Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised Alexis Sanchez’ "amazing" quality after the Chilean inspired Arsenal to a 3-0 victory over Stoke City on Sunday. Alexis set up the opening goal for Laurent Koscielny on six minutes before striking twice himself to take his goal tally to 19 in all competitions and seal a deserved win for Arsene Wenger's men. With 13 goals and seven assists, the Chilean has now been directly involved in over half of Arsenal's 37 Premier League goals this season and Oxlade-Chamberlain has no doubts about his team-mate's talent. "Alexis is amazing. He shows it week in week out and that's the most important thing for top players to do," Oxlade-Chamberlain told Sky Sports. "It's about consistency and it's not good enough to just be good one week, everyone wants to see you being great every week. "Alexis has done that all the way through the season. He was brilliant again today with two good goals and obviously he set Laurent's goal up as well. Hopefully it continues for him because he's ha ...
Jose Mourinho has "planted a seed" and put pressure on referees after claiming there is a clear campaign against Chelsea, says Gary Neville. Mourinho was left incensed when referee Anthony Taylor failed to award a penalty for a 55th-minute trip by Matt Targett on Cesc Fabregas and instead booked the Spain international for diving. Mourinho blamed the Fabregas booking on recent accusations of diving made against Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic, who was named by Sam Allardyce in the wake of West Ham's Boxing Day defeat at Stamford Bridge. Neville told Sky Sports he believes Mourinho knows there is no campaign against Chelsea from referees, but insists he is planting a seed to put referees under pressure in the future. "He has planted a seed for the rest of the season," Neville said. "He'll probably take a fine for that. "What Mourinho has done today has said he's drawing a line in the sand and said 'I'm not accepting this any more', letting the referees know this is unacceptable for the rest of the seaso ...

SIGGY OUTLINES SIMILARITIES BETWEEN BONY AND KANE Gylfi Sigurdsson has outlined the similarities between his Swansea City teammate Wilfried Bony and Tottenham Hotspur youngster Harry Kane. Both Bony and Kane are strikers and have been in impressive form in recent weeks in the Premier League. While 26-year-old Ivory Coast international striker Bony scored seven goals and created 17 chances in 15 Premier League appearances, Kane has scored twice and created six chances in 11 league matches. Although the stats are firmly in the Swansea striker’s favour, one needs to consider that Kane has only just started to get some decent playing time and is still 21 years of age. Sigurdsson, who joined Swansea from Tottenham in the summer Transfer Window, has underlined the similarities between the two strikers. “They are similar in the sense that they are players who can score goals from nothing," Sky Sports quotes the Iceland international as saying. ”They have a wonderful finish. “Bony is probably physically s ...
Jamie Carragher insists Steven Gerrard remains a vital member of the Liverpool team but must continue to be rested if they are to get the best from him this season. The 34-year-old was named on the bench by Brendan Rodgers for the clash with Stoke on the 16th anniversary of his Liverpool debut, with the Liverpool boss later explaining that he can’t use his captain in every game. The manager was vindicated after Gerrard, who came on as a 75th minute substitute, helped his team secure a 1-0 victory to halt a run of three successive Premier League defeats and Carragher believes the Englishman, who has been offered a new deal at Anfield, is a vital part of the team and can continue to play his part from the bench. “There’s going to be times when Gerrard has to come off the bench,” said the Sky Sports pundit. “It was 0-0 when he came on and he wasn’t involved in the goal but he can make an impact from the bench. The manager can’t expect a player of that age, no matter his quality or what he’s d ...
London: Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini praised his side`s all-round display after they overcame a disallowed penalty appeal and a red card shown to Eliaquim Mangala to win 3-0 away to Southampton on Sunday. Victory saw reigning Premier League champions City climb above Southampton into second place and move to within six points of leaders Chelsea. “We beat a very good team,” Pellegrini told Sky Sports. “They were second in the table and deserved that position.” Yaya Toure opened the scoring in the 51st minute at St Mary`s Stadium before centre-back Mangala was sent off for a second bookable offence. Goals in the final 10 minutes from substitute Frank Lampard and Gael Clichy secured victory for the visitors. Despite an ultimately convincing scoreline, some of the shine of victory was removed for City after a late injury to Vincent Kompany meant they finished the ...

FRAN -Lovenkrands set to retire Sky Sports understands former Newcastle, Rangers and Birmingham star Peter Lovenkrands is set to announce his retirement after a glittering 16-year career in football. Last Updated: 19/11/14 at 08:23 Post Comment Lovenkrands has spent the last two years at Birmingham City before leaving the club this summer. The 34-year-old, who was linked with several clubs after leaving Birmingham, has decided to hang up his boots and pursue other interests. Lovenkrands started his career in his homeland with Akademisk Boldklub before making the move to Rangers in 2000. The versatile forward enjoyed a successful six-year spell at Rangers, helping them win two Scottish Premier League titles and one Scottish Cup in which he scored the two goals in the final, including a last-minute winning goal against Old Firm rivals Celtic. Lovenkrands also picked up three Scottish League winners medals during his trophy-laden spell in Scotland. The Dane also enjoyed success on the European front with Ran ...
The Frenchman has admitted his side face more immediate problems than chasing down the Premier League leaders Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that he has "different worries" than being concerned about Chelsea's progress at the top of the table. After the midweek draw with Anderlecht, the Gunners were again guilty of throwing away points against Swansea City on Sunday as goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bafetimbi Gomis secured a 2-1 win for the hosts at the Liberty Stadium. The result leaves Arsenal 12 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea although Wenger is more concerned with winning games than worrying about Chelsea and their lead at the top. He told Sky Sports: "At the moment we have different worries than that. We just lost a game that we feel we shouldn't have lost. We have to live in a realistic world, in football you have to win the games you can win and today was one. If you want to challenge for the Premier League, you have to be a bit more realistic than we were today." Quizzed over ...
Gary Neville has expressed his belief that Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta is the best defender in the Premier League. The Blues have the second best defensive record in the league this season as they have conceded 10 goals in their 10 matches, and Neville feels that the Spaniard's consistency separates him from his teammates at Stamford Bridge. "I'd say, for consistency of performances, it would be one of the Chelsea lads and I'd probably say Azpilicueta," Neville told Sky Sports News . "For technical defending, not making a mistake, not being in the wrong position, not getting caught out... I don't see him making a mistake. And I have to say the Chelsea defenders aren't far behind him; Gary Cahill, John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic . "But Azpilicueta, when I watch him, he's as near to perfect as possible when it comes to defending; he's immaculate." The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in 2012 from Marseille.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Harry Kane deserves to start in the Premier League for Tottenham.
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has confirmed winger Angel Di Maria has trained this week and will be fit to face Chelsea on Super Sunday. The Argentinian limped off in Monday's 2-2 Premier League draw at West Brom casting doubt on his availability for the visit of Jose Mourinho's table-topping side. But Van Gaal revealed on Friday that the club's record-signing has been training since Thursday in preparation for the clash at Old Trafford this weekend. No other players are returning from injury for United but midfielder Michael Carrick will play for the reserves against his former club West Ham on Friday evening after five months out. Van Gaal has also refused to rule out signing Victor Valdes, who is currently training with United. "Manchester United always has its eyes open," said the Dutchman. Watch Manchester United v Chelsea live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 3.30pm on Sunday.
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is in a bullish mood ahead of Monday's trip to face West Brom in front of the Sky Sports cameras. Van Gaal has endured an indifferent start to his reign at Old Trafford but United have now climbed to fourth in the Premier League table with 2-1 victories over West Ham and Everton. The Dutchman remains confident in his ability to instil a winning philosophy, although he wants a more rounded performance against West Brom.

