0-0 draw at Tottenham Hotspur less than 48 hours later, and is due to feature against Stoke City on New Year's Day. Europe's other major leagues are currently enjoying a mid-season break and England's traditional festive programme has come under attack, with Sunderland coach Gus Poyet describing it as "a disgrace". Rooney said: "It is not easy playing two games in two days and you do lose a lot of the quality from both teams. "It is difficult. We started so well in the first half (against Tottenham), but in the second half it was tough and hopefully in the future it has to change. "It will probably take someone getting a really bad injury from doing it, which no-one wants to see, but it is very demanding and I th ...

PREMIER LEAGUE TALK: It was a Saturday of the Long Knives as Chelsea's hitherto "unbeaten" record finally came tumbling down like a house of cards at the hands of "minnows" Newcastle United. Not even the tired legs of oldman Didier Drogba could turn around the fortunes of "The Bus" that had already been turned upside down by Senegalese attacker Papisse Cisse as Chelsea mounted a weak "resurgence" that barely lasted 10 minutes resulting in their only goal but still ended up being hit 2-1.After the Chelsea game,it was the turn of the established "Pretenders" to the EPL throne(known to keep position four as theirs for keeps).Arsenal visiting Stoke City (Wana Beba Beba),hoping to win and at least occupy their traditional number four spot but alas!.They were shocked by the fastest goal of the Premier League after langy Peter Crouch scored a goal after only 31 seconds!.Crouch scored the goal even as underperforming Arsene Wenger was walking towards his seat to start "enjoying" the match! At half-time,a resilient ...
EPL- Newcastle break Chelsea's unbeaten streak: Chelsea's unbeaten start to the season ended in a dramatic 2-1 loss at Newcastle United on Saturday when Papiss Cisse struck twice to stun the Premier League leaders at St James' Park. Arsenal's hopes of a third successive victory were dashed in a 3-2 defeat at Stoke City where they trailed 3-0 at halftime and Liverpool were held to a 0-0 home draw by Sunderland. Undefeated in 23 matches in all competitions since April's Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid, Chelsea proved far from invincible as 10-man Newcastle survived a late barrage to prevent the visitors setting a record unbeaten run. Few could deny Newcastle a deserved win that lifted them to seventh in the table, although Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said his side had been unlucky to lose. The hosts lost goalkeeper Rob Elliot to injury at halftime, replaced by young rookie debutant Jak Alnwick, and had to man the barricades with only 10 men when Steven Taylor was dismissed after gettin ...
Stoke City edged out Arsenal 3-2 in a thrilling Premier League clash at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday -
Manchester United recorded a fourth win in a row for the first time since December 2013 with a 2-1 triumph over Stoke City at a chilly Old Trafford on Tuesday night. Marouane Fellaini’s first-half header and Juan Mata’s free-kick - from which Marcos Rojo tried to claim a decisive touch - ensured the Reds collected another three points, although, not for the first time this season, an inspired moment from David De Gea was needed to safeguard the victory. Steven Nzonzi equalised for the Potters before the break and Mame Biram Diouf almost did the same, twice, in the dying seconds of the game but was thwarted by the Reds' no.1 and then an Ashley Young goal-line clearance. The absence of the injured Wayne Rooney and Angel Di Maria from United's team-sheet may have given the visitors a lift, but Asmir Begovic threatened to ruin a fairly trouble-free opening for Stoke with a careless pass to Robin Van Persie. The Stoke goalkeeper's blushes were spared when Ander Herrera scooped over from the Dutchman’s pa ...
Manchester United made it four straight Premier League wins with a 2-1 victory over Stoke City. United were missing the injured Wayne Rooney, who was hurt in a collision with an advertising hoarding against Hull on Saturday. But they took the lead on 21 when Ander Herrera’s cross was met by Marouane Fellaini’s header. Stoke levelled on 39 - Bojan Krkic’s run into the box was halted, the ball rolled back to Steven N’Zonzi who powered in a shot from the edge of the box. United took the lead on 59 – Juan Mata whipped in a free-kick, no-one got a touch and the ball flew straight past Asmir Begovic. In a dramatic finale, David De Gea made a stunning save to deny Mame Biram Diouf and then Ashley Young came to United's rescue with a sensational goal-line clearance in the fourth minute of stoppage time. After all the questions about Steven Gerrard’s future, Liverpool’s skipper played a pivotal role in their 3-1 win at 10-man Leicester. The hosts took the lead through Simon Mignolet’s unfortunate o ...
Manchester United 2-1 Stoke City: United Make it Four in Four in the Premier League.
Michael Carrick believes Manchester United go into Tuesday's Barclays Premier League clash with Stoke City ready to continue a good run of results.
Na only those wey eat belleful fit read this article A week in Brendan Rodgers's life 29 November 2014 Updated 22:01 By Phil McNulty - Chief football writer, BBC Sport Brendan Rodgers has made the uncomfortable journey from sitting on Liverpool's team bus as it received a guard of honour through Anfield's Shankly Gates from thousands of fans to admitting he was favourite for the sack inside six months. If anyone can be used as an accurate measure of the Premier League's skewed level of expectation, it is the Northern Irishman, who was three games from delivering Liverpool's first title for 25 years in May only to find himself under intense pressure at the end of November. Rodgers, to his credit, has not dodged the forensic examination his methods have received this season - but his outpouring of joy as Glen Johnson's 85th-minute header gave Liverpool a 1-0 win against Stoke City at Anfield hinted at sheer relief as well as elation. It ended a week that started with a dreadful performance in defeat at Crys ...

