Jose Mourinho stopped talking to the media for a week or so. Then he opened his mouth again and implored Chelsea fans not to taunt Steven Gerrard at Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup semi-final. It was not exactly a case of rationing your breath. Mourinho might as well have urged moths to stop head-butting lightbulbs. Chelsea fans, lambasted by their managerfor not making enough noise at Stamford Bridge this season, will surely give Gerrard dog’s abuse at Anfield to remind him of the fateful slip which allowed Demba Ba to score and wrecked his own chance of finally winning the Premier League. Former Chelsea star Demba Ba: Why I will not be returning to the Premier League
Demba Ba: Why I would avoid Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after a defeat Former Chelsea forward Demba Ba claims it was best to avoid Jose Mourinho after a defeat during his short stint working with the Special One. Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013, where he linked up with Senegal star Ba. But Mourinho could not mark his first season back at Chelsea with a trophy, with late season defeats to Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Sunderland ending his chances of clinching the Premier League title. Ba, who left Chelsea for Turkish outfit Besiktas in the summer, has suggested that his former team-mates will need to maintain their unbeaten start to the new season to avoid Mourinho's wrath. "Mourinho hates losing, I wouldn't recommend trying to talk to him after a loss but he is great to be around after a win," Ba reportedly told turkishfootball.com. “Bilic is a great manager but his technical staff are excellent, they are brilliant football minds and understand the game inside out” Demba B ...

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reckons his three new strikers are perfect Jose Mourinho claims he finally has a trio of hitmen to strike fear into the hearts of Premier League defenders. Mourinho rounded off a busy summer by signing £10.5m striker Loic Remy from QPR late in the window to totally transform his forward line. Chelsea's strikeforce last season consisted of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba but they only scored 19 Premier League goals between them. Now, Mourinho insists he at last has the firepower he needs to lift the title again in Remy, player of the month Diego Costa and returning hero Didier Drogba. He said: "We had a good group of strikers last season, but we changed three for three and we believe these three give us more, in relation to the football we want to play. "Remy was almost in the last day, but that was just a consequence of Fernando leaving, a reaction to an unexpected situation. "We didn't attack immediately because we were not sure, but he was one of the players we had ...
Demba Ba has said he came very close to joining Arsenal this summer but insisted he was happy to have joined Besiktas, despite his new club’s Champions League defeat to the Gunners. The striker, who left Chelsea for £8m in July, was unable to prevent Arsenal reaching the Champions League group stage for the 17th year in a row. Alexis Sanchez’s goal at the Emirates on Wednesday night gave the Gunners a 1-0 aggregate victory over Besiktas in the play-off. Afterwards, Ba was asked whether he had made the right decision to move to Turkey and, with Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud now out until next year, did he regret not joining Arsène Wenger’s side. “I’m happy at Besiktas,” he replied. “How close did I come to joining Arsenal? As close as you and me here, but it’s past. I just look forwards. “Everybody knew that I wanted to come here [to Arsenal]. I could have maybe waited longer in this transfer window, but I wanted to go and play for Besiktas because it’s a great club.” Asked whether Che ...
Despite finishing third in the Premier League last season behind Liverpool and champions Manchester City, Chelsea have been installed as favourites by bookmakers and pundits alike for the forthcoming campaign. The reasoning is relatively easy to understand. Jose Mourinho spent much of his first year back at Stamford Bridge talking about the Blues being a team in transition and lamenting the profligacy of his strikers. So when the 2013-14 campaign concluded without any silverware to add to the collection already gleaming in owner Roman Abramovich's extensive cabinet, the Portuguese moved swiftly to address perceived deficiencies. - Toe Poke: Costa scores stunner, avoids horror injury - Lythell: Chelsea taking shape Club legends Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard were allowed to leave while David Luiz, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba were sold and Samuel Eto'o released. Arriving in SW6 came prolific striker Diego Costa, his former Atletico Madrid teammate Filipe Luis, ex-Arsenal and Barcelona midfield playmaker Cesc ...
'Last three months worst of my life' Steven Gerrard says the slip that ended Liverpool’s title hopes and England being knocked out the World Cup in the group stages have contributed to what has been “probably the worst three months of my life”. Speaking to reporters on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of North America, the 34-year-old addressed the moment when he lost his footing against Chelsea in late April, allowing Demba Ba to open the scoring. The Blues went on to win 2-0, a result that effectively ended Liverpool’s push for a first title since 1990 as well as Gerrard’s hopes of a Premier League crown, the only club trophy that eludes him. THE KING RETURNS!! Didier Drogba set to return to Stamford Bridge! The King will make a sensational return to Stamford Bridge and is set to sign a one year deal to return to Chelsea as a player-coach at the start of next week. The 36-year-old is a free agent after his 18-month stint in Turkey with Galatasaray and is expected to be integrated into Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff as well as playing on for one more season. Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o have both left the club this summer, and Romelu Lukaku is constantly being linked with a departure, meaning the much-maligned Fernando Torres would be the only alternative to new boy Diego Costa should nobody else arrive. Mourinho will be counting on the charismatic striker to bring some vital experience and leadership to the Chelsea dressing room, especially following the departures of veteran trio Eto’o, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole. Despite his age, Drogba has scored 28 goals in 64 competitive club games since leaving the Blues and he will be eager to dis ...

Arsenal boss calmly brushes off Mourinho’s baiting Well done Arsene Wenger, for keeping calm and holding back from getting in to another war of words with Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea boss clearly sees Arsenal as one of his main rivals for the Premier League crown. He has even said as much himself. The not very Special One was worried about the threat from the Gunners last season as well, as the last minute veto of our loan deal for Demba Ba showed, and he must be even more wary now that Arsenal have signed two top quality players in Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy, with more soon to be on their way. So I was not surprised to see Mourinho take the first opportunity to have a go at Wenger and Arsenal, claiming that Cesc Fabregas never wanted to return to his former club because he preferred Chelsea. He also stuck his oar in to the Jack Wilshere debate after the England international was pictured smoking again during his summer break, even offering some helpful advice on how Wenger should deal with it. O ...
Everton Close to Sealing Deal For Lukaku Everton are hoping to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku in the next 48 hours, according to the Daily Mail. Lukaku, 21, has built an impressive goalscoring reputation in the Premier League despite being sent out on loan for the majority of his stay at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian netted 15 last season for Everton and 17 for West Bromwich Albion the season before. However, despite his Premier League record, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho doesn’t see Lukaku in his plans, with Spain international Diego Costa moving to London this summer. As it stands, Chelsea have sold striker Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o has left, with only Fernando Torres looking likely to stay. Is selling Lukaku a wise move by Jose Mourinho, or should he keep him as an understudy to Diego Costa? Join the debate NEWS, REACTION AND ANALYSIS OF FOOTBALL GAMES ALL OVER THE WORLD

Chelsea offered striker for £15million Emmanuel Emenike could become a Chelsea player this Summer Chelsea have reportedly been offered Emmanuel Emenike by Turkish side Fenerbache for as little as £15million. The Blues are still on the lookout for a new striker, despite signing Atletico Madrid man Diego Costa for £32m, but boss Jose Mourinho, is still keen on adding a partner for Costa, as he still doesn't trust Demba Ba or Fernando Torres. The 27-year-old had an impressive World Cup with Nigeria, who were narrowly defeated last night against France, and also scored 11 goals in 27 appearances for club last season, and he has now been offered to the Premier League side for just £15m. Chelsea, who are also monitoring Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bayern Munich's Mario Mandzukic, could be interested in signing the Nigerian on the cheap and it's believed the two teams will discuss further.
Steven Gerrard the provider, Luis Suarez the scorer. It is the sort of recipe that normally delights Anfield. It was a formula to disappoint England as a combination of colleagues at club level that all but ended their World Cup campaign and, in all probability, their captain’s international career. First it was a backpass for Demba Ba that ended Liverpool's hopes of a Premier League. Gerard Steven YOU ROCKED...
Mass Exodus: Five players who are set to leave Chelsea this summer MourinhoJose Mourinho’s Chelsea have already been one of the busiest sides this summer in terms of transfer activity, striking deals for Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa whilst offloading David Luiz to PSG for a princely sum. Chairman Roman Abramovich is keen to avoid punishments imposed by breaking the new Financial Fair Play rules which Manchester City did last season and now face a £50million fine and reduced Champions League squad. Therefore Chelsea will be looking to sell more players before they can finance new signings, with Mourinho prepared to make wholesale changes in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season as reported by the Daily Star. Chelsea set to complete triple raid on Atletico Madrid including £32m Diego Costa [The Mirror]. The Blues want to snap up three stars from the Vicente Calderon Stadium. The £32m deal to bring Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa to Chelsea appears to be as good as done with the Spaniard completing a medical at the club. Yet that is not the end of the Blues' raid on the Spanish champions, with manager Jose Mourinho also having his eye on left-back Felipe Luis and former player Tiago, according to the Mirror. Here is an analysis of each player and how they would fit into the West Londoners' side. Diego Costa Mourinho has had his eye on this 25-year-old for some time, which after scoring 37 goals for Atleti in all competitions last term is perhaps little surprise. The side's strike force is by far their weakest area and the futures of current crop Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres all remain in doubt. Therefore recruitment was needed and Costa's physicality should fit into the Premier League very w ...

