This entry was posted in Arsenal News, Arsenal NewsNow, Premier League News and tagged Alexis, Giroud, Rosicky on December 26, 2014 by Bob. I really do not know which way to go on the latest Arsenal performance, because there were so many contradictory things to take from the Premier League home game against QPR. The Gunners did a fantastic job in many ways, by absolutely taking HArry Redknapp and his players to the cleaners. The performance and the way that Arsenal and particularly Alexis Sanchez gave the visitors a lesson in football was an example of the best of the Gunners. It was footballing genius and I think that Tomas Rosicky, drafted in because of the injury nightmare keeping Ramsey, Wilhere, Arteta and the Ox out of the match day squad, deserves a huge round of applause for his contribution. But as well as we did and for all the chances we created, Arsenal made hard work of this game. Alexis was amazing but his attempt to score from the penalty spot was so bad that it should mean that the Chile ...
London: Alexis Sanchez helped maintain 10-man Arsenal`s Champions League push as his man-of-the-match display condemned Queens Park Rangers to a 2-1 Premier League defeat on Friday. The Chilean forward went from zero to hero after squandering an early penalty and then putting Arsenal ahead with a 37th-minute header. Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud was sent off for violent conduct before Sanchez`s mazy run carved out a second goal for Tomas Rosicky. Charlie Austin`s late penalty had nerves jangling at the Emirates Stadium, but it was too little, too late for QPR, who fell to a record-equalling ninth straight away defeat. In a bid to end his side`s woes away from Loftus Road, QPR manager HArry Redknapp recalled Rio Ferdinand for the first time since October and he formed part of a new three-man defensive set-up. But those carefully-laid plans should have been ...

Chelsea vs QPR REVIEW ( Chelsea win 1st half ) Chelsea have failed to score in three of the last four Premier League games against West London rivals QPR. (Deb) The Rs continue to use sports psychologist Steve Black, who was instrumental in helping the team achieve promotion last season. Caulker believes Black has a big part to play again this time around as the Rangers players look to produce better performances. He said: “He has been doing a lot of stuff with us home and away. He comes into the changing room before games and just tries to get us right mentally. “The psychological side of the game plays a big part. As you could see we were a little bit low on confidence when the first goal went in [against West Ham] and we don’t want that. “We need to be at it, we need to be on the front foot and we need to believe in our ability because we have got a good enough squad to stay in the Premier League.” Caulker was relegated with Cardiff City last season and says manager HArry Redknapp had every right to read the players the riot act after the West Ham defeat. He said: “It is very disappointing to be bottom of the league. Whether it is seven games ...