Steven Gerrard dropped, but Liverpool prevail over Stoke City to arrest losing streak: Liverpool's inspirational captain Steven Gerrard was dropped on the 16th anniversary of his club debut but manager Brendan Rodgers' surprise decision was vindicated as they arrested their slump with a 1-0 win over Stoke City at Anfield on Saturday. Even though there have been questions over his form and effectiveness at 34 during Liverpool's struggles this term, Gerrard's sidelining felt like a shock symbol of their struggles. Yet when the captain was sent on to save the day with quarter of an hour left, amid deafening cheers from the home faithful, Liverpool, still labouring for the breakthrough, soon prevailed through Glen Johnson's 85th-minute headed winner. The triumph ended a dismal November for Rodgers on a positive note, with his side earning a Premier League victory after three consecutive defeats. Arsenal, gaining welcome relief amid their worst start to a season for 32 years, were left toasting Danny Welbeck a ...

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City, Premier League: as it happened
Vertonghen: Only Chelsea are too strong for Spurs - FJ Jan Vertonghen is confident Tottenham have the quality required to push on for a top four spot this season. The North London club have endured an indifferent start to 2014/15 as they adjust to the methods and style of new head coach Mauricio Pochettino, winning four and losing four of their opening 10 Premier League matches. However, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United also struggling to hit top gear, Spurs still find themselves just three points off a Champions League place ahead of Stoke City's visit on Sunday. And the Belgium international defender believes that aside from the top two, everyone else is within reach as they also struggle to string together victories. “Apart from Chelsea, and at this moment Southampton, I can’t see any team making a five-game run of wins so there is a lot to play for,” he told FourFourTwo. “United, Liverpool, Everton, we are all close. Only Chelsea are probably too strong for us. There’s ...

FULL TIME : Stoke City 1 - O Newcastle United The Magpies' woes continued at the Britannia Stadium as they succumbed to another defeat which keeps them in 19th place in the table and ramps up the pressure on their manager. Peter Crouch heaped further misery on Alan Pardew as his header gave Stoke City a 1-0 win over Newcastle on Monday and extended the Magpies' wait for a first Premier League win of the new season. The lead-up to the Britannia Stadium clash had been dominated by controversy over comments from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley indicating that Pardew would be sacked if they lost to Stoke. A legal representative for Ashley later insisted that the remarks were made in jest, but he now has a decision to make after watching another lifeless performance which leaves Newcastle still awaiting their first league victory of the season. The visitors enjoyed plenty of possession in wet Staffordshire conditions but their failure to create clear-cut chances was punished by Crouch. The 33-year-old striker hit ...

Simon: How it has changed since 2013 From two worldwide tours with Liverpool to Champions League qualification and a World Cup in Brazil, it has certainly been a frantic period for Simon Mignolet since he signed for the club. The Belgian was brought to Anfield in June 2013 and immediately installed as Brendan Rodgers' first-choice goalkeeper, beginning his Reds career with a crucial penalty save against Stoke City. His agility and shot-stopping skills were evident throughout a debut campaign that almost brought a Barclays Premier League title and did book a place in Europe's elite competition this season. There was no resting on laurels in the summer for the 26-year-old either, as he travelled to South America with his country and provided cover for their progression to the World Cup quarter-finals. So, now he is back at Melwood and the daily duties of competing in the Premier League are firmly in focus, how does the Mignolet of August 2014 compare to the man who signed 14 months ago? "Now I know what it ...
Guinness World Record-NEW WORLD RECORD LONGEST FOOTBALL GOAL. Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic 's goal against Southampton has been recognised as the longest in competitive football. Begovic scored the extraordinary effort just 13 seconds into the Premier League clash at the Britannia Stadium last November, and it has now been confirmed as an official world record. In windy conditions, the Bosnia- Herzegovina international's clearance bounced outside the Southampton penalty area and flew over Begovic's opposite number Artur Boruc and into the net. On Thursday, Guinness World Records recognised the 91.9-metre strike as the "longest goal scored in football".
Stoke City registered their first Premier League victory in Manchester as Mame Biram Diouf's fine solo effort stunned the champions. Man City 0-1 Stoke Diouf 58′ The Senegal international and former United striker raced 70 yards before slotting under Joe Hart. The hosts could have had a late penalty but Yaya Toure was booked for diving. Stoke had lost all 12 previous league matches at the Etihad Stadium and Old Trafford and manager Mark Hughes will savour this victory at his former club. The odds were stacked against the visitors who had not even scored at Manchester City in the Premier League By contrast, Manuel Pellegrini's men had failed to hit the net in just one of their last 70 home matches and the Chilean started with Sergio Aguero, who had taken just 23 seconds to score off the bench against Liverpool, up front. The Potters had failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 12 league matches but a resolute performance from Hughes's side saw them do just that and Diouf's second-half strike capped a . ...
Chelsea overpowered Everton 6-3 in a remarkable game on Saturday to preserve their 100 percent record in the Premier League, after Manchester City were stunned by Stoke City. Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea led 2-0, 3-1, and 4-2, but Everton kept coming back at them and it was not until Diego Costa made it 6-3 with his second goal in the last minute that the home side finally admitted defeat at an enraptured Goodison Park. Chelsea were 2-0 up inside three minutes, with Diego Costa tucking away a pass from Cesc Fabregas after only 36 seconds before Ramires teed up Branislav Ivanovic to drill a low shot past Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard. But Kevin Mirallas reduced the arrears with a fine header on the stroke of half-time and when Everton right-back Seamus Coleman slid an Eden Hazard cross into his own goal in the 67th minute, it heralded a flurry of five goals in 10 minutes. Two minutes later Steven Naismith hit back for the hosts to make it 3-2 and although Nemanja Matic then restored the visitors’ two-goal c ...
Hull City took on Stoke City in their first home match of the Premier League season. They suffered an early setback when James Chester was sent off, but still took the lead through Nikicia Jelavic before half-time. It wasn't until six minutes to go that Stoke equalised through Ryan Shawcross. Here's Steve Bruce's reaction to the match:

