A man has been arrested and charged for allegedly confronting Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger during their 2-0 Premier League loss to Southampton on New Year's Day, reports the BBC. Luke Bryant, 25, from Lymington in Hampshire is said to have broken the laws outlined in the 1991 Football Offences Act by taking to the technical area and going up to Wenger. Mr Bryant will appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on January 22. The incident occurred with Wenger's Gunners side losing to their hosts and comes just weeks after the Frenchman was abused by supporters as he left Stoke City's Britannia Stadium. As is almost tradition every season now, many unhappy fans want the 65-year-old to leave the North London club for what they perceive as poor form from their team. Wenger was the subject of a campaign to force him out of the Emirates Stadium earlier in 2014/15 as well when a 'Wenger Out' banner was revealed during the match at West Bromwich Albion.
London: Alexis Sanchez helped maintain 10-man Arsenal`s Champions League push as his man-of-the-match display condemned Queens Park Rangers to a 2-1 Premier League defeat on Friday. The Chilean forward went from zero to hero after squandering an early penalty and then putting Arsenal ahead with a 37th-minute header. Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud was sent off for violent conduct before Sanchez`s mazy run carved out a second goal for Tomas Rosicky. Charlie Austin`s late penalty had nerves jangling at the Emirates Stadium, but it was too little, too late for QPR, who fell to a record-equalling ninth straight away defeat. In a bid to end his side`s woes away from Loftus Road, QPR manager Harry Redknapp recalled Rio Ferdinand for the first time since October and he formed part of a new three-man defensive set-up. But those carefully-laid plans should have been ...
Arsenal survived the sending-off of striker Olivier Giroud for a reckless head-butt to beat QPR 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium and close back up on the top four of the Premier League.
Newcastle United put on keeper alert Newcastle United could attempt to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan – after Rob Elliot joined Tim Krul on the sidelines. Elliot suffered a thigh injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Premier League leaders Chelsea at St James’s Park. And 21-year-old Jak Alnwick came off the bench for the second half. United manager Alan Pardew revealed after the game that Alnwick would be in goal for Saturday’s game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. However, if a scan on Elliot’s thigh reveals significant damage, the club could ask the Premier League if it could take a goalkeeper on an emergency loan – or sign a free agent. Manchester City signed Marton Fulop on a temporary deal from Sunderland in similar circumstances four and a half years ago. League regulations allow such a move outside the transfer window in “exceptional circumstances”. “I’ll have a scan on Monday and hope for the best,” Elliot told the Gazette. “Fingers crossed I won’t be out for ...

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hailed "fabulous" Alexis Sanchez after his late strike secured a 1-0 win over Southamptonin the Premier League on Wednesday. The London club looked set to have to settle for a point at the Emirates Stadium as they struggled to break down a spirited and resolute Southampton side. Fraser Forster produced sensational saves to deny Danny Welbeck twice and Olivier Giroud as Arsenal desperately pushed to force a winner which would move them up to sixth place. And it duly arrived one minute from the end, when Chile forward Alexis was on hand to ram home his 14th goal of an impressive debut season in England. Loading... The victory leaves Arsenal two points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United and Wenger praised the impact his big-money signing has made since his move from Barcelona. He told Arsenal's official website: "It's difficult to find examples of someone who has settled so quickly. He's had a fabulous impact on the team." Wenger acknowledged Arsenal were not at their fluent ...
Rooney's league goals vs Arsenal Wayne Rooney’s match-clinching goal on Saturday took his Premier League tally against Arsenal to 11 – that's more than any other player has scored against the Gunners. Nine of those strikes have been in Manchester United's colours and the Reds’ Emirates Stadium triumph gives us the perfect excuse to enjoy them again. The video above includes the effort Rooney netted to end the Invincibles’ 49-game unbeaten run in 2004, his counter-attacking Goal of the Season in 2009/10 and his spectacular hat-trick in the 8-2 thrashing in 2011, as well as his latest addition to the list: 24/10/2004: United 2-0 Arsenal 09/04/2006: United 2-0 Arsenal 21/01/2007: Arsenal 2-1 United 29/08/2009: United 2-1 Arsenal 31/01/2010: Arsenal 1-3 United 28/08/2011: United 8-2 Arsenal (hat-trick) 22/11/2014: Arsenal 1-2 United
Mikel Arteta knows Arsenal must be more ruthless after a defeat to Manchester United that the midfielder described as "not fair".United were 2-1 winners at the Emirates Stadium to move above Arsene Wenger's side in the Premier League table on Saturday. Arsenal lost by the same scoreline at Swansea City before the international break and are down in eighth place after the first 12 top-flight games. Captain Arteta felt the defeat was harsh on Arsene Wenger's side, but realises they must make the most of their dominance in matches if they are to challenge for honours. "I'm shocked," said the former Everton man. "I think we played our best game this season in terms of what we demand of ourselves - the quality in the way we attacked, how we won the ball back, how consistent we were throughout, the amount of chances we created. "When you are in the box and you can't manage to score in that many situations, you can't expect to win. "It's not fair for the players and the fans. How can I explain the result? I can' ...