HArry Redknapp: As a manager, Redknapp has lost each of his 14 Premier League games at Old Trafford (with West Ham, Portsmouth & Tottenham )
United held by Sunderland, Spurs top 24 Aug 2014 19:01:29 Manchester United laboured to a ponderous 1-1 draw away at Sunderland on Sunday that delivered a first Premier League point of the season but laid bare their dire need for reinforcements. After Tottenham Hotspur had made it six points from two games with players condemned as expensive mistakes last season starring in a 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, United's frailties at both ends of the pitch were there for all to see. Juan Mata's opening goal on 17 minutes proved a unique scoring opportunity while their lack of a commanding centre half was exploited by an unmarked Jack Rodwell for Sunderland's equaliser. Goals were not in short supply at White Hart Lane where HArry Redknapp endured a miserable return to his former club. Nacer Chadli scored twice while record signing Erik Lamela was pivotal in a playmaker role, sparking celebrations for new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, whose side sit top of the fledgling table, and more gloom for Redknap ...
Relive all the action from Sunday's Premier League games, as Spurs make it an unhappy White Hart Lane return for HArry Redknapp, while Louis Van Gaal still awaits his first victory as Manchester United manager.
HArry Redknapp: "We didn’t play well today. We were sloppy from the very first minute and we didn’t get out of it. We stood off them; didn’t get close enough to them; didn’t make a tackle; and didn’t make them work hard enough. We looked like strangers out there at times. We didn’t get after them. We lacked energy and I was disappointed with that aspect of our play. There was no urgency or intensity to our game and that’s not good enough in the Premier League. You’ve got to take your chances in this division, especially at places like White Hart Lane. To be fair to Matty, he brought the ball down well, created himself some space but then couldn’t finish it. That’s how it goes sometimes, but after that we conceded more sloppy goals. Spurs are a good side, but we’ve got to be better than that, We’ve got to show what we’re really made of if we want to stay in this division. You can’t afford to have off days in the Premier League like we had today. People can talk about systems all ...
:FOOTBALL NEWS: (24TH AUGUST 2014) * Queens Park Rangers manager HArry Redknapp would be interested in signing Manchester United's Wilfried Zaha if the winger was available on loan. The former Crystal Palace man has made just two senior league appearances for United since signing in January 2013, ending last season on loan at Cardiff. "If we thought he was available he would certainly be of interest," said Redknapp. "If they were to loan him I'm sure a lot of clubs would be interested." Ahead of Redknapp's return to former club Tottenham on Sunday, the QPR boss also said he was confident striker Loic Remy would still be at Loftus Road at the end of the Transfer Window. * Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists there was no ulterior motive behind his decision to leave Fernando Torres out of his squad on Saturday. The last six months of the 67-year-old’s Spurs tenure were thoroughly miserable; he was helpless to avoid the North Londoners blowing effectively a 16-point lead over Arsenal to miss out on Champions League football, after being acquitted of fraud and missing out on the England job he craved so badly (“I was relieved I didn’t get offered it,” he later claimed. “I love club football – I’d miss it”). QPR manager HArry Redknapp is set to boost his Premier League squad by signing highly-rated midfielder Mark Davies from Bolton this week
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is expected to reach a deal to join Premier League new boys QPR on Tuesday. The 35-year-old centre-back, who has been capped 81 times by England, is a free agent, having not been offered a new deal when his latest Manchester United contract expired at the end of last season. Ferdinand and QPR were unable to reach agreement on an original deal but a revised offer has been made and it appears that the experienced defender will now be heading to Loftus Road after all. Having begun his career at West Ham, Ferdinand moved to Leeds in 2000 before joining Manchester United in a £30m deal in July 2002 which made him the most expensive British footballer in history at the time. He went on to make over 300 appearances for United, winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008. Ferdinand previously worked under current QPR boss HArry Redknapp during his time at West Ham and his brother Anton played for the West London club between 2011 and 2013.
TRANSFER RUMOURS QPR have tabled an offer for Derby midfielder Craig Bryson. The 27-year-old is one of Rangers’ top transfer targets following their promotion back to the Premier League. Derby recently rejected a bid for him from Burnley and are hoping to persuade the player to extend his contract. Bryson netted 16 goals last season and featured against the R’s in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, where Bobby Zamora’s last-minute winner took QPR up. He scored two hat-tricks for the Rams last term, one of them coming against their East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest. QPR boss HArry Redknapp wants to sign at least one midfielder this summer and hoped to land both Bryson and Steve Sidwell, who opted to join Stoke when his Fulham contract expired. Redknapp is also keen to strengthen his defence and has agreed a deal in principle to sign Former England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand. An offer has also been made for Cardiff’s much sought-after centre-back Steven Caulker, who is wa ...
Arsenal boss doing background checks as he plots Remy transfer The long wait, by the player himself anyway, for a dream transfer to Arsenal could soon be over for the QPR striker Loic Remy. There are reports in the media that the Gunners are getting closer to making an official move for the pacy and prolific front man, but there are still one or two issues to resolve apparently. It seems that the France international has done enough during his year-and-a-half in the Premier League to convince Arsene Wenger that he has got the quality to play for Arsenal. His goals to games ratio, while playing for two struggling sides in Newcastle and QPR, is certainly impressive, while his all round game shows the skill and pace that would have been welcome for us last season. The concern for Wenger now, according to a report in The Express, is what Remy is like as a person and what he is like to manage. So the Prof has been in touch with another of Remy’s former clubs, Marseille, to find out. Maybe he does not trust . ...
Tottenham are ready to pay the £9 million buyout clause to sign Loic Remy from QPR but the striker is holding out for the possibility of a move to Arsenal after the World Cup. Spurs want to sign Remy to strengthen the attacking options for new manager Mauricio Pochettino and extensive talks have taken place over a deal to bring the 27-year-old to White Hart Lane. Tottenham are long-term admirers of Remy and are confident of signing him on a four-year contract after the World Cup in Brazil, where he is part of the 23-man France squad. They tried a number of times to sign Remy under HArry Redknapp and the versatile forward is highly rated by scout Ian Broomfield, who returned to Spurs earlier this year from QPR. Remy wants to play for a club in the Champions League next season but has been impressed by Tottenham’s ambition and considers the North Londoners a leading Premier League club. But while he is open to a move to Tottenham, Remy would prefer to wait to establish the extent of the interest from the ...
Kevin Doyle insists he has no problem with returning to Wolverhampton Wanderers next season, despite helping Queens Park Rangers to the Premier League. The former Reading forward joined HArry Redknapp at Loftus Road in January, when he signed on loan for the remainder of the campaign. Doyle featured 12 times for the Londoners, including the playoff semi-final matches and the final, and scored two goals as the Hoops eventually secured a return to the top-flight at Wembley. It has been suggested that QPR now have an option to take the 30-year-old for a fee of just £1million, but it remains to be seen if they will take up this option. If not, then the Republic of Ireland international insists he is happy to return to Wolves, who will be in the Championship next term after clinching promotion from League One. “I’ll have no problem going back and everyone is perfectly civil and fine with me. It’s not a case people don’t talk to me,” Doyle said in the Express & Star. “They have decisions to make an ...

