Park Geun

Park Geunhye (born 2 February 1952) is a South Korean politician. She was the chairwoman of the conservative Grand National Party (GNP) between 2004 and 2006 and between 2011 and 2012 (the GNP changed its name to Saenuri Party in February 2012).

But we don't condem North Korea's human rights violations. ‘WICKED BLACK MONKEY’: White House Mad After North Korea Slams Obama With Racial Slur May 10, 2014 / Clark Kent / 7 comments The U.S. has condemned North Korea’s state media after it described President Barack Obama as a ‘wicked black monkey’. A spokeswoman in Washington DC said the racist rhetoric, made two days after the U.S leader paid a state visit to South Korea, was ‘ugly and disrespectful’. Korea Central News Agency, the mouthpiece of the government in Pyongyang, made the attack in one of two pieces aimed at Mr Obama and South Korean President Park Geun-hye. Both pieces were only in Korean and were not translated into English by the news agency. Kang Hyuk, a worker at the Chollima Ironworks Factory, in a translation by the NK News website, said: ‘How Obama looks makes me disgusted.
A month after the Sewol ferry sank, leaving 284 people dead and 20 missing, the incident set off a bout of national soul searching in South Korea over what went wrong. Much of the blame has fallen on the ferry's crew, who scrambled to safety while the passengers were told repeatedly to stay put. Four of them have been charged with murder, prosecutors told CNN Thursday. The company's CEO has also been charged with "causing death by negligence, as well as causing the capsizing of the ship in the line of duty." Beyond the ferry's owners and crew, the sinking has spurred a debate about governmental oversight and what preventive measures could've been taken. The South Korean President, Park Geun-hye, said in a speech on April 21: "This accident is highlighting many problems. First, the ship's introduction (how it came into the country), inspections, operational permits must be examined." The reckoning over the accident has been a bitter one. Here is a look at some of the suspected factors behind the tragedy:
North Korea's Fourth Nuclear Test and the Future of Six Party Talks At her joint press conference with President Barack Obama last month in Seoul, South Korean President Park Geun-hye stated against the backdrop of apparent preparations by North Korea to conduct a fourth nuclear test that such a test could trigger a nuclear arms race and would spell the end of efforts to resume Six Party Talks. South Korean foreign minister Yun Byung-se subsequently said that a fourth North Korean nuclear test would be a “gamechanger.” North Korea appears to have delayed plans for a test that many had expected might be timed to coincide with President Obama’s visit to Asia, but all indications are that North Korea is poised to go ahead with a fourth test at any time. Park’s negative assessment of prospects for renewed Six Party Talks surely must have raised the eyebrows of Ambassador Wu Dawei and his colleagues in the Chinese foreign ministry who have shuttled back and forth between Pyongyang and Washington for mo ...
blast Park for failed Sewol rescue operation photo1: Korean-Americans hold a rally to protest against the South Korean government over the Sewol ferry disaster in front of CNN headquarters in Atlanta on Sunday. (Yonhap) A group of Korean-Americans on Sunday placed a full-page advertisement in The New York Times, publicly condemning the Park Geun-hye government over the ferry disaster and claiming that the media was being controlled to conceal the truth behind the failed rescue operation. In the ad, titled “Bring the Truth to Light,” they said that “not one was rescued” because of South Korean government’s “incompetence and negligence” and its inadequate emergency protocol and improper communication between agencies. “The bungled rescue efforts demonstrated a lack of leadership, incompetence, and negligence of the Park administration,” it said. Dissed by a Jong. The newest offensive weapons from North Korea are insults, rants and sexist remarks aimed at President Obama and South Korean leader Park Geun-hye. I am no fan of Obama, but he is our President and if anyone is going to insult him it should be us and not some overweight, full-of-himself, wannabe leader like Kim Jong Un. North Korea is on the verge of imploding and this upstart thinks that sending inflammatory rhetoric missiles, while building nuclear ones, will solve his nation's problems. The nation has a starving populace and instead of compromising on its nuclear program for the sake of having sanctions lifted, it would rather participate in a war of words which makes the entire nation look more pathetic than it actually is. As long as Jong Un does not resort to the double dog dare tactic, I think our President should just adopt the sticks and stones manta in this case. Although North Korea is not going away, Obama will be gone in about a year and a half and this strategy should ...