The West London side have already secured a £32m deal to sign Brazilian born Spanish international Diego Costa, with the 25 year old having already passed a medical and agreed a £160k a week deal. Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho was in urgent need of addressing his ailing attack, with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba all failing to impress on a consistent enough basis last term, and the addition of Costa, who netted 36 goals in all competitions last term, will go some way to rectifying the problem. Left-back Filipe Luis is to fly to London to complete talks with the Premier League side over a £16m move and will presumably act as a replacement for depart . ...
Other teams in the Premier League must love Wenger! How many players have moved to other top teams in the league from Arsenal.. Nasri, Clichy, Adebayor, RVP, Kolo Toure, Sagna (more than likely to City)... And now with Cesc wanting a return to Arsenal, Wenger and the board just decline and let him go, to Chelsea by the looks of it... Last season Mourinho didn't even let us near Demba Ba!! Strengthening our rivals like this keeps happening season after season.
Diego Costa has completed a medical examination at Chelsea and he is now poised to complete his £32m transfer from Atlético Madrid. The Brazil-born striker, who is a part of the Spain squad preparing for the World Cup finals, has been identified by José Mourinho as being what Chelsea need to win the Premier League title. The London club were four points short of last season’s champions, Manchester City, and their challenge came in spite of the lack of goals from their centre-forwards. Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba contributed a total of 19 in the league, with Eto’o scoring nine of them. Mourinho would bemoan the shortfall at various junctures of his first season back at Chelsea . He believes that the powerful and ruthless Costa can make the difference next time out. The 25-year-old is fresh from his break-out season in the professional game, in which he scored 27 goals in 34 league starts for Atlético, plus eight in nine in the Champions League, as his club won La Liga and were beat ...
Mario Balotelli seems set on leaving Italy after repeatedly accusing the fans of being racists. According to the Daily Express, the Italian international is keen on returning to the Premier League where he played for Manchester City. Chelsea might benefit from this situation and finally sign a striker good enough to live up to the same level as his teammates. Up until now, Drogba has been the only one who has managed to impress at Stamford Bridge. Torres, Demba Ba and Eto’o all failed to provide the needed fire power to take Chelsea to the top. Milan are willing to sell Balotelli for £20 million which is a lot less than Chelsea expected to pay for a striker. After selling Luiz for £50 million to PSG, The Blues would have enough money to bring in not one but two goal scorers. With all current strikers already half way out the door, Balotelli looks like the perfect way to start the transfer period. Chelsea will have to battle it out with Arsenal and Liverpool if they really want the 23 year old. The bi ...

MEANTIME, striker ,Demba Ba claims he will still be a Chelsea player next season after revealing Jose Mourinho has told him he wants him to stay. Ba had said he wanted to leave in April because he felt he was not being given the opportunity to become a first-team regular at the club. Along with Chelsea's other strikers, he was also criticised by the manager for a lack of success in front of goal. Moussa Sissoko insists he is happy at Newcastle and is looking forward to returning to the club after playing at the World Cup with France. The player’s agent sparked speculation of a potential move for the midfielder when he was quoted as saying Sissoko was “open to proposals”, but the 24-year-old has moved to calm the fears of Magpies supporters. Three Reasons Why MOURINHO Should NOT Contract Bayern Star Mario Mandzukic... 1).Mario Mandzukic doesn't really provide a different kind of threat than say Demba Ba or Romelu Lukaku. His style is similar to that of Ba. 2).There are other, better options on the market that Chelsea should look into. Edinson Cavani is unhappy at Paris Saint Germain, Mario Balotelli has been rumoured to be off in the summer and Karim Benzema doesn't look likely to stay at Real Madrid. 3).Mandzukic has the European experience over Lukaku but Lukaku does have the Premier League know-how which can be far much better than the experience Mandzukic holds.

Steven Gerrard won't let World Cup focus slip, says Brendan Rodgers • Liverpool captain will not let title loss affect England form • Rodgers interested in Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand Steven Gerrard is his own worst critic but will not allow the disappointment of Liverpool's title slip to affect his World Cup, according to Brendan Rodgers. The Liverpool manager believes England's captain should have greater confidence in Brazil following the closest title challenge of his career. The 33-year-old admitted he was "absolutely devastated" to miss out on a first Premier League winner's medal having helped guide Liverpool to a six-point lead over Manchester City with three matches to go. Opposition supporters have taunted Gerrard for his mis-control and slip against Chelsea, when Demba Ba raced through to open the scoring at Anfield, and his body language after the final game of the season against Newcastle United spoke of anguish at an otherwise resurgent campaign. Gerrard has been "very *** himself", says ...
THIS WAS A THRILLING PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON TO SAVOUR:In the thrilling race to be crowned champions, the Premier League's game of thrones was more like musical chairs at times. Even Manchester United, who had a season penned by Stephen King, managed two days at the summit, briefly admiring the view. Arsenal spent 128 days there, Chelsea 64, Liverpool 59 and Manchester City 15. This turnover added to the wonderful unpredictability of one of the best Premier League title campaigns since its inception in 1992. A three-horse chase is rare. Stylish City relied on the quality of Yaya Toure from midfield, the will to win of Pablo Zabaleta, and the goalscoring reliability of Edin Dzeko. David Silva and Samir Nasri graced games. Joe Hart reclaimed his top form after a period of mistakes and introspection. But most credit has to go to Manuel Pellegrini for keeping City composed and focused. Sadly for Liverpool, Steven Gerrard's slip against Chelsea, letting Demba Ba through, proved the defining moment of the 2013-2 ...
Fair play to Chelsea for getting that far in the competition. I can understand their fans gripes and despite everything they should be proud of reaching a semi final despite having no striker. Having to play a £50mil goalkeeper Fernando Torres, the left back Samuel Eto'o a multiple time african footballer of the year that played for and won the CL with Barca & Inter and the experienced Premier League phyio Demba Ba all as strikers was difficult.
Steven Gerrard: sorry to say it but Liverpool captain does have previous For all his brilliance, the gaffe that handed Chelsea victory at Anfield was not the first mistake of Gerrard's career Steven Gerrard has enjoyed many memorable moments in his illustrious career for club and country but the Liverpool captain's gaffe which handed Demba Ba the opportunity to put Chelsea ahead in Sunday's Premier League match at Anfield will certainly not be one of his most treasured. With Brendan Rodgers' side knowing that a draw would have been good enough to maintain their advantage over Manchester City in the title race, Liverpool were coasting towards half-time when Gerrard's slip after receiving a simple pass from Mamadou Sakho gifted Ba his chance in first-half injury-time. Chelsea went on to record a vital 2-0 victory to leave Liverpool's hopes of a first title since 1990 hanging by a thread. The full recriminations of that moment are yet to be known, although Manchester City's subsequent 2-0 victory over Crysta ...

Chelsea parked 'two buses' - Rodgers Brendan Rodgers © Getty Images Sun, 27 Apr | 18:04 Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers got his big break in football as an assistant to Jose Mourinho, butwill not be taking any lessons in how to win from his former mentor. Liverpool suffered a major blow to their hopes of winning their first title since 1990 when Chelsea won 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday, frustrating the Premier League leaders with dogged defending and punishing them on the break with goals by Demba Ba and Willian. "It's the polar opposite to how we work," Rodgers told reporters. "They sat really deep. There were probably two buses today parked today rather than one," he said, using a phrase made famous by Mourinho nearly 10 years ago to criticise a team for defending too much. In the same way that Chelsea held Atletico Madrid to a 0-0 draw in a Champions League semifinal first leg last week, Mourinho ordered his midfield to sit deep and double up with his defenders to deny space and time to Liverpool. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was unrepentant about his tactics at Liverpool as his team secured a 2-0 win over the Premier League leaders that blew open the title race. England trio Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Gary Cahill helped Chelsea Football Club to a 2-0 victory over Liverpool FC at Anfield and stay in the Premier League title race. Liverpool featured Three Lions players Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Raheem Sterling and Jon Flanagan, while Daniel Sturridge came off the bench in the second half. However, goals at the end of either half from Demba Ba and Willian ended the Reds unbeaten League run in 2014.
SUMMARY OF Match Report: CHELSEA 1 SUNDERLAND 2 Fabio Borini's 81st-minute penalty consigned us to our maiden league defeat at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho. It was the Portuguese's 78th Premier League game in charge of Chelsea at our home ground. Not only does the loss signal the end of that astonishing run, it also gives Liverpool a huge advantage in the race for the title. We started brightly and took the lead through a Samuel Eto'o volley but our visitors hit back soon after through Connor Wickham after Mark Schwarzer, standing in for the ill Petr Cech, couldn't hold Marcos Alonso's volley. Branislav Ivanovic hit the bar before the interval and Eto'o, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres went close after it but it was Sunderland who returned home with the points after Cesar Azpilicueta felled substitute Jozy Altidore and Borini, on loan from Liverpool, converted with ease. Unlike so often before when we have faced an uphill task at this stadium there was no late reprieve and it was left to Mourinho to c ...
Mourinho loses home record, ground in title race and his temper LONDON -- By the end, Chelsea's only response was a rather impotent rage. There was no great siege, no grand missed chance, only Jose Mourinho's angry sarcasm. That is the deeper issue beyond the club's otherwise justifiable complaints about the refereeing in this remarkable 2-1 defeat to Sunderland. A failure to finish -- both chances and the job at hand -- has led Mourinho to lose his long unbeaten home record, lose the initiative in the title race and ultimately lose his temper. Liverpool can put one hand on the Premier League trophy at Norwich City on Sunday, while the Chelsea manager had to forcibly restrain his furious coach Rui Faria from putting his hands on referee Mike Dean. It summed up this failure. In the post-match news conference, however, Mourinho could barely contain his own anger. The Portuguese simply went on a two-minute diatribe laced with sarcasm in which he refused to field any questions. "In three or four points I can ...
Sunderland dent Chelsea EPL title hope Sunderland condemned Chelsea to their first home Premier League defeat under Jose Mourinho with a stunning 2-1 victory on Saturday that took Liverpool a step closer to the title. Chelsea were bidding to take over from Liverpool at the summit, but their loss to the league’s bottom club means that Brendan Rodgers’s side can now open up a five-point lead if they win at Norwich City on Sunday. Samuel Eto’o put Chelsea ahead after only 12 minutes, but Sunderland equalised quickly through Connor Wickham and claimed victory thanks to an 82nd-minute penalty from on-loan Liverpool striker Fabio Borini. Having held third-placed Manchester City to a 2-2 draw in midweek, Sunderland have emerged as this season’s kingmakers, and victory at Stamford Bridge gave their chances of avoiding relegation a sizeable boost. Gus Poyet’s side, who had previously gone nine games without a win, finished the day three points from safety and also have a game in hand to play. Chelsea too ...

