Chelsea vs Manchester City Premier League clash to be refereed by Mark Clattenburg Mark Clattenburg will take charge of this weekend's top-of-the-table clash between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
Mark Clattenburg TO REFEREE CHELSEA VS Manchester City CLASH Mark Clattenburg has been selected to referee Saturday's Barclays Premier League title showdown between Chelsea and Manchester City. Clattenburg is considered one of England's top referees but has a history of controversy with both clubs, who sit first and second ahead of the clash at Stamford Bridge. City boss Manuel Pellegrini claimed Clattenburg cost his team victory during a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in September and the Chilean also criticised decisions made by the same official in his side's 3-2 defeat to Liverpool last season. Chelsea also have history with Clattenburg, who was falsely accused of racially abusing Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel during a league match with Manchester United in October 2012. Clattenburg is one of two English officials in UEFA's elite category along with Martin Atkinson. He was put in charge of last season's Europa League semi- final second leg between Benfica and Juventus and then the Super Cup Final between Rea ...
After being left "embarrassed" by Bradford City, Jose Mourinhohas demanded a response as his Chelseaside seek to reach the League Cup final against Liverpoolon Tuesday. Premier League leaders Chelsea were dumped out of the FA Cup by their League One opponents at Stamford Bridge on Saturday after throwing away a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 in one of the biggest upsets in the competition's prestigious history. Speaking in the aftermath of the shock defeat, manager Mourinho stated his players should feel "ashamed" of themselves. However, the Portuguese has no time to dwell on the setback as Chelsea host Liverpool in their semi-final second leg, with the tie nicely poised at 1-1. "I always said that I don't choose competitions [to prioritise] and we go match after match," he said. "The most important competition now is the League Cup because it is the next game. "Obviously the Premier League is in front of the cups but the way we prepare in a serious and a professional way, I can't say we don't care about the . ...
There was tremendous drama at Stamford Bridge this afternoon as Premier League big guns Chelsea Football Clublost 2-4 to League One side Bradford City Football Club (Official page) in The FA Cup Fourth Round. Read Jamie Reid's match report here:
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho remained coy on reports linking the Premier League leaders with a move for Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado. Reports in recent days have suggested that the Blues are willing to activate the £26.8 million release clause of the Colombian if either Mohamed Salah or Andre Schurrle depart Stamford Bridge this month. But while Mourinho refused to guarantee that the out-of-favour duo will stay at Chelsea, he would not be drawn on whether Cuadrado is a January target. "There are no men marked [to come in]," he told reporters when specifically asked about a move for the Colombian. Asked if Andre Schurrle and Mohammed Salah would definitely be staying at the club, he said: "I cannot say that. Window is open. I like them, I need them, I trust them. "Salah is selected for tomorrow [versus Bradford]. Schurrle is the same. Selected for tomorrow." When pressed on Schurrle's situation, Mourinho responded: "The principle is we would like him to stay... the question is to have a phenomenal off ...
Fiorentina Manager Insists Juan Cuadrado Is Not Leaving for Chelsea Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Montella insists there is 'no possibility' of Juan Cuadrado leaving the club for Chelsea this month, according to the Standard. The Colombian was said to be in talks with the Premier League leaders over a potential move to Stamford Bridge, with Sky Sports reporting on Wednesday that the player's representatives were flying to London to thrash out a deal - even though the two clubs had yet to agree a fee.
Hazard scores his fourth penalty of the campaign Sterling equalises with individual goal Mourinho unbeaten in four games against Rodger Chelsea lost just one of their last eight against Reds Raheem Sterling's superb individual goal earned Liverpool a fully deserved draw and ensured the Capital One Cup semi-final with Chelsea remains finely balanced. Eden Hazard's first-half penalty gave Chelsea the advantage but Liverpool were rewarded for another illustration of their rapid recent improvement when England forward Sterling showed searing pace followed by good composure to equalise on the hour. Reds unfortunate not to win - Rodgers Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes the side that came so close to winning the Premier League title last season have regained that identity in the past month as new signings settle in - and there was plenty of evidence to support his claim at Anfield. Chelsea will feel they hold the slight advantage ahead of next Tuesday's second leg at Stamford Bridge but it was only tha ...
Jose Mourinho stopped talking to the media for a week or so. Then he opened his mouth again and implored Chelsea fans not to taunt Steven Gerrard at Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup semi-final. It was not exactly a case of rationing your breath. Mourinho might as well have urged moths to stop head-butting lightbulbs. Chelsea fans, lambasted by their managerfor not making enough noise at Stamford Bridge this season, will surely give Gerrard dog’s abuse at Anfield to remind him of the fateful slip which allowed Demba Ba to score and wrecked his own chance of finally winning the Premier League. The SEVEN reasons why Lionel Messi could make £200MILLION Chelsea move: 1) There are suggestions the Argentine is unhappy with his pay packet at Barcelona. He signed a new contract in May that earns him £16m a year after tax - but his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo earns £19m a year at Real Madrid. This has apparently caused friction between Messi's camp and Barca. 2) Messi is the all-time top goalscorer in La Liga and the Champions League. But he wants to play in the Premier League and turning 28 in June he could feel the timing is perfect for a move to England. 3) Barca have slapped an astonishing £200m price tag on their star man. But according to sources close to the player, Adidas (Chelsea club sponsor and kit supplier) are ready to help fund the deal in order to steal Messi from their big rivals Nike (who sponsor Barca). 4) Cesc Fabregas left the Nou Camp for Chelsea this summer and is trying to persuade his close friend, his future lies at Stamford Bridge too. 5) Messi wants to live in London. Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the evening and are fit and raring to go. City kick off the New Year with a home fixture against Sunderland and will look to bounce back from the 2-2 draw at home to Burnley which saw them miss the opportunity to close the gap on Chelsea. They will start favourites against Sunderland in a month that sees them travel to Everton and host Arsenal before the trip to Stamford Bridge that is looming large on the calendar. There are also (hopefully) a couple of FA Cup ties to be played too. I don’t expect many changes to the side by Manuel Pellegrini for the game, with the Sheffield Wednesday game on Sunday likely to have the greater number of changes. It does appear as though Frank Lampard may not feature as his loan agreement ends on December 31st and the Premier League window does not re-open until January 3rd, leaving him very much in lim ...
Jose Mourinho has "planted a seed" and put pressure on referees after claiming there is a clear campaign against Chelsea, says Gary Neville. Mourinho was left incensed when referee Anthony Taylor failed to award a penalty for a 55th-minute trip by Matt Targett on Cesc Fabregas and instead booked the Spain international for diving. Mourinho blamed the Fabregas booking on recent accusations of diving made against Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic, who was named by Sam Allardyce in the wake of West Ham's Boxing Day defeat at Stamford Bridge. Neville told Sky Sports he believes Mourinho knows there is no campaign against Chelsea from referees, but insists he is planting a seed to put referees under pressure in the future. "He has planted a seed for the rest of the season," Neville said. "He'll probably take a fine for that. "What Mourinho has done today has said he's drawing a line in the sand and said 'I'm not accepting this any more', letting the referees know this is unacceptable for the rest of the seaso ...
Still making rounds...RSI'S FINEST Neil Warnock becomes first Premier League casualty of the season as Crystal Palace axe boss Chelsea maintain perfect Stamford Bridge record with West Ham win Eriksen curls in another winner on the road as Spurs close in on top four
Yaya Toure shrugged off John Terry's claim the title-race pressure is all on Manchester City by leading Manuel Pellegrini's men to a 3-1 victory at West Brom. Chelsea captain Terry said "it's going to be tough" for his side's rivals to stay close to the pacesetters after the Blues took a temporary six-point Premier League lead with a 2-0 victory over West Ham. Terry also said Chelsea's early Boxing Day kick-off and ninth consecutive Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge heaped the pressure on second-placed City. Toure and company had other ideas however, the Ivorian netting a penalty to send City 2-0 up in just 13 minutes at The Hawthorns following Fernando's opener. David Silva added City's third goal in the first half, before the visitors shut up shop to coast home after the turnaround despite Brown Ideye netting for West Brom late on. The Etihad Stadium side stretched their winning run to nine games in all competitions, and seven in the Premier League. Terry's header and Diego Costa's 13th goal of ...
7 - Diego Costa has scored in seven of his eight Premier League appearances at Stamford Bridge (9 goals). Guarantee.
Three Points: Chelsea ease to victory vs. West Ham John Terry and Diego Costa scored as Chelsea enjoyed a comfortable win over West Ham. Here's a trio of observations on Chelsea's 2-0 victory in the Premier League on Boxing Day. 1. Chelsea are back in the groove This Boxing Day game was effectively wrapped up when Diego Costa, seizing onto Eden Hazard's pass after Cheikhou Kouyate had given the ball away, sent three defenders in one direction with a swerve of the hips and flashed an irresistible second goal across Adrian with his left foot. There was no doubt about the outcome after that, and although Chelsea might have been steeling themselves for a tougher 90 minutes, there is no doubt that they look to be back on track after the blip -- if that's what it was -- of a few weeks ago. Two unhappy experiences in the north-east, drawing at Sunderland and losing at Newcastle, had combined with an upturn from Manchester City to cast a first shadow of doubt over Chelsea's apparent status as title shoo-ins. But ...
TODAYS MATCH RESULT AND REPORT CHELSEA 2 West Ham 0 three points clear at end of day scores 13th PL goal of season Ham have won one of last 17 PL games v Blues Leaders Chelsea tightened their grip on the Premier League's top spot with a commanding victory over West Ham. The Blues had already come close through Oscar and Gary Cahill when John Terry turned in Diego Costa's header from close range. After a tame first half, West Ham offered more in the second, but their hopes were snuffed out by Costa's drilled finish just after the hour. Morgan Amalfitano hit the post late on but Chelsea racked up 28 shots at goal. Chelsea look set to finish 2014 at the top of the table - and the quality of their performance suggested they may well still be there in May. Jose Mourinho accused West Ham of playing "19th century football" after the teams' goalless draw at Stamford Bridge in January, but this Blues side, with the attacking threat Costa and Cesc Fabregas, never looked like being denied. The visitors' style has ta ...