"It was like an act of murder." South Korean President Park Geun-hye on the conduct of the crew in the ferry disaster where the death toll now stands at 64.
"Akin to murder" is how Park Geun-hye, South Korea's president, described on April21st the captain's decision to desert both his sinking ferry and the 476 passengers onboard. Five days after the Sewol, a South Korean ferry, capsized on its way to Jeju island, over 60 passengers are confirmed dead and more than 200 are still missing

Korean President Park Geun-hye came out with a remarkable statement today in regard to the Sewol *** ferry disaster. Park Geun-hye is sort of the Margaret Thatcher of Korea. She said straight-out that she considered the actions of the crew to be "akin to murder," and that the full force of criminal and civil law would be imposed on all responsible parties. She also blasted the governmental organization responsible for the rescue efforts and their near total failure to conduct the search and rescue operation. They have also put travel restrictions on about 40 people associated with the ferry company operating the ship. Korean politics and criminal justice administration have always been somewhat Draconian, but I don't think I have ever heard a head of state be as forthright on an issue. So far, 87 bodies have been recovered...and, after six days, the remaining 215 missing are very likely dead as well. In addition to the tragedy itself, this heightens government distrust...and, in this case, rightly so.

At times, Shinzo Abe and Park Geun-hye bring to mind a couple whose marriage has hit the rocks. The leaders of Japan and South Korea appeared unwilling to reconcile their differences, preferring to withdraw into an uncomfortable silence that has lasted for more than a year. The schism led many observers to wonder when, or if, either party would ever swallow its pride. In the end, it took an intervention by a mutual friend, Barack Obama, to break the deadlock. On Tuesday, Mr. Abe and Ms. Park's 15-month estrangement ended when they met, along with the US president, on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit in The Hague. The trilateral summit was the first face-to-face official talks between Japanese and South Korean leaders for almost two years. The row over territory and history between two conservative, hereditary politicians with a shared nemesis in the form of a nuclear-armed North Korea has caused growing anxiety in the United States, just as Washington attempts to re-pivot its defense policy towa ...

