Here's my Captain Obvious post for week. This is always a very emotionally moving 2 days in a row, starting with December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day. I have visited the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, and that is a incredible tear filled experience. Pulling up to the memorial in the boat and having the Naval officer greeting people say "Gentlemen, please remove your hats" still makes my eyes water. If you haven't been there and seen the names on the wall I recommend you do if you have the chance. December 8th marks the shooting deaths of 2 musicians who greatly influenced their various worlds immensely . John Lennon passed on this day in 1980. I was only 9, but was very aware of who he was. My mom had pretty much every album by The Beatles and I'd been listening to them almost exclusively during my child hood. What an amazing talent. 10 years ago on this day Dimebag Darrell was killed. That hit fairly close to home as I had friends who were tight with him, toured with his bands, and had hung out with him rec ...

Yesterday was Pearl Harbor Day. Today, December 8, was the day that we declared war on Japan. Do not forget that we are free today because others fought, died, were wounded, and were captured for it. Freedom isn't free of charge.
"To not let this go to waste, I have a trivia question for you," Daniel Clegern said seriously before the Pearl Harbor Day ceremony at Dwayne Webster Veterans Park on Sunday.
Some things on my mind: It's long, fair warning... Yesterday was Pearl Harbor Day, the day we as Americans remember the bombing of Peal Harbor, a naval base in Hawaii which, at the time was not technically an American state but a territory. I'm usually pretty good about putting up my flag to commemorate the day but I forgot yesterday in the wake of "things" getting in the way. Anyway, I've been thinking about it. My grandfather was the son of the editor of the newspaper in Topeka Kansas and they had a telegraph machine in their home so that when news literally "came across the wire" my great-grandfather could be on top of it for his paper. When the news about the bombing came in, my grandfather and his brother technically knew about it before people in Washington DC as the news was quite literally traveling west to east across the wires. Both of them went out the next day, a Monday like today, and signed up for military duty and subsequently did go and serve their country in that great and terrible war. A ...

It's Pearl Harbor Day and the history channel is playing pawn stars you would think they would be playing some history so people could actually learn something about this day
We think of today as Pearl Harbor Day - but Pearl is not the only place the Japanese attacked on December 7, 1941. Guam, Wake Island, the Philippines (Manila) . . all were American territories at the time, and all were bombed just hours after the Pearl Harbor attack. In addition, the Japanese also attacked British holdings in Hong Kong and Thailand. It was a Very Busy Day for the Imperial Forces of Japan.

Today is Armistice Day. The day set aside to remember those who fought "The War To End All Wars". The WWI Armistice took effect at 11:00AM on November 11th, 1918. All too soon, another great war erupted causing roughly 22 Million to die along with those defenders who put themselves in harm's way to keep the world from existing under a tyrant. Armistice Day is now Veteran's Day. We honor our war dead on Memorial Day, Pearl Harbor Day, D-Day, but on Veteran's Day, we remember and honor ALL who served both in time of war and in keeping the peace. To all of my brothers and sisters who have served, who currently serve, who will yet serve and especially those with whom I had the honor of serving alongside, as long as I breathe, you will never be forgotten. A special shout out to the members of the 1st 111th of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and my shipmates, Loran, Dan, Ranger Ed, Charlie, Bob Lewis, Bobby Curry, Walt Collins, Steve Gray, Mike and Rich Angelini, and all my other brothers and sisters. My first born was born on the Marine Corp birthday. My third on Pearl Harbor Day. My husband has served in both the US Navy and is currently in the LA Air National Guard. My father, stepfather, grandfather, and countless other members have served. My heart and prayers go out to anyone who has stood beside a member of the armed forces, who has lost a member of the armed forces, or to this day still supports them in their endeavors. We should support and remember everyday not just today! I love you Mark Pittman for doing what you should for your country and I'm glad to be celebrating 13 years married to you today!
Super Bowl champion Seahawks to visit Philly on Pearl Harbor Day; Eagles likely sunk.
You know most generations have certain days that are branded in their history. For my Fathers generation it was December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day. For some of us as teenagers it was the it was the Day the Music Died, still for myself it was November 22nd 1963, the day President Kennedy was assonated. I know some of you the day Bobby Kennedy was killed is branded in you mind, but I can't even begin to tell what day that was. Now the new generation has 9/11 branded in their history. A day that we were hit by a surprise attack every bit as memorable as December 7th 1941. For me personally April 5th 1968 the day Martin Luther King was killed, is branded in my brain. Now I know most of you are going to say I am wrong about the date, but you see that was the day I left Viet Nam, which is over the international date line, it was April 5, in Viet Nam and April 4, 1968 in the United States. One more thing of note, I left Viet Nam at 11:00 AM April 5th and landed in Seattle at 10:00 AM April 5, 1968. That was Go ...
Delaware is called "The First State' because it was the first of the original 13 colonies to sign the Declaration of Independence and became the First State on December 7, 1787, which is celebrated as "Delaware Day" and shares that date with Pearl Harbor Day. Had it not been for my ancestor, Caesar Rodney, there may have not been a Declaration of Independence nor an America! Caesar Rodney was laying on his death bed dying of cancer when he recieved the news and mounted his horse and took the 3 day ride to sign the Declaration of Independence. He had been courting a woman who was also known as a "kingsman" who supported the King of England ruling the new land known later as The United States of America. Her father was the local postmaster and was also a kingsman. He was intervening with Caesar Rodney's mail and keeping it hidden in his home. There were many letters being sent from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania summoning Caesar to come and sign the most important document in our history. A servant in the home ...

