Manchester United have signed a sponsorship deal with online financial trading company Swissquote, expanding the commercial partnerships that have helped to make the English club one of the richest teams in world soccer. United did not give a value for the deal, the club's first in the sector, but said on Monday it was a multi-year agreement. The Premier League club, 20 times English champions, claim to have 659 million followers around the globe, making the United name attractive to major brands like Chevrolet cars and sportswear group Adidas. Swissquote said the global deal would allow it to use United's popularity in Asia to help it meet its targets for expansion in China. Among benefits from the deal, Swissquote's clients will have a chance to meet United players and get behind the scenes at the Old Trafford stadium. Louis Van Gaal has clashed with Manchester United’s money men by BANNING the club from lining up an exhausting pre-season tour. And the Old Trafford boss is on the brink of a spectacular victory by insisting that the traditional summer tour is done HIS way. Van Gaal will take his stars to the USA in July but they will play three games on one coast only – not on both coasts like last year. The United boss has told the Glazer family, who own United, that he wants a major tilt at winning the Premier League title next season and needs to cut back on the summer itinerary. Van Gaal was horrified at the number of games and coast-to-coast travelling that United’s stars had to endure when he took over last year.
FT: Cambridge United F.C. 0-0 Manchester United. Report: lowest-ranked team remaining in The FA Cup earn a historic draw against the Premier League giants to send the tie back to Old Trafford.
There has been lots of talk this week about whether Radamel Falcao is staying at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season - but there are many more Manchester United players whose futures are uncertain. Eighteen United players who have played in the Premier League for the club are out of contract this summer, or within 18 months. Not many of them have warranted a new deal with their performances this season and I am not surprised there is talk of another big clear-out by manager Louis Van Gaal, rather than a rush to offer them new deals. Since he took charge at United last summer, Van Gaal has got rid of 15 players either permanently or on loan. He has more decisions to make about who stays and who goes as he continues to rebuild his squad, but there are 10 players who I don't think should be offered a new contract. Man Utd set to axe THREE stars as Louis Van Gaal's clear out continues Darren Fletcher, Anders Lindegaard and Tom Cleverley are heading towards the Old Trafford exit door. The Manchester United trio could all be sold this month as boss Louis Van Gaal continues to revolutionise his squad. Fletcher has caught the eye of new West Brom boss Tony Pulis who is plotting a Premier League survival plan for the Baggies. The 31-year-old Scot has battled back from ulcerative colitis to return to first-team action for United but his chances under Van Gaal have been limited. The arrival of Victor Valdes means Lindegaard is simply surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. The Denmark stopper is thought to be prepared to wait until the summer to leave Manchester if the right deal doesn't come his way this month.(Daily Star) -360

Southampton manger Ronald Koeman has revealed that he wasn't surprised by his side's 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Premier League. The Saints claimed a slender three points at Old Trafford thanks to Dusan Tadic's second-half goal, with Koeman keen to stress that he knew his players were capable of matching Louis Van Gaal's men. "We know we have a strong team and that was important in the end of December," said Koeman, according to The Guardian. content continues after the advert "We got a point against Chelsea and the three points against Arsenal. That makes belief in the players. It is what you need if you are not a big club: belief in the players, not afraid of the name or the stadium. "We learned that. I am not surprised we won today. We have organisation. We have 11 clean sheets in 21 games. If we keep the spirit and the organisation, we can keep in front in the table." London - Manchester United will attempt to stave off an assault on their third-place position in the Premier League table when they welcome closest pursuers Southampton to Old Trafford on Sunday. United have gone 10 games without defeat since losing 1-0 at joint-leaders Manchester City on November 2, but they have taken only six points from a possible 12 after drawing three of their last four matches. It has prevented Louis Van Gaal's side from fully exploiting recent slip-ups by co-leaders Chelsea, who they trail by nine points, and has allowed Southampton to close to within one point. After a run of four straight defeats in late November and early December, including a 2-1 loss in the reverse fixture, Ronald Koeman's side have won three and drawn one of their last four games.

Man Utd to sign goalkeeper Valdes 7 January 2015 Victor Valdes spent 12 years at La Liga side Barcelona Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has accepted an offer to join Manchester United. The Spain international, who has been training with United in his bid to recover from a serious knee injury, has agreed an 18-month contract. Valdes, 32, won six La Liga and three Champions League titles with Barcelona, before leaving at the end of last season when his contract expired. The deal could lead to reserve keeper Anders Lindegaard leaving Old Trafford. It also poses a question about the future of 24-year-old first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea, who was the club's player of the year last season and has excelled again this term. His contract is due to expire in 2016, although senior United sources have said they were relaxed about him signing an extension to that deal. While Chelsea and Manchester City slug it out at the top of the Premier League, Louis Van Gaal's Old Trafford revolution gathers ever more momentum in the red half of Manchester. The Dutchman endured a tricky start to his reign but seven wins in eight league games have put United hot on the heels of the pacesetters. If the current United side can emulate the teams of Alex Ferguson who were renowned for a strong second half of the season, Van Gaal's men could yet have their say in the destiny of the title. United visit Tottenham Hotspur in a lunchtime kickoff today as the games continue to flow thick and fast over the festive period. 'The signs have been good in recent weeks,' midfielder Michael Carrick told the club website (ManUtd.com). There’s Virus In The Camp! Louis Van Gaal Admits Illness Has Struck Old Trafford Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has revealed the presence of a virus in the camp which has already claimed Belgian pair Adnan Januzaj and Marouane Fellaini. Van Gaal's men put Newcastle United to the sword at Old Trafford yesterday to strengthen their grip on third place in the Premier League. But there will be no rest for the Red Devils, who are due to head to White Hart Lane to play Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow. And Van Gaal, providing an injury update, admitted that there has been a virus going around the club, which has affected some players more than others. "Januzaj is ill. It is a virus that is now running in the air", he said "The virus has approached a lot of players, but for him, it was too much. "Also Fellaini… I think it is the Belgium virus! Will he be ready for Spurs? No he is ill. "Fellaini and Adnan are not ready." The Dutchman, who is waiting to discover the extent of an injury picked up in training b ...