South Korea Warns That Kim Jong-Un’s Purging Of Uncle Points To A ‘Reign Of Terror’. South Korea and China raised concerns on Tuesday over the stability of the North Korean regime after Kim Jong-Un purged his uncle in public. South Korean President Park Geun-hye said that the public removal of Jang Song-thaek, Kim’s uncle and second-in-command, was part of a “reign of terror” in North Korea that could aggravate tensions on the Korean Peninsula. China’s foreign ministry stressed on its hope that Pyongyang “can maintain national stability”, while a state-run media called for Kim to be invited on a diplomatic trip to China as soon as possible. This move is believed to benefit North Korea’s long-term stability and bilateral friendly ties.
US Vice-President Joe Biden has urged Japan and South Korea to "improve their relations and co-operation". Mr Biden was in Seoul on the third leg of an Asian tour dominated by tensions over China's newly-declared air defence zone. China's zone covers disputed islands controlled by Japan and an area claimed by Seoul. Mr Biden said on Thursday China's move had "caused significant apprehension in the region." Mr Biden discussed the zone with South Korean leader Park Geun-hye. The issue of North Korea and ways to restart long-stalled nuclear disarmament talks were also high on the agenda. As the meeting with Ms Park began, Mr Biden emphasised the US commitment to a strategic shift to the region. ---
Walking a tightrope, India has kept a studied silence over China's announcement of an Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea while stepping up engagement with regional countries that don't see Beijing's rise as benign. Though the possibility of long-term strategic tensions are brewing with the US already sending two B-52 bombers to fly through ADIZ without notifying China, New Delhi isn't keen to take a position on the issue. Senior officials say New Delhi doesn't have to "join the issue" on the ADIZ or "make its position known" even as it is prepares to host the South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in January next year. Experts like former foreign secretary Lalit Mansingh approve. "India has its own set of problem with China. It's better not to take positions on other countries' problem with China", he told HT. News Updates: Shinzo Abe’s Diplomatic Mission: Apparently, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe calculated that sharing a few words with Chinese President Xi Jinping was worth the risk of a potential brush off. This set the stage for Abe’s diplomatic gambit at the G-20 Summit meetings in St. Petersburg earlier this month. While leaders milled about in the moments before the kickoff, Abe approached Xi and extended his hand in an attempt to begin a process of chipping away at the diplomatic deep-freeze in Sino-Japanese relations since last September’s purchase of three of the disputed Senkaku-Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea. While the handshake was more than mere window dressing, the gesture does not replace the urgent need for Abe and Xi to meet formally. Xi, much like Park Geun-hye in South Korea, waited out the August 15 anniversary of Japan’s World War II surrender (in order to avoid being embarrassed by a visit by Abe or senior cabinet ministers to Yasukuni Shrine). History; US-Korean relations; late 19th century battle was a bad start for the Korean - US relationship. which improved since TWE Remembers: The Korean Expedition of 1871 and the Battle of Ganghwa (Shinmiyangyo) Sometimes good relationships get off to a bad start. The United States and South Korea are a case in point. Today, Seoul is a valued American ally. Just last month, South Korean President Park Geun-hye became the sixth Korean president to address a joint session of Congress. President Obama said that President Park’s decision to make the United States her first overseas visit as president “reflects the deep friendship between our peoples and the great alliance between our nations.” But U.S.-Korean relations started with conflict rather than cooperation when on June 10, 1871, the U.S. Navy expedition sent to open relations with Korea instead waged the Battle of Ganghwa (or Shinmiyangyo). The backdrop for the hostilities was the American desire to establish trade relations with Korea. Like its ...
I have a problem with those women who believe nothing good can come out from them. To them they are okay to subject themselves under men. But have you thought of the two Genders playing the same roles? Assuredly, the world will be more better if our women also rise for power and take the lead roles in the 21st century. Wake up women! to the Bank of Korea, despite months of tension on the Korean Peninsula,South Korea’s economy recorded a small but significant quarter-on-quarter (QonQ)GDP rise of 0.9% for the first 3 months of the year. The reports made it clear that this is the highest quarterly growth in two years. To new President Park Geun-hye, this news has come as a elief. During his first two months in the office was not easy in fact has been difficult due to South Korea’s troublesome northern neighbor off-putting from the economic hold back causingproblems the country. The country’s its reliance on exports is one the South Korea’s main economic weaknesses. Regardless of the actuality that exports raise a little in the initial three months of 2013 exports are composed of about a third of the country’s GDP so ongoing issues in the EU, the U.S., and China persist to discourage future forecasts. Seoul searches for path to welfare state By Simon Mundy in Hong Kong Park Geun-hye, the country’s first female leader, says South Korean model at turning point After its phenomenal ascent from agrarian poverty to advanced industrial power, South Korea appears to the rest of the world like a straightforward success story. But within the country, the narrative is much more complex – as the new president is only too aware. Park Geun-hye, who took office this week as South Korea’s first female leader, told a crowd outside the parliament building that she would open a “new era of hope”, with more support for those who have seen least benefit from the country’s economic transformation. From childcare to old-age pensions, Ms Park wants to ramp up social spending by $125bn over the next five years as she responds to growing complaints that the proceeds of growth have been skewed towards the rich and the chaebol conglomerates that dominate the economy. Ms Park is presenting this as a turning point afte ...