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal always felt Arsenal would eventually prove vulnerable at the back after his side completed a smash-and-grab raid at the Emirates Stadium. United recorded their first away victory under the Dutch boss, winning 2-1 after weathering an early onslaught from the Gunners, when goalkeeper David De Gea saved a one-on-one chance from Jack Wilshere. The second half started with a bizarre own goal from defender Kieran Gibbs, who had clattered into goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Arsenal's keeper was forced off with a hip problem, which helped turn the momentum for United. Captain Wayne Rooney clipped home a late second goal on the break as Arsenal were exposed on the counter. Although Olivier Giroud, back from three months out with a broken foot, reduced the deficit with a 20- yard drive in stoppage-time, there was to be no grandstand finale to prevent Arsenal slipping to a second straight Premier League defeat. While the Gunners are down in eighth, United moved up to fourth pl ...
Manchester United moved above Arsenal in the Premier League table courtesy of a 2-1 victory over their old rivals at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon. Kieran Gibbs turned the ball into his own net to open the scoring 10 minutes after the restart, while Wayne Rooney added a second for the visitors with five minutes left of normal time. Olivier Giroud pulled a goal back in the fifth of eight minutes added time, but the Gunners could not find an equaliser in the closing stages as they slumped to a second consecutive defeat. Arsenal To Beat Chelsea To Signing Of Championship Starlet Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings looks likely to move to the Premier League in the near future as Arsenal join the race for his signature, according to the Mirror . The 21-year-old has been impressing in the second tier of English football and has already attracted the likes of Chelsea, Everton, Manchester United and Newcastle United. The Blues were believed to be leading the race for Mings having identified the Englishman as the ideal long-term successor to captain John Terry. However, Arsene Wenger is keen to beat his London rivals to the youngster as he looks to bolster his defence in the January transfer window. The Gunners started the 2014/15 season with only six recognised first team defenders and long-term injuries to Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny has reduced the squad to its bare bones. Wenger has been given £20m by the hierarchy at the Emirates Stadium and would be willing to sanction half of that to land Mings. The 65-year-old ...
11/10 draw 24/10 23/10 The English Premier League returns this weekend with an enthralling encounter as Arsenal and Manchester United renew their rivalry at the Emirates Stadium. United boast the better head to head stats as they are unbeaten in their last six meetings against The Gunners, winning four of them. However, Arsene Wenger will be confident of changing that history this time around as this is United’s worst start to the campaign. [ 790 more words. ]
Manchester City are reportedly preparing a bid for Arsenal play maker Mesut Ozil. The Germany international is thought to be unhappy at the Emirates Stadium, particularly with Arsene Wenger's choice to play him on the left side of midfield rather than in his preferred role behind the centre-forward. The 25-year-old has struggled for consistency since joining the Gunners from Real Madrid for a club-record fee of £42.5m in August 2013. Bayern Munich have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Ozil, but Premier League champions City are ready to fend off any competition by making a £35m bid for the midfielder. Ozil is currently sidelined until the beginning of 2015 with a knee injury. *Talking point - should Arsenal cash in on Ozil by selling him if City makes a concrete bid?"...
Wenger, Mourinho batter on Fabregas as Chelsea, Arsenal clash All eyes will be on Cesc Fabregas in the Premier League on Sunday when he plays his first game against former club Arsenal in the colours of new side Chelsea. Fabregas spent eight years with Arsenal, including three as captain, but when he returned to England from Barcelona in June, it was at Stamford Bridge that he alighted, rather than the Emirates Stadium. The 27-year-old has been an instant hit at Chelsea, supplying seven assists in eight games, but Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger says he has no regrets about not exercising an option to bring the midfielder back to the club. Asked if he believed that Fabregas would have preferred to return to Arsenal, Wenger said: “Certainly, yes. “I don’t want to make a big story of that because you have to accept that once he went to Barcelona — and it was the first separation, which was difficult for us — he could have gone anywhere else after. “I personally believe that deal (with Chelsea) was ...
Tottenham Hotspur-Arsenal Preview Arsenal are one of just two Premier League teams without a loss this season, yet Manager Arsene Wenger still finds himself the subject of criticism. His players could help quieten the skeptics on Saturday when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates in the first North London derby of the season, with the Gunners hoping to win three straight Premier League matches over their rivals for the first time. Injuries have turned the Arsenal defence into a pressing issue, and Wenger's management of the situation has drawn ire from a large section of the supporters for leaving the squad lacking depth in defence after deadline day. Help could be on the way with defenders Per Mertesacker and Kieran Gibbs said to be returning from injury. The duo were available only as substitutes in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Southampton at the Emirates Stadium, which sent the Gunners (2-3-0) out of the League Cup. Fellow defender Mathieu Debuchy will be out for an estimated three months after unde ...
Aston Villa 0 Arsenal 3: Ozil shines as Gunners get back on track Mesut Ozil answered his critics with a goal and an assist as Arsenal claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday. The Germany international has faced scrutiny in recent weeks after enduring a mixed start to his second season at the Emirates Stadium, but he helped the visitors put the disappointment of a midweek Uefa Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund behind them with an outstanding performance at Villa Park. Ozil opened the scoring with a calm finish inside the box before teeing up Danny Welbeck to open his Arsenal account two minutes later. And Aly Cissokho's own Goal.completed an incredible three-minute scoring spree, which Arsenal built on with a controlled second-half performance that saw them ease to three Premier League points. Villa's preparations had been hampered by a virus hitting Paul Lambert's squad, and the Scot was forced into a late change when Ashley Westwood pulled out of the warm-up to join Nathan ...
CITY HOLD ARSENAL IN 2-2 THRILLER Martin Demichelis headed a late equaliser as Manchester City drew 2-2 with potential title rivals Arsenal in a pulsating encounter at Emirates Stadium. City had taken a first-half lead through Sergio Aguero, only for Arsenal to respond with fine goals from Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez before veteran defender Demichelis earned the Premier League champions a point. Danny Welbeck was presented with an early chance to vindicate his selection as Arsenal’s main striker when he seized on David Silva’s poor pass, but the deadline day signing’s dink over Joe Hart came back off the post. Arsenal were in the ascendancy in the first half, but were rocked on their heels on 28 minutes when City broke with pace and Jesus Navas’ excellent low ball into the box was cleverly finished by Aguero. The home side levelled on 63 minutes when Aaron Ramsey played in Wilshere, who skipped past former team-mate Gael Clichy before lifting a delightful shot over Joe Hart into the net. Wils ...
Fabregas: Chelsea my priority Cesc Fabregas admits he retains an emotional connection to Arsenal but says this will not prevent him giving his all against them for new club Chelsea. Former Arsenal midfielder and captain Fabregas, 27, joined Chelsea this summer from Barcelona in a £30million deal, after the Gunners decided against taking up an option to bring him back to the Emirates. Chelsea play Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in a game that is live on Sky Sports on Sunday, October 5. When asked by Spanish newspaper El Pais about the prospect of playing for one of Arsenal’s rivals, Fabregas said: "Don't think I didn't think about it. “I will keep the Gunner feeling forever and I know that I will return to Highbury (Emirates Stadium) and it will be a special moment, but I am a committed guy. "I remind you that I played the Champions League final against Barcelona (with Arsenal) and I swear I would have done anything to win that game - and I have been a Barcelona fan since I was a kid. Arsene Wenger believes keeping Arsenal.competitive in their barren years has been the most important achievement of his reign. Winning last season's FA Cup final gave the Gunners their first piece of silverware in nine years, a trophy drought which had seen some question whether the 64-year-old Frenchman was still the right man to take the club forward. Having delivered three Premier League titles since taking the reigns in 1996, Wenger has also overseen a move to the Emirates Stadium - a decision which left the club unable to compete financially with other title rivals for almost a decade. In the intervening years after leaving Highbury, Wenger still managed to guide Arsenal to top-four finishes in every season and finally ended his trophy jinx with a 3-2 win over Hull in May.

Arsenal Preparing £25m Transfer Swoop In Coming Days Gunners ready to make their move for Calum Chambers and Nani. Arsenal are ready to ramp up their summer transfer business once again, with Manager Arsene Wenger now plotting a double swoop from Premier League rivals that could cost the Gunners a cool £25 million. Reports in recent days have linked Arsenal with a move for winger Nani from potential title rivals Manchester United, with the Metro suggesting that new United manager Louis Van Gaal sees no place for the Portuguese in his new-look system and that a move to North London could be imminent. It now seems, however, that Nani could be joined at the Emirates Stadium by young Southampton right back Calum Chambers, who is being linked with a £16m move to the club in the coming days by the Daily Echo, the local paper on the South Coast. Chambers would initially offer cover to first choice right back Mathieu Debuchy, who has only signed for the Gunners from Newcastle United this summer, but would also ...