This is a long story, but quite wonderful--and it resonated with me, as I will explain below in a comment: Helen Denton, 91, keeper of the world's biggest secret, laid to rest on Pearl Harbor Day The woman who typed General Dwight D. Eisenhower's final orders authorizing the June 6, 1944 D-Day Normandy invasion in World War II died Dec. 3 in Fayetteville. Helen Kogel Denton, 91, who kept that secret even from her husband of nearly four decades, was buried in the Jonesboro City Cemetery on Dec. 7, 2013, Pearl Harbor Day. The short obituary said this: "She retired from Delta Air Lines where she was a secretary in the Maintenance Department. She was preceded in death by her husband Noel Denton and her son Jon Denton. She is survived by numerous extended family members and many loving friends. She was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post She also served for many years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross." The Citizen's sister publication, Fayette Woman, in October 2005 featured the stor ...
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE - HB275 VIETNAM Veterans Day IN UTAH Welcome Home Brothers and Sisters: As most of you know our Bill passed the House last week 68-0. Since them 34 Representatives have signed on as co-sponsors with Representative Oda. Our next step is the Utah Senate. And if you are just tuning in HB275, if passed, will designate March 29 as a permanent observance day in Utah - forever it will be our day. This will put it in line with VE Day, VJ Day, Korean War Armistice Day, Pearl Harbor Day and Armed Forces Day, etc. Not a holiday but a day to observe the service of Vietnam Veterans. A day we have earned - coming to us about 50 years late. Next Step - Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., in the Senate (East Building at the State Capitol) in room 215 we will be giving remarks in favor of this Bill to a Senate committee. If it comes out of committee favorably it will go to the Senate Floor for vote - more than likely another day. Then to the Governor for signature. Could sure use the support on Tuesday ...
R.I.P. Ralph Kiner. As a Mets fan, I will always connect his grandfatherly voice with the boys of summer and announcers making goofy flubs. Some of his best work: - "It's Father's Day today, so to all you fathers out there, happy birthday." - "Scott Sanderson was traded from Montreal on Pearl Harbor Day, June 7, 1983." - "All his saves have come during relief appearances." - "The Pirates won eight of their 102 losses against the Mets last year." - "Tony Gwynn was named Player Of The Year for April."
AND why is it at half staff to begin with? Pearl Harbor Day was 36 days ago!
***NBC*** I recommend that you start all over, "dump" all those so called "reporters" you have that run your shows, and you may find better people walking the streets... NBC panel mocks Pearl Harbor survivors January 2, 2014 by Michael Dorstewitz 41 Comments During NBC’s coverage of the New Year’s Eve Times Square celebration, one guest made a tasteless joke suggesting that World War II veterans were too old to chew solid food. On “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly,” which included a panel consisting of actors and comedians, host Daly brought up the recent SpaghettiO’s faux pas where it used its brand name and mascot to pay tribute to Pearl Harbor Day. “It wasn’t good,” Daly said after describing the blunder. “But you were offended for another reason,” he said, turning to guest Jane Lynch. “I’m offended because they were referring to SpaghettiOs as pasta,” she said. That’s when Natasha Leggero came up with her own blunder, far worse than anything SpaghettiOs had done. “I mean ...