Pardew sees positives in loss Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew admitted that a 2-0 defeat was tough to take after an encouraging performance against Manchester City. Goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero secured victory for the Premier League champions at St James' Park, but it was an evenly contested encounter. While Newcastle did not carve out many good chances, they put City under pressure at times and there were good displays from summer signings Daryl Janmaat, Jack Colback, Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere. Rolando Aarons and Ayoze Perez also impressed as substitutes and Pardew was disappointed not to take anything from the match, but had plenty of reasons to be positive. He told Sky Sports: "It was frustrating for us because in the second half we really pushed on up and put some younger players on, who were a bit naive at times but who threatened with their pace. We just couldn't get that equaliser. "I feel that if we could have got that then we could have gone on to win it because we looked li ...
Daniel Sturridge feels Liverpool will be better this season, despite the departure of his prolific strike partner Luis Suarez. Suarez starred for Liverpool last term, scoring a stunning 31 goals in 33 Premier League appearances as the Anfield giants came close to winning their first title for 24 years. The Uruguay forward moved to Barcelona for a reported fee of £75million last month, though, and his absence means Sturridge - who himself scored 21 top-flight goals last season - will be tasked to lead the Liverpool line in 2014-15. Brendan Rodgers has wasted little time in spending the Suarez money, and more, as he aims to bolster his squad, with the likes of Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Lazar Markovic headlining their close-season arrivals. And Sturridge - scorer of the late winner in their 2-1 win over Southampton on Sunday - feels Liverpool's squad is more well-rounded this season. When asked if this year's group of players were stronger, Sturridge told Sky Sports: "I think so. With no disrespect to ...

Southampton have started their search for a new manager following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham. Pochettino secured a five-year contact at White Hart Lane on Tuesday after resigning at the Saints who he steered to their highest-ever Premier League finish of eighth place last season. Although there has not been any official announcement, Sky Sports Reporter Roger Clarke said the job of searching for a new man at the St Mary's helm was under way. On the early runners, Clarke said: "The early favourite is Murat Yakin who was at Basel. He won a couple of league titles and was the manager when they beat Chelsea in the Champions League last November. He's also Swiss so may be an option for the Swiss owners. "There's also Ronald Koeman who's in charge at Feyenoord. There's also Michael Laudrup who won the League Cup at Swansea and Gus Poyet, although there are reports that Sunderland would resist any approach." "We will be looking for a manager that shares our values, our principles and our p ...

Via SAFC NOW Amazing what goes on behind the scenes! Quinn: I missed out on Van Gaal. One of Niall Quinn’s greatest feats as Sunderland chairman was recruiting Martin O’Neill but he admitted yesterday an audacious bid to prise Louis Van Gaal to Wearside wasn’t so fruitful. It was the summer of 2009 and the Black Cats were still reeling from the fallout of Roy Keane’s mid-season exit. Whilst Ricky Spragia had finished Keane’s job by of keeping Sunderland in the Premier League, a new figurehead was needed and Quinn’s mind wandered towards the Lowlands. “I was cheeky enough before appointing Steve Bruce to ring up Van Gaal,” explained Quinn, these days a pundit for Sky Sports and on duty tomorrow for Ireland’s friendly against Turkey. “He was on a sabbatical at the time. I think his wife was on my side because he was home a lot and she encouraged me to keep ringing him! It was a brave call for us to make to try to lure someone like that. The Spaniard, who left North London for a Barcelona return in 2011, will prioritise his former club if he is to be sold this summer, reported by Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail: Sources close to Fabregas maintain his preferred destination should he return to the Premier League is the Emirates Stadium. Manchester United have been linked with a fresh move for Fabregas following the club's foiled attempt to sign him last summer. The Spaniard is also likely to attract Manchester City given he meets home-grown quota regulations. Nick Sutton of BBC Radio 4 reported the Sun's back page, which reinforces the story: Arsenal are known to have first option on the player that could cost in the region of £35 million, per John Cross of the Mirror. Schurrle's CL final regret. Chelsea's Andre Schurrle admits he will be full of regret when he watches Saturday's Champions League final in Lisbon. Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will lock horns in a battle to be crowned European kings, with the game live on Sky Sports 1HD. Diego Simeone's La Liga champions booked their place in the final after overcoming Jose Mourinho's Chelsea 3-1 over two legs, with all the goals coming in the Stamford Bridge leg after a goalless draw in Spain. Chelsea's campaign unravelled after the defeat to Atletico, as Norwich held on for a 0-0 draw in the following game to put a huge dent in the Blues' Premier League title bid. Schurrle, who scored in the final-day win at Cardiff City to ensure they at least finished on a high note, has promised Chelsea will 'come back stronger next season'. But he admits he will be wondering what could have been when he watches the European showpiece on Saturday. Schurrle told the Daily Star: "We're disappointed because we didn't w ...
English eyes on Ya Konan A number of Premier League clubs are closely monitoring Hannover striker Didier Ya Konan, Sky Sports understands. Last Updated: 14/05/14 at 10:51 Post Comment Didier Ya Konan: Will be at the World Cup finals this summer with the Ivory Coas The 29-year-old has spent the past five seasons in Germany and has contributed a steady stream of goals. As a powerful, stocky forward, he is considered to boast all of the attributes required to be a success in England. Interest in his services is mounting ahead of the Transfer Window reopening, and early offers could be tabled. Hannover will endeavour to curb the speculation regarding his future by offering him a new contract, but know they face a fight to secure his services. They will also be aware that Ya Konan's involvement at this summer's World Cup with the Ivory Coast will present him with a global shop window in which to display his talents. It is already being reported that the former Rosenborg man is keen on testing himself in the Pr ...
Sky Sports News 1pm - Tim Sherwood sacked as manager of Tottenham Hotspur. Sherwood who has the highest winning percentage of any Spurs manager in the Premier League era will surely feel hard done by as he's done such a great job. 1.30pm - Tim Sherwood has been installed as 4/11 favourite for the Brighton job. And here's me thinking he'd get the Real Madrid job. Seeing as he's so good. According to Sky Sports.
Peter Odemwingie has been talking about his experience at West Brom, ahead of tomorrow's Premier League return to The Hawthorns with Stoke City. The Nigeria forward memorably drove to Loftus Road to try and engineer a transfer to QPR on deadline day in January 2013. He told the Daily Express that then Albion boss Steve Clarke was aware of what was happening: Steve Clarke said in an interview there was a point where he thought the deal was done. But nobody picked up on that, they just picked up on seeing me at Loftus Road. Source: Sky Sports
Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville had little sympathy for Liverpool as they squandered a three goal lead in the final 11 minutes at Crystal Palace on Monday night to all but end their Premier League title dreams.
RODGERS CONCEDES DEFEAT! Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool's implosion at Crystal Palace has handed Manchester City the Premier League title. The Reds led 3-0 before conceding three times in nine minutes at Selhurst Park to sit just a point clear of City who have two games in hand. Rodgers told Sky Sports: "Yes, I think we needed to win tonight to keep the pressure on. "Manchester City, they have got two home games now, two tough games, but we needed to win it. "I think Manchester City will go on and win their two games and they will be champions." City play Aston Villa on Wednesday night before hosting West Ham on Sunday, while the Reds take on Newcastle at Anfield.
TO LIVERPOOL FANS Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has warned fans and ex-teammates not to be so precious over Chelsea's tactics on Sunday. The Blues became the first side to shut out Brendan Rodgers side in the Premier League since the beginning of November, but were accused of adopting a negative style in a bid to quell their free-scoring hosts. Carragher argued his former club have deployed similar tactics in the past and - instead of bemoaning the opposition's approach - the Reds should focus on ways to break down a sturdy backline. "I've done it playing for Liverpool," Carragher told Sky Sports. "I remember going to Barcelona in 2001 in the UEFA Cup and we got a 0-0. We did exactly the same as what Chelsea did yesterday, we went there for our clean sheet. Johan Cruyff said after the game we were a disgrace to football. "Let's not forget that in the seventies and eighties when Liverpool went away they'd go there and do a job to try and get a 0-0. At times they'd play it back to Ray Clemence and slow t ...
Ramsey, on his first Premier League start since returning from injury, opened the scoring after 31 minutes when he fired past Steve Harper, before Podolski added a second with an emphatic finish just before the break. The Germany international added his second of the afternoon - his fourth in two games - early on in the second half as Arsenal cruised to the three points at the KC Stadium. Hull did hit the woodwork through Jake Livermore in the opening 45 minutes, but Wenger was satisfied with how his side controlled the game and avoided some early scares to seal the win. "We kept a clean sheet, we scored three goals and overall, I believe that performance was good," he told Sky Sports. "We were tested in the first half from a very physical game. We responded with great movement and scored. "In the second half, we controlled and it was easier and overall, it's a convincing win. "We looked dangerous to score goals again. We had a few away games where we looked toothless and to think our combination game and ...