Chelsea v Sunderland Preview: Chelsea host Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea could return to the Premier League summit and thwart Sunderland's bid to avoid relegation when they meet at Stamford Bridge in Saturday Night Football. Jose Mourinho's side remain within Striking Distance of Liverpool at the head of the table following their 1-0 victory over Swansea last Sunday, courtesy of Demba Ba's second goal in as many games. Since losing to Crystal Palace, Chelsea have gone on to record back-to-back top-flight victories to remain within two points of the league leaders. Despite vehemently ruling his side out of the title race, the equation is simple for Mourinho; win all their remaining fixtures and Chelsea will be Premier League champions. Former Chelsea playmaker Gus Poyet, now Black Cats manager, can expect no aid from his old employers, who are unbeaten in 77 home games under Mourinho. However, the hosts will be wary of the threat posed by Sunderland, who snatched an unlikely result against Manches ...

Demba Ba's scrambled late goal sent Chelsea into the Champions League semi-finals at Paris St-Germain's expense - and sparked a familiar touchline celebration from delighted Blues boss Jose Mourinho. Chelsea needed to claw back PSG's 3-1 advantage from the first leg and Andre Schurrle - on as an early substitute for the injured Eden Hazard - gave them hope with a first-half goal. And with only three minutes left Ba, another substitute, bundled the ball home from six yards to make the decisive contribution and spark wild celebrations as the Premier League side went through on away goals. Chelsea's Demba Ba wants a summer move away from Stamford Bridge, with West Ham interested in the striker. Real Madrid could rival Premier League giants for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw. Christian Benteke could leave Aston Villa this summer. Arsenal chiefs fear the club could suffer a similar fate to Manchester United if Arsene Wenger reverses his intention to sign a two-year contract.
RANKING CHELSEA PLAYERS ACCORDING TO THEIR PERFORMANCE THIS SEASON. 20) Marco Van Ginkel - n/a Has been injured for virtually the entirety of the season, and made only two short cameo appearances for the Blues early on. 19) Mohamed Salah - n/a Hans't had enough time or chances to make an impact since arriving from FC Basel in January. 18) Demba Ba - 4 The Senegalese has not had many chances, but with only one Premier League goal, he hasn't really earned many either. 17) Ashley Cole - 4 For the first time in his career, Cole is not a first-team regular any more. His contract expires at the end of the season, and he's likely to end his Stamford Bridge tenure. 16) John Obi Mikel - 5 Mikel's only started nine Premier League games, and failed to stand out much in the Blues midfield. Matic was signed in January, and will make the Nigerian's chances of starting many more matches this term quite slim. 15) Fernando Torres - 5 Yet again this season, the £50m Spaniard has struggled to score Premier League goals - n ...
Chelsea 0-0 West Ham: Hammers frustrate blunt Blues Sam Allardyce's men come away from Stamford Bridge with a point after putting in a well-disciplined defensive display, much to the chagrin of Jose Mourinho West Ham held out for a 0-0 draw as Chelsea had their Premier League title ambitions checked on a frustrating night at Stamford Bridge. Adrian produced a stunning early save, touching Oscar's shot against the crossbar, but the busy night the visiting goalkeeper might have expected never truly materialised. Chelsea dominated the play and Demba Ba was also denied by the woodwork late on, but the home side were persistently thwarted by a West Ham defence as tenacious as it was deep-lying. Andy Carroll also provided a muscular outlet in attack on an evening only soured by events elsewhere for manager Sam Allardyce, as Sunderland's win over Stoke City left them two points from safety. Chelsea are three points shy of the Premier League summit after Manchester City claimed top spot with victory at Tottenham ...

Demba Ba a Crystal Palace transfer target as boss Tony Pulis seeks new faces up front. The Eagles' boss is desperate for January reinforcements up front and wants to tie up a deal with the West Londoners for Senegal hitman Ba, who was only a failed medical away from signing for Pulis’ Stoke in 2011. Palace will also make Jason Puncheon’s move from Southampton permanent as they look to free up a loan space for other reinforcements this January. With Stoke striker Cameron Jerome also on loan, resurgent Palace already have the two players they are allowed to borrow from other Premier League clubs. But Puncheon is just days away from a £1.25million, two-and-a-half-year switch that would allow Pulis to pursue a temporary move for Ba. Former Palace boss Ian Holloway is set to raid the Selhurst Park club for midfielder Owen Garvan after being named new boss of local rivals Millwall. Written by Steve Milne - Have your say below :)
Jose Mourinho READY TO WIELD THE AXE Jose Mourinho is ready to get ruthless with his misfiring squad if they fail to improve performances&results. Although Chelsea sit 3rd in the Premier League table, just 2points off the leaders,&have a favourable Champions League draw vs Galatasaray,Mourinho was left seething by the manner of their Capital One Cup exit to Sunderland. Unless certain attitudes change&performances improve over the next few games,he is willing to begin re-shaping his squad&will look at January sales. Obvious candidates such as Kevin De Bruyne have already expressed a desire to leave while Demba Ba has pleaded for more game time&may get his wish... elsewhere. Yet there are understood to be few exempt from Mourinho's thinking as he grows frustrated with the response to his 2nd tenure in charge at Stamford Bridge. Wholesale changes in January would be too much of a risk but Mourinho will formulate his plans so a greater overhaul can be completed in the summer. He is looking at a new spine to th ...
Chelsea transfer news: De Bruyne wants talks with Mourinho, Ba could be axed for Inter star The Mirror has reported that Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is demanding talks with Jose Mourinho before Christmas. De Bruyne is thought to want clarification over his role at Stamford Bridge over the rest of the season with the World Cup in Brazil just around the corner. “In two weeks we have an appointment in London, and we will learn more,” said De Bruyne’s agent Patrick de Koster. Chelsea will reportedly offer Demba Ba in an attempt to sign Fredy Guarin from Inter Milan. The Blues have been strongly linked with the player this week, with Manchester United also thought to be interested in him. Guarin has featured prominently in the Inter side this season making 15 appearances and would be eligible to play in the Champions League. Match Report: SUNDERLAND 3 CHELSEA 4 05-12-2013 Summary Jose Mourinho 's men triumphed in the type of game that makes the Premier League so admired around the world. The defending from both sides wasn't always the best, from dead balls in Chelsea's case, but on a night when Eden Hazard was at times unplayable, three points for the visitors against the bottom club always looked likely. As at the weekend, we again came from behind, this time recovering from a goal conceded after 14 minutes rather than 14 seconds. Lampard scored from a chance created by Hazard who then netted twice with splendid strikes, either side of a Sunderland equaliser. The contest between the Chelsea winger and Phil Bardsley was one of the features of the game and the full-back put through his own net to make it 4-2 late on, but all the Sunderland goals came from set-pieces and it was Bardsley who made it tight once when he scored at the other end, but the Chelsea goal was not breached again. We claimed our third league win in a r ...

Jose Mourinhodefended Michael Essienafter the Ghanaian's howler gifted Southamptonan early lead in Chelsea's 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge. Essien's wayward backpass allowed Jay Rodriguez to put the visitors in front just 13 seconds into the match and put Mourinho's home unbeaten run in the Premier League under threat. But Chelsea rallied after the break and goals from Gary Cahill, John Terry and Demba Ba ensured no more ground was lost on league leaders Arsenal. And after the match Mourinho insisted he was pleased with Essien's performance, despite replacing him with Ba after just 45 minutes. "Everybody makes a mistake," Mourinho told reporters. "Strikers they miss goals, goalkeepers make mistakes and midfielders lose the ball, especially when they try to play, and he tried to play. "He had a very normal performance. He played the same way Mikel plays or when Luiz plays in midfield. "He played his part in the stability of the team but one yellow card for 45 minutes is a long time. I had to take one [of him ...