Chelsea FC news: Jose Mourinho calls Christmas truce with West Ham’s Sam Allardyce after ‘stupid’ comments Respect: Jose Mourinho (right) and Sam Allardyce (left) have become closer Photo: GETTY IMAGES Jose Mourinho has called a Christmas truce with Sam Allardyce by admitting that it was “stupid” to accuse West Ham United of playing football from the 19th-century last season. Mourinho also believes that Allardyce, 60, should be named manager of the year if the West Ham manager keeps his team in the Premier League top four. West Ham secured a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge last season, which helped them to secure top-flight safety, but they travel to Chelsea, the league leaders, in fourth place this term. The Hammers’ backs-to-the-wall display in January prompted Mourinho to say: “This is football from the 19th centur ...

Confirmation of the blow to FA Cup tradition came after BBC and BT Sport revealed that their total of five televised matches, all involving Premier League teams, would be staged on Sunday, Monday and — for the first time — Tuesday. The FA have caved into demands from Premier League teams, who are playing a full set of fixtures on New Year’s Day, to play no earlier than the Sunday. The decision to bow to this pressure means only half the teams in the third-round draw will play on the Saturday. BBC will show the prestigious clash between AFC Wimbledon v Liverpool (Monday) plus Arsenal v Hull (Sunday). BT Sport will feature Dover v Crystal Palace (Sunday), Accrington or Yeovil v Manchester United (Sunday) and Everton v West Ham (Tuesday). Chelsea’s clash with Watford at Stamford Bridge has also been moved to Sunday at 4pm.
host Hull, Arsenal face Magpies Jose Mourinho expects Chelsea to make amends for their first defeat of the season when the Premier League leaders host Hull on Saturday. Mourinho's side saw their 23-match unbeaten run in all competitions come to a surprise end with a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle last weekend. The loss allowed second placed Manchester City to close within three points of the Blues. But Chelsea quickly got back to winning ways against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League in midweek and Mourinho is confident his players will maintain their recovery by seeing off struggling Hull at Stamford Bridge. "The response is to play well and to try to win every game. It's what we are doing since the beginning of the season," Mourinho said. "Results are results, but what can we do more than we are doing? "Playing very, very well. Not one single bad performance, good spirit, good individual performances. "You cannot be better than first in the Premier League, top of the league in the group phase and quarter ...
Champions League Wrap Manchester City have pulled off a 2-0 win over AS Roma in Italy to book their spot in the Round of 16 in the Uefa Champions League. Manuel Pellegrini’s City side required victory at the Stadio Olimpico to finish second behind group winners Bayern Munich and produced exactly that courtesy of second-half goals from Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta. The opener came on the hour-mark when Nasri fired home a stunning attempt from range before Zabaleta’s 86th-minute goal assured City a path through to the knockout phase of Europe’s premier club competition. The reigning Premier League champions will join German giants Bayern in the final 16 after Pep Guardiola’s men accounted for CSKA Moscow 3-0 at home thanks to goals from Thomas Muller (penalty), Sebastian Rode and Mario Gotze. In Group G, Chelsea finished six points clear on top after beating Sporting Lisbon 3-1 at Stamford Bridge with early goals from Cesc Fabregas (penalty) and Andre Schurrle setting up the triumph before John Ob ...

The Gunners were the first team out of the hat in Monday's draw at Hull's 'The Deep' aquarium and will once again take on the side they defeated in extra-time to end a nine-year trophy drought at Wembley in May. Brendan Rodgers' men, meanwhile, will continue their bid for a first FA Cup triumph since 2006 with a trip to Kingsmeadow to take on League Two opponents who have reached the third round for the first time. Chelsea out to exorcise recent demons vs. Newcastle on Tyneside December 5, 2014 7:43:01 AM PST By Phil Lythell As the games begin to pile up and test the durability of every Premier League squad, Chelsea take their unbeaten record to the northeast of England when they face Newcastle United in a fixture bereft of fond memories in recent years. The Blues have come away with nothing from their last two visits to St James' Park, and while it might not be a run to compare with Tottenham's winless streak at Stamford Bridge that now stands at 24 years after Wednesday night's game, they will doubtless approach this clash with a healthy dose of pragmatism. The 2-0 defeat 13 months ago saw a lethargic Chelsea contained in the first half before being outthought and outfought after the break. The season before, a defensive aberration from John Terry saw them relinquish a 2-1 lead in a match that they were controlling, eventually falling 3-2 to a late winner after a pulsating, if infuriating, 90 minutes. After their ...

