Masterful Eden Hazard sets Chelsea fair for progress to last four! • Match report: Derby County 1-3 Chelsea Chelsea might have suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season though unlike Liverpool or Manchester United, say, they are still fighting on all four fronts and have now reached their first semi-final of the season (more to come). One would imagine the Capital One Cup is the least of José Mourinho’s priorities, but a team three points clear at the top of the table can afford to take lesser competitions seriously. Certainly a squad of such depth and quality has almost an obligation to give a good account of itself in a quarter-final, and with only a couple of exceptions for pensioners, such as Didier Drogba for Diego Costa and Petr Cech for Thibaut Courtois, the Rams found themselves facing the whole hog. That meant an appearance for Eden Hazard, for whom Real Madrid are reportedly willing to swap Gareth Bale, should Chelsea be willing to let him go. Mourinho needs to think carefull ...
Filipe Luis struck his first Chelsea goal with a brilliant free-kick to help secure a League Cup semi-final place with a win at 10-man Derby. Eden Hazard put the Premier League leaders in front and Luis made it 2-0. Craig Bryson gave Derby hope, but Jake Buxton was harshly sent off before Andre Schurrle wrapped up victory. Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma suffered a head injury and striker Didier Drogba hobbled off, but neither was a serious problem, boss Jose Mourinho said. Derby centre-back Buxton had a night to forget, having given the ball away before Hazard exchanged passes with Cesc Fabregas and drilled a perfectly-placed shot into the corner of the net for Chelsea's 23rd-minute opener. But the defender was unlucky to be sent off seven minutes after Bryson had pulled them back into the match. Referee Jon Moss ruled that Buxton had committed a professional foul by dragging back Loic Remy, although there was no clear appeal from the striker - to the extent that it looked at first as if keeper Lee Grant ...

Didier Drogba Tébily Didier Yves Drogba (French pronunciation: [didje dʁɔɡba]; born 11 March 1978), known as Didier Drogba, is an Ivorian professional footballer who plays for Chelsea in the Premier League as a striker, and is the all-time top scorer and former captain of the Ivory Coast national team. He is best known for his career at Chelsea, for whom he has scored more goals than any other foreign player and is currently the club's fourth highest goal scorer of all time. In October 2012, he was voted by Chelsea supporters as the club's greatest ever player.[3] He has also been named African Footballer of the Year twice, winning the accolade in 2006 and 2009. After playing in youth teams, Drogba made his professional debut aged 18 for Ligue 2 club Le Mans, and signed his first professional contract aged 21. After finishing the 2002–03 season with 17 goals in 34 appearances for Ligue 1 side Guingamp, he moved to Olympique de Marseille, where he finished as the third highest scorer in the 2003–04 ...
Former Liverpool star Fernando Torres set for SENSATIONAL return to Chelsea Fernando Torres is set for a shock return to Stamford Bridge with AC Milan looking to cancel his loan deal after just half a season. The Spain striker has scored just once in ten appearances in Serie A. Milan are struggling in seventh and Filippo Inzaghi is coming under pressure in the dugout. Torres joined Milan on a two-year loan deal in the summer, taking him to the end of his Chelsea contract after a disappointing three-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge. But, according to reports in Italy Milan are hoping to cancel his deal and bring in a new striker in January. It is uncertain whether Chelsea would accept a termination of the loan deal, having believed they were rid of Torres, and having signed Loic Remy, Didier Drogba and Diego Costa in the summer. In his absence Chelsea have marched to the top of the Premier League table losing for the first time on Saturday against Newcastle. The Blues remain three points clear of Manche ...

Thibaut Courtois has urged his Chelsea team-mates to put their first defeat of the season behind them after their 23-game unbeaten run was ended by Newcastle. The Premier League leaders suffered a 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park after Papiss Cisse scored a second-half double for Alan Pardew’s side. Jose Mourinho’s side must now dust themselves down and prepare for Wednesday night’s clash with Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League followed by Hull’s visit on Saturday. Goalkeeper Courtois told Chelsea TV: "That's the most important, that we are still leaders and from the next game on, we will fight to keep that bonus up and make the gap bigger. "There are only difficult games in the Premier League and we know that. The next game is in the Champions League at home and then against Hull, we have to win in front of our fans." Cisse scored four minutes after climbing off the bench and added his second just over 20 minutes later before Didier Drogba pulled one back after Steven Taylor had been dismissed ...
Premier LeaguE TALK: It was a Saturday of the Long Knives as Chelsea's hitherto "unbeaten" record finally came tumbling down like a house of cards at the hands of "minnows" Newcastle United. Not even the tired legs of oldman Didier Drogba could turn around the fortunes of "The Bus" that had already been turned upside down by Senegalese attacker Papisse Cisse as Chelsea mounted a weak "resurgence" that barely lasted 10 minutes resulting in their only goal but still ended up being hit 2-1.After the Chelsea game,it was the turn of the established "Pretenders" to the EPL throne(known to keep position four as theirs for keeps).Arsenal visiting Stoke City (Wana Beba Beba),hoping to win and at least occupy their traditional number four spot but alas!.They were shocked by the fastest goal of the Premier League after langy Peter Crouch scored a goal after only 31 seconds!.Crouch scored the goal even as underperforming Arsene Wenger was walking towards his seat to start "enjoying" the match! At half-time,a resilient ...
Newcastle United ended Chelsea's 23- match unbeaten run as Papiss Cisse scored two second-half goals in a tense 2-1 win over the Premier League leaders on Saturday. Cisse, who came on as a substitute after the break, tapped in Newcastle's first after 57 minutes and struck again on the break 20 minutes later, seconds after Eden Hazard had been denied an equaliser by the woodwork. Newcastle were reduced to 10 men shortly afterwards when Steven Taylor was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Andre Schuerrle before substitute Didier Drogba gave Chelsea hope of a comeback with a majestic header after 83 minutes. Chelsea applied late pressure in a nerve-jangling six minutes of stoppage time but their hopes of stretching their unbeaten run to a new club record were thwarted by dogged Newcastle resistance and a brilliant fingertip save by substitute keeper Jak Alnwick on his competitive debut. Defeat for Jose Mourinho's side, their first since the second leg of last season's Champions League semi- final again ...
NEWCASTLE END THE UNBEATEN CHELSEA RECORD Premier League leaders Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season as they were beaten at Newcastle in their 15th top-flight game of the campaign. The Magpies took the lead when Cisse slotted in after Gary Cahill missed Sammy Ameobi's low cross. An Eden Hazard shot hit a Newcastle upright before Moussa Sissoko set up Cisse for another tap-in. The hosts had Steven Taylor sent off but, despite Didier Drogba pulling one back, held on for the win. Newcastle 2-1 Chelsea: Jose Mourinho criticises home fans' time-wasting Chelsea piled forward late on and striker Diego Costa had a shot tipped over by 21-year-old goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, who was making his debut having come on as a half-time substitute for the injured Rob Elliot. Newcastle had beaten the Blues in their last two league games at St James' Park but a repeat appeared unlikely considering the marauding form of their visitors. However, a heroic defensive performance, marshalled by centre-back Fabricio Coloc ...