Manchester United could now have a strong chance of signing Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman in January due to the Serie A club's early elimination from the Champions League, Old Trafford sources have told ESPN. Strootman's season only began last month following his return from a cruciate knee ligament injury sustained in March, and Roma's failure to progress from their group in Europe has led United to believe they have significant leverage to do an earlier deal for the 24-year-old. United's interest in the Netherlands international is long-standing and has only increased following the arrival of his former national coach, Louis Van Gaal, at the Premier League club in the summer. The knee injury Strootman picked up not only ruled him out of the World Cup but also prevented any immediate possibility of a transfer following Van Gaal's appointment, although it had been anticipated at Old Trafford that a deal would eventually take place at the end of the 2014-15 campaign. There had been extensive preliminary ...

Thierry Henry, Gary Neville, and Jamie Redknapp discuss Manchester Uniteds recent struggles in the Premier League and the lack of fear teams now have when visiting Old Trafford.
5 key stats from Liverpool FC's defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday. 1. Sterling created chaos Whilst Raheem Sterling had most of Liverpool's best chances at Old Trafford, the England international also created the most on the day for either side too, with four. The top creative players across Europe average around three per game, so Sterling can be pleased with his efforts against United. I often note in these reviews that Sterling and Henderson link up well, and this was yet another match were each created a chance for the other. 2. Coutinho danced past the Red Devils Liverpool's Brazilian international completed a mammoth seven take-ons against Manchester United; for context, the continent's top dribblers average around four to five per game. Coutinho put this skill to particularly good use early in the second half when he glided past Juan Mata in a move that ended in a shot at goal by Dejan Lovren. 3. Moreno: master of tackles The top players for tackles tend to be central midfielders, and they tend to a ...

Pastore had previously been linked with a move to England, with a few Premier League outfits keen on nailing down a deal. Man United v Liverpool rivalry in quotes Manchester United host Liverpool on Sunday as one of world football's bitterest rivalries is renewed at Old Trafford. Unlike last season's corresponding fixture, United are ahead of Liverpool again in the Premier League table and victory will extend their advantage up to 10 points. Here's a quick look back at some of the telling remarks that have helped add fuel to the rivalry's fire over the years: Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson on Liverpool: 'My greatest challenge is not what's happening at the moment, my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their f*g perch. And you can print that.' Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard on the magnitude of the rivalry: “Maybe Barca and Madrid is up there, but, for me, Liverpool versus Man U is the biggest game because the Premier League is the biggest league in the world and these are the two most successful clubs." Manchester United preparing £16m bid for Atletico defender Godin Offer well short of £28.5m release clause, Chelsea and Liverpool also keen Manchester United are stepping up their interest in Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, and are set to test the waters with a £16m bid for the Uruguayan. The defender has a release clause in his contract of £28.5m, so the Red Devils may have to come back with an improved offer. Premier League rivals Liverpool, who United face this weekend, and Chelsea are also monitoring the situation closely. United have struggled for consistency this season, both in terms of results and for a consistent starting eleven. Injuries have ravaged the Old Trafford club, particularly in defence. Manager Louis Van Gaal is set to turn to Godin to strengthen the backline. Godin joined Atletico in 2010 from fellow Spanish side Villarreal, and has made almost 125 league appearances for the club. He also has 85 caps for Uruguay.

For all the talk of Manchester United’s revival in recent weeks almost all of their Premier League victories at home have been unconvincing. But against Hull City at Old Trafford on Saturday they produced their most accomplished performance of the season, and it bodes well for Louis Van Gaal’s evolution of this side. Against the likes of Crystal Palace, West Ham and Everton United haven’t effectively controlled matches on home turf, despite acquiring the points on all three occasions. That trio of victories came virtue of a world class-selection of players pushing the result over the line in the face of opposition frustration. On all three occasions endeavour and a little bit of luck were required to reach the desired result. In short, there was a lack of domination. After dismantling Hull, Van Gaal was at pains to use that word regularly in his post-match analysis, and with just cause. “We have dominated the game from the first minute to the last minute,” the Dutchman told reporters. “It was ...

ManUtd.com's match report from Manchester United vs Hull City on 29 November 2014 in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
VS WILL BE POSTPONED DUE TO INJURIES If Daley Blind, Michael Carrick and David De Gea are all forced to miss Saturday’s Premier League game at Arsenal through injury then Manchester United should be allowed to request the game is postponed. Having any player injured on international duty is unfortunate – as Liverpool will testify. But to have three of their starting XI all crocked while on European Championship qualifying duty in the past few days has been spectacularly unlucky. If you think this is ridiculous, imagine if it happens to your club. Now you can see the logic, right? Stop hating United, and think about this as a ruling that could benefit football, and would possibly help all clubs. Blind (knee ligaments), Carrick (groin) and De Gea (finger) have all picked up injuries away from Manchester United, and yet it’s Old Trafford boss Louis Van Gaal who has to pick up the pieces. So it’s about time the clubs who suffer were given some sort of compensation, other than a token financial gesture ...
David De Gea is aware of rumours linking him with Real Madrid but is ignoring them as he feels 'loved' at Manchester United. The 24-year-old knows all about the pressures and prestige of competing in the Spanish capital, having moved to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011. He initially struggled to get to grips with the Premier League, with concerns raised as to his ability to deal with the physicality of life in England. De Gea has, however, silenced his critics and emerged as one of United’s most consistent performers and one of European football’s top goalkeepers. Unsurprisingly, his efforts have been noted back in his homeland, with Real seeking a long-term successor to club icon Iker Casillas. De Gea is reading little into the speculation, though, as he remains under contract until 2016 and is thoroughly enjoying his time at United. He told La Sexta: "It is difficult to say whether a bid will be made by Real, because of all the rumours that appear in the press. "In Manchester I feel wanted. ...