Chelsea's dominance at the top of the Premier League continues to roll on thanks to another incredibly impressive win this evening, which was made even easier by a Tottenham side that started well but ended up crumbling under the pressure that the hosts exerted on them. Chelsea v Tottenham: Blues do not intimidate me, insists Mauricio Pochettino Mauricio Pochettino has urged Tottenham to take the bull by the horns at Chelsea tonight. Spurs have not beaten the Premier League leaders at Stamford Bridge since February 1990 but Pochettino gave no hint that he would adopt a cautious style against Jose Mourinho’s team. As coach of Espanyol, Pochettino took on Real Madrid and Barcelona at their peak, famously leading his side to a 2-1 victory at the Nou Camp in February 2009, shortly after he had taken charge of Barca’s unfashionable city rivals. “They do not intimidate me,” said Pochettino, who has led his team to back-to-back wins in the League for the first time since the start of the season. “I have full respect for sides like Chelsea and Manchester City but I always believe we can beat them. “This is my mentality. It is difficult to play against sides of this quality but always, you need to believe you can win. That is what we want to show.” As Tottenham appr ...

Mikel has been nothing but a squad player at Stamford Bridge this season, with his limited style of defensive play doing little to worry the more all-rounded Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic. The duo - both signed in 2014 - have claimed the double-pivot starting places as their own, and they have arguably been two of the best midfielders in the Premier League this term. When either is missing, it has been on Oscar to drop deep and fill the void, or Ramires to come off the bench and provide his own brand of energy-filled midfield play. With all the bases covered, Mourinho has had little need to call upon John Obi Mikel this campaign, and the 27-year-old - something of a veteran at Stamford Bridge since joining the club in 2006 - could be keen to move away from West London in January. He has yet to make a Premier League start this season, and he has registered just 107 minutes of action in six substitute appearances. A remarkably competent Premier League player, Mikel could be the perfect target for two of C ...
Clinical Costa The Premier League has seen many great strikers over the years but few have been as clinical as Diego Costa for Chelsea so far this season. Adam Bate looks at the numbers... By Adam Bate Having attended Stamford Bridge with a West Brom supporter last weekend, it was curious to hear him enthuse about the chance to see Diego Costa in the flesh. For while Eden Hazard is a visceral experience to enrich the senses, Costa is more of a brooding presence stalking the fringes of your attention. Hardly involved. And then comes the goal. It’s less of a spectacle than you’d expect of a matador from Madrid, the killing stroke delivered instead like a bullet to the brain. The strike against West Brom on Saturday was Costa’s 11th Premier League goal of the season. Of the 10 other players who’ve found the net five times or more this season only Charlie Austin and Diafra Sakho have had fewer touches or attempted fewer passes. It’s a clue that Costa is not acting as a link-up man at Chelsea. But th ...