Away from the pitch, Arsenal have flourished. The move to the Emirates Stadium has had a huge impact on the clubs economics. In 2011/12 (the last season for which we have access to complete financial figures for every club), Arsenal turned over a staggering £235 million. That’s the third-highest figure in England, and, according to football finance blogger Swiss Ramble, it could rise to £300 million by the end of this season. Arsenal’s profits are impressive too. In 2011/12 they recorded the highest profit before tax of any Premier League club (£37 million). That’s no anomaly, either: the last five years have seen the Gunners rake in an incredible £190 million in profit. While other football clubs financially implode around them, Arsenal have not made a loss since 2002. Unfortunately, it’s almost as long since Arsenal won a major trophy. It is now more than eight years since a Patrick Vieira penalty kick allowed them to beat Manchester United to win the FA Cup. Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images From ...

How Wenger should improve his squad over the summer. The 2013/14 season was a solid if unremarkable one for Arsenal, who finished fourth in the Premier League once again, but did break their trophy drought by winning the FA Cup. However, after topping the English top tier for more days than any other side last term Arsene Wenger will be keen for his team to show more consistency and grit to hold onto a lead. Therefore the Frenchman is expected to enter the transfer market this summer and sign a number of new players and here are the five CaughtOffside thinks will help Wenger's men win the English title in 2014/15. Serge Aurier, Toulouse With Bacary Sagna having confirmed he is leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer when his contract expires, Wenger needs to find a new right-back - especially with question marks over the capabilities of backup Carl Jenkinson. DON'T BE SURPRISE IF THIS HAPPEN. Chelsea reject Samuel Eto'o wants to join Arsenal this summer to prove to former manager Jose Mourinho that he still has what it takes to play in the Premier League. The Daily Mirror reports how the Cameroonian striker - who was released by the Blues upon the expiry of his contract - is keen to move to North London to prolong his stay in England. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements to provide cover for Olivier Giroud at the Emirates Stadium next season, and is believed to be considering a number of possible options. Eto'o would not cost Arsenal anything, but his wages might prove to be a sticking point, unless the former Chelsea man is prepared to take a significant cut to what he was earning at Stamford Bridge. The 33-year-old has already received lucrative offers from the MLS, but has made clear his desire to remain in the Premier League, and ordered his representatives to sound out Arsenal about the possibility of a potential trans ...

Arsenal are set to kick-start their summer spending with a £10million move for Manchester City’s James Milner. The Gunners are looking to add a box-to-box midfielder to their ranks, and the England international fits the bill. *Liverpool are keen to add more firepower to their already fearsome attack next season with Swansea striker Wilfried Bony and Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez both attracting the interest of manager Brendan Rodgers. Bony made a huge impact in his first campaign in the Premier League – scoring 25 goals in all competitions for the Swans. Meanwhile, Chilean forward Alexi Sanchez is another on the Reds radar. Sanchez has scored 21 times for the Catalans this season, including a fine strike in the final day 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid. Rodgers is said ...
I`M NOT A 25M PLAYER.Arteta. Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has criticised the club’s stance when it comes to contract renewals for players aged over 30, and concedes he is unsure about his future at the Emirates Stadium. Arteta, aged 32, will see his current deal expire next summer and will sit down with the club at the end of the season to *** his position. The Gunners have a policy whereby players of 30-years-old and over are offered only one-year contract extensions when their respective agreements expire - something that has led to the premature departures of a number of stars. This stance is set to see Bacary Sagna leave Arsenal this summer, with the French full-back set to accept a free transfer to Manchester City, with the Premier League champions prepared to offer him more secure and lucrative terms. And the prospects for Arteta do not appear to be particularly positive, despite being something of a mainstay in the Arsenal midfield, with the Spaniard likely to be more dispensable than Sagna .. ...

Giroud marked his first season in North London with 17 goals, and Szczesny hopes that the 27-year-old can make further strides in the 2014-15 campaign. "Not only does he score goals, but he works very hard for the team and his hold-up play is very good. "So he keeps improving and hopefully next season he will be even better for us." Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger Wants To Sign Strike Partner For Olivier Giroud. Wenger wants the Gunners to recruit an attacker that has the ability to play alongside Giroud, or instead of him. Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is keen to sign a striker this summer. The Gunners have used four forwards in the Premier League this season – Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski, Yaya Sanogo and Nicklas Bendtner. However, Sanogo and Bendtner have made just one start between them, while Podolski missed four months of the campaign due to a hamstring injury. As a result, Giroud has started 35 of Arsenal’s 37 top-flight games. Bendtner will be allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium when his contract expires in June, but Wenger is keen to keep hold of Giroud, who has three years left to run on his current deal. Wenger admits that Giroud has been over relied upon this season and the longest serving manager in England is keen to recruit some support for the 27-year-old. “Maybe we have over-played him at so ...
Arsenal 1-0 West Brom: Giroud header enough for Gunners Olivier Giroud's 16th Premier League goal of the season sealed a 1-0 victory for Arsenal over West Brom at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The Frenchman met Santi Cazorla's left-wing corner with a powerful downward header in the 14th minute, ensuring Arsene Wenger's men picked up their fourth successive league win. VIEW FROM THE EMIRATES STADIUM By George Ankers Arsenal could have applied much more of a killer edge to this match but, in what was essentially a dead rubber, they did what they had to and no more. Olivier Giroud got the goal by taking advantage of weak marking at a first-half corner - though a late confrontation with Graham Dorrans might see him under a little scrutiny after the game. Mesut Ozil was the brightest spark, the man who least faded after the break, and Abou Diaby returned to the bench if not the pitch; the two biggest pluses for Arsene Wenger. The fans, meanwhile, were most concerned with loudly trying to convince Bacary Sagn ...

