The King of Clay reigns still: Rafa Nadal won his record ninth ROLAND-GARROS title today, defeating Novak Djokovic 3-6 7-5 6-2 6-4 to remain world and move to a tie at second place in the all-time major championship singles wins list among men by winning his 14th major (tied with Pete Sampras), putting him within three majors of the leader, seventeen-time major champion Roger Federer. Nadal is the only male to have won any single major title more than seven times, and one of only two people in tennis history to have won a particular major singles title nine times (Martina Navratilova won nine Wimbledon ladies' singles titles). He also has extended his record of winning at least one major singles title each year, now having won at least one in each of the last 10 years, a record for which he stands alone all-time among men, matched only by Steffi Graf, who won at least one major per year each year from 1987 to 1996. Some more facts on Li Na (from WTA official site) Having fought off a match point in her third round match against Lucie Safarova, she's also the fourth woman in the Open Era to win the Aussie Open after saving match point (joining Monica Seles, Jennifer Capriati and Serena Williams, who did it twice). But perhaps more importantly, the woman who became Asia's first Grand Slam champion at the French Open in 2011 is now a two-time Grand Slam champion. She will return to No.3 on Monday, the highest ranking ever for an Asian player, and she will only be a handful of points from No.2.

There is loads of TV talk about Serena Williams breaking Margaret Court's record of singles wins at the Australian Open. But there is very little talk about Court, which has become par for the course. It is almost as if the ex-champions don't want to talk about her because they pale in comparison when they are talking about themselves. We can argue about the all-time greatest players, and compare and contrast the eras that they played. But what can't be argued is that Margaret Court is the MOST SUCCESSFUL female player of all-time. And it isn't really close. From Wikipedia statistics: "Margaret Court. Court won 62 Grand Slam events (24 singles, 19 doubles, 19 mixed doubles), which is a record for a male or female player. Her 24 Grand Slam singles titles and 19 in mixed doubles are also all-time records across both sexes. She achieved a career Grand Slam in singles, doubles and mixed doubles, is one of two women to have achieved the Grand Slam in singles in the Open Era (alongside Steffi Graf), and is the ...
Djokovic, Serena Williams Win At Australian Open by The Associated Press January 13, 2014 5:18 PM MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — A rusty Novak Djokovic began his bid for a fourth consecutive Australian Open title on Monday with a win over Lukas Lacko while Serena Williams looked as polished as ever beating Australian teenager Ashleigh Barty. With his new coach and six-time Grand Slam singles champion Boris Becker watching him during an official match for the first time, Djokovic appeared tentative early against the Slovakian player, who often appeared content to keep the ball in play. But as the second-seeded Djokovic's patience level began to drop, his skill level stepped up. He stayed on course for a fifth Australian title with a 6-5, 7-6 (2), 6-1 win, hoping to be the first man to achieve that feat since the Open Era began in 1968. Top-ranked Williams won her 23rd consecutive match — including 18 at the end of last season and four last week in winning the Brisbane International — after beating Barty ...

