Middlesbrough pulled off an FA Cup upset as they beat Premier League champions Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.Patrick Bamford’s goal in the early stages of the second half put Boro ahead and substitute *** doubled the lead in stoppage time to take the Championship side into the last 16.Although there were opportunities for Willy Caballero and Dedryck Boyata, City boss Manuel Pellegrini named a strong side that included the likes of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero so could hardly point to a weakened line-up.But in a game that pitted a Former Real Madrid coach in Pellegrini against a former assistant manager at the Bernabeu in Boro boss Aitor Karanka, it was an ex-Real goalkeeper that stole the show.Tomas Mejias made just one La Liga appearance for the Spanish giants prior to joining Middlesbrough last year but showed plenty of class in a hugely impressive display to deny City.Mejias kept out Stevan Jovetic’s rasping shot from distance before pulling off a
Arsene Wenger has revealed Arsenal missed out on signing Angel Di Maria for NOTHING. Argentinian superstar Di Maria, 26, joins a long list of big names - including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Yaya Toure and Zlatan Ibrahimovic - who nearly joined the Gunners when they were youngsters. Di Maria cost a British record £59.7m when he moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United in the summer, but Wenger admitted they nearly got him when he was just 17. But Wenger says the deal fell through because they could not get Di Maria a work permit - and they now face the same battle as they try to sign Villarreal's Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista. Wenger has called for work permits to be SCRAPPED and borders to be "opened up completely" in football as he claims it is unfair to stop non-European players coming to the Premier League. "We had identified Di Maria when he was 17," he said. "We wanted him to come here. So he goes to Portugal [with Benfica], from Portugal he goes to Spain. Why? Because he could not . ...

The six-time La Liga winner left Barca in the summer and spent the end of 2014 training with Van Gaal's United squad, before signing an 18-month contract earlier this month. He has since been on the bench for Premier League matches with Southampton and Queens Park Rangers, but with David De Gea likely to be rested for the trip to the Abbey Stadium, Valdes will make his United bow, according to numerous reporters. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho hailed his side as "perfect" in their victory over Swansea City while he believes his players are playing to their limit as they look to win four trophies. Oscar and Diego Costa both found the net twice in the first half at the Liberty Stadium before Andre Schurrle added a fifth late on. The victory moves the Blues five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, though Mourinho's side have played a game more. And the Former Real Madrid boss believes his team must secure some silverware to make sure they go down in history, though he feels his squad could not have done anything better in south Wales. He told reporters: "We were perfect. Everything went in our direction. "The first half was very good. We were solid and recovered the ball in good positions. The decisions we made with the ball were good decisions. I'm happy with the points and quality of our football. "The team still has to win cups in order to be remembered in 20 years. Chelsea to offload winger to fund Reus move Marco Reus is currently one of the hottest properties in world football and with Borussia Dortmund looking to cash in on the young German many of Europe's elite clubs are swarming. Chelsea, along with Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, have expressed an interest in Reus. With Mourinho's current attacking options (Mohamed Salah and Andre Schurrle) struggling, he is willing to sell the latter to fund a move for his compatriot. Reus is hoping to move to a big club and Chelsea would suit him perfectly with Belgium winger Eden Hazard and playmaker Oscar in the side. Chelsea are also challenging for major competitions and that will make Reus aware that he will be part of a big club. The top 10 features six Premier League players - Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas of Chelsea, Sergio Aguero of Manchester City, Raheem Sterling of Liverpool and Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal. Louis Van Gaal refused to entertain questions over Manchester United's rumoured bid for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. The 13-time Premier League champions have been linked with interest in the 25-year-old for some time, with ex-manager David Moyes admitting he made an approach ahead of the winger's move to Real Madrid. Bale's agent, David Manasseh, has rubbished talk of his client leaving the Santiago Bernabeu recently, but Van Gaal did not rule out a move when questioned by reporters on Tuesday. "I cannot discus that with you," Van Gaal told reporters. "I discuss that with my CEO and not with anyone of the media." Bale scored as Real Madrid won the Club World Cup final on Saturday, taking his tally since joining the Liga giants to 33 goals and 24 assists in 66 appearances.
Masterful Eden Hazard sets Chelsea fair for progress to last four! • Match report: Derby County 1-3 Chelsea Chelsea might have suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season though unlike Liverpool or Manchester United, say, they are still fighting on all four fronts and have now reached their first semi-final of the season (more to come). One would imagine the Capital One Cup is the least of José Mourinho’s priorities, but a team three points clear at the top of the table can afford to take lesser competitions seriously. Certainly a squad of such depth and quality has almost an obligation to give a good account of itself in a quarter-final, and with only a couple of exceptions for pensioners, such as Didier Drogba for Diego Costa and Petr Cech for Thibaut Courtois, the Rams found themselves facing the whole hog. That meant an appearance for Eden Hazard, for whom Real Madrid are reportedly willing to swap Gareth Bale, should Chelsea be willing to let him go. Mourinho needs to think carefull ...