Premier League REPORT Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle United Arsenal edged ever closer to securing its spot in the Uefa Champions League with an emphatic win over Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium. Goals from Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Özil and Olivier Giroud gave the Gunners three more points, while for Newcastle United it was yet another disappointing result. The loss represents the first time in 27 years that Newcastle has lost six successive top flight matches, which for Arsenal it remained unbeaten for the 17th consecutive Premier League home match. Premier League team news: Arsenal v Newcastle Arsenal expect to have captain Thomas Vermaelen back from a hamstring problem for Monday night's Barclays Premier League clash against Newcastle. Midfielder Abou Diaby will not be rushed into a return from a serious knee injury after reporting a slight groin problem after playing for the Under-21s in midweek. Defender Kieran Gibbs (hamstring) is still sidelined along with England midfielder Jack Wilshere (foot), Serge Gnabry and Theo Walcott (both knee). Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will hope for a further fitness boost ahead the trip to Arsenal. Midfielder Moussa Sissoko is back in training after missing the last three games with a hamstring problem and could feature at the Emirates Stadium, while full-back Mathieu Debuchy and striker Loic Remy could return to the starting line-up after appearing as substitutes in last weekend's 2-1 home defeat by Swansea. - CLIMB BACK INTO 4TH Tag fellow Gooners Podolski and Olivier Giroud fired Arsenal back into the Premier League top four as the Gunners came from behind to defeat West Ham 3-1 at Emirates Stadium. Giroud's superb strike early in the second half helped secure a first win in five Premier League outings for the FA Cup finalists. Matt Jarvis had nodded the Hammers into the lead late in the first half. Giroud then made amends for his earlier misses in stunning style, bringing down Vermaelen's deep ball to the back post with a deft touch from his left boot and then firing beyond Adrian Aaron Ramsey then played a key role in Arsenal's third, with his fine cushioned header from Giroud's cross releasing Podolski to fire over Adrian to make the points safe for the Gunners. Newcastle United have sold out their allocations for their final two away games of the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League campaign. The Magpies travel to Arsenal on Monday, 28th April (8pm kick-off), followed by a trip to title-chasers Liverpool on the last day of the season - Sunday, 11th May (3pm kick-off). And United fans have wasted no time in snapping up every seat for the fixtures, with 2,000 supporters heading to the Emirates Stadium, and a further 2,800 filling the away end at Anfield. Despite the away-day sell-outs, fans can still secure their tickets for Newcastle's final two top flight home games, against Swansea City and Cardiff City.
Time for all Arsenal fans to welcome a life without Arsene Wenger. No one can deny all the good Arsene Wenger has done for Arsenal football club but equally no one, one would have surmised, can also deny that he has presided over an extended period of failure that simply must not be allowed to continue. There are some who have made their minds up long ago as to whether Wenger is the man to continue to lead the Emirates Stadium side but now is perhaps the time to pause for thought and look at things in a calm, composed and logical manner. If you all emotion from the debate, admittedly next to impossible, and just look at the ‘facts on the ground’ and it seems fair to say the Arsene Wenger is nearing the end of the road. Even the securing of an FA Cup triumph, then bringing to an end a eight season silverware drought, will be diminished by the level of opposition left in the competition. Arsenal’s route to such success doesn’t even require them to defeat a top half of the Premier League which leaves ...
Everton entertain Arsenal on Sunday in what could prove to be the defining match in the race for a top four in the Barclays Premier League. Arsenal are in the driving seat for the final Uefa Champions League qualification spot, although a run of five consecutive wins has moved Everton to within four points of their visitors with a game in hand. That means another victory this weekend would put Roberto Martinez's side in control of their own destiny, with Arsenal's challenge faltering after a return of just 13 points from their last 10 Premier League outings.  The sides have met twice at the Emirates Stadium this season, drawing 1-1 in the league in December before Arsenal ran out 4-1 winners in the FA Cup quarter-final last month. Martinez, who is without captain Phil Jagielka (hamstring) and Steven Pienaar (knee), believes his side will have added motivation for the crucial clash following their Cup exit. "The game we played in the quarter-final of the FA Cup left us with a sour taste," said the Spa ...
The Gunners find themselves in the healthiest financial positions since moving to the Emirates Stadium in 2006 and are set to drive home that advantage by handing Arsene Wenger a £100m transfer budget. New sponsorship deals with Emirates and Puma have added around £40m a season to Arsenal's income while financial fair play restrictions are set to restrict their big-spending rivals. It makes Arsenal more competitive in this summer's transfer window than at any time in the last decade. Now Wenger is ready to dust off the chequebook after years of frugality and bid big for established world-class stars in a bid to establish themselves as Premier League title challengers. Amongst the list of world-class stars being cited as potential signing are Bayern Munich's Mandzukic, Schalke's Draxler and Porto's Martinez, who would all add attacking flair to the Arsenal line-up. It seems the emphasis in this summer's transfer market will be towards signing established attacking stars for Wenger, who has had to rely on ...