Wow, just saw a video where some cops in WI wrote some guys a ticket for displaying a flag on some highway pedestrian overpass. REALLY? I guess it was in celebration of Pearl Harbor Day. Way back when, officials would show some discretion. Now, a new generation seems to be coming up with mindless obedience to letter of the law ... no discretion, no thinking ... exactly what happens when you give lawyers way too much power and influence. It is why school officials punish children for valentines cards, football officials flag a player for giving Thanks after a touchdown, etc etc.
Douglas Dietrich was on "Coast to Coast" Saturday nite - - Pearl Harbor Day. Dietrich discussed his controversial research regarding World War II in the Pacific. And I mean controversial! In Dietrich's estimation, Franklin D. Roosevelt was a War Criminal, who in a calculated manner provoked Japan into war. Before we dismiss Dietrich out of hand, it is worth reviewing his creds. First of all, he is Eurasian, born in Okinawa of a career military father of Eurasian extraction and a mother of Japanese-Chinese ancestry. Dietrich has the edgy demeanor and appearance of a Samurai warrior, and in fact he ultimately followed his father into the military, serving in the Marine Corps in Operation Desert Shield in 1990-1991. He then got accepted into the San Francisco Police Academy, from which he graduated, but could not take up police work because of severe ailments suffered while in the Middle East - - specifically exposure to chemical weapons stores. Dietrich then went into private security, escort ...

As I got ready to leave the Fire Station this morning, the Dispatcher announced over the radio, that flags were to be at half staff till further notice. Puzzled, I checked the calendar, and ask everyone if I had missed something. NO ONE had a clue! Just found out, it was ordered by the president, to honor Mandella. There was no order Saturday, for Pearl Harbor Day, even though it has been standard since 1941. No order when the Group of Seals were shot down. Truth Stranger Than Fiction - - - Yesterday 12/7, Pearl Harbor Day - - - Today 12/8 , Pearl Bailey Day "The 2nd Japanese Attack" - - - On 12/8/71 Singer, Pearl Bailey, was attacked in Manhattan by Yoshi Ito,a Japanese immigrant, who snatched Ms Bailey's purse. He was caught by a policeman who was getting an autograph from the singer at the time. As always: History repeats itself.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt stated "December 7, 1941, a date which shall live in infamy." Pearl Harbor Day. Including civilians, 2,402 American citizens lost there lives during and after the Japanese surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor U.S. Naval Station, Wheeler and Hickam Army Air Field. More than 1,000 Americans were killed in 18 minutes. The remains of more than 900 U.S. Naval and Marine personnel are still contained within the hull of the Battleship Arizona Memorial. As a result of that attack and subsequent declarations of war concerning Japan, Germany and Italy, my father, uncles and millions of American men and women served at home and abroad for "the duration+." Truly they and the citizens of the U.S. were a Great Generation and tremendous symbols of patriotism.
This evening at 7 PM...La Parranda continues part II...and much more.we celebrate the grand finale of 10 years of Salsa Dance with the Salsa Music Appreciation Club in the Southern Tier of mid-central New York State. We also acknowledge Pearl Harbor Day..."a day that will live in infamy!"
To acknowledge Dec 7th. Pearl Harbor Day: Sorry the pictures didn't post A Captain, an Army doctor, wrote this after much reflection. If you choose not to pass it on, fine, but I think you will want to, after you read it. I am a doctor specializing in the Emergency Departments of the only two military Level One-Trauma Centers , both in San Antonio , TX and they care for civilian Emergencies as well as military personnel. San Antonio has the largest military retiree population in the world living here. As a military doctor, I work long hours and the pay is less than glamorous. One tends to become jaded by the long hours, lack of sleep, food, family contact and the endless parade of human suffering passing before you. The arrival of another ambulance does not mean more pay, only more work. Most often, it is a victim from a motor vehicle crash. Often it is a person of dubious character who has been shot or stabbed. With our large military retiree population, it is often a nursing home patient. Even with my e ...