David Luiz has insisted that Paris Saint-Germain are not afraid of Real Madrid or anyone else who they might be drawn against in the last 16 of the Champions League. A 3-1 defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday ensured that Laurent Blanc's men finished second in Group F, meaning they are not seeded for the next stage of the competition. As a result, their potential opponents in the last 16 are holders Real Madrid, last season's runners-up Atletico Madrid, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, Premier League table-toppers Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Porto. David Luiz does not fear being drawn against one of the European heavyweights and insists that PSG must be prepared to go toe-to-toe with the best if they want to win their first-ever Champions League title in 2014-15. Chelsea v Tottenham: Blues do not intimidate me, insists Mauricio Pochettino Mauricio Pochettino has urged Tottenham to take the bull by the horns at Chelsea tonight. Spurs have not beaten the Premier League leaders at Stamford Bridge since February 1990 but Pochettino gave no hint that he would adopt a cautious style against Jose Mourinho’s team. As coach of Espanyol, Pochettino took on Real Madrid and Barcelona at their peak, famously leading his side to a 2-1 victory at the Nou Camp in February 2009, shortly after he had taken charge of Barca’s unfashionable city rivals. “They do not intimidate me,” said Pochettino, who has led his team to back-to-back wins in the League for the first time since the start of the season. “I have full respect for sides like Chelsea and Manchester City but I always believe we can beat them. “This is my mentality. It is difficult to play against sides of this quality but always, you need to believe you can win. That is what we want to show.” As Tottenham appr ...

The 24-year-old left Anfield in the summer after 62 appearances and a single goal for the Reds, joining Crystal Palace, who host Brendan Rodgers' side at Selhurst Park for the resumption of domestic duties at the weekend. Liverpool head to the capital in search of a much-needed turnaround in results, having endured three successive defeats - by Newcastle United, Real Madrid and Chelsea - before the pause in Premier League action. Kelly will hope to be selected for the task of preventing that from happening in two days' time, but the Englishman nevertheless believes Rodgers' charges have the quality to post victories on the board sooner rather than later. "It's been difficult for them but I'm sure they will come back strong," he told the Liverpool Echo. "They've got too many good players there not t ...

The summer transferwindow has illustrated the sheer insanity of the current transfer market, in particular the fact that English players seem to be costing far more than their European contemporaries. Overpriced The British media tend to have this habit of overhyping any young English player that makes it through to the first team of basically any Premier League club. They are lauded as the next big superstar, or the next saviour of the England team. I have got carried away by young players in the past, but my fervour towards the youngsters tends to be tinged with a note of realise that the young player only has potential. I do not claim that they will be world beaters or world-class stars, because in truth very few do. Comparison one English players being hyped-up leads to them generally costing a king’s ransom in the transfer market. A good comparison to be made this summer is the transfers of Germany international Toni Kroos to Real Madrid and England midfielder Adam Lallana to Liverpool. Real Madrid ...
1.What do you make of Jason Cundy's comment? 2.Do you see Cech moving to Arsenal? 3.Do you agree that Arsenal is not Premier League title rivals? Jose Mourinho wouldn't try to block Petr Cech from moving to Arsenal, according to ex-Chelsea defender Jason Cundy, because he doesn't see the Gunners as Premier League challengers. Cech, 32, was linked to the likes of Real Madrid, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain in August after losing his number one spot to Thibaut Courtois, but Mourinho has continued to express his desire to keep the veteran at Stamford Bridge. "By signing for Arsenal, Cech could stay in London and he'd get regular playing time at a big club.” "Would Cech be a good signing for Arsenal?
David De Gea is aware of rumours linking him with Real Madrid but is ignoring them as he feels 'loved' at Manchester United. The 24-year-old knows all about the pressures and prestige of competing in the Spanish capital, having moved to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011. He initially struggled to get to grips with the Premier League, with concerns raised as to his ability to deal with the physicality of life in England. De Gea has, however, silenced his critics and emerged as one of United’s most consistent performers and one of European football’s top goalkeepers. Unsurprisingly, his efforts have been noted back in his homeland, with Real seeking a long-term successor to club icon Iker Casillas. De Gea is reading little into the speculation, though, as he remains under contract until 2016 and is thoroughly enjoying his time at United. He told La Sexta: "It is difficult to say whether a bid will be made by Real, because of all the rumours that appear in the press. "In Manchester I feel wanted. ...
Blues want Reus Chelsea now leading the pack for Borossia Dortmund winger Chelsea are now reportedly favourites to sign Borossia Dortmund winger, Marco Reus. The German World Cup winner has emerged as a prime target for several top club’s across Europe, after it was rumoured that Reus was unsettled at Dortmund, having stalled over a new contract with the Bundesliga club. However, despite closing in on any proposed deal, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will have to pay around £25 million to get his man, with Reus having a buy-out clause of that amount. Chelsea are also planning to throw in Andre Schurrle in the deal, to attempt to convince Dortmund to sell. Chelsea also face competition from Real Madrid, who are prepared to open up contract negotiations in order to bring him to the Spanish capital in time for next season. Elsewhere, Premier League interest in Reus remains strong, with Liverpool and Arsenal also keen to acquire his services.
Wenger: Ozil will be back to his best after injury lay-off The Arsenal boss feels that the World Cup left the German midfielder with little energy while he also denies that there is a rift between Alexis Sanchez and the ex-Real Madrid man Arsene Wenger is confident that Arsenal fans will see the best of Mesut Ozil when he returns from his latest injury lay-off. The Germany international is recovering from a knee ligament injury suffered on international duty, with the timeframe for his return set back until after the turn of the year. Ozil has been criticised for some under-par showings in the early weeks of the Premier League season, though Wenger puts that down to tiredness after winning the World Cup, and the former Monaco boss believes that the midfielder's return will coincide with improved performances. "I think, at Real, he played in a very strong team," the Arsenal manager told BeIn Sports, "and he had a very good season with us last year. "But he had the World Cup and came back tired. We will see ...
CECH: CHELSEA WILL DECIDE MY FUTURE The Czech international still has two years remaining on his current contract Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has been under heavy speculation regarding his future at Stamford Bridge hence the return of Thibaut Courtois to the club. Courtois, who spent three seasons on loan at Spanish side Atletico Madrid, has removed Cech as Chelsea's first-choice keeper since returning to West London at the start of this campaign, starting in all the Blues' Premier League fixtures this season. The Belgian has also recently signed a new five-year contract at Chelsea, which has increased the chances of Cech making a move away from Stamford Bridge; with both PSG and Real Madrid highly interested in signing the 32-year-old. However, Cech has assured to the media that any decision regarding his future will be made by the club. "As concerns my future at Chelsea, it depends entirely on the club. Everyone is asking me what if and what will be," the Czech international said. "As a player, who has ...