If the aim is to repeat last season’s stirring title challenge, minus the late heartache, then Liverpool have made a convincing start by beating Southampton in a re-run of last August’s opener against Stoke City. Convincing, however, applies only to the script and not the performance from Brendan Rodgers’s subdued side. Twelve months ago Liverpool were indebted to a Daniel Sturridge goal and an 89th-minute penalty save from Simon Mignolet for victory over a Stoke team under new management. On Ronald Koeman’s first Premier League day in the Southampton post, it was a 79th-minute poacher’s goal from Sturridge plus a superb 88th-minute save from Mignolet, one that deflected Morgan Schneiderlin’s volley onto the bar, that preserved three points for Liverpool. Improvement will and has to come from Rodgers’s side but Southampton departed Merseyside with justifiable regret. This was far from a fluid, threatening performance by Liverpool and responsibility for their laboured start lay with Southampt ...
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert claims he is not concerned about rumours linking captain Ron Vlaar with a move to Southampton. The Netherlands international is reported to be a target for Southampton, who are said to view the former Feyenoord man as the ideal replacement for Dejan Lovren. Vlaar enjoyed an excellent World Cup campaign under the stewardship of new Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal and he was even linked with a switch to Old Trafford. However, with Villa set to begin their Premier League campaign at Stoke City on Saturday, Lambert foresees no problems with his captain and insisted that Vlaar has in no way actively sought a transfer. He told reporters, “To be fair to Ron, he has not come to us or anything. “We have had little chats here and there, but I think his main concern was getting back after the World Cup, getting fit and hopefully being ready for Saturday. “That is where he has been. I have a good rapport with Ron, so I don’t have any problem with that whatsoever.” W ...

Manchester United endured a nightmare campaign under David Moyes last term, as the club finished the Premier League season in seventh place. There were many things wrong with the Red Devils under the previous regime, with the club struggling to find an identity. And, for some time now, it has been clear that the Red Devils are lacking in the middle of the park, but it's not just the midfield area where the club are struggling. Moyes era As well as midfield, United struggled defensively under Moyes. In the club's 19 home league matches last term, they conceded 21 goals in their own back yard - four more than Stoke City and three more than relegated Norwich City. The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, who managed to secure Champions League football, conceded just 11 goals each on their own stomping ground. Perhaps Manchester United's best defensive display under the previous regime was against German giants Bayern Munich in the quarter final of the competition. On that night, the club secured a 1-1 draw at Old T ...

New Stoke signing Mame Biram Diouf to the club's official website: "This is a chance for me to prove myself in the Premier League. When I was at Manchester United, I didn't get the chance to play many games and went on loan to Blackburn. It didn't go as well as I wanted and I opted for a new experience in Germany. Peter Odemwingie has been talking about his experience at West Brom, ahead of tomorrow's Premier League return to The Hawthorns with Stoke City. Roy Hodgson says Andros Townsend's ankle injury is a 'cruel blow' and is disappointed the Tottenham Hotspur winger will miss the World Cup. The 22-year-old will undergo surgery after damaging ligaments in Spurs' Premier League game against Stoke City on Saturday. The club confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that he is expected to be side-lined for up to ten weeks. "I am very disappointed." said Hodgson. "I am disappointed for him in particular, he had a fantastic debut bursting onto the scene and he did really well. "To see him ruled out like this with a serious ankle injury, that is a cruel blow." Tim Sherwood clearly does not intend to go quietly if, as expected, he has just entered the last fortnight of his tenure at Tottenham. Victory against 10-man Stoke City improved his standing as the club's most successful manager in the Premier League era and left him in feisty mood. In terms of league games won, no one can match Sherwood's 60% since he succeeded André Villas-Boas in December. Yet it has been one big clockwatch since his future, or lack of it, became a public issue last month. It has been an undignified affair. For weeks, the football grapevine carried the news that Louis Van Gaal was on his way to the Lane, and in revealing his desire to manage in the Premier League the veteran Dutchman did not deconstruct the fable. Other candidates have been mentioned in dispatches, despite the current Tottenham head coach having 12 months on his contract still to run. After Danny Rose's first goal for the club since his debut four years ago, Sherwood spoke like a man resigned to his fate. "At every pr ...
Full time at St Mary's Stadium, and Everton's hopes of Champions League football have all but gone up in smoke, and its was quite literally by their own heads as Southampton wins 2-0, thanks to two Everton own goals. Antolin Alcaraz and Seamus Coleman's first half clangers was enough to see the Saints take the three points and equal their highest points haul in their Premier League history in what has been an over-achieving season under Mauricio Pochettino. For Everton, they remain a point behind Arsenal in 5th place, with the Gunners still to play against Newcastle United on Monday night. EPL: Chelsea return to top spot, hammer Stoke 3-0 (AFP)— Chelsea regained top spot in the Premier League thanks to a straightforward 3-0 win over shot-shy Stoke City at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s late kick-off. Goals from Mohamed Salah, Frank Lampard and Willian were enough for Jose Mourinho’s side to move ahead of Liverpool, who play West Ham on Sunday, by a point. Victory also ended a run of two successive defeats and maintained Mourinho’s remarkable record of never having lost at home in the Premier League. And it will also have acted as a timely boost ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final decider against Paris Saint-Germain, where Chelsea must overturn a 3-1 first leg deficit if they are to reach the last four. Fernando Torres, the Spain forward, was the early focus of attention after being restored to the Chelsea starting line-up. Wednesday’s defeat in Paris had seen Mourinho start with no recognised front-man and the Portuguese manager complained afterwards that he lacked ...

