He served as a fighter pilot in Vietnam, where he flew 144 missions and reached the rank of lieutenant colonel. After returning to the United States, he earned a Ph.D in aerospace engineering and was one of 35 out of 8,878 applications accepted by the astronaut program at NASA. Twenty-eight lean men were fed three meals per day for four weeks. Thirty minutes prior to lunch, each man was required to drink a shake. All the shakes contained the same ingredients, but were blended for varying times to increase the amount of air and, thus, the volume. When the largest volume shakes were consumed, the men ate 12 percent fewer calories than usual at lunch. Drinking lower-volume (denser) shakes did not lower subsequent calorie consumption. I provided much of the factual information to Inquirer reporter Susan Snyder, and am quoted briefly, too. Ultimately, nothing that made the Pennsylvania State University so great in the first place has changed other than the now crippled football program, which will rise again. A tight-knit community, unmatched school spirit, incomparable party scene and academic programs worthy of the ranking for corporate recruiters --- That still ALL exists. And for those who find sick joy in the total crucification of Penn State, I can only hope that you are not someday subjected to watching the world spit on and kick something you love as it is dragged through the mud.

Thus far the Sandusky scandal has been driven by the press, driving each other and sports fans and caring people into a frenzy, using innuendo (and lies), expressing their indignation (despite the fact that the most outspoken press outlet was found to be concealing the facts surrounding yet another child sex abuse scandal), and demanding the strongest possible actions. For its part, Penn State's Board of Directors has rolled over, kept quiet, and let it happen. The amount of disinformation and wrong information that people are believing about all of this is astounding.