vs Tottenham Hotspur, Premier League – Eden Hazard, Didier Drogba and Loïc Rémy all score as Spurs pay for missed chances There is an increasing case for this being the most stylish, watchable Chelsea side since the dashing days of Arjen Robben and Damien Duff a decade ago. To think that Chelsea have been criticised in more recent times for occasionally parking the bus; now they are celebrated for resembling a steamroller with the handbrake off. Jose Mourinho’s hard-working, smooth-moving side effortlessly equalled the club record of 23 games unbeaten with this routine dispatching of Tottenham Hotspur. To think that it was scarcely eight months ago that the Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, was bemoaning that Mourinho had “parked two buses” at Anfield. The next time Chelsea see a parked bus could be when it is ready for boarding for a victory parade: The Telegraph
Profitable Chelsea can cement domestic and European dominance By Liam Twomey Blues have managed to reinvigorate their squad while balancing the books, and are now in prime position to enjoy new levels of success on and off the pitch For the best part of three months, the rest of the Premier League has been waiting for Chelsea to be confronted with some bad news. On the pitch, Jose Mourinho’s men are top of the table, unbeaten and with no serious rival in sight. Off it, Thursday provided the most emphatic indication yet that the wait for their competitors could be a long one. The announcement of Chelsea’s annual financial results has rarely been a proud moment at Stamford Bridge during the Roman Abramovich era. Many of the releases over the past 10 years have followed a familiar pattern: heavy losses accompanied by vague reassertions of a “long- term plan” and seemingly far-fetched promises that one of English football’s most consistently decadent clubs would one day become “self- sufficient” ...

This is our first Barclays Premier League game on the Fulham Road in almost a month and, for once, Jose Mourinho and his side have the chance to extend the advantage over the Citizens to nine points before they tackle the Manchester derby on Sunday. Shrewsbury 1-2 Chelsea: Drogba Helps Blues Into Last Eight Chelsea edged past Shrewsbury Town 2-1 on Tuesday night to book their place in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup. After a goalless first 45 minutes, Didier Drogba opened the scoring just after the break when he fired into the bottom corner from a Mohamed Salah knock-down for 0-1. The hosts then drew level when Andy Mangan came off the bench to poke home from close range following a corner in the 76th minute. However, the Premier League leaders regained the lead just 5 minutes later when Jermaine Grandison put Willian’s cross through his own net under pressure from Drogba for 1-2. Shrewsbury rallied late on but the Blues held on book their place in the hat for the quarter final draw.

Chelsea facing striker crisis before Manchester United match: Chelsea face the prospect of having veteran Didier Drogba as their only fit striker for their visit to Manchester United on Sunday in what is usually one of the standout matches of the Premier League season. Jose Mourinho's league leaders will definitely be without their nine-goal top scorer Diego Costa, who has a hamstring problem. Frenchman Loic Remy is also a doubt after injuring himself while scoring Chelsea's opening goal in their club record 6-0 Champions League victory over Maribor on Tuesday. Drogba, 36, came off the bench after 16 minutes to replace Remy and scored from the penalty spot for his first goal since returning to the club following a two-year spell away. He is Chelsea's only fully fit regular first team striker, but Mourinho could include 17-year-old Dominic Solanke in the squad for the visit to Old Trafford, after the teenager came on as a late substitute to make his senior debut against Maribor. "We know Solanke's talent i ...

Loic Remy swept in the opener but was quickly replaced by Drogba after injuring himself when scoring. Drogba then converted a penalty before John Terry slid in a third. A Mitja Viler own goal put Chelsea in command before Eden Hazard scored a penalty and drove in a late sixth. Agim Ibraimi hit the post with a penalty for Maribor, but in truth the Slovenians were well beaten. Chelsea have seven points from three games to sit top of Group G, and will be confident of reaching the knockout stage. It was almost the perfect win for boss Jose Mourinho, although the injury to Remy was a cause for concern. With Diego Costa out with a hamstring injury, the Blues could face Sunday's Premier League trip to Manchester United with Drogba as the c ...
MOURINHO: VERY HAPPY Jose Mourinho watched his side record our biggest ever Champions League win against Maribor, and praised the manner of the performance. Goals from Loic Remy and captain John Terry, either side of a Didier Drogba penalty, gave us a three-goal advantage at the break, with an Eden Hazard brace – including one from the spot – and a Mitja Viler own goal compounding the Slovenian’s misery. ‘I told the players before the game that the best way to respect opponents who, in theory, are not as good as you are, and don’t have the same potential as you, is to play at your maximum level,’ explained the Portuguese. ‘It’s not to play a second team, or play with a lack of concentration, it’s to play the best possible way. From the first minute until the last we tried to play well. Defensively we respected our opponents; we know their strikers are good players, the wingers are dangerous, so they deserve our respect. ‘Because we respected them so much we managed to produce a solid p ...
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that Didier Drogba could start Sunday's clash with Manchester United after Loic Remylimped out of the 6-0 win versus Maribor.Mourinho expects Remy to be out for "a couple of weeks" with the injury, while first-choice forward Diego Costa has missed the Blues' last two games with a hamstring complaint and mystery surrounds his fitness.Remy started well in the clash with the Slovenian champions and gave the home side the lead in the 13th minute with a precise driven effort from the edge of the penalty area. Yet he was substituted just two minutes later, having hurt his groin in the process of shooting.Should both Remy and Costa miss the trip to Old Trafford on Sunday, club legend Drogba could be given the nod to lead the line as Chelsea look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table. "I was not expecting [Drogba] to play 75 minutes," Mourinho said. "He had to come on as the striker. It was too early for the kids to come on and play 75 minutes."He . ...