Manchester United have been handed a potential boost ahead of the Bayern Munich match with Jonny Evans returning to training. Evans has been out injured for two months, injured against Stoke City on February 1 in the 2-1 loss at the Britannia. The centre-back has been nursing his calf injury ever since, but was pictured today back in full training with the first team squad ahead of the Bayern clash. Chris Smalling was back in training too, meaning David Moyes has a full complement of centre-backs to choose from, including Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Phil Jones. Evans may therefore not expect to go straight back into the first team, but a spot could open up for him due to Rafael da Silva missing training. The Brazilian is hoping to be back to take on Bayern, but should he miss out, either Jones or Smalling could shift to right-back, while Jones remains an option should Moyes decide to pack the midfield. Should the match with Bayern be too soon, Evans is likely to play an important role in the Premier ...
Osazie Scores in third Consecutive Match! As lone strike gives Stoke City all three points againt Hull.Stoke City remain on course to achieve their best points total in the Premier League after a hard-working victory over Hull at the Britannia Stadium. Peter Odemwingie's well-taken goal, his third in as many games, was enough to secure the win for Mark Hughes's men. The former West Brom striker Odemwingie found the net just after the hour mark, intercepting Ahmed Elmohamady's cross- field pass before surging forward to drive home a low finish. Stoke manager Mark Hughes: "We deserved the results, made the better chances but we didn't have the spark in the first half. That was a credit to Hull because they came and defended well. When we got the goal lead, we were quite comfortable. We have won four in five which is good at Premier League level. "We have needed the threat in behind and Peter Odemwingie gives us that. Yobo, Tettey Are Classy – Hughton Norwich City of England defender, Joseph Yobo has gained another word of praise for his sterling roles with the club since arriving on loan from Fenerbahçe of Turkey in the January window, as his coach at Carrow Road, Chris Hughton is using the Super Eagles skipper as an example for others. As Yobo battles to regain fitness in time for this weekend’s English Premier League clash away to Southampton, following a knock that kept him out of the Eagles’ friendly against Mexico, Hughton says the Nigerian stopper is of top class. Hughton went ahead to use Yobo as a reference point for Alex Tettey, another Norwich player battling with injury, who is back in contention for the visit to Southampton this weekend after his Stoke City injury scare. Premier League transfer news from: Manchester City, Manchester United, Stoke City and West Ham United.
Dear Arsenal Moaners Society, I was proud of how my team responded on Saturday after a below-par display at Stoke City. We had a quality performance against Everton from the first to the last minute, and we needed that against a good side. I felt we dominated the first half and should have been ahead at half-time. Everton started the second half well and they had a big chance to go ahead through Ross Barkley, but after Mikel Arteta's penalty we controlled the match. Mikel deserves huge credit for the character he showed when his penalty had to be retaken. I was very relieved after the second one went in because I didn't understand the decision to rule out the first one. Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score our final two goals and it shows that he can make a difference. It's important to have players on the bench who can do that. I started Olivier on the bench because he has played many games. It was similar to Mesut Ozil last week, he was on the bench at Stoke. And I have to say that Mesut had a fan ...

Brendan Rodgers insists his Liverpool side is not contemplating a Premier League title tilt despite Saturday's results having seen his side move to second in the table. The Liverpool manager saw goals from Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard see off Southampton 3-0 at St Mary's Stadium on a day when Arsenal slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Stoke City. With Liverpool now four points off leaders Chelsea and ahead of Arsenal on goal difference, Rodgers remains calm when it comes to talk of a title challenge. "Everyone speaks about Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City and rightly so. For us, we're just concentrating on ourselves," he told Sky Sports. "We just want to keep improving, mentally we're getting stronger all the time. With 10 games to go, we'll just see where it takes us.

MANCITY VS CHELSEA TACTICAL BRIEF The pattern in previous rounds of this competition has been that Jose Mourinho has rested a few of the players who have played the most. In the previous round's win against Stoke City he made five changes. In came Mark Schwarzer for Petr Cech , Ashley Cole for Cesar Azpilicueta , Frank Lampard and second-debutant Nemanja Matic for John Mikel Obi and John Terry (replaced at the back by David Luiz ), and Andre Schurrle for Ramires . This time around Terry, who has missed his first Premier League minutes of the season in the last week, is out. Gary Cahill limped away from the disappointing draw at the Hawthorns on Tuesday so his fitness is being assessed ahead of this game. Branislav Ivanovic is a possibility to play centre-back with Cole and Azpilicueta as full- backs. Manuel Pellegrini also has factors to contend with. The postponement of the home game against Sunderland meant a free week for his team, though the fixture will have to be crammed into their busy schedule at ...

