Home bittersweet home. Got in about 8:30 last night. Patti Adams-Pursley, Rhonda Smith Owens and Cindy Nichols Moore have been on my mind a lot. Each of you have dealt with what I'm going through. Mom qualified for hospice so they brought a lot of stuff to her house. She is bedridden now and has 24 hr care. She is in pain from the fall. She couldn't smoke for 6 days and turned into a monster from the nicotine withdrawals. She says she is "ready to go" and I'm ok with that. I always hated the term used when someone passes: they're in a better place. But I get it now. My dear mother will not have to endure any more pain or suffering. Thanks to everyone for prayers and concerns. Her wonderful aide Mary could use some prayers too. She is an honest Christian woman who is struggling emotionally but has vowed to stay no matter what. So lots of poets reading - amazing the suicide rate among poets is not 100% followed by Patti and the band. She is touring Europe, in some venues with Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

A friendly reminder to those in charge of the inductions at The Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing women in rock music. Stevie Nicks, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Debbie Harry, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Patti Smith, Tina Turner, Linda Ronstadt, and the list goes on and on. However Pat Benatar is really the greatest female rock singer of all-time and for so many amazing reasons. Benatar’s timeless music, that's been so well received by the public for more than 30+ years, comes to many as a shock and a surprise that Pat Benatar hasn’t even been inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall Of Fame. I know people will say what about Janis Joplin, and Grace Slick??? Yeah, yeah,, I know they were before Pat and so what, People should be honored for there incredible achievements, not by who came out first . besides it really wasn't till the arrival of Pat Benatar on the airwaves in the summer of 1979 with the smash hit Heartbreaker, that the role of women in rock music would .. ...

It was a pleasure to speak about Lorca's Granada a writers' retreat and colloquium at Lorcation, yesterday evening. Lorcation, an extraordinary event of Toronto-based writers and translators reading from their own Lorca-inspired work, and both the originals and lovely translations of the writing of Federico Garcia Lorca. It was organized by Maureen Hynes, Brian Dedora, and Sonja Greckol (with novelist Elizabeth Ruth) - three of the writers who attended last year's Retreat! Bravo to them and their dedicated interest and creativity to honour Lorca and the City of Granada! The Clash were in the midst of their 17 night run at Bonds in NYC 1981, so we’ll get something from the Clash to commemorate. Today, after the euphoria of the Valpariso Men's Chorus with Alex McMurray, MC Sweet Tea (Tiana Hux Dews) tore it up at CHAZ Chaz Leary FEST just before Meschiya Lake crushed it with a scorching interpretation of "I'd Rather Go Blind" ~in tribute to the late great Etta James. Lenny Kaye from Patti Smith's band was noticeably impressed and moved! Minutes later, Spencer Bohren and St. Celie's Asylum Chorus with Alexandra Scott, Ashley Shabankareh, Hannah Kreiger-Benson, Amy Trail, Lucas Davenport, and Timothy Robertson brought the house down at Little Gem Saloon. And, it's only Wednesday!