John Terry marked his 400th Premier League appearance with a crucial goal as Chelsea recovered from conceding inside 13 seconds to beat Southampton and go second in the table. The Blues had actually moved up a place on goal difference before kick-off, following Liverpool's defeat at Hull earlier in the day. But their hopes of staying there took an instant hit when an inexplicable Michael Essien volley allowed Jay Rodriguez to run through and put the visitors ahead. However a vastly improved second-half performance, full of purpose, saw Chelsea take the lead through headers from Gary Cahill and his centre-back partner Terry. Terry's Blues record John Terry is now fourth in Chelsea's list of all-time appearance makers, with 593, one ahead of John Hollins. Ron Harris leads the way with 795. Frank Lampard is third with 627. Terry has now also made 400 Premier League starts for the Blues. And half-time substitute Demba Ba sealed victory in the final minute, sliding the ball home from close range after a Ramire ...
Chelsea recovered from a shock early Southampton goal to win 3-1 and close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to four points again. Stamford Bridge was silenced in the first minute of Sunday's clash when Jay Rodriguez punished an error from Michael Essien - making his first Premier League start since May 2012 - to put Saints ahead. But second-half goals from Gary Cahill, John Terry and substitute Demba Ba produced an emphatic turnaround and kept the Blues on the Gunners' heels. Jose Mourinho made four changes to his side, with midfielders Juan Mata and Essien, striker Fernando Torres and forward Eden Hazard all starting. John Obi Mikel, Frank Lampard, Willian and the injured Samuel Eto'o were the players who made way following the 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat at Basel in midweek. Saints showed two changes from the side which began last weekend's loss at Arsenal, with Dejan Lovren and Dani Osvaldo replacing Jos Hooiveld and Rickie Lambert.
Cobham (United Kingdom) (AFP) - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho revealed on Friday he will not bring in a new striker when the transfer window opens in January. Mourinho has just three experienced front men to call upon in Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o as Belgium international Romelu Lukaku was allowed to go out on loan to top-flight rivals Everton in August. Torres has only just regained fitness after a spell on the sidelines however and Eto'o will miss Sunday's Premier League home game with Southampton because of an injury suffered during Tuesday's Champions League defeat in Basel. Ba, for his part, rarely starts so Chelsea appear to be at a disadvantage compared with title rivals Manchester City and Manchester United, who have greater strength in depth up front. It was suggested Mourinho had been busy lining up deals for some extra firepower, with AC Milan's Mario Balotelli and Jackson Martinez of Porto two names linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Reports claimed talks were at an advance ...
Chelseahave won only one and lost two of their five Barclays Premier League matches away so far this season ahead of the trip to Upton Park, where the Hammers claimed a 3-1 fixture last season. A second away defeat of the season at Newcastle was followed by a controversial home draw with West Brom which leaves Mourinho's men seeking their first Premier League win of November at the third attempt in east London prior to matches at Sunderland, Stoke and Arsenal before the year's end. "We have to do better," Mourinho said. "Our fixtures until now were not the easiest ones, especially when we speak about matches away. We've played already against two title contenders (Manchester United and Tottenham, both draws). "We've had difficult matches, but of course we want to do better and we need to get more points in the next five matches away than we did in the first five matches (away)." Mourinho was highly critical of his players' performance at Newcastle but does not know what to expect of his side following the ...
Jose Mourinho will expect Chelsea to revive their Premier League title challenge away to London rivals West Ham United on Saturday after their recent dip in form. Mourinho's men narrowly escaped a second successive league defeat immediately before the international break when a controversial penalty deep into stoppage time secured a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion. The debate surrounding Ramires's tumble that won the spot-kick has continued and diverted attention away from Chelsea's underwhelming display which followed an even more lacklustre effort in a defeat at Newcastle. Now Chelsea, currently four points behind leaders Arsenal, will attempt to rediscover their form at Upton Park against a West Ham side desperate for points following a disappointing start to the season that has left them on the fringes of the relegation zone. Blues defender David Luiz was one of the players who paid the price for the recent results, dropping out of the side for the last two matches. Gary Cahill stepped into the tea ...
Chelsea striker Demba Ba wants to leave the Premier League and join a Turkish club in January. (Evening Standard)
Eto'o too sharp for Schalke. A Timo Hildebrand howler helped Samuel Eto'o set Chelsea on their way to a 3-0 Champions League home win over Schalke on Wednesday night. The Cameroon striker scored his first goal in Europe for the Blues on 31 minutes after a bad mistake from visiting goalkeeper Hildebrand, and fired in a second nine minutes after the break. There was time for Eto'o's replacement Demba Ba to get on the scoresheet too seven minutes from time as Chelsea took control of Group E by matching their margin of victory in Gelsenkirchen on Matchday Three. Following Saturday's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Newcastle, Blues boss Jose Mourinho made six changes to his starting line-up. Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andre Schurrle, John Obi Mikel, Willian and Eto'o came in, with David Luiz, Ashley Cole, Juan Mata and Frank Lampard dropping to the bench. Fernando Torres was missing with a leg injury, but there was some confusion over why Eden Hazard was left out of the matchday 18. Before kick-off, Mourinho ...
Mourinho“ Torres has a muscular injury,We don’t know the dimension but we await the scans tomorrow, but tomorrow out and out for the weekend too. After that comes an international break. Let’s see if he can recover after that.”Chelsea next face Schalke 04 in UEFA Champions League play and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday. Either Samuel Eto’o or Demba Ba are likely to start in place of Torres.

The midfielder injured his ankle in training and is also doubtful to face Manchester United on Sunday, as well as play in England's friendlies with Chile and Germany this month. Chelsea boss Joe Mourinho will be allowed to recruit another striker in January after seeing Samuel Eto'o amd Fernando Torres score just one goal apiece in 10 Premier League games. Begovic scores for Stoke. He has scored as many Premier League goals this season as Fernando Torres, Papiss Cisse, Nikica Jelavic and Demba Ba combined.
Football News; Midfielder Mathieu Flamini misses the Emirates Stadium clash due to a groin injury. Mikel Arteta is suspended following his sending-off in Saturday's win at Crystal Palace, but Jack Wilshere (ankle) is fit. Serge Gnabry will be involved, if he can shake off an ankle knock ,along with Isaac Hayden and Ryo Miyaichi, but Theo Walcott (abdominal), Yaya Sanogo (back), Lukas Podolski (hamstring), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Abou Diaby (both knee) are all still out. Mourinho will give his fringe players an opportunity in Chelsea's second match in three days. The players who featured in Sunday's Premier League defeat of Manchester City will be rested, with a similar side selected to the one which won the previous round of the League Cup at Swindon. helsea manager has insisted that he is happy with his current strikeforce - despite the form of Romelu Lukaku at Everton. Mourinho, who sanctioned The Belgian's season-long loan move to Goodison Park, has come in for some criticism for allowing the Belgium international to leave Stamford Bridge while his other options - Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres - are not firing on all cylinders as yet this term. However, the Portuguese says that he is content with his marksmen in spite of their individual form, insisting that how they operate with the team is priority. He told Sky Sports: "I'm happy with all of them, I'm happy with all the strikers. "They were not scoring goals, but were working really hard, they doing a really good job for the team. "There are different ways to contribute, sometimes scoring goals - which is the most important thing of course - but there are other ways to contribute to a team performance and they always did, all three." Lukaku struck his fifth Premier League goal of the ...
chelsea 3-1 norwich.go chelsea, Eden Hazard and Willian rose from the bench to score late goals that earned Chelsea a 3-1 win away to Norwich City in the Premier League on Sunday. The substitutes netted in the 85th and 86th minutes to end Norwich's legitimate hopes of winning the game themselves after Anthony Pilkington had cancelled out Oscar's early opener for the visitors. With Fernando Torres both suspended and injured, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho chose Demba Ba over Samuel Eto'o to replace the Spaniard as his side's lone striker. And within seconds Ba almost won a penalty when he got in behind fit-again Norwich defender Sebastien Bassong and went down in the box under Michael Turner's challenge. Ba then set up Oscar in the fourth minute for the opening goal, a low, right-footed shot from the edge of the area beyond the reach of Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy. Norwich were forced to chase shadows for a spell and Juan Mata set up Ba for a shot that Ruddy did well to deflect behind, with the goalkeeper ...
Substitutes Eden Hazard and Willian netted late goals as Chelsea were made to work for a 3-1 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road. It took the Blues just over three minutes to take the lead in Sunday's Premier League encounter as Demba Ba, replacing the suspended Fernando Torres, held off Sebastien Bassong before teeing up Oscar to fire into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot. After a bout of pressure in the early stages of the second half, Norwich levelled through Anthony Pilkington when he headed past Petr Cech after Ricky van Wolfswinkel's knock-down had fallen into his path. Substitute Hazard restored Chelsea's lead on the counter-attack when his effort crept underneath John Ruddy before summer signing Willian secured the points with a stunning strike. With Torres unavailable, Jose Mourinho had opted for Ba to lead the line as opposed to Samuel Eto'o, as the Senegalese striker made only his second Premier League start of the season. The Chelsea boss was looking to secure his first league w ...
Jose Mourinho accepted responsibility for Chelsea's shock 2-1 loss at home to Basel and admitted it was 'one step back' in their bid for Champions League progress. It was Mourinho's first European game in charge of the club since his return this summer and Chelsea looked on course for victory when Oscar opened the scoring at the end of a tight first half. But the Blues squandered a number of chances to extend their lead and were stunned by late goals from Mohamed Salah and Marco Streller. The Blues were also beaten by Everton in the Premier League at the weekend, but Mourinho insisted after Wednesday's loss there was no need to panic. "I am the manager, I am responsible for everything," he told Sky Sports. "Especially after a bad result. In the good moments I want everyone to shine, in the bad moments I want everyone to keep calm. "Tomorrow I will not wake up with a smile on my face but at seven o'clock I will work hard to get three points against Fulham. "In the next match, we go to Bucharest (in the Cha ...

