OMAHA, Neb. (AP) It's the Southeastern Conference vs. the Pac-12 for the second straight year in the finals of the College World Series. Mississippi State and UCLA will square off in the best-of-three starting Monday at TD Ameritrade Park after each went unbeaten in winning its bracket. UCLA survived a rocky ninth inning to eliminate No. 1 national seed North Carolina with a 4-1 win on Friday night. The Bulldogs got a three-run homer from Hunter Renfroe and defeated Oregon State 4-1 in the afternoon. Mississippi State beat Oregon State twice in bracket play — a fact that did not go unnoticed by Bruins coach John Savage. Oregon State won two of three against the Bruins in Los Angeles while winning the Pac-12 championship. ''To beat Oregon State, we know how good Oregon State is. They're good,'' Savage said. ''And to do what they did against them twice, it goes to show that they're a little better than them. So we're going to respect the game. We're going to respect the opponent. We're going to respect th ...
Who should I go for this year in the College World Series...Indiana, UCLA, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Mississippi State, Oregon State, or Louisville?
Who you all got for the College World Series?. . UCLA?. Indiana?. Louisville?. LSU?. NC State?. Oregon State?. Mississippi State?. North Carolina?
COLLEGE BASEBALL TRIVIA: Of the 299 Division 1 NCAA teams, only 64 get to play in the the National Tournament and the surviving 8 get to play in the CWS for the National Championship. This year only 3 of the top 8 seeded teams made it to the CWS; North Carolina, Oregon State, and LSU. The other 5 ranked teams surving are: North Carolina State, Miss. State, Indiana, UCLA, and Louisville. So this year, unless you were ranked in the top 20 teams, your chances of playing in the CWS were slim ! Also 5 of the top seeded teams did not make it to the CWS including: Vanderbilt, Cal Fullerton, Virginia, Florida State, and Oregon. The CWS starts this week in Omaha, Nebraska. Winner ???
Oregon State is headed back to the College World Series! Only 1 spot left. Who is going to get it? North Carolina or South Carolina? GO!
College baseball: No. 2 Vanderbilt, out. No. 5 Cal State-Fullerton, out. No. 6 Virginia, out. No. 7 Florida State, out. No. 8 Oregon, didn't survive last weekend. No. 3 Oregon State must win tonight to advance, No. 1 North Carolina rained out and must win tomorrow to advance. That's why they call it baseball.
Tom's NCAA Baseball top 5. 1) Vanderbuilt; 2) LSU; 3) North Carolina; 4) Cal State Fullerton; 5) Oregon State. I had UNC at even before the win today...how were they under VA??? Tigers can jump to with a win over Vandy this afternoon but I think both will be chosen as host sites through regionals and supers so today's game is just about the SEC trophy. Hate to see LSU play 5 days straight and then head into regionals.I almost think it's worth it to drop the two first games and go home than to play the whole tourney.oh well, hopefully pitching will hold up.Geaux Tigers!!!
Check out Baseball America's Pre-Season Top 25! Let the Road to Omaha begin! We can't wait!! Is your Team Ranked? 2013 Preseason College Top 25 Rankings By Aaron Fitt January 24, 2013 E-mail Print DURHAM, N.C—North Carolina is No. 1 in Baseball America's preseason Top 25 rankings for the first time in program history. The Tar Heels, who have made five trips to the College World Series in the last seven years, return three weekend starters who posted sub-2.00 ERAs last year, headlining one of the nation's deepest pitching staffs. Southeastern Conference teams occupy three of the next four spots, and five of the top 10. Eight SEC teams appear in the Top 25, leading all conferences. No. 2 Vanderbilt and No. 3 Arkansas each earn their highest preseason rankings ever, as do No. 4 Louisville, No. 6 Oregon State and No. 8 North Carolina State. Fifth-ranked Mississippi State enters the season with its highest ranking since it topped the 1989 preseason Top 25. New Mexico, which checks in at No. 21, earns a pres ...
A little piece of trivia: I am at the site of the 1942 Rose Bowl, played at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, NC. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Originally scheduled to be played in the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, it was moved to Durham, North Carolina, due to fears about an attack by the Japanese on the West Coast of the United States following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The United States government had ordered that large public gatherings on the West Coast of the United States were to be prohibited for the duration of the war, and the first significant canceled event was the Rose Bowl Game scheduled for New Year's Day, 1942. The Oregon State Beavers defeated the host Duke Blue Devils 20-16 in Duke Stadium on the Duke University campus. Donald Durdan of Oregon State was named the Rose Bowl Player Of The Game when the award was created in 1953 and selections were made retroactively.
Interesting, wasn't sure why I liked the Giants this year, aside from the fact that they came back to win... just figured it out this morning, happened with Black & Orange in 2006, sorta: After losing their tournament opener to Miami, the Oregon State Beavers staved off elimination for four straight games to win their bracket and advance to the championship series. The Rice Owls, who had not lost a three-game series all season, were shut out in consecutive games by the Beavers and failed to score in a CWS-record 23 innings. Oregon State advanced to face North Carolina in the final. The best-of-three championship series featured Oregon State and North Carolina. Oregon State won the deciding game, 3-2, winning the school's first national title in baseball and its second NCAA championship overall. Oregon State set a CWS record by winning six elimination games (four in bracket play, two in the championship series) and also became the first team ever to lose twice in Omaha and still win the title. Oregon State ...
Useless Trivia of the Day: Because of fears that the Japanese, who had attacked Pearl Harbor less than a month earlier, might attach California, the Rose Bowl Game of 1942 between Oregon State and Duke University was moved east to Duke's hometown in Durham, North Carolina. It didn't help the home team, however. Oregon State won, 20-16.
.Oregon State lost its opening game. Fresno State won its first two then lost to North Carolina. Both went 2-1 in finals.
Round four of Weird State Laws ensures that I will never be moving to North Carolin for fear of being arrested, but may consider Rhode Island for piece of mind. New Mexico: Females may not appear unshaven in public. New York: While riding in an elevator, you must talk to no one, fold your hands, and look toward the door. North Carolina: It’s against the law to sing off-key. North Dakota: It’s illegal to lie down and fall asleep with your shoes on. Ohio: You must honk the horn whenever you pass another car, according to the state’s driver’s education manual. Oklahoma: It’s forbidden to take a bite out of another person’s hamburger. Oregon: State law requires dishes to be drip-dried. Pennsylvania: It’s illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors. Rhode Island: You may not bite off another person’s leg. South Carolina: If a man promises to marry an unmarried woman, he is required by law to keep his promise.