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "We will attack. I always try to put in the head of my players that we will attack in every game but then we have to be careful about the counter. "To defend 1-1 would be a mistake, Manchester United is the best team in the Premier League away from home and they have the quality to score. We have to attack - score one, two or as much as possible."
Jamie Redknapp believes Jose Mourinho should take more than his fair share of the responsibility for Chelsea's recent struggles. It was only a matter of weeks ago, on the back of a 14-game unbeaten run that included wins over Liverpool and Manchester City, that Chelsea were being talked of as Premier League champions-elect. Mourinho consistently downplayed his side's chances, though, and his prophecy has been fulfilled in recent weeks with the Blues losing to Aston Villa and Crystal Palace either side of their thumping win over Arsenal. The West Londoners also went down 3-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie in midweek but, rather than blaming his forwards, Redknapp believes Mourinho should take some of the responsibility himself. He told Sky Sports: "Jose Mourinho has spent a lot of time this season pointing the finger at his forwards, rather than taking responsibility for Chelsea's results. "That's increased in recent weeks with three defeats in their last four ...
Manchester United supporters have been loyal and stoic this season, but this derby disaster was the final straw for some fans and understandably so. Some abused Sir Alex Ferguson in the directors’ box for his choice of Moyes as his successor, others were restrained by stewards as they verbally insulted Moyes himself. Judging by these scenes, a full-scale revolt is just around the corner should results continue to nosedive. At the end of the game, the sorry picture was completed by a line of stewards protecting ‘The Chosen One’ banner depicting Moyes at the Stretford End in case United supporters chose to tear it down. At any other Premier League club Moyes would have been sacked months ago for delivering a string of performances that have fallen, unacceptably, below expectations, “Five more years, five more years” came the chant from the gloating 3,000 Manchester City supporters in the away end here. Dreadful performance from the Belgian. Poor on the ball, failed to track runners defensively and ...
Manchester City will look to compound Arsene Wenger's woes when they visit the Emirates Stadium this weekend, knowing a win would take them closer to the Premier League title and inflict a potentially fatal blow to Arsenal's chances. Wenger's side have capitulated in recent weeks and a win for Manuel Pellegrini's team in London would almost certainly leave the battle for the Premier League crown as a three-way race between City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Arsenal, humiliated 6-0 at leaders Chelsea and held to a 2-2 home draw by Swansea City after conceding a last-minute equaliser on Tuesday, would have hoped for an easier match to revive their ailing title bid. City lie third with 66 points, three behind Chelsea but with two games in hand, and they will look to build on their impressive 3-0 win at bitter local rivals Manchester United on Tuesday. Jose Mourinho's Chelsea travel to struggling Crystal Palace and second-placed Liverpool, only a point off the top on 68 points, host Tottenham Hotspur. It is 10 year ...
Scholes takes a dig at Arsenal - 26 March 2014, 13:12 Once one of Arsenal's chief tormentors on the pitch, Paul Scholes dissected the Gunners with a withering verbal assault after a home draw with Swansea City on Tuesday ended any hope of a late Premier League title charge. The former Manchester United midfielder was known for letting his boots do the talking during a glittering Old Trafford career but when asked to pick over the pieces of Arsenal's season, he held nothing back. "It was a typical week for Arsenal really," Scholes, who was working for Sky Sports as a pundit, said after the Gunners drew 2-2 with Swansea City, three days after a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea in Arsene Wenger's 1 000th game in charge. "They capitulated at Chelsea and it seems to be a similar theme again at the top teams. "It happened at Liverpool. They conceded six against Man City and for one reason or another players seem to go missing... "It seems like they go on the pitch with no discipline. "It's as though four, f ...
Paul Scholes advises Manchester United to stick with David Moyes Paul Scholes feels his old club Manchester United should stand by boss David Moyes and back him in the transfer market. Moyes has already shelled out £27.5million on Marouane Fellaini and £37.1million on Juan Mata since taking the reins at Old Trafford from Sir Alex Ferguson. However, Tuesday night's 3-0 defeat by rivals City marked the sixth time this season that the reigning champions have been turned over at home in the Premier League. They have also slipped 15 points behind Manuel Pellegrini's title chasers in the table but former Red Devils star Scholes, a guest pundit on Sky Sports' Football Special, is of the opinion that United must back their manager. "You have to," said Scholes. "He's only nine months into the job. You have to stand by him. "OK, he's made a couple of signings that haven't quite worked out yet, as he would have liked. "In the summer, he's going to need backing - there's no doubt about that. Was he backed as well a ...
Manuel Pellegrini praised Manchester City's defensive resolve after they comfortably beat neighbours Manchester United, saying it gives his free-scoring title-chasers more freedom to attack. City's 3-0 win at Old Trafford means they have kept clean sheets in their last five Premier League games, the first time they have the achieved the feat in the top flight since 1915. Pellegrini believes his side's defensive stability is the most important asset in their pursuit of a second league title in three seasons. "For me it's very important to keep our clean sheet. We know we can score lots of goals," he told Sky Sports. "We were very compact and worked completely in attacking and defending. "I'm very happy with the way we're defending, now we have five clean sheets in a row (in the league)." City were dominant against a toothless United side who have now lost 10 league games in a season for the first time since 1991 as they look set to record their lowest points total in a Premier League campaign. City striker ...
Chelsea captain John Terry believes Didier Drogba still has all the qualities of a world-class striker after the former team-mates came up against each other in the Champions League on Tuesday. This week saw Drogba make his first trip to Stamford Bridge since leaving in 2012 as Galatasaray took on the Blues in the second-leg of their last-16 tie. The 36-year-old was unable to find the back of the net, though, as the Premier League giants eventually emerged 2-0 victors on the night, securing a 3-1 aggregate win. Terry remains convinced the Ivory Coast striker is still just as deadly a force as he was during his highly successful eight-year stay at Chelsea, where he won numerous English titles, as well as the Champions League crown in his final contribution for the club. "It was really strange actually - even in the first leg, he's so strong," Terry told Sky Sports. "When the ball goes up from the keeper, no matter how strong you are, you can't get it off him and I don't think there's anyone better in the w ...
Liverpool closed to within four points of Premier League leaders Chelsea after Steven Gerrard scored two penalties in a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Gerrard converted from the spot in each half before missing a third penalty after Nemanja Vidic was sent off before Luis Suarez scored a late third to keep Liverpool, who have a game in hand on Chelsea, firmly in the title hunt. A delighted Graeme Souness, who kept his emotions in check said it was an excellent display from Brendan Rodgers' men but wants them to focus on each game as they come. "They have to approach it as if they are not going to win it," explained Souness on Sky Sports. "Deep down the manager has to believe, deep down the players have to believe they can win it but the message they have to get out there is that they are still second favourites or third favourites and every game is vital. "They have got themselves into a great position. Going to Old Trafford and winning in the manner they did; well they s ...
Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky believes that this season's Premier League title race will only be decided on the final day of the season. "I think it's a great race for the fans as well as the players," Rosicky told Sky Sports. "I think it will be until the last game of the season. "This is a very tough league, every game is very important and there are plenty of games still to go."