Did you know? John Terry has made 27 interceptions in the league this season - more than double the figure made by Cahill, who has played 17 games to Terry's 24. With Terry in the side, Chelsea have taken 10 points from a possible 12 against the Premier League's top four this season and have only conceded twice. Chelsea's clean sheet at Etihad Stadium on Monday ended Manchester City's run of scoring in 61 home league matches in a row. Manchester United hold the record - they found the net in 66 consecutive home league games. Keeping possession is often cited as a key factor for success at any international tournament and Terry, with 89%, has the highest passing accuracy of the capped English central defenders in the Premier League. Of England's capped central defenders currently playing in the Premier League, only Terry, Stoke City's Ryan Shawcross and Cardiff City's Stephen Caulker have played every minute for their club sides in the league this season.
By their own standards, Manchester United are officially in a mess It's been said before, but we might as well say it again: What has happened to last year's Premier League champions? The fact that Charlie Adam banged in two goals in a 2-1 win that made Stoke City the eighth side to down United tells you what kind of a state David Moyes' side are in. Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie all started, but United might as well have fielded the reserves for all the difference it made. The title went up in smoke weeks ago, but things have gone way beyond that point now - the way things are going, they'll be lucky to earn a Europa League spot. Unless there is a marked response at Old Trafford to end these continuing relapses, United's run of 17 consecutive seasons enjoying Champions League football - a greater number than any other club in Europe, including Real Madrid - is about to come to an end.
Manchester United must win their 14 remaining Premier League matches to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, according to defender Chris Smalling. The champions remain marooned in seventh place, seven points off fourth-placed Liverpool and England's final spot for Europe's premier club competition, following Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Stoke City. Their first league loss to Stoke since 1984 was their eighth of the season and came despite United being able to start Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata together for the first time. The Old Trafford club last missed out on Champions League qualification 19 years ago. "Each point that we drop makes it difficult for ourselves," Smalling told the club's website on Monday. "We can only take the next game as it comes, and other teams will drop points as well, but we need to stop dropping points. We need to put pressure on other teams. "We've got Fulham and then Arsenal so we've got some big games. We're back at Old Trafford next week ...
Steven Gerrard looked very comfortable in his new role as holding midfielder in Liverpool's ultimately disappointing draw with West Brom at the Hawthorns in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. It was after Liverpool's 5-3 victory at Stoke City last month that Brendan Rodgers first began to...
Super Eagles forward Osaze Odemwingie delighted over his team (Stoke City) 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the Premier League.
When Brendan Rodgers surveys the dressing room before Liverpool kick off their latest battle on the pitch, the manager sees a squad packed with the leadership qualities necessary in any team. As the boss' embodiment on the field and captain for more than a decade, Steven Gerrard has proven the credentials of his character on too many occasions to name - not least Tuesday's Merseyside derby. The whole squad, though, has drawn on reserves of spirit in recent times, notably in rescuing results and Barclays Premier League points from challenging match situations against Stoke City and Aston Villa. And as the Reds prepare for their next obstacle - a trip to West Bromwich Albion - Rodgers explained why the wealth of leaders congregated in one group can be crucial for his team's ambitions. He commented: "I looked at it the other night - Steven organising, dictating the game and ordering people about. "Martin Skrtel has really taken on board the leadership qualities and was outstanding the other night. Kolo Toure ...

Manchester United winger Nani out for another month Manchester United winger Nani will be out for another month but midfielder Michael Carrick is set to return for Saturday`s Premier League clash at Stoke City, manager David Moyes said.
There is a new sense of optimism in the Manchester United camp ahead of Saturday's match at Stoke City. Tuesday evening's 2-0 win against Cardiff City at Old Trafford not only earned the Red Devils a welcome victory - only their second in seven league and cup outings - the match also featured an impressive debut by club record signing Juan Mata, plus the return of star strikers Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney from lingering injuries. Spain midfielder Mata, who moved to United from Premier League rivals Chelsea last weekend for a club-record fee of 37.1 million pounds ($61.2 million), was applauded off the pitch on Tuesday after being substituted after 85 minutes. Netherlands striker Van Persie, who missed 11 matches due to a thigh problem, started against Cardiff and headed United in front after only six minutes. England forward Rooney came on as a 63rd-minute replacement for Van Persie after a five-match absence with groin trouble. Ashley Young scored a second for United just after the hour mark. Unite ...
Chelsea 0-0 West Ham: Hammers frustrate blunt Blues Sam Allardyce's men come away from Stamford Bridge with a point after putting in a well-disciplined defensive display, much to the chagrin of Jose Mourinho West Ham held out for a 0-0 draw as Chelsea had their Premier League title ambitions checked on a frustrating night at Stamford Bridge. Adrian produced a stunning early save, touching Oscar's shot against the crossbar, but the busy night the visiting goalkeeper might have expected never truly materialised. Chelsea dominated the play and Demba Ba was also denied by the woodwork late on, but the home side were persistently thwarted by a West Ham defence as tenacious as it was deep-lying. Andy Carroll also provided a muscular outlet in attack on an evening only soured by events elsewhere for manager Sam Allardyce, as Sunderland's win over Stoke City left them two points from safety. Chelsea are three points shy of the Premier League summit after Manchester City claimed top spot with victory at Tottenham ...
Nigerian striker, Peter Odemwingie insists he will hit the ground running at Barclays English Premier League club, Stoke City. The attacker was part of an exchange deal that saw Kenwyne Jones move to Cardiff City. Odemwingie has now set his sights on scoring goals for the Potters in the second half of the 2013/14 season.

Triunfo 'blue' over Stoke City Chelsea have qualified for the knockout because the butler inflicted 1-0 to Stoke City on Sunday, a victory embodied by Oscar 27 minutes. The City, which also played locally on the pulse of the FA Cup, and Chelsea already faced off in the semis of last year's tournament. FA Cup Draw: Mancity Vs Chelsea; Liverpool Vs Arsenal Chelsea were paired with Premier League title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal were pitted against Liverpool in an explosive FA Cup fifth-round draw on Sunday. Having managed to avoid each other in the competition’s opening rounds, the top flight’s four leading clubs will now come together in the last 16 on the weekend of February 15-16. Chelsea’s trip to the Etihad Stadium will follow hot on the heels of their away game at City a week on Monday, but the London club’s manager Jose Mourinho took the draw in his stride. “No problem. If you want to be the best, you have to play against the best,” he told ITV after his side’s 1-0 success at home to Stoke City in the fourth round on Sunday. “So it’s good for us — good experience, good game, big game, good.” Chelsea and City are considered the biggest challengers to current league leaders Arsenal, but Mourinho suggested that Manuel Pellegrini’s side would approach the tie as favouri ...

