Ligue 1: Marseille extend lead, Lyon hit five Marseille moved three points clear at the top of Ligue 1 thanks to a 2-1 win against out-of- sorts Lille at the Stade Velodrome. With title-rivals Paris St Germain dropping points at home to Montpellier on Saturday, Marcelo Bielsa's side needed no second invitation to take full advantage as Nolan Roux's first-half own goal set them on their way. Lille threatened to spoil the hosts' afternoon when Idrissa Gueye levelled have way through the second-half but any hopes of a point were quashed when the impressive Michy Batshuayi restored Marseille's lead eight minutes later. Defeat for Lille continued a depressing run of form which has seen them claim just one win in 16 all competitions. Lyon moved up to second, above PSG, with a 5-0 triumph over 10-man Bordeaux. Alexandre Lacazette continued his incredible form to give Lyon the lead in the first half and Corentin Tolisso doubled their advantage after the interval. Chelsea return to Premier League duties this weekend, against struggling Hull. It will be their first domestic match since their first defeat of the season, against Newcastle last weekend. And Cahill says they go into the Tigers match in good heart after Wednesday night’s 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon. "We're a good team," Cahill said. "We're certainly playing well. "That unbeaten run that lasted so long, where we are in the league this season and how we're playing - I'm sure people will have taken a lot of notice of that. "We're dangerous. I'm sure teams won't want to come up against us. But there are loads of dangerous teams going into the next round." Chelsea are bidding for a second Champions League title in four years in Berlin in June after their 2012 triumph in Munich. The Blues, who were beaten by eventual runners-up Atletico Madrid last term, could be drawn on Monday against Juventus, Basle, Bayer Leverkusen, Paris St Germain or Shakhtar Donestsk in the first knockout round. 14. Never breaking a contract… No manager can have turned down a greater range of job offers. England, France, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris St Germain have all come calling and, when Wenger does release his memoirs, it would be no great surprise to also find Chelsea and Manchester City on that list. Such commitment is admirable but, in their later years together, could he and Arsenal have achieved more success apart?

Liverpool returns to UCL after five years 2014-09-16 15:22 PARIS - Liverpool's return to Champions League action for the first time in five years and Real Madrid's shaky start to the season dominate the start of the new battle for the elite European title on Tuesday. Liverpool take on surprise Bulgarian team Ludogorets Razgrad, while defending champions Real clash with Switzerland's Basel in the key matches of the first day. German champions Bayern Munich play English counterparts Manchester City on Wednesday when Barcelona, Chelsea and Paris St Germain also set off on the gruelling campaign. Only captain Steven Gerrard remains from the 18-man squad which featured in Liverpool's last Champions League match, a 2-1 loss at home to Fiorentina in December 2009. "Jose Enrique issues 'come and get me' plea to Paris St Germain"
Paris St Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has claimed new Manchester United signing Angel Di Maria wanted to move to the Parc des Princes, but the Ligue 1 champions could not agree a fee with Real Madrid. The Argentinian winger sealed a British record £59.7million transfer to United last week, but Al-Khelaifi said PSG had in fact been his preferred destination. “For two or three weeks I discussed this issue with my friend Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid,” Al- Khelaifi said in an interview with Le Parisien. “We met twice, we made an offer, but we did not agree on the price. For me it was too expensive. It has nothing to do with Financial Fair Play. The player wanted to come to Paris, but this was not possible.” The French side have invested hugely in players over the past couple of years, with the arrival of David Luiz from Chelsea this summer’s marquee signing. Al-Khelaifi claimed Financial Fair Play (FFP) was not a fair rule and said his club would meet with UEFA to urge the ...
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will 'redouble' his efforts to sign Paris St Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot. (Sunday Star)
Already, Van Gaal's Manchester United has a very different feel to it Arturo Vidal and Angel Di Maria may be playing hard-to-get, but that will provide some of last season's much-maligned defenders and midfielders a stage to show what they can do. Arturo Vidal is looking ever likelier to stay at Juventus. Angel Di Maria is odds-on to elect for Paris St Germain over the Premier League. The likes of Arjen Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger are perfectly happy where they are at Bayern Munich, thank you very much. And yet, despite Manchester United finding suitable midfield targets hard to attract this summer, in Louis Van Gaal they have found a manager supremely confident in making up for any shortfalls within his squad - an abundance of evidence for which has already been on display in the few short weeks he has been at the Red Devils helm. Van Gaal is, first and foremost, a coach. So while the prospect of the likes of Tom Cleverley filling a midfield role this season might fill some supporters with dread, al ...
True??? Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria WANTS to join Manchester United. The Daily Star Sunday says Di Maria has rushed an SOS half way across the world to Manchester United's USA camp pleading: Get me out of here. United know that Di Maria is up for grabs Real's £45m asking price and will get down to business this week to act quickly once new boss Louis Van Gaal gives the go ahead. Paris St Germain are also on full alert but they have dragged their heels much to the early frustration of Di Maria, which is another reason he wants United to come and get him. The French farce has infuriated Di Maria with the money-no-object club trying to broker a loan deal to get round Financial Fair Play demands after splashing £50 million on Chelsea’s David Luiz. United won’t quibble over Real’s fee and Van Gaal has enough funds at his disposal to negotiate a straight cash deal.