S Firm Baron Capital Buys a Quarter of Manchester United Shares. American investment group Baron Capital have bought 25 percent of all Manchester United shares available on the New York Stock Exchange. As reported by Sky Sports, this represents 2.5 percent of the club and keeps the Glazer family in control with a 90 percent stake in the Premier League outfit: Analysts believe the accumulation of shares reflects the firm viewing United as a good long-term investment, rather than Baron Capital making any bid to secure a controlling interest in the club. The Glazer family only released 10 per cent of the club on to the stock market - they still retain 90 per cent and control the vast majority of votes. Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images Despite a dwindling league position and lack of prospects for the remainder of the season, United's share price finished the day at $15.84 on Monday, March 10, "the highest level since November," according to Sky Sports' report. Brendan Rodgers insists his Liverpool side is not contemplating a Premier League title tilt despite Saturday's results having seen his side move to second in the table. The Liverpool manager saw goals from Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard see off Southampton 3-0 at St Mary's Stadium on a day when Arsenal slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Stoke City. With Liverpool now four points off leaders Chelsea and ahead of Arsenal on goal difference, Rodgers remains calm when it comes to talk of a title challenge. "Everyone speaks about Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City and rightly so. For us, we're just concentrating on ourselves," he told Sky Sports. "We just want to keep improving, mentally we're getting stronger all the time. With 10 games to go, we'll just see where it takes us.
Wayne Rooney finally agrees new £300k per week deal The Manchester United striker has agreed a new five-and-a-half year contract worth up to £300,000 a week. The 28-year-old England international will extend his current contract by four years, tying him to the club until June 2019. His old deal, which would have expired next year, paid up to £250,000 a week. It looks as if Rooney is back on side, he's been United's best player this season alongside Adnan Januzaj and he's been one of the few bright sparks in what has otherwise been an awful season for the club. Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports "while it sounds like it's costing United a lot of money - and he was already their highest paid player - but what would United have gained from selling him?" "There would have been no upside; they've just put their money where their mouth is by bringing in Mata, now it's time to re-build the team around these key players and get back towards the top of the Premier League." now that negotiations are finally settled, ...

Bent denies United, Spurs sink Everton 09 February 2014, 20:06 An injury-time goal from Fulham's Darren Bent inflicted more pain on champions Manchester United as the bottom club rescued a 2-2 Premier League draw on Sunday, adding fuel to the fire for manager David Moyes's critics. It was a further blow to United's hopes of securing Champions League football next season and left them nine points behind Liverpool in fourth spot and six adrift of Tottenham Hotspur who beat Everton 1-0 with a goal from Emmanuel Adebayor. Late strikes from Robin Van Persie and Michael Carrick helped United cancel out Steve Sidwell's opener and evoked some of the never-say-die attitude that characterised former manager Alex Ferguson's long spell at the club. However, the uncertainty that has plagued the new regime came back to bite them as Fulham substitute Bent headed in at the far post to nick a point in the 94th minute. "Today was as bad as it gets," a shell- shocked Moyes told Sky Sports television. "We dominated the game. ...

We are set for a brilliant weekend of Premier League Football on Sky Sports with Man Utd, Manchester City, Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal all featuring on our live coverage.
Manchester City scored so many goals in their Capital One Cup first leg semifinal thrashing of West Ham that Edin Dzeko forgot how many they mustered. The Bosnian striker scored twice, notching City’s fifth and sixth goals in a victory that takes them to the brink of a first League Cup final since 1976. But he said to Sky Sports: "It's not easy to win 5-0 at home against a Premier League team but we did. Was it 6-0? Oh.” And manager Manuel Pellegrini, who famously got his maths wrong in the Champions League game away at Bayern Munich when he thought City needed to win 5-2 to top the group -- whereas 4-2 would have sufficed -- sympathised. “That happens sometimes,” he smiled. “It was a brilliant performance. It doesn't matter if we were two, three or four up we kept playing the same way, always looking for more goals.” Alvaro Negredo scored a hat trick and Yaya Toure struck after a long solo run and Pellegrini allayed fears that the midfielder, who seemed hurt by a first-half challenge with Moh ...