Chelsea maintain lead as Toure rescues Man City: Diego Costa scored again as Chelsea established a seven-point lead at the Premier League summit by comfortably beating ten-man West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Costa opened the scoring in the 11th minute, leaping into the air to control Oscar’s left-wing cross on his chest and then slamming a side-foot volley past Ben Foster for his 11th goal of the campaign. Eden Hazard added a second in the 25th minute, smuggling a deflected shot beneath Foster from Cesc Fabregas’s corner, before West Brom’s Claudio Yacob was sent off for a two-footed challenge on Costa. Victory saw Chelsea set a new club record of 12 unbeaten games from the start of the season. Jose Mourinho’s side are now seven points clear of second-place Southampton, who visit Aston Villa on Monday, and remain eight points above defending champions Manchester City, who won 2-1 at home to Swansea City. 1.What do you make of Jason Cundy's comment? 2.Do you see Cech moving to Arsenal? 3.Do you agree that Arsenal is not Premier League title rivals? Jose Mourinho wouldn't try to block Petr Cech from moving to Arsenal, according to ex-Chelsea defender Jason Cundy, because he doesn't see the Gunners as Premier League challengers. Cech, 32, was linked to the likes of Real Madrid, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain in August after losing his number one spot to Thibaut Courtois, but Mourinho has continued to express his desire to keep the veteran at Stamford Bridge. "By signing for Arsenal, Cech could stay in London and he'd get regular playing time at a big club.” "Would Cech be a good signing for Arsenal?
Profitable Chelsea can cement domestic and European dominance By Liam Twomey Blues have managed to reinvigorate their squad while balancing the books, and are now in prime position to enjoy new levels of success on and off the pitch For the best part of three months, the rest of the Premier League has been waiting for Chelsea to be confronted with some bad news. On the pitch, Jose Mourinho’s men are top of the table, unbeaten and with no serious rival in sight. Off it, Thursday provided the most emphatic indication yet that the wait for their competitors could be a long one. The announcement of Chelsea’s annual financial results has rarely been a proud moment at Stamford Bridge during the Roman Abramovich era. Many of the releases over the past 10 years have followed a familiar pattern: heavy losses accompanied by vague reassertions of a “long- term plan” and seemingly far-fetched promises that one of English football’s most consistently decadent clubs would one day become “self- sufficient” ...
CECH: CHELSEA WILL DECIDE MY FUTURE The Czech international still has two years remaining on his current contract Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has been under heavy speculation regarding his future at Stamford Bridge hence the return of Thibaut Courtois to the club. Courtois, who spent three seasons on loan at Spanish side Atletico Madrid, has removed Cech as Chelsea's first-choice keeper since returning to West London at the start of this campaign, starting in all the Blues' Premier League fixtures this season. The Belgian has also recently signed a new five-year contract at Chelsea, which has increased the chances of Cech making a move away from Stamford Bridge; with both PSG and Real Madrid highly interested in signing the 32-year-old. However, Cech has assured to the media that any decision regarding his future will be made by the club. "As concerns my future at Chelsea, it depends entirely on the club. Everyone is asking me what if and what will be," the Czech international said. "As a player, who has ...
Demba Ba: Why I would avoid Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after a defeat Former Chelsea forward Demba Ba claims it was best to avoid Jose Mourinho after a defeat during his short stint working with the Special One. Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013, where he linked up with Senegal star Ba. But Mourinho could not mark his first season back at Chelsea with a trophy, with late season defeats to Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Sunderland ending his chances of clinching the Premier League title. Ba, who left Chelsea for Turkish outfit Besiktas in the summer, has suggested that his former team-mates will need to maintain their unbeaten start to the new season to avoid Mourinho's wrath. "Mourinho hates losing, I wouldn't recommend trying to talk to him after a loss but he is great to be around after a win," Ba reportedly told turkishfootball.com. “Bilic is a great manager but his technical staff are excellent, they are brilliant football minds and understand the game inside out” Demba B ...
Blues made to wait for new stadium? The Premier League’s runaway leaders Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their bid to relocate from current home Stamford Bridge. The Mirror reports that a seven year wait is on the cards if The Blues are serious about their intentions to build a new stadium. In 2012 Chelsea made a £300million bid in order to secure the Battersea Power Station site; unfortunately though a Malaysian consortium secured ownership of the site having outbid them, and since then the club have rejected the prospect of moving to Earl’s Court and Old Oak Common, the newspaper reports. Redevelopment? The club have clearly stated their desire to remain as close as possible to Stamford Bridge, and have even considered the possibility of a further redevelopment of the venue. Their current home has a capacity of less than 42,000, meaning that in terms of finance obtained on a match day, Chelsea’s £1.5million a year and £35million per-season is significantly less than other clubs, such as Londo ...
Chelsea may sell Ramires Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for Ramires and could be prepared to sell him in January, Goal understands. Jose Mourinho has told Stamford Bridge chiefs that he would be prepared for the Brazilian to leave if a proven midfield replacement can be found. Spanish clubs, led by Real Madrid, are understood to be monitoring the availability of Ramires. The 27-year-old has struggled with injury and poor form this season, starting just three of the team's 16 matches in all competitions. He has been overlooked in favour of Premier League ever-presents Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas for the central midfield slots and has had to fight with the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian and Andre Schurrle for an attacking midfield position.
Gary Neville has expressed his belief that Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta is the best defender in the Premier League. The Blues have the second best defensive record in the league this season as they have conceded 10 goals in their 10 matches, and Neville feels that the Spaniard's consistency separates him from his teammates at Stamford Bridge. "I'd say, for consistency of performances, it would be one of the Chelsea lads and I'd probably say Azpilicueta," Neville told Sky Sports News . "For technical defending, not making a mistake, not being in the wrong position, not getting caught out... I don't see him making a mistake. And I have to say the Chelsea defenders aren't far behind him; Gary Cahill, John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic . "But Azpilicueta, when I watch him, he's as near to perfect as possible when it comes to defending; he's immaculate." The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in 2012 from Marseille.
A new month begins this weekend with a meeting of sides who share a London borough. Club historian Rick Glanvill and club statistician Paul Dutton supply the derby details… TALKING POINTS Welcome home to Chelsea’s brilliant travelling fans, publicly hailed for their vociferous support at Old Trafford and New Meadow by Didier Drogba as well as an emotional former Blue, Juan Mata. The undefeated league leaders and top scorers are seeking to extend a perfect start to the domestic campaign at Stamford Bridge. This is our first Barclays Premier League game on the Fulham Road in almost a month and, for once, Jose Mourinho and his side have the chance to extend the advantage over the Citizens to nine points before they tackle the Manchester derby on Sunday. City lost again at home to Newcastle in midweek and have recorded just two clean sheets in their last 13 matches. The team closest to the Blues’ coat-tails, Southampton, also face a test at Hull City, who have drawn with Arsenal and Liverpool in success ...
Chelsea6 Remy 13′ Drogba 23′ (pen) Terry 31′ Viler 54′ (og) Hazard 77′ (pen), 90′ NK Maribor0 Didier Drogba scored his first goal since rejoining Chelsea as they recorded their biggest Champions League win with a dominant victory against Maribor at Stamford Bridge. Loic Remy swept in the opener but was quickly replaced by Drogba after injuring himself when scoring. Drogba then converted a penalty before John Terry slid in a third. A Mitja Viler own goal put Chelsea in command before Eden Hazard scored a penalty and drove in a late sixth. Agim Ibraimi hit the post with a penalty for Maribor, but in truth the Slovenians were well beaten. Chelsea have seven points from three games to sit top of Group G, and will be confident of reaching the knockout stage. It was almost the perfect win for boss Jose Mourinho, although the injury to Remy was a cause for concern. With Diego Costa out with a hamstring injury, the Blues could face Sunday's Premier League trip to Manchester United with Drogba as the c ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho does not expect striker Loic Remy to be fit for Sunday's trip to Manchester United in the Premier League. Remy suffered a "muscular injury" after scoring the opener in the Blues' 6-0 Champions League win against Maribor at Stamford Bridge. Nine-goal striker Diego Costa has a hamstring injury, leaving Didier Drogba as Chelsea's only fit senior striker. "I'm not worried. We don't cry on injuries," said Mourinho. "When a player is injured, play another one. "It's our philosophy, we don't cry. We just think one injury means an opportunity for somebody else. "We will prepare for the game [against Manchester United] Thursday, Friday, Saturday to try to be at our best possible level against an opponent which we respect very, very much."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has apologised for shoving his Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho on the touchline during a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge. "Too much importance was given to this story but I should not have reacted like this. I always regret any signs of violence and I apologise for it," the Frenchman told French TV channel TF1.
Lampard: Costa can be as good as Drogba Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, believes that Diego Costa can become as great a player as Didier Drogba. Costa has made a truly brilliant start to his Chelsea career. Signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window for a fee of £32 million, the Spain international striker has taken the Premier League by storm. The 26-year-old has scored nine goals in just seven league appearances, while creating 11 chances for his teammates. Costa has a laudable shot accuracy of 84% and a pass accuracy of 78%, and comparisons have already been made between him and Didier Drogba. Drogba is a Chelsea legend and one of the greatest strikers to have ever played in the Premier League, and many football pundits have claimed that Costa could go on to achieve what the Ivorian did at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard, himself a Chelsea legend and now on loan at Manchester City from New York City FC, seems to be of a similar opinion. ‘Possibly yes’, the former England international ...
Roy Keane: Mourinho Is A Disgrace Roy Keane has branded Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho 'a disgrace' for the manner in which he conducts himself on the touchline. The Irishman, who is now assistant manager to Paul Lambert at Aston Villa, was left incensed by Mourinho during a recent Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge. With the final minutes being played out, Mourinho approached the Villa bench in an effort to shake hands with Lambert and his staff before the final whistle sounded. Keane considers that gesture to have been a mark of disrespect, with the Portuguese tactician pushing the boundaries of acceptability with his off-field antics. He said at the launch of his new autobiography, "I don’t mind all that (mind games) but the game was still going on. It’s disgraceful. I’ve seen him doing it to other managers, it is a disgrace. "You wouldn’t do that on a Sunday morning, you would get knocked out." Keane, who has spent time as a manager in his own right at Sunderland and Ipswich Town, has al ...
Petr Cech has indicated that he will leave Chelsea if he remains as the club’s second-choice goalkeeper. The 32-year-old has featured only twice this season, with Jose Mourinho preferring Thibaut Courtois in both the Premier League and Champions League. Cech has been Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper for 10 seasons since his arrival from Rennes in 2004 and insists he is not prepared to stay on the bench at Stamford Bridge this term. "I have not spoken to anyone, but I think they know me well enough at the club to know that the situation is definitely not the way I would imagine,” Cech told Czech radio. “With the Euros [in 2016] and the national team in mind, there is no time for me to sit on the bench and not to play. “If the situation will not start to improve for me, then I will want to solve it."
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been given the all-clear following tests on the head injury he suffered against Arsenal. Courtois collided with Alexis Sanchez early in Sunday's game at Stamford Bridge and was later substituted and taken to hospital - apparently with bleeding from the ear. Chelsea have now confirmed that blood came from a cut and say Courtois should be fit to join up with the Belgium squad later this week. A club statement read, "Chelsea can confirm Thibaut Courtois went to hospital during our Premier League game against Arsenal for precautionary tests on a head injury. Those tests came back all clear. "Thibaut was treated for a minor cut to his ear and was released from hospital last night." The Premier League, meanwhile, says it is satisfied Chelsea complied with new rules governing the treatment of suspected concussion. Under the guidelines, which were brought in before this season, club doctors have the final say on whether players are substituted. One of the most senior medica ...
The Blues eventually ran out comfortable winners at Stamford Bridge after the Belgian forward won and converted a first-half penalty and Cesc Fabregas inspired their second goal Chelsea continued their fine record against Arsenal with a hard-fought 2-0 Premier League win that was more than a little ill-tempered.
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal - Match Report SUMMARY Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the Premier League is over after they were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. In a tightly-contested first half, the Gunners fell behind in the 27th minute when Eden Hazard converted from the spot after he was felled by Laurent Koscielny. The Gunners responded brightly though, with Jack Wilshere having a decent opening after fine work from Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla but his touch was slightly too heavy. Arsène Wenger’s side continued to up the tempo after the interval, with Cazorla and Calum Chambers both coming close with firm efforts. But Chelsea wrapped up the points on 78 minutes as former Gunner Cesc Fabregas lifted a pass over the top for Diego Costa to run on to and lob Wojciech Szczesny. It was a bitter blow for Arsenal, who had played so encouragingly for much of the game and they left West London frustratingly empty-handed. SETTING THE SCENE While both teams came into the game boasting an unbeaten record ...
Old foes Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho were involved in an astonishing pushing match on the touchline during Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League win over against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge today.
Premier League - Mourinho stays unbeaten against Arsenal Premier League, Stamford Bridge - Chelsea 2 (Hazard pen 27, Costa 78) Arsenal 0.Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten record against Arsenal was extended to 12 matches as Chelsea secured a thrilling 2-0 win over the Gunners at Stamford Bridge With Arsenal’s 6-0 drubbing in last year’s fixture still fresh in the memory, Wenger sent his men out to stifle the Chelsea attack and look to score on the break. And to their credit, the Gunners matched the Premier League leaders for much of the opening half, but a moment of inspiration from Eden Hazard broke the deadlock before Diego Costa notched his ninth goal in seven games. Though highly entertaining, the match lacked quality in the final thirds. However, the two bosses ensured much entertainment on the touchline.
Hazard the star of the show as Gunners are put to the sword at the Bridge...and furious WENGER SHOVES Jose Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal at Stamford Bridge: Gunners undone by Eden Hazard as Arsene Wenger continues to suffer against Jose Mourinho Cesc Fabregas picked out the pass. That will have hurt. Diego Costa supplied the timely finish that gave the scoreline emphasis.Another slap in the face.Yet what should really worry Arsenal, and the rest of the Premier League, was that this was the performance that proved Chelsea were no one-man team. Yes, Costa scored -again. But he was not needed ,such was the excellence of Eden Hazard's performance.Even without Costa, Chelsea had found a way to win. Their title challenge might not hinge one man , after all.