Wenger's excuses The Gunners have lost ground on Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City after dropping points in their last two matches, but they have a chance to build momentum when City visit Emirates Stadium on Saturday. "It's all to go for I think, for everybody," Wenger told Arsenal.com. "Everybody speaks about Everton coming back on us [to challenge for fourth place]. Why should we then not come back on the teams who are in front of us? "There's still a lot of turning games that will happen until the end of the season. But it's down to the quality of our performances. "We don't think about the title race now, we think about winning again and [this week's results] show you how small the differences are between the Premier League teams. "You see last night with Liverpool and Sunderland. You can see how big the mental blow is when you lose a big game, [for example] Real Madrid lost against Barcelona, and they lost again last night. "So for us just to recover in a positive way against Swansea was very i ...
England Posted on March 26, 2014 by john Wenger: This result hurts us a lot(AFP) Arsene Wenger admitted Arsenal have probably blown their chance of winning the English Premier League title after a frustrating 2-2 draw against Swansea City. Wenger’s side are six points behind leaders Chelsea with only seven games left following the latest setback to their spluttering challenge at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
City condemn Man United to a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford to go second in Premier League table with two games in hand. Arsenal conceded a last gasp own goal to share the spoils with Swansea 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium. Everton's fine form continued as they beat Newcastle 3-0 to maintain 5th spot in the log. Bayern Munich sealed their 24th Bundesliga title with a comfortable 3-1 win over Hertha Berlin.
Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich star Mario Mandzukic, but it could spark a Premier League transfer tussle between them and two of their biggest rivals in Arsenal and Manchester United. Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for some more firepower in the centre-forward positions and has been told Mandzukic is ready to leave the Allianz Arena in the summer, according to The Sun. However, the report also claims both Arsene Wenger and David Moyes could be ready to step in and pitch the benefits of Emirates Stadium and Old Trafford respectively if it looks like an offer will be made out of Stamford Bridge. Though it is the Blues whom have been given the first green light by the Croatia international's camp. Arsenal and Chelsea are in similar situations in that both clubs have what many believe to be insufficient personnel in the centre-forward position. Mourinho has a number of options in the form of Fernanado Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba, but none of them have been able to consistent ...
Arsenal exited the Champions League at the first knockout stage for the fourth year in a row after drawing at holders Bayern Munich. A dominant Bayern, leading 2-0 from the first leg, had a Javi Martinez volley ruled out for offside before the break. Bastian Schweinsteiger gave Bayern the lead from close range before Lukas Podolski shot high into the net to level the score on the night. Thomas Muller had a late penalty saved as Bayern won 3-1 on aggregate. Arsenal's European exit leaves them just two more chances to end a nine-year trophy drought this season. Arsene Wenger's men are in the FA Cup semi-final and seven points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea. The damage was done in the first leg at Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal will rue an early missed penalty by Mesut Ozil and the dismissal of goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Few gave the Gunners much chance of overturning the 2-0 deficit at the defending European and German champions, who won a record 16th Bundesliga game in a row against Wolfsburg on ...
Boss takes heart from December's draw with Arsenal. Roberto Martinez says he is happy not be walking to into the 'unknown' when it comes to trying to undo Arsenal on their own patch. The Spaniard takes his Everton team to Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon attempting to plot a route through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Martinez's men were full value for their 1-1 draw when they travelled to North London in the Premier League three months ago, but the Blues boss can also call on the know-how gained from a 2-1 win over the Gunners while manager of Wigan Athletic in May 2012. “It’s important for everyone to go somewhere and have a clear picture of what’s needed,” Martinez told evertontv. “The worse thing in football - and probably life - is the unknown. "The fixture in December gave us all a clear indication of what's needed if you want to be successful at the Emirates, and I think it's reaching that level of perfection to which we aspire. "In the past, when a team has been able to be succ ...
On Saturday three of the Premier League title contenders were in action, and they were all embroiled in late drama, battling displays and most importantly… crucial wins. Chelsea beat Everton with a late, late winner at Stamford Bridge, Manchester City edged out Stoke with a workmanlike display, Manchester United’s star duo of RVP and Wayne Rooney saw off Palace and Arsenal battered Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium. Elsewhere there were big wins for Hull City and West Ham United, while relegation battlers West Brom and Fulham drew. Drink it in, my friends. Arsenal responded to Chelsea's win against Everton earlier in the day by thrashing Sunderland 4-1 at home to stay a point behind the table topping Blues. The Gunners exploded out of the blocks with a goal from Olivier Giroud after just five minutes, with the recalled Frenchman pouncing after a good move ended with the ball falling kindly for the striker. A terrible Sergio Vergini backpass gifted Giroud his second with half an hour gone, before Tomas Rosicky dinked a lovely finish over former Gunners goalkeeper Vito Mannone, to put the finishing touch on a typically top class, rat-a-tat passing move from Wenger's side. Regardless of their cup heroics, Sunderland will struggle to stay in the Premier League if they continue to perform as they did at the Emirates Stadium, but then again Gus Poyet will be thankful they won't be playing opponents of Arsenal's quality every week. A free second half header from Laurent Koscielny put Arsenal four up on 57 minutes, as Sunderland's defence went AWOL again, but the t ...
Arsenal v Bayern Munich: The win that kick-started a Gunners revival Comments (276) Arsenal face Champions League holders Bayern Munich at Emirates Stadium after taking two significant steps on the road to recovery from their public humiliation at Liverpool. Manager Arsene Wenger knew his side needed a response to that 5-1 defeat at Anfield with their season reaching defining moments on three fronts. This has been achieved with a solid, if unspectacular, clean sheet in the goalless draw at home to Manchester United and then by exacting revenge on Liverpool with an FA Cup fifth round victory at the Emirates. So with the Premier League ship steadied and FA Cup progress secured, the greatest test of all now comes in the shape of a last-16 Champions League meeting with Bayern, arguably Europe's finest side now under the guidance of coach Pep Guardiola, twice a winner in this competition with Barcelona. And with confidence being rebuilt in the past week, can Arsenal take further solace in their victory in The ...
ARSENAL'S FEBRUARY CURSE 2007 A bleak month saw FA Cup defeat against Blackburn, League Cup final misery against Chelsea and a Champions League loss against PSV Eindhoven all on the menu. They left a bitter taste in Wenger's mouth. 2008: The infamous 2-2 draw against Birmingham -- when striker Eduardo broke his leg and skipper William Gallas cried at the final whistle -- was noted by Wenger as the day his team's bid for Premier League glory took a fatal turn. 2009: Hardly Arsenal's worst February, but 0-0 home draws against Fulham and Sunderland deepened the growing sense of frustration around Emirates Stadium. They again ended the season without a trophy. 2010: A comprehensive defeat at Chelsea and a Champions League defeat at Porto put a major dent in Arsenal's ambitions. They recovered to progress in Europe, but the season ended in disappointment once more. 2011: Surrendering a 4-0 lead to draw at Newcastle and failing to beat Leyton Orient in the FA Cup was bad enough, but Arsenal's despair plunged to ...

Break for Arsenal's Push for Glory By James McNicholas on January 26, 2014 Next Scott Heppell All season long, Arsenal fans have stared at their fixture list for March with a sense of foreboding. Arsenal will face fixtures against Bayern Munich, Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton. However, there’s also an absolutely vital period on the immediate horizon. If Arsenal fail to perform in February, those fixtures could be rendered almost redundant. During the coming month, Arsenal will be tested on three fronts. At present, Arsenal are still in the running for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup. Poor performances next month could see their odds of winning any of those competitions significantly reduced. Let’s take the Champions League. On March 19, Arsenal host Bayern Munich. Arsene Wenger will hope his team have learnt the lessons of last season: When the two sides met in this competition in 2012/13, the first leg was also at the Emirates Stadium. Wenger experience trumps Sherwood enthusiasm Tim Sherwood is the 11th Tottenham manager to cross Arsene Wenger's path since his appointment at Arsenal - and his task of succeeding where others have failed was laid out within 90 minutes. It was only in March that Andre Villas-Boas made a comment that has achieved some notoriety when he suggested a North London derby victory for Spurs had sent Arsenal, and by association Wenger, into a "negative spiral". Fast forward 10 months and the sacked Villas-Boas awaits his next employment opportunity as Wenger presides over a rejuvenated Arsenal on top of the Premier League and into the FA Cup fourth round after a comfortable 2-0 win over their fiercest rivals at Emirates Stadium. As Spurs chairman Daniel Levy changes tack once more, Arsenal remain steadfast in their desire for continuity and faith in Wenger, despite his failure to win a trophy since 2005's FA Cup. And after a spell when the gap appeared to be closing between the two clubs, with hints that Spurs mig ...

