Guardiola: Torres perfect for Atletico The coach lauded Diego Simeone's decision to bring the former club captain back to the Vicente Calderon and believes they pose a threat to Bayern's Champions League chances By Miles Chambers Jan 16, 2015 23:36:00 Former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola believes that Atletico Madrid have hit the jackpot by bringing Fernando Torres back to the Vicente Calderon. Torres left La Liga for Liverpool in 2007, one year before Guardiola famously took the reins at Camp Nou, and returned earlier this month on loan from AC Milan having flopped at San Siro and Chelsea before that. Football pundits and fans were split over whether Torres would burden another club with his lack of goals, but he stunned arch-rivals Real Madrid on Thursday by scoring a double to knock the holders out of the Copa Del Rey at the last-16 stage. Guardiola, who now coaches Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, believes that the Spain international is perfectly suited to life under Diego Simeone's wing in Madrid. ...

GBAM!!! Messi’s record will last 600 years’ Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on former player Lionel Messi after his heroic feat last weekend, insisting the forward’s record will stand for “600 years”. The Barcelona ace’s hat-trick against Sevilla took him to 253 La Liga goals in 289 matches, breaking Telmo Zarra’s record of 251 as he became the new highest goal- scorer in the Spanish League. Guardiola, under whom Messi thrived in the Spanish coach’s four-year tenure at the Camp Nou, was full of praise for his former starlet, and believes his record will stand for years to come. "He is only 27 years old and he has already beaten the record,” said the Bayern boss. “His record will not last for 60 years, but 600 years." Speculation of unrest with the Catalans has fuelled reports of a possible move away from Spain, yet Guardiola said he hopes the new record-holder will finish his career at the club he joined when he was just 13 years old. "I hope that Messi will end his ...

Eintracht Frankfurt 0:4 Bayern Bayern Munich opened up a seven-point advantage at the top of the Bundesliga thanks to a Thomas Muller hat trick at Eintracht Frankfurt. Germany international Muller broke the deadlock in what was becoming a frustrating game for Bayern before adding two more in as many second-half minutes. Xherdan Shaqiri added a fourth late on as Pep Guardiola's men continued their march towards a third straight Bundesliga title. Frankfurt had clearly done their homework and watched how Borussia Monchengladbach had held Bayern to a 0-0 draw recently as they employed similar tactics. They frustrated their opponents by preventing them from creating any chances while being quick on the counter whenever they had the chance to break. It was not until midway through the first half that Bayern finally got a chance to score, and they took it. Franck Ribery exchanged passes with Robert Lewandowski before setting up Muller, whose first shot was blocked on the line, but he followed up and converted wi ...

UEFA Champions League MATCHDAY 3 ANALYSIS. Man City 2-2 Cska Moscow. As Roma 1-7 Bayern Munich. It seems officially City are out of the group already. They have been disappointed in the last two seasons of the UCL they have featured. After cruising four goals to one against Spurs on saturday, it was much expected of them to get all three points from the Russian side . Moscow also has not been impressive in the Russian Premier League. Bayern thrashing of Roma tells you that one cannot veale anything away from this team . Five goals in the first 35 minutes of the game left the Italian side frustrated. Frank Ribery getting a brace from his return from injury. Good one for them and i know Pep Guardiola will be pleased with the performance. Chelsea 6-0 Maribor Fc Schalke 3-2 Sporting Lisbon. It was an easy win for the london side with Loic Remy getting hrs first ever Ucl Goal and clinging an injury thereafter. Was substitued by D. Drogba who also converted a penalty for the English side. Mario Goetze netted a brace as Bayern Munich moved top of the German Bundesliga with a 4-0 win victory over Paderborn as Mainz 05 missed their chance to take top spot after only drawing with Eintracht Frankfurt. Goetze put Bayern in front in the eighth minute, calmly slotting the ball past Paderborn goalkeeper Jose Reina from just inside the area after being set up by Thomas Mueller. Robert Lewandowski made it 2-0 five minutes later with a longe-range effort and almost extended Bayern's lead further shortly afterwards but for a timely block. Mueller was again the provider for Goetze's second goal of the game 12 minutes from time and the Germany winger got on the scoresheet himself with five minutes remaining to complete a comfortable win. The result sees Pep Guardiola's side move on to 11 points, two clear of Mainz, who let a two-goal lead slip against Frankfurt to end up drawing 2-2.