Mark Lawrenson, Football Analyst Tottenham v Chelsea (1245 BST) Lawro highlights Chelsea's lack of a standout striker as Jose Mourinho's biggest problem in these early weeks of the new season. On paper, Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Sammy Eto'o might seem like a decent spread of scorers but, in his weekly predictions column, Lawro is unconvinced. "At the moment, none of them are looking like the front man he needs and the loan of Romelu Lukaku to Everton looks a strange decision," Lawro said. "Sammy Eto'o needs to adjust to the Premier League after arriving from Anzhi - if he can get back to the level he was before he went to Russia in 2011, then he can solve Chelsea's striking problems. "At the moment, it doesn't look like he is the answer, but we should judge him after he has played 10 games."
Chelsea to make move and land Premier League powerhouse Chelsea could make a January swoop for Aston Villa star Christian Benteke, as boss Jose Mourinho is not happy with miss-firing strikers Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o. Since his prolific turn at Barca where he scored an incredible 152 goals in 232 games, Eto’o has not usually operated as a central striker. At Inter, he was often deployed wide of main marksman Diego Milito and during his time at Russian club Anzhi, played off of Lacina Traore. Fernando Torres has not been the feared striker he once was for a while, though he scored against Bayern in the Super Cup, and the club were prepared to let Ba leave in the summer before blocking his transfer to Arsenal. Christian Benteke, however, was apparently ready to leave Aston Villa when he handed in a transfer request before his incredible U-turn that saw him commit to the Midlanders. The powerful Belgian had a tremendous debut season in England, scoring 19 goals and rumours circulated he ...
Goals scored by Chelsea strikers in the Premier League this season: Fernando Torres + Samuel Eto'o + Demba Ba = 0. John Obi Mikel = 1.
HARD TACKLE When Jose Mourinho looks at the contribution of Chelsea’s forward line ahead of tonight's Champions League clash with Basle, it makes painful reading. Chelsea’s recognised strikers have spent 443 minutes on the field in five matches and scored just once. Fernando Torres' early strike against Bayern Munich in the European Super Cup in Prague is the only goal scored by a Chelsea forward this season. Demba Ba started against Aston Villa and would have left Chelsea on loan in the transfer window if Romelu Lukaku had decided against a move to Everton for the rest of the season. Lukaku, who was unfortunate to miss in the penalty shootout against Bayern, made three substitute appearances for Chelsea and couldn’t score. Eto’o, who should have headed Ramires’ delicious cross into the net at Goodison Park, completes the quartet of struggling strikers. Before he made his Chelsea debut last Saturday evening, Eto’o last played a competitive fixture for Anzhi in a 3-0 defeat at Zenit St Petersbu ...
Newcastle are the only club in the Premier League to have not spent any money on permanent transfers in the summer transfer window. Andre Ayew, Demba Ba, Florian Thauvin and Jonathan Bond were all linked with Newcastle during transfer deadline, but none of those links amounted to a move to St James' Park. The club will be pleased that Yohan Cabaye remains at the club, but fans have already expressed concern that the only player to arrive at the club this summer is Loic Remy on a loan deal.
When the Premier League started in 1992, it included just one footballer known to be Muslim, Tottenham's Spanish midfielder Nayim. England's top division now features 40 Muslim players and they are having a significant effect on the culture of the game. On 5 February, 2012, Newcastle United played Aston Villa at St James' Park and one moment symbolised the impact Muslim players were having on the Premier League. After 30 minutes, Demba Ba scored for the home side. He raced to the corner flag and was joined by Senegalese compatriot Papiss Cisse. The two devout Muslims then sank to their knees in prayer.
Arouna Kone could be Joe Kinnear's 1st piece of business as Newcastle's director of football as they hope to prize him away from Wigan this summer. Kone bagged himself 13 goals in a season that saw the Latics relegated to the Championship and with a £5 million minimum release clause has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs. Alan Pardew is keen to bolster his sides striking options as he lost Demba Ba to Chelsea last January for a cut price of £7.5 million. If Newcastle are to snap up the 29 year old they will have to fight off competition from former Wigan boss Roberto Martinez at Everton as well as Liverpool. Pardew is thought to be interested in Aston Villa out of favour Darren Bent but the Magpies have baulked at the £8 million valuation placed on him by the Villans. Kone would prove a significantly cheaper option with the club already having spent upwards of £18 million in the January transfer window this year.
IMO Gareth Barry, James Milner, Demba Ba and Cleverley are the most over rated Premier League players at the moment.
Newcastle United have confirmed they will take on Braga at St James’s Park a week before the Premier League season kicks off. The game will start at 6pm on Saturday August 10 and is likely to be the last friendly of the summer for Alan Pardew’s side. The Magpies have confirmed this will be the club’s only home friendly of pre-season. Newcastle met Braga last summer and won 2-1 through goals from Demba Ba and Ryan Taylor. The Portuguese side finished fourth last season and also competed in the Champions League, where they were knocked out in a group containing Manchester United. They won the Portuguese League Cup last term and will compete in next season’s Europa League. /Loraine
- Schurrle deal agreed after Son sale Having won the Premier League in two of his three full seasons during his previous stint at the club, expectations are high. Known to be rather authoritarian in his approach, it has been rumoured that Mourinho wants to make a *** of a stamp on the team, with David Luiz and Juan Mata amongst those who could be forced out. Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid manager is the big-name boss who many expect to be able to attract big-name signings. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani are just a few names to have been mentioned of late. While Falcao has instead chosen the French Riviera, Ibra and Cavani could still come to London, and either would be wholly capable of improving a misfiring front line that has seen Fernando Torres or Demba Ba start in the lone striker role all season. With countless below par performances, and respective conversion rates of 11.8% and 11.1% in the Premier League this season, few would deny that that is the area which most needs . ...
Stamford Bridge side set to sign Uruguayan? French source Le10Sport claim that Chelsea have jumped to the head of the ever growing queue of suitors keen to land Napoli goal machine Edinson Cavani. The West London side have reportedly triggered the 26 year old forward’s €63m (£53m) release clause and have done so before the likes of Real Madrid and Man City, leaving many to believe that the Uruguayan is on his way to Stamford Bridge. Indeed Cavani could well be one of Jose Mourinho’s first signings of the summer and arguably resolves Chelsea’s main area of weakness, namely the lack of a prolific forward. Fernando Torres managed just eight goals in 36 Premier League matches last term and Demba Ba proved something of a disappointment since his January move to join the Blues and even though Mourinho seems keen to welcome back youngster Romelu Lukaku back into the First Team set-up after an excellent season on loan at West Brom, there is still scope for the signing of a ‘Marquee’ capture to boost ...
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to be unveiled to media at Monday press conference Jose Mourinho will begin his second reign as Chelsea manager on Monday with a host of key decisions to make. The Portuguese left Real Madrid to resume control of the club he led between 2004 and 2007, winning two Premier League titles during an infamous first tenure at Stamford Bridge. With the Blues having failed to mount a serious challenge for the championship in the last three terms, Mourinho is faced with several tough choices over the summer - most significantly regarding the strikers at his disposal. Rumours abound that Demba Ba's Chelsea career will be cut short and with Fernando Torres failing to recapture his form of old since arriving in West London for a reported £50m in 2011, Mourinho is expected to be a busy man in wheeling and dealing forwards before the season begins. Mourinho's Chelsea story . One man who may provide him with some firepower free-of-charge is 20-year-old Belgium star Romelu Lukaku, who return ...
Exclusive - Jason Cundy: New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho must get rid of Demba Ba and land a marquee striker

They achieved the tally AGAINST the Toffees side when Demba Ba scored at Goodison Park in a 2-2 draw in September. 5. It’s clear that Chelsea need help at the striker position, after getting just 10 Premier League goals from the combination of Fernando Torres and January signing Demba Ba. The Blues have long been linked with Napoli striker Edinson Cavani and are set to ramp up their efforts to sign the Uruguayan hitman, with an offer of €30 million plus Spanish international Fernando Torres. The 26-year-old striker has been nothing short of world-class during his time in Naples, scoring an amazing 78 goals in 104 Serie A appearances. In his 37 appearances in the Serie A and Europa League this year, Cavani scored 33 goals and contributed four assists, meaning he was directly involved in one goal per game, an outstanding statistic. Cavani is a very potent finisher, solid in the air, excels at hold up play and has a great motor that allows him to track back defensively. New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has preferred a 4-2-3-1 for years and his lone striker must be able to hold the ball, something which Cavani can do ve ...

Chelsea Final Season Ratings . It's a bit long but Take a read. .Comment your thoughts .. Juan Mata: 9 At one point when the debate about Demba Ba and Fernando Torres escalated, and Rafa Benitez was asked whether he might play the two together, the manager immediately ruled it out as that would also involve taking Juan Mata away from his best position. That perfectly illustrates his importance. If the playmaker isn't there, Chelsea aren't the same team. He combines selfless industry with individual innovation to both help the side overcome many of their issues and also become better than what they are. That probably explains why, despite what will end up as a gruelling 69-game season, he has already appeared in 62 of those matches. The club's player of the season, and almost the Premier League's too. rumour mill kicking into gear and linking the club with "big players" but is happy with his own improvement and hopes to stay long-term EXCLUSIVE By Alex Labidou Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is confident that he is ready for the challenge of next season despite the likelihood of "big players" giving him competition for a striking berth. The Spaniard scored 23 goals for the Blues across all competitions in 2012-13 but, after the arrival of Demba Ba in January, only netted once in the Premier League, on the last day of the season. Asked if the possibility of the club recruiting more strikers concerns him, however, Torres told Goal: "No. It's Chelsea. Obviously, big players are linked with the club. It's normal, especially in this period of the year with the summer. The places and names of players that every year [are linked] - we'll see what happens." Radamel Falcao was close to sealing a move to Chelsea before Monaco stole a march to take pole position for his signature, while Napoli's Edinson Cavani an ...