Timeline of Roger Federer's troubled 2013 Roger Federer's troubled 2013 season came to a suitably downbeat conclusion with a semi-final loss against Rafael Nadal in the ATP World Tour Finals on Sunday. Here AFP Sports looks at the low points of the Swiss star's worst campaign for over a decade: January - Loses in Australian Open semi-final to Andy Murray. February - Beaten in Rotterdam quarter-finals by Julien Benneteau, breaking a run of 28 consecutive last-eight wins against players outside the top 10. Serena Williams Speculates on Another Decade of Playing October 22, 2013 at 10:08AM Could she break Steffi Graf's Grand Slam record?By Nick Georgandis At 32, Serena Williams has reached the age where many tennis players begin to see a dip in their skills. Although that's a little laughable considering she's been No. 1 in the world for the last 36 weeks in a row. As Williams prepared for this week's WTA Championships, she was asked by an interviewer where she saw herself in 10 years' time. "Who knows? I might be here. I have learned from 10 years ago. I can never say," she responded. The idea of Williams playing into her 40s isn't entirely preposterous. Martina Navratilova played competitive singles until she was 38 and Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm continues to defy the odds and is active on tour, celebrating her 43rd birthday three weeks ago. If she were to play even another five years, Williams could be considered a threat to catch Steffi Graf's Open Era record of 22 Grand Slam singles titles - Williams is ...
Novak & Rafa: The Rivalry: One day before Rafael Nadal officially overtakes Novak Djokovic atop the Emirates ATP Rankings, the pair will face off for the 38th time in the China Open final. They hold the record for the most meetings between two players in the Open Era, eclipsing the mark previously held by Ivan Lendl-John McEnroe. Djokovic is looking to win the Beijing title for the fourth time and claim his first title since dethroning Nadal as eight-time champion at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters in April. Nadal will attempt to lift the Beijing trophy for the second time after victory on his 2005 debut. The Spaniard has won their past three meetings to widen his lead in their FedEx ATP Head2Head rivalry to 22-15, though Djokovic still maintains the 11-7 edge on hard courts. Nadal holds marks of 13-3 on clay and 2-1 on grass. Serena confirms for Australian Open 02 Oct 2013 , Sydney, October 02, 2013 World tennis number one Serena Williams will begin her campaign for an 18th Grand Slam title by warming up for the 2014 Australian Open at the Brisbane International, she announced on Wednesday. Williams is the defending Brisbane champion and said the December 29-January 5 tournament fitted her preparations perfectly. "They have a great fitness centre; they have great courts that are identical to the surface played in Melbourne," she said in a statement. "Plus I have a week off after the tournament, so it's always a good preparation to play in Brisbane, and it's always fun to go back and try and defend your title." The American will be gunning for an 18th major title at the Australian Open, a feat that would put her alongside Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert in the all-time Open Era win list, behind only Steffi Graf (22). Andy Murray, right from the word go, was irrepressible in his performance. He marched on relentlessly to edge Novac Djokovic in straight sets (6-4; 7-5; 6-4), thus creating HISTORY for himself and for Great Britain. I believe he is the first British Wimbledon champion in the Open Era. The last time Wimbledon produced a British champion was 77 years ago in the person of Fred Parry. That three quarters of century drought ended to day and we all bear witness to that momentous moment in British sporting history. 2000s Sampras reached the semifinals of the Australian Open in early 2000 (falling to the eventual champion Agassi in a five-set match) and won the Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida for the third time in March. He then won a record-breaking 13th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, battling through tendonitis in his right shin and a painful back injury in the process. This victory was his eighth consecutive win in a Grand Slam final (starting at 1995 Wimbledon), which remains a record in the Open Era. After this victory, Sampras did not win another title for more than two years. He lost in the finals of the 2000 and 2001 US Open to Marat Safin and Lleyton Hewitt, respectively, leading many to speculate that Sampras would never capture another major title. At the 2001 Wimbledon Championships, Sampras lost to Roger Federer, who was 19 at the time, 6–7(7), 7–5, 4–6, 7–6(2), 5–7, in the fourth round, ending Sampras's 31-match winning streak at Wimbledon. The match also marked the first and only time ...

Shadow Housing Minister Jo-Ann Miller said although the LNP government had an offer of $2.5 million in Federal funds on the table, it was determined to doom the TAAS service by playing petty political games instead of helping the thousands of Queenslanders who rely on the critical service to keep a roof over their heads. Mrs Miller said Housing Minister Tim Mander was showing his true cruel and callous colours by refusing to accept the offer and keep TAAS offices in regional centres throughout the state open. “With a stroke of his pen Mr Mander can save thousands of families the anguish they will experience once this service is gone,” Mrs Miller sai ...