A youthful Singapore National Team (average age 22.3) lost 0-6 to a very strong France U21 team boasting players from top European clubs like Lyon, Paris St. Germain, Marseille and Athletic Bilbao. Here are some thoughts from National Team Head Coach Bernd Stange: "It was great for us to play against one of the top European U21 teams. The France U21 team was filled with players from top clubs in Europe like Chelsea, Athletic Bilbao and Paris St Germain. It was a great experience, not only for our players but also for our team officials as well. The game against France showed us the level we will need to aim for. France showed us fast passing, combination football and dominating the game with unbelievable physical power. For the first 20 minutes we matched them but they stepped up with more power and speed and showed us our limits. Such a game gives us more than friendlies in our region because France has set the standards for many international teams. I would be pleased to play more of these high level fo ...

David Luiz Confirms Chelsea Exit in an Emotional Message [Daily Mail]. David Luiz has confirmed his Chelsea exit in an emotional message, as he prepares to join Paris St Germain in a £48 million deal. His statement read: “Thanks Chelsea for the three and half years of great partnership. I’ve made good friends, won many titles and those memories will last with me forever. I’d like to thank my teammates, all staff and supporters (my geezers). I’m leaving with great sadness but at the same time excited for the new challenge that lies ahead.” Luiz will be moving across the Channel in a £40 million deal that could potentially rise to up to £50 million depending upon performances. These include bonuses for winning the league, Champions League, and so on. Even without those bonuses, Luiz becomes the world’s most expensive defender. He goes past PSG’s own Thiago Silva, who cost the club £36 million in 2012. Luiz is yet to pass the medical and agree personal terms, but these are expected to be a ...

Chelsea have agreed to sell David Luiz to Paris St Germain for a fee which could approach £40million, and may make the shaggy-haired Brazilian the most expensive defender in the world. The two clubs are currently in negotiations over the precise fee but the London club are satisfied the offer from PSG will be too valuable to turn down, and have agreed in principle to the sale, which both sides would like to conclude this weekend. P$G after Chelsea "Wonder man": Paris St Germain are looking at bringing Eden Hazard back to his native language country where it all began for the trickster. Hazard 22 has been Chelsea's only really consistent form of goals this season and has excelled in the LAM role. With Lavezzi pushing up to ST and forming a tidy partnership with Ibra it means there is a vacant space for Hazard to slot in on the left hand side. So far this deal seems great for PSG but not really great for Chelsea. Would they really want to loose their best player? But surely PSG have enough money to offer them you may say. Well as Tottenham proved this year selling your best player for a huge sum of money doesn't always turn out well. But PSG have a master plan! As you may have noticed I didn't include how much PSG were willing to pay for the Belgian master class. As I said earlier Lavezzi has taken the ST spot for the Paris club, leaving record signing Edison Cavani out of the side for most of the term. He hasn't really fitted in th ...

SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: Manchester City will risk possible expulsion from next season’s Champions League if they fight the sanctions Uefa impose on them for being in breach of Financial Fair Play. City, who can take a giant stride towards the Premier League title by beating Aston Villa tonight at 10:45pm, learned yesterday that Paris Saint-Germain have been hit by far harsher sanctions than had been expected for their own breach. Zlatan Ibrahimovic will make his comeback from injury in tonight’s 11:00pm Ligue 1 home game against Stade Rennes that is expected to see Paris St Germain clinch their second consecutive French title. Welsh winger Gareth Bale will miss Real Madrid's crucial La Liga trip to relegation threatened Valladolid tonight at 11:00pm. Coach Carlo Ancelotti said Bale suffered a knock in his side's 2-2 draw with Valencia on Sunday, which left Real five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid but with a game in hand. LONDON — Manchester United have held talks with Edinson Cavani’s advisers in an effort to persuade the Paris St Germain (PSG) striker to sign a pre-World Cup move. United’s owners, the Glazers, are due to discuss the club’s summer transfer budget over the coming weeks, with £150 million (S$317 milli…
UNITED SET SIGHTS ON CAVANI Not having a permanent manager in place doesn't seem to be holding back Manchester United's transfer plans, if reports in today's Guardian are to be believed. The paper report that United are confident that a £30million deal for Luke Shaw will be completed, but the bigger news concerns Paris St Germain's Edinson Cavani, who the Old Trafford hierarchy believe could be recruited for a fee of £60million. The Guardian concede that that sort of money is a touch on the high side for a 27-year-old striker, but claim that United bosses want to inject some pace into their attack and also bring in a superstar as a statement of intent following the shambles of this season. EVERTON INTERESTED IN WELBECK We'll be honest, the Daily Express' headline made us giggle quite a bit: 'Everton eyeing Danny Welbeck as Romelu Lukaku alternative.' It's a *** of an alternative, as we can't think of two much more different strikers in the Premier League. However, that is the paper's claim, that Robert ...
Drogba: "When I was at Chelsea the team was different. The strikers, maybe they don't score 35 goals, but they score very important goals." "Demba Ba came off the bench [against Paris St Germain] and hadn't played for many games? He scored a goal." "And Fernando, when Chelsea came to play here [Istanbul], nobody expected him to play and he delivers, he scores." "Big players are there for big games and I think they've showed that. Eto'o has been scoring important goals for Chelsea too." "I think it's a different system, a different time, a different Chelsea. It's a successful one as well." (GQ Magazine)
Chelsea clear-out as Jose Mourinho plans to replace his entire strike force at end of Picture: Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku in line for Stamford Bridge exits with frustrated manager aiming for Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic Jose Mourinho will attempt to dump all four of Chelsea’s strikers to help fund an overhaul of his forward options. The Chelsea manager must raise the cash to bid for top targets Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic, and to comply with Financial Fair Play rules. Owner Roman Abramovich will not to stand in the way of Mourinho trying to sell or loan out £50million record purchase Fernando Torres. Romelu Lukaku is already seeking a new club, Demba Ba will be sold and Samuel Eto’o is expected to leave. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could be pitted against former club Real Madrid in the draw for the semi-finals of the Champions League, which takes place on Friday. Chelsea's dramatic victory over Paris St Germain and Real's narrow aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals earned both a place in the last four of Europe's premier club competition, where they are joined by Barcelona's conquerors Atletico Madrid and holders Bayern Munich, who beat Manchester United. Mourinho, 51, left Madrid in acrimonious circumstances in the summer - having led them to the 2011/12 La Liga title during his three-year reign - to rejoin Chelsea, who he led to two Premier League titles and an FA Cup victory during a successful spell from 2004 to 2007. The Portuguese has faced Real four times in Europe as a manager, all during his time as Porto boss, and has never beaten them, losing three of the matches and drawing the other. However, that draw - 1-1 in Madrid - came in a group game during Porto's run to winning M ...
Liverpool have never won the Premier League in its current format and name. It was in the 1989/1990 season, 24 years ago, that Liverpool last earned the coronation as English champions. The Premier League as it’s known today was founded on 20 February 1992. There was every reason to suggest at the onset of this season that Liverpool were set to have a "nightmarish" season. But today, with a handful of games to go, they are witnessing one of their best seasons ever and playing world-class quality football that’s not been seen at Anfield for a long Time. Unsettled superstar Luis Suarez ushered in the 2013/2014 season with a series of league matches off thanks to the ban after the Ivanovic biting episode. Legendary defender Jamie Carragher retired, and out-of-favour defenders Sakho from Paris St Germain and Kolo Touré from Man. City were drafted in. In addition, the club was rumoured to have dire financial difficulties while captain Steven Gerrard was supposed to have passed his prime, nursing injuries. ...
Why Reds fans wanted Chelsea to beat PSG this week Many Liverpool fans found themselves in the strange position this week of actually wanting Chelsea to beat Paris St Germain this week and reach the Champions League semi-finals. As Jose Mourinho bolted down the touchline at Stamford Bridge, rolling back the years to a time when he was a fresh-faced young scamp winding up Fergie at Old Trafford a decade ago, there were more than a few Liverpool fans who raised a smile. While there were few Liverpool fans openly supporting Chelsea on Tuesday night, it was hard not to appreciate that an aggregate win for Chelsea would, in actual fact, represent a positive result for Brendan Rodgers and his team's title charge. To some, it may seem like grasping at straws, but with just two points separating Jose's side and Liverpool with five games remaining such small margins can rely heavily on minute advantages. And, despite the smiles and celebrations, in the back of his mind, Mourinho must surely be thinking he may now ...