Lampard: Costa can be as good as Drogba Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, believes that Diego Costa can become as great a player as Didier Drogba. Costa has made a truly brilliant start to his Chelsea career. Signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window for a fee of £32 million, the Spain international striker has taken the Premier League by storm. The 26-year-old has scored nine goals in just seven league appearances, while creating 11 chances for his teammates. Costa has a laudable shot accuracy of 84% and a pass accuracy of 78%, and comparisons have already been made between him and Didier Drogba. Drogba is a Chelsea legend and one of the greatest strikers to have ever played in the Premier League, and many football pundits have claimed that Costa could go on to achieve what the Ivorian did at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard, himself a Chelsea legend and now on loan at Manchester City from New York City FC, seems to be of a similar opinion. ‘Possibly yes’, the Former England international ...
Striker Diego Costa will start for Chelsea in Sunday's Premier League clash with Arsenal despite his hamstring issues. Didier Drogba (ankle), who has scored 13 goals in 14 games against Arsenal, finishing on the losing side once in that time, is out. Midfielder Ramires (groin) is also absent once more as Chelsea play a third game in nine days. Arsenal could have defender Nacho Monreal (back) available. Midfielders Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) and Mikel Arteta (calf) remain sidelined, while Abou Diaby is again likely to be rested following a hip problem.
Wenger: Ronaldo, not Drogba, was my biggest regret The Arsenal boss admits the fact that the Portuguese superstar ended up at rivals Manchester United "still hurts" and reveals he would have loved to manage the Chelsea legend 18 Sep 2014 16:00:00 Arsene Wenger has revealed his biggest regret as Arsenal manager was failing to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting in 2003. Ronaldo ultimately signed for Manchester United in a deal worth just over £12 million and has gone on to achieve global superstardom at Old Trafford and Real Madrid, as well as being voted the best player in the world in 2008 and 2013. The Portuguese also won three consecutive Premier League titles and a Champions League crown with United between 2006 and 2009 while Arsenal were trophyless over the same period, and Wenger admits he wishes he had acted differently. "My biggest regret, I was so close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo," Wenger revealed in a Huawei question and answer session. "And not only did I not get him, but he signed for Man ...
Man City v Chelsea: Didier Drogba relishes Frank Lampard reunion Chelsea striker Didier Drogba says he is eager to be reunited with his former "partner-in-crime" Frank Lampard when the Blues take on Manchester City on Sunday. Drogba and Lampard were team-mates at Chelsea from 2004 to 2012, winning three Premier League titles together. "I will be happy to see him," Drogba said. "I think he still belongs to us." "He is a Chelsea player, for what he did. For me, he is part of the history of the club," he added. Chelsea's record goalscorer Lampard, 36, left Stamford Bridge in the summer after 13 seasons. He signed for New York City FC before he was loaned to Manchester City in a six-month deal. Meanwhile, Drogba, 36, rejoined the Blues on a one-year deal after leaving Turkish side Galatasaray. The Ivorian says Lampard is guaranteed to receive a warm reception if he plays in Sunday's game at the Etihad Stadium. "The supporters know what he gave for the club," Drogba said. "So I know, for sure, the reaction wil ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reckons his three new strikers are perfect Jose Mourinho claims he finally has a trio of hitmen to strike fear into the hearts of Premier League defenders. Mourinho rounded off a busy summer by signing £10.5m striker Loic Remy from QPR late in the window to totally transform his forward line. Chelsea's strikeforce last season consisted of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba but they only scored 19 Premier League goals between them. Now, Mourinho insists he at last has the firepower he needs to lift the title again in Remy, player of the month Diego Costa and returning hero Didier Drogba. He said: "We had a good group of strikers last season, but we changed three for three and we believe these three give us more, in relation to the football we want to play. "Remy was almost in the last day, but that was just a consequence of Fernando leaving, a reaction to an unexpected situation. "We didn't attack immediately because we were not sure, but he was one of the players we had ...

Chelsea 2-0 Leicester City: Costa strikes again as Hazard seals victory The Spain international continued a fine start up front for the Blues while Didier Drogba came on to make his return to the club in a comfortable win at Stamford Bridge Chelseacontinued their solid start to the Premier League season with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Leicester City. In their first home match of the campaign, the Foxes held out in the first half before the Blues' quality told after the interval. Diego Costa netted a poacher's finish to break the deadlock before Eden Hazard doubled the advantage for Jose Mourinho's side with a fine strike that deflected off Wes Morgan. Though Jose Mourinho's title hopefuls turned in a dazzling display to beat Burnley 3-1 in their opening fixture, with Costa starring, they found another newly promoted team a far tougher nut to crack on Saturday.
Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa investment pays off while Thibaut Courtois and Didier Drogba also shine among Chelsea new boys With the aim to win the Premier League for the first time in five years, Chelsea arrived at Burnley with a host of new faces ready to lead a title charge. Jose Mourinho splashed the cash in the summer, spending £32million on Diego Costa and £30million on Cesc Fabregas. Mourinho also resigned former Blues striker Didier Drogba on a free and recalled Thibaut Courtois from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid. But how did the four Chelsea new boys get on? It takes a look at the summer arrivals who helped the Blues to a 3-1 win at Turf Moor. Cesc Fabregas It's like Cesc Fabregas has never been away from the Premier League. The Spain international had spent the previous three years desperately trying to become a key player at Barcelona but he already looked integral to Chelsea within one half of football. Mourinho lived up to his name in his first stint at Stamford Bridge. In 185 games - between 2004 and 2007 – Mourinho's side secured victory in 124 of them. On April 30 2005, Mourinho led Chelsea to their first title in 50-years, as Frank Lampard struck twice to secure the Blues a Carling Cup and Premier League double. Just under one-year later - on April 29 2006 - Mourinho's side were at it again as they demolished Manchester United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to claim back-to-back titles. Mourinho's Chelsea side in 05' and '06' proved a ruthless outfit: they were unbeatable at the Bridge, and knew how to get the job done on rival soil. The likes of John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Co. quickly understood Mourinho's philosophy, and they used it to their advantage as they dominated English football. The title success in 05' lived up to Mourinho's 'Special' nickname: his side cruised to success as they claimed 95 points - 12 more than Arsene Wenger's Arsenal and 18 ...

SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI; Manuel Pellegrini is not worried about Manchester City's Premier League preparations despite a heavy 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield curtain raiser. The Premier League champions looked second-best at Wembley with less than a week to go until they open the defence of their title against Newcastle. But their Chilean coach is still confident he can get his side up to scratch by the time they visit St James’ Park - and he also believes he could have a deal for Eliaquim Mangala wrapped up by then to boost City's threadbare defence. Meanwhile, Arsenal Manger, Arsene Wenger is excited by their goalscoring power. Wenger said: "Three, four, five years ago we lost a big player every year. In the last two years we’ve added players, like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. "I have more attacking options than I’ve had for a long time." Chelsea came from behind to beat Ferencvaros 2-1 in a pre-season friendly, but lost striker Didier Drogba to injury during the first half. ...
MICHAEL OWEN thinks Chelsea will win the Premier League next season with Manchester United making a return to the top four at the expense of Arsenal. Former England, Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United striker Michael Owen BOLD: Owen has predicted that Arsenal will miss out on the top four this season The former United and Liverpool striker has, perhaps unsurprisingly, tipped his former clubs to edge out Arsene Wenger's Gunners to qualify for Champions League football in 2015/16. And Owen thinks Chelsea's new firepower will see them beat current champions Manchester City into second place next term. Owen said: "I felt the Achilles heel for Jose Mourinho's side last season was the inability of their strikers to score goals and I feel recent £32m signing Diego Costa is the final piece of the jigsaw for the West London outfit and I fully expect his goals to change a very good side into a title-winning one. "Ironically the Club have never adequately replaced Blues' legend Didier Drogba and whilst the ...
Chelsea need another world-class striker On August 5th 2014 by Jonathan Lee As Chelsea continue to strengthen and improve, it is clear that they intend to have a strong strike- force. With Diego Costa, Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba, the team could certainly score plenty of goals, especially if the Former Liverpool striker can find his form of old, but do they need to add another world-class striker to their squad? The three strikers that they have will all be able to offer goals to the team, but Torres has hardly been convincing in a Chelsea shirt. Drogba is unlikely to play in every game and Costa is still unknown in the Premier League so they could be taking a risk. Perhaps it would be wise for Chelsea to sign another world- class striker, one that has experience of playing in the English League, with the general thinking that most teams should have four strikers. Drogba is likely to be used as an impact substitute and that will be effective in the right games while Costa is expected to be the main ...

"I like his character, he's solid, he can score goals and he's also technically gifted. He likes people to respect him and that's important." Drogba added that the signing of Former Arsenal captain Fabregas and Brazilian left-back Luis will add quality to ...
FOR TRUE FANS,DONT MISS ON THIS ARTICLE,WE ARE THE STRONGEST TEAM... Chelsea are currently edging rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, while are good strides ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United. Some really sharp transfer business by boss Jose Mourinho saw Chelsea instantly fill all the voids in the team. The manager even claimed that he is done for the transfer window. Chelsea still have a lot of budget to spend after the marquee sale of maverick defender David Luiz, so we cannot solely rely on Mourinho’s words saying that there won’t be any more signings. Club legend Didier Drogba re-joined the club which now looks to have the quality on and off the pitch as well. Amazing Squad Depth Chelsea have a very deep squad. They have two first team players for each position on the pitch apart from a single Centre Back position. That is an absolutely strong position to be in, as they match Manchester City on the quality of the substitute players! If we establish a 5 man midfield consisting of Matic, Fabre ...

Many big-money moves and free transfers have already been agreed across Europe this summer, but with contracts expiring on June 30, a clutch of distinguished players are left still searching for new clubs. The lure of one last payday could tempt some of those high-profile stars to relocate halfway around the world yet it is likely several will choose to continue their career in the Premier League. Here, Press Association Sport's James Cann analyses where some of the most notable out-of-contract players may end up come August. Ashley Cole After making almost 400 Premier League appearances for Arsenal and Chelsea and earning over 100 caps for England, Ashley Cole's career is at a crossroads. Stamp of approval for a baby Elephant “Today a young one had his say,” Didier Drogba told FIFA.com after Côte d'Ivoire came from behind to open their FIFA World Cup™ account with a 2-1 win over Japan. “Serge brought us energy and balance and he had a fantastic game,” added the 36 year-old striker, a Uefa Champions League winner and a true icon of African football. Drogba, a member of Côte d'Ivoire’s aging Golden Generation, is speaking of one Serge Aurier. Just 21-years-old, the flying Toulouse wing-back had a night to remember in his World Cup debut. “I can’t believe it,” the stocky wide man enthused, all nervous energy and kinetic excitement. “It’s my first World Cup, we’re here in Brazil and I helped the team to win. It’s like a dream.” Les Elephants went down early to an incisive strike from Keisuke Honda. The game stretched on until the middle of the second half without Côte d'Ivoire able to find a concrete reply. A few set-pieces from captain Yaya Toure flew over the b ...
CHELSEA AFTER MORE Atletico Madrid STARS Jose Mourinho has asked Chelsea to secure the signings of three more of Atletico Madrid's Spanish League winning side after the London club concluded Diego Costa's €38million acquisition. In addition to that quartet of Atleti Champions League finalists, the Chelsea manager expects to have Cesc Fabregas at the heart of a revamped midfield next season. A transfer of fee of €33m has been agreed with Barcelona for Fabregas, who have offered the Former Arsenal captain around the Premier League as they seek cash for a rebuild of their own. The 27-year-old is understood to have accepted Chelsea's personal terms and committed himself to joining after the World Cup. Mourinho has approved the signing. Chelsea are also working on moves to bring Brazil left back Filipe Luis and Portugal midfielder Tiago from Atletico, while approving Mourinho's request that Thibaut Courtois be brought back from a three-year loan at the Spanish champions. It looks bad when you look back, but, at the time, you never know. Individually, for him, it was a good move. He has gone from strength to strength. The Woods World Cup Countdown 16th : Ivory Coast I expect Ivory Coast to be the only African nation in the round of 16 before bowing out. The main trouble that Ivory Coast has at the moment is an aging squad with not the same level of quality coming in behind established stars such as Yaya and Kolo Toure, Didier Drogba and Didier Zokora. This will be a swan song for the latter two players I imagine and they will want to go out in style, but with few options outside their starting eleven, I just don't see them making a big impact after the group stage. The Elephants were unlucky in 2010, being drawn in a group with Brazil and Portugal, to bow out at the group stage. This will be their third (consecutive) World Cup Finals and in a relatively tame group, alongside Colombia, Greece and Japan, I think that an R16 prediction is a fairly safe bet. Player to watch: Yaya Toure. One of the most dominant midfield players in world football, Toure had a career year with Premier League champions Manchester City. With 2 ...
Adebayor: Forget Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria is Africa's big hope Written by EDITOR The Nigeria Guardian TOGO Captain, Emmanuel Adebayor, believes that rather than Cote d'Ivoire, he expects Nigeria to be the best African side at the Brazil 2014 World Cup. His reason is simply that Cote d'Ivoire cannot be trusted to perform at a big tournament because players' egos are killing their chances, according to Emmanuel Adebayor. Five Africans teams will represent the continent during next month's World Cup in Brazil. Adebayor has played against all these teams for Togo and can offer a rare insight into each. And his verdict on Cote d'Ivoire, a side brimming with Premier League stars, is scathing. He said: "I never trust them. They are the country that will always let you down. I know all of them from the bench to the manager. Sabri Lamouchi [their coach] is my very good friend. "How come for the last four or five years have they not won the African Cup of Nations? They have got the best striker in Europe in Didier D ...