FULL TIME : Bayern Munich 1 - 0 Manchester City The England goalkeeper was finally beaten late on having kept out Pep Guardiola's side for the majority of the 90 minutes as City suffered defeat in their group stage opener. Jerome Boateng scored a dramatic late winner as Bayern Munich kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City. City goalkeeper Joe Hart frustrated the Bundesliga champions for long periods of the Group E opener at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, as Bayern looked set to start the group stages with a draw. Thomas Muller ought to have put the Bavarian giants in front inside a minute when he rounded Hart but could only fire wide when he finally got his shot away. Manuel Pellegrini could only watch on from the stands as he served a touchline ban, with his assistant Ruben Cousillas taking charge on the sidelines, and he must have had his head in his hands as former City defender Boateng's half-volley deflected past Hart at the death. Ribery ruled out of Manchester City clash, but Robben fit Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has been ruled out of their Champions League opener at Manchester City after his knee problem flared up again. The Frenchman made his first appearance of the season, coming of the bench to score during Bayern's 2-0 win over Stuttgart on Saturday, but skipped Sunday's post-match training session and will miss Wednesday's Group E opener against the Premier League champions. "Ribery will not take part in the final training session," Bayern coach Pep Guardiola admitted. "He is at home and cannot play. "The doctor saw him on Monday and said he cannot play." Ribery, 31, missed the first two weeks of the season with a knee injury and could well find himself being rested between matches as he feels his way back to full fitness. Champions League draw in full: Real Madrid face Liverpool, Barcelona versus PSG The reigning champions discovered who they will face in the early stages on Thursday, with Bayern Munich, Man City, Roma and CSKA Moscow the best candidate as the Group of Death. Carlo Ancelotti's men achieved la Decima in May with a final win over Atletico Madrid and they will also face Swiss side Basel and Bulgarian champions Ludogorets in Group B as they try to become to first team in Champions League history to win back-to-back titles. Bayern Munich, coached by former winner Pep Guardiola, will aim for their fourth final in six years but have arguably been handed the Group of Death as they will need to overcome Premier League winners Manchester City, Russian side CSKA Moscow and Serie A runners-up Roma to get out of Group E. Jupp Heynckes Bayern > "Bayern Munich are such an awful side to watch under Pep Guardiola"
WHY GUARDIOLA LEFT BARCELONA .. . . . . . . . . . . Bayern Munich coach, Pep Guardiola, has revealed he left FC Barcelona in 2012 because he was exhausted. The 43-year-old decided to go on a sabbatical after winning 14 trophies – amongst them two Champions League titles – in just four years with the Catalan giants. Guardiola denies leaving Camp Nou due to issues with Sandro Rosell, the Former Barcelona president, but because he had reached his personal ‘limits of exhaustion’. “It isn’t true that I left because (then president Sandro) Rosell didn’t support me in rebuilding the squad,” he is quoted in another excerpt from his book Herr Pep. “I was at my limit of exhaustion and I wasn’t sure at all about what options I could offer the team. I didn’t ask to rebuild the squad, because I was the one who had decided to leave.” On the subject whether he would be keen to return to the Catalan giants Guardiola says ambiguous, “The way the club is organised, there are only two options: eith ...
PEP EXPLAINS BERCELONA EXIT source : ESPN soccer Pep Guardiola reveals that he left Barcelona because he was "at the limit" of his exhaustion in a new book about the now-Bayern Munich coach, AS reports. - Schaaf: A fruitful tour for Bayern - Gurdiola proud of victory over Chavas Herr Pep, written with his full authorisation by journalist Marti Perarnau, reveals that his departure from the Camp Nou had nothing to do with a falling-out with former club president Sandro Rosell. AS reports that journalist Isaac Lluch, the Germany correspondent for Catalan daily Ara, has had a sneak preview of the book, which is due to be published in Catalan and Spanish in September. It was written after Perarnau was authorised to spend 200 days a year with Guardiola, who told him: "Write everything you see and criticise everything you want to in the book, but during the season don't write anything that you see behind closed doors." The coach says: "It isn't true that I left because Rosell didn't support me in rebuilding the ...
Bayern: We'll never fire Guardiola Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has reassured fans that Pep Guardiola will "never be fired" by the Bavarian giants. The five-time European champions have often stuttered in the seasons following a World Cup: Felix Magath was fired in January 2007, while Louis Van Gaal was dismissed in April 2011, as both men struggled with a squad fatigued after an insubstantial summer break. Rummenigge has assured fans that a similar malaise will not befall the club this season and that Guardiola, whom was hired last summer, need not fear for his future. "Bayern Munich will never fire Pep Guardiola," the club chief affirmed toMorgen Post. "I give you that in writing. "He will be our coach until at least June 30, 2016, when his contract ends. "Admittedly, for the players it is not easy to begin again after a short holiday due to the World Cup, but thankfully we have a coach who is very relaxed in dealing with this situation. "This week, he told me, 'I know what I must do and ** ...
Bayern Munich will never push out their coach Pep Guardiola, club chief executive Karl-Heinze Rummenigge said in an interview published on Sunday. Rummenigge shrugged off suggestions that Germany's most successful side could struggle this season after their top players come back from their gruelling but triumphant World Cup campaign. There would be no fallout for Guardiola, he told Welt am Sonntag newspaper. "Bayern will never sack Pep Guardiola. I can put that in writing today," said Rummenigge. "Pep Guardiola. He will be our coach on June 30, 2016. At least until his contract runs out," the chief executive added when asked who would be coach at the end of the 2014-15 season. Guardiola's deal runs until mid-2016. In his first season, Guardiola won the German league and cup double and took Bayern to the Champions League semifinal where they were beaten by eventual winners Real Madrid. The newspaper highlighted how Bayern struggled after the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and the coaches -- Felix Magath and Loui ...