Moscow :NorthKorean leader KimJong-un has issued a secret order to put the country under martial law in preparation for a third nuclear test in its history, a South Korean newspaper reported. The paper also speculated that the new nuclear test could be held either Feb 16, the birthday of former leader Kim Jong-il, or Feb 25, the inauguration day of South Korean President-elect Park Geun-hye. [Comment] We oppose 'special' pardons It is right that president’s power to grant special amnesty is constitutional. However president swore that he will promote people’s freedom and welfare through the oath of office. If he keeps a longtime friend, political allies and dozens of others convicted of corruption and other crimes using this power, it should be criticized as intelligent corruption, that abuses constitutional power. Pardons for convicted of corruption should be tolerated no more. Moreover, this kind of present giving for the corruptive and fraudulent colleagues will be pointed with scorn as dogged style act of state. This violation of social justice in the name of power will be recorded will be recorded as shameless in history over and over. We wish president-elect Park Geun-hye’s initiative to break this vicious circle that allows corrupt politicians to come back as a wolf in lamb’s skin of amnesty.   SEOUL (Reuters) - The daughter of a former military ruler won South Korea's presidential election on Wednesday and will become the country's first female leader, saying she would work to heal a divided society. The 60-year old conservative, Park Geun-hye, will return to the presidential palace in Seoul where she served as her father's first lady in the 1970s, after her mother was assassinated by a North Korean-backed gunman. With more than 88 percent of the votes counted, Park led with 51.6 percent to 48 percent for her left-wing challenger, human rights lawyer Moon Jae-in, giving her an unassailable lead that forced Moon to concede. Her raucous, jubilant supporters braved sub-zero temperatures to chant her name and wave South Korean flags outside her house. When she reached her party headquarters, Park was greeted with shouts of "president". An elated Park reached into the crowd to grasp hands of supporters wearing red scarves, her party's color. "This is a victory brought by the people's hop ...
Education Ministry acts to fulfill Park’s promises Jan 19,2013 Enabling free education for all high school students and requiring less testing of middle school students while providing a more interactive curriculum were all emphasized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Tuesday as part of efforts to fulfill President-elect Park Geun-hye’s campaign pledges. The Education Ministry also proposed to push back the National English Ability Test (NEAT), originally slated to replace the current English-language section of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) in 2015, by at least three years to 2018. The state-administered NEAT is intended to lessen dependence on U.S.-based English proficiency tests such as Toefl and Toeic, which factor into college admission and employment. Officials state NEAT, designed by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Eval!uation, will be cheaper than such tests and will be an effort to improve the nation’s English-speaking proficiency. The CSAT has been cr ...
The Economist 中文版網址 Plenty on her plate South Korea's new president By The Economist From The Economist Published: January 18, 2013 Park Geun-hye prepares to address some of her father's legacy. Jan 5th 2013 | SEOUL |From the print edition PARK GEUN-HYE'S campaign advertising described her as a "prepared female president". Having narrowly defeated the Democratic United Party (DUP) candidate, Moon Jae-in, on December 19th, two-thirds of her slogan will be realised with her inauguration on February 25th. The "prepared" part, however, is less clear. South Korean Presidents-elect appoint transition teams to help smooth their way into office and many of their members then take up posts in the new government. With her appointments, Ms Park seems to be trying to bridge the political divide. Japan, South Korea Move to Ease Tensions by Steve Herman January 04, 2013 South Korea's president-elect on Friday met with a special envoy sent by Japan's prime minister. The meeting is seen as an initial move by the incoming leaders in both countries to try to ease the strained bilateral relationship. There was little expectation the visit by Japanese special envoy Fukushiro Nukaga would lead to any immediate breakthrough. But the timing itself of the meeting with South Korean President-elect Park Geun-hye is considered significant. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took office on December 26th while Ms. Park's inauguration is set for February 25. The Japanese diplomat, who is a former finance minister, presented Ms. Park with a letter from Mr. Abe. Park called Nukaga's visit timely, considering the transition of leadership since last month in both Tokyo and in Seoul. The president elect says she hopes the two countries 'can make a mutual effort to build trust based on the people's sentiment' and strengthen two- ...