Arsenal legend wants Wenger to sign £34m Chelsea target Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Chelsea striker target Diego Costa could hold the key to success in North London this season. The Atletico Madrid star has been heavily linked with a move away from La Liga, with both Premier League clubs reportedly chasing the £34million-rated forward. And, the Sky Sports pundit believes the Brazilian could potentially be crucial to Arsene Wenger this season, as the Gunners chase their first title since 2004. "Arsenal need a centre-forward and badly. I think Olivier Giroud is a good player and I like him but I'm not just talking about this season but next season and the one after," he wrote in a feature on the website. "Arsenal are in such a good position at the moment you just don't want to blow it in February or March because you haven't got a centre-forward. "I'd love to see them get someone like Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid who would cost a lot of money but Arsenal have got enough it. If they got him the ...
Elliot Grandin is open to leaving Crystal Palace in January after being frozen out at Selhurst Park. The French midfielder was signed by former Palace boss Ian Holloway in August, but has not made a single appearance in the Premier League this season. Grandin has been linked with Championship clubs Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic as well as a move to Turkey. The former Blackpool man's agent, Christian Emile, has revealed that the 26-year-old has grown increasingly frustrated with a lack of first-team football and could seek pastures new this month. Emile told Sky Sports: "Elliot has been working hard but has not got his chance to impress on the pitch for Crystal Palace, "He needs to be playing regular football so if the right club and opportunity here or abroad presents itself this January, then we will definitely consider it." Update via Sky Sports : West Ham will be without any recognised central defenders for their Premier League clash with fellow strugglers Fulham on New Year's Day. James Tomkins was forced off early in the 3-3 draw with West Brom with a groin injury and joins fellow defenders James Collins (groin) and Winston Reid (ankle) on the sidelines, although midfielder Ravel Morrison could return. Andy Carroll is back in training following a long-term heel injury but is not in contention whilst Ricardo Vaz Te (shoulder), Stewart Downing (calf) and Mladen Petric (thigh) all miss out. I guess someone is telling porkies in the fact that Petric has left the club & they saying he misses out thru a thigh strain , also Ravel could return. GUSTAVO POYET CONFIRMS ILL Fabio Borini TAKEN TO HOSPITAL The Sunderland boss is hopeful the striker will be well enough to return to Wearside with the squad after collapsing during the interval in the 2-2 draw with Cardiff City. Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet confirmed that Fabio Borini was taken to hospital ill at half time in their 2-2 draw with Cardiff City. The Premier League's bottom club produced a stirring fightback as a Steven Fletcher strike and a 95th-minute goal from Jack Colback earned a point for the visitors after Jordon Mutch and Fraizer Campbell had seemingly put Cardiff in command. However, there is some concern over on-loan Liverpool striker Borini, who was replaced by Fletcher on Saturday after reportedly collapsing during the interval. Borini had felt unwell in the build-up to the game and Poyet has since allayed fears over the 22-year-old by revealing he has now been released following his precautionary trip to hospital. "He's in hospital now," Poyet told Sky Sports. "Fabio was feel ...
Premier League: Chelsea's Jose Mourinho again bemoans lack of killer instinct Last Updated: 26/12/13 6:22pm 2 Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he felt under pressure as his side could not kill the game off against Swansea. Sky Bet Loading Market ... Football Betting £30 Free Matched Bet Jose Mourinho was disappointed to again see his Chelsea side fail to kill off their opponents as they scrapped to a 1-0 win over Swansea City. Eden Hazard's first-half goal in the Boxing Day fixture was enough to keep the Stamford Bridge club on the pace with their Premier League title rivals. But Mourinho, who had been moaning earlier in the week about his team not taking their chances, again saw his players waste opportunities in a match in which they had 19 shots. "We lost Ramires with a yellow card, which is obviously a problem for us but it is not a time to cry" Jose Mourinho "It is almost the same story as we had in previous matches - lots of chances, their goalkeeper did very well," Mourinho told Sky Sports. He's one of the most enigmatic and engaging figures in Premier League history and this Christmas, Sky Sports will get under the skin of Thierry Henry.
Jose Mourinho is right when he asks for his current team not to be compared to the all-conquering Chelsea side he managed from 2004 up to his departure in September 2007. "Please stop asking the same question every week [about how his teams compare]," he requested when being interviewed by Sky Sports in the aftermath of the loss to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup. That team from almost a decade ago was one of the greats of Premier League history, winning back-to-back titles and shaking up English football like nothing else in a generation. The Chelsea Mourinho inherited this summer is an altogether different beast, containing younger players who are yet to reach the peak he found John Terry, Frank Lampard et al when he first arrived. Chelsea were ready for success in 2004. They're not quite there just yet as years of managerial changes have meant instability has prolonged their transition from perceived footballing brutes to darlings of a Beautiful Game. The changes at Chelsea have been significant in t ...
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew was left to rue Loic Remy's missed chances after seeing his side held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at St James' Park. Yoan Gouffran gave Newcastle a deserved half-time lead, but Southampton improved after the break and earned a point thanks to Jay Rodriguez's superb goal. In an open contest, Remy wasted Newcastle's best two openings when he saw his first-half effort kicked off the line by Calum Chambers before he missed a gilt-edged chance in the second after being gifted the opportunity by Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. Pardew admitted the misses proved to be the difference in the game as Newcastle had to settle for a share of the spoils. "It was a real Premier League game, good teams at it, but Southampton have got a great defensive record and we had two massive opportunities with Loic," Pardew told Sky Sports. "I thought he [Remy] played well today, but those two you would expect him to score and at this level it would have made the difference. "The rest of the game ...
Manuel Pellegrini: Did not appear to know a 4-2 win would have won the group Manuel Pellegrini appeared to be unaware that Manchester City needed only one more goal against Bayern Munich to top their UEFA Champions League group. City were 2-0 down at the Allianz Arena inside the opening 12 minutes, but drew level through goals from David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov before James Milner put the Premier League side ahead on 62 minutes. A fourth goal would have seen City top Group D by virtue of a better head-to-head record against Bayern, who won 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the competition. However, with two minutes to go, Pellegrini replaced striker Edin Dzeko with midfielder Jack Rodwell and appeared to suggest he thought City required a 5-2 win in order to finish first. "It is very important to be first in the group but not the most important thing. It was difficult to score two goals and I think that Silva couldn't play more than 70 minutes." The City boss told Sky Sports when asked if he was t ...
Jordan Henderson has called on his Liverpool teammates to replicate their outstanding form at home when they venture south to challenge Tottenham Hotspur in seven days' time. A 4-1 victory over West Ham United on Saturday catapulted the Reds into second place in the Barclays Premier League and extended their home record in 2013-14 to seven wins out of eight. Results away from L4 have been a different story, however, with Henderson and co securing all three points only twice - at Aston Villa and Sunderland - from their seven fixtures on the road so far this season. The midfielder, who has started every one of his team's Premier League matches in the current campaign, now wants a carbon copy of recent performances at Anfield away from Merseyside. He told Sky Sports: "We have been working really well together in training. We are a very close group; we have just been working really hard and it has been paying off. Hopefully we can take this form on the road as well. "Tottenham have got some fantastic players, ...
Lampard punishes former team 23 Nov 2013 23:00:16 Frank Lampard chose the perfect place to end his goalless run for Chelsea, in front of the West Ham fans who have never forgiven him for leaving the east London club more than a decade ago. The England midfielder scored the first and third goals of a comfortable 3-0 away win that put third-placed Chelsea's title bid back on track after a recent stumble and left West Ham worrying about relegation. The goals were Lampard's first after 10 Premier League games without one, ending his longest barren sequence since joining the Stamford Bridge team in 2001. "I've had little patches in my career where that does happen but I have to keep my head," Chelsea's all-time record goalscorer told Sky Sports television. "I've been playing deeper recently and at times I've missed a couple of opportunities that I'd expect to score." Lampard has always had a torrid time at the hands of West Ham fans and they once again booed his name when the teams were announced. His father, ...