-johnom Arsenal emphasised their current superiority over Tottenham with a comfortable FA Cup third round victory at Emirates Stadium. Arsene Wenger has set his sights on an extended FA Cup run as his side stand top of the Premier League table - and they were never in serious danger as they dominated this North London derby to move into the next round. Santi Cazorla's powerful finish put the hosts ahead in the first half and Danny Rose's dreadful error allowed Tomas Rosicky to race half the length of the field to score just after the hour. The only downside for Arsenal was the sight of Theo Walcott being carried off on a stretcher in the closing minutes after appearing to catch his studs in the turf as he raced back to make a defensive tackle. “ In terms of imagination, invention and a little guile Arsenal had it in midfield, while Tottenham didn't have any. London (AFP) - Premier League leaders Arsenal overcame fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, while Aston Villa were dumped out by third-tier Sheffield United. Tottenham had won at Manchester United in their previous outing and new manager Tim Sherwood made only one change to his starting XI, but his side fell behind in the 31st minute at the Emirates Stadium. German teenager Serge Gnabry was the architect, picking the ball up wide on the Arsenal right and driving infield before finding Santi Cazorla, who speared a left-foot shot past Hugo Lloris. Spurs were unable to react and Tomas Rosicky sealed victory in the 62nd minute, robbing Danny Rose on halfway and bearing down on goal before adroitly lifting the ball over the advancing Lloris. The game ended on a sour note for Arsenal when forward Theo Walcott had to be stretchered off after falling awkwardly, but he showed that he remained in high spirits by goading the visiting fans as he was carried away. "The game was pl ...
Pepe Reina says he now "thinks only of Napoli" John Powell Pepe Reina has admitted Arsenal were interested in signing him over the summer - but now says he only thinks of Napoli. The goalkeeper, on loan at Serie A side Napoli, spoke out ahead of tonight's Champions League match between the two sides at the Emirates Stadium. The Spanish international, 31, on loan from Liverpool, told the Sun: "The interest of Arsenal in my services? "Now I think only of Napoli. "But to come back to England with Napoli against Arsenal in London is special." He added: "Arsenal are top of the Premier League but we are second in Serie A - and it looks like developing into a big season for us. "There is no clear favourite in this game. "We're very confident but it's a tough group and an away point would mean a very positive result for us."

Compliment Theo Walcott believes that Chelsea’s “negative” tactical approach to Monday’s goalless draw should be taken as a compliment by Arsenal. The Blues battled hard to earn a point at a wet and windy Emirates Stadium as a cagey affair ended all square and left the Gunners level on points with Premier League leaders Liverpool. And although the England international was surprised by the visitors’ approach to the game, he feels that it underlines Arsenal’s threat as a fellow title rival to José Mourinho’s men. “It was a shame we didn’t create too many chances but when you have a team who come here to be negative, it’s difficult to break them down,” Walcott told the London Evening Standard. It gives us a lot of pleasure to know a team like Chelsea are very cautious when they play Arsenal Theo Walcott “I was a little bit surprised by Chelsea’s approach. Looking at the team they had attacking players in Eden Hazard, Willian and Fernando Torres. “They did go for it at stages but ...
'Boring, boring Chelsea' chanted the Arsenal fans at Jose Mourinho after Monday's drab 0-0 draw in the Premier League, and the Portuguese coach did not disagree. "I agree, I've played against (Arsenal) 10 times and never lost, what more do you call me?" Mourinho, who once again won the tactical battle against Arsene Wenger at a rainswept Emirates Stadium, told reporters. "What are they going to say? 'Funny, Funny Jose'? Ten times and they don't win once.
Liverpool will be top of the Premier League on Christmas Day after Arsenal and Chelsea played out a goalless draw in driving rain at the Emirates Stadium. Jose Mourinho's men wasted the two best chances of a cagey first half, with Frank Lampard striking the underside of the crossbar with a fierce volley and Willian forcing a low save from Wojciech Szczesny. Clear chances remained at a premium after the break, but Olivier Giroud spurned two big opportunities for either side on the night and Cesar Azpilicueta cleared Bacary Sagna's header off the line late on. Jose Mourinho made it 10 matches against Arsene Wenger as Blues manager without suffering defeat as the Gunners saw their winless Premier League run extended to three games. Wenger made four changes from the side beaten 6-3 by Manchester City last time out, Thomas Vermaelen replacing the injured Laurent Koscielny in defence, while Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta came in for the suspended Jack Wilshere and Mathieu Flamini in midfield. Cost effective options that could boost the Emirates Stadium side's push to end their lengthy silverware drought. 1..Dimitar Berbatov (Fulham) Bulgarian could well be available in January with Fulham said to be ready to allow the experienced forward to leave and the 32 year old could add some much needed strength in depth to the Arsenal attack. Wouldn't cost much and as long as Gunners fans can ignore the striker's previous Tottenham allegiance it's the type of addition that could well aid a Premier League title push. Arsenal have been overly reliant on Olivier Giroud thus far this season, especially with Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski suffering with injury concerns, so a move for Berbatov could well not be as fanciful as it at first seems. Berbatov is a proven Premier League goal- scorer having scored a total of 91 goals in 221 top tier appearances, of which 34 came from the bench. 2..Konstantinos Mitroglou (Olympiakos) Greek striker can't stop scoring and Olympiakos are not in a financial position to d ...

Steve Bruce gave Arsenal his backing for the Premier League title after the Gunners defeated his side 2-0 at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has warned his players must not let successive Premier League defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea derail what has so far been a promising campaign. The Saints host Aston Villa on Wednesday looking to recover from back-to-back losses against sides challenging for the title which have seen his team slip out of the top four. However, Pochettino believes Southampton can take confidence from their performances at the Emirates Stadium - where a blunder by goalkeeper Artur Boruc gifted the Gunners their opening goal - and then Stamford Bridge on Sunday, when the visitors had gone ahead after just 13 seconds through Jay Rodriguez only to eventually lose 3-1 following injury to Boruc who suffered a broken hand which will sideline him for up to six weeks. "We don't have time to dwell on our two consecutive defeats because we are only thinking about tomorrow's game," Pochettino said at a press conference. "All we can do is recover, to get our energy back and try to fix the mistakes ...
Premier League, the Emirates Stadium - Arsenal 2 (Giroud 22, 86 pen) Southampton 0 An Olivier Giroud brace secured a 2-0 win over Southampton for Arsenal, who had Artur Boruc to thank for the first goal. Southampton’s success this season has been built on sturdy foundations this season and they began as expected with a high line couple paired with some impressive pressing. Arsenal were in imperious form though and hit the post twice – first through Jack Wilshere and then Aaron Ramsey – before Southampton goalkeeper Boruc’s moment of madness. Having received a rudimentary back pass from Nathaniel Clyne, he dithered before attempting to Cruyff turn himself out of trouble – Giroud read it though and slotted home. The visitors improved as the half wore on and would have been at parity had it not been for the smart reflexes of Wojciech Szczesny, who did supremely well to push a Jay Rodriguez scissor kick wide of the goal five minutes before half-time. Southampton put in a much improved second half pe ...