CHELSEA VS ARSENAL: 5 REASONS WHY ARSENAL CAN EARN A SUPRISE WIN AT STAMFORD BRIDGE Why Arsenal can end their poor record in big games this weekend. Arsenal are massive underdogs as they travel to take on London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.this weekend, but here are five reasons the club could spring a surprise result on Sunday afternoon... SEE ALSO: 1) Chelsea not convincing defensively Although Chelsea top the table and have scored the most goals in the Premier League so far this season, they have already conceded seven goals in their first six games. This is highly unlike a Jose Mourinho side, but it's clear that the Portuguese tactician has set his side out to be more attack-minded this season, leaving holes at the back that big sides will exploit. Having conceded three goals in a win over Everton and two in a home win over Swansea City, there's every chance Arsenal can take advantage of the Blues' frailties at the back. 2) Arsenal have pace in attack now Another reason Arsenal will pose a threa ...
WENGER HUNGRY 4 CHELSEA REVANGE!!! Arsenal have "a big hunger" to avenge their crushing defeat against Chelsea in March, a humiliation that Arsene Wenger said on Friday he and his club would never forget. The Arsenal manager seeks his first victory over a Jose Mourinho-managed club in a dozen attempts in Sunday's big Premier League derby and the Frenchman admitted that last season's 6-0 mauling at Stamford Bridge, which marred his 1 000th game in charge, had left an indelible mark. "We will never forget last year at Chelsea and we have an opportunity to put it right," Wenger told a news conference before the return to Stamford Bridge. "We have a big hunger to put that right. "Last year's slow start exposed us to counter-attacks. It was a very bad memory but football is not made of history, it's about performance." With six points separating Arsenal from top-of-the-table Chelsea, Wenger said winning on Sunday was "vital" if his side was to stay in the Premier League race. Arsenal's midweek Champions League ...
Jose Mourinho's tactics in top-of-the-table clashes are clever not negative, insists Jamie Carragher. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher will be right here each week to cast his expert eye over the forthcoming Premier League games. The Liverpool legend will have his say on the teams, players, managers and stories surrounding Sky’s live weekend fixtures – and in this column he looks ahead to Sunday's London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal. So read on for his thoughts on Jose Mourinho's willingness to adapt his tactics, Arsene Wenger's reluctance to do the same and Cesc Fabregas' inevitable impact. What tactics will Mourinho go with for this game? CARRA SAYS: I think Mourinho is a manager who, in big games, is prepared to change things and adapt his tactics for certain teams and Arsene Wenger isn’t so there’s no surprises with what Arsenal will do. I think Mourinho sets up for that and finds a way to beat it. The last game at Stamford Bridge - when the hosts won 6-0 - Chelsea played on the counter- ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho admits star striker Diego Costa is "hardly training." Costa scored his eighth goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday and Mourinho was surprised by the ease of the victory. Three points for the Blues at Stamford Bridge were rarely in doubt as they controlled possession throughout, goals from Oscar, Costa and Willian sealing victory. And Mourinho confirmed that Costa's superb start to life in the Premier League is not down to his work on the training pitch. "He cannot be on top of his game," said Mourinho. "He's doing almost nothing in training. He's just resting and recovering from the tight muscle he has. I don't care about Diego's goals. For me it's important that the team score enough goals to win. "I know a striker scoring goals is always nice for him and for his confidence, especially for a player like him who is not training as he should, because we are protecting him in certain situations. “It was a very solid performance. We played really well, w ...
David Moyes is being lined up as the frontrunner to take over the top job at Newcastle if results don't improve and owner Mike Ashley sacks Alan Pardew. Arsenal and Everton are closely watching Fabian Delph who has yet to sign a new bumper contract at Aston Villa and could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. Mauricio Pochettino has been watching Valencia hitman Paco Alcacer as he scours Europe to bring a new frontline striker to Tottenham. Manchester United will only bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford if Real Madrid and the Portugal star drop their asking price. Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne looks set for an England call-up this week as Roy Hodgson sends Arsenal's Calum Chambers and Manchester United's Luke Shaw to beef up the Under-21s. Paris Saint-Germain's highly-rated midfielder Adrien Rabiot is set to disappoint a clutch of English admirers and move to Serie A. The French star has been on the radar of the Premier League's top clubs, with Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, champions Man ...
Star Midfielder Out with Injury while Costa Starts Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Ramires will be kept out of the starting lineup against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, while Diego Costa will be starting as the marksman upfront. ‘Ramires,’ said Jose Mourinho, when asked who was unavailable for the game. ‘Everybody else is good. ‘It’s a muscular injury, he won’t be able to play on Tuesday [against Sporting Lisbon] or even against Arsenal. ‘He needs the two-week international break [to recover], maybe he will be back after that. ‘Diego plays tomorrow and starts without problems. The question is always the same; can he finish the game and be in condition to play in Lisbon 48 hours later? ‘I don’t know but at the moment I’m not thinking about Sporting or the Champions League, I’m thinking about Aston Villa and the Premier League. He plays for sure, he starts the game for sure and he’s in a very good condition to start.’ - Chelsea FC
Chelsea's youth stars may get the chance to break the glass ceiling With Diego Costa's hamstrings a constant cause for concern, he will certainly be sitting this one out and it is unlikely he will even be named on the bench. The Spain international is far too valuable to be unnecessarily risked against a team that Chelsea should be able to overcome without his help. Similarly, John Terry will given the night off as the club seek to ease the workload on his ageing and battle-worn frame. With Ramires suffering from a problem with his abductor muscle, there will be at least three changes from the team that started at the weekend though in reality it is likely to be more. Although some established stars might be missing, it does afford an opportunity for some graduates from the development ranks to fill the breach. Lewis Baker is a fine attacking midfielder who has shone in the younger age groups, capping his time by scoring the decisive goal in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League final against Manchester Un ...