For the best part of three months, the rest of the Premier League has been waiting for Chelsea to be confronted with some bad news. On the pitch, Jose Mourinho's men are top of the table, unbeaten and with no serious rival in sight. Off it, Thursday provided the most emphatic indication yet that the wait for their competitors could be a long one. The announcement of Chelsea's annual financial results has rarely been a proud moment at Stamford Bridge during the Roman Abramovich era. Many of the releases over the past 10 years have followed a familiar pattern: heavy losses accompanied by vague reassertions of a "long-term plan" and seemingly far-fetched promises that one of English football's most consistently decadent clubs would one day become "self-sufficient". But a profit of €23.2 million and record turnover of €402.9m for the year ending June 30 suggests that day may finally have arrived – a particularly timely revelation, given that the €62.2m loss absorbed in 2012-13 had sent the Premier Lea ...
Former Manchester United forward Denis Law predicts Louis Van Gaal will have the Old Trafford club challenging for the Premier League title and Champions League qualification every season. (Daily Express) Thoughts??
Moyes takes over at Real Sociedad Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has agreed to take over as head coach of Real Sociedad until 30 June 2016, the La Liga club announced in a statement on Monday. Moyes, 51, replaces Jagoba Arrasate, who was sacked by the San Sebastian-based club on November 2 after a poor start to the season, the club said on their website (www.realsociedad.com). Moyes replaced the retiring Alex Ferguson at United on a six-year deal in May last year but left in April after less than a season. In 51 matches in charge at Old Trafford, the club won 27, drew nine and lost 15 in all competitions. Moyes made his reputation as a top-flight coach in his previous job at Everton, who finished in the top six in the Premier League four times under the Scot. They qualified for the Champions League in 2005 and reached the 2009 FA Cup final, where they lost 2-1 to Chelsea after beating Manchester United in the semifinals. Sociedad are 15th in La Liga with nine points from 11 matches following ...
Some may associate Old Trafford more with prawn sandwich eaters than hearty singers, but this weekend's Premier League action appears to show that those inside Manchester United's stadium know how to belt out a song better than most. In the wake of Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho saying he felt h…
Are you a glass half-full or half-empty Manchester United fan? I've spoken to several of each both at and since Sunday's derby vs. City. It was another defeat, but what's new? United now lose Manchester derbies -- it's four in a row now -- and the majority of fans didn't expect any more than two points from the club's last two matches (they got one, vs. Chelsea). How times have changed. Next week marks 20 years since United destroyed City 5-0 at Old Trafford. Fans relish the memory of Andrei Kanchelskis, who scored a hat-trick, steamrollering their Manchester rivals, though former City player Steve Lomas recalls an amusing pre-game incident when his manager Brian Horton opted to take on the then-champions. "Brian sat us down and said: 'You know what, I'm fed up of going to United and being negative. We're going to attack them.' He'd seen Barcelona put four past United a week earlier in the Champions League and thought we could do the same. We had two out and out wingers ... and we were three down in no ti ...
Manchester United are back in the midst of another defensive injury crisis amid fears that Marcos Rojo could be out for six weeks with a dislocated shoulder. Rojo was carried off on a stretcher during United’s Manchester derby defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and needed oxygen at one point. Further rests have confirmed the defender’s injury is a full dislocation and the recovery time could be six weeks or even longer. The exact timescale will depend on whether Rojo has torn or merely stretched the ligaments that usually hold the shoulder in place. Rojo’s father appeared to confuse matters last night when he told a TV station in Argentina: ‘The injury is not too severe. He will miss two or three games.’ However, senior sources at Old Trafford confirmed yesterday that the injury was a dislocation and it seems improbable the £16million signing could recover that quickly. This means United manager Louis Van Gaal will have to plan for the coming weeks of the campaign without ...
A new month begins this weekend with a meeting of sides who share a London borough. Club historian Rick Glanvill and club statistician Paul Dutton supply the derby details… TALKING POINTS Welcome home to Chelsea’s brilliant travelling fans, publicly hailed for their vociferous support at Old Trafford and New Meadow by Didier Drogba as well as an emotional former Blue, Juan Mata. The undefeated league leaders and top scorers are seeking to extend a perfect start to the domestic campaign at Stamford Bridge. This is our first Barclays Premier League game on the Fulham Road in almost a month and, for once, Jose Mourinho and his side have the chance to extend the advantage over the Citizens to nine points before they tackle the Manchester derby on Sunday. City lost again at home to Newcastle in midweek and have recorded just two clean sheets in their last 13 matches. The team closest to the Blues’ coat-tails, Southampton, also face a test at Hull City, who have drawn with Arsenal and Liverpool in success ...
Manchester United and Premier League record signing, Angel Di Maria, has hit back at claims he joined Old Trafford for money.
Robin Van Persie’s equaliser deep into injury time gave Manchester United a point and kept Chelsea within range of their Premier League title rivals after a dramatic Old Trafford finale. Didier Drogba’s header, glanced in off Van Persie early in the second half, looked to have extended Chelsea’s lea…

