NHL: Brent Seabrook scored the overtime game-winning goal for the Blackhawks in their 6-5 victory Wednesday night against the Bruins. The Blackhawks prevail in the wildest game of the Stanley Cup Final yet, pulling them even in the series, 2-2. Three of the four tilts have gone overtime, but this one was a totally different beast as offense led the way. These two teams combined for 12 goals in the entire series prior to this game. Chicago got on the board first with Michal Handzus' shorthanded marker, and it then took two two-goal advantages: 3-1 (with goals from Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane) and 4-2 (with a goal from Marcus Kruger). Patrick Sharp netted a goal in the third period to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead as well. Kane also notched an assist. Michal Rozsival picked up two assists and was a game-high plus-three, while Sharp led the way with eight shots on goal. Niklas Hjalmarsson finished a game-low minus-three. We
Image of the Day Close Call The NHL may have dodged a major controversy as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings in 2-1 in overtime of Game 7 to advance to the Western Conference Finals. The Blackhawks who had the best record in the regular season, had trailed in the series 3-1, rallied to force a seventh game with wins in Game 5 and Game 6. After a scoreless first period the Blackhawks got on the board early in the 2nd period on a goal by Patrick Sharp. The Wings even the game with an early 3rd period goal by Henrik Zetterberg. From there it was hearts in throats time, as the two old rivals battled. Late in the third period it appeared as if the Blackhawks had taken the lead. However, Niklas Hjalmarsson's goal with 1:47 left was waived off as Blackhawk's forward Brandon Saad tangled with Kyle Quincey behind the play. In overtime the Blackhawks would not be denied as Brent Seabrook scored the game winner at the 3:35 mark of Overtime.
NHL: Brent Seabrook sniped the game-winning overtime goal to lead the Blackhawks to the Western Conference final with a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings in Game 7 on Wednesday night. This game had a little bit of everything -- good and bad. It seemed as if the Blackhawks were on their way to a Game 7 win in regulation because with 1:47 remaining Niklas Hjalmarsson scored. However, matching roughing minors were called on Kyle Quincey and Brand Saad seconds before by the back official, negating the goal in a very controversial way. Patrick Sharp also potted a marker for the Blackhawks, and he now has seven goals and 11 points in 12 playoff games. Michal Handzus and Marian Hossa each notched assists. The Blackhawks will kick off their series with the Kings on Saturday.