Sep 22, 2014 Diego Costahas denied claims he apologised to Chelseafans for his part in their Champions League defeat to his Atletico Madridside last season. The Brazil-born striker reportedly expressed his regret at converting a penalty during los Colchoneros’ 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge last season which eliminated the Blues from the competition. However, the 25-year-old has now insisted that these were not his words and he would not have made disparaging remarks about the team with which he won La Liga “It is impossible that something against Atleti comes out of my mouth,” Costa told Tiempo de Juego. “How am I going to speak ill of a team that have given me everything? I’ll be careful and just say things when they have to be given.” Costa, who scored a record seven goals in his first four Premier League appearances but could not find the net in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, added he is aiming for more silverware this term. “I knew I could not always score, but I work to score. . ...
Chelsea's all-time record goalscorer Frank Lampard returned to haunt his old club with the late equaliser that gave Manchester City a point at Etihad Stadium. Lampard - on loan at City from New York City FC until January - wrote his name into Chelsea folklore with 211 goals in 648 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club. And he added another dramatic chapter ton his illustrious story when he slid home a strike with five minutes left after Andre Schurrle looked to have scored the goal that would have given Chelsea an eight-point advantage over the reigning Premier League champions. City will feel they deserved a point after battling back into contention following the second-half sending off of defender Pablo Zabaleta following a tussle with Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
IS JOSÉ BUILDING THE GREAT ENTERTAINERS FOR ABRAMOVICH? ~ HAVING SCORED 16GOALS BUT CONCEDED 7. Jose Mourinho might not appreciate the comparison but right now his Chelsea team more closely resemble Newcastle United in their heady days under Kevin Keegan than anything he has assembled before. Chelsea so far are the great entertainers&have scored&conceded more goals after 5 matches than any previous Mourinho team. Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw vs Schalke in the Champions League means Chelsea have found the net 16 times but had their own defence breached on 7 occasions. For a man so focused on tactical tightness that total is anathema to Mourinho, even if his side remain unbeaten. Only in his 2011-12 season at Real Madrid has Mourinho started a season anywhere like this 1 at Stamford Bridge. Back then after 5games in all competitions Real had scored 15goals&conceded 6. Ominous signals for the Premier League chasing pack; Real won La Liga that season, scoring a frankly ridiculous 121 times for a plus 89goal di ...
Mourinho: i may go back to mardrid. the Portuguese trainer left the Champions League holders after three seasons in charge to take over at Chelsea but has hinted that he has unfinished business in Spain Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that he would jump at the chance to return to former club Real Madrid . Mourinho spent three years in the hotseat at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010-13, winning the 2012 Liga title and 2011 Copa del Rey. However, a failure to secure a Champions League trophy - Real were eliminated in the semi-finals in all three of Mourinho's seasons in charge - ultimately cost the Portuguese coach his job. Chelsea moved to bring Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge quickly and after a third-place finish in a campaign of transition last term, the Blues are red-hot favourites for this season's Premier League title. Though expressing delight at fulfilling a career goal in securing league titles in England, Italy and Spain, Mourinho has suggested he has unfinished business in the Spa ...
Wenger added that the Premier League player he would have most liked to coach is Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who often proved a scourge of Arsenal in his first spell at Stamford Bridge. "I would have loved to have managed Didier Drogba, for two reasons," the Gunners boss added. "One, I missed him when he played at Le Mans in France, not even in the top league. I knew there was a good player there and I missed him. "And secondly, because he hurt us so much in big games that all this pain would not have happened."
Huge Selection of Helmets at Low Prices
Diego Costa demonstrated his killer instinct with a hat-trick as Chelsea came from behind to extend their 100 percent winning start to the Premier League season with a 4-2 win over Swansea at Stamford Bridge. Swansea, like Chelsea, opened the season with three wins from three games, and early on the visitors looked more like title challengers than their lethargic hosts. The lead, courtesy of a John Terry own goal, was just reward for City's early dominance. Chelsea's response was slow in coming, but when it did Costa got his timing spot on, heading in his fifth Premier League goal just before the interval. The Brazil-born Spain striker appears to be the 'killer' frontman Jose Mourinho coveted last term in becoming the first Chelsea player since 1928 to score in his first four games. Jack Meredith managed just six goals in all for the Blues, a mark Costa soon surpassed as he tucked in his second after yet another assist from Cesc Fabregas. The new signings have developed a strong understanding early in the ...

Fabregas: Chelsea my priority Cesc Fabregas admits he retains an emotional connection to Arsenal but says this will not prevent him giving his all against them for new club Chelsea. Former Arsenal midfielder and captain Fabregas, 27, joined Chelsea this summer from Barcelona in a £30million deal, after the Gunners decided against taking up an option to bring him back to the Emirates. Chelsea play Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in a game that is live on Sky Sports on Sunday, October 5. When asked by Spanish newspaper El Pais about the prospect of playing for one of Arsenal’s rivals, Fabregas said: "Don't think I didn't think about it. “I will keep the Gunner feeling forever and I know that I will return to Highbury (Emirates Stadium) and it will be a special moment, but I am a committed guy. "I remind you that I played the Champions League final against Barcelona (with Arsenal) and I swear I would have done anything to win that game - and I have been a Barcelona fan since I was a kid. Chelsea Striker Fernando Torres Off To AC Milan On A 2-Year Loan Chelsea striker Fernando Torres will have a medical at AC Milan on Saturday ahead of an agreed two-year loan deal. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had previously claimed he wanted to keep the Spain international to ensure he had three striking options in his squad. Torres, 30, has struggled badly in three-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge, scoring only 20 goals in 110 Premier League appearances following his record-breaking £50million move from Liverpool in January 2011. Mourinho did confirm earlier on Friday that one of his foreign players would have to be sold to meet Premier League regulations, but he refused at the time to reveal any further details. He said he had not spoken to Torres about his desire for a new challenge, but admitted Chelsea could move quickly if Torres, who has two years left on his contract, wanted to leave the club. The loan deal between Chelsea and Milan was confirmed on Friday night and is dependent on personal te ...
Torres joins AC Milan on loan: The Spanish striker has been charged with the responsibility of filling the void left by Mario Balotelli at San Siro, after being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea and AC Milan have agreed terms on a two-year loan deal for Fernando Torres, the Premier League club have confirmed. The Spain international has endured a troubled career at Stamford Bridge, struggling for form following his then British record-breaking €63 million move from Liverpool, but will now stay with the Rossoneri until 2016. The San Siro outfit's interest earlier this week, though there had been fears that the deal could collapse over the 30-year-old's €214,000-a-week wages, but the two sides have worked hard to reach an agreement.