Zamora sends QPR back into Premier League (AFP) Saturday 24 May 2014 Share Ten-man Queens Park Rangers clinched promotion to the English Premier League in dramatic fashion as Bobby Zamora's stoppage-time strike secured a 1-0 win over Derby County in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Saturday. HArry Redknapp's side were reduced to ten men for the final 30 minutes after Gary O'Neil's red card, but Zamora punished a mistake by Richard Keogh to steal victory against the run of play and ensure the West Londoners will make a quick and lucrative return to the English top-flight after last season's relegation. It was a real smash and grab raid by QPR, who struggled to find any rhythm even before O'Neil's dismissal, but although Derby dominated they had only themselves to blame for failing to make the most of their chances. HArry Redknapp is under no illusions of the difficulty of winning promotion via the play-offs ahead of QPR's clash with Wigan Athletic. QPR visit Wigan for the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final on Friday after falling short in the race for automatic promotion. Redknapp's men finished 13 points below second-placed Burnley and now face a stern examination if the London club are to be successful in their quest to seal an immediate return to the Premier League. Indeed, Wigan have enjoyed an excellent second half of the season, winning 13 league games in 2014 to secure fifth place while also reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup in the defence of the trophy they won last year. And Redknapp is well aware that QPR will need to be at their best in order to progress to the Wembley final. "Wigan will be a tough game - they're a very good side," said Redknapp. "Being at home in the second leg is important for us, but our only focus at the minute is on preparing for Friday at their place. "I think ...
Justin Edinburgh believes Tottenham’s current woes can be traced back to HArry Redknapp’s sacking. The former Spurs chief was removed from his post, after failing to agree terms on a new deal, back in June 2012. The North London side finished in the top four that season but saw Chelsea claim the last Champions League spot, following a dramatic victory against Bayern Munich in the final of the competition. The White Hart Lane side have not qualified for Europe's premier competition since and current boss Tim Sherwood is reportedly set to leave this summer, following a number of poor results against the Premier League's big boys. And, with the club currently langusing in sixth place in the table, former defender Edinburgh claims Tottenham's current malaise is down to Redknapp’s departure. “Tottenham always seem to press the self destruct button,” he told Extra Time. “Why on earth did Tottenham get rid of Harry [Redknapp]? “We had the best squad I’d seen at Tottenham for 20-odd years. ARRY: "I'LL GIVE IT MY BEST SHOT TO GET QPR PROMOTED... ...if my best isn't good enough, there's nothing more I can do about it". QPR's HArry Redknapp still managing "because I love it. The moment I don't, I'll pack up" He's 10 points off automatic promotion back to the Prem at a club £177m in debt and in line for knee replacement surgery, but life's still triffic Redknapp is still plotting QPR's return to the Premier League. HArry Redknapp is booked in for a knee replacement operation this summer - and if all goes well, QPR's promotion bid won't be his last stand. Arry isn't so keen on a bionic knee when he learnt that Graham Taylor, from the same generation of managerial achievers, was unable to attend matches as a BBC Radio pundit for six months after comparable surgery last year. Could the last 10 games of the season really be the 67-year-old Redknapp's farewell tour? Surely not - after all, it is only two years since he looked more nailed-on for the England job than some of his horse racing tips. Bu ...
Tim Sherwood - a punishment for a policy of "Tottenham" Just two years ago, "Tottenham" showing its best all-time performances in the Premier League football. The team was stable and progressed. And the main culprit that "spurs" ceased to rush in search of the right path of development, was HArry Redknapp. Unfortunately, it does not understand all periodically pointing out how Redknapp's tactical Neanderthal is and how it interferes with the team to develop. Club president Daniel Levy trusted public opinion and traded Redknapp on Villas-Boas. Since then, the shuttle costs become inversely proportional to the progress on the football field. And fans disgusted by lackluster and unprincipled football, because of which the "Tottenham" the first time in 10 years to finish with a negative risk difference of goals scored and conceded. But the real punishment for frequent change of coaches and that myopic castling in particular caught up "spurs" only now - at the head of the club got just such a coach, how to ste ...
What did we learn, today? 1. The present Tottenham Hotspur team is not of top-4 quality. In fact, apart from Lloris, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Sandro and Eriksen, I wouldn't mind putting everyone else on the market, this Summer. 2. The current Head Coach is not good enough for this Club. He is a poor imitation of HArry Redknapp, who, himself, was deemed not good enough, by the same Chairman who appointed the current coach. You know what they say...the definition of stupidity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting to get a different result. 3. Most telling of all - Arsenal will NEVER win another Premier League title with Arsene Wenger at the helm. He has confirmed a long-held suspicion of mine that he is, in reality, the French Tony Pulis. Three full backs and three centre backs and a defensive midfielder all on the field at once! That's more than parking the bus...Therein lies the reason this team has won NOTHING in the past 8 seasons...Monsieur Négative is too afraid to take chances. 4. T ...