Arsenal and Liverpool are two of several Premier League clubs tracking Preston North End starlet Josh Brownhill, according to Sky Sports. The 17-year-old broke into the Preston first-team earlier this season after scoring six goals in eight games for the youth team at Deepdale. And his impressive performances for the senior sides have attracted Premier League scouts, with representatives from Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Stoke, Fulham, Southampton and Swansea making the trip to watch him in action. And Brownhill is yet to sign a professional contract, which opens the door for one of the Premier League giants to poach him away from Preston for a compensatory fee. But Cassius Management, the company that represents Brownhill, says he's happy playing first-team football at Preston. A statement given to Sky Sports said: "Josh is very happy at Preston having made his debut and wants to repay the manager, club and fans for their faith in him. "We will hold talks with the club over a professio ...
Sky Sports understands a number of Premier League and Championship clubs are tracking Bournemouth defender Steve Cook. Cook has caught the eye for Bournemouth this season with a number of impressive performances since their promotion to the Sky Bet Championship. The 22-year-old has been an ever-present for Eddie Howe's side this term and his fine form was rewarded with the club's player of the month award for October. Cook's performances have not gone unnoticed with scouts flocking to the Goldsands Stadium to keep tabs on his progress. Premier League trio Norwich, West Brom and Crystal Palace and Championship duo Queens Park Rangers and Leicester are all thought to be admirers of Cook. Bournemouth tied Cook down to a new deal in the summer to ward off potential suitors and they are braced for further interest in the talented defender when the Transfer Window reopens in January.

Torres Savours Chelsea Win (Sky Sports) Fernando Torres admitted that Chelsea's victory over Manchester City tasted sweeter because the win was sealed so late in the game. Torres was left with a simple finish following a miscommunication between Matija Nastasic and Joe Hart in the 90th minute, which saw the defender head the ball beyond his goalkeeper. Chelsea had earlier been pegged back by Sergio Aguero's equaliser after Andre Schurrle had broken the deadlock, and Torres felt the three points were fully deserved. "When you win a game like this against a great team like Manchester City in the last minutes of the game it feels much better," Torres told Sky Sports. "I think 1-1 was not right for the game. I think we controlled most of the game and we had more chances in the first half. "At the end we won a game we decided to win. We are happy because it is our first win against a contender for the Premier League." Torres, who set up Schurrle's opener, grabbed the winner from what was little more than a hop ...
helsea manager has insisted that he is happy with his current strikeforce - despite the form of Romelu Lukaku at Everton. Mourinho, who sanctioned The Belgian's season-long loan move to Goodison Park, has come in for some criticism for allowing the Belgium international to leave Stamford Bridge while his other options - Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres - are not firing on all cylinders as yet this term. However, the Portuguese says that he is content with his marksmen in spite of their individual form, insisting that how they operate with the team is priority. He told Sky Sports: "I'm happy with all of them, I'm happy with all the strikers. "They were not scoring goals, but were working really hard, they doing a really good job for the team. "There are different ways to contribute, sometimes scoring goals - which is the most important thing of course - but there are other ways to contribute to a team performance and they always did, all three." Ed Chamberlin: It's crunch time Sky Sports presenter Ed Chamberlin looks ahead to England's crucial World Cup qualifiers and also assesses the Premier League title race. I interviewed Roy Hodgson at Wembley last week and the enormity of the games against Montenegro and Poland was very evident. He talked openly about the pressures and difficulties of the job and let's hope the team do the business for him on Friday night. Sky Bet seem to have faith as England are 1/3 to come out on top. Ed "As Jamie Redknapp said last weekend, the brilliance of young Adnan Januzaz papered over some serious cracks. David Moyes has problems to solve but dangerous to rule the champions out." Ed Meanwhile, the betting for the Premier League title gets more and more complex. All the contenders have weaknesses and are making life hard for punters but fascinating for the neutrals as we have a wide open title race. WALCOTT WANTS ARSENAL TO AGAIN BE FEARED Theo Walcott wants opposition teams to be fearful of Arsenal again. The Gunners have lost a bit of their swagger over the past few years and the England attacker has urged the North London club to again be one of those sides that Premier League clubs hate to play, just like what occurred in the last part of last season. "It is quite frustrating at times, because we should have done that at the start of the season," he told Sky Sports. "Who knows where we would have been. "We need to remember those moments that we had and make sure we do it from the start, because we could be challenging for anything. We could beat anyone. "We want that sort of fear factor, especially at the Emirates." My take Theo! Theo!! Theo!!! How many times I call you.?

AZ Alkmaar Reject Sunderland Approach For Striker Jozy Altidore Dutch side want to keep American goal machine. AZ Alkmaar have turned down a bid from Premier League side Sunderland after they made a bidfor Jozy Altidore, according to Sky Sports. The Black Cats made the offer last Tuesday as boss Paolo Di Canio looks to continue to reshape the squad by bringing the American international back to England for a second spell. Altidore spent a solitary and unsuccessful season with Hull City in 2009 that saw him bag just one goal in 28 appearances. However, he has seen his stock rise considerably since making the move to the Eredivise and last season notch 31 goals across all competitions. Alkmaar last week sold highly rated young midfielder Adam Maher to PSV Eindhoven for £8 million and are now under no pressure to let Altidore leave. An AZ spokesman told Dutch press agency ANP: “A first bid was insufficient. We have let them know that. Now we have to wait.” Altidore has also been a key figure in the Unit ...
SORRY, HERE'S THE UPDATED VERSION: Young Slovenian goalkeeper Gregor Zabret has confirmed he is joining Swansea City this summer. Sky Sports sources on Friday revealed last season's Capital One Cup winners had agreed terms with NK Domzale for the 17-year-old. And Zabret has now revealed he chose a move to Swansea over their Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion, as well as Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. "It is true. I am coming to Swansea City," the teenager told Sportal. "I got some offers this summer, even West Brom and Sporting Lisbon wanted me. But I chose Swansea City some time ago. "That was a decision that was taken after talking with my family. I believe that my decision is the right one. "I know I will have to work hard to prove myself but I am ready for that and I believe that I will succeed in Premier League." Zabret will inevitably be one for the future for Swansea given they already have reliable goalkeepers in Michel Vorm and Gerhard Tremmel.