Jose Mourinho has made it perfectly clear that there will be changes up top for Chelsea next season. He's not happy with a £50m centre forward, an ageing World Superstar nor one of the most under-rated centre forwards in the Premier League. Here are five choices Mourinho should pursue. Edison Cavani (PSG) - Price tag £40m A superb goalscorer at Napoli, he has struggled since his move to Paris St Germain, playing second fiddle to Ibrahimovic. Cavani has had to play out wide in a front 3, which shows his flexibility, but he would surely flourish as a centre forward in the Premier League. PSG do not need to sell, but Chelsea can flex those financial muscles and offer a deal he cannot refuse. Radamel Falcao (Monaco) - Price tag £35m A highly sought after striker at Porto, the Colombian made what you would think was a money motivated move, joining Monaco. However the move has not come off, and he has struggled for form, and also picked up a knee ligament injury in the past few months. Will he be the sam ...

Can Ibrahimovic's reality finally catch up with the myth? investigates
Paris St Germain has all been about Zlatan Ibrahimovic over the last few years. Despite joining the club for £62 million last summer, Edinson Cavani has become a forgotten man at the French club. Cavani has been the top dog with the national team and also at his previous club, Napoli. He would have certainly not envisaged such a position whereby he would be playing out on the wings as a decoy for Ibrahimovic. His frustrations have come out at the worst possible time for PSG, as he has revealed in an interview to L'Equipe that he will consider his future at the club in the summer. He said: “Will I remain at Paris next term? We will see at the end of the season. I am fine in Paris, but obviously there are things we have to talk about with the club, things we need to do in a different way. “Today I defend a lot, I have another idea of what my role in the team should be. “As an attacker I am used to finishing attacks and scoring and today I must perform other tasks. No, it is not easy, it's true.” Th ...

PSG boss responds to Mourinho criticism and gives his verdict on Hazard Tuesday,April 1, 2014 04:17 PM Paris St Germain boss Laurent Blanc has hit back at Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s taunt that Ligue 1 is a cakewalk for the Parisiens by pointing at the Portuguese’s history with Real Madrid. Mourinho, who won one Primera Division title in three seasons in Spain in a Barcelona-led duopoly, had suggested winning Ligue 1 is easy, stoking the fires ahead of his Chelsea side’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Parc des Princes on Wednesday night. “Maybe if we’re talking about the league and I’m sure that Jose Mourinho knows the French league very well,” Blanc said. “There are two really big clubs in Ligue 1 (PSG and Monaco), but if I remember correctly, I think it was the same for him in Spain, with Barcelona and Madrid. “The only answer we want to give is to show a great performance tomorrow and we’d like to show that Ligue 1 has some very good teams and some very good players ...
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has ruled out playing for an English club in the future and believes his best chance of achieving Champions League glory is at Paris St Germain.
Champions League NEWS ‘PSG improved but Chelsea still favourites’ 01 Apr 2014 16:47:14 Paris St Germain are stronger than last season and he is in the best shape of his life, yet Zlatan Ibrahimovic says experienced Chelsea are the hot favourites in the Champions League quarterfinal against the French champions. PSG, who were knocked out by Barcelona in the quarterfinals last year, have overcome weaker opponents so far this season and 2012 champions Chelsea are clearly a big test of their European credentials. "We are beginners in everything we do while Chelsea have had a project for 10 years," Sweden striker Ibrahimovic, who has scored 10 goals in Europe's premier competition this season, told a news conference at the Parc des Princes. "I think Chelsea are the super favourites. "Experience is an advantage for the one who has it. I think Chelsea has more experience in the Champions League. We're in the position Chelsea were eight or nine years ago." Chelsea started their transformation into continental ...