HArry Redknapp reckons wild-child midfielder Ravel Morrison can fire QPR back to the Premier League.
Football transfer rumours: Chelsea to swap Courtois for Costa? To the Daily Star, where it's reported that "high-level" talks took place between representatives of Chelsea and Atlético Madrid in London last week, presumably on the top floor of The Shard (306m tall), One Canada Square (235m) or even Heron Tower, which stands at 202m but attempts to cheat by boasting a 28m long spire; the sky-scraping equivalent of a short man trying to look taller by wearing stack heels and a top hat. And the subject of this high-level chat? A potential swap deal that would see Atlético Madrid keep the Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and give the Premier League leaders their star striker Diego Costa and £8m in exchange. Alternatively, they'll pay Chelsea £16m and throw in the Spain Under-21 midfielder Jorge Resurrección Merodio (aka Koke) as a sweetener. Never having played for Chelsea but having become a first-team staple at Atlético, where he has been on loan on loan for the past three seasons, the 21-year-old ...
HArry Redknapp has claimed that signing Ravel Morrison is a gamble, but one that could prove instrumental in firing QPR back into the Premier League.
Welcome to the 100 club! Mourinho brings up his century of Premier League wins in style Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Manchester United helped keep the Blues in the title race – but it also marked manager Jose Mourinho’s 100th win in the Premier League. The Portuguese manager set a new record when he reached the landmark in double quick time as it took him just 142 games – 20 less than Sir Alex Ferguson. Mourinho becomes the 15th manager to join the list, which includes Arsene Wenger, Alan Curbishley and HArry Redknapp, who all reached a century of wins. Sunday’s 3-1 win was Mourinho’s 15th Premier League win this season and his other 85 came in his first spell at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2007 when he won two Premier League titles. Mourinho’s first win as Chelsea boss came way back in 2004 when an Eidur Gudjohnsen goal helped beat Manchester United 1-0 on the opening day of the season. Joe Cole got the only goal of the game against Birmingham as Mourinho recorded his first away win in the l ...
So far, David Moyes has a better win% record (57.58) than any manager in United’s history apart from Alex Ferguson (59.67). Moyes’ win% with Everton was much lower though (41%). Moyes won 18 of his first 31 games in charge at United — a better record than Sir Matt Busby (15), Ron Atkinson (14) and Sir Alex Ferguson (12). United have gone out of the FA Cup at the third round under Moyes — something which only happened once in Alex Ferguson’s 27 years in charge. United are currently seventh. They haven’t been as low at this stage of the season since the 1988/89 campaign. Only Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson and HArry Redknapp have managed more Premier League games than David Moyes. Alex Ferguson (528), Arsene Wenger (383), David Moyes (174), Rafa Benitez (126) and Gerard Houllier (112) are the only managers to have won over 100 games with a Premier League team Moyes’ expensive £27.5 million signing, Marouane Fellaini, has scored just once this season — while playing for Everton. He has failed ...
Today's visitors to Goodison Park are under the stewardship of HArry Redknapp, who is looking to get the R's back into the Premier League.
Continue. Former England manager Hoddle hardly fared any better, with two defeats and two draws from four matches between 2001 and 2003. Martin Jol had a number of runs-in with Wenger during his three-year spell at the Lane. The two famously squared off after Spurs had taken advantage of two Gunners players staying down injured to score a goal, but the Dutchman left Spurs having failed to beat Le Prof in seven meetings; losing four, drawing three, conceding 16 and scoring nine. Fleeting visit | Juande Ramos had his high points Terrific results | Harry ''Arry' Redknapp's record was impressive Mind the gap | AVB won just once against the Gunners Juande Ramos was not in England long and he lost to Wenger in their one Premier League meeting, but did register a 5-1 League Cup semi-final thrashing after the first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw. HArry Redknapp succeeded Ramos and did more damage to Wenger than any other Spurs manager. Of nine clashes, Redknapp oversaw three wins, three draws and three defeats. Two ...
With clubs reluctant to allow their best players to leave in January, the winter window has garnered a reputation for inflated prices and barrel scraping. Good deals are hard to come by – with HArry Redknapp even likening the scramble for those rare opportunities to “gang warfare” – and recent deals for Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll (who, together, have cost £3.7 million per league goal) have come to typify a market which holds little value to buyers. “The January transfer market has never been the best transfer market and that has been proven over the years with very few big transfers happening,” said Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. “All the big transfers happen in the summer.” Certainly winter spending dwarfs that of the summer, and, since trading windows were introduced in 2003, Premier League spending has, on average, been £321.8m greater in the summer than winter. Yet both the divisions' record signing, Torres, and the most expensive British player, Carroll, move ...
Andre Villas-Boas deserved more time to work with and develop the Tottenham Hotspur squad, HArry Redknapp said on the day his successor was fired as manager. Three heavy defeats in two months, the most recent a 5-0 mauling by Liverpoolat White Hart Lane on Sunday, resulted in the sack for Villas-Boas with his expensively-assembled team lying a disappointing seventh in the Premier League table. Spurs were also thrashed 6-0 at Manchester Citythree weeks ago and suffered the embarrassment of a 3-0 home defeat by struggling West Ham Unitedin October but Redknapp felt it was too early to jettison the young Portuguese. "I think people are over-reacting too quickly," he told Talksport Radio on Monday. "You lose a couple of games now and you're in trouble, it shouldn't be like that. "You either think somebody is good at their job or not and when you appoint someone you should give them time and let them do the job," added Redknapp, who is now in charge of Championship leaders Queens Park Rangers. "It's fa ...
QPR captain Clint Hill is aiming to win his second promotion to the Premier League with the club. Hill says there is a far better atmosphere in HArry Redknapp's squad this season than there was last year.
DID YOU KNOW. Out of a total of 70 trophies won by English league clubs across Europe since the Premier League was launched some 20 years ago. Remarkably, just six of these have been won by English managers. The last English manager to win anything was HArry Redknapp when he captured the FA Cup with Portsmouth back in 2008. The last time the top-tier of English football was won by an Englishman was in 1991-92 when Howard Wilkinson led Leeds to the First-Division crown. The Premier League started the next season and no English manager has ever won it. Bobby Robson was the last Englishman to win a European Cup when he won the European Cup-Winners’ back in 1997. Ironically, he was managing Spain’s Barcelona at the time. Howard Kendall was the last to win a European title with an English club when he led Everton to victory in the Cup Winner’s Cup in 1985. While six English managers have won trophies over this period of time, there have been 18 foreign managers who have won a total of 42 trophies. One of ...
Why Promotion is the Only Option for QPR This Season Posted on November 8, 2013 by Kartik Krishnaiyer Queens Park Rangers have one of the largest and deepest squads in Europe. Yet they are not in a European competition of any kind and have one goal: to secure a quick return to the Premier League. Otherwise, they could potentially face financial armageddon. Chairman Tony Fernandes has been more than generous in backing three successive managers in the transfer market, but this season after relegation to the Championship, the stakes are higher than ever for the side currently managed by HArry Redknapp. This season QPR have signed Niko Kranjcar, Charlie Austin away from Burnley, Karl Henry away from Wolves, Richard Dunne away from Villa, Matty Phillips away from Blackpool, and got the “English Xavi” in Thomas Carroll, while signing Benoît Assou-Ekotto on loan from Spurs. They shed very few players from last year’s well paid Premier League squad, and yet as of today sit outside the automatic promotion ...
Former QPR manager Neil Warnock believes Adel Taarabt’s best days in England are behind him. Taarabt has so far failed to make a real impact since moving on a season-long loan to Fulham in the wake of Rangers’ relegation from the Premier League. He was keen to move on and had fallen out of favour under current R’s boss HArry Redknapp, who previously allowed him to leave Tottenham. And although Warnock does not believe the door has been shut on the Moroccan returning to Loftus Road, he feels managers in this country will struggle to get the best out of him. Warnock said: “I’d never say never. Adel was and still does remain a fans favourite at QPR. “But I don’t think he’ll ever have another season like the one he had with me though, and that’s no disrespect to Harry or any other manager. Warnock recently left Leeds United Warnock took QPR up in 2011 “I just can’t see another manager in England having a go with him for 12 months.” Taarabt, 24, produced the best football of his career ...