Chelsea: Top 10 goals of the season David Luiz, Juan Mata & Frank Lampard have all scored sensational goals for the Europa League champions this season Chelsea won the Europa League and finished third in the Premier League, scoring some memorable goals along the way. But which were the best 10? 10. Frank Lampard v Newcastle A mad game at St James' Park, which Chelsea went on to lose in the last moments of the game. With Jonas Gutierrez putting the Magpies in front after there was a shout for Fabricio Coloccini to be sent off following an injury he caused to Demba Ba, it summed up Chelsea's first-half performance. Nevertheless they responded well in the second half and, when needed, the man for any Chelsea occasion popped up again. With Chelsea on the attack that seemed to be resulting in not very much, Lampard collected Ashley Cole's pass and by his standards controlled it poorly on his chest but making up for it by taking it past Yohan Cabaye with a superb touch and lashed a powerful effort into the top ...

Nigerian striker Victor Moses did not make the trip to Bucharest for Thursday's Europa League clash with Steaua Bucharest as expected. The Super Eagles attacker and Brazilian Ramires were left behind as the others boarded the flight to Bulgaria on Wednesday. It was learnt that Rafa Benitez chose to rest the pair ahead of Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final match against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Striker Demba Ba also missed the trip but in his own case he is cup-tied after playing for Newcastle in the competition before crossing over to Chelsea. Interim manager Benitez has placed high premium on the FA Cup as that is one of the two trophies still available to the English club. Chelsea set unenviable record this season as the first defending champions to drop out at the group stage. Having lost out of the Premier League chase, the FA Cup is the only domestic trophy still within reach. The African Nations Cup star rallied his team mates last week to work harder after they defeated Middlesbrough 2-0 to bo ...
THE DATA DAY: CHELSEA V West Bromwich Albion Posted on: Mon 04 Mar 2013 1goal was enough to win the game vs West Brom at Stamford Bridge,&as the stats showed,it was a deserved victory… Saturday's success was only the 2nd occasion this season in which we secured 3points with a 1-0 win,the previous time coming vs Stoke City, also at home, back in September. It was also the 1st time we kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since the 4-0 away win against Tony Pulis' side in the middle of January. A solitary Demba Ba strike ultimately proved decisive on Saturday, but the Blues dominated for much of the game&could have won by a bigger margin had it not been for the performance of Ben Foster in the West Brom goal,as Rafael Benitez reflected after the final whistle. In total,we had 24 attempts on goal,9 of which were on target with 7 saved by Foster. Ba had 6 attempts, hitting the target with 4,while Oscar, who endured a frustrating afternoon in front of goal, had 7 attempts, also hitting the target 4 times. Surp ...
Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez ended a turbulent week with the satisfaction of victory as West Bromwich Albion were beaten at Stamford Bridge. Benitez's strained relationship with Chelsea's supporters appeared to reach breaking point after he publicly rounded on those who had been criticising him after Wednesday's 2-0 FA Cup fifth-round win atMiddlesbrough. The Spaniard insisted he will stay in charge until the end of his contract in May despite describing the decision to hand him his interim title as "a massive mistake" - and Demba Ba's first-half goal offered some relief by puttingChelsea back in third place in the Premier League. Despite fears Benitez could be the subject of increased hostility following his outburst, the atmosphere insideStamford Bridge was relatively calm as Chelsea secured a winthat was more convincing than the narrow scoreline suggested. Chelsea's fans still made their feelings towards Benitez clear with the familiar chants and banners unflatteringly labelling him "The Inter ...
Rafa Benitez is likely to make sweeping changes to the starting XI he sent out for a midweek FA Cup fifth round victory over Middlesbrough when Chelsea return to Premier League action against West Brom. Paulo Ferreira, Ryan Bertrand, Nathan Ake, Victor Moses and Yossi Benayoun are likely to be among those to make way, with Ashley Cole, David Luiz, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard and Demba Ba pushing for recalls.
SPIRITED Man City OVER POWER CHELSEA Football - Premier League Hart save inspires Man City to win over Chelsea Premier League, Etihad Stadium - Manchester City 2 (Y Toure 63, Tevez 85), Chelsea 0 Joe Hart's brilliant penalty save from Frank Lampard helped Manchester City to a 2-0 Premier League win over Chelsea. Hart sprung to his right to palm away Lampard's powerful spot-kick to keep the game goalless early in the second half. Yaya Toure then scored the opening goal just after the hour mark with a rare moment of composure inside the box, ghosting past John Obi Mikel and curling his shot inside the far post. And substitute Carlos Tevez put the result beyond doubt late on with a rasping finish from 20 yards. But Hart's save - coming after he clumsily brought Demba Ba down to concede the spot-kick - remains the stand-out moment as he denied his England colleague Lampard with exceptional agility. The win keeps City 12 points behind neighbours Manchester United at the top of the table. The title remains a fa ...
Sparta Praha vs Chelsea 2 @ 1.80 Rafa Benitez wasn;t very popular among the fans of Chelsea and now it has the days counted as manager of Chalsea. Of course he made some good movements as manager here, remember what he got from David Luiz, he also brought Demba Ba and tried the best with Torres, sometimes he managed to get him right. Chelsea will take Europa League quite seriously and I think they are going to look for a win. I do not think Abramovic will tolerate something else here. Sparta played just friendlies and will have some problems due to that fact. Chelsea is at full speed in Premier League and the win over Wigan might have lifted their morale up!. David Luiz (suspended), Demba Ba (cup-tied), Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel (Africa Nations) will not play, but Gary Cahill and Petr Cech are fit and will be on the pitch. Also John Terry. Expect Chelsea to win!
Wilfried Bony set to complete move to Russia. Newcastle United and West Ham are set to miss out on transfer target Wilfried Bony with the striker set to complete a big-money move to Russia. Vitesse Arnhem forward Bony is the Dutch Eredivisie’s top scorer having found the net 18 times already, and that form was what caught the eye of Newcastle United’s chief scout Graham Carr as well as West Ham boss Sam Allardyce. Source: Sportinglife He was initially targeted by Newcastle over a move in January, but his international commitments with the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations meant they put the interest on hold until the summer as they search for a long-term replacement for Demba Ba. West Ham, meanwhile, were linked with a £12million move in the summer with Andy Carroll not guaranteed to turn his season-long loan spell from Liverpool into a permanent deal, which the Hammers have first refusal on. And both Premier League clubs look likely to lose out with Bony expecting to make a move to Russia in ...
Chelsea 4 Wigan 1 In-Depth Match Summary Stats Chelsea survived a scare of the possibility of losing a two goal lead for the third time in 2013 by taking their chances and giving Rafa Benitez a rare Stamford Bridge win. Goals from Ramires, Hazard, Lampard and Marin handed the hosts a score-line that looks like a one-sided affair. It wasn’t as clear-cut as that. Wigan managed twelve chances and at 2-1 down the away side were looking likeliest to score and a baffling decision from Rafa Benitez to leave Juan Mata and Demba Ba on the bench would have surely cost him his job if Wigan had scored. However Rafa keeps his job for now after Chelsea successfully picked up three vital points. The performance of Frank Lampard will be the main talking point with the midfielder scoring his third goal of the week and eleventh in the Premier League this season. Lampard also created four chances (more than anyone else in the game) and had five attempts at goal. The returning Eden Hazard was also as impressive with a goal ...
Terry out, Ba back for Chelsea Chelsea will be without captain John Terry for Saturday's Premier League match at home to relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic as the centre back has an inflamed knee, manager Rafael Benitez said. "It's a setback but not serious," Benitez told reporters. The former England skipper has been dogged by a knee problem this season, returning to action in January after two months out. Benitez said their Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech and Senegal striker Demba Ba were both available after pulling out of midweek internationals through injury. Ba suffered a broken nose in the 3-2 league defeat at his former club Newcastle United last weekend and has been training in a protective mask. Third-placed Chelsea, seven points behind Manchester City and 16 adrift of leaders Manchester United, have won only three of their last 10 matches in all competitions. Benitez said that, while he was happy enough with recent displays, the Londoners needed to be more clinical and not let leads slip ...