Hydrotherapy is a wonderful science that has been used since ancient times. Hydrotherapy is the use of water as a medical treatment. The water can be in the form of water vapor, steam, liquid, or ice, and can be either taken internally or used externally. Other common names for hydrotherapy are water therapy, balneotherapy, hydrothermal therapy. The therapeutic use of water has a long history. Ruins of an ancient bath were unearthed in Pakistan and date as far back as 4500 B.C. Bathhouses were an essential part of ancient Roman culture. The use of steam, baths, and aromatic massage to promote well being is documented since the first century. Roman physicians Galen and Celsus wrote of treating patients with warm and cold baths in order to prevent disease. The use of heat hydrotherapy, especially as promoted during the height of its Victorian revival, has often been associated with the use of cold water, as evidenced by many titles from that era. The specific use of heat was however often associated with t ...

Total of 706 candidates to run for Parliament May 28, 2013 02:18 AM By Van Meguerditchian The Daily Star BEIRUT: A total of 706 candidates submitted their applications for Lebanon’s upcoming parliamentary elections by the midnight deadline set by the Interior Ministry. Despite an overwhelming reluctance to hold polls next month under the existing 1960 Law, all major political parties submitted their lists of candidates by the Monday evening deadline. The Kataeb Party, which initially rejected holding polls under the existing law, filed a list of 19 candidates with the Interior Ministry at 10:30 p.m. “The Interior Ministry is now prepared to hold elections on June 16 based on the 1960 Law,” caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said at a news conference minutes after the ministry stopped receiving applications. “For us, there is an active law and the ministry does not have a choice but to prepare elections under this law,” Charbel said, adding that a failure by the ministry to hold polls on ...
Many years ago, I came across the following piece of information that changed my life. i am sharing it with you today, trusting that it will change yours. Taking total responsibility for all of the negative events in our life as well as the positive ones is truly a life changing event. Although I didn't do everything at once that Virginia share in this amazing piece, I am now doing my very best to be totally and completely awakened, aware and willing to be the very best me that I can be. I lovingly invite you to join me in AWAKENING. The Awakening... © Virginia Marie Swift A time comes in your life when you finally get it... When in the midst of all your fears and insanity you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere the voice inside your head cries out - ENOUGH! Enough fighting and crying or struggling to hold on. And, like a child quieting down after a blind tantrum, your sobs begin to subside, you shudder once or twice, you blink back your tears and through a mantle of wet lashes you begin to look a ...
Despite the appreciation we all have for the feelings of love.and even though love mostly becomes the idol of this age to which incense is burnt and sacrifices are offered by youths' blood and from men's reputations.despite the chants that are recited, and the drums that are beaten and the pipes that are blown for love.and the cinema and television that are devoted to glorify and raise it to the throne to be the first idol, the primary aim, the sole concern, the sole object and the necessary purpose of life without which life is not life. Although we all are either perpetrators or victims of love, and there is none of us except he is afflicted by a wound or an arrow or a burning from love, or he hurt others by an arrow, or a wound or a burning. In spite of that extreme importance and absolute precedence of love, I ask for your permission to think again and to contemplate for a while in an effort to understand that maze in which we all wander. I ask myself first, and then I ask you: Do you know ...
Proverbs 31:8 (05-28-13) - Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.&Proverbs 31:8 (KJV)Thoughts on Today's Verse...Christians in every era are called to defend the rights of the weak, speak up for the disenfranchised, and protect the life of those who are vulnerable. Well, it is that time of year again. The time of year when we see the most concentrations of bowling center closures. (Some have labeled it "fire" season.) The following was written in 2010 at the onset of one of the worst fire seasons ever. I had hoped for some sort of response from the collective numbness at Arlington. But alas, what was true in 2010 still rings loud in 2013. When will the hostage takers engage with those who wish to reclaim our sport? The Ghosts of 70 Million "This industry starting in the Spring of'72 began a marketing campaign, based on the misread of data, to market bowling as a recreation. While the recreational dollars are essential, it is not the core of the business. When the marketing aspect of bowling-as-an-institution forgot this core knowledge the music started to die. The result is where we are now. When this industry starts marketing this game as a sport first and foremost we, as an industry, in five years will turn it around. Like our society, when the essence is forgotte ...