Among the many revelations, some more bafflingly controversial than others, regarding the England manager’s role during the recent international break came one that raised eyebrows among Liverpool supporters. After all, had HArry Redknapp been handed the national team job ahead of Roy Hodgson, the immediate future of the Anfield outfit could have been very different. Brendan Rodgers confirmed this week he was approached in April 2012 by Redknapp to become his assistant in the event of the then-Tottenham Hotspur manager landing the big one. Of course, it never happened. Instead, with Redknapp ultimately destined for Queens Park Rangers, Rodgers was charged less than two months later with dragging Liverpool back into the Champions League. So far, so good for this season, with his side second only to Arsenal on goals scored in the embryonic Premier League table going into tomorrow afternoon’s clash at Newcastle United. Rodgers, though, has always maintained an interest in the bigger picture. And while ** ...
Brendan Rodgers addressed a room full of journalists and reporters at Melwood on Thursday afternoon, speaking ahead of this Saturday’s Premier League clash at Newcastle. On HArry Redknapp claiming he would be his right-hand-man had Redknapp been given the England job “HArry Redknapp did ask me to be his right-hand man for England job, but there was no decision either way. “I would have considered helping Harry. I’ve got a lot of respect for him. He’s a wonderful man. But it’s irrelevant now.” On having players return from injury this weekend “We will arrive with our strongest squad of the season at Newcastle. Johnson, Allen, Cissokho are all back, though lacking games. “Philippe Coutinho is still working on his rehabilitation from injury with the physiologist. On Luis Suarez facing more international games for Uruguay in November “Luis Suarez being involved in further international games doesn’t phase me. He will come back a professional and work hard.” On winning in style, as well ...
SUNDERLAND MANAGER CONTENDERS Steve McClaren, Roberto Di Matteo, Gus Poyet and Roberto Mancini tipped to be in frame to replace sacked Paolo Di Canio Steve McClaren Ellis Short, Sunderland's owner, is not thought to have been a member of the Former England coach's fan club but local betting patterns on Monday indicated the big money was on him. Based in North Yorkshire but commuting to QPR to help HArry Redknapp, McClaren understands the north-east and the Premier League. Won the League Cup at Middlesbrough and reached the Uefa Cup Final. Assisted Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and won the Eredivisie at FC Twente. Lowlights include England, Wolfsburg and Nottingham Forest but is a high-calibre coach likes passing football and would understand the mentality of a largely overseas squad. FanZoner Chris King says QPR fans are growing tired of HArry Redknapp washing his dirty linen in public and calls for a more reserved approach. Declaring an interest in Wayne Bridge following a season in which washed-up Premier League 'stars' conspired to relegate Queens Park Rangers is rather misguided, to say the least. Yet that is what manager HArry Redknapp did this week, proving beyond all doubt the simple truth that many supporters have long held to be self-evident: he simply cannot help himself. Presumably the former Tottenham Hotspur boss regarded the once-Chelsea left back as a "t'riffic" player capable, perhaps single-handedly, of bringing about an immediate return to the top flight. A large number of fans, on the other hand, quite rightly reacted with suspicion and fear at the possibility of restarting the perilous trend that brought about the debacle last season. With also-relegated Reading having snapped up the 32-year-old on Friday, the immediate danger has passed, and Bridge may well prove ...

Sullivan’s Fratton Past by Johnny Moore Cast your mind back to a gloriously sunny afternoon on April 24 2005. Back then a sensational 27-minute spell saw a Lomana LuaLua-inspired Pompey run South Coast rivals Southampton ragged. HArry Redknapp – who had departed Fratton Park a few months earlier – watched on glumly from the opposition dug-out as his new side plummeted closer to Premier League relegation. Among a jubilant home crowd that memorable day was a teenage John Sullivan, who watched with awe from the Fratton End. It was the same year that the Sussex-born keeper began his professional football career with Brighton. But eight years later Sullivan is back at Fratton Park, having joined Pompey after leaving Charlton earlier this month. And he is hopeful that he and his new team-mates can create more joyous memories for the fans. “I was just down the South Coast in Worthing, so I went with a friend who had a couple of tickets for the game,” Sullivan recalled. “I saw Fratton Park – and the ...

PREMIER LEAGUEOUND UP: Manchester United's relentless march to the Premier League title shows no sign of abating as they opened up a 15-point lead at the summit courtesy of a 4-0 win over Norwich, while Chelsea are up to third after seeing off West Brom. Birthday boy HArry Redknapp had an afternoon to remember as he masterminded a QPR win at his former club Southampton; in a result made all the sweeter by the fact Everton were too strong for Reading at Goodison Park in claiming a 3-1 victory. West Ham conducted a perfect smash-and-grab job at Stoke City, Sunderland and Fulham shared four goals and the spoils at the Stadium of Light, while at the Liberty Stadium Swansea left it late to see off Newcastle United. In Saturday's late kick-off Liverpool were emphatic on their travels to North West neighbours Wigan as they eased to a 4-0 victory, which included a Luis Suarez hat-trick. Norwich never gave up the fight at Old Trafford but in Shinji Kagawa came up against a Manchester United player at the peak of h ...

Victory was the ideal tonic for Redknapp after waking up on his 66th birthday to damning reports of ill-discipline on a recent Dubai training camp. Rather than throw the strugglers off track, though, QPR performed admirably on the South Coast and opened the scoring after just 14 minutes through Loic Remy. Former Tottenham director of football Damien Comolli insists Gareth Bale should stay at Spurs Damien Comolli, the former director of football at Tottenham, identified Bale as a major target for Tottenham when he was an emerging talent at St Mary’s, and urged chairman Daniel Levy to secure his signature. Despite a rocky period in which manager HArry Redknapp was unconvinced of Bale’s ability to withstand the challenge of the Premier League, Bale has flourished and become one of the most coveted players in world football. Former Real Madrid president Ramón Calderón predicted that Real Madrid would move for the forward in the summer, but Comolli said Bale should continue his development at Tottenham, providing they reach the Champions League. “He is in an ideal place as long as Tottenham reach the Champions League,” the Frenchman told Telegraph Sport. “At the moment he is carrying Spurs towards the Champions League, but he has all the time in the world to move on if he wants to at some stage. He ...
Monday Night Football: QPR defending unexplainable, says Sky Sports' Gary Neville Gary Neville was left baffled by Queens Park Rangers' 'unexplainable' defending at the weekend but thinks the Premier League's rock-bottom club could still produce a Great Escape. A 2-0 defeat by league leaders Manchester United on Saturday left HArry Redknapp's team at the foot of the table and seven points from safety with just 11 matches remaining in the season. There was little QPR could do to stop Rafael from opening the scoring with a wonderful strike but Sky Sports expert Neville was less than impressed with the defending which allowed Ryan Giggs to add United's second. "Southampton could almost put QPR to bed on Saturday. But if QPR win and bring Southampton back into them, they could potentially go on a run" Gary Neville Quotes of the week Jose Bosingwa permitted Danny Welbeck to set up the goal while Stephane Mbia moved away from play, seemingly adjusting his gloves rather than focusing on the game, before Clint Hi ...