Jose Mourinho will sacrifice David Luiz to find the funds for a Chelsea summer overhaul. Luiz's insipid display at Selhurst Park on Saturday, when he was hooked at half-time, was the final straw for Mourinho, who will now hope to set up an auction for the Brazilian after the World Cup. Mourinho accepts he has to work within the provisions of Financial Fair Play, meaning a need to raise funds to pay for a what he has described as required "surgical movements in the transfer window". While Chelsea are confident of landing Atletico Madrid's £45million Spain striker Diego Costa, more cash will be needed to help pay for a planned revamp, with Luiz - along with mis-firing Fernando Torres - the two most valuable commodities Mourinho is happy to offload. But despite Luiz's lack of Stamford Bridge future, and awareness of Mourinho's limited faith, the Brazilian will still be entrusted to start against potential next employers Paris St Germain tomorrow. Mourinho's patience with Luiz finally snapped at Selhurst Par ...

José Mourinho: 'PSG can have Oscar and Eden Hazard… for £300m' José Mourinho has responded to speculation in France that Paris St Germain want to sign Chelsea forwards Eden Hazard and Oscar by claiming they could sell – but only for £300m. Former Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye this week expressed his hope to be reunited with his former Lille team-mate Hazard, while Lucas Moura thinks PSG should move for his Brazil team-mate Oscar. In an era of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations, PSG should not be able to consider signing the playmaking pair, according to Mourinho, who believes the astronomical spending of the likes of Manchester City, PSG, Monaco and others should be scrutinised by the footballing authorities. However, if FFP is not applied to PSG, Mourinho suggested the pair could be sold - at a price. Mourinho said: "No. It's not irritating. No problem. "If there is Financial Fair Play, they don't have money to buy them. "If there is no Financial Fair Play and they threw something crazy, ...

My prediections: Barcelona v Atletico Madrid ~ This one will be tight, but I think experience will see Barqa through to the final four. Neymar and Messi will score enough goals to cover for Barqa's defensive deficiencies, and Puyol will be leaving it all out on the field in his final campaign. Barqa will win one for the Gipper and go through. Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund ~ Real Madrid will have more problems than people expect. Don't forget; Borussia Dortmund were the Bundesliga champions two seasons ago. They may appear to have faltered since, but a lot of that is due to Bayern Munich playing out of thier minds and destroying the Bundesliga each of the past two seasons. They won't be scared by Real's attack, and may actually grab a home victory. But it won't be enough; I see Real going through, especially after last year's disappointment. Bale will be the difference. Paris St Germain v Chelsea ~ Easily the premier matchup of this stage in the competition. Less than two years removed from their surpris ...

vs Paris St Germain in third quarter-final of Champions League
Euro giants await Champions League draw 21 March 2014, 06:33 Spanish clubs Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are all ready to take on Champions League title holders Bayern Munich if thrown together in Friday's quarterfinal draw. The three Spanish sides top Uefa's European club rankings and, according to Real coach Carlo Ancelotti their presence in the quarterfinals highlights the dominance of La Liga. "It is good that there are three Spanish teams in the quarterfinals. It shows Spanish football is in good health," Ancelotti said after Madrid completed their last-16 victory over Germany's Schalke on Tuesday. The contenders – Real, Barcelona, Atletico, Bayern, Paris St Germain, Chelsea, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund – occupy eight of the top nine spots in the Uefa club rankings going into the draw at the federation headquarters in Nyon at 1100 GMT. Liverpool FC defender Mamadou Sakho believes education is the best way to tackle racism and all other forms of discrimination. A survey published on Tuesday claimed more than half of all professional footballers in England have either witnessed or been subjected to racist abuse in stadiums. The poll of 200 players in the Premier League and Football League was carried out by football’s anti-discrimination group Kick It Out. France defender Sakho has only been in English football for a short time, having joined from Paris St Germain last summer, and said racism is not an issue he has had much experience of personally. However, he has tried to do his part to promote tolerance back in his homeland. “I’ve only experienced it once in my life and it was not really related to football,” he said. “At that time I was affiliated to PSG’s academy and there were a couple of us aged 13 or 14 coming out of a first-team game at Parc de Princes. “We were on the concourse and a bottle of alcohol was thrown at ...