What UN security did confirms that Kenya has Assembled a Rogue Government. Some people think Electing Mr Ruto is a great Achievement. Some even think electing Uhuru is such a marvelous Idea. I dont judge them. Is just like asking What the *** do people in Zimbabwe think by electing a rogue president year in year out. It is like cursing people in Uganda for electing a despot who is turning uganda into a dictatorial regm way too fast. Is like asking what people in Sudan think by electing Albashir. In the light of this revelations Kenyans have gone ahead to elect suspected Criminals to govern our country and currently they are hating the west for not supporting our disgraced president. Now that Ruto has managed to bring Africa into this crisis do you think west Is happy? Do you think they like the idea passed at Addis ababa? I fear worst lies ahead. We will go down at expense of an individual. Ruto is always putting our own existence into a threat.

I need to get a new smart phone the problem is there are so many choices out there and I haven't really been keeping up with whats happening since I thought we were gonna be together forever(my last phone and I).So now I'm back in the market wondering what to get, any suggestions? I'm not really into apps and playing games on my phone so I don't really need a phone with stuff like a multi-core processor(though I don't mind it, my last one had a dual-core processor but the battery didn't last that long). As long as I can read my emails, whatsapp, use google maps and google translator I'm fine.Oh and take really good pictures :) and maybe download a couple of more apps.. okay, I want an average smartphone :) I've never used a windows phone before, are they so much different from Android phones?

Pretty sure the second group gets paid alot more than the first but when u got a future Hall of Famer it makes a difference. Another reason why Thunder need an elite post player...

On being asked about their marital status, I have heard almost all the people who are married reply - as if being compelled by some pressure - that they have been happily married for so and so many years. This makes me wonder why every married person adds the prefix ‘happily’ before stating that he is married. Marriage obviously being such an ecstatic state to be in that every person from a raving *** to a multidimensional genius treads into its realms willingly. It seems that marriage is the ultimate goal of life or perhaps an eventuality as unavoidable as death so people bow before it smilingly. Then why state the obvious? This question came to mind in my early youth and was still irritating a niche of my mind when I started to study for my Master’s degree. Mind you, at that time I was not against getting married. In fact I was anxiously waiting to complete my education, get a job and deliver a speech before my parents which I had been continuously rehearsing in my mind since puberty. It was aim . ...

After a 10 days visit to Lebanon and Syria, leading a 16 person delegation from 8 countries, invited by Mussalaha Reconciliation Movement, I have returned hopeful that peace is possible in Syria, if all outside interference is stopped and the Syrians are allowed to solve their own problems upholding their right to self-determination. THE EARLY STAINS OF MAY Chapter two A song of two years The darkest hour of Nigeria history under the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration have not yet come because as politicians from the nation’s different opposition parties continue to insist that his style of leadership should become more open to public debate for it to achieve a more acceptable level of accountability a dark cloud falls on the nation for the spin doctors of the government to bring all possible suggestions of political victory in to the equation of power play even if it means doing the needful that is not obvious and this is nothing more than a recipe for anarchy, they simply will not agree that that the president’s past achievement have been grossly over exaggerated. The opposition parties themselves do not have a better story for their own course. They simply have not made their own achievement more memorable in the mind of the public because as it is at the moment it is nothing more than a collection of inconclusive . ...

Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts make debut in Mao's China PTI | May 27, 2013, 04.16 PM IST BEIJING: The first Chinese version of a book on Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts was launched here on Monday, marking the debut of Gandhian philosophy in a country intensely dominated by the ideology of 'Chairman' Mao Zedong. 'Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership', written by former Indian diplomat-turned-Gandhian Pascal Alan Nazareth, was released at the Peking University's Centre for India Studies in the presence of Indian Ambassador to China S Jaishankar. Prof Shang Quanyu, a history professor with the South China Normal University, translated the book into Madarin. He described the book as a "trail blazer". Indian officials said in many ways the book was an "official debut" of Gandhian thoughts in Mao's China as the revolutionary leader, a contemporary of Gandhi dominated the Chinese thought like a colossus for over six decades until the country began loosening its the grip over his ideology in recent years. Officials said this w ...
News just out: Conrad Smith is taking up 'his sabatical clause' and will miss the end of year tour. Is this going to win over the many critics.. who think McCaw, Carter and now Smith etc should not be given special treatment. If a smart guy like Smith believes he needs a decent break to give him a shot at the next world cup, that's good enough for me. Whatever you think about sabaticals.. they are helping to keep our top players in NZ.. agreed???