John Terry is out of Chelsea's Premier League match against Wigan on Saturday after suffering inflammation of his knee. Goalkeeper Petr Cech (finger) and Demba Ba (broken nose) are expected to be fit, with the striker in line to play with a protective face mask, while Eden Hazard is available again after serving his three-match ban for his dismissal for kicking a ball boy against Swansea. David Luiz played for Brazil in mid-week and is available following a calf injury, meaning only John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses due to Nigeria's involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations final, plus long-term absentee Oriol Romeu (knee), miss out. Provisional squad: Cech, Turnbull, Azpilicueta, Ferreira, Luiz, Ivanovic, Cahill, Cole, Bertrand, Lampard, Ramires, Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Marin, Benayoun, Torres, Ba, Ake, Hilario.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has urged his side to be more clinical in front of goal as they bid to avoid a trophy-less season. Wednesday's exit from the Capital One Cup, after failing to score in either leg of their semi-final with Swansea, means the Blues have already missed out on five competitions this term, with the Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, World Club Championship and UEFA Champions League added to their League Cup exit. Rafael Benitez's side also trail Premier League leaders Manchester United by 11 points, and goalkeeper Cech has placed the blame for their predicament squarely at the feet of their forward players. While Benitez has defended Fernando Torres, who has now gone eight games without a goal, the interim boss opted to go with Demba Ba up front at the Liberty Stadium knowing his side needed at least two goals, and appeared reluctant to introduce Torres as a substitute. The former Inter Milan boss insisted his selection was simply down to rotation, but Cech knows, regardless of who p ...
Yoan Gouffran, who could make his debut at Villa on Tuesday, believes he will be able to replace Demba Ba. "What's my big assets?" he said. "Speed. I'm fast and I score goals. Can I score as many as Demba Ba? Yes. I'm a centre-forward. I have proven that I can score goals in France. It will be different in the Premier League and it is up to me to make sure I go on the pitch and score and do everything I can to succeed in the Premier League, a different country."
Mo Diame is ready to leave West Ham - just six months after joining the club.According to a story in this morning's Daily Mail, Diame wants the opportunity to speak with a number of potential suitors - including tonight's Premier League opponents Arsenal - who have made their interest in the 25-year-old known.Despite West Ham's best efforts, the midfielder - who it is claimed, sees his future away from Upton Park - has steadfastly refused to sign new, improved terms which would replace the paltry £3.5million release fee clause in his current contract. But in a twist, it is also claimed that the Senegalese international is now threatening to report West Ham to FIFA for refusing to allow other clubs, who are willing to meet the minimum fee release clause, to speak with him.West Ham, who are yet to respond, are understood to have given Diame until tomorrow (Thursday) to make a final decision with regards to signing a new contract - presumably so they made find an adequate replacement before the transfer dead ...
Sky Sports News--Newcastle have agreed a fee with Nancy for Massadio Haidara, according to Sky sources. The France U21 defender emerged as a target for Alan Pardew earlier this month and has also been linked with Roma. Haidara's priority is to join a Premier League club, and he could now get his wish after Nancy accepted an undisclosed offer. He said recently: "Newcastle do appeal to me, but everyone has to agree. "I would be very happy to play there. My preference is England. It is the league which attracts me the most and would suit my game the best." Haidara is the third French defender pursued by Newcastle this transfer window. Mathieu Debuchy has already arrived and a bid for Montpellier's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been agreed.
CHELSEA vs ARSENAL Managers under immense pressure clash on Sunday when Arsene Wenger's Arsenal travel to face Rafael Benitez's Chelsea. Though it almost comes with the territory now, the return of the chorus of boos will bother Benitez no end after he saw his side surrender a scarcely deserved 2-0 half-time lead to a plucky Southampton side on Wednesday. The draw leaves Chelsea with only one win in their past six Premier League games at home with Stamford Bridge resembling little of the fortress it once was under Jose Mourinho some seasons ago. New signing Demba Ba provided the solitary positive against Saints with his third goal in as many games since his move from Newcastle, and may just have dislodged much-maligned Spaniard Fernando Torres, who was also booed when he came on for the final 10 minutes. But Chelsea's title hopes, like Arsenal's appear to have been well and truly dashed. The Blues are now 13 points behind leaders Manchester United, who entertain Champions League rivals Tottenham on Sunda ...
Newcastle are targeting a £9million deal for Ajax playmaker Siem De Jong in a bid to save their torrid season. The Magpies have seen the loss of their top goal-scorer and talisman so far this window, with Demba Ba completing a long-awaited £7.5 million move to Chelsea. Only full back Mathieu Debuchy has been added to the rank so far at St James, another transfer that was a long time in the waiting. However Newcastle will miss the goals of Demba Ba and had thought they had found a natural replacement in Marseille striker Loic Remy. Top talent spotter Graham Carr had watched Remy numerous times and even Alan Pardew thought that the deal for Remy would go through this month without too many complications. That was until Harry Redknapp's QPR stepped in with their astronomical £80,000 a week offer for Remy to join their fight for Premier League survival. So Pardew has now turned to Ajax star Siem De Jong to help change Newcastle's fortunes. De Jong can play in midfield but is more well known for occupying t ...
A day that began with high hopes of United boosting their squad by completing the transfer of Marseille's Loic Remy ended with the French international forward apparently reversing an earlier decision to snub QPR and heading to Loftus Road to conclude a move there instead. It's reported that the R's are offering a weekly salary in the region of £70-80K, far outstripping anything we were able to put on the table - even for Demba Ba, let alone a player who has never set foot in the Premier League. Newcastle United remain just two points above the Premier League relegation zone after being held to a 0-0 draw in an uneventful game at mid-table Norwich City on Saturday.
Demba Ba: “I do not like when I compare with Mario Balotelli, before everything … I do not smoke and drink alcool, and I pray 5 times each day in the mosque” Alan Pardew said: ‘You have to respect that some players have a different religion to most of the footballers in this country. We need different facilities for them. It’s important that whatever the religion, we take care of it and understand it.’ Dedicated prayer rooms are not new in English football although they are few and far between, and the Premier League’s first multi-faith prayer room inside a stadium was unveiled only four years ago at Blackburn. That was as much in response to the multicultural make-up of the local population as to the demand from players. Bolton also have a prayer room, as do Manchester City who have four practising Muslims in their first-team squad — Yaya and Kolo Toure, Edin Dzeko and Samir Nasri. Other Premier League stars sharing their faith include Ali Al-Habsi of Wigan, Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh, ...
Loic Remy has told close friends that his most likely destination this January will be Newcastle United. The Chronicle understands that despite talk of interest from the Bundesliga, the 26-year-old France international will either sign for the Magpies – or stay with Marseille until the summer if Newcastle and the Velodrome club can’t agree a fee. Both Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund have expressed an interest, yet Remy’s preferred destination is thought to be the Premier League. Toon officials are in France trying to thrash out a deal for the forward as they continue their bid to replace Demba Ba. Meetings which took place last week at Newcastle’s Benton base resulted in Mike Ashley giving the green light to pursue Remy, and a fresh plea from Alan Pardew in the aftermath of the 2-0 loss at Brighton in the FA Cup have also increased the intensity of chase. Newcastle have not submitted an offer for Remy at this stage with Marseille understandably keen to see if there are any additional offers for t ...

Sky Sports sources understands Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Metalist Kharkiv midfielder Taison, but face competition for his signature from another Premier League club. Taison revealed earlier this month that he had spoken to Chelsea about a possible move to the club after making a visit to West London. The Brazilian joined Metalist two-and-a-half years ago from Internacional, where he played with current Chelsea midfielder Oscar. Metalist are reluctant to lose the attacking midfielder, but Chelsea are believed to have agreed a fee with the Ukrainian side and have agreed personal terms with Taison. However, an unnamed Premier League club is also thought to have made an approach to Metalist for Taison and are ready to rival Chelsea for his signature. Chelsea remain favourites to land Taison and are hopeful of pushing through a deal to make him their second signing of this month's transfer window following the capture of Demba Ba. .prince.

Southampton 1-5 Chelsea: Ba debut double keeps holders marching on 6 January, 2013 Sports FA Cup holder Chelsea came from a goal down against Southampton to progress from the third round of this year's competition with a 5-1 win at St. Mary's. Rafa Benitez's men bell behind midway in the first-half when Jay Rodriguez beat Ross Turnbull in a one-on-one, but were soon on level terms through a debut goal from Demba Ba. Just before the break Victor Moses but the visitors ahead and then, soon after, goals from Branislav Ivanovic and a second for Ba confirmed the victory, before a late Frank Lampard penalty put the icing on the cup-cake. The result will go some way towards making up for a poor defeat at the hands of Premier League bottom-boys QPR on Wednesday. Ba made his first start for the Blues in one of five changes from the defeat to QPR. Ashley Cole, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Ramires also returning in a strong line-up. : Demba Ba is a Senegalese footballer who plays as a striker for Premier League side Chelsea and the Senegal national team. Born in France, Ba played youth team football with French teams Port Autonome du Havre, Frileuse and Montrouge and with English team Watford. He made his first-team debut with French team Rouen in 2006 before moving to Mouscron and onto 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany in 2007. In 2011, he moved to English Premier League side West Ham United. He played only 12 games for West Ham and despite being their league top goal scorer for season 2010–11, they were relegated to the Championship and Ba moved to Newcastle United. In January 2013, Ba completed a move to European champions Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

Demba Ba 'has been honourable' says Alan Pardew
Newcastle United chairman Mike Ashley's canny wage structure has been revealed by Demba Ba's move to Chelsea. The Daily Mail says Ba transfer saga has revealed Newcastle owner Ashley’s salary strategy — to keep the basic wages as low as possible but hand out incentives for success. Ba, who wants £80,000 a week at Chelsea, was on about £40,000 at St James’ Park, plus another £20,000 per appearance. In the same way, manager Alan Pardew is comparatively poorly paid for a top Premier League manager but has big bonuses built in and the security of an eight-year contract with no break clauses.