FRIDAY'S TRANSFER GOSSIP COLUMN Liverpool could turn to Spartak Moscow's Brazilian midfielder Romulo, 23, who has also been scouted by Arsenal and Chelsea, after learning that Lucas Leiva could miss up to two months with a knee injury. John Terry's career at Chelsea could be coming to an end Stoke City striker Peter Crouch could be re-united with former manager Harry Redknapp who hopes to take the 32-year-old to Queens Park Rangers. West Ham are closing in on a double swoop that would see Italy internationals Antonio Nocerino, 28, and Marco Borriello, 31, arrive at Upton Park on loan. Cardiff City's proposed loan move for winger Wilfried Zaha, 21, means they will have to sign Manchester United's Fabio da Silva, 23, on a permanent basis because a team cannot sign two loan players from the same Premier League club. Monaco striker Lacina Traore, 23, could still be allowed to move to Everton despite a serious injury to his team-mate Radamel Falcao. Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse, 28, has rejected the chance t ...
Football: Liverpool rue missed chance despite fightback Sports | Updated today at 07:11 AM LIVERPOOL (AFP) - Liverpool's Premier League title bid suffered a blow after they drew 2-2 with Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday, Jan 18, 2014. Brendan Rodgers's side fought back from 2-0 down after Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke had given Villa a deserved two-goal lead. But despite Daniel Sturridge's 11th goal league goal of the season and a Steven Gerrard penalty, Liverpool could only claim a point. And with leaders Arsenal victorious earlier in the day, this missed opportunity left Liverpool eight points adrift of top spot and seven behind second-place Manchester City. Liverpool made one change from the side that claimed a 5-3 win over Stoke City last time out, as Sturridge returned to the starting line-up, with Lucas Leiva dropping to the bench. Villa manager Paul Lambert handed on-loan Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand a debut, while striker Grant Holt, who has made a temporary switch from Wigan Athletic, ...
Crystal Palace and Stoke City are sharing a goalless draw, after 45 minutes of their Premier League meeting.
Crystal Palace make one change to their starting lineup for this afternoon's Premier League match at home to Stoke City.
Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis is not treating Saturday's clash with former side Stoke City differently to any other Premier League match.
MATCH PREVIEW Everton vs Norwich City These two teams head into this Goodison Park clash with very contrasting objectives. Everton, beaten just once in their last ten Premier League games, are just one point from the top four places and are looking to mount a serious push for Champions League qualification. Norwich on the other hand are staring at yet another relegation battle as they sit in 15th position, just three points clear of the relegation places – currently occupied by Crystal Palace, West Ham and Sunderland. With fellow Champions League hopefuls Liverpool playing Stoke City at the difficult Britannia Stadium on Sunday, this could be an ideal chance for the blue half of Merseyside to retake that coveted fourth spot. Norwich will simply be looking for a win of any kind – the Canaries haven’t registered a win in the league in the last five games. Team News Both these teams are struggling with extensive injury lists after the busy festive period left most squads weakened in several key areas. ...
Paul Merson's Premier League predictions - Week 21 A Villa vs Arsenal January 13, 2014 I can't see anything but an Arsenal win on Monday night. Aston Villa went out of the FA Cup to a League One team last week and that will kill the confidence of the players - and it will make Arsenal even more confident because if they're losing to Sheffield United then what chance will they have against Arsenal? Villa's home form is so atrocious that they're letting teams have 70 per cent of the possession against them and that can't be allowed to happen. To be honest, I see it as impossible for Villa to win but, of course, this is football... Arsenal's lack of pace won't be so much of a problem against Villa because they let you have too much of the ball. If you're conceding 70 per cent possession to a team with Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Tomas Rosicky then they are going to open you up by the end of the match. PAUL PREDICTS: 1-3 Stoke City vs Liverpool January 12, 2014 Stoke have only lost one game a ...
Stoke City transfer gossip: `Mame Diouf staying at Hannover' HANOVER chief coach Tayfun Korkut has tried to dampen the enthusiasm of Premier League suitors like Stoke City for Mame Biram Diouf. The 26 year-old striker appeared to be spoiling for a move earlier this week after a reportedly tardy return from his winter break. But Korkut, in a genuine attempt to either keep Diouf or increase his asking price, is now reported as saying: "When we have quality, we should protect it. "It would not be easy to find a replacement. "I do not get the impression that Mame's thoughts are somewhere else." Such sentiments, if an accurate reflection of Diouf's thinking, will certainly add another blow to Stoke's seemingly receding hopes of signing the Former Manchester United striker. But with Diouf out of contract in the summer, Hanover's eyes may yet light up at a reasonable offer in January. (B)
Mark Hughes mid-season review Tony Pulis managed Stoke City for almost seven years and took them to the Premier League where they have continued to play their own brand of football. Mark Hughes replaced him after the board decided a change in direction was needed and although he had a disturbingly quiet start, he has lifted Stoke up to 12th in the table and away from early season relegation worries. He was accused of trying to change too much too soon, but soon galvanised his team by mixing a short passing game with the long ball game they were used to. He has picked players on form, something his predecessor was criticised for not doing and has gotten the best out of players like Stephen Ireland and Charlie Adam. The Britannia Stadium is becoming a fortress again, but with the January window approaching he will be hoping to find a solution to his team's lack of goals. Illegal Immigrant
John Obi Mikel and Oscar both scored as Chelsea beat Derby County 2-0 to set up an all Premier League 4th round clash against Stoke City
Stoke City are closing in on a £5million deal for 22-year-old AZ Alkmaar striker Aron Johannsson as they look to improve their Premier League fortunes with a January transfer. Johannsson has scored 11 goals in 18 matches for Alkmaar this season having broken into the squad towards the back end of the last campaign with three goals in five games.