Hoilett out to prove his worth to QPR boss after injury woe QPR winger Junior Hoilett insists he's finally over his injury nightmare and ready to prove a point to boss HArry Redknapp. The summer arrival from Blackburn Rovers has made just one start for Rangers since Redknapp took charge in November, and rejected the chance to join West Brom on deadline day as part of the deal to sign Peter Odemwingie collapsed at the 11th hour. Hoilett has been dogged by a hamstring problem since his move to Loftus Road, making just nine Premier League starts for the Rs. But the 22-year-old is now back in full training and determined to play his part in QPR's survival bid. He told the Chronicle: “I started training last week, so I've been doing some rehab and strength work and hopefully be ready for the next match [against Manchester United]. “It's been really frustrating, especially when a new manager comes in and you can't show him what you can do because of injuries. “I've struggled with the same hamstring proble ...
Cesar holds hands up after dismal QPR drift further away from Premier League safety HArry Redknapp revealed Julio Cesar came into the QPR dressing room and apologised for playing with an injury in Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Swansea. A bigger offence would be if the goalkeeper was the only player who held his hand up. With the possible exception of Andros Townsend, they all had something to be a little sorry about, not least the fact QPR are now seven points short of 17th place after such a flat effort. Redknapp doesn’t quite think they need snookers to get out of this situation, but he does believe they need to amass 20 points from their final 12 games — having taken 17 from 26 so far — to have any chance of staying up. He has done it before, notably when Portsmouth won six and drew two of their last 10 games in 2006 to avoid relegation. ‘I am still confident,’ said Redknapp. ‘I know it is going to be hard and I think it will go to the wire but it is not impossible. ‘It is very similar to Po ...
Premier League: Swansea thrash QPR to add to Redknapp's relegation fears QPR's Premier League relegation fears increased after HArry Redknapp's men were thrashed 4-1 by Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. After dominating the opening stages, Michu gave the Swans the lead when his miss-hit rebound looped in. The second was far too easy for the home side, as Angel Rangel ran in behind the visiting defence, and had time for two bites at the cherry to put his side 2-0 up. Substitute Bobby Zamora had given QPR hope early in the second half, but Pablo Hernandez's sneaky third and a wonderful team goal sealed victory at a canter for Michael Laudrup's side, who are up to seventh with this result, and piled more misery on the hapless Rs. With their Capital One Cup final on the horizon, you could have forgiven the Swansea players if they weren't completely focused on the task at hand, but right from the word go, they controlled the match. After having the large majority of possession early on, the Swans went ahead than ...

Norwich City goalkeeper Mark Bunn's second-half penalty save from Adel Taarabt earned his side a point against Premier League bottom club QPR. The Canaries were furious about the award after Bunn felled Jamie Mackie, but the keeper made a fine diving save from the otherwise impressive Taarabt. Taarabt also went close with two long-range strikes. But home keeper Julio Cesar was forced to make several decent saves in a thrilling second half to earn the draw. Despite stretching the improving QPR's unbeaten league run to five games, the visitors will be happier with a result that lifts them seven points away from the relegation zone. HArry Redknapp's R's, who have drawn their last four top-flight games, are now six points adrift of safety following Saturday's league programme. Ultimately both sides were punished for their lack of quality in front of goal - something both managers had sought to address in the Transfer Window. Redknapp and Norwich counterpart Chris Hughton had clearly been set on bolstering th ...
LONDON: Manchester City started what seems certain to be life without Mario Balotelli with a frustrating goalless draw at Premier League bottom club Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday.   Balotelli was missing as he concluded the details of his move to AC Milan after City had accepted the Italian club's reported £19 million offer for the striker earlier in the day.   And without the controversial forward, Roberto Mancini's champions missed out on the chance to close the gap on leaders Manchester United to two points.   But the draw left QPR within four points of safety.Balotelli's departure this month has been predicted for some time and the Italy international has been out of favour with Mancini, scoring just one league goal this season.   But the 22-year-old's unpredictable talents might just have made the difference in a stalemate at Loftus Road that will give West London club QPR hope they can avoid relegation. HArry Redknapp's side remain unbeaten in the league since the turn of the year -- although ...
Alejandro Faurlin has left QPR for Palermo on loan. The Argentinian midfielder will spend the rest of the season with the Serie A club after starting just 10 Premier League games this term. Faurlin is the latest in a line of players to leave Loftus Road this month as HArry Redknapp overhauls his squad ahead of a relegation battle. Djibril Cisse and Anton Ferdinand are already out on loan, while Ryan Nelsen has left for the MLS and Kieron Dyer has been released.
CAN HArry Redknapp pull off a trademark late signing with the purchase of Peter Odemwingie or Peter Crouch? Will David Villa be coming to England or could David Beckham join a Premier League side? David Villa Club: Barcelona Clubs interested: Arsenal, Manchester City THE Barcelona striker is thought to want a move away from the Nou Camp and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted his interest in signing the 31-year-old. The Spaniard would cost around £10m but Wenger has admitted a move is unlikely, saying Barca have made it “very, very clear” they don’t want to sell. Stranger turnarounds have happened though and, with Mario Ballotelli on the way out, Manchester City could yet get involved. HArry Redknapp will have to sacrifice Junior Hoilett if he wants Peter Odemwingie. QPR boss Redknapp remains keen on the 31-year-old West Brom striker to beef up the Loftus Road club's firepower as they try and escape from the Premier League's cellar. The Baggies, however, want Hoilett in a swap deal. West Brom have so far rejected two bids for Odemwingie, leaving Redknapp frustrated and the player in turmoil. The Nigeria striker has already slapped in a transfer request and made it clear he wants to join West Londoners Rangers.

