Noriyuki "Pat" Morita (June 28, 1932 – November 24, 2005) was an American film and television actor who was well known for playing the roles of Matsuo "Arnold" Takahashi on Happy Days and Kesuke Miyagi in the The Karate Kid movie series, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1984. Pat was the lead actor in the television program Mr. T and Tina, regarded as the first American sitcom centered on a person of Asian descent, and Ohara, a police-themed drama. Both television shows were aired on ABC, but they were both short-lived. Pat Morita was born in Isleton, California. He developed spinal tuberculosis at the age of two and spent the bulk of the next nine years in Northern Californian hospitals, including the Shriners Hospital in San Francisco. For long periods he was wrapped in a full-body cast and was told he would never walk. It was during his time at a sanitarium near Sacramento that he was given his stage name, "Pat". Released from the hospital at a ...

Watched "Thoroughly Modern Millie," a children's movie, from 1967 over the weekend starring Carol Channing, Mary Tyler Moore, and Julie Andrews. Well, I guess some things have changed over the years... Cantonese laundry men (Jack Soo, Pat Morita, and that "steal the pebble from my hand, Grasshopper" guy) in league with a chopstick-coiffed white Dragon Lady (Beatrice Lilllie, in her finest final post-vaudeville performance) in white slavery: drugging and kidnapping single, orphan, young women for export to.? Best line, by Julie Andrews at the very end to her beau: "I don't want to be your equal, I just want to be a woman!" Yep, I guess things have changed a bit since '67...
Stumbled on this and am fascinated and horrified: Walker played Howard Cunningham's cousin and appeared on Happy Days -- set in the 50s. Yet this show takes place in 1977. Pat Morita appears as Arnold -- again: 1977. Eddie Mekka was STILL on Laverne & Shirley but playing a different role on this show. Scott Baio and Lynda Goodfriend are in the cast before joining Happy Days. The theme is the same singer who did L&S theme. Caren Kaye was always hot. Nice cheesy wink at the end. Jeff DiVeronica and Chuck Creme and Dave Blask: you should watch this.

Get Paid to Act No Matter Where You Live This text is from a member of the National Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild, currently based in Hawaii and consulting with two television programs located there, Scott Rogers. Title implies expletive (deleted). This book is a practical guide to working as an actor without moving to Hollywood. It was written for the tens of thousands of actors living all over country (and world!) who dream of being paid as a professional actor and fall into two basic categories: 1. Actors who are building experience and reel before making the big move to L.A. Both experience and reel are easier to get in smaller markets, as you will see in the book. 2. Actors who have decided to live where they are because they enjoy their quality of life or in order to maintain their commitments to family or their jobs. These actors are content to pick up acting jobs when they come along. This book is not meant to be an attack on Hollywood (in spite of the title!) But there is a miscon ...

Which of these anniversaries make you feel older: 1. The film A Christmas Story turning 30 this year. 2. The film Napoleon Dynamite turning 10 next year. Played football this afternoon and now I feel like the oldest man. Not Richard Attenborough-old, though, but Pat Morita-old. When he was alive, obviously, though that might change later.
THOUGHTS I HAD WHILE PEELING POTATOES: When my sons were small, we used things we saw on TV to teach lessons. Now, I know TV is the evil giant, blah, blah, blah but we shared a lesson on honor and pride from the Karate Kid series of movies that I could not have taught if I had said "Now let's sit down and discuss the ancient custom of honor among 17th-18th century Samurai and how it influences the Asian culture to this day". Thanks, Ralph MacChio and Pat Morita. Granted the TV today is not the time of innocence we find in *** Van *** Bonanza, Mayberry type shows but there are still points to be discussed, lessons to be learned. Who has not wanted to Gibbs-slap someone, (probably someone like Sheldon Cooper), work side-by-side with an undercover boss and get some good stuff for it because of your excellence as an employee or travel with Gordon Ramsey to a diner and tell those people you had a TERRIBLE DINING EXPERIENCE WITH THEM? My point? Yes, there is one. TV may seem like it is pulling us down ...

Happy Birthday to: Melvin James Kaminsky, but most people know him as Mel Brooks, the sheer comedic genius behind so many television programs and motion pictures. Here are just a few titles: "Your Show Of Shows", "Get Smart", "Blazing Saddles", "The Producers", "History Of The World Part One", "Young Frankenstein", and so many more. One of my favorites is the ever-changing, always hilarious colloboration with fellow genius Carl Reiner as "The 2,000-Year Old Man". Gilda Susan Radner, who left us way too soon, but whose legacy will live on in features like "Haunted Honeymoon" (with then-husband Gene Wilder) and "The Woman In Red", and especially the plethora of fabulous characters on "Saturday Night Live" (with previous husband, house band guitarist G.E. Smith). Thank you for all the laughs, Gilda, you were awesome! Now that Ralph MacChio is Pat Morita's age in the first Karate Kid, it would be great to see a movie about Daniel Larusso teaching an Asian Kid Martial Arts using the skills he learned from Mr. Miyagi. Even if it was only direct to DVD I'd pick it up. With Bill & Ted 3, Ghost Busters 3 and a new Goonies constantly being rumored, why not?
makes me want to angry Footloose dance“Ralph MacChio is now same age that Pat Morita was in 1st Karate Kid
The Karate Kid on HBO..Ralph MacChio and Elizabeth Sue..and Pat Morita what a classic movie.. of my childhood..
I forgot I needed to clarify, but yes: original Karate Kid w Ralph MacChio & Pat Morita :) Somehow I never saw it before!

This week on Downton Poorhouse: Upon learning that Lord Grantham has agreed to participate in a boxing match to settle the debts of the manor, a concerned Shrimpie sends his martial arts coach, Mr. Miyagi to Downton. Pat Morita guest stars.
Has our generation become way too suspicious about the intentions of adults toward children in movies? Watching a horror movie called Burnt Offerings where an elderly Burgess Meredith is watching a young lad out a window. First thought above all others was 'don't go near him kid...probably a peadophile'. I just know I'll feel guilty about my accusation later when he saves the family. If I were watching The Shining or Karate Kid for the first time nowadays, I'd probably point the same finger at Scatman Crothers and Pat Morita...
Can't sleep, so I'm up watching my favorite WWII war movie. I know for most guys my age, it's Saving Private Ryan, and I even know a few fellas that put Enemy at the Gates at the top of their list (that one is actually second on my list). No, for me it's the 1976 classic Midway, staring Henry Fonda and Charlton Heston. Not only was it a pretty accurate tactical recounting of one of the War's most pivotal battles at sea, but had a cast with as many powerful stars of the time as Private Ryan. Along with Heston and Fonda, we had Hal Holbrook, James Coburn, Robert Mitchum, Cliff Robertson, Pat Morita, Robert Wagner, Toshiro Mifune, Robert Ito, and Dabney Coleman just to name a few.
I hope the Senators ask Leon Panetta why he sold Al's Diner to Pat Morita.
Elizabeth Shue is fit in an 80's way but Ralph MacChio looks 9. Doesn't help if you are 16 & called Ralph! The late Pat Morita makes it.
I didn't know Pat morita died in 2005..this isn't something you're supposed to learn from spongebob

Sometimes I think about the genetics of 3 Ninjas and how those white kids got Pat Morita as a granddad when their mom wasn't even a hapa

One day I'll write a book about all the lessons I've learned from Pat Morita.