Newcastle United v Stoke City: match preview -
Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen have been left guessing over who will line up in goal to try to prevent Wayne Rooney and Co from shattering Stoke City's Wembley dreams this evening. Sorensen has played in Stoke's three previous Capital One Cup ties this season because Begovic is number one in the Premier League. But boss Mark Hughes says he will make a late decision on who gets the nod for tonight's Capital One Cup quarter-final at the Britannia Stadium (7.45pm). Hughes also has a big call to make on whether he is going to accommodate Jon Walters, who is now free from suspension, for either Marko Arnautovic or Oussama Assaidi. Stephen Ireland looks set to start, meanwhile, because he is ineligible to play against parent club Aston Villa on Saturday. Hughes is adamant he will name a powerful line-up – and insists a good cup run can go hand-in-hand with a profitable league return. He said: "I've gone strong in the earlier rounds, so why wouldn't I in the quarter-final?"There might be some changes, with ...

Fulham are confident of fending off competition from West Ham and Stoke City to re-sign Clint Dempsey on loan in January. The USA star scored 60 goals during five years with the Cottagers before his switch to Spurs in 2012, only to leave White Hart Lane for Seattle Sounders less than 12 months later. However, Dempsey is available on a short-term deal during the MLS off-season and Rene Meulensteen could swoop to bring the 30-year-old back to SW6. Asked about his January plans, the Dutchman said: "You need to look to the short term, what can we do now to make sure Fulham keeps its Premier League status." West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is desperate to add to his firepower in January after seeing his struggling side manage just 13 goals in 16 games. Stoke chief Mark Hughes, who worked with Dempsey during their time together at Fulham, is also weighing up a move.

With 29 goals scored, there is plenty of attacking talent on show, but based on recent form, who made the cut? Daniel Sturridge bows out following his medium-term injury, and we've got three new faces. Daniel Sturridge has been a mainstay in our Premier League Player rankings since the very first edition but drops out on an automatic basis after being ruled out for up to eight weeks. Everton midfielder Ross Barkley returned to the bench for his side's 4-0 win over Stoke City and therefore loses his spot at No. 10. Adam Lallana has put in two average showings, albeit against Romelu Lukaku has wasted no time in settling in at Everton, becoming their de facto No. 1 striker and notching eight goals in eight starts. He was on the scoresheet yet again this weekend and could have had more were it not for Gerard Deulofeu's excitement-induced greed. Last week, he bagged two in the Merseyside derby. Newcastle United have been quietly putting together an excellent run, and they're currently sitting on an impressive ...
Fulham confirm Jol exit After an uninspiring 3-0 Premier League defeat to West Ham on Saturday, the Dutchman leaves Craven Cottage, with countryman Rene Meulensteen promoted to assume his duties Fulham have parted ways with Martin Jol following the club's 3-0 loss to West Ham , installing head coach Rene Meulensteen in his place. The former Tottenham boss had long been under pressure for an uninspiring start to the season and speculation over his future increased after his compatriot was recruited to work alongside him on November 13. After defeat to the Hammers, Fulham find themselves in the Premier League relegation zone with 10 points after 13 games, their only victories coming over fellow strugglers Sunderland, Stoke City and Crystal Palace. "Today I spoke with Martin to thank him for his efforts on behalf of Fulham over the past three seasons and, in particular, since my becoming chairman earlier this year," owner Shahid Khan wrote in a club statement on Sunday. "Martin was very gracious and I apprec ...
Manchester United have gained a reputation as one of the best places for young footballers to ply their trade. It's a tradition that stems back to the ‘Golden Generation’ under Sir Alex Ferguson, when the likes of David Beckham, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes all graduated to the Red Devils first team. But, over the years, the current Premier League champions have let their fair share of top talent leave the club as well. 5.Ravel Morrison to West Ham United 4.Ryan Shawcross to Stoke City 3.Giuseppe Rossi to Villarreal 2.Gerard Pique to Barcelona 1.Paul Pogba to Juventus Comment if I have missed anyone
Preview: Everton v Stoke City, Premier League | Goodison Park | Sat 30 Nov | 3pm Billed as The most free-flowing clash between the sides in years. The lowdown When Everton and Stoke last met at Goodison, back in March, it was a 90 minutes best described as ‘laboured’, Kevin Mirallas’ fine solo winner the one moment of beauty in a yawn-fest between two very well-drilled, if somewhat cautious sides. Stoke City duo Robert Huth and Marko Arnautovic have been ruled out of Saturday's Premier League clash at Everton.
Stephen Ireland should be fit to give boss Mark Hughes a selection headache for Stoke City's trip to Everton on Saturday. But winger Jermaine Pennant looks like having to be more patient for his chance to burrow his way back into the matchday 18. Midfielder Ireland missed last Saturday's 2-0 Premier League victory over struggling Sunderland after a late call-off following an accidental incident in training the previous day. "There was about 30 seconds to go in training and we were having a little five-a-side when he did a kind of slide tackle on Oussama Assaidi," said assistant boss Mark Bowen. "He's caught the muscle on the inside of the shin bone and just went away from training a bit sore, but then on the morning of the match he was struggling to put his foot on the ground. "We sent him away for an x-ray as a precaution and fortunately that showed nothing."It has since settled down and he has trained again this week, so he should be available for the weekend again." That leaves Stoke with a likely choi ...
premiership weekday team It was a weekend of upsets during the 11th round of Premier League action – and our latest Team of the Week has some surprising new faces as a result. A sensational Saturday of action, in which Crystal Palace drew with Everton, Chelsea clung on to a 2-2 stalemate with West Brom and Aston Villa and Liverpool, Norwich City and Southampton picked up wins, set the tone for a thrilling weekend. But the action got even better on Sunday, when Newcastle won at White Hart Lane, Swansea drew 3-3 with Stoke City, Sunderland beat Manchester City and Manchester United conquered Arsenal. Our first member of this week's top team was in action on Sunday – and achieved a rather significant feat. Indeed, in single-handedly keeping a clean sheet for Newcastle, Tim Krul (5) was given the full five stars by our man at White Hart Lane, Jay Jaffa. Alan Pardew described the shot stopper as the best Dutch goalkeeper and the Magpies were left indebted to him for a memorable away-day win. In defence, me ...