Jose Mourinho threatens to TRIP up Angel Di Maria during Chelsea’s match against Manchester United Like and share our page Jose Mourinho has threatened to trip up Angel Di Maria if the Manchester United winger gets too close during Chelsea’s Premier League match at Old Trafford today. The Blues boss – who took out singer Olly Murs during a Soccer Aid charity match at United’s ground in June – joked that he would do the same to his former player if the Argentine tried to dribble past the technical area. Speaking about tripping up Murs, Mourinho said: ‘Did you see the tackle I made? If I could do the same on Sunday, I would. ‘And it’s the same referee. If I see Di Maria in front of me dribbling, BOOM!’
Did you know Chelsea are the only club in the Premier League era to have a better record than Man United in PL head-to- heads? The Blues have won 15 (six at Old Trafford) to the Red Devils' 13 in 44 meetings between the two.
I WON’T PROTECT COSTA AGAINST Manchester United – MOURINHO Jose Mourinho says that he is prepared to take a gamble on Diego Costa for Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday – provided that the striker can come through a training session unscathed. Costa has missed the Blues’ last two matches against Crystal Palace and Maribor after returning from Spain duty with a groin problem and then contracting a virus which saw him hospitalised. But Mourinho revealed on Friday that Costa still had a “little chance” of making an appearance at Old Trafford and the Portuguese insists that he would not hesitate to include the Premier League’s joint-top scorer in his squad if he proves himself fit enough. “I don’t protect before a Man United game unless he cannot play,” Mourinho told reporters, “but, if there is a chance of play, Old Trafford is not a place to protect players. If he is ready to play, then he plays. “He has to show [on Saturday] in the training session tha ...
WE HAVE HISTORY Chelsea are seeking to extend our unbeaten run against Manchester United to seven games in all competitions. The Red Devils have won six of their last 22 Premier League games against the Blues. In May 2005 Gary Neville, now a highly impressive TV analyst of the game, bore a grimace as he lined up with his teammates in a guard of honour at Old Trafford for John Terry et al, the newly crowned league champions. Performance-wise it was a comfortable evening for the Blues, though Sir Alex Ferguson’s side opened the scoring on seven minutes through Ruud van Nistelrooy, bundling past Carlo Cudicini from close range. That was actually the Dutchman’s first league goal since before Christmas. The Londoners controlled the game after that, Tiago equalising 10 minutes later with a spectacular spank from distance that left goalkeeper Roy Carroll grasping at air. A typically clever chip by Eidur Gudjohnsen 15 minutes after the break put the visitors ahead and, following Joe Cole’s tap in after Fran ...
How good is this more entertaining Chelsea team? . . . Chelsea romped to victory against Maribor on Tuesday night in their best European performance of the season. Their 6-0 win gives them the ascendancy in their group, despite drawing at home on the opening day. Chelsea are looking good and have won all but one of their eight Premier League games, opening up a five point lead over Manchester City in the process. On Tuesday night Sky’s pundits waxed lyrical about this Chelsea side, but how good are they? The major additions this summer were Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa. This was twofold. Firstly it turned Chelsea’s midfield into an elite one with Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas at the base, providing solidity, strength and with Fabregas a great deal of finesse and technique. The balance looked very good and both players have become incredibly dominant on the ball. Fabregas and Matic are both in the top five passers in the Premier League this season with 87 and 70 passes per game respectively. Last se ...
The Premier League leaders will be without injured strike duo Diego Costa and Loic Remy for Sunday's trip to Old Trafford.
You haven't seen the best of me yet, vows £27m man Shaw after uncertain display against West Brom Luke Shaw admits he has struggled to rediscover his Southampton form for United that prompted the Reds to splash £27m on the left back in the summer. Manager Louis Van Gaal gave the green light to the deal following his appointment after the groundwork was done in the David Moyes era. The player was also scouted during Sir Alex Ferguson’s finals seasons. The teenager had attracted interest at the Saints from the Reds and Chelsea and United had to put together a big package to beat off the Londoner’s challenge for his signature. But it has been a tough baptism for the 19-year-old since moving Old Trafford after the World Cup where he played in England’s final group match in Brazil against Costa Rica. He was publicly declared unfit by Van Gaal on United’s pre-season tour of America and then suffered a hamstring injury on the eve of the Premier League season. Shaw has battled back to feature as the Dut ...
United are planning a £20m move to bring Barcelona defender Gerard Pique back to Old Trafford. The 27-year-old moved to the Nou Camp in 2008. United will offer Real Madrid's 27-year-old anchorman Sami Khedira a contract worth £5.5m a year to try and beat Chelsea and Arsenal in the queue. Liverpool will compete with Juventus and several Spanish sides for the signature of Porto's 17-year-old midfielder Ruben Neves. Former Real Madrid striker Raul, whose last club was Qatari side Al-Saad, is set to sign a deal with North American Soccer League side New York Cosmos. The 37-year-old will also have a role at the club's academy. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that he would like to manage in Spain one day as he prepares to face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday. Tottenham playmaker Erik Lamela, 22, believes that Spurs can secure a top-four Premier League finish to qualify for next season's Champions League despite their 4-1 weekend defeat by champions Manchester City. CSKA Moscow stri ...
Liverpool and England forward Raheem Sterling is set to sign a new £100,000-a-week contract, which will be a blow to Real Madrid's hopes of signing the 19-year-old. However, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti insists the club do not need to sign Sterling because they already have some of the best young players in Europe. Real are preparing a January bid for Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj, 19, with the Spanish giants ready to offer as much as £23m. Carroll has scored two goals in 15 Premier League games for West Ham Newcastle United could offer striker Andy Carroll, 25, an end to his West Ham misery by moving to re-sign him in January. Newcastle want to cut short summer signing Jamaal Lascelles' loan to Nottingham Forest as they continue to leak goals. The 20-year- old defender signed for the Magpies in the summer before he rejoined Forest. Arsenal have opened discussions over a £6.4m deal for 21-year-old Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. Arsenal are also tracking the progress of Ipswich ...
After yet another lengthy interruption, welcome back to a Premier League campaign in which Chelsea are now the only unbeaten team (Charlton, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City are undefeated in the lower tiers). The league leaders have won two and drawn one on the road so far, but now face testing trips over the next two weekends, with a home Champions League tie in between. The clash at Old Trafford next Sunday may attract the admiring glances but this weekend retribution is demanded and London pride is at stake. The loss in this corner of south London last March cost the Blues dearly and the fact it was self-inflicted only added to the pain. It is the only defeat in our last 15 matches against teams from the capital. Nineteen points from a possible 21 is the second finest start to a season of the Premier League era. The best was also made by Jose Mourinho’s Blues in 2005/06. Back then no points at all were dropped until the 10th match, a draw at Everton. John Terry is due to captain Chelsea from the s ...
Is David Moyes set to make a return to the Premier League? The Former Manchester United boss says he is now ready to return to football management after his sacking at Old Trafford. Moyes confirms that clubs have been in touch about his availability but says he will know "when the right club comes along". Watch the full interview on Saturday's Football Focus from 12:10 BST - on BBC One, BBC One HD and the BBC Sport website.
LONDON, Oct 13, 2014 (AFP) Alex Ferguson Backs Louis Van Gaal's Major Spending Spree. Van Gaal was hired to clean up the mess left by David Moyes, whose brief reign as Ferguson's successor at Old Trafford ended with the club at their lowest ebb for two decades. United responded by hiring Van Gaal and handing the Dutch coach significant funds to breathe new life into the team. Van Gaal splashed out over £150 million ($240 million) on Angel Di Maria, who cost a club record £59 million, Radamel Falcao, Ander Herrera, Marcus Rojo and Luke Shaw. The new signings have helped United into the Premier League's top four already despite some indifferent performances, and Ferguson, who retired after winning the title in 2013, is in no doubt that fresh faces were needed. Referring to the capture of Di Maria from Real Madrid, he told MUTV: "When you can identify ability like that for Manchester United, they have the resources to do that - fees I never quite equalled but they needed a big injection this year." On the ...