Europe's austerity-to-growth shift largely semantic listen to some European leaders, especially in France, you would think the era of austerity was over and the euro zone was going full steam ahead to revive economic growth. In a striking change of tone, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said last month that austerity - the policy of cutting public debt by reducing spending and raising taxes - had reached the limits of public acceptance. In reality, the shift is more in words than deeds. The rhetoric has changed but there has been no policy U-turn. To be sure, the European Commission is granting governments more time to reduce their budget deficits to EU limits, chiefly because recession had made those targets unattainable. Euro zone states have a breathing space because bond markets have ceased to panic since the European Central Bank said last year it would act decisively if necessary to preserve the euro. The EU emphasis is now on reducing "structural deficits" - an elastic measure mean ...
In another discussion on my wall, my FB friends Tim, Rob, and David all have contributed excellent thoughts about economics in general, and what we might do to stimulate the U.S. and world economy. Two points have come out of this: 1) There is no agreement among top-notch economists about economic theory, much less about what to do. Economists are in a state of war, with Keynesians in one corner and followers of Hayek in the other, with many in between or off in their own corner. All roll out their statistics, and attack each other's statistics -- all give compelling arguments copiously using esoteric economic jargon. Underlying it all is a pervasive political disagreement -- it is difficult to disentangle economic from political beliefs. The venom from our political differences permeates into our economic discussions. 2) Every situation is unique, and so when we apply some remedy which is, in effect, an "experiment" (such as the Obama stimulus, or tax cuts/increases), it is difficult to know whether or n ...

THIS IS A TOPIC FOR THE PARENTS. Is goes without saying that there are things in place now that didn't exist in the 80's and 90's. For example...Cell phones, computers, I-pads, the list goes on and on. When I was a kid if I wanted to meet somebody, I had to leave the house. Now that is no longer the case. Sexual predators know this and take advantage of it. They are always on the computers in chat rooms preying on unsuspecting kids. Parents. My question is this... Is being a parent NOW more difficult than it was 20-30 years ago AND how far would you go to protect your children from the dangers that exist in 2013? A.H.M
My opinion on Andre Ward vs Carl Froch II being held in Britain is this: Ward defeated Froch very comfortably in their first fight in my opinion and is the number one fighter in the world right now. I also believe that as the number one fighter of his division it is justifiable for him to have home advantage. However, there are always exceptions. For example, can Ward even attract fans? Floyd Mayweather Jr aside, American boxers are not massively supported. I don't know why this is, and i'm open to having my opinion changed, but i certainly think Asian, European, south American (etc) fans are a lot more fervent. Perhaps it is because of the size difference of the USA (thus difficult to travel), perhaps it is because the USA doesn't have the stars it once had, perhaps it's because of the popularity of the NFL or baseball.? Whatever the reason, American boxers nowadays are rarely huge ticket sellers. Andre Ward is no exception, despite his obvious talents. Add to this the fact us fans have missed out on som ...

Let’s face it! We all have the same problem. This is a problem I’d like to address and open up the discussion with the entire djservicepack.com community, and that problem is undercutting. For those who do not know what undercutting is, its defined as “Offering goods or services at a lower price than (a competitor)”. This is good when you selling candy or ice pops in your neighborhood, but when it comes to DJing… *** NO!! You dj’s who are undercutting are killing us a DJ culture. When you undercut, the market value for a DJ decreases. You think you’re doing yourself a favor because you got the gig…Nope!! Earlier this year I tried to DJ this event that's sorta big in NY. I was offered the gig, not too long after the promoter called me back and said another DJ called him and said he will do it for $50… Wait. Hold up… I’m charging $150-250, which nowadays seems to be more than standard and this N*GGA charges $50! Lets say your equipment gets stolen. ALL OF IT. Laptop, Turntables, Spe .. ...