The 30-year-old Bayern Munich defender, who can also play in midfield, played 113 times for Germany. New Real Madrid signing Toni Kroos has voiced his admiration for Pep Guardiola and has stressed that the Bayern Munich coach has helped him become a better player. Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere made an early start to his pre-season preparations after he returned to training three days before most of his team-mates. Wilshere's return comes days after photographs of him with a cigarette in his mouth while on holiday in Las Vegas were published by the Daily Mail - and were said to have earned him a reprimand from manager Arsene Wenger. The 22 year old posted a picture to his Instagram account which showed him ...
Liverpool have been given a hands-off warning from Bayern Munich in their pursuit of World Cup star Xherdan Shaqiri. The Bayern Munich midfielder has been watched by Brendan Rodgers as the Anfield manager looks to add firepower to his side in the wake of Luis Suarez's departure to Barcelona. The 22-year-old, who joined the Bundesliga champions from FC Basel in 2012, scored a hat-trick against Honduras in the World Cup and has been on the radar of many of Europe's top sides. Italian giants Roma had been thought to be close to snapping up the midfieder, who has made 42 appearances and scored 10 times for the Bavarians, from under the nose of Liverpool but Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer has quashed suggestions Shaqiri will leave the Allianz Arena. In an interview with Kicker , the former Germany defender said Pep Guardiola has no intention of selling the the Swiss national because "he is an important player for the club".

[Cruyff: Messi-Neymar-Suarez won't work] He will however be permitted to complete a move said to be worth anything between £55 million and £75 million. He was then collected at the airport by his agent Pere Guardiola, who is brother of Bayern Munich boss - and former Barca coach - Pep Guardiola.