Dortmund (Germany) (AFP) - Premier League leaders Arsenal avenged their Champions League home defeat to Borussia Dortmund a fortnight ago with a 1-0 victory in Germany on Wednesday. Having lost 2-1 at London's Emirates Stadium, the Gunners claimed revenge at Borussia's Westfalenstadion as Welshman Aaron Ramsey headed the only goal of the match played in heavy rain. "It's a difficult place to get a result, but the fans were magnificent," said Ramsey. "They got behind us and we managed to get the win for them. "We were very good defensively and we were also very patient. "It was a great away performance and a great result." Arsenal deserved the victory having taken their chance during a bright second-half spell and absorbed huge amounts of first-half pressure from the hosts who had peppered the Gunners' goal. "We had a bit of luck in London and we were punished for it tonight," fumed Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller. "Unfortunately, we lacked a bit of purpose going forward and we wanted to do things a ...
The days of summer must seem a distant memory to Arsenal supporters. In those pre-Mesut Ozil days, some Gunners fans were reaching a level of anger towards Arsene Wenger that hadn't been seen during his 17 years at the club. Certainly eight years without a trophy didn't help. But then, despite proclamations from above about their spending power and ability to compete in the market, only Yaya Sanogo, a largely untested French under-20 international signed on a free from Auxerre, arrived before the big kick off and patience appeared to be running out in some quarters for the French manager. Opening day arrived and a hungry counter-attacking Aston Villa caused havoc, breaking through a weak midfield, seemingly at will, and left the Emirates with a 3-1 win. "Spend some f* money" went the cry. Fast forward to the present day and the Emirates Stadium is content once more and the atmosphere has changed considerably. Some 11 wins out of 12 in all competitions see them riding top of both the Premier League and the ...
1) Arsenal must now repeat Liverpool performance at Old Trafford One of the principle narrative strands before Arsenal took on Liverpool at Emirates Stadium ran loosely along the following lines: Arsenal had yet to play any contenders in the Premier League, apart from Tottenham Hotspur at home, and their start had actually compared unfavourably to the points that they took from the corresponding fixtures last season. Moreoever, when they faced Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and Chelsea in the Capital One Cup, they had lost. Defeat to Liverpool would have led to a forensic examination of their credentials against the fancied clubs and, doubtless, plenty of angst. But Arsenal won, they won really well and now, the whispers are about whether they might stay the title course. They would become louder if they got a result at Manchester United on Sunday. This is a time of palpable excitement for Gooners. • Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool: read the match report 2) Are Norwich waiting in the wings for Mackay? ...

Mourinho will give his fringe players an opportunity in Chelsea's second match in three days. The players who featured in Sunday's Premier League defeat of Manchester City will be rested, with a similar side selected to the one which won the previous round of the League Cup at Swindon. Mesut Ozil scored his first two Premier League goals as Arsenal beat Norwich 4-1 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The biggest and best surprises are usually worth the wait. Mesut Ozil may not have joined the Gunners until the very end of the summer transfer window, but his arrival was enough to spark thousands of dreams among the Arsenal faithful. The German playmaker has been widely viewed as one of the world’s very best over the past few years, and his signing can be described as a coup for any Premier League club. Europe’s top chance-creator in the last five years will be weaving his patterns on the Emirates Stadium turf from now on - and, shortly after signing, he spoke of his desire to help Arsenal bring major honours to North London. “It’s very exciting," smiles the German schemer. "This is a perfect decision for me and I’m looking forward to it all.” The move came to the public consciousness pretty quickly - but Mesut explains that his decision to join Arsenal’s drive for success was a highly considered one. “I chose Arsenal because they are one of the top clubs in England,” he states. “The ...

Andrey Arshavin, William Gallas and Yossi Benayoun are among the biggest names to leave their clubs after the Premier League confirmed the players to depart each team at the end of their contracts this summer. Transfer Talk 5/2 Wayne Rooney is 5/2 with Bet365 to join Arsenal this summer The Russian attacking midfielder, who joined the Gunners for £15 million in 2009, joins Denilson and Sebastien Squillaci in leaving the Emirates Stadium after failing to make the matchday squad for a league game since January. Gallas exits White Hart Lane, his third London club, alongside winger David Bentley (also a one-time £15m signing) after falling behind the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Michael Dawson in the centre-back pecking order. Benayoun heads a list of decorated but second-choice names on their way out of Chelsea, with Paulo Ferreira, Hilario, Ross Turnbull and Florent Malouda all released. Manchester United have not let go any first-team players, with the exception of the retiring Paul Scholes, though Liver ...
Key moments of 2012/13 10 key moments from Arsenal's campaign. A NEW START It hadn’t been an easy summer for Arsenal. The departures of Robin Van Persie and Alex Song had, understandably, raised question marks in supporters’ minds about the Gunners’ ability to compete for honours. On the flip side, there was curiosity as to how new signings Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla would fare in their debut Premier League campaigns as an expectant Emirates Stadium crowd settled in for the season opener against Sunderland on August 18. They saw Cazorla set the tone for what would be an outstanding personal season in which he played more games than any other Arsenal player, while Giroud - despite missing a couple of presentable chances - demonstrated his nose for an opportunity. There was also the first clean sheet of several early-season shut0outs, a theme that would return in timely fashion at the end of the campaign. The game itself finished goalless, but a string of fresh narratives had bee ...
FA Cup winner Wigan Athletic was relegated from the Premier League as Arsenal moved up into the top four with an emphatic 4-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that a statue of Dennis Bergkamp is to be unveiled at Emirates Stadium to commemorate the Dutch striker’s huge contribution to the Gunners. Bergkamp joined Arsenal from Inter Milan in June 1995 and went on to make a total of 423 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 120 goals, during which time he treated Gunners supporters to some of the most exhilarating and skilful play by any Arsenal player ever. During Bergkamp’s 11 years with the Club, he played an integral part in Arsenal winning seven major honours, including the Invincibles’ unbeaten Premier League season of 2003/04. The statue of Dennis Bergkamp is still in its early construction phase and the unveiling is planned to take place before the start of next season. It will be located outside Emirates Stadium, and joins three other statues of Arsenal Legends currently on the Podium around the Gunners’ home, those of Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry, which were unveiled in December 2011 ...
WENGER SOLELY TO BLAME by sam Arsene Wenger should be held solely responsible if the Gunners finish yet another season empty-handed. For all their talk of learning from the shock defeat against Bradford City in the League Cup, Arsenal suffered the same fate when Blackburn came to visit last weekend. The FA Cup was Arsene Wenger’s most realistic chance of ending the club’s eight year trophy drought, but the Emirates Stadium faithful were treated to yet another painful, insipid display. It puzzles me how the Gunners could possibly have approached the match with such a nonchalant attitude when their standing in the Premier League table is a clear indication of how poorly they have performed this season. Perhaps they were simply taking cues from their French boss. While Wenger supporters will argue that the team put out against Rovers possessed sufficient quality to win the tie, I believe it was a big mistake for the Arsenal boss to have rested so many of his key players. He undoubtedly did so with Champi ...