The Portuguese coach has so far lead Chelsea to the top of the table amazingly this season. After all, he’s not the ‘Special One’ for nothing. The 51-year-old is the youngest among his other leading counterparts in Premier League including Arsene Wenger, Louis Van Gaal and Manuel Pellegrini, but has experienced more successful stints with various clubs than any other manager. ‘Winners don’t do different things; they do things differently.’ Jose Mourinho, like every successful person, possesses some special qualities crucial for achieving success. But what makes him different from the others? Some will say he was born with the understa ...
Nine Great Players Who Look Past Their Best 9) Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) At 34 years of age, there's no denying that Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard's influence on games is waning, even if he is still a key player and inspirational leader for the Reds. 8) Iker Casillas (Real Madrid) Once the best goalkeeper in the world, Iker Casillas has had a rough couple of years and is likely to be offloaded by Real Madrid in the near future. 7) Xavi (Barcelona) One of the finest playmakers of his generation, Xavi is now at the stage where he is not a regular for Barcelona and not the creative force he was at his peak. 6) Nemanja Vidic (Inter Milan) A legendary centre-back in Premier League football, Nemanja Vidic was poor in his final season for Manchester United last year and has not looked great at Inter Milan either. 5) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) Still a great player on his day, but Wayne Rooney has looked a little jaded and past his peak for Manchester United and England in the last year or so. 4) Dani ...

Last time out brought some shocking results including Newcastle defeating Liverpool 1-0, Chelsea just scrapping a 2-1 win against QPR, and Manchester City winning against Manchester United 1-0 in a tightly contested Manchester derby. Many will be watching Liverpool closely this weekend to see if manager Brendan Rodgers team selection from Tuesday night's loss against Real Madrid is justified in their game against Chelsea. If the Reds manage to pick up a result against the undefeated Pensioners, the Northern Irishman will walk away from Anfield with a huge smile on his face. It will also be interesting to see how Manchester United bounces back from their Manchester derby defeat when they play at home against Crystal Palace, who hasn't won in their last four Premier League games. Here are Football Fan Cast's Premier League Predictions for th ...
Rodgers to bench Reds stars again? Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers warned some of his star players their place in the side for the visit of Chelsea on Saturday is far from assured after a battling performance by their understudies in a 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid. Rodgers controversially dropped captain Steven Gerrard, Mario Balotelli and Raheem Sterling to the bench amongst seven changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Newcastle on Saturday. Karim Benzema's first-half goal was enough for the European Champions to seal their place in the Champions League last 16 with a 12th consecutive victory in all competitions. However, after a disappointing start to the season, Rodgers was heartened by the performance of his side and claimed some of those who started have played themselves into contention to face the Premier League leaders at the weekend. "Tonight gives me great food for thought. It wasn't players rested as such, we played the team we thought could get the result," he said. "We haven't been consistent eno ...
José Mourinho aims sly dig at Liverpools team selection for Real Madrid game Against difficult opponents, I try to go with my best team Chelsea play Liverpool in the Premier League on SaturdayJoin Scott Murray for Real Madrid v Liverpool live! José Mourinho has offered a thinly veiled criticism of Liverpools team selection for their game at Real Madrid on Tuesday night by suggesting that, in contrast, he would always select his strongest lineup when confronting the most difficult opponents. Chelsea visit Anfield on Saturday lunchtime with Liverpool, their Champions League progress far from dependent upon winning in the Bernabeu, having rested a quintet of key players in Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Mario Balotelli, the captain Steven Gerrard and Coutinho for their group game against the reigning European Champions. Brendan Rodgers has always made clear the Premier League, and finishing in the top four, is his priority. Continue reading... More news on:

I’ve been following Real Madrid for almost 10 years now and have been a huge fan for about 7 or 8 of those years. For all those years, though, I only remember two instance when I was this nervous: the last match of the 2006-2007 season where we clinched the title. But that was one match, and I was still in the early days of my fandom. For those unfamiliar with the game, El Clasico (The Classic) is a much anticipated match of La Liga (Spanish Premier League) that takes place between 2 football giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Call it good luck or the law of attraction, few random events do occur and the universe often conspires to give you what you want. fortunate to have witnessed and watched. To witnessed goals by Messi and Ronaldo!? Whether on Tv or Bernabeu Stadium!? sounds like a dream to me :)
Man United listed second in European homegrown table. Louis Van Gaal's faith in United's youngsters has seen them listed second in the homegrown list of European footballers. Only Barcelona, where Van Gaal gave debuts to current stars Xavi and Andres Iniesta, have produced more footballers in the continent's top five leagues, according to the CIES Football Observatory. United have a total of 36 players developed, followed by Real Madrid [34], Lyon [33] and Paris Saint-Germain [27]. City are joint-last in the 51-club list, with one homegrown player in the current squad and 11 elsewhere across the continent. The stats combine homegrown players at their club and others sold or on loan in the Premier League, Spain's La Liga, the German Bundesliga, Italy's Serie A and France's Ligue 1 Despite accusations of the club selling its soul, Van Gaal has handed debuts to seven United youngsters nurtured at the club's academy this season. Liverpool and England forward Raheem Sterling is set to sign a new £100,000-a-week contract, which will be a blow to Real Madrid's hopes of signing the 19-year-old. LONDON, Oct 13, 2014 (AFP) Alex Ferguson Backs Louis Van Gaal's Major Spending Spree. Van Gaal was hired to clean up the mess left by David Moyes, whose brief reign as Ferguson's successor at Old Trafford ended with the club at their lowest ebb for two decades. United responded by hiring Van Gaal and handing the Dutch coach significant funds to breathe new life into the team. Van Gaal splashed out over £150 million ($240 million) on Angel Di Maria, who cost a club record £59 million, Radamel Falcao, Ander Herrera, Marcus Rojo and Luke Shaw. The new signings have helped United into the Premier League's top four already despite some indifferent performances, and Ferguson, who retired after winning the title in 2013, is in no doubt that fresh faces were needed. Referring to the capture of Di Maria from Real Madrid, he told MUTV: "When you can identify ability like that for Manchester United, they have the resources to do that - fees I never quite equalled but they needed a big injection this year." On the ...

Mesut Ozil missed one game in all of his three years at Real Madrid due to injury. At Arsenal he has missed 6 months of his first year there. Now, it might just be me, but Arsene Wenger must be training his players wrong, or doing something not quite right. It is the only way you can account for all the injuries Arsenal get, it us truly amazing. I know some would turn around and say "it is the Premier League, it is a lot more aggressive." But even then, other teams don't get the amount of injuries Arsenal do, at an incredible rate to. Arsene Wenger must be missing something.

IS JOSÉ BUILDING THE GREAT ENTERTAINERS FOR ABRAMOVICH? ~ HAVING SCORED 16GOALS BUT CONCEDED 7. Jose Mourinho might not appreciate the comparison but right now his Chelsea team more closely resemble Newcastle United in their heady days under Kevin Keegan than anything he has assembled before. Chelsea so far are the great entertainers&have scored&conceded more goals after 5 matches than any previous Mourinho team. Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw vs Schalke in the Champions League means Chelsea have found the net 16 times but had their own defence breached on 7 occasions. For a man so focused on tactical tightness that total is anathema to Mourinho, even if his side remain unbeaten. Only in his 2011-12 season at Real Madrid has Mourinho started a season anywhere like this 1 at Stamford Bridge. Back then after 5games in all competitions Real had scored 15goals&conceded 6. Wenger: Ronaldo, not Drogba, was my biggest regret The Arsenal boss admits the fact that the Portuguese superstar ended up at rivals Manchester United "still hurts" and reveals he would have loved to manage the Chelsea legend 18 Sep 2014 16:00:00 Arsene Wenger has revealed his biggest regret as Arsenal manager was failing to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting in 2003. Ronaldo ultimately signed for Manchester United in a deal worth just over £12 million and has gone on to achieve global superstardom at Old Trafford and Real Madrid, as well as being voted the best player in the world in 2008 and 2013. The Portuguese also won three consecutive Premier League titles and a Champions League crown with United between 2006 and 2009 while Arsenal were trophyless over the same period, and Wenger admits he wishes he had acted differently. Mourinho: i may go back to mardrid. the Portuguese trainer left the Champions League holders after three seasons in charge to take over at Chelsea but has hinted that he has unfinished business in Spain Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that he would jump at the chance to return to former club Real Madrid . Mourinho spent three years in the hotseat at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010-13, winning the 2012 Liga title and 2011 Copa del Rey. However, a failure to secure a Champions League trophy - Real were eliminated in the semi-finals in all three of Mourinho's seasons in charge - ultimately cost the Portuguese coach his job. Chelsea moved to bring Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge quickly and after a third-place finish in a campaign of transition last term, the Blues are red-hot favourites for this season's Premier League title. Though expressing delight at fulfilling a career goal in securing league titles in England, Italy and Spain, Mourinho has suggested he has unfinished business in the Spa ...