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has labelled Sir Alex Ferguson a 'f* p*' after revealing the truth surrounding his exit from Old Trafford. The Republic of Ireland international left the Red Devil in 2005 to join Celtic despite being one of the club's most successful captains as he won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League under Ferguson. But in his new book, The Second Half, Keane reveals that, following an argument with assistant manager Carlos Queiroz and a controversial interview on MUTV his relationship with Ferguson broke down and that the veteran coach threatened to rip up his contract. "I said to Ferguson, ‘Can I play for somebody else? And he said, ‘Yeah you can, cos we’re tearing up your contract’," he writes. "So I thought, ‘All right – I’ll get fixed up.’ I knew there’d be clubs in for me when the news got out. I said, ‘Yeah – I think we have come to the end.’ "I just thought, ‘F* p*’ – and I stood up an went ‘Yeah. I’m o ...
Roy Keane believes David Moyes inherited a weak dressing room at Manchester United. The Scot was sacked by the Red Devils in April, just 11 months after being named as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford. Moyes struggled to land his top targets in the transfer market in 2012, whilst failing to win nine of their 17 Premier League home games during his reign. The former Everton man also appeared to lose the United dressing room, with Rio Ferdinand a notable critic of the sacked manager. But former Red Devils captain Keane sympathised with Moyes in his new autobiography, ‘The Second Half’, pointing the finger at the United players. “I wonder about the current United dressing room,” said Keane. “When a manager like Sir Alex Ferguson is replaced, the new man needs a helping hand along the way. “Does that mean every player should like the new manager or his coaching staff, or love his new sessions and everything about him? No. “I look at the current players, and they should have been d ...
Colombian striker Radamel Falcao on Monday expressed a desire to remain at Manchester United beyond the end of his loan spell after opening his account for the club against Everton. The 28-year-old scored a close-range winner in United’s 2-1 Premier League victory on Sunday- his first goal since signing on a season-long loan from Monaco. United will reportedly have to pay around Sh5.84billion next year to make the move permanent, but Falcao says he already has designs on a long-term stay at Old Trafford
De Gea THOUGHT ABOUT QUITTING UNITED Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea admitted he considered quitting Old Trafford after a difficult initiation into the Premier League. De Gea was heavily scrutinised during his debut season with United, having arrived from Atletico Madrid as a £17.8million replacement for Edwin van der Sar in 2011. The Spaniard's physique and decision making were brought into question, while a dip in form saw him axed by Alex Ferguson in favour of understudy Anders Lindegaard. De Gea - winner of United's Player of the Year Award last term - has gone on to silence his critics and in a big way after singlehandedly denying Everton victory in a man-of-the-match display on Sunday. The 23-year-old stopped a first-half penalty before producing a stunning save to flick the ball over the crossbar in the final minute of injury time as United won 2-1. Looking back at his early struggles, De Gea conceded he was forced to think about a return to Spain, but feels he is better for the experien ...

Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj made quite the impression at Old Trafford last season. Despite being just 18-years-old, the youngster was quickly seen as the shining light in a turbulent campaign under David Moyes. His brace at Sunderland was probably the standout moment for Manchester United fans in an extremely forgetful season, but the youngster - now 19 - has endured some sort of second season syndrome so far this term. Of course, we're still in the early stages of the season, but Januzaj's progress suddenly looks to have stood still after a quite incredible rise under the previous regime. It's not necessarily the teenager's fault, though. Yet to start a competitive game under Van Gaal, Januzaj just hasn't been given the opportunities to impress. And when he's entered the proceedings, he's struggled to make an impression on the game, often looking out of sorts. Even in the Capital One Cup - a game Manchester United fans will want to quickly forget - Januzaj only arrived on the pitch after 20 ...

Wenger: Ronaldo, not Drogba, was my biggest regret The Arsenal boss admits the fact that the Portuguese superstar ended up at rivals Manchester United "still hurts" and reveals he would have loved to manage the Chelsea legend 18 Sep 2014 16:00:00 Arsene Wenger has revealed his biggest regret as Arsenal manager was failing to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting in 2003. Ronaldo ultimately signed for Manchester United in a deal worth just over £12 million and has gone on to achieve global superstardom at Old Trafford and Real Madrid, as well as being voted the best player in the world in 2008 and 2013. The Portuguese also won three consecutive Premier League titles and a Champions League crown with United between 2006 and 2009 while Arsenal were trophyless over the same period, and Wenger admits he wishes he had acted differently. "My biggest regret, I was so close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo," Wenger revealed in a Huawei question and answer session. "And not only did I not get him, but he signed for Man ...
Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola confirmed today that Manchester United wanted to buy a number of his players this summer but said that the Old Trafford club couldn't afford them and they didn't want to leave for the Premier League anyway.
When Manchester United paid Arsenal £24 million for Robin Van Persie in August 2012, eyebrows were raised because of the Dutch striker's advancing years and checkered injury record. Not to mention the fact the Red Devils didn't appear to require another forward; they had more pressing concerns, such as recruiting a new top-class central midfielder, after all. Ferguson wouldn't usually have given the green light to such a deal - but Van Persie was the Premier League's best striker at the time and Manchester United had been beaten to the title months earlier by local rivals Manchester City by virtue of goal difference. Keen to make sure that wouldn't happen again, and knowing this would be his final season in charge of the Red Devils, Ferguson went all in and brought Van Persie to Old Trafford - fully aware, surely, that within a few seasons the striker would have entered the early stages of decline. Van Persie enjoyed dream debut campaign Van Persie enjoyed a magnificent debut campaign with Manchester Uni ...