• Transfer Update (21st January) • 22-year-old French international and rising star Yann M’Vila could well be on his way to the Premier League before the end of this winter Transfer Window. The rumours of his departure have now intensified after the club’s general manager, Pierre Dreossi, replied to questions over his future by saying, “There is a good chance that this is the last game Yann M’Vila will have played for Rennes.” The highly sought after midfielder has been linked to a host of clubs in recent times, but Rubin Kazan have emerged as the front runner for his signature, reports say. HArry Redknapp, who recently added Loic Remy to his QPR squad in an effort to bail them out of the relegation zone, has gone on record stating that he is hopeful of adding Remy’s compatriot M’Vila to his side as well. M’Vila seems to be in high demand all across London, as a host of other city clubs like Fulham and Tottenham have also been linked with this playmaker. His most likely destination in ...
Redknapp hopes his triple threat of Taarabt, Remy and Zamora will fire QPR to safety HArry Redknapp believes Loic Remy, Adel Taarabt and Bobby Zamora, returning from injury, can provide a triple attacking threat to fire QPR to Premier League survival. Remy, the £8million signing from Marseille, scored with his only real opportunity against West Ham and showed instant understanding with Taarabt, but Redknapp knows Rangers need a physical presence up front to hold the ball and sees 32-year-old Zamora as the perfect foil for the Frenchman. Zamora has been out since damaging his hip in mid-November but could be back for the FA Cup tie against MK Dons on Saturday and then the match at home to Manchester City a week Tuesday.Triple threat: QPR boss HArry Redknapp (right) believes Adel Taarabt (left), new boy Loic Remy and Bobby Zamora, who will soon return from injury, will fire his team to safety in the Premier League ‘Remy’s movement is good, he’s quick and he’ll score goals for us I’m sure,’ Redk ...
West Ham United 1-1 Queens Park Rangers | Premier League match report: HArry Redknapp could have seen it coming.
Queens Park Rangers defender Jose Bosingwa wants an £8million pay-out to leave the club after falling out of favour with manager HArry Redknapp. QPR vs Man United tickets still available Bosingwa was brought in by former boss Mark Hughes on a free transfer from Chelsea in the summer, ended a four-year spell at Stamford Bridge. He put pen to paper on a three-year contract worth £65,000 a week and played 11 times in the opening months of the season, scoring once. Source: Daily Mail But the Portuguese international right-back was omitted from the first-team following Redknapp’s appointment as successor to Hughes and was fined two weeks wages after refusing to be a substitute for December’s Premier League game with Fulham. The 30-year-old, who has since been isolated from first-team training and is currently sidelined with injury, has not appeared for the club since being fined. He has been made available for transfer but Premier League strugglers QPR have yet to receive an enquiry about the defender. B ...
Only very infrequently would a manager greet a match-winning performance with a sigh, but that might well have been what Queens Park Rangers boss HArry Redknapp did after his side won 1-0 away to West Bromwich Albion. Ending their hoodoo at The Hawthorns is one thing, but can Rangers continue their unbeaten 2013 with a positive result against London rivals West Ham United at Upton Park? What's the story? Disbelief was the primary reaction when the news filtered through that QPR had beaten the Baggies thanks to a winning goal from Jay Bothroyd. While it is customary to greet any win in football with a whoop and a cheer, to put it kindly the Rs have more pressing issues than a fourth round tie against Milton Keynes Dons. Surviving in the Premier League, not seeing off opponents in the FA Cup, is what Rangers need most. Therefore the result was surely, on the whole, potentially detrimental? Not in the slightest. Form is a precious commodity and must be jealously guarded by any team fortunate enough to posses ...
Newcastle are targeting a £9million deal for Ajax playmaker Siem De Jong in a bid to save their torrid season. The Magpies have seen the loss of their top goal-scorer and talisman so far this window, with Demba Ba completing a long-awaited £7.5 million move to Chelsea. Only full back Mathieu Debuchy has been added to the rank so far at St James, another transfer that was a long time in the waiting. However Newcastle will miss the goals of Demba Ba and had thought they had found a natural replacement in Marseille striker Loic Remy. Top talent spotter Graham Carr had watched Remy numerous times and even Alan Pardew thought that the deal for Remy would go through this month without too many complications. That was until HArry Redknapp's QPR stepped in with their astronomical £80,000 a week offer for Remy to join their fight for Premier League survival. So Pardew has now turned to Ajax star Siem De Jong to help change Newcastle's fortunes. De Jong can play in midfield but is more well known for occupying t ...
West Brom's Nigerian striker Peter Odemwingie, 31, is still a target for Premier League basement side QPR. The Baggies have already rejected a £2m offer for Odemwingie - who they value at £6m - from Rangers boss HArry Redknapp, as well as his £5m bid for their centre-back Jonas Olsson source - bbc sport (jason)
QPR have tabled a bid for Tom Rogic, the man currently training with Celtic in Marbella. A source in London said: “Rangers have made a firm offer, no ifs or buts, and no trials. It’s a straight-out bid and they want him in now. “It’s up to Tom, the Mariners and his management to *** whether it’s the right club for him but HArry Redknapp is keen and they are after a quick decision because they are looking to bring players in to help the club stay in the Premier League.”Liquid8
Old heads lift QPR Mark Buckingham was impressed by the way Queens Park Rangers called on experience to secure a 0-0 draw at home with HArry Redknapp's former club Tottenham Hotspur. HArry Redknapp faced Tottenham Hotspur for the first time on Saturday since his departure last summer and experience came to the fore as Queens Park Rangers delivered a disciplined performance to draw 0-0 at Loftus Road. One of the Premier League's elder statesman, Redknapp's game-plan worked to perfection as the old heads of goalkeeper Julio Cesar, defenders Clint Hill and Ryan Nelsen, and midfielder Shaun Derry all played vital roles. For Tottenham, it was probably one of their most disjointed performances and Andre Villas-Boas' side only really threatened in the opening stages of each half. Selection HArry Redknapp made two changes to his starting line-up from QPR's last Premier League game - the impressive 1-0 win at Chelsea. Esteban Granero was out with a hamstring injury, so Park Ji-sung came in for his first league sta ...
Premier League, Loftus Road - Queen's Park Rangers 0, Tottenham Hotspur 0. Queen's Park Rangers produced an admirable defensive performance to dig in for a 0-0 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Loftus Road. Despite dominating, Tottenham failed to turn their possession into goals in a largely turgid encounter. Julio Cesar produced a brilliant early double save to deny Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, while Shaun Wright-Phillips wasted the home team's best chances. Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas's frustration was increased by the loss of key midfielder Sandro to a first-half knee injury. The match had promised needle between HArry Redknapp and his successor Villas-Boas, a man for whom he supposedly has little regard. Even when repeatedly insisting on Friday he had "no problems at all" with the Portuguese, his words had the air of a man protesting too much. But after briefly hinting at a compelling spectacle, the match slumped into drudgery. The first half's standout moment came on fi ...