Even without AC Milan and Manchester United, 10-times winners between them, in this year's draw, there is predictability to what will eventuate. It is no coincidence that the four favourites this season - Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea - are also the last four heavyweight winners of the trophy. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has stated that Manchester United’s boss, Louis Van Gaal, will recover from a disastrous start to the season. LVG has failed to win a single game, losing one and drawing two in the process. Despite several high-profile signings and a Transfer Window record of more than £150 million, fans and experts alike are unsure of what this season holds for United. Van Gaal came to the Premier League with plenty of promise. Having left the World Cup with Holland, holding a 3rd place medal and plenty of plaudits, Dutchman made a fantastic start. After winning a trophy and matches against Real Madrid and Liverpool, Van Gaal seemed to have things under control. However, a 2-1 loss to Swansea, a 1-1 draw with Sunderland and a goalless draw with Burnley suggest otherwise. With Star signings Di Maria and Falcao, United will now be raring to go and push on for a top 4 sp ...
By Henry Winter, Football Correspondent Chelsea and Liverpool should progress confidently to the knockout stages of the Champions League, Arsenal will believe they can follow despite a couple of daunting away assignments while Manchester City were given their usual assault course but should still survive. But the Blancos boss did admit that Sami Khedira -- who might also be of interest to the Old Trafford outfit as well as fellow Premier League club Arsenal -- was being allowed to leave the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Ancelotti was speaking after a lacklustre Madrid side were outbattled and outplayed by a super-spirited Atletico team, who went ahead early through new centre-forward Mario Mandzukic and deserved to hold on to win 2-1 on aggregate even after coach Diego Simeone was sent to the stands. The Italian coach told his post-match news conference that it had been a sporting decision not to include Di Maria in his 18-man squad, but Khedira had not been selected as he was close to leaving th ...

Goal takes a look at the most notable winners and losers in La Liga, the Premier League, Serie A and beyond with just over two weeks left before the window slams shut. Premier League preview: A breakdown of the upcoming season. ARSENAL Manager: Arsene Wenger Last season: 4th Player to watch: Arsenal paid a club-record $66 million transfer fee to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil in 2013, a move that gave the Gunners one of the world’s best playmakers. Now with a season in England (not to mention a World Cup title) under his belt, the German superstar is looking to justify his huge price tag. Forecast: Once the envy of the Premier League, Arsenal has in recent years become synonymous with underachieving and failed expectations. Then again, only a championship is good enough for Gunners fans, meaning that this season will also end in disappointment. Aston Villa Manager: Paul Lambert Last season: 15th Player to watch: Star forward Christian Benteke has plenty to prove after an Achilles rupture ended his 2013-14 season ahead of schedule and ruled him out of Belgium’s World Cup squad. Four reasons why Manchester United will secure a top four finish By Omar Hamouda Posted on August 13, 2014 There is renewed optimism around Old Trafford this summer and rightly so. The arrival of Louis Van Gaal has rubbed excitement onto the shoulders of Manchester United players and fans alike, with the Dutchman already proving his worth despite the fact he is yet to open his Premier League account. After a calamitous 2013/14 season which saw the Red Devils finish not only seventh, but also manager-less, Van Gaal has had to work hard to restore sanity to the club. A tremendous pre-season so far has seen the club defeat Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Roma, as well as beating rivals Liverpool to win the International Champions Cup. Such showings have left the fans dreaming of more success and with experts and fans making their usual Premier League predictions ahead of the start of the campaign, here are four reasons why the club will definitely be experiencing Champions League football this time next year. 4 ...
Alberto Moreno: Sevilla are the club of my life and I'm sad to leave them... but I'm super-motivated to join Liverpool. Moreno was at Anfield to complete a medical on Wednesday. Left back is expected to complete a £12m move to Liverpool. Defender was in tears after Sevilla's Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid. Liverpool are gearing up to face Southampton in the league on Sunday. Alberto Moreno admits his departure from Sevilla has been emotional and complicated but he is relishing the prospect of joining Liverpool. The 22-year-old arrived at the club's Melwood training ground on Wednesday to finalise a £12million move to Anfield after Sevilla relented in Liverpool's long pursuit for the left-back. The defender did not appear to train with his new team-mates, however, as they geared up for their opening game of the Premier League season against Southampton on Sunday. Lazar Markovic - who has been suffering from a tendon problem - took part in training raising hopes that he may be fit for Sunday. New loan si ...
Should Liverpool sign Samuel Eto’o? Samuel Eto’o has become one of the most talked about footballers within this Transfer Window, as he appears to be attracting attention from all sorts of leagues, and from all sorts of levels. The Cameroon international is a free agent this summer after spending last season at Chelsea, and he is looking to prolong his career with another move. The latest Premier League club to become linked with the striker is Liverpool. The Reds have lost their star forward Luis Suarez to Barcelona, and Brendan Rodgers finds himself under increasing pressure to replace the Uruguayan. After a move for Lois Remy fell through amid medical concerns, and a tentative enquiry over Radamel Falcao was knocked back in favour of Real Madrid, Anfield now has its sights set on Eto’o. In many ways, it looks like a bad move. The man is 33 years old and all indications say that he is past his best. One of the most decorated players in the modern game, Eto’o’s days of spearheading title-winnin ...
Louis Van Gaal hopes to sign the Argentina defender Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon for €20 million and is renewing his interest in Ángel di María after the Real Madrid forward’s proposed transfer to Paris Saint-Germain fell through. The Dutchman is also considering a move for Ajax’s Daley Blind, all of which underlines the manager’s determination to strengthen his Manchester United squad considerably in the final days of the Transfer Window ahead of its close in just over two weeks time. Rojo is a left-sided defender who can operate at centre back, possesses considerable pace and is only 24, so fits the ideal of a Van Gaal player. The manager wants to deploy him at wing back in his proposed 3-5-2 system or in the centre of defence. Given his considerable international experience – Rojo played all 120 minutes of the World Cup final last month and was named in the team of the tournament – Van Gaal would have no qualms regarding his ability to adapt to the Premier League. The former Estudiant ...