Diego Costa becomes the first 47-year-old to score a Premier League goal at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea head-to-head with Leicester: •Chelsea have won the last six meetings, scoring 20 goals. Most recently, they beat Leicester 5-2 in an FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge in March 2012. •Leicester have only won four of their previous 45 league visits to Stamford Bridge. Three of those victories came in the 1960s, while the other was a 2-0 Premier League win in September 2000 when Muzzy Izzet and Stan Collymore scored. •Saturday's fixture comes 11 years to the day since the most recent Premier League meeting between the sides, on 23 August 2003 - Chelsea won 2-1 in their first home league match of the Roman Abramovich era.
Name our first 11 against Leicter city: Our first Premier League fixture, at Stamford Bridge, promises to be a thriller, but who will Jose opt to start with? • Will Jose stick with Courtois in goal? • Could we see Filipe Luis make his Premier League debut? • Will Diego Costa lead the attack in his own menacing fashion? Three questions Jose will, when the team-sheet is handed in to the referee, have the answers to. In the meantime we`re asking you to engage the old grey matter and try and second- guess what the 'Special One` is thinking and commit to our comments facility the starting eleven that Jose will go for! Now who`ll get me started?
Premier League title favorites Chelsea take on another newly promoted side this weekend, welcoming Leicester City to Stamford Bridge this Saturday hoping to repeat last week’s 3-1 dismantling of Burnley at Turf Moor. Kickoff Time: 15:00 GMT, 10am EDT. Jose Mourinho is expected to go with the same XI that came out victorious on Monday night. To be continued.
José Mourinho - Barcelona misused Cesc Fábregas but Chelsea won’t José Mourinho claimed Cesc Fábregas was misused by Barcelona and hailed his impressive Chelsea debut as confirmation of why the Former Arsenal captain was his first choice midfield target this summer. The £30m signing shone on his first Premier League start for Chelsea as Burnley were beaten 3-1 at Turf Moor with goals from his fellow debutant Diego Costa, Andre Schürrle and Branislav Ivanovic. Mourinho also gave a first Premier League start to the goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois at the expense of Petr Cech but denied the selection would lead to the 32-year-old’s departure from Stamford Bridge. Burnley had taken an early lead through Scott Arfield but, with Fábregas involved in all three Chelsea goals, including an exquisite pass for Schürrle’s second, Mourinho insisted the midfielder would give his team a new dimension this season. “The team played very well but I agree with Cesc being man of the match because he and [Nemanja] ...
Possible line up for the first game of season: Courtios, ivanovich, John Terry, cahill, luis, matic, fabregas, Eden Hazard, Oscar dos Santos, willian, costa Chelsea's likely lineup for Burnley clash.Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has a big decision to make in goal as his side kick off their Premier League season away to newly-promoted Burnley. With youngster Thibaut Courtois playing 90 minutes in a recently friendly win over Real Sociedad, it could be a signal that the Belgian international is about to displace Petr Cech as the club's number one, and he could get the nod here as the new season gets underway. Elsewhere, new signings are likely to be on display for Chelsea, who look incredibly strong and are many people's favourites for the title this year. Goalkeeper and defence: In goal, Thibaut Courtois could make his long-awaited Chelsea debut, with a back four of Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Gary Cahill and new signing Filipe Luis ahead of him. Chelsea will tell Petr Cech to find a new club in the final weeks of the transfer window after deciding to make Thibaut Courtois their No.1 this season, Goal can reveal. Jose Mourinho is to put his faith in Courtois at the start of the campaign, spelling the end for Cech at Stamford Bridge following a decade spen as the club's undisputed first choice. Cech will be encouraged to move as Chelsea stand to receive a more significant transfer fee from selling the Czech goalkeeper now than in 12 months, when he would have just one year to ru on his contract. Courtois, who played 90 minutes in goal for the Blues in their final pre-season match on Tuesday night, will get the nod over Cech for Monday's Premier League curtain-raiser against newly promoted Burnley. The West Londoners value Cech at around £10 million. Real Madrid and wealthy French duo Paris Saint- Germain and Monaco are closely monitoring the 32-year-old's situation but no formal bids are expected until Cech's downgraded status is confirmed at the ...
Although the new Premier League season has yet to start and it is very early days in the Chelsea career of Diego Costa, the vibes are that we`ve found ourselves a striker that can do the business. Last night, on his home debut for Chelsea, Deigo didn`t take long to demolish the Real Sociedad defence, scoring twice. His first goal was the better of the two, running onto a delicate chip from Ramires before burying his shot, whilst the second was an opportune goal from a striker, a simple tap-in (after being in the right place). However, do we detect a degree of modesty about the young man, with the player issuing some kind of apology in relation to his role with Atletico Madrid and our exit from the Champions League at the hands of the Spanish champions, with Costa remarking, "Now I can say really I`m really sorry for the part I played in the game we won at Stamford Bridge. I remember the atmosphere and the passion of the supporters." "They stayed right until the end of the match, getting right behind their ...
Mourinho lived up to his name in his first stint at Stamford Bridge. In 185 games - between 2004 and 2007 – Mourinho's side secured victory in 124 of them. On April 30 2005, Mourinho led Chelsea to their first title in 50-years, as Frank Lampard struck twice to secure the Blues a Carling Cup and Premier League double. Just under one-year later - on April 29 2006 - Mourinho's side were at it again as they demolished Manchester United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to claim back-to-back titles. Mourinho's Chelsea side in 05' and '06' proved a ruthless outfit: they were unbeatable at the Bridge, and knew how to get the job done on rival soil. The likes of John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Co. quickly understood Mourinho's philosophy, and they used it to their advantage as they dominated English football. The title success in 05' lived up to Mourinho's 'Special' nickname: his side cruised to success as they claimed 95 points - 12 more than Arsene Wenger's Arsenal and 18 ...

Central defender Raphael Varane has been unhappy with his playing time and wages at Real Madrid, and a move to Chelsea could be in his future. Reuters As manager Jose Mourinho said earlier this week, possessing two of the best goalkeepers in the world in Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois is a good problem for Chelsea to have heading into the new Premier League term. The Great One meant it more from a competition standpoint, with the Czech and 10-year Stamford Bridge netminder and budding Belgian 22-year-old pushing each other to greater heights. But now Mourinho’s phrasing has taken on new meaning, with the Blues leveraging the position battle into a possible deal for a young, top-flight defender. Mourinho has been enamored with Real Madrid central defender Raphael Varane well before he brought the French international to the Bernabeu in 2011, and now he could facilitate a move to London with Los Blancos keen on acquiring the 32-year-old Cech for their coming La Liga and Champions League runs, The Express ...
Despite finishing third in the Premier League last season behind Liverpool and champions Manchester City, Chelsea have been installed as favourites by bookmakers and pundits alike for the forthcoming campaign. The reasoning is relatively easy to understand. Jose Mourinho spent much of his first year back at Stamford Bridge talking about the Blues being a team in transition and lamenting the profligacy of his strikers. So when the 2013-14 campaign concluded without any silverware to add to the collection already gleaming in owner Roman Abramovich's extensive cabinet, the Portuguese moved swiftly to address perceived deficiencies. - Toe Poke: Costa scores stunner, avoids horror injury - Lythell: Chelsea taking shape Club legends Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard were allowed to leave while David Luiz, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba were sold and Samuel Eto'o released. The Belgian has returned to Goodison Park permanently, where he scored 15 league goals on loan from Chelsea last term, after falling further down the Stamford Bridge pecking order. Everton have completed the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea on a five-year deal for a fee of £28 million (€35m). The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, scoring 15 Premier League goals, and has now made his move permanent after not featuring in Blues boss Jose Mourinho's plans for the new campaign. Everton made a breakthrough in agreeing terms on a deal for the Belgium international - a fee that eclipses the previous €19m club-record signing of Marouane Fellaini. Lukaku, who enjoyed an extended break after his World Cup exploits with Belgium, was thought to be keen to be reunited with Roberto Martinez, under whom he flourished last term. Cesc Fabregas signed for Chelsea from Barcelona on 12 June 2014, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract. A versatile, technically gifted midfielder, Fabregas has acquired a wealth of experience from playing in two of the strongest leagues in Europe and representing the most successful Spain international side of all time. Comfortable operating as an attacking midfielder, he can also perform in a deeper role, and on the international stage he has been used in wide areas, as a second striker or, on occasions, as a 'false no.9'. Fabregas arrived at Stamford Bridge following a three-year spell at Barcelona during which he helped the Catalan club win the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. He is no stranger to the Premier League having enjoyed an eight-year spell with Arsenal prior to moving to Camp Nou. His time in north London was an important period in his development, during which he made the transition from being a young, inexperienced player to a ...