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has claimed that his lack of first-team opportunities at both Chelsea and Manchester City is proof that he made the right decision to leave the clubs. The England international left City for Chelsea in 2009 after falling down the pecking order, before departing for Anfield from Stamford Bridge in January 2013 for similar reasons. The 24-year-old has gone on to score 20 Premier League goals for the Reds this term, and the former City teenager feels that he has made the correct choices so far in his career. He told The Mirror: "Realistically, you look back and they only have Micah Richards from the academy playing for the club's first team - everyone else has been signed by Man City, so I feel I made the right decision leaving there. "At first [at Chelsea], it was a matter of learning from the likes of Didier Drogba, and I thought I would get my opportunity sooner, but they didn't believe in me as a centre-forward. They always said, 'You're not a centre-forward, you're a w ...
Oscar not seeking Chelsea departure 30 March 2014 15:28 Chelsea playmaker Oscar insists he is happy at the Premier League club, despite speculation of a move away from Stamford Bridge. The Brazil international joined Chelsea in July 2012 and has impressed this season as the London club look to regain the title under Jose Mourinho. However, Chelsea's hopes were dented on Saturday with a surprise 1-0 defeat at relegation- threatened Crystal Palace that marked their second loss in three league matches. Rumours of a potential switch to Paris Saint-Germain - Chelsea's opponents in the Uefa Champions League quarter- finals - have emerged, with compatriot Lucas Moura urging Oscar to join him at the Ligue 1 leaders. However, Oscar is settled at Stamford Bridge, where he is hoping to enjoy similar success to that of Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. "Jose (Mourinho) has shown me I can be one of the best," Oscar is quoted by The Daily Star Sunday. "The manager has given me this confidence and I have grown bette ...

Chelsea eased into the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Galatasaray on Tuesday, while Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid completed a comprehensive win against Schalke 04. First-half goals from Samuel Eto'o and Gary Cahill gave Chelsea a 2-0 victory as they saw off their Turkish opponents 3-1 on aggregate to succeed where fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester City failed and make it into the last eight. Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti's Madrid defeated Schalke 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to advance 9-2 on aggregate and extend their long unbeaten run to 31 games. The build-up to the game at Stamford Bridge had been dominated by the return of Didier Drogba to the ground where he is still hailed as a hero and the Ivorian - scorer of the winning penalty when Chelsea beat Bayern Munich in a shoot-out in the 2012 final - was presented with a silver boot prior to kick-off. Chelsea's away-goal advantage from last month's meeting in Istanbul meant they had no obligation t ...
Samuel Eto'o 's goal was the 300 th of his club career. All nine of his strikes in Chelsea blue have come at Stamford Bridge. He is the first player since Didier Drogba to score against Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham in the same league season, the Ivorian having managed that feat in 2009/10. Frank Lampard started his 400 th Premier League game for Chelsea, and also moved above David James as the second all-time record appearance maker in the Premier League. It was his 573 rd game in England's top flight.
THE HOME RUN We have 63 points after 28 matches. Except for 2006-07, we have never not won the title after accumulating 63 points from 28 matches. In fact, in 2009-10 we only had 61. We may not be the swashbuckling side fired by Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba and Carlo Ancelotti , but we're getting it done and getting it done more efficiently via best-in-class defending and scoring by committee. André Schürrle's hat trick made him the fifth Chelsea player to reach the five-goal checkpoint in the Premier League. There are ten matches left in the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League season. We have winnable and one away date at Anfield left. Look, we did beat Mancity and we have gone 13 undefeated. That says we are not that weak. Infact no team has gone that long without the L letter, yes including Liverpool itself. And if we start outscoring Mancity by one goal each match it's time to start believing. He will be at the centre of attention, and while we will all be awaiting his muted celebration if he scores, there is still the small matter of a Champions League quarter-final place at stake. Overcoming Galatasaray will be no mean feat. Roberto Mancini, the man who managed Manchester City to their Premier League title in 2012, has won six of his 11 meetings against Chelsea. Chelsea secured the £32million signing of Eden Hazard in 2012 after a phone call from owner Roman Abramovich, who promised to triple the then Lille winger's wages, reports the Daily Mail. According to AS Roma boss Rudi Garcia - who was in charge at Stade Pierre-Mauroy at the time - the Russian billionaire spoke to the Belgium international personally, in an attempt to lure the in-demand star to England. The former Lille manager claims that Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba called his compatriot Gervinho in 2011 to ask if Hazard was with him at the training ground. "Yes, he is here," said Gervinho. Hazard then took the phone to speak with Abramovich. "I don't know how much you earn at Lille, but I will triple your salary," said the Chelsea chairman, according to Garcia. The 23-year-old has been in scintillating form at Stamford Bridge this season, prompting Jose Mourinho to say that Hazard is the world's best player under the age of 24. WhoScored.com takes a look at how Chelsea's loan stars are performing and it's not just Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois who are impressing. Chelsea's on-loan contingent of youngsters seems to grow inexorably each year. *** this season they even bought Christian Atsu from Porto on deadline day just so they could ship him out for experience at friends Vitesse. There is a significant range in the statuses of their loanees, from youngsters with no experience to Premier League regulars like Victor Moses and Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian international receives by far the biggest share of the spotlight, with it often suggested that the Blues were mistaken in their decision to loan him out for a second successive season. In his first he proved himself a more-than-adequate immediate replacement for Didier Drogba even though he was bought as his long-term successor, finishing as the Premier League's sixth-highest scorer with 17 goals for West Brom, while Chelsea's highest-scoring striker was the £50m enigma that . ...