Couldn't resist watching Gary Cooper and Jane Wyatt in 'Task Force' on this Pearl Harbor Day. Many scenes brought back memories of childhood and growing up in the U. S. Navy. I'm proud of our country's servicemen and their sacrifices.
Lets hear a hooty hoo! last day for Medicare Advantage enrollment., Its funny how they changed it to end on Pearl Harbor Day.
Flying Old Glory today in honor of Pearl Harbor Day. God Bless those whom we lost and God Bless America.
Okay since today is Dec 7th... Pearl Harbor Day. I fly different flags alongside the US flag on my truck for different holidays. I have a US Navy jack (red and white stripes with the uncoiled snake) and the Commodore Perry "Dont Give up the Ship" flag. Which one should I fly today?
In honor of Pearl Harbor Day and Mickey Mantle, it's 7 outside.
December 7, 1941, the day that lives in infamy. Pearl Harbor Day. As I watch the history channel this morning I have to think about the relationship between today and that day. It must have been very easy to support that war effort and the men and women who fought, died, survived and supported that victory. Today our soldiers stand ready or fight to prevent such a war from ever happening again but we as a people do not always support them or honor them when they return to us or die to protect our freedom. Today lets remember those who have served and teach our youth that it takes a people not just a military to preserve peace and freedom. Thank you to my uncles Len, Walt, Mike and Fred Lambert, Bruce Criss, George Barton, Doc Phillips, Paul Carlton. My nephew Jason Lambert. Many of my friends, Roger Johnson, Doug Wynn, Glen Hood, Ron Wilkey, Chet Klodnicki. Join me and list those that I have not listed. Tell your children about their ancestors that have served and make them understand that it ta ...
Pearl Harbor Day should remind us how much the world has changed and how much it hasn't.
Today remember all the lives lost pray for them on this Pearl Harbor Day.
Kind of surreal moment...watching B playing baseball while small planes fly over on Pearl Harbor Day. Just kind of replaying that scene in the movie..it may have even been a Saturday morning.
TBH though, how many people actually DID become aware that it was Pearl Harbor Day?
Let's honor our WWII vets by remembering Pearl Harbor Day today. It's so easy to forget what a tragic event that was and that it brought our country together like never before to defend against the atrocities happening for no other reason but evil and power itself. Any WWII vet or widow who comes in today can have any cupcake of their choice on the house. Thank you for your service to our country and the world. Let Freedom Ring!
A day that we should never forget. Many thanks to those WWII veterans who took the war off our shores. From a grateful American on Pearl Harbor Day
Today is Pearl Harbor Day. Remember it by thanking a veteran.

A reminder to all of this very important day in history. Pearl Harbor Day. Thank you to that heroic generation that kept the freedom we all know and love today. May we continue to be vigilant and protect our family, friends and loved ones! Godspeed to those serving in the most dangerous places in the world. You are not forgotten.
Birthdays: Ted Knight 1923-1986, The classic news man from the Mary Tyler Moore show. Today in History: Need I remind anyone of Pearl Harbor Day? Quote of the day: “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” ― Albert Einstein
Pearl Harbor Day-- Seventy Two Years ago our nation suffered a surprise attack that thrust our country into the World Wars. As we join our Pearl Harbor Veteran’s in remembering that day, we can never forget those making the ultimate sacrifice and those who lived on with grit, courage and conviction to vanquish our enemies for what they inflicted on our nation. Those of the Greatest Generation went on to build the American Dream and the most prosperous country in the world. To our Pearl Harbor Veterans, Thank you for your service and sacrifice to our nation. You made life as we know it today possible. Your example still inspires us to this day. We can never do enough for our Veterans…but we can always do more. God Bless you and your families…our troops and the United States of America.
12 degrees under clear skies this morning in Wynnewood. Sad hearts this day over the loss of one of our youngest. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those touched by the loss of Conrad. He will be missed, but certainly not forgotten. Today is Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, 1941. Flags at half staff until 8 A.M. Monday. Also on this day in 1787 Delaware became the first state, in 1975 Indonesia invaded East Timor, in 1873 Willa Cather was born, in 1963 the Singing Nun was with Dominique, and in 1916 Lloyd George became PM of the UK. Today is Earmuff Day, International Civil Aviation Day, National Cotton Candy Day, and Skywarn Recognition Day. Have a good one, and please be careful and safe on the roads.

today was the last day on air on TALK Albany WGDJ - I could not have planned a more perfect day for it to be the last show if I wanted. Was honored to speak about Pearl Harbor Day and the lack of attention our Veterans and History received day after day. Was joined by a good friend Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin to talk about NYS issues and the unconstitutional NY UNSAFE ACT and to finish with a well known Gunny R.Lee R. Lee Ermey and our own well known Gunny Bar Robert G Porter . Many thanks to everyone for listening, participating and for sharing your time with me. I am truly blessed and honored to have spoken with so many great people such as the American Sniper we will always remember Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen, Dan Daniel Bongino, Drew Berquist, Ben Brink, James Melvin Ader and so many more. as I go I only have one word for all of you.BENGHAZI -