FOOTBALL Chelsea ready £30m bid for Man Utd target Mehdi Benatia CHELSEA are ready to make a £30million bid for Roma defender Mehdi Benatia. With less than a week to go before Chelsea’s opening Premier League game, away to Burnley on Monday night, Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his defence with a move for the Moroccan centre-back. Benatia, 27, is also being chased by Manchester United but Chelsea are in the driving seat, with inquiries already having been made. They have switched their attention to Benatia because Real Madrid have indicated so far that French defender Raphael Varane is not for sale and with another target, Atletico Madrid star Joao Miranda, opting to stay in Spain. Mourinho has still not replaced Brazilian David Luiz, sold to Paris Saint Germain this summer for £50m and he believes that, even though he has Branislav Ivanovic and French youngster Kurt Zouma who could both fill in at centre-back if John Terry or Gary Cahill are injured, he still needs extra cover. If they push throu ...
Central defender Raphael Varane has been unhappy with his playing time and wages at Real Madrid, and a move to Chelsea could be in his future. Reuters As manager Jose Mourinho said earlier this week, possessing two of the best goalkeepers in the world in Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois is a good problem for Chelsea to have heading into the new Premier League term. The Great One meant it more from a competition standpoint, with the Czech and 10-year Stamford Bridge netminder and budding Belgian 22-year-old pushing each other to greater heights. But now Mourinho’s phrasing has taken on new meaning, with the Blues leveraging the position battle into a possible deal for a young, top-flight defender. Mourinho has been enamored with Real Madrid central defender Raphael Varane well before he brought the French international to the Bernabeu in 2011, and now he could facilitate a move to London with Los Blancos keen on acquiring the 32-year-old Cech for their coming La Liga and Champions League runs, The Express ...