Are SAS [Suarez and Sturridge] the best strike partnership in the EPL? Strike Partnerships in the History of the Premier League: 10] Dean Saunders and Dalian Atkinson Former Aston Villa manager Ron Atkinson formed this partnership for the Midlands club in 1992, when Dean Saunders arrived to Villa Park from Liverpool. The Welsh striker played up front with Atkinson, who had joined from Real Sociedad a year earlier. Together, they scored 85 league goals in just three Premier League seasons and became known as the "Deadly D's". They fired Villa to a second place finish in the inaugural Premier League season and then to a League Cup success in 1994. 9] Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka Drogba and Anelka spent three and a half years together at Chelsea, after the French striker signed from Bolton Wanderers in January 2008. Why Romelu Lukaku's red-hot Everton form will have Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho smiling He's been called the new Didier Drogba - and now Romelu Lukaku has a new moniker after Sylvain Distin called him a "monster". Distin can't get over the physique of the 20-year-old Lukaku and is envious that the striker has been blessed with such a physique. "We're more or less the same weight and to get there, I had to work hard in the gym for four years," said the Everton centre-half. "For him, it's just how he is when he wakes up. I wasn't like that when I was 20. He's physically blessed and his positioning on the pitch and finishing are improving all the time. "Considering Romelu's age, he's got all the qualities. He's a monster." Lukaku has been muscling his way past Premier League defences and his strike in Everton's 2-0 win at Aston Villa was his fifth in six games for the Blues. The knee-jerk thing to say is that Jose Mourinho must be kicking himself for letting Lukaku go. However I think the Chelsea boss is genui ...
Lampard is the only midfielder in the top 15 Premier League goal scorers and is 57 ahead of the next midfielder, Ryan Giggs. If any midfielder was going to win the Golden Boot, it would have been Lampard but the opportunity never occurred. His best return in the 2009/10 season saw him score 22 goals, finishing fifth in the goal scoring charts. His team mate Didier Drogba won with 29 goals. With his role at Chelsea becoming less prominent, it looks as though an unlikely Golden Boot looks out of reach for Super Frank. RESPECT

Romelu Lukaku With a powerful and muscular frame, the Belgium international has been heralded as the heir to the 35-year-old's throne at Stamford Bridge since his £18 million transfer from Anderlecht two years ago. But for such a young player, he has an abundance of self-belief which means that, while he respects the similarity between himself and Didier Drogba, he is a confident character who wants to make his own mark in English football. He has a long way to go because in spite of his obvious ability, Romelu Lukaku has managed just 12 appearances for Chelsea, a statistic undermined by the fact he is yet to score for his parent club. However, his progress on loan at West Brom, where he scored an impressive total of 17 goals in the Premier League, has suggested he is ready to take on the challenge to succeed at the West London club. I think this could be his breakthrough year. The year he would be closer to becoming the new King of the Bridge after the departure of King Didier Drogba...
An impressive campaign with Vitesse has seen Bony linked with a move to Newcastle & here's some info about him: It’s tempting to compare Wilfried Bony to players he has something in common with. Afonso Alves for instance. Alves came with goal-scoring pedigree in a minor league to join the Eredivisie, something Bony did. Just as Bony, Afonso Alves was playing for a club slightly off the top of the Eredivisie. Like Bony, Alves was banging goals in at will. And Alves was transferred to a mid-table Premier League-side. According to reports, Bony is on the verge of doing the same, with West Ham United his destination, although Chelsea have also been linked. Another name is Didier Drogba. Both are strikers, both are of Ivorian descent, both are physically impressive. And now, as Drogba did before, a move to the Premier League is on the cards after impressing in a supposedly ‘lesser’ league. Wilfried Bony was born in Bingerville on the 10th of December, 1988. Growing up in Abidjan, he established skills th ...
José Mourinho has set his sights on getting the best from his current Chelsea squad before delving into the transfer market – and history shows the Blues boss has a chequered record when it comes to player recruitment at Stamford Bridge. The 50-year-old, who has signed a four-year deal, inherits a Chelsea squad brimming with top-class talent, with David Luiz growing into a top Premier League player, Ramires starting to look a real force in midfield and World Cup winner Fernando Torres leading the Blues attack. Perhaps the most exciting proposition for Mourinho is his attacking trio of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar, who at times were spell-binding in the Premier League last season, and, unfortunately for Chelsea’s rivals, will only improve with age. The Europa League winners have already been linked with a host of big names over the past few months, including Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, Fiorentina star Stevan Jovetić and Roma’s talismanic midfielder Daniele De Rossi. This Blues squad only nee ...
Out-of-favour Man City man could become Mourinho’s new Drogba Returning Chelsea boss will move for Edin Dzeko before returning to native Portugal for additions As Chelsea supporters laud the return of Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge, their mouths salivate at the prospect of the potential signings that will follow his arrival. And The Special One is wasting little time in identifying his chief summer targets, with moves for several high-profile players across the continent mooted. Perhaps his most surprising potential addition at first glance though, comes from fellow Premier League challengers Manchester City, in the form of imposing striker Edin Dzeko. Dzeko was utilised as little more than a fringe player during Roberto Mancini’s reign at the Etihad Stadium, but maintains an impressive scoring record nonetheless, notching 40 goals in 109 appearances across all competitions for the Sky Blues, with whom he is 3/1 to remain beyond this summer. The powerful Bosnian started only 62 of those matches, but ...