We promised never to forget. How many of you stop and take time to remember December 7th - Pearl Harbor Day?
Past due for me again. My condolences to my kid at Carbondale if the weather is as bad as I'm hearing AND something about "zero" heading in there by next week! My "flat rate" P.O. box initiation this morning went well. Frankly, for about 15 lbs of old photos (literally 1000s) that I got into the box for under $13 I am very pleased. By the way, a good sub. for all the excesses of pancakes, is by getting Healthy Life bread, 35 cal/slice, putting them in a fry pan instead of a toaster with a tad of healthy oil (canola, oliver) and then putting the 0-spray butter and sugar free syrup on them. Even 2 or three slices total less calories/carbs than only 1/3 cup pancake batter,( at least 220 cal.)(and one can easily eat more than that!) and you save on all the sat. fat, cholesterol. From the year departure of my fav. jazz/classical pianist/composer, Brubeck, to Pearl Harbor Day now only a day away to the fact that around NOW the EARLIEST sunset is happening and the afternoon sunlight will start slowly to increas ...

Okay, so we know the rumor is already out that the Christmas party has been pushed back to next weekend, Dec. 14th. We were going to post something about this this morning anyways, but we might as well confirm that the rumor is true. We have decided to push back the Christmas party to Dec. 14th due to logistical issues in any owners being able to attend being able to attend. We had a last minute demo offer come up that we couldn't refuse. Jumping over the sunken USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor and landing on the helicopter deck of the USS Missouri on Pearl Harbor Day is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we are proud to have been chosen to mark the day's remembrance. Originally, John Hart II had intended on going with with his wife, Suzanne, as the ground crew and his son, John III, back here for the party. But due to recent medical reasons, she is not permitted to fly. With Gene down in Florida, this leaves no owners left to host the party. We all cherish being able to host the Christmas party every year, ...

Christ broke the generational curse at my baptism on Pearl Harbor Day on Dec 7, 2008
Now you fellas know by now that I have no head for dates. Birthdays; my own included; Christmas; Thanksgiving; Pearl Harbor Day; Labor Day and so on, well, they would go unnoticed by me if someone didn't come along sooner or later to remind me. I'm not bragging or proud of it; it's merely true. If my secretary at the Counseling Department didn't call me a day ahead of my mandatory meetings, I would totally forget about them, undoubtedly miss that meeting and again find myself out of the frying pan and into the fire as they say. However. There is one date that is as clear in my mind as an unstirred summer lake of purest blue. March 16, 2014. Now I know we've had our problems in the past. She says that; I say this. She says, no; I say, yes and so on and so forth. But I love her deeply. She's so adorable with her fierce temper and such. And she really is a beauty, too. That doesn't hurt, either. And March 16, 2014 is the day I, oh, I don't know for sure, drop a letter of apology and demand in the ...
The Patriot Post Political Agendas and Half-Staff Flags: Why Obama Honors the Memory of Some and Not Others "As a practice, I always lower our flags on Memorial Day, Patriot Day (9/11) and Pearl Harbor Day, and in honor of military Patriots, law enforcement officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. But I do not lower our flags to advance political agendas, especially those that are an affront to everything our flag represents." -- read more from today's column by Mark Alexander at anxious recollections, my sympathetic feeling, and my best wishes are irresistibly excited whensoever, in any country, I see an oppressed nation unfurl the banners of freedom." --George Washington (1796)
I absolutely have to share this with you guys!! it's long but please read through its amazing yet sad that somebody had to die back then for this to happen! A friend just sent me this. Thought I'd share it. Here is the story about Irma Livoni: I try to tell this true story about what happened not just on Dec 7th 1941 (Pearl Harbor Day) but what happened to one of the few women who was in AA at that time, and about a letter she received in the mail, on Monday, December 8th, which virtually kicked her out of AA. Note: it's been passed on from person to person so these are not my words obviously this isn't the year 2000 either :) In Dec of 1984, I had been sober for 2-1/2 years, and working with my sponsors Bob and Sybil Corwi n since Jan of 84. Sybil had gotten sober in March of 1941, so at the time she was 43 yrs sober. We were driving home from a meeting and she asked me the date(to her it was just Sunday). I told her it was Dec 8th, and that yesterday (Dec 7th) was the anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day. Sh ...