The 18-year-old centre-back has attracted interest from a host of top European clubs, after a series of commanding performances in Ligue 1 last season. Bayern Munich and AC Milan are both believed to be monitoring Zouma's situation, but it's Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho who is understood to be on the verge of making a bid. Zouma almost arrived in the Premier League - and West London - last summer, as his representatives held preliminary talks over a move to Queens Park Rangers. Portuguese newspaper A Bola have reported that Sporting Lisbon will only be willing to sell young defender Tiago Ilori to Liverpool for a fee over €10m after it was revealed the Premier League club put in an offer well below the asking price. Despite Sporting Lisbon’s financial issues the club are keen to keep hold of the 20 year old defender and hope to include him in their first team squad for the 2013/14 season. A Bola have claimed the club will only start to go into negotiations with Liverpool if a bid over €10m is put in, but they hope they can get nearer to €15m for the player. Kevin Keegan has described his second spell as Newcastle United manager as "an absolute living nightmare". Keegan, a favorite with the club's fans during his playing days and a successful manager from 1992-97, returned in 2008 hoping to turn the team's fortunes around after a 12th place finish the previous season. "I thought it could be good, but no, it was a nightmare, an absolute living nightmare," Keegan told Former England cricketer Steve Harmison during an interview shown on Sky Sports television. In his first spell as Newcastle manager, Keegan took the back to the Premier League and they finished second behind Manchester United in 1996. During his second period in charge, however, Keegan criticised the Newcastle board for not giving him enough financial backing to break into the top four. He was also angered by his complete lack of involvement in the loan signing of Uruguayan midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez. The Former England manager originally said he had left Newcastle voluntarily but later took the ...
Before the Sky Sports interview, my opinion of Kevin Keegan was simply "You're a brilliant manager, but you can't handle the bad times." But after watching that, I couldn't help but think "What if Ashley done what Keegan wanted? Where would we be now?" Knowing Kevin Keegan's style of football, we'd be going out every single week in the manner of "If you score 1, we score 2. You score 5, we score 6." We can't say "Newcastle would still be fighting relegation.", because he would have bought players, and that's something he wasn't allowed to do. He managed NUFC the first time when I was 2 years old, but everyone that talks of Keegan, always talks of how close Newcastle came to a Premier League title. What's to say, if Ashley had backed Keegan, we wouldn't be doing that now? I would love Keegan to have a third spell here as gaffa. Let's be blunt, he's the second best manager we've had in 20 years, even if he came closer than Sir Bobby.

Missing out on Champions League football again despite amassing their highest Premier League points tally was hard for Tottenham Hotspur to swallow on Sunday and to make matters worse, it was arch rivals Arsenal who pipped them to the post once more. Two months ago it had looked as if Spurs would finally turn the tables on their North London foes when they beat them in the derby to establish a seven-point lead. However, despite Gareth Bale's superb winner in a 1-0 victory over Sunderland on the last day of the season, they could only finish fifth as Arsenal secured fourth with one point more after a less than assured 1-0 win at Newcastle United. "It's devastating. It's really hard to take," Spurs captain Michael Dawson told Sky Sports. "We've got 72 points, the highest total the club's ever got and we still miss out on the Champions League... it's hard to take. It's a hard day. It's not a good day." Monday Night Football: QPR defending unexplainable, says Sky Sports' Gary Neville Gary Neville was left baffled by Queens Park Rangers' 'unexplainable' defending at the weekend but thinks the Premier League's rock-bottom club could still produce a Great Escape. A 2-0 defeat by league leaders Manchester United on Saturday left Harry Redknapp's team at the foot of the table and seven points from safety with just 11 matches remaining in the season. There was little QPR could do to stop Rafael from opening the scoring with a wonderful strike but Sky Sports expert Neville was less than impressed with the defending which allowed Ryan Giggs to add United's second. But if QPR win and bring Southampton back into them, they could potentially go on a run" Gary Neville Quotes of the week Jose Bosingwa permitted Danny Welbeck to set up the goal while Stephane Mbia moved away from play, seemingly adjusting his gloves rather than focusing on the game, before Clint Hi ...
Matt Whitehouse Follow 108 Articles39K Reads17 Followers Zidane or Iniesta - Who is Football's Greatest Playmaker? 18 Feb 2013|Premier League: Aston Villa Reads 1K Cheer! 91 Comments 244 During last week I was watching Revista on Sky Sports, a show which provides very good analysis and insight of the Spanish league. Guillem Balague is a regular on the show and has become the face of the Spanish football punditry. He is never shy to express his views and opinion. On last week's show he made his most staggering suggestion to date, that Andres Iniesta was better than Zinedine Zidane. I was taken aback. As both are players to close to my heart in the football world, I felt it necessary to judge whether Balague’s assertions had any merit. Zinedine Zidane is one of the greatest players to grace the game. Along with Ronaldo (The Ronaldo) he is my favourite player. Yet enough of my nostalgia. As a young player he was dominant and physical yet possessed excellent skill and vision. He would play for Cannes and Bo ...

However, supporters should note that, if either Manchester United or Arsenal are competing in the UEFA Champions League semi-final the following Tuesday, the trip to the Etihad Stadium will be moved to Sunday 28 April 2013 at 4pm.
Chelsea full-back has praised the club, extending his rival on the back position, Ashley Cole. Speculation earlier in the season sent the England left-back Ashley Cole away from Chelsea, but instead extended his earlier this year his contract with the London club. Now roses club's second left-back Ryan Bertrand, management for their decision to renew with the experienced player. He looks forward time to learn more from Cole. - I have said from the beginning that he deserves a new contract. We have a good relationship. I always learn, and a nobody better to learn from, said Bertrand according to Sky Sports. - He has given me lots of good advice over the years. The best advice has not been what he specifically said, but instead just to watch him every single day. - Our relationship reflect on our performance when we play together, and I play in front of him as a left midfielder, joined Bertrand, as I said, also can fill the role in midfield. Bertrand has played 15 Premier League games this season. /MJ
Davide Santon has reiterated his happiness at playing in the English Premier League amidst speculation of a move back to Italy during the January Transfer Window, according to Sky Sports. AC Milan were believed to be interested in the young full-back as they were considering the future of Ignazio Abate. Santon has shone this campaign and despite Newcastle United‘s poor league form, he says he will not be following his former Inter teammate Mario Balotelli to the Rossoneri who themselves have performed below expectations in the Serie A. Form “At the moment this is the only place to play for me,” Santon told the Evening Chronicle. “There are not a lot of Italians in the Premier League, just Fabio Borini. The Premier League is better than Serie A and better than La Liga. The fans here are the best. “Playing at Newcastle has also helped me get back into the Italy squad. My coach in Italy is happy with me and so is Mr Pardew. I will keep giving 100 per cent.” Santon joined Newcastle in August 2011 ...