Manchester City are believed to be among 76 European clubs being investigated for possible breaches of UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. The clubs, also thought to include Paris St Germain, all failed the body's break-even calculations for 2012 and have been asked to provide financial information for 2013. The number equates to about one third of the total of clubs in European competition this season. The clubs will now have their finances assessed by the Club Financial Control Body to see if the breaches have continued and whether sanctions should apply. UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino said: "This figure of 76 clubs is a high figure but it has to be looked at in the perspective of what the end figure will be." Clubs face a range of sanctions ranging from a warning or a fine up to being forced to play in Europe with a salary cap on the squad, or even being barred from competing and having trophies stripped. The sanctions will apply from the start of next season but in April UEFA will name th ...
Oh ! Jose Mourinho.culled from Eurosport.yahoo.com " The Portuguese manager shot down suggestions that Roman Abramovich could bankroll a huge move for another Ligue 1 star, Paris St Germain's Zlatan Ibrahimovic. "It’s impossible. He’s happy at Paris. I know because he is my friend and we are in touch," Mourinho said. "PSG, with all its wealth, would never open the door. That’s mission impossible." Mourinho gave a frank and lengthy interview to the show as part of a publicity appearance for a Swiss watch company - with other topics including his intention to "build the team around" Eden Hazard over the next decade. But perhaps the most interesting comments of all came in unguarded moments caught on camera away from the formal interview. AFP football writer Tom Williams and France's L'Equipe newspaper report that, when asked if Eto'o is recovering his best form, Mourinho's answer was scathing. "No," he said. "He's 32. Maybe 35." Eto'o, for the record, is 32, the same age as Ibrahimovic. But Mourinho's ...

Diego Forlan says Luis Suarez is a 'hero' in Uruguay and is delighted to be his strike partner heading into the World Cup. The pair are expected to lead Uruguay's assault on global international glory this summer, with Paris St Germain forward Edinson Cavani another exciting attacking option at coach Oscar Tabarez's disposal. It will likely be Suarez who attracts the most attention in Brazil, with the Liverpool frontman having put his recent on-field troubles behind him to become the Premier League's leading marksman. Forlan knows the 27-year-old as well as anyone and, while conceding that he may not be to everyone's liking, considers him to be among the most talented footballers of his generation. Former Manchester United forward Forlan told the Daily Telegraph: "If you want to sum up what Luis Suarez can be like on a football field, look at the Ghana game in the last World Cup. "He handled the ball on the line in the last minute of the quarter-final. He did it for the team and the world saw it. "When th ...
Rummenigge wants UEFA to act on PSG Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has become the latest high profile official to urge UEFA to enforce its own Financial Fair Play rules, saying it must act against Paris St Germain if there has been any breach of regulations. The FFP rules, which came fully into force this season after a three year transitional period, in essence state that clubs cannot spend more than they earn from their TV rights, gate receipts, sponsorship and competition prize money revenue streams. The system allows for some debt, but is designed to stop reckless spending on wages and transfer fees, thanks to huge cash injections from wealthy owners. “I cannot imagine that Paris St Germain are complying with Financial Fair Play,” Rummenigge, the chairman of European champions Bayern Munich and also chairman of the powerful European Club Association, told the SpoBis business convention in Duesseldorf, Germany on Wednesday. French champions PSG, owned by the Qatar Investment Authority, were not immediately ...

BREAKING: Kinnear quits Newcastle job Newcastle United's controversial director of football Joe Kinnear has quit seven months into a three-year deal after his second spell at the Premier League club in which they made no permanent signings for the first-team squad. Kinnear, 67, had come under fire after Newcastle, who were thrashed 3-0 at home by local rivals Sunderland in the league on Saturday, did not buy any new players in the January transfer window and lost playmaker Yohan Cabaye to Paris St Germain. "Newcastle United can confirm that Joe Kinnear has this evening resigned from his position as director of football with immediate effect," the north-east club said in a statement on their official website ( www.nufc.co.uk). Kinnear was responsible for attracting talent to the club but strikers Luuk de Jong and Loic Remy, on loan from Borussia Moenchengladbach and Queens Park Rangers respectively, were the only players added to the first-team squad under his watch. Yohan Cabaye transfer highlights lure of the superpower The news that Yohan Cabaye will be returning to France with Paris St Germain has come as a bitter blow to Newcastle United and everybody around the club. Particularly stinging is that they were helpless to stand in his way. Hopping from the challenge of securing European football to that of winning a league title, there was never going to be any chance of keeping him once the superpowers came calling. Not for the last time will a club as passionate and popular as Newcastle lose a prodigal son to the elite of world football. The pangs of sympathy at losing such a marvel like Cabaye will not help the club grieve for the talent that will now need replacing with just days of the transfer window remaining. The simple fact remains that once the big guns come calling, that’s it. In the modern era, the lure of the footballing superpower is at an all-time high. Famous cases of the past include Dimitar Berbatov leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Manchester United ...

Lionel Messi’s future is still uncertain after his father remained coy over a suggested move to Paris St Germain, as reported by Sky Sports. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will head into the January transfer window hopeful of hanging on to star midfielder Yohan Cabaye as potential purchasers circle once again.