I just got home from Chopticon High School where the County Commissioners paid tribute to the many accomplishments of the Show Band of Southern Maryland. They are twice state champions, once national champions, and represented Maryland during Pearl Harbor Day in Hawaii, where they took 1st place parade competition in which there were 18 schools. Mr. Burroughs has done a remarkable job. I am, however, very disappointed that the Guard Instructor, Rachel Sparks (who just happens to be my daughter-in-law) was not even recognized, even though she went to all the practices and competitions during a period of ill health. Her remarkable skills brought many awards for the Guard during the season. Rachel always puts 110% in everything she does and she gave the Guard 110% and loved doing it and seeing their growth. I'm proud of you Rach, as well as my grandson, Hunter.
A Day in the Navy December 7, 2012 Pearl Harbor survivors attend the 71st Anniversary Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration ceremony at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. More than 2,000 guests attended the National Park Service and U.S. Navy-hosted joint memorial ceremony at the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument. This year's theme was "Coming of Age - From Innocence to Valor." The Los Angeles-class submarine USS Tucson (SSN 770) follows USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) in a pass-in-review in which Sailors simultaneously render honors to USS Arizona (BB 39) and Pearl Harbor survivors during the Pearl Harbor Day commemoration ceremony in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Naval Station Everett provided funeral honors to local Pearl Harbor survivor Lt. Cmdr. Raoul Lanning. Lanning, who served as a Fire Controlman 2nd Class on USS Tennessee and was later commissioned, passed away earlier this year and was interred at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash. This week in Sylvan: A local Pearl Harbor survivor spoke to 8th graders on Pearl Harbor Day last week at Savage...sharing his father's journals of his lucky escape from the bombings. Good stuff! 2nd graders at Crossroads have moved on from the waltz to the Cha Cha Cha! Tomorrow 5th grade band and violin students get to perform Christmas songs for their peers to ring in the season. Friday more music will be ringing as the entire Standiford campus joins in on a Christmas sing-a-long...a great musical tradition!
On Friday night at the American Legion Post 274 in Lusby, Spiggy and Jovette, two of the world famous Redskins Hogettes, presented a check on behalf of the Hogettes for $4,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project. It was particularly fitting that it was held on December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day. Jim Mayer, Outreach Coordinator, and Guy McMichael, Board of Directors, from the Wounded Warrior Project accepted the donation. The funds were raised from the Pat Hovatter Memorial Golf Tournament held at the Chesapeake Golf Course in October,

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Pearl Harbor Day remembrance. We received almost 600 photos of flags. A great tribute to our soldiers and our loved ones who have served. The truth of the matter is our nation is not hopelessly lost—it's still filled with good, loving, and patriotic people who love God, their families and each other. This was on display yesterday and I am grateful.
Check out these photos. Pearl Harbor Day was my grandfather's bday, I believe he turned 19, Served in Army Air Corps.
Because of a sudden and deliberate attack by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan, December 7th is honored and remembered for a very justified reason. But there is something to celebrate on this date for all Americans. On this date 225 years ago, the people of Delaware ratified the United States Constitution, becoming the first state of our Union. So on Pearl Harbor Day, we remember the sacrifices of members of our Greatest Generation. But we should also honor the dedication of our first generation. Happy 225th Birthday, Delaware!

Enjoyed my day at the Indiana Farm Bureau Annual Meeting at the J W Marriott. They had some excellent break out sessions and the commercial exhibits were very informative. Had dinner at VFW Post 1550 Pearl Harbor Day dinner. We should all have tremendous respect for the sacrifices our soldiers, in fact the whole country, made during WWII to preserve "Freedom". It was indeed an honor to have a meal with these ol' Warriors of the Greatest Generation. The home style dinner was delicious. God Bless America !!
Pearl Harbor Day - Thank you Veterans. “A Date Which Will Live in Infamy”: FDR Asks for a Declaration of War Just before 8 on the morning of December 7, 1941, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The barrage lasted just two hours, but it was devastating: The Japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships, and almost 200 airplanes. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded. The day after the assault, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan; Congress approved his declaration with just one dissenting vote. Three days later, Japanese allies Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States, and again Congress reciprocated. More than two years into the conflict, America had finally joined World War II. Thanks to our Veterans now and forever.
Today is Pearl Harbor Day... On this day on 1941 a lot of US Service members paid the ultimate sacrifice... Thank you... Thank you to all the veterans around the world that give what they do for their countries... The managers and staff at Sky Blue Radio salute you!
Pearl Harbor Day and Hanukkah are about honoring heroes, and about reminding everyone that freedom is not free. The lessons apply to Syria and Iran.
Cuddle up this weekend and relax. Do a little bit to get ready for Christmas and let all of you worries go. I am very sick today and probably won't be back on. Please remember Pearl Harbor Day. If you know someone who lived through that day, I would suggest that you talk to them and get their memories of that day. Write them down so that personal memories of that day will live for many generations to come. I have the memories of my family who have told me the horrors of that day. My only way to relate is to remember 9/11 and the fear that went through mind and the grief that I felt for the US , the families, the heroes and the ones who brought us the news. My mom says that Pearl Harbor was worse. We must remember the past in order to bring peace to the future. Peace, Love and Harmony... ... shirley
I just realized today is Pearl Harbor Day. Do you remember your parents/grandparents/great grandparents telling the story about where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news? I remember my parents said they were playing bridge with another couple when the news came on the radio. You?

