Even if most of you were happy, we still care about those who had issues. I'd like to address those here. 1.) We will not be changing locations next year. We will, however, be changing dates. Mardi Gras is March 1, and we will be avoiding that weekend. 2.) We will be adding a staggered vendor check-in process that will clear up some of the traffic at the loading dock. 3.) We will add a better parking guide to our website so that you know where you can park cheaper than at the hotel. 4.) We will thin out the number of events and panels during both Opening Ceremonies and the Masquerade, but we will keep just as many at other times. 5.) We will be adding an additional two A/V coordinators for panels. I hope these address the issues we did have - the crowded loading dock, parking problems, Mardi Gras revelers, A/V equipment running late, and low attendance at the Masquerade.

Some quick info to help you plan the weekend of March 1st-3rd for the Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament Opening Ceremonies for the State Tournament start at 8:00 on Friday night. Please have your athlete to the Toyota Town Center by 7:45 so we can march into the stadium as a team. We will be in line with the SW Region sign, so find us, drop your athlete off and find a seat! Opening Ceremonies last an hour to an hour and a half. We will meet in the same location after the ceremony. We will play games on Saturday (times to be announced) and if we do well on Saturday we will play on Sunday. There is a dance at the Wenatchee Coast Hotel: *The Victory Dance will take place in the Grand Apple Ballroom at CWHC on Saturday from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. The theme for the dance is “Stars and Stripes Forever (Red, White and Blue).” Again this year, Rockin Hair Salon will be styling hair on Saturday from 4:30 -7:30 p.m. at CWHC.

Duncan McRae passed away due to a freak long boarding accident, an accident that devastated our Association. Shaw Meadows has planned a tournament in Duncan's memory that will run from December 13th-16th for Bantam aged players. We have been lucky enough to have many different Associations send teams to this tournament, and we look forward to some wonderfully competitive hockey games. At the November general meeting, our membership voted on accepting the invitation from the Post Commander to join their opening ceremonies before our separately held general meetings every month. Not only does this reinforce the Legion family commitment between us, but the Auxiliary will be part of the moving POW/MIA ceremony performed by the Legionaries. At the end of the opening ceremonies, the Commander will excuse the Auxiliary to conduct their own general meeting. It is proper procedure for the Auxiliary to stand, only at this time, and leave the room. This will avoid the sounds of scrapping chairs while the Commander is speaking. No DSOA entry rated below Excellent. Of 17 possible Critics' Choice awards, DSOA Theatre brings home 9. Each Critics' Choice winning entry will compete at the Florida State Thespian Festival. Medora's Old Fashioned Cowboy Christmas is well underway. Tonight marked the opening ceremonies with a Veteran's Memorial Service and Tree Lighting in Downtown Medora. God Bless America was sung by those attending who paraded to the Billing's County Veterans Memorial where a blessing was said and a wreath laid in honor of those who have served our country. The Evening capped off with a great Win & Beer Sampling preceding the performance of "Dakota Air: The Radio Show". The show was terrific and the band, The Radio Stars, will be playing tomorrow night at the Medora Community Center! They're terrific!

It is a mature democracy and not even the Conservative Government would consider dismantling or seriously cutting back on the NHS. The head of their Olympics was Sebastian Coe. He is a Conservative MP. You may recall that there was a major celebration of the NHS in the Opening Ceremonies. They look at health care as a right and a necessity much like police or fire protection and taxes are levied in a way commensurate with paying for those things. You can choose your NHS doctor or you can seek private care if you prefer that. I don't see what Americans are so afraid of. The fact is, they get a better result for their population at a fraction of the cost, and they are free...of any possibility of going bankrupt, ending up homeless or dying for lack of money for health care.

If you didn't see it, a triple amputee Marine, along with the "Say Hey Kid" (Willie Mays) and Barry Zito went to the mound to throw out the first pitch. Couldn't pull out a close 1st game, losing to Miller Co. 3-1, in 8 innings. The Ladies all played great, just missed that timely hit, when we needed it. Played in the BIG Stadium, with opening ceremonies right after our game, the ladies ended playing in front of several hundred people. Was a great game to watch. Got to have our A-game tomorrow. I must say that the opening ceremonies to tonight's World Series just brought tears to my eyes. Thank you to the men and women who serve--especially the athletes of the World War II generation. I am not sure we would see service like that ever again from professional athletes. The whole thing was just emotional!