The name Cuneyt Cakir hardly flows from an Anglophone tongue but the Turkish insurance agent joins the more homespun Brian Hill, David Elleray and Mike Dean in Manchester United’s hall of ref rage.   The English trio were responsible for decisions that once cost Sir Alex Ferguson’s United dear. Hill’s 1989 refusal to rule a Gordon Strachan shot that crossed the line against Nottingham Forest cost Ferguson a place in an Fa Cup semi-final when he was trophyless as a United manager. Elleray was a habitual offender in the 1990s. His 1999 dismissal of the saintly Denis Irwin at Anfield had then-chairman Martin Edwards asking for a medal to be struck for the Harrovian schoolmaster if Arsenal won the league. Dean was the ref who waved through an offside Didier Drogba to win the 2009-10 Premier League title for Chelsea.   Cakir may prove different to his whistle-blowing brethren. Hill, Elleray and Dean did not prevent Ferguson from flourishing in the future. Premier Leagues and Fa Cups followed. Cakir's i ...

Champions League, Premier League, Fa Cup, Mikel has tasted success in all of them, but the midfielder went one better back in January and added a trophy at international level to his ever-expanding collection, when Nigeria were crowned Kings of Africa. The Super Eagles beat Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final of the competition after overcoming Didier Drogba's Ivory Coast in the semi-final, and Mikel was astonished at the reaction of supporters back in his homeland. 'It was crazy,' he tells Chelsea. 'It was really nice to go back home after the tournament ...
There are some players who take their time to bed into a new club and get familiar with the strange surroundings they find themselves faced with. Then there is another type of player – one who is able to carry over good form wherever he goes, hitting the ground running and instantly endearing himself to his new club’s fans. Didier Drogba did just that last night for Galatasaray, scoring with a brilliant header and setting up another in his first game for the Turkish club. Just a few weeks ago, Mario Balotelli scored twice on his debut for AC Milan, including a last-minute winning penalty. So with that in mind, take a look at the best ever debut performances. Sergio Aguero, Manchester City v Swansea Most Manchester City fans believe that the £38 million the Citizens spent on Sergio Aguero was more than worth it; his one Premier League-winning goal against QPR last season means he has more than paid off his sizeable fee already. But before then, the Argentinian from Atletico Madrid demonstrated his hug ...

Balotelli is '99.9%' not coming to AC Milan, says Galliani The Italian has refused to completely rule out a deal for the controversial Manchester City striker but says Kaka and Didier Drogba will not move to San Siro in January AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani says it is "99.9%" that Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli will not join the club in the January transfer window. The Italy international has long been linked with a return to Serie A despite president Silvio Berlusconi insisting the club will not sign the striker.City manager Roberto Mancini has also insisted this week that Balotelli will stay with the Premier League champions, and Galliani says a move is unlikely. “Kaka and Drogba are 101% not coming to Milan. The FA has asked Sir Alex Ferguson for his observations after the Manchester United boss criticised assistant referee Simon Beck following Sunday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane. The Scot described the linesman's performance as "shocking" and slammed Beck's failure to award a penalty to Wayne Rooney after seeing his side concede a 90th-minute equaliser. Tottenham's late goal from Clint Dempsey meant United's lead at the top of the Premier League was cut to five points, following Manchester City's victory over Fulham. The 71-year-old also claimed that Beck had failed to spot that a Didier Drogba winner at Old Trafford back in 2010 was offside - a result which effectively handed the title to Chelsea that season. Ferguson now has until 18:00GMT on Thursday to respond to the request and could face sanctions including a touchline ban or fine.!

Didier Drogba may lead a star-studded cast list at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations – but this year's competition which gets underway on Saturday is bereft of some of the continent's top names. For while Ivory Coast captain Drogba and the Toure brothers Kolo and Yaya and company head for South Africa, the likes of Samuel Eto'o, Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse are missing out, forced to watch the action on television. Ba and Cisse failed to join the party when Senegal were kicked out of the 2013 tournament by organisers CAF as punishment for crowd trouble which flared up at the qualifier against Drogba's Ivorians. Senegal's disqualification must have been greeted with quiet relief, though, at the pair's respective Premier League clubs. Ba, who moved from Newcastle to Chelsea in the January transfer window, is one of the deadliest strikers in the league, and made an immediate impact for Chelsea when scoring twice in the 5-1 Fa Cup third-round triumph at Southampton. At Newcastle, the 27-year-old forward's p ...

Spurs and Liverpool have stepped up their hunt for Bafetimbi Gomis after the player's representatives flew to London for a meeting last week. The player's agents were reportedly speaking to both clubs prior to their clash at White Hart Lane. Gomis, who is currently second in the goalscoring charts behind PSG's Zlatan Ibrahimovic with ten goals to his credit has just one year left on his current contract with Lyon. The forward is surplus as Lyon want to cash in on a transfer fee in lieu of Champions League money this season. They currently top Ligue 1 by five points - although it seems their major asset may be off to seek a new challenge in the Premier League. His representatives saw both Spurs and Liverpool with Andre Villas-Boas and Brendan Rodgers both in the marketplace for a strong targetman. Gomis is similar in style to Didier Drogba but the 27-year-old will command a hefty fee. However, with both Spurs and the Reds short in attack, the only question appears to be whether Lyon, on course to qualify f ...
PALESTINE | Footballers Condemn Plans To Hold U21 European Championship In Israel. 'A group of Premier League footballers and players in other major European leagues have condemned plans to hold the Under-21 European championship in Israel next year, saying it will be seen as a "reward" for this month's assault on Gaza in which young people playing football were killed when a sports stadium was bombed. The signatories, who include Eden Hazard of Chelsea, Abou Diaby of Arsenal and five Newcastle players – Papiss Cissé, Cheick Tioté, Sylvain Marveaux, Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba – also criticised Israel's continued detention without charge or trial of two Palestinian footballers. Several former Premier League players have also signed the letter, including Didier Drogba and Frédéric Kanouté, both of whom now play in China. Players with QPR, Stoke, Blackburn and Ipswich are among the signatories along with footballers in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Turkey. (straNger)