Let's not forget today, Dec. 7, is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Blessings to all Troops and Veterans out there. Ahe'hee. On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day there were 5,000 Indians in the military. By the end of the war, 24,521 reservation Indians, exclusive of officers, and another 20,000 off-reservation Indians had served. The combined figure of 44,500 was more than ten percent of the entire male, female and children Native American population during the war years. This represented one-third of all able-bodied Indian men from 18 to 50 years of age. In some tribes, the percentage of men in the military reached as high as 70 percent. Also, several hundred Indian women served in the WACS, WAVES, and Army Nurse Corps. -Excerpt from an article by SCAIR historian Roy Cook, Opata-Oodham, Mazopiye Wishasha.

December 7 - Pearl Harbor Day- Do you have relatives who served in World War II? Please share their names!
Torpedoing Pearl Harbor Day By Mindy Kotler, director, Asia Policy Point - 12/07/12 08:00 AM ET Last year, Congress stopped remembering Pearl Harbor. For nearly 50 years, the U.S. Congress had honored the survivors and fallen of Imperial Japan’s deadly attack through a resolution either asking the President to issue a proclamation designating December 7 as Pearl Harbor Day or issuing their own recognition of when the United States was pushed into World War II. This ended in 2011. America’s Greatest Generation was pushed aside to make a petty swipe at the White House about a surplus bust of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. A House rules change in 2011 did away with commemorative resolutions. As a staffer from the House Speaker John Boehner’s office told me, a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day resolution would be “frivolous.” The House Republican leadership of the 112th Congress had adopted new rules barring consideration of any measure that “expresses appreciation, commends, congratu ...
On this anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day, a day that still lives on in infamy- I ask you to imagine America in that time. The war was unpopular for most, men were drafted into service and many did not want to participate. But in homes in communities around the country, families hung a blue star on a white background with red borders. The star said, "our young man is away, please know that we are worried". As the war progressed and soldiers returned in coffins or not at all windows bore the "dreaded star", the red border remained as did the white background, but the blue star was now covered, almost but not complete by a star of gold. That star signifies the loss of an American military member. That star said, "This family is in mourning, they are in pain and they need your comfort". We are all in mourning, we are all still grieving but together we can provide comfort and carry on. Hang your banner and tell the country you need them.
Even when "at ease" our troops are never safe. Special thanks on Pearl Harbor Day to all the men and woman, who have served or are currently serving, in the U.S. Armed Forces. God Bless All !

As we remember Pearl Harbor Day here is an interesting bit of history of one of Olathe's oldest navy influenced neighborhoods. NAVY HILL near east Cedar St. OLATHE’S NAVY HILL The United States entered World War II after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. As part of the defense effort, the Naval Reserve Air Base, located at the Fairfax Airport in Kansas City, Kansas, needed room to expand. The Navy purchased 640 acres near Olathe to create the Olathe Naval Air Station (ONAS), now the New Century Air Center. ONAS was devoted to the mission of training a reserve of veteran pilots to man the planes and carriers of the Navy’s air might in the vent of national emergency. Thousands of people were assigned here, but housing was scarce. Originally platted in the 1920s and planned for prosperous homeowners, Highland Park saw only two homes completed at the outset. Three prominent Olathe businessmen built homes in Highland Park in the summer of 1941 unaware that Uncle Sam was soon to enter the pic ...