All the Barclays Premier League ahead of the weekend: WHATS YO PREDICTION. QPR v Tottenham. Was QPR’s 1-0 win at Chelsea a flash in the pan or has HArry Redknapp discovered the secret to the R’s success? It took a last-minute goal from Kieron Dyer to rescue a draw from last weekend’s FA Cup tie with West Brom and his reward was a cancelled contract in the middle of the week. Redknapp’s former club Spurs are flying, six wins from 10 away games helping to push them up to third place. Aston Villa v Southampton. Villa have won just two of their 10 home games in the Premier League and are reeling after a 3-1 Capital One Cup defeat at League Two Bradford City. The Saints have picked up just one win on their travels so far and are also smarting after a 5-1 home defeat by Chelsea in the FA Cup last weekend. But three straight draws in the League suggests Southampton have some good form desperate to show itself. Everton v Swansea. Bosingwa 'mystery' injury angers QPR Ex-Portugal international unavailable for selection QPR's Portuguese defender José Bosingwa has declared himself unable to train or play for the Premier League strugglers. The former Porto player has not played for the West London outfit since refusing to be a substitute in QPR's victory over Fulham last month. The full-back was subsequently fined two weeks wages and, according to The Sun newspaper, has not trained with Rangers since - having reportedly told his club that he is unavailable through injury. According to The Sun, those at Loftus Road are baffled by Bosingwa's injury news. "We are all wondering how he could have been injured when he hasn't even been training", said an 'insider' at the club. QPR manager HArry Redknapp is likely to give short shrift to Bosingwa, but may find it hard to shift a player who signed a three-year deal when he joined in the summer from Chelsea.
QPR Alerted as Tottenham Prepare to Sell Emmanuel Adebayor From the moment Emmanuel Adebayor converted his temporary move to a permanent one it seemed as though Andre Villas-Boas had little to do with the deal. The Togo international sat patiently on the bench waiting for his chance to prove himself, indeed after five appearances as a Premier League sub the former Arsenal man got himself sent off in his second start of the campaign at the Emirates Stadium. In recent weeks things have picked up for the 28 year old, with Villas-Boas attempting to play Adebayor with Jermain Defoe with positive results but talk of another possible striker signing, this source naming Brazilian Leandro Damiao, may well lead the White Hart Lane side to consider offers for Adebayor. HArry Redknapp made good use of Adebayor during his loan spell at Tottenham last term, the powerful forward netting 18 goals in all competitions whilst also laying on a fair few assists. Adebayor has elected to represent Togo in the African Nations Cu ...

QPR v West Brom: DJ Campbell, Rob Hulse and Jay Bothroyd to play in FA Cup. HArry Redknapp is promising to give the FA Cup the respect it deserves when his Queens Park Rangers host West Bromwich Albion in the third round on Saturday. The home team are battling against Premier League relegation and are expected to make changes for the cup tie against their top-flight rivals as survival is the priority. But Redknapp, an FA Cup-winning manager with Portsmouth in 2008, will not be taking the world's oldest cup competition lightly. Redknapp hopes for turning point West Brom will therefore need to be prepared for a tough game, especially as Steve Clarke will be taking an injury hit squad to London. The Baggies have also lost their last two Premier League games in what has been a difficult period for the Midlands club. And so Clarke, an FA Cup winner as a player and coach, respectively, with Chelsea in 1997 and 2007, will want a response and a confidence boost.

QPR chase revival against Liverpool DECEMBER 29, 2012 BY AGENCY REPORTER LEAVE A COMMENT Queens Park Rangers head into their clash with Liverpool knowing they must begin beating teams well above them in the English Premier League. While one of the key factors in surviving a relegation battle is to overcome the other teams at the bottom of the table, QPR have reached a point where they will also need to upset stronger sides if they are to pull off an escape act. QPR manager HArry Redknapp claimed after his team’s 2-1 loss against West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day that he was pleased with his players’ efforts, but having failed to pick up points the Premier League’s bottom club must find a way against Liverpool on Saturday. “They gave everything again today, I couldn’t have asked for more effort,” Redknapp told QPR’s official website. “We’ve just got to keep going, there’s nothing else you can do.” Redknapp led QPR on a four-game unbeaten run at the beginning of his tenure, including ...

QPR finally claim first win QPR brought the Premier League's longest ever winless start to a season to an end with their first victory of 2012-13, Adel Taarabt's brace sealing a 2-1 win against West London rivals Fulham Adel Taarabt's inspired performance proved the difference at Loftus Road as HArry Redknapp's side belatedly broke their duck with a narrow victory against their near neighbours. Few could have predicted the Hoops' winless start to a campaign, with a summer of high-profile acquisitions and ambitious plans raising expectations in Shepherd's Bush. Last weekend's draw at Wigan saw them break the record for the longest winless start to a Premier League season, with chairman Tony Fernandes this week admitting the season has been ``nothing short of a disaster``. The R's have, though, shown signs of improvement since Redknapp succeeded Mark Hughes at the helm, following up three successive draws with a first win - thanks in no small part to Taarabt.