vious 4 Sep 12, 2014 09:00:00 The new season began in disarray at Old Trafford but following a £150m spending spree Louis Van Gaal has finally been given the tools to revive the Premier League's fallen giant COMMENT By Peter Staunton By the time the transfer window closed at the start of this month Manchester United promised to be a very different team to the one which had started the season so ineffectually. Their opening few matches had been pitiful. For those few hours before their players left on international duty, however, the stars briefly aligned. Radamel Falcao posed at Carrington with his new Manchester United No. 9 shirt before departing immediately for a friendly match in Miami. Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo were added but have not yet played while Angel Di Maria has, only once, in a hotch-potch team beset by concerns over form and injury. Radamel Falcao has admitted that his move to Old Trafford was months in the making and wasn’t the deadline day panic buy that many assumed it was. Rumours of a possible move to United only surfaced in the early hours of Monday morning. Despite not being linked with a move to United, Falcao claims that he had been in negotiations with the recently deposed Premier League champions for many months. “I am very proud to be at Manchester United, we have been in talks with the club for some months and, in the end, we were able to reach an agreement with Monaco on the last day of the transfer deadline.” [Source: Daily Mail]
Mike Phelan feels part of the club's identity has been broken with Danny Welbeck's departure to Arsenal. Welbeck 23, came through United's famed youth system but joined the Gunners for £16m on deadline day. "Danny Welbeck has been part of United's identity and that has been broken, what will happen in the future now, nobody knows but that thread has been broken now." Phelan believes the big-money arrivals at Old Trafford could suggest a change of philosophy at the club. "There is always the start of something and maybe this is the start of a new way of doing things at Manchester United and maybe that is the way football is going, "Is it better to look at the instant rather than the future? It is a difficult one because youth is always the future, we all have to start somewhere and you just hope that product of youth can develop in the Premier League." [Source: BBCSport]
Report: Shinji Kagawa returns to Borussia Dortmund on permanent transfer German outfit Bild is reporting Manchester United have sold Shinji Kagawa back to Borussia Dortmund after two miserable seasons on the sidelines at Old Trafford. Fellow German paper Kicker is corroborating that story. According to Bild, Kagawa has signed for his former club Dortmund for $10.5 million on a four-year contract. It would be a great bit of business for Dortmund, who sold their playmaker to United for nearly triple that value just two summers ago. The report says Kagawa has postponed his medical with a few financial details still to iron out in his deal, but that the medical should be completed “quickly.” The report says the deal will be completed by tomorrow. Kagawa was a creative force at Westfalenstadion before his move to Manchester United, but he spent his two seasons at Old Trafford largely on the bench, if that. He made just 38 Premier League appearances for United as Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, and Louis v ...
Stoke City registered their first Premier League victory in Manchester as Mame Biram Diouf's fine solo effort stunned the champions. Man City 0-1 Stoke Diouf 58′ The Senegal international and Former United striker raced 70 yards before slotting under Joe Hart. The hosts could have had a late penalty but Yaya Toure was booked for diving. Stoke had lost all 12 previous league matches at the Etihad Stadium and Old Trafford and manager Mark Hughes will savour this victory at his former club. The odds were stacked against the visitors who had not even scored at Manchester City in the Premier League By contrast, Manuel Pellegrini's men had failed to hit the net in just one of their last 70 home matches and the Chilean started with Sergio Aguero, who had taken just 23 seconds to score off the bench against Liverpool, up front. The Potters had failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 12 league matches but a resolute performance from Hughes's side saw them do just that and Diouf's second-half strike capped a . ...
A couple of papers are suggesting that Sunderland are close to landing Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates on a season-long loan. However, if Coates does join, it would mean that Gus Poyet cannot get his Anfield team-mate Fabio Borini on a similar deal, as Premier League rules forbid clubs from taking more than one loan player from any one club. Sunderland remain interested in Borini but the move has dragged on for some time and Poyet is said to want an answer in the next couple of days or he will look elsewhere. Manchester United are set to sign Angel Di Maria today after agreeing a fee with Real Madrid, and there is quite a bit of speculation this morning about who may follow the Argentine to Old Trafford. The Independent writes that Arturo Vidal of Juventus is their top midfield target in a possible £34million deal, although it is reported that the club’s concerns about his fitness are so great that it may require a complex, appearance-based contract. There are plenty of interesting stories in today ...
Premier League - Sunderland v Manchester United preview: No debut for Rojo Eurosport - Sun, 24 Aug 2014 07:01 BST It turns out that the appointment of Louis Van Gaal was not enough to reverse Manchester United’s fortunes, as the miserable opening day defeat to Swansea highlighted. The eccentric Dutchman must decide whether to opt for a 3-5-2 formation – a system binned after 45 minutes at Old Trafford – or revert to a four-man defence as his side travel to Sunderland for Sunday’s clash. With United’s four main rivals for a top four spot claiming maximum points at the weekend, they can ill-afford another meek showing. Sunderland, on the other hand, bagged a point from their opening encounter with West Brom as Sebastian Larsson struck late to secure a 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns.
Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal is keen to find buyers for Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley. Van Gaal is ready to ditch Cleverley and Kagawa, both of whom are unlikely to play a part under the Dutchman. England international Cleverley suffered a wretched season under former Old Trafford boss David Moyes, making just 18 Premier League starts for United and scoring just one goal. Kagawa, meanwhile, has struggled to live up to expectations since his £17m arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2012.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has denied reports that Angel Di Maria was left out of Friday's Spanish Super Cup 1-0 second leg defeat at Atletico Madrid because the Manchester United target is about to leave the La Liga club. - Three Points: Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid - Lowe: Can Atletico repeat as champions? But the Blancos boss did admit that Sami Khedira -- who might also be of interest to the Old Trafford outfit as well as fellow Premier League club Arsenal -- was being allowed to leave the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Ancelotti was speaking after a lacklustre Madrid side were outbattled and outplayed by a super-spirited Atletico team, who went ahead early through new centre-forward Mario Mandzukic and deserved to hold on to win 2-1 on aggregate even after coach Diego Simeone was sent to the stands. The Italian coach told his post-match news conference that it had been a sporting decision not to include Di Maria in his 18-man squad, but Khedira had not been selected as he was close to leaving th ...
Cardiff City are setting their sights on a new defensive transfer target after Manchester United decided to keep Michael Keane at Old Trafford for the new season. The Bluebirds were hopeful of securing a loan deal for the 21-year-old centre-half as they looked to strengthen their defence ahead of the transfer window closing on September 1. But after United’s 2-1 opening-day Premier League defeat to Swansea City, Van Gaal has opted to keep the youngster in his thoughts. United, having parted company with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, are short of defensive numbers, and Van Gaal sees Keane as a vital squad member. He was full of praise for the England U-21 international during United’s summer tour. Despite the setback, it is thought Bluebirds’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may still be looking elsewhere, having watched potential targets in the UK and Europe over the past month. If they were to recruit a new defender, it would Cardiff’s ninth signing of the summer after Javi Guerra, Fede ...
Sturridge's streak, Van Gaal laid bare & Aguero tops scoring charts - Opta's Weekend in Numbers Van Gaal HAS IT ALL TO DO So the International Champions Cup isn't quite the barometer that some people thought it was. Manchester United's serene progress to victory in the United States in July was given a context injection as Swansea City left Old Trafford with all three points on Saturday lunchtime. No team scored more than twice on Saturday and Sunday and if neither Burnley nor Chelsea score three or more on Monday night it will be the first time since 1912 that no team has scored three on the opening weekend. 102 years of hurt. It's not all doom and gloom for Manchester United. There have been three instances in Premier League history of a team losing their opening game and going onto win the league, with United the successful team in each instance. Leicester new boy Leonardo Ulloa scored on his Premier League debut and in doing so became only the fifth player with a surname starting with the letter 'U' t ...