League Cup: Birmingham City 4 Stoke City 4 (aet, pens 2-4) Stoke City overcame Birmingham City on penalties, after throwing three leads away in a thrilling 4-4 League Cup draw at St Andrew's. Stoke had been 3-1 up on Tuesday, following the first-half dismissal of Birmingham’s Wade Elliott, but two late Peter Lovenkrands goals took the game to extra time. Kenwyne Jones then put Stoke back in front but substitute Olly Lee got a 118th-minute equaliser, his first senior goal, to take the game to penalties. Birmingham missed their first two spot kicks, Mitch Hancox and Callum Reilly off target, and though they converted their third and fourth, Stoke scored each of their first three, leaving Steven N'Zonzi to step up and fire home the winner, sending the visitors through to just their second League Cup quarter-final since 1978-79. Stoke boss Mark Hughes made five changes from Saturday’s defeat at Old Trafford and two of his inclusions - Marc Muniesa and Ousama Assaidi - combined to put the Premier League ou ...
Massive upset in the Premier League today as Manchester United beat Stoke City at Old Trafford.
Javier Hernandez has proved to be the scourge of Stoke City for United but Robin Van Persie is another Red who clearly enjoys meeting the Potters. The Dutchman has three goals in three outings against Stoke after finding the net in both fixtures with them in his debut campaign at Old Trafford. Furthermore, including his figures for Arsenal, he now has nine goals from his last seven Premier League appearances against the Britannia Stadium outfit.

Manchester United 3-2 Stoke City: Moyes got the acceptable substitution this time! Hard to walk in Fergie's shoes!
Five Things To Look For David Moyes’ team go on the hunt for all three points against Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday. It’s a fixture that's gone only one way in recent years... Dominant Reds United have a fine record against Stoke and are unbeaten at home against the Potters since 1976. The Reds have won nine and drawn one of the 10 Premier League meetings between the two sides and the last 10 in all competitions at Old Trafford. This weekend’s visitors have only managed to score three times here since they last left with a point, way back in December 1980. Sparky’s Back Former Reds striker Mark Hughes will be back in familiar surroundings but Sparky has struggled as a manager against his old club. He has won just twice in 15 attempts when managing sides against United, and his only victory as a visitor at Old Trafford came back when he was in charge of Blackburn in 2005. Hughes’ last trip ended with his QPR side beaten 2-0 thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes. Van th ...

There will also be interviews with Everton defender Phil Jagielka, Hull City midfielder Tom Huddlestone and Stoke City assistant manager Mark Bowen.
Gnabry - I'm ready to be a regular Serge Gnabry feels ready to establish himself as a first-team regular at Arsenal. The 18-year-old made his full Premier League debut at the weekend as a late replacement for Theo Walcott, and he acquitted himself well against a muscular Stoke City side. According to Arsène Wenger, Gnabry has a “fantastic opportunity” to stake a first-team claim in the wake of Walcott’s abdominal injury, and he gets another chance on Wednesday as a young Gunners squad travels to West Bromwich Albion in the Capital One Cup. “I think I'm close [to being a regular],” said Gnabry, speaking ahead of the Stoke game. “I've been around the squad for most of the games now so I think it's going very well and I'm pleased with the situation I'm in right now. “I need a couple more games to get back my match sharpness and I need to improve on my technique and my weaker foot. The game is quicker [at this level], other players are stronger and faster so it's really difficult to defend but ...

Ah, the Manchester Derby. Arguably the most entertaining derby in all the land, the battle between blue and red in the city of Manchester returns to audiences this Sunday on NBCSN. Both sides enter the match with new managers at the helm in Manuel Pellegrini and David Moyes, and even on record at 2-1-1 means a loss for either club could result in them slipping out of the Top 5. David Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini both make their derby debut this Sunday. For City, they enter the match not only looking to take points from their rival but also to set right an inconsistent start to the season. After a dominant 4-0 victory over Newcastle to start the season, City lost 3-2 to Cardiff before skipping past Hull City 2-0 in a hard fought match and drawing 0-0 with Stoke City. Aside from last weekend’s lifeless offensive performance at the Britannia, City’s main problem has been in defense. With Vincent Kompany injured for the first four Premier League matches of the season, Pellegrini was forced to deploy cente ...
Matthew Etherington is promising to go in with nearly all guns blazing to try and finally end Stoke City's hoodoo at Arsenal. Stoke travel to North London on Sunday (1.30pm) seeking their first Premier League point at the Emirates after drawing blanks on their previous five visits. And Etherington believes Stoke's current confidence, plus their positive approach under boss Mark Hughes, could do the trick. Details"It would be a massive result if we got one, but we are capable of doing it," said Etherington."We will give Arsenal the respect they deserve, but our confidence is high after the way we have played this season and we feel we can get a result"We have got to have a go – and I'm sure that's what the manager will want us to do. "It's a case of finding the right mix of being solid, working hard and not being too open, but also having a threat going the other way and not being backs-to-the-wall, which is what we have done in the past."Against top teams you have to be strong and solid, otherwise they w ...