City secured their first league title since 1968 in May and lead the Premier League contingent, with Mario Balotelli, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero all in contention. Manchester United are represented by Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. The Englishman - a surprise inclusion - has scored 25 goals in 2012 to Messi's 73, did not win a domestic trophy and failed to make an impact for England at Euro 2012. Chelsea's achievements last season are recognised with a nomination for Didier Drogba, who now plays for Shanghai Shenhua. 2009/10 Chelsea read the script, learnt it and performed it perfectly. There simply cannot be any better way to seala league title than with a club's record top-flight win and in doing so, Carlo Ancelotti 's magnificent side not only securedthe club's fourth championship but did so with a Premier League record number of goals scored - smashing the century to move onto 103 league goals for the season - a newclub record in any division. Any tension in this game soon evaporated when Nicolas Anelka fired in with just five minutes gone. Three more goals, a Frank Lampard penalty and strikes from Salomon Kalou and another from Anelka, were netted before Didier Drogba even found the net. He ended the day with a second-half hat-trickto take the Premier League Golden Boot with 29 league goals and 36 in all competitions. By that stage Wigan had long played with 10 men, Gary Caldwell having been dismissed half-an-hour in conceding the penalty that ledto the second goal. Arsenal V. Chelsea at the Emirates "Ahead of the game Arsene has spoken of his relief that for the first time in eight years, his side will not be facing Didier Drogba. “I don’t know if Chelsea miss him, but we don’t miss him. He did a lot of damage against us,” said Wenger. "Chelsea fans have been used to the Drogba effect against the Arsenal. He has had success against them whenever he has played and has been a thorn in their side throughout like most sides he has come up against. Drogba without question was Chelsea's number one. Last season, Robin Van Persie and the Arsenal side took Chelsea apart at Stamford Bridge on his way to finishing top scorer in the Premier League. Van Persie without question was Arsenal's number one. Both players have moved on and it now appears for both clubs the focus is on the team and the playing style. Arsenal have been renowned for their passing game and with the addition of Santi Cazorla, they now have the man to unlock the door and to create something out of ...
London glory will come at high price John Brewin There will be sighs of relief at Emirates Stadium as Didier Drogba will not line up for Chelsea It is set to be the most expensive game yet staged in Premier League history. That is not a reflection of Chelsea's latest spree on players, and it could hardly be Arsenal's. Instead, it is the man on the street, the punter, who will be paying through the nose for the first meeting of the season between London's pretenders to the title crown. Arsenal's new grading system of matchday prices places the capital-city derby as a minimum £62 admission price. Adding all the eye-watering prices together - and let's repeat that £62 is the minimum cost - then Arsenal are set to yield £6 million from a single fixture. That's a figure that may even have met Robin Van Persie's wage demands, had he been minded to stay at the Emirates but the Dutchman was not. He departed a club once known as the 'Bank of England club' to one in Manchester United in hock to several banks in ...

Arsenal boss Wenger to pounce as Drogba set for Shanghai Shenhua release Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is on red alert over Chelsea legend Didier Drogba's availability from Shanghai Shenhua. The club's chief Zhu Jun has given his co-owners two weeks to give him more control or he'll withdraw his funding. The state-backed Shanghai Youth Daily Newspaper today quoted an unnamed source as saying: “If this issue is not resolved satisfactorily, from October Zhu Jun might take action. If the issue of Drogba’s salary is still not effectively handled, he might again book a ticket home.” If the club have to release Drogba and Anelka it would pave the way for a return to the Premier League. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger last week denied he was interested in Drogba but Liverpool might be given that they are short up front after allowing Andy Carroll to join West Ham on loan to West Ham. On the way up, no doubt, contributions of Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Jose Bosingwa will be assessed, relived and cherished. It rests with the new arrivals to provide memories that can supersede those produced by the dearly departed. Despite last season's two trophies there is much that needs improving. Sixth place in the league (a ten-year low), 25 points shy of the two Manchester clubs, means there is a huge amount of ground to make up this campaign. This is our second consecutive opening day game away from home. So many of last season's most vivid moments took place on opponents' territory last season - Benfica, Barcelona, Bayern... Yet in the Premier League our travels often brought chill penury rather than the rich pickings of previous seasons. West Brom boss Clarke puts acid test on Chelsea’s Lukaku West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has challenged Romelu Lukaku that he must impress to get game time this season. The Belgian striker has joined the Baggies on loan from Chelsea and after a disappointing debut campaign with the Blues, is determined to prove himself at The Hawthorns with Clarke hoping he can shine. "He's certainly hungry, I know that," said Clarke. "He wants to do well and prove himself in the Premier League. "Whether he has grievances with Chelsea is not for me to comment on. I don't know what happened last year at Chelsea . "It was obviously going to be difficult for him to get in the team ahead of Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres and that proved to be the case. "But he's got a clean slate this year. He's one of a number of strikers competing for a place in my team and I'm hoping that at the end of this year he's not complaining about anything."

The Daily Star says Roberto Di Matteo has made signing a forward his top priority this summer after losing Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou earlier this summer but accepts his pursuit of Hulk is over due to Porto 's asking price. Having struck 33 goals in 47 games last season Di Matteo believes Cavani possess the correct physical attributes for Premier League target man and is hopeful of concluding a deal before the new season kicks off. As Napoli are prepared to settle for a cut price offer of €35 million, it looks as though a deal could go ahead.
Barca dreams give Chelsea identity crisis 2 hours ago LONDON (AFP) - When Roberto Di Matteo screamed “We won it” at Roman Abramovich as Chelsea started their Champions League celebrations, the Blues manager can’t have realised he was signalling the end of an era at Stamford Bridge. Just over three months after Chelsea’s rollercoaster season reached a memorable peak with the miracle in Munich, much has already changed at the West London club. Talismanic striker Didier Drogba, the club’s Champions League final hero, is now playing in China, while long-serving stars like Jose Bosingwa and Salomon Kalou have been shown to the exit. In their place have arrived exciting young talents Eden Hazard, Oscar and Marko Marin, who are expected to transform Chelsea from the battle-hardened group who excelled at grinding opponents into submission into the Premier League’s version of Barcelona. It is a remarkable transformation for a team crowned European champions and Fa Cup winners so recently. But crucially ...