Here, Sportsmail looks at the Premier League's top 10 strikers in terms of minutes-per-goal: 10. Ian Wright Goals: 113, minutes played, 17781, minutes per goal: 157.4 Now more accustomed with your television box, Ian Wright was once a force to be reckoned with in the six-yard box. Born in east London, Wright began his career with Crystal Palace and enjoyed his most productive years at Arsenal. He also had a spell with West Ham in the top flight. 9. Luis Suarez Goals: 47, minutes played: 7242, minutes per goal: 154.1 He may divide opinion, but Luis Suarez has been Liverpool's goal machine since joining the club from Ajax in 2011. The Uruguay international was the Reds' most expensive signing until the arrival of Andy Carroll just days later, and it is fair to say that Suarez has proved better value for money... 8. Van Gaal rues United performance Louis Van Gaal was disappointed with his Manchester United side's disjointed display after Swansea won 2-1 to gatecrash his first Premier League match at Old Trafford. Ki Sung-yueng stunned the expectant United fans by handing the visitors a first-half lead, before newly appointed captain Wayne Rooney scooped an overhead kick home from close range to level the scores after the break. But just when United were expected to go on and secure the victory Gylfi Sigurdsson bundled the past David De Gea, who should have done better, to get Van Gaal's reign off to a losing start. "We didn't reach the level we have shown in the past matches and that is disappointing because this is the most important match," Van Gaal told BT Sport 1. "We were disappointing in defence and we are disappointed with ourselves and that's why we lost today." The Dutch boss, who has won league titles with every club side he has managed so far in his career, quickly batted away suggestions that the opening- ...
Premier League - Paper Round: Welbeck linked with shock destination Welbeck targeted by Hull: Hull City are set to make a record-breaking bid to sign Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, reports the Daily Mirror. Welbeck will start the new season as United's third choice striker, behind Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie, and his chances of seeing regular first-team action are limited. Hull boss Steve Bruce is after a replacement for Shane Long and is hoping Louis Van Gaal will agree to cash in on the England forward. The Tigers will expect to pay around £14 million for Welbeck. This could be a good move for Welbeck, who needs to be playing regular football at this stage of his career. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen at United, and a move elsewhere appears to be the obvious solution. That said, Van Gaal may be unwilling to offload a player he is likely to view as a valuable squad player, especially if Javier Hernandez is on his way out of Old Trafford.