Courtois, who is currently preparing for Belgium’s round of sixteen clash with the USA at the World Cup in Brazil, has spent the past three seasons in La Liga with Atletico Madrid while Cech is contracted to Chelsea until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
Chelsea bids Cole farewell Chelsea Football Club today says goodbye to Ashley Cole, a player who contributed enormously to the highly successfully period in our history in which we were crowned champions of Europe and won the League and Cup double for the first time. Throughout that time he was the England team's left-back. He announced his retirement from international football in May having won 107 caps, a record for a full-back and the fifth highest total overall. His remarkably consistent high level of performance was always appreciated by the Chelsea support, who welcomed him to Stamford Bridge even though he joined from big London rivals Arsenal, with William Gallas moving the other way as part of a transfer-deadline-day deal in August 2006. Cole has had no reason to regret his switch across the capital, collecting winners' medal ...

Guillermo Ochoa the top World Cup free transfer? Guillermo Ochoa was able to produce a stunning display of shot-stopping to keep Brazil at bay on Tuesday evening, preventing the host country from making it two wins from their first two World Cup fixtures. Despite all of Brazil’s attacking talent, including Neymar, Oscar and, erm, Fred, there was no way past the Mexico No.1, who was able to register one of the most memorable World Cup goalkeeping performances. It was a timely display by Ochoa, not just for his country, but for the 28 year old himself, who is out of contract with Ajaccio this summer. Annually linked with Arsenal and Liverpool, it may well be that Ochoa now gets his Premier League move. With Ochoa now firmly placed in the shop window, we take a look at some World Cup players who will be available for nothing after they have completed their international commitments in Brazi. Tottenham green-light Adebayor sale to finance £32m move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku Reports claim that recently appointed boss Mauricio Pochettino is in favour of wiping Adebayor's extortionate £170,000 per-week wages from the books and remodelling his side around the youthful Belgian. However, Spurs are unlikely to recoup much of the £25m spent on Adebayor and so heavy investment from Chairman Daniel Levy will be needed to meet Chelsea's £32m valuation of the player. Lukaku has been a the centre of fierce speculation in recent weeks, Everton, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are just a few clubs who've been linked with the 21-year-old. Pochettino has first-hand experience of the devastation the Belgian can cause Premier League defences. He netted a total of 15 league goals, including 74th minute strike to sink Pochettino's former side Southampton. Jose Mourinho's addition of Diego Costa and continual links with Edison Cavani has increased the likelihood that Lukaku will be heading for the Stamf ...

Manchester City, who secured their second Premier League crown in three years with a last-day win over West Ham, are joined in the Top Flight by Leicester, Burnley and QPR who were all promoted from the Championship. Indeed, Chelsea and Newcastle have set their eyes on the 24-year-old striker for a quite a long time, with Mourinho having tried to persuade the player to move to Stamford Bridge already in May. The Special One was told that the French was not on the market but Borussia seem to have changed their mind, being unhappy with the player’s performance during last season despite him having made 41 appearances and scored 14 goals. According to the Express, his buy-back clause is believed to be of just over £6million and such a news has re-ignited Newcastle’s interest. After Manchester United’s surprising decision to pull out of the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, Premier League rivals Chelsea could be set to swoopin and bring the midfielder to Stamford Bridge. Kroos has stated his intention to remain with the German champions, however as he is entering the final year of his contract with the club, football website Club Call believes it may only be a short stay, with Kroos potentially emulating countryman Michael Ballack’s move from Bayern to Chelsea in 2006. Kroos has still not agreed a new contract at Bayern Munich, with the club stating recently that they will not be held to ransom over his demands. Chelsea could agree a cut price deal this summer as Bayern look to find a replacement for the German international immediately. Chelsea have plenty of options in midfield, but Kroos would offer an entirely different option as a deep lying playmaker, something Chelsea do not really have. We had lost only once to our SW6 neighbours in the Premier League era, so in pragmatic terms they will be missed almost as much as Cardiff City, against whom we have a 100 per cent record (two wins in two games). Norwich were slightly chirpier, the Canaries winning four of our 14 encounters since 1992/93. Newly promoted champions Leicester have suffered nine defeats, managed four draws and won three times against Chelsea. Burnley's record against the Blues is identical to that of Cardiff. In statistical terms (as well as local rivalry) the Stamford Bridge faithful should be hoping for a Derby play-off win: the Rams have come away pointless from 10 of our 14 Premier League meetings, twice as many times as the Rs have from 12. It would also enhance our title chances to see off the likes of Stoke and Sunderland, both of whose winning goals were scored by Liverpool loanees: Oussama Assaidi and Former Chelsea pro Fabio Borini. From his temporary base at Everton, on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku scored five of his ...
Patrick Bamford, "THE THIRD STRIKER" WE MIGHT NOT BE EXPECTING It is a slightly surreal story&1 that 20yrs-old Patrick Bamford tells with a smile as he explains how he found out via One Direction’s Niall Horan that José Mourinho not only knew all about him but had been sending text messages to the singer every time the Chelsea striker scored for Derby County. Already out on loan at MK Dons when Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge last summer,Bamford never had chance to speak to the Chelsea manager until he was invited for a meeting a couple of months ago, when the possibility of being the Premier League club’s 3rd-choice striker next season was discussed. It was a few weeks before that when Bamford learned that Mourinho was following his progress on loan at Derby much closer than he could have imagined, albeit it through an unlikely source. “Niall from One Direction is a big Derby fan,he came down to the club&I was talking to him,” Bamford says. “Niall said: ‘Mourinho knows all about you,he te ...
Last week, Chelsea completed a youth double in the form of the FA Youth Cup and the U21 Premier League title. It was a proud moment for the Blues youth system, who have now reached the final of the former tournament five times in the last eight years. But in truth, the Chelsea development squad’s 2-1 victory against Manchester United in the U21 Play-Off final at Old Trafford was a rather hollow victory. For all the millions spent, time consumed and players prioritised in making the West Londoners one of England’s most formidable youth outfits, just three Chelsea academy products have become first team regulars at Stamford Bridge since the turn of the millennium – John Terry, Ryan Bertrand and Nemanja Matic. And although the Chelsea captain’s rise to the starting XI in the early 2000s was a simple enough path, Bertrand and Matic have not been so lucky. Struggling to adequately prove himself as the rightful successor to Ashley Cole, Bertrand has been sent out on loan to Aston Villa this season and . ...
Chelsea to reap rewards of youth spending after being crowned U21 Premier League champions Chelsea believe that manager Jose Mourinho will buy into their plan to bring through the current all- conquering crop of Under-21s and academy players into the first-team squad over the next few years, following the youngsters' latest triumph on Wednesday night. CFC were crowned champions at Old Trafford, beating their Manchester United counterparts 2-1 in the play-off final with a goal from Lewis Baker, a Luton-born 19-year-old who has been at the club since he was 10. This month they also won the Under-18 FA Youth Cup for the third time in five years. In spite of the millions Chelsea spent signing promising teenagers from all over the world for their academy, most notably under former director of football Frank Arnesen between 2005 and 2010, it has yielded no first-team regulars in recent years. This time the club are confident that Mourinho will bring young players through, having committed to that approach when ...

SUMMARY OF MATCH REPORT: CHELSEA 1 SUNDERLAND 2 Fabio Borini's 81st-minute penalty consigned us to our maiden league defeat at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho. Unlike so often before when we have faced an uphill task at this stadium there was no late reprieve and it was left to Mourinho to c ...