Swiss Star Must Choose Between Liverpool And Bayern Munich by Glen Harrington July 5th, 2014 The future of Xherdan Shaqiri could be resolved in the next few days… SEE ALSO: The Best Liverpool goals. Liverpool could potentially land key transfer target Xherdan Shaqiri in the coming weeks, according to Norwegian football scout and executive Tor-Kristian Karlsen. Shaqiri’s future is likely to be resolved in the near future after the conclusion of Switzerland’s World Cup campaign, which ended with a dramatic 1-0 extra time defeat at the hands of Argentina earlier this week. Karlsen claims that the 22-year-old will be offered the choice between a move to Liverpool and a new contract with current club Bayern Munich. Shaqiri struggled to hold down a first-team position under Bayern boss Pep Guardiola last season, but still scored six goals in 17 league appearances. The winger also impressed at this summer’s World Cup, scoring the first left-footed hat-trick in tournament history against Honduras. ...

Spain's demise in sync with Barcelona's fall from grace The Catalan giants' suffered their worst campaign since 2008 - and their rise and subsequent fall in that period has coincided perfectly with that of the national side. It is hardly a coincidence. Spain's spectacular success between 2008 and 2012 runs concurrently with the heady heights of Pep Guardiola's brilliant Barcelona. So perhaps it should come as little surprise that, as the Catalan club have fallen into decline of late, so too have La Roja. Friday's shocking 5-1 defeat to Netherlands in Salvador was reminiscent of Barca's 4-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season. Nobody had seen it coming - not then and not now. There is no scapegoating of the Barca contingent taking place; many of Spain's stars were at fault. Sergio Ramos was well beaten for pace by Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben and proved to be some distance from the fine form he has shown for Real Madrid in recent months, Iker Casillas was at fault for one and per ...
Arsenal & Chelsea want one of world's top 3 strikers in Mario Mandzukic. Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly chasing one of the top three centre-forwards in the world and will only be able to land him because Pep Guardiola knows nothing about strikers. This is according to former Croatia manager Igor Stimac, who said that he believes Mario Mandzukic has very few rivals in the striker position. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly flown out to Brazil not only as a television pundit, but to secure a deal for one of three centre forwards and the Bayern Munich forward is top of the list. Meanwhile, Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in 28 year old former Wolfsburg striker. Whether it be Emirates Stadium or Stamford Bridge, Stimac believes whichever team gets him will be landing a supreme forward who can make contributions up front and at the back: "Mandzukic is definitely in the top three strikers in the world at the moment. Defensively and offensively he is an amazing player. “It’s n ...
Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic admits he has no future at the club under Pep Guardiola. The Croatia international admits he became convinced his days at Bayern were numbered after the first game of last season. "No matter how hard I tried, in this type of football I cannot give my best," he said of Guardiola's tiki-taka style. "After the first game at Bayern, I knew this. "So now, it is best for everyone if we go our separate ways." Chelsea, Arsenal and Juventus all head the queue of clubs chasing Mandzukic's signature this summer.
GOOD MORNING CHELSEA FAMILY Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claimed on Tuesday that Chelsea had sent an agent to talk to Serie A Club AS Roma about a possible summer transfer. The famous pink Italian newspaper claim that Jose Mourinho's Chelsea have thrown their hat into the ring for much wanted defender Mehdi Benatia. Manchester City were linked with a move for the defender for some weeks and reportedly made a bid for him, having it refused, Gazzetta say the same has happened with Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich who they claim has offered €33m. To make matters more complicated they also say that after having their first bid refused, Manchester City have returned with €38m. Roma, according to the newspaper, still don't want to sell but that's becoming hard to believe, especially given that the player himself has made it clear he's not overly keen on staying. Benatia has rejected a new contract offer from Roma which will push the club's hand a little. It's not known if Chelsea will also bid but as ...