Phil Neville: Van Gaal CAN WIN TITLE FOR MAN U AFTER MOYES 'DISASTER'. Phil Neville has accepted his share of responsibility for Manchester United's disastrous 2013-14 Premier League campaign under former boss David Moyes but expects the club to bounce back and win the title under new coach Louis Van Gaal. Neville, who confirmed midweek he would not be working at Old Trafford in 2014-15, was on Moyes's coaching staff as United finished seventh in the standings - 22 points adrift of champions and arch-rivals Manchester City. Moyes paid the ultimate price for United's failure after he was sacked in May but Neville said the Scot was not the only man at fault for the club's poor performances. "I was involved last year and last year was an absolute disaster," he said. "It was an absolute disaster from start to finish we must all take responsibility, not just David Moyes. I take responsibility and so does everyone involved." Van Gaal has since taken charge, guiding the club to five consecutive pre-season wins o ...
It can become tiring hearing claims from newspapers in Chile, Italy and England about Arturo Vidal. So much of it is repackaged stuff that's been polished, presented at a new angle, and painted as something new. The saga has become boring even for Manchester United fans. So when a team mate of Arturo Vidal's suggests that he thinks the Chilean is leaving Juventus, it's something shiny and new. When that teammate just happens to be Former Manchester United player Paul Pogba, it makes it an even better story. Pogba left Old Trafford for Turin in a controversial low cost move, blaming Sir Alex Ferguson for not giving him enough chances at the Premier League club. Pogba has been speaking to the Australian media whilst on tour Juventus. He's quoted by The Age as saying "We're hearing that Vidal is going but we don't know. For the moment he's injured, he's trying to get fit. We want him to stay at Juventus. At the moment he's here so we won't speak about him leaving." [Source: Sport Witness]
Paul Scholes insists he is ready to tell it how it is in his new role as a TV pundit. But it seems Class of '92 team-mate Gary Neville is already looking to cool him down, after throwing an ice bucket over him. Scholes, who upset Wayne Rooney earlier this summer with his scathing views, joined Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Phil Neville and a host of other Old Trafford favourites for a charity game against non-league Salford City on Thursday night. Neville threw the ice bucket over Scholes as part of a charity cause for the James McCarthy Foundation - not the Everton midfielder, but a young man who suffered a brain tumour in a car accident and wants to complete his 'bucket list' - and the Former United midfielder apparently requested that Darren Fletcher be next in line to be soaked. The former England midfielder will embark on his latest career turn next week as a pundit for BT Sport in their Premier League curtain-raiser between United and Swansea. Speaking to Sam Wallace ahead of the launch of his ne ...

CHELSEA UNDER 21 STAR Charly Musonda PART OF TALENTED FOOTBALLING FAMILY AND DREAMS OF MAKING IT IN PREMIER LEAGUE Collecting the ball from Nathan Ake, there was only one thought in Charly Musonda's mind. The ball magnetically attracted to his boot, he floated infield, leaving a brace of Manchester United defenders wrong-footed. As he approached the 'D' on the edge of the box, Musonda shaped to shoot and, using the shield of two red-shirted players to deceive the goalkeeper, flashed the ball into the bottom corner. The goal turned the Under 21 Premier League final at Old Trafford in Chelsea's favour and acted as a springboard to a 2-1 success that capped a fine season for the club's Academy. It was also the latest showcase of the enormous potential that has meant the 17-year-old whizzkid has been compared with Eden Hazard, Andres Iniesta and Xavi. But Charly is only the starting point for footballing talent in the Musonda family. He is the most gifted of three brothers signed by Chelsea from Belgian side ...
Manchester United Give Trial to the 'Next Gareth Bale' Oscar Borg Manchester United have offered a trial to a West Ham youngster who has been dubbed by some as the 'next Gareth Bale'. 16-year-old Oscar Borg is currently undergoing trials with the Old Trafford club, however fellow Premier League outfit Southampton have also let their interest be known in the player, according to the Express. Nicknamed 'Gareth' by several of his youth coaches at West Ham academy after displaying a similar playing style to the 25-year-old Real Madrid superstar, Borg hopes he has just as bright a future ahead of him. Borg plays as a left-sided wing back and will be trying to do enough in his trial to make the transition into the Red Devils notorious youth set-up. Should Borg impress those at United enough where they will decide to bring him in on a permanent deal, he will cost Louis Van Gaal a fee of just £220,000, decided by youth player compensation laws. West Ham have also offered new terms to another highly rated youngst ...
Where are Van Gaal's Manchester United leaders? As Patrice Evra becomes the latest senior player to depart Old Trafford, the incoming coach enters a dressing room full of individuals low on experience and confidence The list of departed leaders is extraordinary; unprecedented in a single Premier League summer. Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Nemanja Vidic. All first-team captains, none to be seen in a Manchester United shirt again. Their exits took different forms. Giggs elected to retire when persuaded to remain at Old Trafford as one of Louis Van Gaal's assistants. His contract running down, Vidic chose to move to Serie A before United had the opportunity to show him the door. After 12 seasons in red, Ferdinand was informed that his services were no longer required. Losing the third part of what was until recently United's strongest defence was a more complicated process. Whatever you read last season about Patrice Evra being surplus to requirements for the coming campaign was misinformed. Evra ...

The 'The Chosen One' banner reappears, and a plane with the message 'The Right One - Moyes Forever' is seen triumphantly flying over Old Trafford.
2. Peter Schmeichel Manchester United finest goalkeeper, who was the key component of one of the meanest defenses of United’s history. Physically intimidating, highly vocal, and with the positional awareness of a sweeper, Schmeichel hit the national stage at Euro 1992. With Denmark only at the tournament due to replacing the war-torn Yugoslavia, little was expected of them. Yet they left as winners, in large part due to the Great Dane’s heroics – particularly his crucial penalty save in the semi-finals from Marco Van Basten. At United, he helped the club to five Premier League titles, ending his career at Old Trafford in 1999 with a league title medal, an FA Cup, and a Champions League medal. In the spectacular end to the Champions League final, Schmeichel did one of his classic late surges into the box for a corner – causing confusion in the Bayern defense that led to United’s late equalizer. Corrie street fans in Canada now kno y the great dane was called schmeichel ! Aftrall they r in man u. ...

Manchester United have agreed a deal with adidas worth a minimum of £750million over 10 years from the 2015-16 season. The news will be a welcome boost for the Old Trafford club whose performances on the pitch last season were hugely disappointing but they can now look forward to fresh investment with the new contract doubling the income from previous kit suppliers Nike. The announcement comes a day after the German firm, a FIFA World Cup sponsor, provided the kits for Germany and Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final. A club statement on Monday read: "Manchester United plc has reached a 10-year agreement with adidas for a global technical sponsorship and dual branded licensing deal for a minimum guarantee of £750m, subject to certain adjustments, beginning with the 2015/2016 campaign." Sportswear giants Nike announced on July 9 they had decided not to continue their relationship with United, claiming the Premier League side were demanding too much money. Last week's statement from Nike, who are set to ...