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini concedes he is unlikely to bring in a replacement for Mario Balotelli after confirming the Italy striker is close to leaving the club. Much of the talk prior to City's Premier League clash with QPR at Loftus Road on Tuesday surrounded Balotelli, who was reportedly closing in on a move to AC Milan. Speaking after the game, which ended 0-0, Mancini confirmed the controversial forward was close to leaving but played down talk of an imminent replacement. "Both clubs are talking about him," Mancini told Sky Sports. "I think maybe tomorrow they conclude. I think that Mario is due for a medical. "We are very sorry because we love Mario. But I think that he had this big chance to go back to Italy and to play for another top club like Milan." When asked about any potential replacements, Mancini revealed that discussions over the sale of Balotelli only began 48 hours ago, leaving precious little time for further deals. He added: "Four days ago we didn't have nothing, but the las ...

heir 1-1 all draw with Tottenham Sir Alex Ferguson blasted the officials after seeing his team pegged back by Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Manchester United looked to be heading for three Premier League points when Robin Van Persie scored before the break but Clint Dempsey found a stoppage-time equaliser to deny Ferguson's men. And the United boss was not only convinced that Wayne Rooney was denied a second-half penalty but also blamed the assistant referee for not giving anything his side's way. "The stand-side linesman never gave us a thing all day," Ferguson told Sky Sports. "For me, it was a poor performance by him. "Why he never saw the penalty kick on Wayne Rooney and some of the other decisions... "We remember him well from the Chelsea game (in 2010) when (Didier) Drogba was three yards offside and he gave him onside. "I think he had a shocking game today. I'm disappointed in his performance, I really am. I think he had a bad game." But Ferguson did reserve some praise for Spurs as the home team b ...

SAMF: The assistant referee who told Joleon Lescott to thank the Manchester City fans at the Emirates on Sunday has been removed from duty for Tuesday's FA Cup third-round replay between West Bromwich Albion and Queen's Park Rangers as punishment by referees' officials. John Brooks captured the imagination of fans when he was caught on camera telling Lescott that the City fans deserved to be thanked because of the high ticket prices they had paid to watch the Premier League game at the Emirates. During the post-match handshakes, the Sky Sports microphones broadcast Brooks saying to Lescott: "They've paid 62 quid over there, go and see them".
PremierLeague Match Predictions snd analyses based on recent performances: Merse says there's no way Man City will beat Arsenal as he previews the weekend's Premier League games QPR v Tottenham: 12pm, Sat, Sky Sports 2 HD QPR had a great result at Chelsea and as it's much easier to win games when you're not expecting anything they'll half-fancy themselves to get something at home to Tottenham. People might say they need to win games in their situation, but if they nick points here and there they will mount up over the season and they have given themselves a chance of staying up after beating Chelsea. Tottenham have been playing well, but Loftus Road is a tight pitch and I can't see Gareth Bale getting loads of room to run at players with pace - and that will help QPR. Plus there's no Emmanuel Adebayor, so Spurs can't get balls in the box to him from all angles. You'd still make Tottenham favourites, but you never know with QPR. They can't be dominated for the first 30 minutes of the match, as they were ag ...

ARSENAL BOSS HURT BUT HOW DO U THINK WE FEEL SIR Arsene Wenger has come out today and revealed just how much it will hurt him to see one of his rivals lift another trophy this season and his team fail for the eighth year to pick anything up. As we have been reminded on a regular basis over the years, we have not won a trophy since our win against Manchester United in 2005 in the FA Cup and since then we have barely even got close to winning anything. And because we are so far behind in the Premier League, Wenger knows the FA Cup represents his best chance to put an end to years of frustration. Speaking to Sky Sports he said: “Of course, it bothers me because I am not here to watch other people win trophies. “It is important and I will give my best to win on Sunday. I will just remind you that I have won the FA Cup four times. “Of course that (reminders of the drought) is not pleasant, but the only way to do it is to win.” He is right; the only way to do anything about it is win. But the fact is we ...

Demba Ba: Chelsea trigger Newcastle striker's release clause Comments (373) Chelsea have triggered the release clause in Newcastle forward Demba Ba's contract. Ba, 27, has been given permission to speak to Chelsea and will miss Wednesday's game against Everton. It is believed his contract contains a clause which allows him to speak to other clubs in the event of a £7m bid. The Senegalese, who joined Newcastle from West Ham in June 2011, is currently joint-second top scorer in the Premier League with 13 goals. Did you know? Ba has scored 36 Premier League goals since arriving in 2011. Only Robin Van Persie (64) and Wayne Rooney (44) have more in that era. Newcastle have attempted to negotiate a new deal with the Senegal international in recent months, which would remove the clause, but it became active on 1 January. Earlier this week, Magpies boss Alan Pardew was hopeful Ba would stay but criticised the network of people representing the player. However he is now resigned to losing Ba. He told Sky Sports: ...

Review of the year-Elliott "I swear you will never see anything like this ever again". The immortal line from Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler applied to the breathtaking conclusion of last season's Premier League title race, as Sergio Aguero won the trophy for Manchester City with almost the final kick of the campaign. But, let us be honest, it could have related to 2012's footballing year. It has been a truly spectacular 12 months for sport as a whole and the Beautiful Game played its part. There has been title-winning team brilliance and record-breaking individual displays. At the same, there has been sadness and those instances to forget, when it has felt like off-field events have become more of a focus than the matches themselves. Away from Aguero reducing grown Manchester City fans to tears, the purity of Lionel Messi's year-long radiance cannot be ignored. The Argentine ripped up the history books to score the highest number of goals in a calendar year and underline his reputation as the best f ...

The Former England international, who earns a reported £90,000 a week, is expected to leave Anfield in January as he does not feature in boss Brendan Rodgers' long-term plans. .Lampard remains coy on Chelsea future after Everton win. Frank Lampard has refused to shed any light on his future at Chelsea after he scored two goals against Everton to lead the Blues to a come-from-behind, 2-1 victory at Goodison Park Sunday. Returning to Chelsea's starting XI, Lampard saw his team go one goal down in the second minute on a Steven Pienaar strike before scoring a goal either side of halftime to push the Blues back into third place. The victory marks a fourth successive Premier League win for Rafael Benitez's team, but speculation continues to surround Lampard's future, with the 34-year-old midfielder eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January. "I just hope [the New Year] brings me playing in a winning team," Lampad told Sky Sports. "I keep trying to give my best like I've always done here, and I'll continue to do so. I'm enjoying playing, I was injured for a while, and I know there's a lot of speculation and talk but for me, it's all about the 90 minutes ...