Real Madrid lead Liverpool in race to sign Falcao Liverpool made an approach for Monaco forward Radamel Falcao earlier this week, according to a report, but were told Real Madrid were on the verge of a deal. The Guardian believes that Brendan Rodgers’ side inquired about the possibility of signing the Colombia international, as they look to replace Luis Suarez this summer. However, the paper says that representatives from the French outfit told their Premier League counterparts that Los Blancos were close to signing the goalscorer. It seems now that Falcao’s proposed switch to Santiago Bernabeu will only be a matter of time, despite Carlo Ancelotti’s side signing James Rodriguez and renewing Karim Benzema’s contract.
Liverpool Lead Chase to Sign Radamel Falcao In Astonishing Summer Transfer Coup Anfield side could land Colombian to fill Luis Suarez void. Liverpool are reportedly edging ahead of Premier League rivals Man City in the chase for AS Monaco forward Radamel Falcao according to Italian football pundit Mina Rzouki. It's not yet done. Falcao is between Liverpool and City but the former quite a bit in the lead to land the player. What a coup it would be By all accounts Ligue 1 big spenders AS Monaco are concerned they will not manage to adhere to UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines; this despite having sold James Rodriguez to Real Madrid earlier this summer, and are looking to find a prospective interested party for fellow Colombian Falcao. Some sources state that such a move may be a temporary one, with a possible loan deal leading to an outright sale, and it’s a move that may just appeal to Falcao. Liverpool are clearly a side on the rise and Brendan Rodgers has the funds from the sale of Luis Suar ...
Suarez to Barcelona and the 10 most expensive transfers of the summer so far The Uruguay star currently tops the list of the summer's biggest deals to date in a hectic pre-season, but who else has been signed for big money? Despite almost a month of the Transfer Window still remaining, the summer of 2014 has already been quite remarkable. Following Gareth Bale's world-record €100 million move from Tottenham to Real Madrid last year, we have already seen the €80m barrier broken twice this time around. With clubs enjoying greater commercial and broadcast revenues than ever and on the back of the shop window that is the World Cup, it is safe to expect more big signings between now and September. But what have been the most expensive transfers so far? Luis Suarez may have seen his World Cup end in ignominy, but it wasn't long after his time in Brazil that Barcelona paid what is currently the biggest fee of the summer - a staggering €89.3m - to bring the Premier League player of the year to Spain. Not to ...
Nasri-I have made a decision. I made it a while ago but will announce it when the time is right...with the national team I didn't win anything, so it's more easy to take this decision than if we'd just won. something. Monaco claim that Radamel Falcao is not going to Real Madrid. Real Madrid midfielder Àngel Di Maria is poised to join Paris Sain-Germain on loan. Liverpool are set to offer Phillippe Coutinho a bumper New deal before Premier League kicks off. Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is apparently nearing the Old Trafford exit after reportedly holding talks with Napoli over a move to Italy. Alexis Sanchez will miss Arsenal's pre-season camp in Austria this week - because he doesn't have a visa. The Chilean ace was given extra time off following the World Cup and did not join the Gunners squad on their whistle stop tour to New York. Boss Arsene Wenger was hoping to get the chance to finally work with his £35m man today when his squad land in Austria for four days of training. But Sanch ...
Real Madrid have announced their line-up for the game against Manchester United this evening, with Isco as a false nine. The European Champions take on the Premier League outfit in Michigan tonight in front of a sell-out 109,000 crowd. And Los Blancos, as they have throughout their tour of America, have release their starting XI early to the Press. Iker Casillas starts in goal, with Carlo Ancelotti naming an unusual back five of Alvaro Arbeloa, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Nacho and Dani Carvajal. Asier Illarrament, Xabi Alonso and Luka Modric are a midfield three, whilst Gareth Bale and Isco will be in attack. Casillas, Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Nacho; Carvajal, Illarra, Xabi Alonso, Modric; Bale and Isco.
SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: Paul Scholes has urged Louis Van Gaal to buy two defenders – for Manchester United to launch a challenge for the title. Their best years may have been behind them, but when United let Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra depart this summer, they lost three players who had won 16 Premier League titles between them. According to Scholes , who thinks Van Gaal should recruit two new centre-backs, Losing that experience is a big blow for the club. Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is poised for critical talks with Arsene Wenger as doubt lingers over his future. The central defender returned to the club's London Colney HQ earlier this week following his exertions with Belgium at the World Cup. However, Vermaelen didn't travel to Austria with the majority of the first-team squad on Monday. West Ham have opened talks with Samuel Eto'o over a shock move for the veteran striker. Manchester United Give Trial to the 'Next Gareth Bale' Oscar Borg Manchester United have offered a trial to a West Ham youngster who has been dubbed by some as the 'next Gareth Bale'. 16-year-old Oscar Borg is currently undergoing trials with the Old Trafford club, however fellow Premier League outfit Southampton have also let their interest be known in the player, according to the Express. Nicknamed 'Gareth' by several of his youth coaches at West Ham academy after displaying a similar playing style to the 25-year-old Real Madrid superstar, Borg hopes he has just as bright a future ahead of him. Borg plays as a left-sided wing back and will be trying to do enough in his trial to make the transition into the Red Devils notorious youth set-up. Should Borg impress those at United enough where they will decide to bring him in on a permanent deal, he will cost Louis Van Gaal a fee of just £220,000, decided by youth player compensation laws. West Ham have also offered new terms to another highly rated youngst ...
UEFA’s Financial Fair Play laws have changed the beautiful game forever. Introducing rules that dictate transfer spend must be in proportion to profit and loss, the days of exuberant billionaires pumping personal fortunes into Premier League clubs will soon be behind us. Evidence thus far is perhaps yet to suggest this. Real Madrid forked out £87million on a single player, Gareth Bale, only last summer, and Manchester City were only too happy to accept their recent £49million fine from UEFA for breaching FFP. To Sheik royalty, that’s not even loose change. But do not be fooled. The rules of the transfer game, especially in the Premier League, have changed significantly. Although England’s top clubs will continue to spend as lavishly as before, every lucrative acquisition must be offset by an almost as lucrative departure. And of all Premier League clubs, it’s currently Chelsea who are showing their ability to adapt. Whilst title rivals City have felt UEFA’s bite, or at least a slightly vicious ...

Vidal not so soon? You might think Manchester United's new 750 million pound kit deal with Adidas verges on the egregious; Transfer Talk isn't one to judge, but it appears that United aren't keen to come across as easy meat in the transfer market. They're clearly keen to push through a deal with Juventus and Chile's indefatigable Arturo Vidal, but the Mirror says that it won't be that easy. Juventus are seeking 34 million pounds and Louis Van Gaal's new club has to be mindful that their new stash needs also to be distributed elsewhere; a move for Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria may be among those in the offing. The Star has plenty more on this, telling us that the kit cash will be invested post haste -- with Vidal, Di Maria and German star Mats Hummels, who was linked with an Old Trafford move earlier in the week, likely to be lured by United's polyester-fuelled millions. Van Gaal apparently hopes to lure them all to Old Trafford safely in time for the imminent new Premier League season.