Aurelio De Laurentiis has told Arsenal that they will have to pay Napoli a staggering £56m if they want to secure services of Lorenzo Insigne. Manchester City will receive a £2.5million bonus if AC Milan sell Italy striker Mario Balotelli. Jose Mourinho will reject any opening offer from Real Madrid for Ramires but the European champions are determined to sign the Brazilian. If Manchester United managed to pull off the signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich, he would, at best, offer three or four years of quality service. It’s for that reason the German is only a short- term fix to United’s long-standing midfield problems. Per talkSPORT’s interview with football pundit Graham Hunter (h/t the Mirror), Pep Guardiola is willing to offload Schweinsteiger this summer, with United his likely destination. It’s certainly a move that would make sense given that Louis Van Gaal worked with Schweinsteiger during his spell in charge of the Bavarian giants. For United, it’s a question of weighing up what Schweinsteiger has to offer against how long he can offer it for. The German is still very much a classy player and would add some much-needed quality in midfield, but he is injury prone and has already peaked in the context of his career. Schweinsteiger Is Precisely What United Need in Midfield Unquestionably, Schweinsteiger would dramatically improve United’s m ...
Bayern Munich are ready to offload the German, after manager Pep Guardiola made it clear he no longer values the midfielder.
for Liverpool fans - Liverpool have today agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for German midfielder Emre Can The 20-year-old has represented Germany at every level from U15 to U21. He was born in Frankfurt, but is of Turkish decent. Can netted a superb solo goal against Mexico in the semi-final of the FIFA U17 World Cup. He received the ball with three markers closing in on him, skipped past one and paced forward before escaping two other opponents and evading the goalkeeper. Germany were defeated 3-2, but the dynamic midfielder also set up his side's opener. Touted as the future of German football, Can began his youth career at SV Blau-Gelb Frankfurt before moving to Eintracht Frankfurt. In 2009, Bayern Munich Recognised his gifts and secured his signature. In August 2013, with Pep Guardiola having 10 international midfielders at his disposal, the gifted player signed a four-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen in order to ensure first-team football. "Emre Can is one of the biggest talents in German football, ...

Manchester United have been informed they can land Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger for a knockdown fee. The Daily Mail says United boss Louis Van Gaal has dismissed Cesc Fabregas and Toni Kroos from the club's list of targets for this summer. The Dutchman has, however, been linked with Bayern Munich talisman Schweinsteiger and the word out of Munich is that Pep Guardiola would be willing to listen to offers of £10million for the 29-year-old midfielder. Schweinsteiger, whose name cropped up during David Moyes's tenure at United, is also interested in a new challenge. The old regime had concerns about his fitness and value for money, given that he earns £8m a year but Van Gaal worked with the Germany star at Bayern and knows him better than most.

SCHWEINSTEIGER ON THE CHEAP It seems like the kind of dodgy offer you’d expect from a TV shopping channel, but Bayern Munich is reportedly willing to sell Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United for just $18m. Van Gaal worked with the Germany central midfielder during his time at the club, and with Pep Guardiola reportedly happy with the options he has at his disposal, would be willing to give the 29-year-old a chance to continue his career in England. Meanwhile, ExpressSport are reporting Barcelona’s interest in Red Devils’ playmaker Juan Mata, as they look to wrest the La Liga title back from Atletico Madrid.
Pizarro extends Bayern deal Bayern Munich forward Claudio Pizarro has extended his contract with the domestic double winners by one season to 2015, the Bavarians said on Tuesday. The 35-year-old Peru international, who joined Bayern in 2012 for a second spell after three years at Werder Bremen, scored 10 league goals in 17 matches last season, utilised mostly as a late substitute. Pizarro, the Bundesliga's all-time foreign top scorer with 176 goals in 370 matches, emerged as an invaluable option for coach Pep Guardiola after leading striker Mario Mandzukic fell out of favour towards the end of the season. "Claudio proved again this season how dangerous he is in front of goal and how important he is for the team," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement. "We are happy to be able to continue counting on his abilities." Pizarro played at Bayern from 2001-2007 before returning to Bremen in 2009, for whom he played in 1999-2001, after an unsuccessful two-season spell at Chelsea.