The club is working [on it]. If we can do the business, I hope he can be available for Southampton [on Saturday] but I cannot say too much. Al ...
Concrete discussions between Newcastle and Marseille over striker Loic Remy are set to take place in the next few days, according to French sports magazine Le 10 Sport. Newcastle are losing striker Demba Ba to fellow Premier League club Chelsea and the search for a replacement has started with a real sense of urgency. The Magpies have been consistently linked with making a move for Remy and now the time looks right for Alan Pardew’s men to firm up their interest. While Marseille coach Elie Baup has stated his belief that Remy is staying put at the Stade Velodrome this month, the French side’s focus on budget cuts makes rejecting a substantial bid for the 26-year-old look difficult. It is thought a bid of around €10M will be enough to snap up the speedy striker, a figure well within reach for Newcastle. A whole host of other English clubs have been linked with Remy at points over the last six months, including Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, QPR, West Ham and Everton. Remy has endured a difficult season ...
Expected top-transfers -Shayan 10) Marouane Fellaini - Everton Chelsea and Manchester United are both interested in Everton's brilliant bruiser. Fellaini would add bite and goals to both those midfields and he'd jump at the chance to play Champions League football. Everton know that a big-money offer would be hard to turn down. 9) Darren Bent - Aston Villa Bent is on the way out of Aston Villa. It has been an open secret for weeks if not months and the impact of Christian Benteke has underlined that fact. The bidding will start at £15million though but to be fair 28-year-old Bent is a proven Premier League striker. 8) Wesley Sneijder - Inter Milan A magnificent player on his day and is still only 28. He would be a magnificent signing for any Premier League club - bar none. There is an interesting contract wrangle between him and Inter too which has seen him frozen out from the First Team since December. Spurs have been in for him even before the hare has started running as the word in Italy is that Inter ...
Demba Ba: Chelsea trigger Newcastle striker's release clause Comments (373) Chelsea have triggered the release clause in Newcastle forward Demba Ba's contract. Ba, 27, has been given permission to speak to Chelsea and will miss Wednesday's game against Everton. It is believed his contract contains a clause which allows him to speak to other clubs in the event of a £7m bid. The Senegalese, who joined Newcastle from West Ham in June 2011, is currently joint-second top scorer in the Premier League with 13 goals. Did you know? Ba has scored 36 Premier League goals since arriving in 2011. Only Robin Van Persie (64) and Wayne Rooney (44) have more in that era. Newcastle have attempted to negotiate a New Deal with the Senegal international in recent months, which would remove the clause, but it became active on 1 January. Earlier this week, Magpies boss Alan Pardew was hopeful Ba would stay but criticised the network of people representing the player. However he is now resigned to losing Ba. He told Sky Sports: ...

Who could be off? A look at some of January's potential transfer targets There should be no shortage of talent available when the transfer window re-opens in 2013. Wesley Sneijder, Inter The Dutch playmaker has been frozen out of the First Team at the San Siro after refusing to take a pay cut. Sneijder has publicly commented that it would be better for him to find a new team in the January window, putting several big name clubs on red alert. Early reports that he had agreed to terms with Tottenham appear to be premature, so several other Premier League teams could be in for the midfielder, including Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United. Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala has also been mooted as a possible destination. Demba Ba, Newcastle The Senegalese striker has been a huge hit for the Toon, scoring 29 goals in 54 league appearances. With a paltry 7.5 million pound buyout clause, Ba has attracted the interest of many top clubs, and his public flirtations with other teams has virtually assured ...

According to some Liverpool fans, "Luis Suarez is the best player in the Premier League." what do you think of this? I would say he isn't even the best striker let alone the best player. I'd have Michu, Van Persie, Demba Ba and Aguero over Suarez. Suarez is a good player but not the best by a long shot.

EPL WEEK 19 ROUND UP United leave it late, City slump to defeat December 26, 2012 Manchester United extended their lead in the Premier League table to seven points after they triumphed in a seven-goal thriller against Newcastle, while Manchester City slumped to defeat at Sunderland. Chelsea closed the gap in third with a narrow win at Norwich, while Everton defeated Wigan. • Rooney out for up to three weeks Javier Hernandez scored a dramatic late winner as Manchester United claimed a thrilling 4-3 win against Newcastle United. Newcastle had lost six of their last eight league matches, but buoyed by victory at home to Queens Park Rangers last weekend, grabbed the lead inside four minutes. Demba Ba, who had an early chance in the opening seconds, played a big part in the first goal as David De Gea palmed the Senegal striker's shot into the path of James Perch, who had a simple finish for his first strike for the club. With Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck all unavailable, Javier Hernandez star ...
Javier Hernandez snatched victory for Manchester United in a pulsating and controversial 4-3 Premier League victory over Newcastle at Old Trafford in which Alan Pardew's side led on three occasions. The Red Devils looked as though they would have to settle for a point at best but struck at the start of added time as the Mexico striker applied the finishing touch to Jonny Evans' cross to spark jubilation from a previously furious Sir Alex Ferguson as his side moved seven points clear of Manchester City following their shock 1-0 defeat at Sunderland. Newcastle made a dream start as they were gifted the lead with only four minutes on the clock. Michael Carrick failed to control the ball in midfield with Demba Ba advancing towards the United box before unleashing a low shot which David De Gea could only push into the path of the grateful James Perch to tap home. United were back on terms in the 25th minute when Evans applied the finishing touch at the right end from close range after Tim Krul could only half ...

TRANSFER UPDATE: Robert Lewandowski is a huge possibility for Manchester United as rumours fly he has agreed terms for next summer. Nani has been linked heavily to a move with Inter Milan. The Portugese winger who has been an outcast for United over the month has been linked with Inter and AC Milan. Newcastle United reported have offered Marseiile 10 million pounds for the services for Loic Remy. This has raise doubts over the future of their top scorer Demba Ba. Strong reports suggest that Daniel Sturridge will move to Anfield for 12 million pounds from Chelsea. The move will take him to Liverpool after failure to find First Team place and having an injury plagued season. And finally, Sam Allardyce will do all in his power to sign Former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka. Anelka who had a brilliant career with Allardyce when they were at Bolton, has been a hit in the Premier League wherever he has played.
Most lethal offensive force in the Premier League from the following? - Aguero and Tevez - Van Persie and Rooney - Podolski, Giroud and Walcott - Bale, Defoe and Lennon - Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse [nc]
5 - Demba Ba has scored five goals in his last six Premier League appearances at St James Park. Threat.
2) We need to go back to the old day's when we had black strong powerhouses like Viera,Sol Campbell,Kolo Toure and etc. I really wished we signed Chris Samba in 2011. But Diame and Demba Ba have release clauses of less than 7 million so they could be signed. Plus there proven in the Premier League. Especially in midfield the strength and drive of Song is missing and we've needed to sign a new Adebayor since he left and Ba could be it. This comment is not racist. I have best friends who are white and I'm not against white footballers my favourite players are Cristiano Ronaldo,Wilshere and Isco.
Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool are set to be outbid for Newcastle’s Demba Ba by Russian giants Anzhi Makhachkala.

PALESTINE | Footballers Condemn Plans To Hold U21 European Championship In Israel. 'A group of Premier League footballers and players in other major European leagues have condemned plans to hold the Under-21 European championship in Israel next year, saying it will be seen as a "reward" for this month's assault on Gaza in which young people playing football were killed when a sports stadium was bombed. The signatories, who include Eden Hazard of Chelsea, Abou Diaby of Arsenal and five Newcastle players – Papiss Cissé, Cheick Tioté, Sylvain Marveaux, Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba – also criticised Israel's continued detention without charge or trial of two Palestinian footballers. Several former Premier League players have also signed the letter, including Didier Drogba and Frédéric Kanouté, both of whom now play in China. Players with QPR, Stoke, Blackburn and Ipswich are among the signatories along with footballers in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Turkey. (straNger)
BA ON TOP FORM AS NEWCASTLE DOMINATE After a disastrous November, it was a happy Monday on Tyneside after Demba Ba's double and Gael Bigirimana's first goal gave United a welcome win over Wigan. A crucial decision finally went in our favour as Papiss Cisse was sent tumbling in the box by Maynor Figueroa and was red-carded before Ba tucked away the penalty after just 13 minutes. And eight minutes later it was pretty much game over when Davide Santon's shot was pushed out by Ali Al Habsi to Ba who tucked in the rebound to take his Premier League tally into double figures. Bigirimana came on at the break for Cheick Tiote, who was walking a disciplinary tightrope, effectively one tackle away from a suspension and made his mark with just under 20 minutes remaining with a fantastic first strike for the club. The Burundi born Bigirimana tucked in a beautiful 25-yard strike with his left foot, giving the keeper no chance, clearly one of the goals he'd remember. FT: Newcastle United 3-0 Wigan Athletic D. A classic Premier League rivalry is renewed on Sunday afternoon, as Manchester United travel to Newcastle. Sir Alex Ferguson will be looking for a response from his side after they lost to Tottenham in their last Premier League fixture, although Robin Van Persie inspired a Champions League victory in midweek. Alan Pardew will play his first home match since being awarded an 8-year-contract, and is expected to start with the leagues most in form striker Demba Ba for the visit of United. Ba opened the scoring in the corresponding fixture last season, with a superb half volley. Newcastle ran out 3-0 winners that night, in a match that eventually had a huge baring on where the title ended up. Pardew named a strong side for the midweek win over Bordeaux, but the fact the likes of Ba, Ben Arfa and Davide Santon remained unused substitutes suggested they will start Sunday’s clash. Defenders Fabricio Coloccini (hamstring) and Steven Taylor (calf) and Ryan Taylor remain unavailable. United have a long injury lis ...