To all my friends who think Argentina is a one man army, here is a small synopsis to clear your misconception regarding the Albiceleste. • Javier Mascherano; Leader on the pitch, by far the star for Argentina in this worldcup, one of the best if not the best defensive midfielder in the world. Has been part of Barcelona since 2010 and his graph is always going upward. . Has won almost every tournament at club level. • Angel Di Maria, has been part of Real Madrid stardom since 2010, played a vital role in galacticos claiming La Decima this year. Like Mascherano he has won everything at the offing at club level. • Pablo Zabaleta, by far he was the best right back in Premier League last season, won’t provide Germany the space which they enjoyed against Brazil for sure. • Sergio Augero, ask any Manchester United fan who is he and they will curse him. The last second goal against QPR won citizens a league titile in almost after half a century in 2012. One of the top strikers in the recent history. • ...
Manchester United set for record shirt deal Despite finishing 7th in last season’s Premier League, Manchester United are set to stay top of the earnings table with a shirt dealthat dwarfs the competition both at home and abroad. This season’s kit will be produced by Nike, but the battle is on to secure a deal from 2015 onwards with Manchester United between three of the biggest sportswear producers. Nike had a first option to negotiate a new deal, however that window of exclusivity has now passed and their key rivals Adidas, along with Liverpool sponsors Warrior are all able to discuss terms with United. The figures being talked about could be up to £60 million a year over a ten year period, which would be double what Real Madrid, the European Champions and most successful club in European football history, currently receive from Adidas. United’s current deal, signed ten years ago, is worth £24 million a year. Since the takeover by the Glazers United’s commercial income has went through the roof ...
Over two months, Liverpool had inserted a £100million buyout clause in England slayer Suarez’s contract when he signed a new £220,000-a-week deal six months ago. That is how much the club want in the knowledge that both Real Madrid and Barcelona will move in for the Uruguay international after the World Cup finals. But the £100m clause only applies to rival Premier League clubs. A lesser fee of £70m would be enough to trigger a move abroad. However with both Barca and Madrid wanting Suarez, Liverpool still think they can get £100m in a straight auction between the La Liga rivals. Real Madrid have a wider range of players of on offer, but Liverpool’s astute manager Brendan Rodgers won’t have players foisted upon him.
Barcelona join rivals Real Madrid in race to sign Liverpool and Uruguay star Luis Suarez Jun 20, 2014 22:30 By John Cross The Spanish giants are both looking to sign the Premier League's top scorer, believing that a £70milllion bid will activate a release clause. Real Madrid are already targeting the Liverpool striker, with the Spanish clubs believing he has a £70million release clause in his contract. Suarez’s demolition job on England in the World Cup has made him the hottest property in football. And he last night took a swipe at England boss Roy Hodgson for remarks he made in the build-up to the Group D clash. Suarez said: “It wasn’t revenge, but in England they talked about the injury and the coach had words that annoyed (me). The England coach said I was a proven Premier League player, but not world class. So there is the answer.” His comment seemed to be the opening shot in a bid to move from the Premier League. He admitted he was desperate to score against England, claiming his critics ...
Five Chelsea players face the AXE as Jose Mourinho plans ruthless £75m squad restructure Jose Mourinho will wield his Stamford Bridge axe this summer by selling at least FIVE players in an audacious £75million squad restructure. Below is a list of players, fees and interested clubs that have all been linked with moves away from Chelsea. Fernando Torres - £15m - Interested clubs: Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan It is no secret that Mourinho's patience is wearing thin with Spanish international Fernando Torres. The striker has struggled to impose himself on the Premier League ever since his £50m move from Liverpool. The 30-year-old has only managed 30 goals in 110 appearances for the West London side, and with the new signing Diego Costa's £32m arrival - it appears that Torres' time may be up. Romelu Lukaku - £32m - Interested clubs: Everton, Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Juventus Jose Mourinho's willingness to sell Romelu Lukaku is decision many Chelsea finds find baffling. Tottenham green-light Adebayor sale to finance £32m move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku Reports claim that recently appointed boss Mauricio Pochettino is in favour of wiping Adebayor's extortionate £170,000 per-week wages from the books and remodelling his side around the youthful Belgian. However, Spurs are unlikely to recoup much of the £25m spent on Adebayor and so heavy investment from Chairman Daniel Levy will be needed to meet Chelsea's £32m valuation of the player. Lukaku has been a the centre of fierce speculation in recent weeks, Everton, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are just a few clubs who've been linked with the 21-year-old. Pochettino has first-hand experience of the devastation the Belgian can cause Premier League defences. He netted a total of 15 league goals, including 74th minute strike to sink Pochettino's former side Southampton. Jose Mourinho's addition of Diego Costa and continual links with Edison Cavani has increased the likelihood that Lukaku will be heading for the Stamf ...
Confirmed Spain 23man Squad for Brazil. Surprise, surprise... Nando makes the cut. Vincent Del Bosque has whittled his initial 30 man Spain World Cup squad down to the final 23, cutting seven players from his initial squad. Injury robbed the Spain boss of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, but an embarrassment of riches across the park means that the squad contains some notable omissions. Manchester City pair Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo both miss out, with the latter being omitted in favour of Chelsea forward Fernando Torres. At the back, Del Bosque has kept all four of his initial centre backs, but has cut two of his full backs. Liverpool target Alberto Moreno and Real Madrid full back Daniel Carvajal have both been dropped from the initial squad, with Cesar Azpilicueta staying in as cover for both full back positions. In midfield, Navas and Thiago are joined on the plane home by Bilbao’s Ander Iturraspe, while Premier League trio David Silva, Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla have all made the cu ...