Day 147 - Empty Glass by Pete Townshend. Every time I listen to this I forget that I don't really care for it as a whole. The singles - Let My Love Open the Door and Rough Boys - pull their weight, but I'm always disappointed it doesn't sound more like the Who's Face Dances and Townshend's All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes, which are personal favorites of mine and were basically released in the same era. Actually, I think he was writing material for both (the band and the solo) and leaned his better work toward the band. After a little digging, I found an interview where he offers an explanation of the album's title, where he compared God to the "ultimate bartender". And he dedicated the song Rough Boys to his daughters and the Sex Pistols. Um, okay? To be fair, I do believe this is right before he went to rehab. I think I'll just download the two best songs on my iPod and move on...

[I have seen for some time that the Awakening is here, spreading to different areas as they corporately open up in faith to receive. Multitudes have been praying, and we should not grow weary until we each experience revival, first in our own hearts, then in our individual churches and regions. I believe this word from Dutch Sheets, which was posted on Elijah List, is further confirmation of this, and in his travels, he is seeing it happen. - Ray] I recognize that the mandate upon my life in this season is to restore hope to America and be a voice for awakening and reformation. The fear of the Lord compels me to carry out this mandate with steadfast determination. The Lord is so kind to continuously make it undeniably clear that this race I am running is one that He has clearly marked out for me, and the message I am preaching is precisely what is on God's heart for America at this time. The past few weeks have been extremely encouraging. I met with a group of pastors in Louisiana last mo ...

His recent adventure includes interning at TerraVita Springs, a community-based working and educational farm in Ashland. Chad's all about farming and organics. We are thrilled to be handing Summer Jo's over to someone with the skills and vision to take Summer Jo's to new heights. We'll let Chad share his vision with you in the coming months. We're sure there is awesomeness ahead in Summer Jo's future. Mike and I can't begin to thank you adequately for your support over the years. It's been a joy serving you and sharing with you. You have enriched our life. We hope you will continue to support the farm, the restaurant, and Chad Giffin Gates, Sum ...

Switzerland's recent loss to the Czech Republic in the first round of Davis Cup competition has kicked off some of the old tunes from that broken record we've all heard in the past. First comes the song "Questioning Federer's Commitment To Davis Cup" followed closely by "In Between Slams So Go With It." And then finally the merciful outro "Who Cares, The Next Slam is Finally Here!" You may have even gotten sidetracked at the beginning by the track "What is the Davis Cup?" If that's the case, surf on over to Wikipedia and take a look. You'll at least learn the reason why they call individual Davis Cup matches "rubbers." The most important thing to know about Davis Cup competition right now is that Switzerland (and thus Roger Federer) has never won it. Federer is just about the only exception to the rule that every great Open Era player in the history of men's tennis has been on a winning Davis Cup team. Pretty much every relevant player from Rod Laver through Novak Djokovi ...

Almost every student says "true," ignoring that Martina Navratilova had nine. Men, women, pets, whoever takes a swing at this and misses. Am I nuts or is this a sad statement on society?

I've always wanted to, in a perfect world, finish at this event.” 2. TWELVE FOR THE TWINS: They’re the all-time career doubles titles leaders. They’ve lived their Davis Cup dream. They’ve won Olympic gold. And now lefty-righty twins Bob and Mike Bryan have eclipsed Todd Woodbridge/Mark Woodforde with an Open Era-record 12 Grand Slam titles, courtesy of a 6-3, 6-4 win over Leander Paes/Radek Stepanek. “We looked up to the Woodies, and to steal all their records is unbelievable because we idolize those guys,” says Mike Bryan. “They're one of the reasons ...