Wenger pushed through the deal, believed to be for £8.5m, after Gibbs hobbled off with a thigh problem in Wednesday night's 2-2 Premier League draw against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium. With the injury expected to rule the England left-back out of action for the best part of two months, Wenger was glad to be able to sign a player he had been tracking for some time. "Our scouts have followed his progress for a while and of course we had a blow with the Gibbs inj ...

Arsenal blew West Ham away with four goals in the space of 10 minutes at the start of the second half to run out 5-1 winners at Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.
Football - Premier League Kompany has Arsenal red card rescinded Manchester City have successfully appealed against the sending off of captain Vincent Kompany during the 2-0 win at Arsenal. The Belgian centre-back was shown a straight red card by referee Mike Dean for a challenge on Jack Wilshere with 14 minutes remaining at the Emirates Stadium. City were quick to announce their intention to appeal and, following a Football Association disciplinary hearing, have now confirmed their claim for wrongful dismissal has been upheld. The FA has also released a statement which reads: "An independent regulatory commission has today upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal regarding Manchester City's Vincent Kompany. "The defender was dismissed for serious foul play during his side's match against Arsenal on Sunday, January 13, 2013. As a result, Kompany's three-match suspension has been withdrawn with immediate effect." Had the appeal failed, Kompany, 26, would have been banned for Premier League games against Fulham ...
Monday 14 January 2013 15.46 GMT Premier League split over domestic financial fair play regulations Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United are calling for robust domestic laws against objections of Chelsea, Manchester City, Fulham, Aston Villa and West Bromwich The leaked letter signed by officials of Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur emanated from the Emirates Stadium. Photograph: Oli Scarff/Getty Images Owen Gibson It was hardly in the spirit of the season. But the fact that a robust pre-Christmas letter to Premier League headquarters arguing that a mooted domestic version of Uefa's Financial Fair Play should be as robust as possible emanated from the Emirates should not come as a surprise. Of all top-flight clubs Arsenal are keenest on ensuring the concept, introduced by Uefa last season and limiting clubs to losses of €45m (£37.5m) over three seasons, sticks. Ivan Gazidis, the chief executive, sees the introduction of some sanity to football's overheated finances ...
Manchester City have failed to score in each of their last five Premier League visits to the Emirates Stadium.
TEAM NEWS Olivier Giroud will undergo a fitness check on Saturday to determine whether the striker is able to face Manchester City on Sunday. The Frenchman suffered a cut knee in last weekend's FA Cup draw at Swansea City but otherwise Arsenal have no other fresh injury problems. Andre Santos and Abou Diaby could be in contention after building their fitness with a midweek Under 21s outing but goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is still at least a fortnight away from returning to training. City travel to Arsenal without Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and former Gunner Samir Nasri this weekend. Striker Aguero (hamstring) remains on the sidelines while midfielder Toure is at the African Cup of Nations - along with brother Kolo and back-up striker Abdul Razak - and forward Nasri completes a three-game suspension. Left-back Aleksandar Kolarov (knee) is back in contention for the Premier League clash at Emirates Stadium but right-back Maicon (knee) is still out while Micah Richards and Jack Rodwell are long-term casualtie ...
QPR Alerted as Tottenham Prepare to Sell Emmanuel Adebayor From the moment Emmanuel Adebayor converted his temporary move to a permanent one it seemed as though Andre Villas-Boas had little to do with the deal. The Togo international sat patiently on the bench waiting for his chance to prove himself, indeed after five appearances as a Premier League sub the Former Arsenal man got himself sent off in his second start of the campaign at the Emirates Stadium. In recent weeks things have picked up for the 28 year old, with Villas-Boas attempting to play Adebayor with Jermain Defoe with positive results but talk of another possible striker signing, this source naming Brazilian Leandro Damiao, may well lead the White Hart Lane side to consider offers for Adebayor. Harry Redknapp made good use of Adebayor during his loan spell at Tottenham last term, the powerful forward netting 18 goals in all competitions whilst also laying on a fair few assists. Adebayor has elected to represent Togo in the African Nations Cu ...
Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has lifted the lid on the club's contentious transfer policy and revealed the extent of the power he wields at Emirates Stadium. There has long been conjecture over Wenger's involvement in the financial structure of Arsenal, and the Frenchman says he is always fully involved in transfer negotiations and will be so again during the January window. While most Premier League managers take a back seat when players and their agents sit down to thrash out contracts and pay packets, Wenger insists he plays a central role in every deal at Arsenal. "I don't know how it works at other clubs, but the wages at Arsenal are decided in consultation between me and the board," Wenger said. "There is an amount of money that is dedicated to the wages every year. Within that budget, we try to come up with payments that are sensible and defensible. "As long as the economical balance within a club is respected and you pay the people with the resources that make economical sense, then it is fine. I ...

Lambert, for years labelled as a ‘lower division striker’, has seven Premier League goals, the same number as Arsenal’s top scorer, Theo Walcott. Of course the latter was acquired from Southampton almost seven years ago. He was followed to Emirates Stadium by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a few years later. The Southampton academy has also produced other Premier League stars in the form of Gareth Bale and Nathan Dyer. Current youngsters like Adam Lallana, James Ward-Prowse and Luke Shaw seem to have been borne of the same profitable production line. Southampton are one of the cradles for British talent in recent years. -GL
Theo Walcott notches a hat trick for Arsenal as they beat Newcastle 7-3 at the Emirates Stadium. The Premier League has literally burst its goal bank today. Can we have some five word reviews to sum it all up?
Santi Cazorla has warned Arsenal's rivals that his midfield partnership with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere is developing rapidly, ahead of Saturday's home game with Newcastle United. The Gunners have strung together three successive Premier League wins, with the midfield trio starting together against West Bromwich Albion, Reading and Wigan Athletic, and contributing a total of six goals. Those results helped Arsenal briefly climb up to third in the table, although they now find themselves in seventh place after their fixture against West Ham United on Wednesday was postponed because of a transport strike in London. But with Newcastle next to visit the Emirates Stadium, Spanish midfield star Cazorla believes the best is yet to come from his compatriot and 20-year-old Wilshere, who signed a new contract to keep him at the club until 2018 earlier this month after 17 months out with injuries. "Every day that goes by, we understand each other better," said Cazorla. "It is very easy for me to play with them. ...

Tube drivers are due to strike on December 26 in a row over Bank Holiday pay and the threat of travel chaos prompted Arsenal and West Ham officials to meet to discuss their options. Both clubs are keen to avoid putting stress on their fans and the decision has been taken to postpone the fixture. “As a result of Monday’s strike ballot and the proposed industrial action on London Underground on Boxing Day, Arsenal’s Premier League match against West Ham United at Emirates Stadium, originally planned for Wednesday, December 26, has been postponed,” a statement on Arsenal’s official website read. “This decision has been made now, due to the preparation period needed to safely operate Emirates Stadium by all the relevant agencies. “The paramount concern was always the duty of care towards the Arsen ...
